Told this USED TO BE a great cruise line. Times have changed tremendously!! Definitely a 3rd rate ship in need of professional leadership at the corporate level. The ship is run as though they going broke!! You pay for two fares for you and your partner, then are told the so called free internet can only be used by one of you at a time??? Or you can pay an additional $270 for the other person. They allow one bar of shower soap for two people to last 2 weeks. The same with the small bottles of lotion and shampoo ! Of course, you can purchase more.... Food quality has definitely declined significantly!!!! And the portions are meager as you almost beg for more. Waiters have been ordered not to ask would you like another drink, unless it is one you are buying. We would never cruise with Oceania again. Caveat emptor.. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the ports and food but I was very disappointed in the addition of an additional tender at Sydney and Sydney in general! It is a port that should be taken out! Instead add a day to Quebec City as the time spent there was way too short. It was also hard since the time spent there was cut short. I also think the beverage package is over priced. You should be able to get wine at the bars too especially since most days, we are not there for lunch! The spa is nice but you need more than one bathroom in the changing room. We did have wonderful staff that cleaned our room(Leadie). The food was very good especially in the specialty restaurants. The excursions were very expensive and the ones that I would have been interested in were moderate and were filled. Thank you Read Less

Having sailed on sister ship Riviera in 2018 we were confident in what to expect on Marina. Excellent service, wonderful ports and great food and spirits. Marina did not disappoint. The ship is small enough that you can easily move around, yet large enough to have multiple entertainment and dining options. My wife likes the shows, I enjoy making an evening contribution to the casino. It is nice that they still have a craps table. Many ships have done away with them. We enjoyed the specialty restaurants and Le Reserve. The main dining room is beautiful, we really enjoyed a peaceful breakfast in the MDR. The buffet option can be crowded. We embarked in Denmark visiting; Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and disembarked in Sweden. St. Petersburg was fantastic. We hired a private guide and driver through TJ travel. Excellent choice. Slatvana Andrusheko, was encyclopedic in her knowledge of Russia. In another life she was a Russian History professor. It really made the trip extraordinary. We had her and the driver for 2 full days. It is a big plus having a driver ready to pick you up to take you on to the next site. Plus they have already acquired all entry passes to the venues you must see. She took us to local restaurants and markets. We got a real feel for St. Petersburg. Our first port, Warnemunde, Germany was a real surprise. Very nice summer vacation spot with a real small town appeal. Take the train to Rostock if you are inclined, very easy trip. We rented a car on the Island of Bornholm, Denmark. A very nice day drive. In many of the ports, we just jumped on the Hop-On - Hop Off bus for a great city tour. Helsinki was really a highlight too. Our cabin was spacious and very accommodating. No complaints about the food or drinks. We do purchase a drink package and find it to be a good value. We didn't book any of our tours with the ship, we found better value doing it privately. We are also a bit more adventurous and enjoy hunting out different sights. The only "negative" we found on the ship was my wife wanted to participate in the on-board art class, but this ship had more children on then usual and they were crowding the art class. Not a big deal. We do enjoy Oceania because it is primarily all adults. We love children, but we don't miss the screaming, crying and running. The literature and website is quite clear in this is primarily adults. No climbing walls, no slides, no big screen TV, no Mickey and Minnie. As a grandparent, we have taken our grandchildren on cruises, but more age appropriate lines. All in all, Oceania met our expectations. We put a deposit down on another cruise in 2020. Read Less

Just returned from the Tokyo to Singapore (25day)segment of the World Cruise on Insignia. (We were not advised at time of booking with Oceania that we were joining a world cruise)Spent a lot of money on this trip and have never had such a bad experience on Oceania. We were not aware we were joining aprox 360 world cruisers (w.c’s.) but found out right away that cliques had already been established and it was almost impossible to penetrate the barrier between the segment guests and the w.c’s. Getting a large table for dinner was near impossible (never experienced that). Several events were organized for the w.c’s (special events and private parties)while the rest of the segment guests were left behind with little and sometimes no entertainment at all. We also realized the segment guests were paying US$100 pp.pd more than the wc’s we assume to subsidize the world cruise. Never been on an Oceania Cruise where there were NO extra activities. Especially on sea days. It was the usual bag o beans, trivia, mini putt and table tennis. It was sooo... boring. We made our displeasure known to the concierge on two occasions and promises were made that our concerns would be escalated but of course we heard nothing. We have sailed many times with Oceania but won’t will be sailing with them again. Perhaps the new owners (NCL) are making their presence known. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation was relatively smooth. Don’t expect much hospitality. Employees are not excited about their jobs so don’t expect many smiles either. We spent much extra to stay in a (PHS) Penthouse Suite and was advertised our own personal Butler, (which was shared by many other suites so personalized is the farthest from the truth.) He is given too many rooms to service. We also understood we would have preferred tendering, (which we were first to get tickets, but told we would be last. Yep, last to tender.) We almosted missed our excursion. Does the ship care? Nope! If you book through them then you are first to tender. *Know b4 you go! Next the food. Why does everyone rave about the food? Ugg! My wife got sick on the fish. It was not cooked though enough. The Caesar salad is soaked in dressing every time! It was gross! Our friends lobster was over cooked. The buffet breakfast is pretty good but basic. We ordered room service breakfast. The scrambled eggs were runny, boiled eggs inconsistent. The fruit was mushy & over ripe most of the time. If you wear a hat to dinner, be prepared to be kicked out!! We were late for almost every port with little time anyway. Then paying extra to be in a PHS and having to be last to tender. What a slap in the face. Bottom line: a PHS gives you nothing extra really! The laundry service is terrible it took four days to get 20 items back! Four tiny washer & dryers for the whole boat so get ready to stand in line!! Now Entertainment: (———.) that describes it. VERY limited, basically nothing. The butler &/or staff is always pressuring you to buy something like an excursion or wine tasting or martini tasting (they must be getting a commission!) It just sucks!!! The rooms are small and closets are too. We have sailed other cruise lines and not had such a terrible experience. Oceania is not for me. Read Less

