Friends were already booked on it, and so we elected to join them! I had always fancied a river cruise, as opposed to an ocean cruise, and particularly wanted to do this Saone- Rhône one.
I thought it was very good value for money, as there were several excursions included, and also drinks with meals.

We had done Amsterdam to Basel in 2018, and Paris-Normandy-Paris in 2019. This was our third cruise, and in our opinion, the best so far. Poetry II was immaculate and the crew and staff were friendly, competent, courteous and professional. As usual, the food was superb with excellent wine accompaniments. Our friends that are wine connoisseurs wanted to tour region. We wanted to see Monaco but this trip did not end up there as the brochure stated when we booked.

We chose this cruise because we went on Avalon Tranquility 2 in July and loved it so much. We booked this cruise for some late Summer sun - unfortunately we chose the wrong week for this. The Avalon Poetry 2 is a very pretty smaller ship. The staterooms are very nice and the bathroom is the nicest of any cruise vessel I have been on. Everything is immaculately clean. Our third Avalon cruise but the first on one of the new "suite ships" with the larger cabin.
This was the Burgundy/Provence cruise down the Soane and Rhone which started with a couple of days in Paris. The Hotel du Collectionneur is a very good hotel with easy access to transport, shops and restaurants. After a TGV trip to Dijon we joined the ship at Chalon-sur-Saone.
