I chose this cruise to get a little bit of sun, rather than sit at home watching the rain. This being my third time on Azura, I thought I knew what to expect. Embarkation went smoothly, and I was in my cabin swiftly. I noticed that the plug in the basin was closed, and I wondered why. It didn't take me long to find the answer. I was on deck fourteen, but when I went to decks six and seven, THE SMELL OF RAW SEWAGE WAS OVERPOWERING !!!. Lots of people were complaining throughout the whole cruise. I spoke to reception desk about this, only to be told that they were aware of this problem, and they were working on it. Previous reviews that I have read have indicated that the problem has been on board the ship for some time. The Captain was never to be seen around the ship, except for photo shoots, nor was the chief Engineer,as I would have approached one of them to ask about the problem, which continued for the entire duration of the cruise.( I later found that the basin was kept plugged to prevent the smell entering my cabin). I dined in the restaurant on only three occasions,as the food was only lukewarm, and on one dinner the ribeye steak was so tough that three members at my table had to send it back. After that I dined at the buffet, where the food was Lukewarm too. The entertainment was mediocre, same old gags from old comedians. On one occasion the show was cancelled because of rough seas. To conclude, six sea days are too much, when the entertainment is poor. However if you like dancing,or quizzes,or overpriced bingo,or old movies then this ones for you. I won't be back on Azura! I have a Cruise booked on Brittania for next year, but I won't be going, unless P&o redress me for the disappointment that I endured on this cruise. Read Less

The itinerary and the dates. Worst cruise I have been on engine problems late embarking and Cadiz not visited called in to Vigo on a Sunday at 5pm more for P and O benefit. Terrible crossing at sea with many I’ll, food poor, entertainment poor, overcrowded. We did not get off ship at Vigo as people were going ashore and coming straight back, so was at sea from Friday to Weds morning. Should have left ship in Barcelona and flown home. Will never cruise again with P and O. All the staff on board were great apart from sickly entertainment manager. We had planned this trip carefully as we do not like too many sea days wow what a disaster that turned out to be. Coach journey down great but coming back we waited for 2 passengers that we later found out got off the ship in Italy due to medical grounds. You would have thought that p and o would have notified the coach company. We then waited for 5 passengers from Cunard to be bussed over hence left at 10am after sitting on coach going nowhere for an hour. NEVER AGAIN P and O. Read Less

Where to start... Embarkation smooth.Cabin an inside, bog standard but clean and tidy so no issues there. The cabin steward was friendly and tried to sell us water and the mini bar as soon as we got in our cabin. So before muster off to Malibar for a drink,we sat down,3 guys at the bar necking shots at 3.30 in the afternoon swearing like troopers! Not a single member of staff said a word, waiter took our order,30 minutes later our drinks arrived!! So we had to drink them sharpish....off to muster, sailaway indoors because of inclement weather,No problem with that you'd think, you'd be wrong,15 minutes for waiter to arrive, then another 30 minutes for drinks to arrive! Groundhog Day!! And so it goes.. Off to dinner, peninsula restaurant, service efficient if impersonal, wine waiter efficient, food standard, well pretty rubbish... I've cruised with P@O 12 times, last cruise was 4 years ago but boy have they destroyed in that time the quality of the food and choice...seared tuna starter with noodles,3 pieces of translucent tuna,so thin it must have been sliced with a razor blade, overcooked and cold, main, king prawns on stale ciabbata....prawns ok.dessert average, they've removed the always available range....cheese board,a joke, choice of 3 distinctly rubbish cheap cheeses...No stilton.....So all in all not good...Continual sales pitch about the pay restaurants etc....Room service was always included in your fare, not anymore! They now have a tray charge of 7 pounds per person for room service!!!! 14 quid for 2, utterly disgraceful ,I cannot believe they actually justify this way of basically ripping off passengers for every conceivable penny they can get away with, evening entertainment distinctly average, and the first time I've cruised where they've had bouncers on the ship in case of drunken trouble, this is a family ship by the way!! P@O have a responsible drinking policy so that passengers are not troubled by other passengers...This policy obviously doesn't include 2 night cruises or Azura for the ship was quite happy to continue serving people who were clearly very very drunk!! Abusive language abounded...it was no different at all to midnight in your local city's centre....Not a single officer of rank was to be seen anywhere...Public toilets were disgraceful, flooded and stank... Time in port was ok,usual trip into town and did our own thing.Gala dress up night, food in restaurant was anything but special...Marco Pierre white menu, well if he's happy to put his name to that he's obviously skint! Beef wellington...this consisted of tough beef in raw pastry, the pastry was soggy and inedible, the starter consisted of a piece of translucent salmon,I know there's a theme here! With half a quails egg... Wow, not! And the same behaviour as the night before in the lounges and Manhattan's...Removed our tips because of the utter garbage cruise...had to fill a form as to why...it wasn't big enough,P@O charge a tip of 14 pounds per passenger per day!! So a 2 week cruise will cost you an Extra 300 odd quid on top of your holiday fare and bar bill,if you manage to get a drink in 2 weeks and on top of your 14 quid per time if you want someone to walk up to your cabin with a plate of rubbish cheap processed food from the self service restaurant! Which I hasten to add had run out of beans and toast by 0830 this morning......I used to love P@O... but the innuendo it's a luxury great experience is well frankly about as short as pinnochios nose!!! If you want to go back to the days of the 80s drink filled booze cruise on a ferry then P@O Azura will fit your bill perfectly,if you want even half decent service, edible food, good entertainment, and a decent holiday experience without being robbed blind then book a trip with another cruise line.. .It really was that bad.... Sorry P@O... you've lost me after 20 years,I'm sure your not bothered though... Don't waste your hard earned money folks.... I've never been happier to be home. Read Less

