When my partner and I cruised the Caribbean on Oasis last year - we were so excited had a great time that we decided to book a second cruise - on the new Ovation of the seas The ship itself is wonderful. It is large, modern, great decor, casino is well organised, and the two-seventy area is magnificent. They even had a sports bar that’s always open for games - unlike the Oasis. The onboard activities were also very good. Ifly (which normally costs $100 in Sydney) was free, rock climbing, a lot of trivia etc. however I had two major problems: 1) the escape room activity was practically impossible to book as a slot would only open when there is a request. This means you can’t book online. In fact - I’ve only seen two timeslots available - both while we were in Hong Kong rather than a sea day. 2) the staff during the bumper cars was appalling. It is a 3 minute ride - and a few of the customers were unable to drive their cars as they didn’t know how exactly - and rather than go and assist they just continued to chat among themselves and not paid attention. Now that’s out the way: Food is mostly good. I see a few people complaining here but to be honest I did not have any issues with it - especially considering the freshly made stations. Maybe there isn’t as much variety as before but the food itself was fine. The specialty restaurants were adequate and definitely worth the $28 a head per meal. They are unlimited food too. The hot dog takeaway was only open 5 hours a day or so - which is highly disappointing Customer service was probably the most disappointing experience in the ship - while the cleaners and waiters were good - the helping stuff was not. They never had the right answers and there was always a long wait. Consistently they would need to call their manager for every issue. The half the soda machines either didn’t work or had no coke in them! Ridiculous. You pay $12 a day and you expect the coke. And this was the case for at least half if not all of the cruise time. Yet the staff couldn’t do anything about it. Asking about excursion help was difficult too as the staff was unable to answer whether I would be able to do a particular excursion due to me being on crutches. disembarking was terrible in China and completely unorganised. I was with a broken foot and on crutches yet was made to stand for over an hour - no helping staff, or anything at all. Really ridiculous. It’s a shame as the ship has high potential but is completely disorganised. Lastly - shore excursions were hot and cold. Some of them were great (Hoi An and beijing) while some were really disappointing such as denong - mainly due to the Ho Chi Minh port cancelling several days prior to arrival. Read Less

wanted to see Vietnam and bangkok both spoilt by very poor admin.Unless you fold napkins, dance, play trivia there is no daytime activities as they only take about 20 peoplefor water class eg, In Singapore 3000 diamond members got on the ship and think they own it and just took over all bars in the evening wher we had a drink before dinner, We missed our day trip n Bangkok because of bad organisation costing us $500 out of pocket as I cant use the ship tours and plan my own. It was a disgrace we were treated getting off in all ports ecept Adelaide and Hobart. The food was not up to the standard we expect fro RCCL, I use a scooter and there was only 2 spots in the theatre for disabled and from Singapore there a lot got on with wheelchairs, scooters, walkers so was very hard to get to the shows unless which is what we did line for over 1 hour to get a spot. The ship is far too big and very badly managed. we are emerald after this trip but no way will we get any higher as we will not travel RCCL again back to Princess for us where you get treated more like a human. Also the drinks are so expensive $17 US fpr aglass of wine in the dining room.the waiters we had would not get a job in the local RSL here. wrong dinners served many times. So to sum up never again on Ovation Read Less