Finally got to take another cruise from my bucket list. Sailed on Riviera and found the staff very enjoyable. Everyone were more than happy to help in anyway to make my stay with them an enjoyable one. I had dinner at Red Ginger (get the Sea Bass), Polo Grill, Toscana and the Main Dining room. All the meals were delicious and I found the wait staff very friendly. I can’t wait for my next cruise. Being a solo traveller, I decided to sign up for some of the ships tours. The kayaking experience was very interesting with our tour guide filling us in on the sea life around Great Stirrup Cay. I think the group thoroughly enjoyed his talk. Another day found me on a trolley train in St.Lucia. It was a great ride and our conductor was a very funny man. We got to see through the town of Castries, as well as a ride to a lovely beach, it was a fun day for everyone. We were never far from areas to shop at any of the islands that we visited. I did overdue it a little bit at the jewelry table on the ship, but that’s what vacations are all about. Touring by day, shopping by night! The catamaran sail at Sr. Bart’s was a wonderful way to spend time there. While many found the shopping very expensive, I found the sailing and swimming in the cove to be a wonderful way to spend the day. I would highly recommend any of these tours. Let me start with the entertainment. First Rate. 12 Person very high end team dancers and Singers. Great shows. We saw three different shows in ten days. So well produced and choreographed. Beautiful costumes with many changes. And excellent recorded music. Sets and background video images on screens. Of the forty cruises we have been on, on Cunard, HA, Seabourn, Silversea, Regent and Celebrity, and Oceania, this is the best set of shows we have ever seen and the most talented entertainers. We have sat through some real snooze cruise shows over the years and honestly we were so impressed with this team and the shows themselves. Handsome young men and beautiful girls, all well choreographed, talented and produced.I cannot enough. The pool deck chairs, while packed in like sardines, are very comfortable. Very thick chair pads and towel covers. Unlike some competitors, who provide no chair pads. Oh my aching back. Food on board Oceania is said to be the best at sea, and the 4 specialty restaurants of Asian (Red Ginger), Jacques the signature French of Jacques Pepin, the Italian Toscana and the grill Polo Lounge all provide really knockout and authentic meals. High end ingredients used and great chefs that produce truly fine dining experiences. The MDR itself is also very good, and service superb throughout the ship's restaurants. Very attentive and competent waiting staff. Buffet in the Terrace is so dull and boring, although many onboard could not wait to fill their plates and stomachs. Speaking of which, many oversize anatomies on board. Growing worse we have observed over the years. The cabins are very nice. We had any A class cabin, and while the bathroom is small, the size of the cabin and balcony was fine for a ten day cruise of the Caribbean. Anything longer we would have opted for a more spacious P cabin with a walk in closet and more interior space.. Officer staff removed and not very passenger interactive or friendly. Not a good mark for Oceania. Captain made his daily announcements but was a ghost. The ship itself is only 5 or 6 years old and very modern. Very open with lots of public space and bars. Martinis is the place for cocktails. Ship sails well, but the Caribbean seas were calm throughout the ten days. The drinks packages offered were fair priced, and the wines included drinkable if not great. All typical of what passes for wine lists on all cruise lines today. Bottle a la carte prices exorbitant for the product available. Horrendous boarding experience in Miami. Oceania should be ashamed, even though some of it was caused by the unfortunate death of a crew person and ship's late arrival.. But no command presence on the ground to handle the huge backed up crowd waiting to board, and very poor communications. It almost got out of control. Not a bright spot on this cruise, but fortunately it was not a harbinger of bad things to come as many feared. All in all Oceania continues to do a very good job, even under NCL ownership. Many fears have been allayed. The product is the same as it first was for us ten years ago when we first sailed with Oceania, which is very good indeed .And the ships size of 1250 passengers while large for us was not too problematic, except for sea days when the sardine factory on the pool deck was overactive. We were pleasantly surprised by the outstanding cabin! Renovations are outstanding! Service and food the entire cruise was excellent --- no matter where we ate. The eggs benedict was outstanding at the Terrace Cafe! Fresh muffin, Canadian bacon with freshly poached egg and topped with outstanding Hollandaise sauce. Yum! In fact all the selections in the Terrace Cafe were excellent --- spoiled by all the servers who were there to please. My husband fell in love with the extra thick chocolate shake in Waves. Grand Dining room had excellent food and service, but at times could be slow and a bit frustrating. If you needed something "out of the ordinary" it was hard to get the item. Polo and Toscano Specialty restaurants were both excellent! Entertainment was varied and good. The singers were extremely talented and the Frank Sinatra impersonator was outstanding! The Martini Bar piano player and entertainer at one of the big shows was excellent. Martinis were outstanding! The enrichment lectures could have been better --- we expected to hear more about Cuba's history and politics. The presentations were limited and bland -- that was disappointing. Excursions on Cienfuegos were the best; though the one going to Colonial Trinidad in Santiago was very interesting and good. The buffet lunch in one of the local restaurants was delicious. Time was limited in Havana ... would have been good if we'd been able to see a Tropicana Show there and had more shopping time to get cigars & local crafts.. Read Less

