I chose to go on the Dubai to Valletta cruise onboard MV Oceana because having cruised so much I wanted new ports, the ports were restrictive for powerchair and Wheelchair users but still a good time. The ship is probably the worst in P&O,s fleet as it has poor access to open decks and some of the disabled toilets are difficult to open and some toilet seats don’t stay up but temper this disappointment with a friendly staff and first class food. My own cabin B312 had two broken lights, one faulty one and the bedside lights were erratic at best, service in the dining room was slow though this did improve. I just wish the ships accessibility had been addressed at her last refit, the captain and crew are a gem and need a better fitted resource. The theatre has an area at the back for wheelchairs and scooters but latecomers to the theatre consistently crowd you and spoil the experience, time the entertainment staff did something about it and I also had concerns over safety due to it ( is it a fire safety breach) Read Less

Great Premium flight from Birmingham well worth the extra though why you should have to pay on top of £175 surcharge to reserve a seat baffles me. Smooth transfer to cruise terminal then super quick boarding less than 5 minutes after getting off coach. Found cabin nice and spacious with large balcony. All ok there, luggage arrived within an hour or so. Muster drill delayed until a18:30 by late arrival of another flight so first evenings dining was a bit chaotic, no ones fault but quality of food was a sign of things to come unfortunately. Apart from Beach house (which we visited twice - very good) the quality of both MDR & buffet was underwhelming. Menus read well but failed to deliver most of the time. Entertainment. We like to see production shows and cabarets but except for 2 nights when a 7pm show was put on we had to choose one or the other as were on late dining. We’d book early or free time dining if booking P&O again though we did enjoy the company on our table. Ashore. Booked 2 excursions through P&O and 2 independently. St Lucia northern tour was very good with varied stops and good value. Taste of Antigua was poor value for money at £45 each for 20 minute bus ride to back street garden restaurant to tast 3 small nips of rum and a small selection of so so food. Did our own thing at St Maarten & Ponta Delgada. Tried most bars - planet was our favourite and felt prices were reasonable. Cannot see point of introducing package @ £40pppd unless they are going to boost bar prices to encourage take-up. We do not hold back but only spent around £350 on wine and bars in 13 nights. We tend to select cruises by itinerary so won’t say no to P&O again but we’re not sold on the brand yet. Read Less

This was a last minute booking. Oceana is perhaps smaller than her sister ships but she is friendly & her crew seek to look after the passengers. I have to say having read a few of the preceeding reviews I really do wonder just people expect, the crew are fantastic, the food good to very good and the overall experience excellent. We flew from B’ham having travelled from the SE and waved goodbye to our bags to be reunited with them once onboard. Boarding and checkin was very efficient and we were in our cabin within 30 mins of getting off the coach at Valetta Cruise Port. Our bags were with us within a further 10 mins. Food was good to very good, but always a good choice and the waiting staff attentive and as the cruise went on becoming friends in our adventures. One evening my wife and I were doused in baileys from a passing waiter and the immediate response could not have been better. Accidents happen and the issue is how they are resolved, thank you everyone, you did yourselves proud in this respect. Entertainment was variable but I expect no more, when at home we select what we go and see. We did the same onboard and enjoyed the piano recitals, the sax player, but were less enamoured with the Headliners group who whilst enthusiastic lacked polish in some areas. That said many did enjoy these show and we do not feel that we have been shortchanged due to our preferences. A highlight was the art shop, the display changed regularly and there were some interesting pieces, so much so we now have one hanging at home. Overall, the ambiance is good, we are not great ones for sitting around the pool and listening to the music but there are plenty of other spaces on the upper decks to go and enjoy the sun. Wanted a longer cruise of three weeks. We have enjoyed a number of trans Atlantic cruises so this suited us well. The cruise out was generally calm and the weather fantastic, excellent for the time of year. The ship itself was in generally good condition,albeit showing signs of wear in places. Carpets were almost threadbare in places. The main point of criticism of the ship itself is that there is a distinct lack of sunbathing space. Sun beds are lined up along the available decks with no room between. The rows themselves are also very close to those in front and behind. My wife who has had both knees replaced could not get on these beds except for those on the end of a row, and once or twice we could not get off the deck without asking people to move their bed as all isles were blocked. Staff as is usually the case were excellent, they do seem busier than ever, but this might be me. They still seem to make time to smile while making sure you have what you need. Finally our ongoing gripe with P&O is their dress code, simply it’s not enforced. Increasingly people are going to diner in shorts, and tea shirts are very popular also. Both theoretically against policy. Formal nights are similar. People do not wear jackets and or ties but still dine in the main restaurants. I accept P&O are loath to upset these customers but it does, by its inactivity, seem happy to upset those of us who like the dress codes. Please P&O either enforce or end the dress codes but stop sitting on the fence!! Read Less

