I always said I would never do a cruise of any sort but my husband sails so for his birthday I surprised him with the Romantic Danube cruise. Our cabin was perfect for the week . It was the cheapest one as I thought why spend a fortune on a cabin when all we would be doing was sleeping and washing in it . The bed was fantastic lovely sheets shower super clean with great products and towels. Adequate wardrobe space .We had a view every day through our window . Food was fantastic, staff exceptional, very professional . We chose the SILVER SERVICE. Take my advise a must . It will save you a fortune!! Tours excellent. The Jewish tour in Passau and Budapest were exceptional.Views from the boat superb. The entertainment something I thought I would hate was fantastic . So would I recommend this cruise you bet I would a hundred times over . Read Less

We had never done a river cruise before and were not dissatisfied with our choice. People are all friendly and helpful. Went to many beautiful places and enjoyed every minute on and off the boat. I would definitely encourage anyone thinking of a river cruise to think of Viking as their choice as they go above and beyond to please you. We planned most of the excursions before we departed for our cruise. However, we did manage to do a few side excursions as you meet people at restaurants and public places that often times can recommend people that do this part time and you will get a personized tour. We did a few in variuos cities and were very glad as we saw some things that only the locals really know about. The food is fantastic almost everywhere we went. Be brave and try some of the local fare. The beer is the greatest you can get. They seem to have so many local breweries that you can't ever get bad beer. Good Luck! Read Less

For our first river cruise we chose the Romantic Danube from Nuremberg to Budapest. Our vessel was the Egil and it was the first cruise of the season for the crew. You would not have know in as the ship was so well run. The crew from top to bottom was excellent and took care of all our needs. The were so warm and friendly. The evening presentations were full of humor. Dining was very good with choices for everyone. We enjoyed meeting new people while we dined. There was a small issue we were warned about just prior to the cruise. The lock in Nuremberg was closed for repairs so our ship was docked in Regensburg and we were bused back and forth to Nuremberg the first and second day of our cruise. It was not a huge inconvenience. The included excursions were very good as were the optional ones. The prices for cocktails were very reasonable. We have a veranda cabin with a balcony. It was set up very well. All spaces were used to maximize storage. The shower had great water pressure. Daily we had a large glass bottle of water which was refilled daily to drink. The bed was comfortable and the a/c and heat worked well. There were outlets for charging phones. The cost for laundering clothes was not too expensive. We will do another river cruise again. We are very dissatisfied with the overall ‘cruise’ experience and the compensation offered by Viking to make up for the changes in our anticipated vacation - a 7 day CRUISE on the Romantic Danube River. Our group of three couples was aware of the low water situation a week prior to the scheduled sailing. We contacted Customer Relations on the Monday, August 13th requesting an opportunity to cancel our trip and plan our own itinerary since we were all committed to non-refundable airfare. Customer Relations refused to allow us a full refund prior to the trip and requested that we travel to Europe, embark the ship, and then file a complaint within 24 hours if we were still dissatisfied. We were officially notified by Viking Tuesday, August 14th at 6:16 p.m. that water levels were low and that the itinerary had been changed. We again reached out to viking and left a voice message that we were interested a refund and scheduling our own trip. We did not hear back from her before it was time for us to travel. We flew to Europe and took the train to Nuremberg. Fortunately we took an early train or we would have missed the bus to the ship. We quickly realized how disorganized, stressful and disappointing the trip was going to be. The refreshments at the Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nürnberg were second-rate and were depleted when we arrived. We received mixed instructions from the Viking representatives on hand, an apparent foreshadowing of the days ahead of us. The bus left earlier than we were earlier told, we had no time to explore Nürnberg. After a 2 hour bus ride, with no comfort stop, we arrived in Passau and embarked the Egil on August 18, 2018. Upon arrival we discovered our cabin’s view was blocked by another ship. We did however have a great view of the other ship’s guests