Chose this cruise for the interesting ports of call and it certainly delivered on that front ! Visby and Klapeida were our favourites and of course St Petersburg continues to fascinate and amaze us. We loved all the ports and enjoyed all our excursions except Gydnia which is a lovely place but the excursion we did was very rushed. We think the P and O excursions are actually good value, especially with loyalty discounts. The Captain Neil Turnbull was great and kept us up to date every day with weather and funny little comments. He was seen around the ship and was always very friendly. The staff at all levels were exceptional and they made up for the minor irritants we experienced. The cabin was kept spotless by Mariam and thank you for her hard work and endless cheerfulness. Now the food and entertainment this is where it all goes a bit downhill....Food on formal nights is just laughable really...I am not going to don my dressing up gear for 3rd rate so called Gala dinners, Marco Pierre White, did you really come up with that weird menu !? What has happened to yummy things like lobster ( not that dried up little morsel we get now ) and fillet steak, we ate at the supplementary restaurants on every formal night as there was nothing to tempt us on those 4 nights on the MDR menu. Main dining room breakfast is still awesome and delish. Lunch in MDR boring, boring, boring, we only went once but looked at the menu every day, no inspiration there. The other nights in MDR were passable, all the food was tasty enough ( soups always nice ) but nothing to write home about and reminded me of hotels trying to be posh in the 1970's akthough I must say the desserts were always very good. Buffet was okay the few times we used it for quick lunch but what has happened to pizza at the Lido ? We were looking forward to a slice of pizza for lunch some days and now you can only get pizza from room service ( extra charge surprise, surprise). Beach house we ate there 3 times and all meals were nice and worth the bit extra ( fajitas too spicy for me and it was not explained on menu that they were spicy hot so maybe that could be added P and O ?) Sindhu, we got a deal on second night for £11 extra per person and the service and food were pretty good. Glasshouse was a letdown on first try, we had fillet steaks and they were chewy..when we told waiter they just kind of shrugged it off...no offer of free dessert or anything to make up for it. We tried again, second time round we had the Neptunes feast...if you are hungry don't bother with this, we had literally 6 prawns, 6 scallops and a tiny crab to share ! This cost £16 extra...I don't mind a bit extra but come on P and O this was a rip off.(see picture) Entertainment...who chooses the films..are they trying to send us into a depression..this is some of what we had to choose from...Murder on Orient Express ( quite good we watched that one but the sound was pretty fuzzy) then it all went downhill...other films we did not even bother to go to, Last days of Stalin, Churchill, The last Showman, some weird film about a woman in a mental asylum, Peter Rabbit, The railway children, the one film we did want to see, Red Sparrow, was cancelled because of a technical issue !!!! ?????? As for the in cabin offering, well I know we do not go on hols to watch telly but after a long tiring day ashore we do like the option of chilling in cabin with a good film..well, nothing there to be found...they do give you a printed TV guide but unless you can work out from one word what a film is about it is not much use. Mind you it did not matter much because the postage sized TV was so hard to see anyway. Poor Poor Poor...come on P and O get into this century when she goes for a re-fit. Would be nice to be able to see our bill on TV also please. Theatre shows...and live music....dire and boring except for the comedian (Jeff someone, sorry forgot his last name but he was pretty good). Do we really need that jingoistic flag waving we will meet again show anymore ? Not very diverse is it P and O ? Sack all the choreographers and bring in some new ideas...the dancers were not bad but they had terrible material to deal with. Lots of of the shows we had seen on other ships. Quizzes were fun and well run. We were so bored in the evenings that it took the gloss off our cruise. We ended up reading in the cabin for most nights...not really worth dressing up for formal nights is it if the shows are awful and the food is under par. I am sorry if I have moaned on a lot but those niggly things get under your skin after a while and if we had not been blessed with such lovely weather the cruise would have been bad for us. We were lucky as we got to be up on deck and in the pools a lot which was a lovely bonus. Cabin was fine, not a bad size for an outside with a nice sized bathroom with a bath so that was nice. Sea was smooth all the way there and back, never even knew we were sailing the whole time ! We are booked on Aurora for next year with Mum and Dad and really really hope the re-fit will bring forth some upgrades. I would be tempted to cancel our next cruise but Mum and Dad are looking forward to the Canaries so we will try again and hope for better food and entertainment. Read Less

The itinerary and the dates. Worst cruise I have been on engine problems late embarking and Cadiz not visited called in to Vigo on a Sunday at 5pm more for P and O benefit. Terrible crossing at sea with many I’ll, food poor, entertainment poor, overcrowded. We did not get off ship at Vigo as people were going ashore and coming straight back, so was at sea from Friday to Weds morning. Should have left ship in Barcelona and flown home. Will never cruise again with P and O. All the staff on board were great apart from sickly entertainment manager. We had planned this trip carefully as we do not like too many sea days wow what a disaster that turned out to be. Coach journey down great but coming back we waited for 2 passengers that we later found out got off the ship in Italy due to medical grounds. You would have thought that p and o would have notified the coach company. We then waited for 5 passengers from Cunard to be bussed over hence left at 10am after sitting on coach going nowhere for an hour. NEVER AGAIN P and O. Read Less

For a Flag Ship & so new, certain areas looking tired already. Our mistake was not appreciating a "weekend" cruise would be full of badly behaved stag/hen parties! Also, Freedom Dining, as included was very average & the buffet very underwhelming. The specialised restaurants were much better but of course at a price - not only a supplement but food supplements too. As a small group who wanted to sit together for dinner - not unreasonable - the only option to be able to book a table at a sensible time, was to dine at one of the specialised restaurants! Catch 22 situation. The "Formal" dining night requested was rather extreme for the ship/the clientele. Having been on a couple of other cruise ships, nothing about this experience will get us rushing back to this ship or PO I'm afraid. Recommend you read the reviews very carefully before committing. Overpriced for what it is, sadly. Lesson learnt. Read Less