Chose it after not enjoying hard sell on last celebrity cruise. Rude oppo initially when trying to sort car out...but luggage in cabin once on board.... Ship,difficult,to,find way around as no logical flow Cabin adequate but miss having a balcony.... Freedom dining good in Saffron or Cinnamon and other options good for cover charge - Sindhi -Indian/Thai and The Glass house for seafood.... Entertainment patchy but some excellent - e.g Mark Walker but other options rather lack lustre. Service good generally - excellent cabin steward and spa staff good, as are,bar and restaurant staff... Excursions also patchy but Gaudi tour excellent Staff paid commission only on drinks and disclosure of bullying by member of spa staff, juxtaposed,with huge,price,hikes for 2019, Dumbing down in terms of customers including hogging of sun beds and poor supervision of children -,signage not observed in terms of not jumping in pool,and poor behaviour in dining rooms DOUBT IF WOULD GO AGAIN Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to see the Mediterranean. To that end it achieved all we wanted. Although given that it happened over the Easter period you would have thought that the cruise line would have known that some of the ports of call would have been closed on certain days because of religious sensitivities and that they could have arranged the itineraries some what differently. Apart from the service given by our waiters and cabin steward I found in general that the service on the ship was poor. The food was not to my liking as I prefer plain cooking, in fact this was the first cruise that I have been on where I lost weight. The reception desk staff were worse than useless and could not or would not give any help at all. The entertainment was excellent particularly the Headliners. The shore excursions were typical of excursions that all cruise lines book and were no better or worse than any others. The ship could have offered a little more organisation to disembark for the tours other than a short line in the daily paper saying to proceed ashore a little before departure and find your coach. The ship was full, so c. 2000 passengers. I believe there were c. 150 kids on board, but they were almost unnoticeable - must have been kept occupied and away from the bulk of the passengers! Whilst the age range was mixed, I would say typical passenger was in the 60 - 80 age bracket. I am a regular with Royal Caribbean (RCCL) which, whilst not perfect, definitely ticks many of my boxes! We booked on this one at short notice of ony 2 days because the holiday we had been booked to go on was cancelled due to poor weather. Would I holiday with P&O again? On balance, probably not - no major flaws, but I think all the cruise lines have a particular style, cater to a particular audience, and for me that is RCCL rather than P&O. I don’t regret P&O as a last minute choice, however! Pros Great wine at reasonable price. Coke in bottles for £2.75. Champagne £7.75. They even had Cloudy Bay Sauvignon in the main dining rooms! Heinz ketchup/salad cream, Marmite, Kelloggs cereals in buffet - excellent. Magnums and Judes icecream on sale by pools - fab. Afternoon tea was excellent (but I prefer personal teapot, rather than long-stewed version served to all). Freshly made cakes and scones - it would be rude not to try them all!... Teacakes, crumpets and a hot savoury (e.g. sausage rolls) always on offer with afternoon tea. Real cream in all desserts - RCCL use artificial cream, which is horrid, so top marks to P&O. Minimal announcements to disturb the peace (unlike RCCL, who have lots, and repeat each one in several different languages) The organisation was excellent - for example, the process for leaving the ship and transfer to airport. Incredibly slick & easy, given they had 2k passengers to handle (including this one, who left her iPhone on the transfer coach. Staff were so kind, and went off to find it for me.) Cons Signs encouraged you to open doors to toilets in public areas with tissue - but usually no bins around to put tissues in! I don’t think I saw any staff cleaning the public toilets in the whole 10 day period - can’t get away from them on RCCL cruises! And they seemed to regularly be “out of service”. No crispy bacon at breakfast - stewed, with lots of white “stuff” oozing out. Only skimmed milk for breakfast - tasteless. Why no choice? Tours were expensive and not a great experience for me. I went on one that was 5 hours in all, and was squashed on the back seat, in the corner on a 53 seat bus - I couldn’t see anything at all! The tours were very much token “sightseeing” of key things - in a group of up to 53 it is almost impossible to hear what is being said by the tour guide, and the group can only go at the pace of the slowest person (usually with a walking stick) after long toilet breaks. Highly frustrating and unsatisfying. I cancelled the last two I had booked. I would have liked the option of more things to do and be active with e.g. Segway, things that kids would enjoy. Food in the main dining rooms was OK in quality, and I think catered for the tastes of a retired British population. Lots of very old-fashioned British options (e.g. collar of bacon, steak & kidney pudding). Food in the buffet was good, and was themed each evening. Lots of fresh salads, with a wide choice of dressings. I loved the cous-cous. I suspect many of the sauces (e.g. curry variants) were pre-made, jar versions - gloopy with thickener, inauthentic flavours. Edible, though. Daily roast was probably the best option. The entertainment was... uninspiring. The entertainment team didn’t even seem to enjoy it much themselves! We did a picture quiz one night (name the book/album cover) - they whizzed through it so fast, didn’t revisit questions at the end. Seemed keen to get it over and done with. I did bingo a couple of times - minimal explanation, very functional. Assumption was that the audience was regulars... which they probably were! It is much more of an “event” on RCCL ships - I positively look forward to it as a highlight (have “the t-shirt” and branded seal...), even though it is more expensive! The music and shows did nothing for us at all - although we enjoyed Manuel Martinez, the mildly abusive magician! They showed films once or twice a day - would have been good to have had some of them shown more than once. If you were off on a trip and it was during the day, you missed it. Staff in public areas were excellent - we had a “base” in the main atrium, and the staff quickly recognised us, what we drank and how we liked our drinks. Always lovely to be welcomed with a smile by someone who knows your name. I spent quite a lot of time in the Spa having treatments. If you enjoy massage etc worth looking out for their “offer of the day” - typically c. 1 hour for around £70. Great value - especially as their routine treatments are usually £100+. You can book the “offer of the day” for the next day from the previous evening. Didn’t use the gym, sauna or steam room. Didn’t use the shops - extensive range of jewellery, and quite a good range of clothes, snacks etc. But I’m not on a cruise ship to shop! The above are all personal niggles, and I’ve tried to be fair and point out where they really did deliver. Oceana provided exactly what they promised, the issue is that it wasn’t really what I wanted. But that’s not their fault. It was amazing value @ £960 per person for a balcony cabin, including return flight home and £110 each room credit, for 10 days). I wouldn’t go again by choice for me, but I can think of people I know to whom I would absolutely recommend a P&O cruise. Read Less