dirty socks drying on their deck chair. Eventually the ship moved and we had a view, sadly our friends who were on the other side of the ship now had a blocked view. The night of the 18th the on board crew relayed to us the itinerary changes for the next day. They said they were unable to tell us about the rest of the cruise days because conditions downstream were volatile and changing. We were told that the excursions the next day would be leaving at 8:00 a.m. by motor coach. Unlike most of our fellow passengers we are not retirees. We are employed individuals who came on vacation to relax and get away from the stresses of our busy work lives. We anticipated relaxing evenings on board, cocktails in hand, long restful nights of sleep, awakening leisurely in port before excursions in the adjacent port. Getting up at 6:30 a.m. was not any of our ideas of a good time. None of us wanted to get on a bus first thing in the morning. We therefore skipped the excursions on the 19th and filed an official complaint, as your brochures instruct passengers to do, within the first 24 hours of embarking. Hotel Manager Davis Thomas relayed our complaint to Customer Relations via email that day. On Sunday, August 19th, Mr. Thomas relayed to us that because the water levels were out of the control of Viking Cruises, no refund of our expenses would be given. We were very disappointed and frustrated with the lack of refund or financial compensation offered. Viking’s offer of 25 percent off a future cruise was completely a slap in the face. We wanted to get off of the boat, not think about planning a return cruise! We wanted to get off and derive our own itinerary. We are very capable of doing so and it would have allowed us to have the relaxing, stress-free vacation we anticipated. While we realize that the water levels are out of control of Viking, what was in Viking's control was the forthcoming communication of information and/or the opportunity to offer financial compensation that would have helped to make us feel less trapped and less taken advantage of. It was very difficult to have our itinerary communicated to us piecemeal by the crew and we feel strongly that this was done intentionally. When we arrived in Budapest we saw a Viking ship that we were told had been stuck there for a month! So, Viking was aware of the water conditions downstream and was not forthcoming with that information. Our trip was not relaxing. We spent many hours on motor coaches. We spent only 1½ days cruising. We were deprived of hours of relaxation on board that we had looked forward to for over a year. We came home stressed, frustrated and feeling that we had been taken advantage of by Viking Cruises. Our outreach to Viking has been just as stressful as the trip. They first offered 25% off a future cruise, then 50% off a future cruise, and then finally $500 with the condition that we sign a non-disclosure statement. Obviously, those offers have been declined in favor of informing as many people as we can so that others will make more informed decisions regarding who they cruise with. Where to begin?!?! It was disappointing from beginning to end. We actually "river cruised" 1 1/2 days versus the 7 days we were expecting. We were bussed around, lied to, stuck in an industrial "port" for three days, had our excursions cancelled (and only told "Viking is not offering these excursions at this time") A refund for the excursions that we paid for still has not been received after almost SIX months! I know there is a lawsuit from one of the travelers on our ship. We sent a letter to the head of customer relations, but guess what: we didn't get any response. They do NOT take care of their customers and blame everything on low water levels that they can't control.....which has been going on a LONG time. This is their business! They need to understand what customers expect and treat them fairly!! I can't recommend this company. Do your homework and read reviews carefully! Read Less

This was an anniversary gift to ourselves. Clearly a gorgeous part of the world and to see it from the river was very special. The cruise itinerary had been changed because of low river water and we wondered if the changes would make us regret our fortunes but alas, Viking's extended effort to make us happy worked and we had no complaints. I commend their staff and crew for their dedication and diligence. Our cruise director Oliver deserves special mention for his professionalism and unflappable demeanor the entire cruise. The cook and his team deserved applause too for never failing to delight us with fabulous food treats in the restaurant and aquavit terrace. Our cabin service was excellent. We always had clean bottled water delivered to our room to drink. They must have straightened our room several times a day because it was always magically neat and clean whenever we returned. I loved the ports we visited and the shore trips were well organized. It felt good to feel pampered for a week. Good job Viking. Read Less