Having only been on 1 cruise prior a short 3 day one, we chose this cruise purely for the ship. The location was then selected and as it had a number of stops to break up the trip and went for this one with stops in Vietnam and Thailand before arriving in Singapore. We also had not visited HK before so that was an added bonus to fly in a few days prior to look around. Despite the stops, we could have done with more days at sea as there was so much to do on the ship. The ocean was flat all the way and was perfect. The weather had a few overcast days but only rained once or twice. We expected for the size of the ship it would be overcrowded and embarkation and disembarkation at the Ports and pre/post cruise would be a nightmaree but it was a painless experience. Some of the prior reviews rated this negatively and I guess they have put more focus on this as the wait times were minimal and we got on and off the boat easily. For the number of people (around 4300 guests) it did not feel crowded at all, there was always plenty of space. We had an interior stateroom with a virtual balcony (9185) and it was excellent. We have stayed in a balcony room before so wasn't sure what to expect but I was more than happy with the room. Friends stayed in a balcony room and the size and layout was exactly the same except for the balcony. The virtual screen provided a good look at what was going on outside the ship but we hardly noticed as we were never in our room. Once we left in the morning we didn't return until night before getting ready for dinner or to go out. We did the most of the activities on board, Eye in the Sky, I-Fly (sky diving), roller staking, bumper cars, rock climbing, basketball, ping pong etc. There was a lot to keep you occupied. All of which was great fun. I travelled with a group of 10 (5 couples, no children). There were not many young kids on board that we saw, and same for teenagers. However, there were specific kid and teenage activities arranged and the sporting area (ping pong, roller skating, basketball, volleyball, bumper cars, xbox lounges, foozball etc.) as well as the arcade would be awesome for them, it was pretty impressive. My teenage son was a bit envious he didn't come! We saw the Love Legs show (may have the name wrong) which was excellent. Great singers and performers. Entertainment was generally high quality. The ship has a huge lounge called the 270 which has screens that cover all windows. One of the shows Pixels that you had to book for showcased the facility with moving screens, light show etc. The show was a bit out there but it was good to see the full capability of the facility which is pretty amazing. The food was excellent in most of the facilities. Fine Dining was a bit disappointing and the standard was ok, but not great. We had better meals in the Windjammer (buffet) and ate there on most occasions. I think this was consistent with most travellers as we tried fine dining again on day 4 or so and there was hardly anyone there and they were so grateful we went back. Again, meal was ok and we didn't return again. The buffet at Windjammer was very good quality, could not fault it. So much variety and suffice to say we ate a lot! We also pre-booked Jamie Oliver and Chops Steakhouse both of which were very good as well. The food was unlimited and we paid around $35-40 pp pre-booked and it was well worth it. Plenty of other places to eat but we did not try them all. Also did room service breakfast before tours in Port and this was also good. A few in our group smoked and there was a good area on the pool deck with nice lounges and you could open the windows. A few commented this was a lot better than other cruises where you can be stuck in a tiny, crappy area. We booked our own tours rather than go with the boats which was perfect for a group. We used a Company called "Shore Excursions" in both Vietnam and Thailand. It was much better as we did not have to wait for other people and could adjust the itinerary on the day. The itineraries and tour guides were great and would highly recommend this as well. As you can see by my novel - we loved our time on Ovation!!! Read Less

Thought it would be an exciting cruise and brought along 21 family members. Ship was relatively new and food was okay. We all spent big bucks on rooms with balconies and one of us had a birthday and all royal caribbean did was left a really tiny birthday card in the room, so tiny it almost got discarded as waste paper! Such was the generosity and extent of so called excellent customer service. We will never go on any royal caribbean ships anymore ever. worst experience and really boring. do not recommend cruising on this ship , the only decent activity was meal time even that you have to wait for tables. The pools were for looks only and small , cannot accomodate more than 10 at one time or chances are you will bump into each other. Cruise really did not offer much. such disappointment. Wish i could have my money back!! Read Less

First time have the cruise holiday with my family, chosen the Balcony Room with Sofa Bed and the room size is comfortably accommodate 4 of us. We were so busy everyday with all the onboard activities such as Ripcord by iFly, bumper cars, flowriders and the swimming pools, and NorthStar. We have bought the 3-days Specialty Dining voucher and there is no regret for paying extra on this, although Royals ships have fabulous buffet dining which is inclusive in the package. But still the whole dining experience was wonderful, from the restaurants' ambiance, staff service, food variety and quality, thumb's up! After our first experience with Royal Caribbean, we know that it's very difficult for us to go others cruises as our expectation will be super high and in Asia country, I believe there is not many cruise would be able to beat The Royal standard. Now we are eagerly waiting for the new Oasis ship which hopefully by 2020 it will complete it's construction and come to Singapore soon! Read Less