We booked this cruise 18 months before departure so have been looking forward to it for some time. As this was a re positioning cruise we were bussed from return airport to Southampton. Everything went well and embarkation was efficient. We enjoyed this cruise. The food was good, and we met some good company when freedom dining in restaurant. The ship is in great condition throughout with the exception of Footlights theatre. We found the seating in there uncomfortable, although not too uncomfortable to enjoy shows. The only negative I had issue with was the timing of the shows, first one at 8.30pm and second at 10.30pm. This was an issue for us as in other ships first show starts at approx 7.30pm which allows you to see first show, have dinner in restaurant and then see second show. We mainly ate in restaurant for dinner and had breakfast and lunch in the limited menu Cafe Jardin (no cost for breakfast or lunch). Menu consists of a small buffet and limited served options, which we found more than satisfied us. I have never seen this option on other P&O ships. We do not generally like the buffet option (smash and grab) for our dining, but on the two or three occasions we used the Plaza buffet we were pleasantly surprised. I would say that the Plaza buffet was the best we have experienced on any ship. Initially we thought our cabin on the small side, we soon got used to it and everything was fine. In general we had a great cruise even though the weather was a bit colder than expected. We failed to land at Mykonos due to high winds. We felt that service, food and entertainment were great. We have sailed twice previously on Oceana, once when she was quite new and once when she was looking ready for a re-fit. This time the re-fit had been completed and she was looking fresh with new carpets and furniture; but let down a bit by not refitting the cabins or doing some general maintenance on things like balcony doors that needed a lot of power to open and were very hard for a woman to operate. But I have digressed a bit and will start with the transfer to Southampton. This cruise was a re-location cruise to Malta and we were transferred quite efficiently by coach from Manchester Airport to Southampton. Booking in and embarking the ship was one of the quickest we have experienced from Southampton, and as an added bonus the cases were waiting when we got to our cabin. The main thing we noticed was the pungent smell in the cabin, which we soon pinpointed to the shower curtain; why they dont just change them as a matter of course each cruise is beyond me. We were on fist dining in the MDR as it suits us due to medication issues, the food was always of good standard and served by a great team. The buffet was of similar quality and the midnight snacks and hot chocolate were also very good. The midnight buffet was a great place for a chat with the staff and wind down before bed. Entertainment in the theatre was some of the best standard I have seen for a while, and the entertainment in the bars were also good; just wish they didn't have to disrupt musicians with quizzes. Disembarking went well and we were transferred to Malta, not a long wait and back home. Read Less