Living just 40 minutes from Southampton docks means we can take advantage of short two and three night cruises regularly, in fact this cruise was booked much further in advance as we were going as a group of six taking two passengers on their very first cruise ship, we booked the cabins on a select fare meaning we could choose our cabin, dining preference and also receive an on board spend of £25 per person. We travelled to Bruges which we have been lucky enough to go to a couple of times and on this occasion we stayed on board and enjoyed the sunshine from the adult only pool on the top deck but if you have never been it is well worth a trip into, it’s very picturesque and also has some of the finest chocolate shops of anywhere in the world and they almost always give free samples. Boarding Britannia was docked at the Ocean Terminal, we turned up at the allotted time of 1300 on our ticket and were straight into the check in system without a wait, we queued for less than 3 minutes before we were seen, it was quick and efficient and after a short check in we were heading to security, we were on board within 30 minutes of arrival at the terminal, boarding into the stunning atrium and after a quick picture it was up to the buffet. Cabin GE Grade clear view balcony with sofa, G deck forward. First impressions were that the cabin was clean, light and airy. As you walk through the door you see the usual cabin layout, I was particularly impressed with the doing away off closed wardrobes with it instead being open and walk in rather than the standard closing door wardrobes. Moving into the bathroom we had a larger bathroom than the other members of the fleet, excellent bath products from the white company, moving through to a comfy queen size bed and two seater sofa which in our cabin could also be made into a sofa bed. The balcony as other passengers have said is a little on the small side and when opening the gate to the next door cabin it was hard to get in and out of our door. Restaurant We were seated both evenings on a set dining at 2045 in the Oriental restaurant, first impressions of the restaurant was it was smart, spacious and clean. On previous experiences with P&O I have found the food offering to be very middle of the road, nothing to write home about. Britannia has done some great work in restoring my faith in P&O’s food offering. I won’t bore you with the details of menus but the highlights for me were the Hampshire smoked trout starter, the beef wellington and as always they still offer a really great cheese board at the end of every meal. A quick note on the service, which was excellent, the waiter, his assistant and the wine waiter were all very happy, smiley and knowledgeable, making the service look effortless. A quick note on the buffet which also had an excellent range of food and was a much more pleasant space than many ship buffets, it was more spacious than some of the slightly older ships. Bars We particularly enjoyed the crystal room, it was a beautiful room with a large dance floor and offered a slightly more adult disco, the live lounge had a fantastic band playing although it was completely packed. We also visited the crow’s nest which was considerably larger than many ships it was also very beautiful with wonderful views, all bars we went into seemed to to have comfortable chairs with clean menus and an efficient staff. Spa Like most things on board the spa is large in expanse, however I was slightly disappointed as the thermal suite which we added was on the smaller side and neither steam room worked, the thermal pool however was very nice although the noise of the shower and bubbles being produced somewhat made the relaxation beds a little pointless and I found the general appearance lacked compared to other areas with pool towels and glasses everywhere which was a little bit of a shame. Those travelling with us took massages and were incredibly happy with both the deep tissue and the hot stone massage. Entertainment Aside from the excellent music playing in the bars during the evening, there was the theatre which hosts two shows each evening, the theatre itself is not huge for the number of passengers on board so if you don’t want to stand at the back it is worth to get there a little in advance, the show we caught was a Four seasons tribute which I think they do often have on these shorter cruises, they were a professional act and the show came across this way with excellent lighting and acoustics to match. During the day if the weather permits as mentioned above you can take advantage of the pools on the top deck, the adults only area towards to front end with pool and ample seating and bar was far more relaxing than the family area in the mid section where they had loud music playing throughout the day, it was a real positive that they had these two very different areas catering for almost everyone, there is also a small pool at the aft of the ship with a further bar this again was slightly quieter. We were not travelling with children so cannot comment on their facilities. Disembarkation Much like all disembarkation's it was very smooth, we disembarked at our allotted time after breakfast and picked our luggage up from the terminal and we were on our way home. General ship view The one thing that will hit you when you just arrive at the port is that the ship is huge, this view won’t change on boarding, a wonderful atrium with bars, shops and winding stair cases, be sure to get some pictures here on formal night. The one downside to Britannia’s size is that everywhere is a long distance walk but always worth it as the product on board is stylish and offers a five star style environment that I think P&O have lacked slightly on their other ships. Everybody also seemed to dress to the occasion and there were very few passengers who didn’t dress for the formal evening with black tie in abundance. An extra note was that as this was a two night cruise we didn’t have a full chance to experience everything and it would almost certainly have more to offer on a longer cruise. I have to praise P&O as the staff on board we all excellent, and they have certainly upped their game in terms of ship appearance. Overall this was an enjoyable two night break on board their flagship and I would not hesitate to return. Read Less

