Not too bad.

A 4 day mini cruise from Melbourne to EDEN (NSW) and it was good. Food was OK. We ate mainly in the MDR Waterfront and there were no complaints. A small serve of one dish I had and the waiter offered to bring another serve or another choice. Had breakfast at the buffet and that was OK but annoyed that some people during busy times were just sitting at a table staring out to sea and not eating. ...

We, a group of 5 just came back from the most enjoyable 6 nights on the Pacific Jewel. After reading some of the quite horrendous reviews I was expecting the ship to be 1) So run down that it needed to be decomissioned 2) the food so bad we would all die 3) the staff so unfriendly that we would be in tears and 4) be so bored that we would want to jump overboard...I am pleased to say that none of ...

OK for a first cruise but overall an average experience

This was our first cruise and we are glad we chose something short and local to see if it was something for us - but now that we've experienced this we may consider other options in future. My wife and I went on the cruise with our son (3.5 years old). Firstly the good: * staff were friendly enough - although English was a challenge at times. * the ship was generally clean, though in ...

Thoroughly enjoyed our first cruise

Chose this cruise as it was a "last minute" sale offer at an extremely good price, with room credit. We had never cruised before and wanted a shorter cruise to try out whether we would like it. Getting to embarkation was frustrating as our flights got into Sydney too early to realistically use the shuttle. Once there, getting on the ship was okay. Disembarkation was much easier. The ship ...

4 night sampler - Moreton Island

Wasn't very impressed at all. Being an ex cruise ship employee I have sailed on many ships and found this one to be best summed up in one word - tired! The interior of the ship is dated and in some parts worn and dirty. One waiter and purser were downright rude ( Restaurant supervisor on the other hand was extremely helpful but shouldn't have had to be called). The pantry food was fairly ...

group of 18 choose to do this cruise who have not attended the Melbourne Cup We embarked White Bay Sydney Terminal on boarding meet the cabin staff was impressed with the cabin and each of the day cleaning and notices. Dining was good in the Waterfront each night after show which was good entertainment with shows like the LAIR , the service in the drinks could improve in a one off beer service ...

Chose this cruise as I was turning 70 and was looking for memorable experience to celebrate this milestone in my life. However on boarding Pacific Jewel was totally underwhelmed from the start. Without detailing problems experienced they were with dinning in Waterfront restaurant, lack of choices of desirable food in the Pantry. No towels or toilet paper in cabin when arriving at cabin, lack of ...

Ship is run down and needs to be scuttled

For my first cruise, what a let down. Aged ship, broken fixtures and fittings, duct tape to cover up sharp edges, room had hair on the window sill and in shower on emarkation. Staff were friendly but most seem non-motivated, especially cafe and shop staff. Advertised events didnt happen, buffet was pure rubbish. Nothing kid friendly, choice of Chinese 2-3 dishes, Indian 304 very spicy or ...

Worst quality of food in the Australian cruise industry

Rooms are dated. A few touch ups such as furniture and paint touch ups would go a long way in maintaining the condition of the room. Cleanliness level was ok. Every once in a while it would be a good idea to move the bedside drawers out of their place & vacuum the carpet underneath. Ceiling & wall on one of the top bunks had stains. The Food & Beverage service staff are the stars of the ...

Nice cruise but loud mini suite

Review for Pacific Jewel to Australia & New Zealand

We chose this cruise to see more of our wonderful country. We did not spare any expense and booked a mini suite cabin 11148. Although the ship needs a clean we could look past that as the cabin was nice and spacious and the staff were just wonderful. The one issue we had was the amount of kids running and jumping around in what you might call uncontrolled! Not really P&O's fault but surely ...