We were lured onto Britannia as a last minute booking hence we were on a Saver Fare. We had experienced sailing with P & O prior to this booking and to be frank did not feel that this cruise company did not compare with our other cruises on Princess and Royal Caribbean,but felt that the this new vessel coupled with the itinery ticked the box. Cabin - G730 was our allocated cabin. Lovely spacious cabin on the aft end of the vessel with unrestricted balcony views. Unfortunately unknown to us this cabin was situated directly above the Live Lounge. This resulted in unbearable vibration and sound pervading our cabin. This was resolved after 48 hours and we were moved to C218 which proved to be very acceptable. The company is aware of this problem and we have suggested that this cabin should not be allocated. Check that you don't have this cabin or indeed either side of it! Cabins are clean and comfortable and well serviced by our cabin steward. Dining - Having booked late we found we were not able to access Freedom Dining before we departed and when we enquired on arrival we were told that Freedom Dining was fully booked. This led us to be allocated second sitting in Club Dining at 8.30pm. This was disasterous for us as 1. We like to eat early 2. We enjoy the company of others for our dining experience, as in the past we have made many friends this way. Due to the policy adhered to for Club Dining ( Oriental ) passengers are allocated seats on specific tables for the whole of the cruise. Unfortunately for the first three nights we were the only two on a table for six. No-one appeared to dine on the three evening in question on our table. Two couples on adjacent tables of six were also experiencing the same problems. On the first formal night we decided to personally instigate a move onto another table as indeed did another couple this was met with an obvious concern from the waiters who informed the Maitre de. He explained to us that whilst the seats on our table were empty they had been allocated and as a result he was reluctant to allow us to join other passengers in a similar situation. There was a lack of thinking outside the box here for the benefit of the passengers. We remained as a group on this table despite the concerns expressed by the staff but however they did return later in the evening to say they had changed our seating permanently so that we could remain together on that table. Due to the situation we did not return to eat at the ORIENTAL choosing to dine in the Horizon or the excellent speciality restaurants. Entertainment - A wide variety of very good entertainment probably one of the best selection experienced on many other cruises. We are used to watching West End standard entertainment but failed to follow the theme for the Underground production! which was very disjointed. Read Less

We have cruised nine times now. First time as an adult on P&O. Britannia is a lovely ship. I would recommend highly. But avoid the loyalty crew. We were on deck 9 and had a balcony, which we used, a lot. Its a shame people still think its ok to smoke on their balconies and we did a couple of times end up with cigarette butts on the floor, these were promptly cleaned away by our lovely steward. There are two designated smoking areas on the open decks for people to use. Limelight club, has a cover charge but is worth every penny. We saw the three acts that were available for these dinner shows and enjoyed everyone. Morecambe and Wise tribute was the best, it was like going back to my childhood, amazing. Epicurean, if we had eaten there earlier in the cruise we would have eaten there most nights. Cover charges, but worth it. Sindhu, We were a little disappointed and concluded that the our local Indian restaurant must have an amazing chef! food was good, but not great. We would book again on another cruise, but if our budget was tight, probably give it a miss. Beachhouse, Cover charge again, we had a lovely waiter called Nelson, charming and funny. Food is kind of American diner and was excellent. Freedom dining. This works well for us. But the downside is the tables for two are not in the best places in the restaurant, which annoyed me. Always stuck in an area of high travel from waiters or other passengers. Which is another reason to pay a cover charge and dine else where, nobody likes to dine in annoyed company, as I pointed out to hubby ;) Food was sadly a bit lack lustre, fish sometimes bland, chicken over cooked on one occasion and mushy veg every time. Another reason to either eat in the Horizon or pay a cover charge and eat to a higher standard. Cookery Classes - Highly recommended, I was surprised that hubby agreed to join the class. He really enjoyed it and I have the pictures to prove it! Next time the family are staying he's helping out with the cooking. He enjoyed it so much he actually booked us onto another one. Spa. I can honestly say I arrived limping, not able to move my neck without pain on day one and by the time the spa therapist and the acupuncturist had finished with me I was 100% better. What price health? Costa coffee - Trouble with Costa is they allow people to buy beans from anywhere. The coffees are also one button push delivered, which isn't what you expect from a premium price. The coffee was variable. Tip? go back to the last place you had good coffee on the ship. Smart Casual - I have no idea what they wanted and from the outfits the other passengers where wearing some other were confused as well. I will happily stick with what I asked, if P&O were clear and stuck by some kind of rule. I packed almost one cocktail dress for every evening and two long dresses for the formal nights. People were in leggings in the dining room, cut off tops, men in t-shirts, hardly a jacket in sight on casual nights. Weird and confusing. Formal nights - I have to say the passengers on the ship know how to dress for formal nights! fantastic stuff. Would we book again? We have, but a different P&O ship as we were so angered and disappointed by the treatment of the loyalty team that it will take a while to think about going back to anywhere they could claim a credit for. I can only say they were VERY rude and dismissive. Their customer service was appalling, we saw frustration, shortness of temper, excuses for behaviours and then being fobbed off in a way that makes your jaw go slack. Awful. Read Less