2nd cruise on Oceania Riviera, 24th Cruise. First sailing was Amalfi Coast, beautiful but - no sea days to enjoy the ship. We very much enjoyed the ship this time. The ship is the perfect size for us, 1250 PAX with beautiful public spaces decorated with large scale holiday decorations, Lalique glass, Art Deco interesting furnishings, Artwork, and lots of seating areas scattered inside and out. Embarkation was quick at about noon and lunch at Waves and Terrace cafe — no, we didn’t eat at both but they are both great choices. The Terrace has a wonderful assortment of choices and the steak and seafood at the grill were great. The nice sized Balcony cabin has good storage and fine linens, comfortable bed, makeup mirror, lots of outlets, marble bath with deep sinks, small shower with wand and rain head good pressure, and big tub with another shower with wand. Loved the Bulgari toiletries. Our steward was very good, supplies replaced and always lots of ice and needed nothing. Spotless. There was no lack of activities though my favorite was my kindle and feet up on my balcony or on the leather chairs in the library after another cappuccino in Baristas cafe. There was mini golf, needlepoint, bracelet making, art classes (fun but I have no talent), lectures were excellent with Adam Tanner, cha cha classes, movies, and much live music. Others played bridge, trivia and more. The show band was wonderful, production singers and dancers exceptional and string quartet very good. Loved the group Ardor in Horizons and the Ukelele player/comedian better than that sounds. There were many performances in evenings and once in a while in afternoon. Do not miss afternoon tea with strings. Specialties- Polo 5 stars, Jacques 5 Stars, Tuscana husband 4 stars, food a bit of a disappointment for me after great food last time and best of all Red Ginger — I had the best meal ever with edamame, greens with peanut dressing, tempura vegetables and filet entree & bounty cake dessert. Husband had red snapper and loved it. Service was great. Not so happy with Grand Dining room dinner especially beef. But breakfast was wonderful. Also prompt and handy is room service although no hot breakfast in balcony cabins. Kudos to all the service people onboard who had such great attitudes. I can’t say that we loved the ship excursions but In Grenada there was an excursion we liked to a plantation with Gorgeous vegetation, interesting owner and natural products. The ship did not feel crowded except for some scarcity of chairs in the shade — but the pool attendants were removing towels and clearing space. Nice cushions and seating around the pool. And not only are non/Alcoholic drinks included but I can go to the cappuccino machine myself any time and press the button for a quick to go pick me up. I can’t say enough about this sailing— I wish I could repeat it many times over. Read Less

We have just returned from the worst cruise experience ever. The atmosphere on board when the ship docked at Halifax was close to a mutiny. The Captain was being asked to explain why we had endured four days out of ten on the sea instead of one. Why the ship had arrived at Halifax at 22-00 ? My wife had to spend the day in the cabin due to the ship circling for most of the day feeling sick and giddy. Then to add insult to injury a bill was received from the Doctor for $445 for my wife’s treatment for sea sickness---a more appropriate action would have been a note and some flowers to say sorry. It is outrageous to charge a single dime for her treatment caused by the ineptness of the ship . One of your ship staff admitted that out of the last seven scheduled stops at Sydney only once did the ship dock There were many guests calling for an explanation from the Captain and were given the lame excuse that he was asleep. There was not any explanation given for the delayed arrival at Halifax. The General Manager was given an extensive list of cabin numbers so that he could offer an explanation for the delays but he did not have the courtesy to reply. There were free drinks offered to say sorry but these are of no value if you are teetotal Additionally I had requested an anniversary cake and it took three reminders before the “surprise” arrived. The helpful waiter offered to deliver it to our cabin and we are still waiting for its arrival……. I complained about the portion size of the fish at the Toscana restaurant and did not get a proper explanation, only an ansafone message saying that the Restaurant manager will call back. I am still waiting….. The attraction to the cruise was New England in the Fall and the attractive eight places to visit. In the event there were only four Can’t help feeling that the Cruise was for the benefit of Oceania and not its passengers so that passengers could spend more while the