We had been considering a river cruise with a group of close friends for several years. Other friends had already taken a Viking river cruise and had nothing but praise for the experience. So on May 26 a group of 12 of us sailed on the Viking Egil for a Romantic Danube cruise. The staff onboard was terrific, particularly our Program Director Oliver Grozner, and our waitresses Julie and Jesse. The food was excellent and the service very attentive. Most of us purchased the Silver Spirits package and the selection of wines and cocktails was outstanding. The excursions were very interesting and educational and I felt that the guides were all very knowledgeable. The sole exception would be Szentendre (outside of Budapest) which we felt to be a tourist trap We extended our cruise on both ends with 3 extra days in Prague and 2 in Budapest, both beautiful old cities with many great sites to visit. Our hotel in Prague was the Art Nouveau Palace and was very nice. The hotel in Budapest was the Hilton Budapest City, not quite up to par. The ice machine on our floor was broken and there was no safe in our room. Returned home exhausted but extremely happy with our experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the destinations on the Danube River. We started in Nuremberg, went to Krems, Vienna, and finished in Budapest. Viking does an excellent job with the on-board services. We thought the staff through all the stations was excellent (Front Desk, Waitress, Restaurant Servers, and particularly the Program Cruise Director). Be sure to sign up for the Silver Server package (allows you to have all types of on-board wine, beer, coffee, and liquor). The evenings were wonderful - - after dinner we went to the lounge where Viking put on some brief entertainment (about 30 minutes), and then the piano musician (and a few additional instruments) played any requests. The evening winds down about 11 to 11:30 PM, so there is no disco going all night long. This is not a young adult cruise - - it is targeted for people aged 50 to 75, who are physically in good condition to take part in the excursions & sight-seeing in each town. The only 'children' on the cruise were a few college students, who were with their parents. Read Less

From the moment we were met at the airport by a Viking Cruise representative to the time we departed the cruise, the staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable! The ship was very clean, our room was well laid out. also very clean and comfortable. We have upscale cuisine for all three meals with exemplary service. The events planned for each port were well organized and planned for all activity levels. The local tour guides were knowledgeable and the walk and/or roadway excursions were very informative and entertaining. When the weather was a bit inclement, we were greeted and offered hot tea upon our return to the ship by the staff. Local entertainers added so much to the ambiance of our dining and evening experiences. I've not had such an intimate, comfortable and entertaining cruise like this one! I really wish to give 10 stars out of 5 - I would definitely recommend Viking Cruise to anyone who is considering sailing. The cruise ship sails so smoothly that you can't even realize that it is sailing. Food was served fast during lunch and dinner and you get to experience local food which I thought awesome. All the excursions were very organized and done in a professional manner. Every crew members are very open to helping you throughout the trip. If I were to sail again, I would definitely go with Viking. Much thanks to Carl and Timhomir who helped us in every way on Viking Egil from Nov 18-25. The trip was flawless because of you. Thank you. We ,brother and sisters decided to spend Thanksgiving together something we had not done since we were children. We loved the beautiful sites, Nuremberg, Vienna ,Budapest, and shopping the Christmas Markets. The special touches provided by the staff were appreciated. Each morning the ship staff would greet us , handed us each a bottle of water and an umbrella if needed as we departed for the day's included excursions. When we returned, a ship staff person would welcome us back and serve us a treat which was representative of the area. The lectures were interesting and the entertainment was enjoyable. We had a great American Thanksgiving dinner. All the food, breakfast, lunch and dinner, was delicious. Cookies , coffee and hot tea was available all day long .All the service staff were attentive and friendly. Since the ship was small , we felt we were traveling with friends. We look forward to cruising on another Viking cruise. Read Less