Love the transatlantic crossings, as you get time to relax on the sea days. Loved some of the talks, particularly ones by Dr Ken MacTaggart. Absolutely loved Peter Piper, J'Adele, and Pete Matthews (I was on Stage!) Some of the waiters in the Live Lounge were just not interested in bringing the drinks ordered, which was exceptionally disappointing. The meals and buffet I think were noticeably 'cheap' and a smaller selection than previous P&O cruises. The layout of the new ship is unbelievably poor with the up and down decks and only port and starboard side to get certain places. P&O try and take every opportunity to extract more money out of you at every turn! If things continue the way they are you might end up paying to go to the buffet. (They will then confiscate food brought on board!) Who puts the gym on the side of the ship, so that when you are running everything is going left to right in front of you! One shower in the gym changing room, seriously P&O? Well clearly very seriously, as there were no towels in the changing rooms to get dry with, another first with any cruise ship I have been on. 50% of the washing machines were out of action and 3 treadmills too, that I know about. The new 'no alcohol' Policy sucks, but I guess they are just getting in line with other lines. The webcam was turned off for many sea days, just showing Bosch instead. I like to use this with muted sound to give an indication of the light outside and a simulated sunrise in the inside cabin. I don't know about the Costa, as it didn't taste like Costa, and I drink a lot of Costa coffee!! Some of the Bath towels were well past their best and overdue replacement. Not nice white and fluffy! I was left behind on a tour in Ponta Delgada!!! Great to have a glass shower door, but I do think a larger person will have problems with the way it opens. It still leaks, but there are none of the normal drain holes on the bathroom floor, so it just floods. The Headliners have usually be absolutely fantastic, but had to walk out a few times this cruise as they were disappointing. All that said I did have a very relaxing holiday and none of the above really spoiled things, it was just not expected, particularly from their current flagship. Finally a first for everyone... Because of the Portuguese dock workers strike we were apparently the first ever ship to Tender at Ponta Delgarda!! All very well managed by P&O at the last minute - Well done! Read Less

Our first time on P&O, although we have cruised over 12 times in 10 years. Our UK friends highly recommended Britannia, and they we spot on. Service was impeccable. The cabin staff was the best we have encountered, and the wait staff was efficient and entertaining. The meals were very good in all the restaurants, and the drinks were reasonably priced, unlike other lines who add a surcharge to each drink. The entertainment was quite good, especially in the Limelight Club, which we visited on two occasions. A nice touch was the receipt from the dining room staff of a copy of all the menus on the cruise. We have only had this once before on another line, and that only after we requested them. The trivia and other activities were well organised and attended. There was always something to do, even on port days, which can be a problems on some lines. We have already booked a 35 night cruise next year on P&O Ventura, and can't wait. Read Less

The last time i did a p&o cruises where the itinerary wasn't changed was 2012 that year i did 2 cruises with no changes since i have done 3 cruises this one had 2 change originally we were going to saint martin i accepted that changed due to the hurricanes then we had storm riley the email came on the day before we left no visit to ponta del gada instead a return to babrbados. Flight was good i had upgraded to extra legroom as i was travelling with my parents we just decided to have more room as it was 8 hours. warning the bus's in the Caribbean leave a bit to be desired not much space and very cramped when you land the bus's are very close to the runway no security at the airport only dock side at the ship. We had an easy run through boarding as my mum had assistance at gatwick and due to this we all got into same assistance line we were on in under 20 minutes a lot of people were waiting for an hour or more. I had been on Azura in april 2012 around the med she looks the same just a little bit rougher round the edges. The restaurant on the 1st 2 nights were sit any where as people don't finish getting of until late on 2nd day (we were on the 1st day of boarding) when we did sit at our allocated table it was very enjoyable my only issue was the marco pier white menus which i haven't enjoyed and always revert to old faithful which isn't on the menu on dress up nights but can be ordered sirloin steak and prawn cocktail. I didn't go to anything in the theatre apart from seeing darkest hour film there on a sea day i did see jimmy tamley the ventriloquist in Manhattan he was excellent and adult theme compared to the theatre version i was told by someone else. Only did one trip with saint kitts railway my only problem was i got heat stroke on the bus getting there had been at the back neck started getting hot by the time we were on the train i was drinking water like it was going out of fashion but wasn't getting any better so don't remember much of it. I came to the assumption during this cruise that p&o no longer believe in customer service due to my issues with my cabin as i have said below and friends having various issues it seems their moto is the customer is always wrong and having spoken to other people i wasn't the only person who felt this way. I have decided to not cruise p&o anymore will look at celebrity again and maybe royal Caribbea. Read Less