ship sailed the Ocean. How wise was it for this voyage to have taken place given the weather conditions in the Atlantic at this time of the year I would like to say that the staff in the dining room and cabins went out of their way to be helpful. We selected this cruise because we liked the ports of call, especially in the beginning of the cruise. We arranged all our excursions privately so I'm not sure how good the ship's excursions were. Many of the named destination cities were long drives (an hour or more) away from the actual ports where we were docked. So the advertising of e.g. Florence and Rome and the Amalfi Coast was a bit of a stretch unless you wanted to drive for several hours. It made the excursions very expensive. The ship staff was diverse, very friendly and helpful. They seemed to like their jobs. They were always deferential to the passengers. The night time entertainment was very good with a female singer( Lala) and band doing rock and contemporary hits, a female string quartet and a male pianist most nights. All were professional level entertainers. One of the scheduled lectures was on the rise of fascism in Italy and it seemed an odd and perhaps depressing choice for vacationers not on a themed historical cruise. It may have been well done, but we did not attend. The specialty restaurants were more formal and service oriented. The food was not much superior to the other offerings onboard the ship which was a disappointment. In one restaurant we were surprised at the end of dinner to be charged hundreds of dollars for wines that we thought were included in our $1520 beverage packages (per couple). We discussed this issue with managers and employees on board over several days and were offered only a token discount. Given the circumstances and "the marketing of the wines to our group" this conduct was extremely disappointing to all eight of us. We have never had this kind of issue on a cruise before and we have been cruising for many years with most of the major lines. One of the circumstances that seemed to be an issue was how many large cruise ships docked in a port the same day. Some ships were three or four times the size of the Riviera and poured thousands and thousands of passengers into cities all at once. Also, the ports can accommodate only so many ships simultaneously for portside docking. More than once we were required to disembark onto a tender and be motored back and forth to the ship, apparently because other cruise ships were docked there first. The tenders are not comfortable and not easy to navigate, even if you are not disabled. They add time to your decision to return to the ship as you wait for it to return to pick you up. In our opinion, the stops at Malta, Messina and even Santorini were somewhat disappointing. The in-port vendors were particularly persistent in Messina and wouldn't take no for an answer. The Hop on Hop off bus vendors in Malta took your fare and then allowed the place to descend into chaos without any intervention because of the huge number of people trying to squeeze onto the infrequent busses. The itinerary would improve by eliminating Messina and Malta and using the extra time in Sorrento and the small towns of the Amalfi Coast. We would not go again because of the issues regarding the ports (travel distances, overcrowding, some selections) and the absolute refusal of the senior staff to reasonably respond to our complaint re the unfair charges. This was our second Oceania cruise. We were on the Nautica cruising the Baltic. We thought food was nothing special. It was good quality, but it lacked any special flavours. It was nowhere as good as we experienced on our previous Oceania cruise. The service was fine but the last few days the service in the Terrace Café fell away significantly. The entertainment was outstanding for relatively small cruise ship. The berths at the ports were varied with some close to the city and others some quite a distance from the city. The excursions were just okay. We found them to be rushed and not very informative. They charged the equivalent of $150 USD for a walking tour that you can pick up at the local tourist office for $10 USD. There was too much free time, wasted time, long toilet breaks and waiting for people who get lost. I am aware that some other cruise lines have two guides, one at the front and one at the rear. Good idea. Wine prices were nothing short of extortion. French village wines which would retail in France for 20 Euro per bottle were about 15 Euro per glass plus 18% gratuities. They would charge 80 Euro for a reasonable quality bottle plus 18%. The enrichment talks were okay but they were fairly shallow for those of us interested in history. There was only limited time spent on the history of cities on our itinerary. Read Less