1. Food excellent, 2. Disabled cabin and bathroom perfect. 3. Crew fantastic, friendly and attentive 4. Bars, restaurants, entertainment venues very good but some are very “dated”. 5. Embarkation and disembarkation very well organised and easy to cope with. 6. Lift system is random at best and inadequate at busy times.7. Signage is still poor. On the last day of our cruise there were still people wandering round trying to find which deck things were on. Now for the bad stuff... 1. One announcement from the bridge saying there were “ technical issues” so we would not be going to Oporto. No further explanations given. There was a suggestion that a longer stop in Lisbon would fix the “issue” (what was it - there seemed to be an engine problem???) It was no benefit to the aging and disabled population on board to stay in Lisbon until 3’oclock in the morning. EVERYONE I spoke with wanted to go to Oporto.To miss it out was appalling. So our first stop was Vigo where almost everything was closed as it was Sunday so that was rubbish. Our second stop was Lisbon - wonderful entrance and beautiful City. However as I had been there before it was of course Oporto I wanted to go to. Oh and then the last stop at Guernsey I had to stay on board as I couldn’t take my scooter with me.. So I paid all that money to see a town that was closed, to visit a town I had seen before and NOT to go to Oporto or Guernsey.( obviously I knew Guernsey might be difficult but I hoped...) But not Oporto. I see no benefit of the rearrangement - we could have left Lisbon an hour earlier than stated and sailed to Oporto (even for an hour less than stated) 2, You must change Vigo as that was really poor. 3. You must also do something with your intercom. Not audible in the cabin - had to rush to the corridor to catch the end of it. 4. Too much maintenance going on - painting, hammering, areas roped off. The ceiling panels were changed for new ones at the Waterside area. So less places to sit. The discarded panels, metal rods and other debris was left on either side of the area by the doors for the restt of the cruise 5. Shops were limited and poor unless you wanted posh handbags or perfume! Overall having spent 6 days on board and only visited one place that was ‘open’ and interesting, I couldn’t wait to get off the ship. This mini-cruise was to let us see if we would like cruising (we had only been on the QE2 before) but our experience was actually DREADFUL> Read Less

We are reasonably well travelled ‘cruisers’ having done 120+ days on Cunard, 7 on MSC and 14 on P&O Britannia last year. The Britannia cruise, repositioning from the Caribbean to the UK in March 2017 was 100% fine and indeed we have booked the same cruise for 2019. Anyway, this current P&O 7-day cruise was not quite what we and everyone else expected. Itinerary to be: Southampton (Friday), Sea Day (Saturday), Vigo, Lisbon, Oporto, Sea Day (Wednesday), Guernsey (Thursday), Southampton (Friday). The good points: Embarkation on the 4th was speedy at 12.30 and bags outside cabin by 1.30pm. Obstructed Outside View Cabin E502 (on deck 8) was 100% okay for this short cruise and kept very clean and neat by our unobtrusive cabin steward, Angelo. Food in Saffron Restaurant (Freedom Dining in the evening) was fine and as good as, and perhaps better, than that in Cunard’s Britannia restaurants. Alcohol is much cheaper than Cunard, as are speciality coffees etc., and all WITHOUT the disgraceful 15% auto service charge added. For example, a bottle of Californian Rose wine is £17.95 net on P&O, whereas it is 36$US + 15% on Cunard – exactly the same wine! Service was quick enough in the restaurant. Alternative dining? Sindu is first class for £20 per head and Glass House likewise, but cheaper. Did not try the Epicurean or Beach House on this voyage. Self-Service Buffet had a decent selection throughout the day – cheeses were better than on Cunard(!) according to Mrs F. and no problem with finding a seat, if one was prepared to walk a bit. Entertainment – standard cruise line stuff – guests including Berni Flint, Tony Wallace etc. Disembarkation on Friday 11th – rapid – we were in the car at 8.46am and on our way. The bad points! On Saturday 5th at around 9am the captain announced that the ship had ‘technical’ issues. As a result, Ventura would arrive in Vigo at noon rather than 9am on Sunday 6th, but leave later in the evening to compensate. All rather useless as it was a Sunday and Vigo is hardly the shopping and food capital of Europe. It then got rather more interesting as we would arrive in Lisbon on Monday 7th at noon, but now leave at 3am on Tuesday 8th as this would help compensate for missing Oporto completely on the Tuesday 8th. Now, apart from a very brief slow period on Saturday morning, Ventura managed to get up to 20 knots quite happily as Saturday went on! The 3am departure from Lisbon did not result in the majority of passengers tasting the dubious night delights of Lisbon, as you would expect, and was therefore a total waste of time, although the crew liked it as they disappeared off the ship at 10pm all heading for God knows where. Now for the exciting bit: Costa Mediterranea docked next to Ventura in Lisbon on the Monday shortly after our arrival at noon. It left early that evening after a half-day stop (probably more than enough for most passengers) and then proceeded to Guernsey arriving shortly after us on Thursday morning at 8am, having done another port call in between – could that have been Oporto we all wondered? Ventura then managed to arrive at Southampton, after leaving Guernsey on the Thursday afternoon), bright and early at 6am on Friday 11th ready for the turnaround and yes, closely followed by Costa Mediterranea again. So, in summary most of us poor souls reckoned Ventura never had any intention of going to Oporto and if they had announced that fact before departure, many passengers would have demanded their money back and cancelled. As to what the problem really was? A deadly silence, and rather noticeably the officers were conspicuous by their absence from the public rooms over the 7 days. In summary – a poor effort by P&O, poor communication & no recompense in any form offered such as a free drinks session or whatever. On the plus side, at under £100 per day each, it was a bargain, but no excuse for not going where P&O advertised. Read Less