Liked the itinerary but particularly a visit to tha Azores, however, the cruise got off to a bad start when we received an email the day before flying out to Barbados saying the ship would not be stopping off at the Azores because of a storm in the Caribbean. We later learned that people already on board had this info. at least 10 days before! After a 2 hour delay, we arrived on board and entered our cabin to find the w.c. was within half an inch of overflowing on to the shower room floor. I reported this immediately but nothing was done for 2 days so, I was up during the night flushing it. Somebody eventually attended to it but did not repair it properly so it was reported again and this time it was done immediately and successfully. The cabin was comfortable and the steward we had was very good. The food in the dining room was a 8 out of 10. However, the black-tie nights resulted in us not being allowed to eat in our normal restaurant and not being allowed to drink in certain bars.Our only option without paying extra, bearing in mind we had paid full fare was to go to the buffet restaurant which was so abysmal we complained on 3 occasions about cold food,lack of choice , hit and miss organisation etc., but it seems that due to the fear of people attending black-tie nights complaining about us (even though we always dress smartly in the evening) we were discriminated against. We spent 8 days at sea coming back to Southampton and during that time they held 4 black-tie nights! Last minute booking. Flew out in Premium Economy from Glasgow with TUI on Dreamliner for 2 week cruise on Azura. Very comfortable and good service on the flight. Embarkation in Barbados excellent and smooth. Straight from plane to the ship and luggage delivered to cabin. These are probably the only plus points I can say about this cruise that were better than 3 previous Caribbean cruises we have done with Royal Caribbean, Princess and Celebrity. We are non smokers and hated the smell of smoke coming down the corridor from the vast smoking area on Stbd side of deck 15 & 16 near forward swimming pool. We were amazed at how much deck space was allocated to smokers on this ship. Entire starboard forward side was a no go area for us on deck 15 & 16. The toilet facilities leave a lot to be desired on Azura. The only toilet on pool deck was in the centre between 2 pools and you had to enter the smoking area to go there. The ladies toilet here was often in a disgusting state I was informed. Cubicles out of order and no soap. Many of the Ladies toilets were out of action and long queues formed outside below decks before and after shows. Ports of call average. We never did any overpriced excursions. Entertainment average. Some good acts. Adele, Mark Walker Etc. Background music diabolical at the pool and around the ship. Endless hours of meaningless mundane Latin music until the DJ appears at 5 o clock. Apparently the music is sent from head office and they have to play it all day. Maybe they should realise that people might like to listen to some popular songs for a change or will that rock the boat too much causing cardiac arrest for seasoned cruisers. !! Food and service was generally very good but no better than other cruise lines. The Venezia could get very congested sometimes with people trying to squeeze past with trays etc.The space is limited inside the Buffet. P&O are living in the past and cater mostly for stuffy elderly types. Not a lot to attract younger people. Some people look down on you if you have not done at least 20 cruises with P&O and reference is made quite often in the theatre by Entertainment Director. Who can remember Captain so and so from Canberra or Oriana in 1973 ?? Who has been on Adonia EtcEtc .Ha Ha. No interest to younger passengers. Disembarkation, A nightmare. Flight cancelled. P&O knew this the day before and never informed anyone until we had checked out of the cabin with minimum hand luggage.We never saw our luggage for 2 days. It was taken away on Thursday night and got it back at Glasgow on Saturday night. Overnight hotel was a dump. NO RUNNING WATER, for 2nd day in a row, NO TOILETS , Food disgusting, NO SANITATION. Sat in chair all night. Bed disgusting. Checked in next day to find we are downgraded to Economy on what appeared to be the oldest Jumbo Jet in he sky !!! Wamos Airlines. No inflight entertainment. Nothing. Crammed into middle row of 4 seats !! Even though 200 empty seats on plane. Did not pay Premium for this to arrive at 23,20 in Glasgow on a Saturday night 18,5 hours late.. This is the Life ?????????????? P&O should be ashamed. Elderly ladies were left wandering around Glasgow Airport at this time wondering what to do. No assistance at all. Many stranded and unable to get home. Our first and last Cruise with P&O is memorable for all the wrong reasons. American passengers would never stand for this type of treatment and neither should we. Read Less