Getting aboard was painless. Oceanview cabin was small clean and quiet! The food was incredible, the servers were ALL polite and efficient. Could get a reservation at the specialty restaurants anytime. The food in the main dining room was just as good as the specialty restaurants!. Free Pop and water were filled in the fridge everyday. Specialty coffees, smoothies, milkshakes were available all day at no extra charge!! Entertainment was hit and miss....the average age on board was 70 so the shows were geared towards this generation. Went on a few shore excursions sponsored by the ship... they were good but waaaaay overpriced. Would recommend going with private tours that are everywhere as you arrive. Yes this was fairly pricey but you get what you pay for...You can pay up front or be nickel and dimmed to death. One final comment no photography or art sales were EVER mentioned. Would go again in an instant...have been on NCL and princess and this was a big step up. Read Less

I chose this cruise for the itinerary. Not a fan of sea days, but the ports were interesting, as was the panama canal and Havana stop. Embarkation in Honolulu was good and bad. There was no one to help us with our luggage when we got to the port. We were told this isn't the norm. The rest of the embarkation was good getting on the ship, but due to the CDC restrictions, we were unable to get to our cabin until 15 minutes before muster. Also I had to find and take my invoice down to guest services because they gave me a card without showing my drink package, although my cabin mates did have it. I stood in lline for over an hour while my friends were having lunch. Disembarkation was a total nightmare. Baggage tags for those who were to depart by 8:15 through 9:15. I was also told Oceania does not allow you to self depart with a large suitcase. At 7:15 people were lining up with their suitcases to self disembark. By 7:45 I got in line. At about 8:23 they started to allow the line to start disembarking. Those of us who had red and green baggage tags for an 8:15 departure were held up in the warehouse (about 20 of us), we could see our bags sitting there. We were told no one could collect their bags until every single bag was in the warehouse, meaning to wait until at lease 9. At this point they had stopped letting passengers off the ship. Many arguements were going back and forth between some of the passengers who were already in the warehouse and the dockside security. Obviously the Red and Green tags bags were within reach but no one was allowed. At about 8:45, the land side representative stepped away to take a call and the group rush to grab their bags. Many had early flights. I heard from friends still on board that it got ugly on the ship as well. The rain didn't help. While I have over 47 cruise in my history, none on Oceania and I’m a young active 64 year old). After a good two weeks, we started judging the average age of passengers was somewhere between 75-80. Though most everyone were in shape, healthy, happy and enjoying the bars though very few showed up in the dance lounge after the 9:30 nightly show. The choice of food venues was nice and overall excellent food. Deserts to die for. The Terrace buffet usually offered the same as the main dining room, but IMHO the dining room was the better option as the food was fresh, normal portion, although for me, I asked for and received 1/2 portions of most meals. In the terrace you were unable to serve yourself and the server would always just slop on a big portion and typically you just eat more than you should in the buffets. You can also get lobster for lunch and most nights. The Wave serves a surf and turf sandwich. A friend ordered lobster only each day and put it on top of her salad, also from the Waves. She managed to each lobster and/or crab twice a day. The few times I ate lobster I will say the Waves tasted the best. We had four bookings for specialites (Polo and Toscana) but easily went to the Terrace early morning and either go another reservation or wait listed for that night. You can also try showing up at whichever restaurant, but your chances are low. Drinks: We had the basic beverage package (wine with lunch and dinner). There were some decent wines, but my favorites are the ones that I brought on board myself. With the package, the waiters had no problem switching your wine glasses to go so you were able to walk out of the venues with your wine. Drinks are pricey, if not choosing drink of the day. The happy hour 2 for 1 were a big hit with us. The pool drink of the day was different, so make sure you check both. The typically advertised the drink of the day in the Currents (but not the pool drink). Cabin, we had a deluxe oceanview on Deck 4, which was easy access to most things, same level as guest services. I had to walk past the medical service most days and would hold my breathe walking past, lol. It was one busy place. The beds were separated as I was traveling with a friend. It was a pretty small cabin. We did not meet our cabin steward until late Day 2. Since the ship was under a CDC Code Red we were very delayed in getting into our stateroom and when we did we had quite the surprise in the toilet. We also needed maintenance to fix our less than cooling air conditioner. No one responded to us until Day 2 when we met our stateroom attendant and his supervisor. They basically said they were so busy sanitizing the ship they did not have the resources to go back and re-check every cabin. It seems there were a few cabins, where the pipes backed up and feces entered the toilets after the cleaning. Medical: We had about five medavacs or passengers who left the ship during the 24 nights, one which required return to Hawaiian waters so coast guard could airlift the passenger. We had been well on our way crossing the Pacific. This turn-a-round, caused us to skip two ports (we didn't have that many to begin with for a Transpacific), delayed by a day in two ports and shortened our time in those ports. This was a lesson learned for me. I've been on many cruises that had medavas and even an airlift or two, but we were always close enough to land and/or a port not to cause such a change in itinerary. Unlike other cruises I have taken where they return your port charges if skipped, Oceania does not do this. Another turn off to me, was they were not apologetic to those who had private tours booked. They would actually say, we are so sorry to those who have ship excursions and the destination desk is working to reaccomodate you. At least say your sorry to the rest of us. Those who did book ship excursions were learning quickly that although they paid up front via credit card, Oceania was putting their payment as OBC to be used before they got off, and/or charge them 5% if taken out as cash. Another note which many may be aware, one of the ladies whom we did some excursions with fainted of dehydration during the Panama canal transit (it was hot on the upper deck). She was brought to but insisted on going to the medical for IV fluids rather than drink her bottle of water which she wanted to do. $1500 later.... Also two others we spoke to with bronchitis received bills of $6,000 and $9,000. Not sure what that entailed. Two tylenol cost $37 from medical. Go buy them in the shops instead if you forget them. The ship is older, very dark wood. Horizons is the only indoor area (air conditioned or heated) with big glass windows. The other floors with windows for general seating is limited but the windows are small with heavy drapes. I did eat in the MDR each morning and requests an aft table which had a great view. Entertainment: The ship's entertainment was okay, there was one great singer, Crystal, a pretty decent singer Daniel, the Cruise Director Shawn also sang. Amy and Mervin were both sick the second half of the cruise - disappointing. We had a vegas style singer who was entertaining, an electric violin (jazz celtic fiddle), a ventriloquist, a magician, both good. The bad was a harpist and another female vegas style who I did not enjoy whatsoever. After the 9:30 show, the Regatta band would play in Horizons but most nights there were just a handful of us who showed up. There were two men who did the very informative lectures. The cruise director staff had a gaggle of games, shuffleboard, bingo, trivia, toss games, needlepoints, majong, and of course bridge. I almost forgot line dancing, my favorite. They give out O points which you redeem the day before you disembark for a range of items such a clothing, hats, luggage tags and travel accessories. Service: Once we were over the CDC restrictions, the staff was extremely helpful and went out of the way to please you. I can not say the same about the guest services or destination staff - they were of little help whatsoever. I wouldn't do another Transpacific again knowing the pitfalls to potential medavacs when so far out to sea. I have been on other ships where we have had airlifts and/or medavacs, but barely a blip in the itinerary. I've read that Oceania does drop ports very easily which was also the case with my itinerary. I'd like to give her another chance, but the communication was so bad and they just didn't seem to care to compensate whatsoever that we certainly didn't get the cruise we paid for. Read Less

