First Cruise with P & O and extremely disappointing. Definitely not good value for money.
The ship is old and tired. We had a wonderful cabin steward, who was helpful and friendly. Our cabin was clean but in need of a whole refurbishment. The first night we dined in The Meridian, the service was awful, we waited 50 minutes for our starter, then 50 minutes for our main. The wine arrived with ...
This was the second cruise my partner and I had ever taken, the first being a short taster cruise on the P&O Ventura for 4 nights. This cruise was for 7 nights and was visiting 3 locations around the North Sea.
The best way I can describe our experience on Iona is... "Meh". It wasn't horrific, it wasn't perfect, it was just slightly below average.
The positives; the crew were helpful and ...
Where to begin?
The positives, embarkation was very quick and straightforward.
Entertainment, there was some very good shows on board presented by the entertainment team - there was also even better shows in the skydome performed by an acrobatic group - PULSE the band also put on some good shows each night.
I wouldn't like to name them but other acts we saw were really not ...
The greatest disappointment was the food which was universally poor and sometimes inedible. Even the specialist (££) restaurants did not have the highest standards.
We had splashed out on a suite and expected a bit of pampering but other than priority boarding and a couple of cabin gifts we got nothing (£20 for drinks with the Officers? £20pp per day to use the private Retreat deck? £30pp for ...
We bought this cruise for a birthday event. This was our first cruise and after watching a number of cruise programmes on channel 5 I was apprehensive after booking it.
We travelled for 5 hours to get to Southampton- we were starving and found there are no facilities at the Port terminal to eat. There was a cafe but it was shut. Embarkation was quick but not easy when you are a first time ...
PO Cruise on Iona - Norwegian fjords, August 2023
This was our first post-covid cruise. My wife and I have cruised several times before and on this occasion we booked a balcony cabin for ourselves and one for our 19yo niece as a treat. We had watched several reviews of Iona on youtube and learnt a few useful tips, such as don't take a balcony cabin on the dreaded deck 8 (or 9 for that matter). ...
Food very disappointing even on formal night. Staff not friendly or interested unlike celebrity cruises. Spa awful. Waiting over 50 mins for appt as they missed me. Could have done my hair better and husbands had close shave but has a 5 o’clock shadow after an hour !! No focus on customer care. Celebrity you can give real time feedback. No opportunity to do this. They don’t want to know !!
The ...
Just back from a 7 night Norwiegn Cruise around the Fjords, beautiful destination and ports.
The Iona from the start looked special, but sadly the service on the ship is sadly poor, also the whole ship is run on a holiday app, I hate my phone on a business day never mind on holiday.
Also unlike other cruise ships turndown service is once a day my Mums cabin was not even doen one day, I asked ...
Having just returned from a P&O cruise to Norway on the Iona my overall impression - Norway fantastic - itinerary good - Iona unfavourable. It appeared to be nothing more than a very slick exercise in blatantly encouraging the holidaymaker to part with his money as fast and as often as possible.
Freedom dining ? Not really, difficult to book in the main restaurants where food is provided ...
If you want disgusting food, then this is your ship! The buffet food was shocking. The speciality restaurants only slighty better , even with the extra costs and if you could get a booking.
Entertainment was pretty.ok.
Balcony room was fine and cleaned every day.
I wouldnt go on this ship again.
Scenery in Norway stunning.
Staff helpful and generally friendly.
People who have ...
