G304 Northern Europe - Enjoyable!
"Would go to the high tables with the stool seating towards the rear of the buffet most mornings, this meant we were close to the various food stations in one particular area, so we could get cereals, fruits, drinks, cooked food etc all closely and as we go later, the queues even on sea days weren't a real problem, again, lunchtime, we always go slightly later so no issues with queues, we did go to the buffet a couple of evenings and as with most cruise lines the buffet food in the evenings contains some of the food that is available in the MDR that evening, so we just helped ourselves and had a quicker evening meal, again, no issues and all perfectly acceptable. The Quays, good food and an ideal size portion for a light lunch etc but, on sea days was just pointless trying to get food, just constantly busy, so we tried it on our day in Zeebruges as we stayed onboard that day, my partner had fish and said it was great and I had a burger and it was good, but, would I queue up on a sea day at busy times?..."Read More

Much better than expected.

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Iona

Firstly, this is my first cruise and I’d rate it as 4.5 however obviously I have nothing else to compare it to. 95% of elements either met or exceeded what I was expecting. The food was surprisingly good, especially The Quality in the restaurants and the prices weren’t overly pricey for drinks etc. The room was amazing we thought, we thought the walls would be paper thin but that ...

OK but other cruise lines are better

Our honest cruise review. For background, i have done 142 nights at sea on cruises since 2008. We were allocated a fabulous cabin in a great location, it was right at the start of the corridor so no long walks from the stairs or the lifts and perfect for skydome, taste 360, the horizon and the epicurean and crows nest was only up one flight of stairs so again very quick from the bar to the ...

Wouldn't travel P&O again

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Iona

Frequent cruisers but first (and last) time we'd go with P&O. Generally the entire thing felt disorganised and designed to milk as much money out of you as possible. Appreciate everyone has a different experience and maybe ours was exceptionally bad but wouldn't book again based on much better experiences with other cruise lines. The drinks package appears to be somewhat of a scam. Things like ...

7 Night Norway Cruise Review

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Iona

Do not book in advance! We booked many months ago and the price fell considerably in the three months before sailing! No on-board credit or compensation was offered (P&O used to do this). Hold your nerve - there are plenty of last-minute deals available for this massive ship. The cruise itself was good. The food was good and the service in the Pearl restaurant was excellent. The same could not ...

Another perfect cruise with P&O

I sailed on P&O Iona on a solo cruise from Southampton to Norway at the start of May 2024 and overall I was very happy with the cruise I was staying in an interior room at the front of the ship on deck 14. The room itself was nice and large enough for 1 or 2 people, the room was very similar to the internal room that I stayed in on the Costa Smerelda, which isn’t too surprising as it is the ...

Fantastic first cruise!

We have just returned from our first cruise. We travelled to Norway on Iona. We had read some good and bad reviews on our journey to Southampton, We have nothing negative to say about our experience at all and I struggled to understand other’s criticisms. From the moment we arrived In Southampton to leaving the ship, our experience was fantastic. The embarkation/disembarkation process is ...

Decent ship - but lots of fellow passengers!

This was our 5th P&O cruise and the 1st time on IONA. We travelled as a party of three, two adults and a teenager. This was also the largest number of fellow guest passengers we have ever sailed with circa 5.5k. The ship was full. Boarding that many passengers is always going to be a challenge, which was the case, slightly longer than normal with the process taking around 90 mins from parking the ...

Tried it but sadly not for me!

Review for a Canary Islands Cruise on Iona

Needs a complete re think on many of its services. Did a P&O 8 years ago and wasn't impressed but tried again to see how things have improved. Sadly I am unable to give a good review. Cabins are ok but if you don't put your sign on the door it won't be cleaned.. its apparently policy that staff can't go and clean unless you put a sign on your door... anyway.. you only get hand-wash, shower ...

Room for improvement

My daughter wanted to visit Holland as her grandmother was Dutch, we had to travel in the school holiday as she works in a school. There were several issues we had; we had a lovely relaxing couples massage and then experienced a hard sell of the products, practically being 'tricked' into saying yes. My daughter wanted to buy a drinks package but, apparently we both had to purchase a package, which ...

The only word is "meh"

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Iona

This was the second cruise my partner and I had ever taken, the first being a short taster cruise on the P&O Ventura for 4 nights. This cruise was for 7 nights and was visiting 3 locations around the North Sea. The best way I can describe our experience on Iona is... "Meh". It wasn't horrific, it wasn't perfect, it was just slightly below average. The positives; the crew were helpful and ...