We have been on many Oceania cruises and loved them all. We selected this 33 day cruise that started in Buenos Aires and ended in Miami, primarily because my husband wanted to experience the Amazon. The ship is almost exactly like the other three smaller Oceania ships and the staff were really attentive and friendly. I didn't feel that way with the Officers. When I completed my mid-cruise feedback form, I really expected to hear from someone as I was pretty specific with my concerns. Never heard. My major issue with the ship...is really an Corporate/Operations Issue. They specially wrote in the cruise itinerary literature, and reconfirmed it when I called, that the itinerary would not stop in an endemic area that is experiencing Yellow Fever now. WRONG!!! According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) bulletins, we were visiting two ports that are considered Ground Zero for the recent rash of Yellow Fever in Brazil. Needless to say, based on their information, we chose not to take the vaccination and were pretty stressed when we were in these areas. The cruise itself. Although there were some interesting ports scattered through the itinerary, most of the port calls were boring with nothing to offer. Several resulted in a very quick turnaround back to the ship as there was nothing to see or do. And safety was an issue too. Brazil is not a place where you hail a cab. And police were telling folks not to walk here and there. There were WAY too many sea days, some scheduled, others because the ship couldn't anchor due to weather. Our 33 day cruise ended with almost 10 sea days. And Sirena does not offer any extra activities for those days. At one point we had 5 sea days in a row and everyone on board was ready to scream. Although we enjoy a quiet ship, there should be some exciting activities when having such a long stretch. Oceania food is noteworthy. Its one of the reasons we enjoy Oceania. But I have to say that although we have traveled on Nautica and Insigna many times, we didn't feel that the Sirena reached the same bar with food. It was good, usually, but not great. Even the two specialty restaurants were just ok. An example of lack of attention to detail is the coffee bar near the grand dining room. Great afternoon coffee, but the few snacks that are available there didn't change during the 33 days we were on the cruise. Yes, we could have gone to the afternoon tea and indulged in all of those treats, but we intentionally do not. But a good tasting cookie with the coffee was not to be had. Others who did indulge also offered the same tasteless comments. The Amazon. I guess our expectations were considerably different from the reality of our 1,000 mile cruise into and out of the Amazon. We were expecting a fairly narrow river with rainforest on either size...and monkeys and other observable wildlife with the aid of binoculars. The reality was that the river was sometimes 100 miles wide and never narrow enough so that you felt like you were in a jungle atmosphere. That required private excursions. The tiny villages we anticipated were good sized cities of up to 300,000 residents. Had we traveled the Amazon from the Pacific side (Ecuador or Peru), rather than the Atlantic, I think our expectations would have been realized. In summary, this is not an itinerary I will recommend to anyone! There are too many other fascinating places to see and enjoy to waste most of your time visiting insignificant ports with nothing to offer. I am writing this to help other new cruisers on Oceania. We had many questions before we left...some that we were uncertain of...and I hope this helps. Our cruise was the Mayan Mystique...10 days...MIA to MIA. The ship is in wonderful shape! Very clean...beautiful artwork throughout. This ship is undoubtedly for luxury and food. Here are a few bulleted thoughts: ~The pool is very quiet. Too quiet for me. But relaxing. The lounge chairs have fitted sheet over cushioned chairs. There are "beds" as well. We never had a problem finding a seat in the sun or shade. The pool is not large but large enough. There are 2 hot tubs. ~The food is incredible. I did not have one item that was not excellent. This is the highlight of the ship. I gained a lot of weight. :( ~The drinks are not strong, but if you take advantage of happy hour there are worth it. But, at happy hour (2 for 1) the drink must be the same drink. ~Speaking of alcohol, even though their policy states otherwise, they do not care how much you bring on and you CAN bring it on at each port. Beer, wine ,hard liquor...doesn't matter. They do not care. ~The service is impeccable. Everyone was very nice and very accommodating. Extra friendly. It bothered me that so many people never said please and thank you. If you go on this ship, be polite! These people work their tails off. ~I've read many reviews about sickness on the boat. I did not see one sick person, other than the one that passed away, and never felt sick. They go over and beyond to make sure this does not happen. You never handle your own food until it is on your plate, no ice machines, etc. ~The entertainment was top notch. The "World Beat" show was one of the best I've ever seen. ~Many debates about tipping on top of what they add. I did not see a single person tip on this ship. Doesn't mean you can't, but for those wondering...that's that. ~The median age on this ship is about 65. There are many scooters, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. You will not be moving fast around the ship. My last comment is this: this experience for my wife and I was wonderful. We had a fantastic time! The people are great, everything is very organized, the food is top notch, and I could go on and on. If you did not have a good time on this ship, this truly is a "you" problem. We booked this cruise primarily because of the Cuba stops and we are very happy we did. We knew what we were getting as far as the cabin size since we had previously sailed on it's sister ship "Journey" (Azamara cruises). This was our first Oceania cruise. For those who prefer to do their own laundry, there are laundry rooms on certain decks however if you take advantage of the ships' laundry services be prepared to wait a full (6pm on day 3) three days to get it back. Food was very good in all venues. Perhaps the only area lacking was the entertainment both in quality and in times offered. Service was good but outstanding with our butler and suite attendant. We did not book any shore excursions with Oceania however what we heard from those who did was that most were satisfied especially if they had an English speaking guide. We opted to do our own thing. In Havana we hired a taxi driver who was very good....unless you speak the language be sure that you hire one who speaks more than 'a little bit' English. We paid $70 US for 2 hours (you can negotiate). In the next port Cienfuegos, Cuba we hired a taxi again $40 US for 2 hours and just ' a little bit' English worked out to be beach, horse, store (lesson learned). When we headed back to the ship we noticed an open air train which was doing a city tour for $5 US/person (located right off the ship). Santiago, Cuba was our last Cuban stop and perhaps our most adventurous...we hired a bicycle guide ($5/hr. for 2 hours). He narrated everything ..local.monuments, Russian, Italian, Venezuelan, Chinese contributions and even where one can purchase black market rum and cigars. San Antonio, Jamaica was our walk around town tour....very rainy but nice, small port. Nassau as usual, very crowded (4 other ships in port) and very expensive. Glad we took this cruise...one of our favorite cruises and ports. The best thing about a small ship such as the Insignia is the ability to port at small ports which are usually not crowded. Read Less