First went on P&O canberra in the 80s' but this new one is not as good as the top class ones we have been on. RCI, Princess, and Holland America are the premier league ones. This new ship is very drab. The passengers who all deserve a holiday age in 80+ if you do not have a wheelchair, scooter, walking wheel frame or walking stick you are in the minority. This is meant to be a family friendly ship? No so the children like us like ice cream, £1.95 a scoop or £2.15 for a Magnum on a stick. All other good cruise lines have these free. The shuttle bus in ports are £4.00 each way other cruise lines are free.Gratuities are £7.00 a day pp.14 night cruise is £98 With 3500 passengers = £343.000,and tips not going to the crew who have told us they get paid in US dollars. The cabin and bar staff and restaurant crew are excellent..The Headline theatre holds 930 seats for 2 shows a night.= 1860, then with 3500 passengers this leaves 1640 people who cannot see the main show.Dining is moderate to poor..Health & Safety, washing hands with anti bacterial is most important, the Horizion buffet has sinks to wash on entry, but the main dining rooms dis not have until we reported it,the the sprays were put in place at the entry to the dining areas..If you go ashore you have the sprays on you return to the ship, but if have all aboard by 4-30pm the sprays are taken away at 4-15pm so the last people on board cannot clean their hands. For various reasons, my wife and I booked a week to Norway on the Arcadia. We are fairly experienced cruisers, using Celebrity and Azamara. This cruise was truly awful. Where to start? Firstly,hygiene---a major risk on ships---bed linen changed once a week and tablecloths only changed when soiled. In the buffet, no attempt was made to clean the tables between guests; that is unacceptable in a ship where many guests seemed not to observe the most basic hygiene. Next, the food. It was sparse in the main restaurant, good in the pay restaurant, and truly poor (if plentiful, obviously, as people control what volumes of food they take) in the buffet. The quality was disgusting---all the fruit was tinned, as were the tomatoes at breakfast. Taste buds did not have to do much, as nothing tasted of anything. The soups were thin and anodyne, the salad dressings seemed to consist of coloured water, and what fresh salad was served was sparse and poor quality. Desserts were equally without flavour. Was anything good? The scenery in the fjords was spectacular (provided by Nature, not P&O). The embarkation and (blessed) disembarkation were excellent. Some of the entertainment was good, much average. The bars did not serve any crisps or nuts with drinks but they were available from the packet at cost. Some staff, especially in the pay restaurant and the bars were good. The Freedom Dining was shambolic, as if a table for two was gold dust---up to 45 minutes wait. Guests using open seating do not wanted to be coerced into sitting at tables for eight where guests arrive and eat at varying times. The purser's desk did agree with these comments, and admitted that some passengers paid full price for their cabins, but the rest were sold at great reductions to fill the ship, and the food budget and style was obviously beamed at the large numbers of subsidised guests, This was a 3* experience at far from 3* prices. I advise anybody to avoid P and O if they have any standards. I shall never use them again. Once was twice too many! Read Less

