My elderly mother has always wanted to go on a cruise and so she finally decided to go on one and bring her two children along and her grandchildren. She chose MSC because all of her friends had persuaded her to as they described it as 'wonderful'.
When we finally got to the port in Palermo went queued up for ages to register ourselves and to get our bags sent to our rooms. As soon as we got on the cruise the staff took our pictures so they can register us and they were very welcoming! But as we finally thought we were free to roam around and explore the cruise all the members of staff wanted to sell everyone drink packages and they were very persistent.
When we finally got to our rooms we were amazed at our view - we had paid for a balcony view and it was marvellous. There were deck chairs on our balcony and I would be lying if I said I didn't spend ages relaxing on the balcony throughout my stay.
My two daughters shared a room with my mother and my auntie and so my daughters had to share a sofa bed. The sofa bed was apparently extremely comfortable which was very good. In our rooms we could alter the temperature which was amazing and the room service was brilliant. The cleaners NEVER interrupted us at all and if you leave dirty towels near the sink they clean it for you free of charge.
The restaurants were okay, it was nothing amazing. We had steak one night and we asked for medium and it came back burnt. The food in the buffet is a lot better than the food in the restaurants surprisingly. The buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they serve pizza 24/7.
One night we had dinner at the buffet and watched a show at the theatre. The theatre was huge and they offer many shows. There was always something to do on the cruise like going to the arcades, the pool, shows etc. The entertainment is amazing!
When you arrive in a country you are basically given no guides at all. Most of the time have to pay for the bus or a taxi however at Rome there was a free bus. You can pay for a tour guide but it is very overpriced.
However, there is one big reason why I would never go on an MSC cruise again. I have an twenty-year-old and a thirteen-year-old daughter. Whenever we went to the restaurants or buffets they would be 'catcalled' or whistled at - it was horrible! One time at the buffet a worker got in the way of my daughter and wouldn't let her pass and was very tormenting. There was an older worker who was bald who looked down my younger daughters top. The workers were absolute perverts! If you want to go on a cruise I suggest going to a different one if you want it to be a family-safe environment as the service is very bad. Read Less