The Mighty Amazon River has long been on our bucket list, & the newly refurbished Sirena's 34-day sailing from Miami to Buenos Aires sounded like the way to go!! The first week at sea was uneventful & unexciting, as we bypassed devastated Puerto Rico, & visited St Kitts, Antigua, & Barbados! We enjoyed the day we spent exploring the ruins of Devil's Island, the former penal colony off the coast of French Guyana. Unfortunately, we were totally taken by surprise as it was announced that almost all purchases aboard ship for the next 3.5 weeks (as we sailed thru Brazilian waters) would be subject to an extra 25% tax. (We solved this problem quite simply, by halting all unnecessary shipboard spending!!) Almost everything was included in our ticket price: air, gratuities, 7 shore excursions per person, internet package. There were no art auctions & no pushy shipboard photogs to contend with. We were not nickled and dimed over soft drinks, specialty coffee, & bottled water. Since the Sirena drew only 20 feet of water, We were able to travel 900 miles upriver to Manaus in the heart of the triple canopy Amazon rainforest. While the destination speakers for the Amazon region were well chosen, the Oceania home office staff of millennials let us down when it came to providing suitable movies that might have dovetailed with our journey!! As we entered the River Platte, it would have presented a great opportunity to view "The Battle of the River Platte". It would have also been timely to have watched "Evita" again, as we neared Argentina. Instead we were subjected to current, inane films, such as one depicting Breaking Bad actor Cranston hiding out in his garage for several months!!! We manged to dine in Sirena's Specialty restaurants on numerous occasions - especially in their magnificent Red Ginger Asian Fusion spot. Afternoons the main dining room was converted into Jacques - a specialty French Bistro - with mixed results. The Waves grill by the pool closed way too early @4PM. Read Less

Liked the fact that some of the bars had happy hours, and bartenders where quite friendly. As I said, the food was excellent. Everything I ordered was fantastic and I think they would have made anything I wanted. I went to two art classes and really appreciated the Artist in Residence, Bill Sloan. He made everyone feel like an artist and I know I am not. Very easy to understand and personable. Hate to say I never even made it to the gym, and I am a walker and gym attendee. We did so much walking on the excursions that was my exercise. Ports where great, enjoyed every one of them. Read Less

We chose Oceania based on the ports for this cruise. We wanted to see the Baltics, and we were well rewarded! The stops included Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia; plus Helsinki, Finland; and St. Petersburg, Russia. Oceania is a classy experience, where the passengers are treated very well by the crew and the chefs especially. The best parts of the ship were the special restaurants, like Jacque's (Jacque Pepin), the interior decor (spectacular), well-designed staterooms, and the smooth organization of getting folks on and off in port. To compare to our experience earlier this year with Viking Ocean Cruises, I have to say that Viking had better food, much better pastry (you can see where my priorities are), better coffee (also important), and a better arrangement for getting a glass of wine. Oceania, overall, seemed rather costly. You get what you pay for, but some of the costs were a little much (like $28/day for internet; $10,000 for two people; just two examples). I did learn, at the end, that some of our fellow passengers lined up tours separately, with companies ashore. That seemed to work out: better treatment, tailored to their interests; more comfortable; and more for the money. I'll try that next time. Read Less

I love Alaska, this was my second cruise through Alaska. Chose Oceana for food reviews. Didn’t disappoint. Excellent in dining rooms and buffets. They took great care to serve you at buffet so as not to contaminate service ware. They have organic food which is important to my digestive system. Shows were good. Tours were fair, we enjoyed hiking the rain forest, kayaking in the rain, loved it all. I’m physically challenged, none of the tours were difficult and we chose the most athletic ones. Never needed my cane. Until the next day. LOL. Wish we had toured the college fiords. Room service was amazing. Surf n turf burgers were my favorite by the pool. Alaska never disappoints. Love the ship size, great ages. Few children. Cabins are small but adequate for two. Traveling with best friend, her first cruise. Will definitely go on Oceana again. Tried to book Nov Tahiti, ended up on Seabourne October. Excellent gluten free choices, daily homemade ice creams. You won’t be disappointed. Read Less

We just concluded Oceania's cruise from Venice to Athens on the "Riviera". Among over 1,000 passengers were only 5-6 young ones; the rest were senior citizens in their '70s. There were no poolside (or anywhere else) activities, nothing happening after dinner other than listening to old folks talking about the menu or their retirement. Awfully dull. The menu at the ship's restaurants was fine if eating is a passenger's sole reason for going on a cruise. The captain's (Captain Flokos) judgment was poor; upon arrival in Mykonos where the winds were strong in the morning (a very common occurrence in Mykonos), he simply elected to skip that port altogether and, instead, forced all passengers to 24 hours of ship confinement running around the sea/ Instead, he could have: a) Waited for the wind to die down (the local summer wind, called meltemi always dies down in the evening) and let the passengers out for a pleasant evening in Mykonos), or b) Gone to another nearby port (Athens was only three hours away,. and so were mahy other Greek islands), or c) Proceeded to the next scheduled stop in Santorinini for an extra day there. d) Have made arrangements ahead of time for the ship to have landed on the pier for direct access to the island without needing boats to transport passengers between the ship and land. "Excursions" at each of the ports visited were ill-conceived because passengers were required to be back on the ship by 3-4 pm, even though the next port of call was, in most cases, only 2-3 hours away and could be easily reached during the night. There was no good reason to force passengers to leave each Greek island visited at 3pm. Instead, passengers could have had the pleasure of spending much more time to each port of call (Santorini, Dubrovnik, etc.). Oceania company deserves all the blame for such poor planning. The ship's customer service staff were uniformly aloof and rude and self-righteous, as if they were doing passengers a favor by addressing passengers' concerns. They forgot that, in the final analysis, it was the passengers who paid their salaries. Read Less

