We chose this cruise for our wedding, which will be posted on another thread, because we are both retired Navy and have friends all over. Royal was outstanding and the Oasis is a beautiful ship with a fantastic crew. I would go back and do it all over again, except for a couple of the shore excursions, but they will also have reviews!
We drove down to Port Canaveral for the cruise, and used Lots of Honor for our off-site parking. They were great - inexpensive, with shuttle service to and from the port! The operation is owned by veterans and gives a portion of every dollar earned to veterans' charities!
Embarkation was easy, and walking on to the Royal Promenade was amazing! We went straight to the Park Café for a quiet lunch of roast beef sandwiches, which were wonderful. The all clear had been given just before we got on board, so after our lunch, we headed to our staterooms.
Our stateroom was a JS on Deck 14, port side, right at the start of the hump! The room was fantastic, with plenty of space and we had all of our group of 17 inside that afternoon, with no problems. Sal was our room steward, and he was a gem! He delivered things to our other guests, regardless of what room they were in, and he provided anything we asked for without any hesitation or delay.
For Sailaway, we all went to the fantail (that's the back for all you non-Navy types) and deployed a banner for the PTZTv guys, since we had so many who could not join us for this very special cruise! Shout out to PTZTv for the coverage they gave us!!!
There was so much to do on Oasis that we had to book another cruise on Allure just to see and do everything! There was literally something for everyone all day long!
Eleven of us ate together in the MDR Grande each night for the late seating at 8 PM. Gercon and Jasuli were our head waiter and assistant waiter respectively, and they did an outstanding job. Two nights, we had two more from our group join us, and they rolled with it with no issues! Although the food was very good, I am proud to say that I won the weight gain contest, with a weight gain of only 3.2 pounds!!! That's awesome, since I am a foodie!
We had a couple's dinner at Chops, which was included in our wedding package, and the filet was absolutely to die for! It literally melted in our mouths! We had dinner in Giovanni's one night, which was very good, although I prefer southern Italian cooking. But, the food was quite good, and quite representative overall of what one would find in Tuscany and northern Italy.
The only show we went to was the Adult Comedy Show because I got mixed up on our time for Oasis of Dreams... definitely plan to catch this one in the future! The comedy show was plenty of laughter, and of course, we got picked on for getting married the next day, but it was all in good fun, and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
I did an Ionithermie cellulite wrap package in the spa, but knew that it was only because it was my wedding. I didn't buy anything from them, since I had done my research prior to going. It was actually very relaxing, even though the spa is located under the helipad.
At Labadee, we rented two beach bungalows at Columbus Cove, and that was a great place for people to make a home base and meet up! Mickey was our attendant, and he was wonderful! We also did the zipline and coaster. Both were awesome!
In Jamaica, my mom and I did the Great House Tour with lunch, and my husband and Dad did the Bob Marley Experience. Our tour was great, but left little time for her to explore the potter's studio afterwards, which she would have loved to do more of. The Bob Marley Experience was not quite what my husband and dad expected. My dad is a musician, and my husband is a cop, so you can guess... They were a bit taken aback by the fact that the tour seemed to be more about smoking weed than Bob Marley and his music, so that was kind of a let down.
We went on a scuba excursion in Cozumel, and I could write a book about it. I would absolutely NOT recommend this to anyone, and I filed a complaint with the Excursion desk and the Dive Shop on board. The company was Sand Dollar Sports, and the diving was extremely unsafe! The equipment was old and not in the best shape (bad O-rings, leaky tank valves, etc), they allowed a person who was still drunk to dive, and the deckhand, Miguel, pushed me off the swim platform, causing my tank to hit the platform and the valve to smack me in the back of the head! Fortunately, I have a hard head, but this could have been fatal.
I never really felt crowded on Lady O. It was a little overwhelming getting on board and entering the Royal Promenade, just the sheer size of it! But, other than feeding time in the Windjammer, there was never a large crowd anywhere!
A word of advice... Don't wait until the last day to buy things that you want from the shops on board. You may run out of time like I did, and come home with less than what you had planned on! Read Less