This was a first time cruise for us and the main reason for this choice was to be able to visit 4 ports. Apparently there was a technical issue with the ship, which meant that we would not be stopping at Oporto in Portugal. We also didn't go ashore in Guernsey, this was because of the ridiculous amount of time waiting for a Tender. We still have not had any clear answer of what the technical issue was and I am presently waiting for a reply from P&O. I wrote to them to ask why no compensation has been offered for the missed port. Pretty sure I will either get no reply or if they do reply, they will simply fob me off with some small print from their terms and conditions and will state that they don't ever give refunds or compensation. As this was out first ever cruise, we didn't know what to expect. However, before we booked the cruise I did read lots of reviews about various cruise ships. On nearly all the reviews people were saying that being on such big ships we would hardly notice any movement. We were really shocked by the amount of rolling around while we were at sea. It was quite bizarre because the sea was so calm. I can't believe that this was a normal amount of movement and I wonder if it could have been due to the technical issue the ship had. The movement was so strong that most of the swimming pools were closed a good number of times during the cruise. this was a bit of a spoiler for me because I wanted to go for a swim every day. I did take some video footage showing the swimming pools sloshing about and being covered with nets to stop people using them. I would love to be able to speak to some seasoned cruisers that travelled on this particular cruise to find out if they felt this was normal. My girlfriend really suffered with sea sickness during our cruise and it has put her off ever going on another cruise. I am trying to convince her that perhaps this wasn't how it would be next time (unless of course the sea is rough). If anyone can shed any light on this matter or even if anyone knows exactly what the technical issue was, I would love to hear from you. The cabin was very clean and we were well looked after by our cabin steward Colin. We choose freedon dining, which again was perfect for us and it meant that we could plan our dining around all the entertainment. The food was really nice in the main buffet with loyts of variety and we also enjoyed the lovely food and excellent service in Saffron, which we used on two of our nights. The entertainment was superb. The singers and dancers obviously worked extremely hard every night putting on two shows each night. The visiting acts were also very good. Our overall experience of the service was excellent. Everyone seemed to be very polite and always had a smile for us. Would we go on this ship or another cruise? Not sure at this stage because we need to determine if we would experience the same amount of movement that we did on Ventura or whether this was an abnormal amount of movement due to the technical issue, bearing in mind that the sea was very calm. We chose this cruise as it was visiting Oporto and Lisbon - well meant to have been. On the first sea day we were advised no Oporto due to technical failure which would be rectified in Lisbon. A late arrival in Vigo and evening departure From Lisbon to compensate! However with the speed we travelled on departure from Lisbon we are sure an earlier departure would have enabled a half day call at Oporto. Two sea days with little to do on board were rather tedious and we would not have booked a weeks cruise to have three sea days out of the 6 full days, Otherwise we were pleasantly pleased with the cabin HA Balcony on C deck with a 10ft deep balcony. We had travelled in January on the Celebrity Millenium and the cabin on there was dreadful by comparison. The food on board was of a high quality again unlike the Millenium, and the service from the restaurant staff and waiters on board was very good. Would I travel on the Ventura again? I very much doubt it. The ship has 3,500 pax capacity far too many people when endeavouring to disembark/embark by tender with 3 hours total spent queuing in Guernsey. I much prefer smaller ships such as a Queen Victoria and Oosterdam/Nieuw Amsterdam. Read Less

Embarkation smooth.Cabin an inside, bog standard but clean and tidy so no issues there.The cabin steward was friendly and tried to sell us water and the mini bar as soon as we got in our cabin.So before muster off to Malibar for a drink,we sat down,3 guys at the bar necking shots at 3.30 in the afternoon swearing like troopers!Not a single member of staff said a word,waiter took our order,30 minutes later our drinks arrived!! So we had to drink them sharpish....off to muster,sailaway indoors because of inclement weather,No problem with that you'd think, you'd be wrong,15 minutes for waiter to arrive,then another 30 minutes for drinks to arrive! Groundhog Day!! And so it goes.. Off to dinner, peninsula restaurant,service efficient if impersonal,wine waiter efficient,food standard,well pretty rubbish... I've cruised with P@O 12 times,last cruise was 4 years ago but boy have they destroyed in that time the quality of the food and choice...seared tuna starter with noodles,3 pieces of translucent tuna,so thin it must have been sliced with a razor blade, overcooked and cold,main,king prawns on stale ciabbata....prawns ok.dessert average, they've removed the always available range....cheese board,a joke, choice of 3 distinctly rubbish cheap cheeses...No stilton.....So all in all not good...Continual sales pitch about the pay restaurants etc....Room service was always included in your fare,not anymore! They now have a tray charge of 7 pounds per person for room service!!!! 14 quid for 2, utterly disgraceful ,I cannot believe they actually justify this way of basically ripping off passengers for every conceivable penny they can get away with, evening entertainment distinctly average,and the first time I've cruised where they've had bouncers on the ship in case of drunken trouble,this is a family ship by the way!! P@O have a responsible drinking policy so that passengers are not troubled by other passengers...This policy obviously doesn't include 2 night cruises or Azura for the ship was quite happy to continue serving people who were clearly very very drunk!! Abusive language abounded...it was no different at all to midnight in your local city's centre....Not a single officer of rank was to be seen anywhere...Public toilets were disgraceful,flooded and stank... Time in port was ok,usual trip into town and did our own thing.Gala dress up night,food in restaurant was anything but special...Marco Pierre white menu,well if he's happy to put his name to that he's obviously skint! Beef wellington...this consisted of tough beef in raw pastry,the pastry was soggy and inedible,the starter consisted of a piece of translucent salmon,I know there's a theme here! With half a quails egg... Wow, not! And the same behaviour as the night before in the lounges and Manhattan's...Removed our tips because of the utter garbage cruise...had to fill a form as to why...it wasn't big enough,P@O charge a tip of 14 pounds per passenger per day!! So a 2 week cruise will cost you an Extra 300 odd quid on top of your holiday fare and bar bill,if you manage to get a drink in 2 weeks and on top of your 14 quid per time if you want someone to walk up to your cabin with a plate of rubbish cheap processed food from the self service restaurant! Which I hasten to add had run out of beans and toast by 0830 this morning......I used to love P@O... but the innuendo it's a luxury great experience is well frankly about as short as pinnochios nose!!! If you want to go back to the days of the 80s drink filled booze cruise on a ferry then P@O Azura will fit your bill perfectly,if you want even half decent service, edible food,good entertainment,and a decent holiday experience without being robbed blind then book a trip with another cruise line.. .It really was that bad.... Sorry P@O... you've lost me after 20 years,I'm sure your not bothered though... Don't waste your hard earned money folks.... I've never been happier to be home. Read Less