My two Sisters and their Spouses and my Brother and his Spouse and my Wife and I went on the Regal Routes Cruise on the Oceania Marina for 10 days beginning June 2nd. This was our first Cruise with Oceania. We have traveled with Norwegian, Princess and Royal Caribbean in the past. Our embarkation went smoothly. The Cruise was darn near perfect. My Wife and I had room 7008, it had an extra large balcony that was great and my Sisters had almost identical rooms in 7006 and 7004. The Bathroom was amazing. You had your choice of a shower or a shower in a bathtub. Storage was fine. The weather was pretty good, it could have been warmer, but, we really only had 1 day for a couple of hours where we had to use our umbrellas in Kristiansand, Norway. The ship was great in great condition. We couldn't complain about a thing. Many people in past reviews complained about the entertainment. We went every night and it was very good every night. The comedian, Chas Burnett was great ! I saw him the next night and told him how funny he was without having to use profanity. He seemed very appreciative. The singers and dancers were very good as was the magician. The Cruise Director, Nolan Dean was a little quieter than most C.D.s, but, he put on a show one night with his assistant(his Girlfriend). It was kind of like a Sonny and Cher show, it was great. Their singing was very good and their comedic skills were just as good. We were pleasantly surprised. We had 5 dinners in the specialty restaurants out of 10 days. We ate 1 night at the Buffet. The large prawns and lobsters were perfect in the Buffet. I really couldn't complain about any of our dinners. Everybody that waited on us were amazing, but, then again we treat people the way we want to be treated, so, maybe, if you treat people with respect, you get treated better. We had a great time at all the ports and we appreciated that if the port wasn't right in town, Oceania supplied a shuttle free of charge. Our air was included from Oceania and though we were a little worried on the connection in Amsterdam flying over on KLM everything worked perfect. Our flight home was, also, fine. The one excursion we took from Oceania to the Breendonk SS Transit Camp in Antwerp was very good. So, it was a great Cruise with 2 little things that weren't perfect. We had Free Internet, but, if I had had to pay for it, I would have been living at Front Desk ! The poor Computer Guy can't be paid enough for all the people complaining to him. I couldn't use their computers, they wouldn't work. He told me to try my tablet in my room for better reception. It worked a little after 11 o'clock at night ! We didn't use it much, but, if we had and were paying for it I would have been upset. The other thing and it wasn't Oceania'a fault really. Because of windy conditions, we couldn't get into Amsterdam. My Sisters and my Brother had never been there, so, it was very disappointing for them. We had plans to take the train and go to the Hague and Rotterdam, so we were disappointed, too. Was the weather really that bad ? We got an extra day in Hamburg instead. Should Oceania have offered us something ? A bottle of wine or something ? It wouldn't have hurt. But, one other AMAZING thing for Oceania ! Our last port before debarking in Copenhagen was Gothenburg, Sweden. My Sister and her husband missed the last shuttle at 4 and couldn't find their way back, no one spoke English or knew where the ship was docked. They spent over $100 on cabs. Oceania called me at 5:20 and said they had to leave at 6. After a scary half hour they were able to locate the Cab company and give them directions to the port. The Port was at least a half hour away from downtown. Fortunately and gratefully they waited 5 minutes for my Sister to get back. Thank you very much Oceania. My Sister missing the ship would have definitely ruined the Cruise, no fault of Oceania. Our disembarkation was flawless except our shuttle never showed up, but, had no problem catching a bus to the airport. We will definitely travel with Oceania again. Read Less

My wife and I took the 10 night South Pacific Cruise from Papeete to Papeete. The embarkation process was a breeze, with smiling and helpful crew members guiding us all the way. We had to kill time in the buffet restaurant till our Penthouse Suite (see review below) was ready, but the wait wasn't too long. Our butler was professional and helpful. The food and service in the main dining hall were excellent. The waiters were very friendly and open to suggestions about future menus. The dining hall transformed into Jacques Bistro for lunch, with a different and innovative menu every day. The desserts and the escargot were especially yummy. The buffet restaurant had a wide selection for breakfast, but we could hardly experience it, because of the inexplicable opening times of 7.00 am and even 7.30 am. (Most cruise lines start breakfast service at 6.00 am or 6.30 am). Considering that we had to report for most shore excursions by 7.45 or 8.00 am, the late breakfast timings made no sense at all. We were forced to eat limited choice room service breakfast on our tiny and uncomfortable dining table. The speciality restaurants, Tuscan Steak and Red Ginger were outstanding. The nightly entertainment was way below par, considering Oceania advertises itself as a luxury cruise line. There was an average Australian singing duo and a so so comedian who were repeated almost every alternate night. The only one good show was about the golden oldies. Also there was only one set at 9:30 pm. Considering that half the passengers finished dinner by 8.00 pm, this entailed an unnecessary and boring wait. Deeply disappointing. The off-road shore excursions were good but not always well organized. On one excursion in a 8 passenger jeep, we were put in with six fellow travelers who spoke only French. Overall, the cruise was like the proverbial curates egg: good in parts, but did not live up to the luxury tag. Read Less

Suite was excellent. Would like to have seen 2 sinks in bathroom. Shower tough for me to use but I'm 6'5". Very well furnished. Bed very comfortable. Walk in closet well done. Entertainment was very good. Enjoyed in house dancers and singers. Thought band was excellent. Comedian very funny. Enjoyed Cruise director and staff. We do not use ships port and shore excursion. Do them on our own through Cruise Critic roll call. Very overpriced and do not enjoy being bused with 20 to 40 people. Not a ship that caters to children. Atlantic was rough most of the trip. Had to avoid Azores because of weather. Went to Madeira instead. Excellent cruise, Excellent ship. Excellent service. Would certainly sail with Oceania again. Read Less