This was our first cruise with P&O having cruised previously with Cunard and Royal Caribbean. The coach transfer from Gatwick to Southampton was chaotic, meaning we arrived at the ship at 16.45! Once on board we found our inside cabin to be fine and we had an excellent room steward (Martino). We were given the Freedom Dining option in the Peninsular Restaurant and we found the food and service really good. The entertainment was very good throughout the voyage and the entertainment staff were really good too. The problem with this ship is that it seems to have been designed to cram as many guests on board as possible, over 3600! One guest told us that the Headliners Theatre has a capacity of 1000, so if you want a seat to see a good show you need to be there quite early. If a good act is on in the Live Lounge you have little chance of getting a seat. Similar problems arise when trying to get on equipment in the gym. The walking deck is very small-I went to check it out on the second morning and, in terms of traffic, it reminded me of the M25! Sun loungers were definitely at a premium too! We still enjoyed the cruise overall and would cruise with P&O again, but on another ship. Read Less

Just saying that there was little fun on this ship to be had apart from for the riotous kids who had taken over the swimming pool. A badly designed ship, with sharp elbows from fellow diners in the self service restaurant. Did they think that there would be nothing left for them? The cabin was good as was the cabin steward. The food was not so good, and the areas cordoned off and charged for separately seemed to be an apt comment on p&o money grabbing. We normally go with Royal Carribean and missed out on the fun, the use of Sauna without having to pay tens of pounds a day, the only thing that we really did not like on our RCI cruise to the Canaries last year was the BIG TELLY which took over the top deck and pumped out football all day and night. No wonder they are throwing cruises away cheap! Read Less

After 15 years of cruising with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruises ... the choice came up including Britannia for a transatlantic cruise to celebrate two 70th birthdays......assuming that the reputation of P&O was alive and well .. we decided to book with them ... even the cruise agent suggested that the standard passenger on P&O was more discerning and service minded... so we booked. From the first night - in freedom dining .. noisy faulty radio speakers (drowned us out)we were by a service station......... noise level was incredible ... we laughed it off as first night hiccups ...... food in main dining was mostly good ..... Grab & Go - terrible sandwiches along with greasy pale burgers from Market Place....... Boring, dull , unimaginative and uninviting décor throughout and many of us newbies found it very hard to find our way around - some stairways difficult to negotiate............ lack of signage and clocks!!! Balcony far too small .. no reading or bedside light (nightmare for those who wake in the night and don't want to disturb their partner) great having a kettle ! Sullen and disinterested crew on the whole like they were working out their notice ... We were not previously aware that 95% are from the Asian continent ... apparently a P&O tradition.... but every night our dining experience was hit and miss ........ mostly miss...... having been used to the rich tapestry of nations on RCI and Celebrity X great fun and above all great service .......it was a stark difference ....... I could go on about so many small issues ... continual drumming up of "extras" on board ... hard to find tap water ....... no interactive TV in the cabin .. therefore hard to keep a check on spending ..... no free ice cream ...... or towel babies ... wet slippery decks in the morning (a few bad falls resulting in ambulance departures) lack lustre in every direction! So - never again !!! Too many negative issues ............. boring, utterly boring ship ... food variable ...service generally poor and indifferent ......... so much for discerning cruisers ??? .. Quick and speedy embarkation. We were wondering what the holiday would be like after reading previous reviews but we were impressed with the organisation, food, ship......maybe the service in the restaurants could have been a bit sharper and the overall cleanliness of the public areas could have had a bit more attention. However, our cabin and cabin housekeeper were first class. The entertainment team worked very hard and we never had a problem finding a seat in the theatre...the shows were very well produced and well presented. The Live Lounge was like a club and had a good atmosphere...the live band 'Pulse' were excellent and their Monsters of Rock set was great. The T/A crossing was like a mill pond the whole way...perfect...the food was first class..the ship was beautiful despite being huge! The return from Barbados on our Thomson flight on board the dreamliner was first class. we would certainly recommend and we will look forward to sailing with P&O again.... Read Less