Holiday camp at sea.Azura. Thats just what our cruise on Azura was. There is supposed to be a dress code on P&O cruises on black tie nights, there were people walking through the atrium at 10oclock at night in sportswear shorts and flip flops !!!.Asked reception about this, they said dress codes are for dining rooms.surely dress codes on a P&O ships is after 18.00hrs everywhere everyday. There were children running about the entertainment rooms all night long and around people's tables the parents just let them do as they wanted. The entertainment acts had to ask them to sit down, also they quoted to somebody on black tie night are they your formal denims!!! just what you would see at a holiday camp. The buffet was complete chaos, food all over the carpets,in the tea coffee area waiters just left the wet floor cones there when they cleaned up somebody just made another mess.We felt so sorry for the waiters having to deal with all this. So I'm afraid P&O Azura your score for this cruise is 1 out of 10. Read Less

First up I would like to point out that P&0 are normally pretty decent value for money as they tend to be cheaper than most of the other cruise lines and as such I don't expect five star and will travel with them again however not on this ship as it's a disappointment. I'll get the whole Ant 'N' Dec thing out of the way first. I realise that some disruption would be taking place on board however had no idea as to how bad it would be. I was informed that the main pool area would be restricted for a few days but in reality it was not full functional and open to use in it's entirety for a full week (half the cruise) which cause many passengers upset as seating around this area was very limited. The ITV crew on board thought it was their right to commandeer some of the lifts most of the time at the detriment of paying passengers. They were also rude and ignorant to people around. I booked this cruise with hope of actually seeing some of the 'celebrities' on board and being part of a TV first, how mislead was I? As only under twenty five percent of passengers were fortunate enough to see the actual show 'live' and a quarter of them being show winners this was nit the case. I was forced to see the show from other venues (I choose the theatre) which was no better than watching it from my armchair at home. Even after the show the celebs seemed to make a quick disappearing act so nothing gained there then. Kind of pointless! Now to the ship: Food in the MDR was at best okay if a little bland and limiting in choice with no wow factor. Service from waiting staff very poor, they for example would approach you with sauces/gravy etc. after about ten minutes into your meal when you were half way through it. They would knock into you whilst trying to get past, they would stand over your table waiting for you to finish and bugger off. I normally do pay for at least one or two of the signature restaurants but on this cruise we were forced to dine at least five times just to experience some good food, this defeats the object. Buffets are never that great unless you cruise with the more quality lines but this one was abysmal. It served the usual standard breakfast options which were okay but with no thought to layout and organisation eg certain food items which went together like bread and butter placed miles from each other causing much chaos with people passing one another like headless chickens. Lunch was the same boring options every day consisting of curried everything and other Indian things that looked as if they had purchased a job lot form Iceland and tasted as poorly. Same can be said for the synthetic desserts that were wheeled out every day. There was no thought or imagination whatsoever. Afternoon tea was by far the worst I have ever eaten with limited choices and stale bread for sandwiches. During the day there was little to do except attend numerous sales pitches described as entertainment. Night-time: This along with the dining experience plays a big part in a cruise holiday and is something to look forward to as P&O normally have an excellent theatre team, not on this one they didn't! Some folk walked out of the shows because of the poor vocals by certain members of the team as they should't have ever been allowed a microphone in their hand, some were good though. The shows seemed very rushed and not that well thought out. The best shows involved the 'brought on' entertainment as they were very good. Cabins were fine and kept clean unlike quite a few of the cabin stewards who constantly smelled of BO, yes you read that one correct. You would pass them in the corridor just wondering how strong it would be. Rather than waiting to complain on my return to home I decided to do what we are all advised to do if you have any issues on board and spoke directly to the relevant people behind the reception desk. This was probably the most pointless exercise of the whole thing in that nothing was done at all, yes certain amendments were promised but even after speaking to these people every day of the second week still nothing was done. I came away feeling that the reception staff were a complete waste of time as they served absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Ports of call were good but would have preferred less time in Barcelona and had an extra port elsewhere. I know there will be a lot of folk who will think that my review is too hard to believe and that I'm going 'overboard' with my description and that maybe I'm just one of those people that like to complain and is never happy. I'm not at all! I love cruising and have now ten cruises under my belt over the last seven or eight years (four with P&O) including RCI & Disney and in general have loved every one of them and have at some point came away from them feeling very impressed at how things are done to make you the passenger happy. This I feel puts me in a decent position on what to expect from a cruise line and ship and because of this I can make comparisons. I'm not hard to please or impress but when I pay out my hard earned for something I expect a decent return, which I didn't get. I haven't mentioned everything here as I've probably bored most by now so I will leave it at that. I have read some good reports about this ship which bemuses me although expectations can vary amongst people. Would I use P&O again? without a shadow, just not this badly designed ship. Read Less