This was a last minute decision,wanted a bit of sun and the Canaries are always a good choice, in fact it is my second favourite destination for cruising.Last minute booking but not a last minute price, paid the full whack for a DD category Superior Deluxe balcony cabin occupied by one, but paying for two.Must have a balcony when cruising, would not set a foot on a ship otherwise.I have stayed on Ventura 3x in as many years and it has never been plain sailing.My gripe? The hygiene.This is the dirtiest four star cruiser I have ever been on. Even now the overwhelming sense of grubbiness prevailed from the moment I opened the door to the cabin.New carpet?Fluff coming off as I walked around.The cabin is dark,this is not a complaint but a statement of fact,it is the second largest I have ever been in and if the sun does not shine without the lights it is dark.But it has a good size balcony without shelter, this means more sun than if there was another cabin above.Two beds pushed together to make a king size bed ,very uncomfortable,there was no covering on the top of the beds to soften the edges where they were pushed together.I loved showering standing in the bath-tub,the water was always hot and powerful,washing my long hair was easy.Toiletries were from the White Company,my favourite brand.There was no vanity package,in a Superior Deluxe cabin,everything should be provided.There were two soft and large dressing gowns, a pair of slippers, an umbrella and binoculars.The food was a hit and miss affair with more hits than misses,breakfast in the self-service always excellent,lunch not so much, but in the dining room it was adequate.Dinners in the Saffron restaurant were enjoyable,steak cooked to perfection,exactly as I like it,rare,chips always hot.,a nice side salad.The choice of food was good, at least two kinds of fish,good quality meat.Ice cream excellent, good cheese, desserts not to my liking.Entertainment was good,especially the comics.In site of my reservations about the hygiene, I had a lovely cruise.I know I will be back. Last minute bargain and thoroughly enjoyed. Food in buffet was pretty good although sometimes lukewarm but guess this is to be expected when such large quantities are being served. Meals in Baytree restaurant were really nice and service was prompt and friendly. Entertainment onboard was excellent. Ship was clean and all staff friendly and polite. We had an inside cabin which was fine but quite dated. Don’t think P&O should change for the shuttle service though, this should be included in the price. My only bugbear is people who don’t wash their hands after using the toilet nor using the sanitizer, I can never understand this and the lack of hygiene is pure laziness in my opinion! Surely it’s in everyone’s interest to keep sickness and diarrhoea bugs away so everyone can have a happy and healthy cruise. Embarkation at Southampton was quick, disembarkation a little slower but it was great not having to have the hassle of airports. Overall a great cruise and would definitely go on this ship again. The Cruise was everything i expected from P&O the Staff, Cleaners, catering, bar entertainment was Brilliant, The ship was always clean and tidy, the cabin was kept by the staff immaculate at all times, the dining in the restaurant was perfect, the food sometimes did let it down, but the choices we had in the buffet and other places to eat was entirely our choice, the entertainment was good, The service all over the ship was excellent. The excursions were always on top of our list, Rome was beautiful but very full on could have done with a stop over and taken out time. I would travel again with P&O perfect way to see the world. The entertainment was probably not too much to my taste as it was very strong with song and singing orientated and could include perhaps a nice drama, or a bit more theatre. Or the latest film from the cinema could have replaced one of the singing nights. Read Less

We chose this cruise because friends had been to the Adriatic with another company and had visited the same destinations. We both had always wanted to see Venice. This was our second cruise we have previously been on Magellan with Cruise and Maritime to the Norwegian Fjords leaving from Liverpool. Oceana is a much bigger ship with a higher price tag so we were expecting this to be a more luxurious experience. Firstly travel to Malta with Tui was awful the plane was cramped with little space between the rows and my seat had a broken food tray. It was one of their older aircraft It was a better plane on the way back. Malta Airport was a complete tip with huge numbers of people trying to exit through one small pair of double doors. After a short bus journey where we once more stood in a long queue in the sun (not pleasant and seemed unnecessary, Embarkation was slow and tedious with lots of elderly passengers standing in a long queue. The cabin was of a good standard with a balcony but it was smaller than the one we had on Magellan. The dining experience was good but the food at dinner wasn't as good as we were expecting as the Menu's were supposedly designed by a top celebrity chef. The service was good. The Argentinian Malbec was excellent. The food was not as good as we had on Magellan. The lunch menus were dominated by food of an Indian Nature (curry with everything) which is ok if you like spicy food. There was always a selection of good salads but they did seem to run low on fresh fruit and it wasn't replenished fast enough. There was an excellent ice cream bar near the pool. Can't really comment on the entertainment we briefly visited the theatre one evening where a girl was having a reasonable stab at singing Adele impersonations. We don't go on cruises to spend time in gyms,theatres, bars and casinos! Our cabin steward was average and didn't seem at all on the ball. Our cases we found down the corridor outside someone else's cabin and his provision of information was tardy and in some cases inaccurate which was one criticism of the ship in general. We were often left floundering for information about excursions and on a couple of occasions were misinformed. Thankfully the bed was very comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities were a bonus not provided on our first cruise. Room service was excellent and the mornings we chose to breakfast in our cabin were a highlight. It arrived promptly and was worth not having to push and shove and find a seat. Of the ports we visited and the excursions we booked:- 1. Dubrovnik the cable car trip was excellent with a lovely guide. 2. Split was not somewhere we would chose to visit again however the river boat trip was good apart from the lunch which was poor with wine like vinegar. Not too sure about the hygiene of the restaurant as my partner was decidedly queasy after we had eaten. 3. Venice was everything we were hoping for the boat trip we took had an excellent guide but unfortunately did not go down the Grand Canal but seemed to visit everywhere worth seeing in the lagoon. We would have loved a two day stay in Venice so we could see more of it. 4. Messina was well worth seeing just for the trip to the Cathedral and to watch the display of the clock tower at noon (not to be missed) Finally leaving Malta airport was a lot easier than arriving apart from the huge queues for the ladies toilets which wouldn't flush and stank to high heaven. To sum up we wouldn't book P&O again until it uses Liverpool as a home port as the whole flying and embarkation experience was not pleasant. Glad we chose a time when the ship wasn't full of children. Luckily those few on board were well behaved. We have another cruise booked on Magellan for later this year as we live in Liverpool embarkation without flying is just so much easier a 5 minute taxi ride away. Read Less