Loved the itinerary and especially wanted to return to Budapest having been there 30 years ago when it was still Communist. I also am of Hungarian heritage. Also, the rest of the itinerary appealed to me and I wanted to cruise the Danube. This was my third river cruise on Viking and they never disappoint. I am now planning a Viking ocean cruise. As you can see, I’m committed! The Egil was beautiful, the staff amazing, the food wonderful, and the tours very, very good. I’ve done the Paris to Normandy cruise, Amsterdam to Basal, and this Nuremberg to Budapest. I can’t pick my favorite since each one was incredibly good. I have told many people about my trips and extolled Viking’s praises. In fact, to date, I have nothing negative to say about any of my experiences. I would very highly recommend Viking cruises to anyone at any time. thank you. Read Less

Sailing with Viking is living in a 5 star hotel with a 5 star restaurant every single day. The rooms have been cleverly arranged to make the best use of space. The meals are local to the area, and there is something for everyone. I love several things about Viking that cannot be gotten elsewhere without paying an exorbitant price. They are: free WIFI, free excursions in every port, and free wine, beer, or soda with lunch and dinner. I felt so relaxed to not have to count my money with my drinks, I also have family that I need to be in touch with due to health concerns. Daily contact through WIFI was such a relief. When I travel, I prefer to take advantage of the local area. The fact that this is already coordinated and included gives me a very satisfied feeling for my trip. I love all of the excursions I have been on! Laundry service is also excellent. Another guest spilled a full glass of red wine all over my very light colored pants. Our housekeeper was able to remove it all!! Some things I did not like as well as the last time I sailed with Viking from Paris to Normandy. They are: the chef was not as talented on this trip compared to the French trip. The food quality was not as good Also, our waiter was not as attentive as others on this trip and my French trip, disappearing during our meals and not filling our wine and water glasses when needed. We did not even see him in the room. Both of those situations were unfortunate. We were with a large group and had lots of fun. We joined with many others on board and had fun after hours in the lounge. Overall, Viking is my favorite sailing line. It is head and shoulders above all the rest. Read Less

We have been thorough Europe, but never had the opportunity to experience an ambling cruise from Prague to Budapest. Looking and the brochures, this cruise looked like a wonderful opportunity to travel uninterrupted with a 5 star line. WE WEREN'T DISAPPOINTMENT! From the moment Viking met us at the Prague airport till the moment we were personally escorted to the security line at the Budapest airport, we were immersed in Viking's special treatment of their guests. Small ship (less than 195 travelers) made it idyllic to get to know your companions and yet not feel crowded nor rushed. Staff was so friendly and went out of their way to accommodate your requests. Food was spectacular, and so were the wines served from the regions we were cruising in. The Egil was fairly new, and the cabins were comfortable and spacious. Our friends told us a year ago that they were going on a river boat cruise. After a 30 second discussion we decided to join them. It was the best vacation that we have been on. From Prague to Budapest the Viking family went out of their way to make our trip the best ever. The crew treated us with kindness, respect and great humor. Yanna and Ales in Prague went out of their way to help us with some difficulties there. Our room was always outstanding thanks to Ria and Vinnie. Thanks to chef Rene' the food was always great especially the fourth of July cake! Boril, Florin, Mr. Wong, and Natasha made our dining experience the best. Oliver and Sandar (also known as Shannon and Shorty) have a great sense of humor and worked hard to make our tours and entertainment entertaining and fun. The rest of the crew whose names evade us, except Ricardo, worked hard helping us make the transitions to tours and hotels easy. For those going on a trip like this a word of caution. Be careful to not wind up like me with a broken ankle six hours after arriving in Prague so you don't have to work the Viking folks so hard! We couldn't have enjoyed the trip quite so much if these outstanding people had not been so willing to help. Thanks to all these great people that made our trip memorable and worthwhile. The ship: For those new to these ships, they are long and consist of three decks for state rooms and the top sun deck. We were on level 2 (room 225) that was back from the reception area. The restaurant was on this level forward, and upstairs was the lounge forward