Two weeks on the transatlantic, repositioning, cruise gave us 8 beautifully restful sea days with very calm seas throughout. P&O run an extraordinarily smooth operation in every department whether it is embarkation, entertainment or restaurants. Without exception, all of the stewards, waiters, reception, croupiers et al were efficient, friendly and often went out of their way to go the extra mile. Food in the Peninsular, apart from one lunch, was very good. The waiters will serve you with almost any desired combination from the menu and their memories as to what to give where and to whom were impressive. The Horizon buffet is superbly organised, the food is varied and generally hot, and there will always be seating to be found especially as the Beach House no longer exists. Afternoon tea, to be had in the Oriental, was a delight with finger sandwiches, toasted tea cakes and crumpets, scones with clotted cream and jam, and then half a dozen cakes to finish you off. Apologies for waxing lyrical, but I did enjoy it. The presentation and quality of the food in the Epicurean was excellent. Sindhu was interesting but, for us, was the least enjoyable of the select restaurants. Food was good in the Limelight and, in order to accommodate the entertainers, the organisation in getting all tables served almost simultaneously was very impressive. The Glass House had run out of a number of wines towards the end of the two weeks and that spoilt many of their flites of three wines. Brodie’s was a busy place and the quizzes were often well presented and enjoyable. The range of beers is excellent and the prices (of all the drinks on board) are reasonable. We used the casino, next to Brodie’s, to play in the organised blackjack tournaments in the afternoon. Good, cheap fun. If you like to hear young people shouting loudly into microphones then the Headliners or the Live Lounge are for you. The staging is very good indeed. The comedians and the ventriloquist were well worth seeing in both venues. Leon (our cuddly Head of Entertainment) always gave excellent value. His two talks on astronomy, using outstanding software, are not to be missed. Don't forget to have your 'free' patisserie with your coffee at Java (deck 7). £2.50. Daily crosswords and the Britannia News (a short Bulletin from Blighty) are available. Expensive ship tours are available but not widely advertised. Pools have a minimum depth of about 5 1/2 ft. Well, there was no need for me to worry * Embarkation with luggage deliIt wavered to the cabin during lunch was completed within a couple of hours * There was no waiting in line to enter restaurants * Disembarking to go ashore went extremely smoothly * We always found sun loungers Our overall experience was positive. However,...... P&O need to address the service in the main restaurants. Waiters were slow, did not have a proper grasp of English and sometimes were quite rude. It was if they were doing us a favour by serving our meals. It was an effort to get mustard , marmite or honey at breakfast for instance, Also, one could not get a swim unitl 0800. It was only after a little pesuasion that we managed a swim at 0715. Come on P&O , on a Caribbean Cruise get the pool open earlier. Read Less

I have been wanting to see London, and also Norway (The Fiords) for quite awhile. I was going to do a land tour, but since my health is now working against me sometimes, I realize that I need to slow down (74ys), and a widower on top of it. I love the people of Great Britain as they are polite and have a special way to be proud, so I put all of that together and I decided to sail on the newest ship and also visit the Norway coast and Fiords. I arrived early so I could spend 4 days visiting London and having a great time. I had to find a way to get to Southampton, but it is only about 2 to 2 1/2 hours from my hotel near the Victoria Bus Station to the station in Southampton in a comfortable bus. The crew of the ship were polite and efficient and took my luggage and got me on the ship very fast. The ship was beautiful, and my table mates were so nice, as they were from all over England, but did not hesitate to include me in all the festivities. The entertainment was excellent and the music and dancing was just wonderful. The food gave me a chance to sample British style, and I really loved it. We had to cross the North Sea to get to Norway, and the water was calm as a lake and I was glad as it could be rough if there were storms. We stopped at the main locations and had great tours as we headed toward our last stop in Bergen. The country was lovely and the Norwegian people are alos polite and glad to see everyone as we got to explore the views and shops. This was definitely a trip to remember. I was glad I sailed on the P&O line and someday will go back and sample other ships from the line. When we disembarked on the last day, I was amazed how smooth and fast, and how they had people in the large terminal area where you picked up your suitcases who were able to assist you and get you out very fast. I must say Great Ship and Captain and all the crew I met were the best personally and efficiently. Read Less

We chose this ship because it was calling at ports that we had not visited before. The ship is tired and is really ready for it's refit at the end of the year. It was cold on board and people complained to reception. In the evening the selection of food in the Plaza buffet was not very extensive and also lacked variety, however, the staff were excellent, we couldn't fault them. If, like me you are disabled and cannot get up and down stairs then this is not the ship for you because, if any of the ports on your cruise are tendered you will not be able to get to the tender platform. I was told there was not a lift that would take me from deck 4 down to deck 3 to get to the tender, so I was unable to go ashore. This is the only ship that I have encountered this problem . As this was our first cruise on Oceana, we gave them the information needed regarding my disability and needs when we booked but no-one advised me regarding the tendering situation of this ship. We are having to cancel another cruise booked on this ship in August/September because of this problem. Disembarking was excellent and the accessible shuttle buses were brilliant. Read Less

We use this cruise to relax and not get jet lag on the way back, just chill on sea days and enjoy the ships entertainment each night, Good bunch of passengers playing deck quoits each day and we was able to play until the day before disembarkation. Freedom dining is our preference and this worked really well... Coach service back to Gatwick makes the trip really good value .... Done this trip 5 times and it's best sailing back from Barbados.....not sailing from Southampton. Buffet area does not work as it's a pain to get a table and the restaurant is so much better for all meals and the glass house tiger prawns.....are delicious. Sindu was ok and the Beach house was not bad for value.... Staff onboard varied and some were just not happy to be there, but we found that it's the sea days that make it long days for them and this does have an effect on tiredness, so I make sure that I let them know how much they are appreciated and give extra tips to those who go that extra mile.....