This was my first cruise and I wanted it to be in the Mediterranean which is usually fairly smooth. The facilities on this ship were really excellent. The cabins are well kept and the staff could not be more helpful. Both embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. Numerous staff were on hand at London Gatwick to assist and the flights and times were part of the cruise package. I was with two friends, and we went on shore to Monte Carlo (by tender) and also Corsica and Florence. All these trips were very easy although quite expensive. The single supplement meant we all paid almost double for the cabin but we had no interest in sharing. Dining was in a most attractive room with excellent staff. The entertainment was reasonable although usually of quite short duration. There were many activities during the day. We travelled as a group of three, and we had a table to ourselves for meals. In addition to the main dining room, there is an extensive buffet on the 14th floor, where one could get snacks, tea and coffee at all times. We will definitely be arranging a trip in the near future. Read Less

We chose P and O/Aurora on this occasion due to the destinations offered and the convenience of a UK to UK round-trip. Aurora is well proportioned,smart and generally clean,but certainly shows her age. P and O is cruising aimed wholly at UK customers, with tilts toward tradition and home spun culture which span restauration, on- board media, entertainments,announcements and excursions. We booked a de-luxe balcony which was well sized and adequately provided with storage. The table-top TV and the hairdryer were antiquated and the sofa was lacking any upholstery, with torn cushions.The bathroom was well designed, but old-fashioned with wall panels which groaned loudly on bad sea nights.The constant aircon fans were sometimes difficult to avoid.The only perk our cabin type benefiited from was an atlas which turned out to be older than the ship and contained not a single map of the whole Mediterranean Sea!Our invisible steward was superb at keeping things spic and span. We chose Freedom Dining and eat pretty well exclusively in the Medina restaurant. We alternated between mixing and sitting alone and took whatever seating was available.Some people claimed always to sit at the same table, but we could not be bothered to find out how that worked.The choice of food was good at breakfast, adequate at lunch, but seriously disappointed in the evenings.Most evening main dishes turned out to be meat and two veg, despite exotic menu descriptions.All courses were served at speed,ready-plated and generally hot. Condiments were off limits as we found out when asking for vinaigrette dressing! We used the Horizon self -service little, due to the limited,unappetising buffet options,shortages of seating (on clean chairs) and general pandemonium. Many people aboard were suffering from colds and coughs and we contracted a version of these which we decided to treat with honey and brandy. The carefully selected brandy however was confiscated on return from shore because it 'contravened regulations'! An announcement on the last evening advised that more than half the next day's departing passengers were leaving Southampton by coach. It was evident throughout that there were some quite large groups aboard, who teamed up for many events and sometimes comandeered large swathes of the public rooms, but did not seek to engage outside their groups. For us the six sea-days to get to Gibralter and back was time badly spent, but the shore destinations were pleasing, even if the duration of stay was mostly quite limited. The staff were generally very courteous and a special mention of commendation for the incredibly patient people on the front desk. We concluded that the trip was rewarding for the ports of call, but that most of the rest was below standard, given the price. Read Less

RCI, Princess, and Holland America are the premier league ones.This new ship is very drab.The passengers who all deserve a holiday age in 80+ if you do not have a wheelchair,scooter,walking wheel frame or walking stick you are in the minority.This is meant to be a family friendly ship? No so the children like us like ice cream, £1.95 a scoop or £2.15 for a Magnum on a stick.All other good cruise lines have these free.The shuttle bus in ports are £4.00 each way other cruise lines are free.Gratuities are £7.00 a day pp.14 night cruise is £98 With 3500 passengers = £343.000,and tips not going to the crew who have told us they get paid in US dollars.The cabin and bar staff and restaurant crew are excellent..The Headline theatre holds 930 seats for 2 shows a night.= 1860, then with 3500 passengers this leaves 1640 people who cannot see the main show.Dining is moderate to poor..Health & Safety, washing hands with anti bacterial is most important, the Horizion buffet has sinks to wash on entry,but the main dining rooms dis not have until we reported it,the the sprays were put in place at the entry to the dining areas..If you go ashore you have the sprays on you return to the ship,but if have all aboard by 4-30pm the sprays are taken away at 4-15pm so the last people on board cannot clean their hands. Decided to try a cruise from southampton. Embarkation very good disembarkation exceptionally good. This ship does not have any wow factor and appeared to be a little bit on the dull side with decor and is quite bland. The cabins are functional but the bathroom area is the smallest we have ever used on any ship as when you step out of the shower to dry yourself it is a tight space and on this particular cruise there were a vast number of disabled and elderly people who would have found this space very tight and I cannot believe there were sufficient disabled cabins on the ship to cater for them. There were an abundance of very large people also on the cruise and they could not fit in the bathroom space and went to the Spa to have a shower. The food in the Horizon Buffet was exceptionally good with a vast choice, there were also 4 speciality dining options on board with a cover charge of £25 per person this was also the charge for the Limelight Club which is a type of supper club where special guests performed. The entertainment in the theatre was very good but always full resulting in standing at the back, this spoiled any show as there were alot of people who had no idea what the show was but were there as it was a free show and promptly fell asleep and remained asleep even through the amazing voice of Sam Bailey. Apart from Bingo every lounge you visited seemed to be holding a quiz of some sort. Not an uplifting cruise by any means. Read Less