and aquavit terrace. Our room was very nice with a king bed and chair and the slider out to veranda. The room had plenty of storage for our clothes and other items. Luggage is stored under the bed. The closet contained a safe. Two bottles of mineral water are provided daily and there is a fridge for you to add items of your own (we bought wine, beer and sodas at various stops). That is a nice feature. The bathroom was ample with the heated floor / non-fogging mirror and the provided body wash, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. A hair dryer is provided as well. The shower was the best I’ve had on a cruise ship. Always hot and good water pressure. The room contained power outlets both US and EU versions. We brought converters so we had plenty of outlets. The room was nice and I liked the light modern feel to it. Our room attendant (Vladimir) was very attentive and took good care of the room. The large flatscreen tv was good but we just used it for the bowcam view and listening to the provided music stations ( the folk station was very good, it was more like classic soft rock/pop). I wish I could connect my device (i phone) music to the in room speakers via blue tooth. That would have been nice. The main dining room was nice with plenty of tables for seating. It was general seating for all meals and that was nice to get to talk to people. The meals were excellent and I enjoyed them all. Like most cruise ships, there were items that were always available for dinner and then the daily specials. I quite enjoyed the German dinner were we had the entertainment and the pretzels and German specialties. That was a fun dinner. The staff in the dining room were very attentive and fun to talk to. Breakfast in the dining room was nice with the buffet and then the order off the menu items. I liked the coffee machines located outside the lounge area and would get my early am fix every day. The pastries and afternoon cookies were yummo!! We only ate lunch in the dining room once and it was nice. Our other lunches were upstairs in the aquavit terrace. Eating meals in the terrace area was nice since we were outside and on the nice days it was very nice. We ate dinner at the aquavit terrace twice and enjoyed the lighter meals provided. The lounge staff were great and I liked the bar and the selection of drinks / brands available. We did not purchase the silver spirits package. Maybe on a longer cruise it would have been worth it to us. We bought some wine in Regensburg and the staff were fine opening it for us. Overall I found the ship to be light, airy, and modern in design, fixtures, and finishes. I liked this look and feel to the ship. The cruise: Nuremberg to Budapest We arrived late afternoon on Saturday June 28 to the ship so we just hung out and got settled. Our first night was nice as we sat in the canal and had dinner and listened to the cruise director (Oliver) tell us what we were in for as the week progressed. Sunday we took the included tour of Nuremberg. It was Interesting to see the history and then we walked around the castle area, ending up in the square by the cathedral. Since it was Sunday, it was quiet in town as all shops are closed on Sundays. There were tourist shops and restaurants open though so we stopped in to have some sausages and beers. We departed Nuremberg that evening and go on our way. We travelled down the canal to take us to the Danube and we enjoyed sitting outside on the top deck watching the scenery go by. It got chilly and I went inside to the aquavit terrace and asked about blankets and yes they have them. So we sat outside all bundled up and watched the river go by. Regensberg For our first stop on the cruise we took the optional tour that took us down the river gorge and to the monastery. We were given a beer and pretzel on the tour (at 9:30 am so early beer). And had a lovely trip down the river. The cliffs on each side were very cool. The monastery church was nice to see and but I’ve been on many beer tours so I stepped out of the movie since it was just a piece about the history of beer and how the monks make it. Instead I sat at the outdoor café and sample some more product. You can purchase more beer at the café to take back to ship with you. We walked back to bus and headed to ship for lunch. I spend the afternoon wandering in Regensburg and stopped into a department store just near the cathedral. And like most department stores in Europe, this one had a restaurant / cafeteria on the top floor. I checked it out and had a snack outside on the roof deck looking down on the town square. We found a lovely gourmet shop in town and sampled some wine and bought a few bottles to take back to our stateroom. We departed Regensberg and were off to our next stop. Passau We signed up for the tour of the Cathedral and organ music performance. It was enjoyable