This was a taster weekend to Bruges Brussels however the port was changed to Le Harve in France due to the terrorist attacks. We understood this but there is nothing to do in Le Harve and it was a terrible choice of port. Embarkation - nightmare absolute nightmare we travelled as a family and were told we could board together, not so the check in staff were utterly rude to us really upsetting my elderly mum. Insisting she either board or wait another 3 hours until we were allowed to board. I found it all to be madness we booked this trip in August 2015 and to be told we could board at3.30 was disgraceful especially as we paid to upgrade our room to a cabin suite. Once boarding our luggage didn't arrive until 6:30pm so we couldn't make use of the swimming pool we were sent the wrong luggage labels and the cases went to another room! No apology here either, as first time cruisers we didn't check the luggage tags they sent us to our boarding card why would we! Once aboard service was slow waiting 45mins for drinks, half of the facilities were closed and only one jacuzzi open to the whole ship!! Unless of course you paid £25 each extra for the retreat! Erm who is prepared to pay this when we have paid £650 already for a weekend taster !! Disembarkation was like a cattle market no staff visibility people pushing in all over the place! It was awful and never been treated so bad from a tourist company. Expected more from P&O ship is beautiful but that is nothing with shoddy rude service and lack of ownership !! I would warn all people who are considering parting with their cash to think booking with another company Read Less

I had been looking forward to this cruise for months, Having been on other PO Cruises the Aurora, Adonia, Ventura, Oceana, The only was I can describe the ship is well past its sell by date,My cabin was tired and grubby, the carpet very worn and filthy, The shower was old and very mouldy around the shower unit the shower head caked in old scale, The wardrobe smelt damp and the doors rattled, I asked for a different cabin but told they had none available,The whole corridor stank of sewage, the smell was over powering and I am sorry a steward with a can of air freshener does not really cure the problem.I was not told on embarkation that there had been Norvo Virus on the previous cruise and was quite shocked when I ventured into the Conservatory to find waiters serving all the food and the sachets of salt and pepperThe Conservatory restaurant the only way I can describe is a bad Motorway cafe, Bunfight at the ok corral, The tables were not cleaned,The area at the far end on the deck had a smoking area and all you could smell at the end of the Conservatory was smoke not nice while trying to eat a meal and each time the door opened the smoke invaded,The Peninsular Restaurant, where did you find the staff. were they trained by Basil Faulty, they were rude and very unhelpful, during breakfast I had the experience of a waiter pushing my chair in while I was eating if he had asked I would have moved but no he preferred to just push so I ended up wearing my breakfast no apology, If you asked for further coffee or tea they refused the main aim was to sit you down and get you out as soon as possible. They were very abrupt I guess that was the training from the school of Faulty Towers,Afternoon tea Peninsular after the free for all in the Conservatory thought I would do things the good old PO way and have a proper afternoon tea, well Basil Faultys training was shown to its best, Offered Scones and little fancy cakes, then came the tea, something missing oh yes the sandwiches, they arrived after the cakes, teacakes and scones, Woe betide anyone that asked for more cream of more tea, the looks from the waiters would have turned Sybil Faulty to stone,All that was missing was Manuel but I am sure he was in hiding as the place was chaos.Evening meal..I was in the Oriental , that was a great improvement on the other restaurant, the staff were slightly better, But what have you done to the fantastic food, did you leave it behind in Southampton, everything was over cooked and stuck in fat to the plate, and the choices were nothing like my previous cruises.Standards have dropped,I had cheese and biscuits one evening one tiny piece of cheese and 2 small crackers and he had gone, If you want to see the photo ask, Your food used to be the highlight of my cruises,Entertainment the Headliners were very good as were the other acts and the male tenor from New Zealand was fabulous, However I don't go on a cruise just for entertainment,The swimming pool was warm and very inviting but not very clean , The hot tub was also not clean, not sure why standards have dropped. The service in the bars was brilliant but the quizzes and day time activity's left a lot to be desired,The port stops were good and I enjoyed myself , In Lisbon I did try and find out the cost of flights back but none available as I would have left then,You have major problems with toilets, blocked dirty, no wonder there is Norvo Virus its down to cleanliness and PO seem to have missed that,Within a day of leaving the cruise I was very ill, with a non specific infection which nearly killed me , and required me to have triple antibiotics, and home nursing from the district nurse, and daily visits from the Doctor, as I refused to go into hospital (personal reasons) What ever I picked up on the cruise has left me sick for the last 5 weeks, Yes I was tested for many things, but nothing specific, All I do know when I boarded Oriana I was well, I would love to know if others had been ill,Would I travel with PO again that would be No the standards have dropped. I also would never have boarded had I known the problem on the previous cruise with Norvo Virus, and I do think all passengers should had been made aware on Embarkation. Read Less