From Aft (back) of ship to get to restaurants(5/6) you have to go to level 7 then to midships then down stairs or lift. Not good for disabled. Most ships you can go down to level you want. Lifts are a pain and slow to get waiting 4 mins asifts hours past your level contantly. Lack of toilets and broken toilets towards end of cruise. Dirty in some cases. There are not enough open spaces it all felt claustrophobic. This is by far the worst cruise ship. Food Food was below average in buffer and sometimes cold or like warm. I'm sure on Oceana there was more choice than this and was better quality. Only had 3 choices to choose from. Trying to get a seat was nigh impossible. Felt sorry for disabled and elderly who had no help from staff. Trying to get cups at breakfast was difficult. When asking staff they said you go to other buffets to get cups. That's not helpful especially for elderly or disabled having to walk between buffets and then losing your seat. Food in freedom Dining was OK. Nothing special not as good as couple of years ago. Layout if buffet was odd and always really busy Service Service in buffet was bad, never enough cups and they really couldn't be bothered to go get some either even when asked to do so. Getting asked a drink was quick but actually getting the drink was really slow and having to ask where it was after 15 mins. In main restaurant they asked us to sign for our drinks when we serving our starters, (very odd as we wanted another during main course) they normally get you to sign bill at dessert or when getting coffee.. Not when your trying to eat your starterm Entertainment Evenings were good. Nothing really to do during day though. It was a about spending money on board. On sea days they were showing films on sea screen which is not good when it's bad weather. Runaround kids were really great and illusionist Philip hitchcock was great too. Cabins We had aft cabin b750 was clean. And a suppose upgrade although we had a steel girder coming through and blocking our view. But as we didn't go outside much because of bad weather It wasn't a problem. Cabin steward was really helpful and kept cabin nice and clean. Didn't do shore excursions we just went out and did our own thing. We will be trying other cruise lines out next. Our last cruise was with celebrity eclipse which was far superior ship than this. Had a great holiday on the lovely BrittaniaI! This was my first cruise – France and Spain 7days from Southampton. The ship was impressed, large and magnificent with lots of activities to do, such as dance classes, gym, sauna, swimming pools, bars, etc. Food was good and plenty with lots of places to eat and drink - buffet, grill bar and black tie restaurants. There were also plenty of places to sit quiet and relax if you wanted to. Service was brilliant and staff were friendly and helpful. Our cabin was comfortable and the cabin steward hard working and efficient. In part entertainment was ok, but could be better. We met many nice people and had a great time chatting and having fun. P&O had computer problems on the last day of our cruise, so we weren’t able to get our final bill, this was posted to us a week after returning home. Overall, my first cruise was amazing, with really good food and excellent service from staff, but on the not so good side, I didn’t enjoy most entertainments and the P&O computer problem was a big let-down. Service in restaurant was very hurried manic at times food was hit or miss menus ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous steaks were appalling and most evenings food was cold -lunch however much better than dinner food on buffet terrible and cold every time we tried it.we spent a lot of time up on lido deck and the outside tables were never washed down they were periodically tidied and dirty crockery removed but by the and of the cruise they were sticky ugh! They had new carpets fitted just before we cruised and they didn’t fit very well at all in the deck corridors and the off cuts and trimmings were still on the floor of the lifts up to last day! On the other hand the entertainment was good! But dress code for dinner non existent t shirts with rude slogans allowed come on!Would I cruise with p&o again I don’t think I would we sailed on Ventura on her maiden voyage and can honestly say that things have gone downhill since then the interactive tv screens we enjoyed all those years age eg cabin service /account accessibility no longer available Read Less

We chose this Azura cruise because we had been on the Azura twice previously and enjoyed almost everything about the experience.I will try to be fair and form an opinion on experience as a whole before choosing a score for the whole cruise. Of course the crew members were mostly charming and well mannered and they work hard. The captain was approachable and seemed excellent at his job. Individually entertainers were good or not good; that is a matter of taste. Our cabin was clean and our steward was hard working so no problems there. I will focus my comments on what I know and what I feel has changed since we last sailed on the Azura. The atmosphere on board, created by the entertainment director and his team, was so different and more" Butlins and Hi de Hi " than our previous Azura cruises which had catered more for "grown ups". The entertainment in the Theatre was usually of a good standard but the Elvis spoof by a deputy entertainment manager in the cabaret lounge was infantile and amateurish and smacked of cost cutting by not paying a professional. We had a constant general uneasiness that standards had slipped due to a cost cutting exercises and this view was expressed to us by many passengers. The Peninsular Restaurant menu was samey and after a few nights aboard I was aching for other food. Is the repetitive menu a PandO ploy to force you into another restaurant at extra cost? The Verona and Venetia restaurants lunch menu was not to my liking but I am prepared to accept that sliced processed sausages and slippery cheese are modern taste, I just happen to prefer sliced real cold cuts with a simple salad for lunch. Absolutely every day we found crockery in the cafeteria which was substandard. Cracked mugs, chipped mug rims and boken handles. Blue staining on the outside of the cups (undissolved detergent) day after day. Multiple tea and coffee stains inside the mugs, one instance of crystallised sugar at the bottom of a mug, two instances of what looked like thick coffee milk skin over a sizeable area of the mugs. On returning the mugs to a waiter I picked up another and found it had lipstick around the rim. On each occasion I returned the mug and reported it to the waiter as well as showing it to any bystander. Now for the cutlery. I usually made my tea and after stirring, placed the spoon in the "used" tin. On one occasion I accidentally left the spoon in my cup only to find later that it had sponge pudding stuck on it. Think about it. I had stirred my tea with a spoon that had been in someone else's mouth and not properly washed. I was also given a knife that had dried egg on the blade and on another occasion a knife had food of different colours all the way along the blade. Finally, three supervisors and a higher authority were involved in checking the offending unhygenic cutlery and crockery and were most attentive on seeing the proof. I suggested the dishwasher water wasn't hot enough. They were apologetic. They gave me a bottle of wine for bringing them the offending items and almost immediately put the matter right. We noticed a lovely shiny feel to mugs the following day. Thank goodness the supervisors admitted what I showed them was substandard and acted upon it or readers might be tempted not to believe the frequency. The night before our cruise ended we found a letter (not in a sealed envelope) outside our cabin regarding gratuities. It stated all the reasons why we should be giving gratuities and not opting out. It left a whole reverse side of A4 paper to state the reasons why we had not added any gratuities to our bill. THEY WERE WRONG. We HAD donated gratuities and after I pointed out their mistake we received an apology from the accounts department. But I have to say that I totally support the right of passengers to give or not give gratuities. It is up to the individual. For goodness sake, PandO, be honest. If you want the staff to have the gratuities, state the full cost of the cruise before passengers step on board and do not intimidate or embarrass them into giving more money once they are captives on the cruise. This was not our first cruise with P.O. but definitely the worst, Cabin kept perfectly by Edward and were given all the attention needed. Entertainment mixed plenty to watch but the venues are stretched across the ship, and people wanting to watch more than one programme per night had to traverse nearly the length of the ship. The theatre was very well built for the viewing of the shows/talks etc NOW the food, Having read the other reviews about the food being served I can qualify the remarks, I even saw the captain and commented about the uneatable FOOD being served and not a lot help was forthcoming, I then contacted the restaurant manager and arranged an appointment to speak about the matter, He was very polite and listened to the comments from myself and other cruisers, The sauces , custards gravies etc that were served was unbelievable just water and a colour of what it was supposed to be, Mint, Cranberry, Mornay, diners were refusing to have the sauce (water) put onto their plate. The creamed potatoes were at least 1/2 days old grey and when cut stood up like teeth.The manager said that the chef in charge had just come from another ship, he either needs retraining and the chefs beneath him need to be taught the correct way to make up the sauces, they forget that people will talk and comment about the food . The waiters in general were pleasant but some needed to retraining, some were leaning over another guest to retrieve the plate of another person who had finished his meal. We fortunately had two great ones, Garry and Ace, they attended their area with speed proficiency courteously.. Library was another nonentity with very little reading matter although a daily paper and crossword was published for the cruisers. Shopping was on three floors but expensive as usual. Our last time on the Azura after cruising on many other lines this was a complete let down. PattieJ Read Less

The Pulse were brilliant the Crystal room dance band were dire and the general shows were middle of the road. (More Hi DE Hi than London Paladium) The quality of food was average unless you paid extra for the alternative restaurants ( The Indian restaurant 'Sindhu' was excellent) Had issue with soot from the funnels landing on pool loungers and marking clothes (as did others) but no warning signs were put up. Also was very disappointed with passport control for some passengers with no obvious or given reasons. ( I don't like getting up at 0630 when I am at home never mind during my holiday) We gave the bar staff tips in cash as apparently they did not share in the daily service charge on the cabin bill - only cabin staff and waiters in the restaurant get that) Not a problem but it wasn't made clear and I would guess that most passengers didn't know. Couple of acts not so good, but we all like different things. Piped music far to loud on deck and in live lounge, no chance of having a conversation with fellow guests. I think a charge of £25 to watch Gareth Gates and Madeliene Bell in the Limelight Club ridiculous, when they could have had them in the Headliners theatre for all to see. I don't think you should have to pay to go to a venue onboard when you have payed a lot of money for your cruise. Lovely cabin and cabin boy so kind and helpful.all the ships staff were polite kind and go out of there way to help you. It was first time on Britannia but would do it again. First class service. We chose this cruise as a first time taster.Just 6 nights.Firstly the food was excellent we had an amazing choice either buffet or served in main dining room.Anything we had was fresh and well cooked could not fault at all.Room service again was 5 star our cabin steward kept our room in a clean fresh environment.The cabin itself was of good size and nice decor.We had a leaflet placed in our cabin every day to let us know what was happening on board.The entertainment in the evening was of an amazing standard and kept us well entertained every evening.The staff were always helpful and pleasant.The ship had lots of places to have a quiet and peaceful time if you wanted.The only downside on Britannia were the lifts and stairs.Depending on where you were the stairs were at one end of the ship which meant you had to wait sometimes for a lift to arrive.Also another tip is to take any unused hangers of the clothes rail as they rattle about when the ship moves about.Would we cruise again on Britannia yes most definitely really enjoyed our short cruise.Also If it is rough at all you do not get into Guernsey.We talked to a lot of other people who had cruised before and had not got into Guernsey on other occasions either so I would avoid Guernsey on your itinerary.