and the organ got very loud. We took the walking tour of the town but skipped out half way through and decided to visit a café and have lunch. We wandered the town for the rest of our time visiting shops. I would have liked to visit the castle(?) on the opposite side of the river but we never made it. Krems Well this was our day were we hung out on the ship. The majority of guests went to visit the abbey or take the bus ride to Munich but we decided to hang out. The ship stopped at Krems but did not stay long and then we were off again to pick up the folks who went o on the abbey tour. So I’d call this day a lay day for us. We played shuffleboard and read our books. Vienna We arrived in Vienna at night and we took the opportunity to get out and about. We took a taxi down to the center where St Stephens cathedral and walked around and went in and checked out the cathedral. From there we visited a café and then took a taxi to the Ferris wheel (featured in James Bond film, Living Daylights) and we took a ride. From this we were able to see just how large Vienna is. Our second day in Vienna we took the bus / walking tour and then walked around on our own. We took a horse carriage ride and then had a nice lunch. We then jumped in a taxi and went to Sh???? Palace. We did not go in since the wait time was over 70minutes and instead walked the gardens and up to the café at the arch that overlooked the palace We took in the view, had some strudel and then walked back. Taxi back to the ship and then we were off to our next stop. Budapest. Wow what a site. Just like on the Viking tv commercials. We entered into the city and were feasting on the parliament building and the castle area. We took the bus tour and that was nice and we then ended up at the cathedral and took the tour. It was very different than the other cathedrals we’d been to so that was different. We took the bus back to ship for lunch and then it was off to the thermal baths. This was an optional tour and it was a lot of fun. The baths are housed in an ornate building that we saw from the bus on the morning tour. You are given a magic wand wristband that controls access to your changing cubby. This allows you to change up and store your stuff but be able to get at it anytime easily. Since it was nice outside we did not do any of the indoor pools but they were popular, and a lot of them. This would be nice on a cold winter day. Outside there were the two large pools and the swimming pool. We visited these and liked the hot (but not too hot) pool. That was nice. We all felt our skin felt good after visiting. There was not a strong sulfur smell like other pools I have been to in the Azores and Iceland but a mineral type scent. There are vendors outside so we all had a drink after our soak before changing up to leave. We went back to ship and spent our last night out on the deck taking in the town as it lit up. The morning of our departure we stayed on the ship (though had to exit our room). We were too un-motived to walk down to covered market so we hung out. The crew were fine with letting us stay on board even saying we could stay until lunch. But we had to get going to the airport so we had to bid a goodbye to Viking Egil. Overall thoughts. This was our first river cruise after several large ship cruises. We enjoyed the more intimate environment provide by Viking. We both liked the ship and what it had to offer. Next time I’d bring my running gear to work out early when we were docked. The staff keep everything going and handle all the tours very well. It made for an easy experience. Though I did not mind, my wife found the bed to be a bit firm. Other than that, the food, the staff, and the cruise were all excellent. Read Less

We wanted to try a river cruise and see the Danube and that part of Europe.. Loved everything about it food and service were excellent!! Favorite place was Budapest but each stop was interesting. Everyplace we stopped we could either walk into town or they had Viking buses to take us, the tours were wonderful. They also had choices for folks who wanted to walk more and others who wanted to go more on the bus. We added on time both before and after the cruise. We started our trip in Berlin and spent a few days, than on to Nuremberg to catch the boat. After we got off the boat we spent extra time in Budapest than rented a car and traveled to Slovenia and Croatia for another week, both beautiful and very interesting. We were there late Oct. to mid Nov. weather was great sunny and clear but not hot, probably in the 40's. Perfect for sight seeing with a warm coat. We will do another river cruise in the future. Nuremberg to Budapest is a beautiful itinerary. We had actually sailed this same stretch on previous Viking cruises-Vienna to Amsterdam in 2008 and Basel to Antwerp in 2012. Enjoyed the ports so much that we wanted to see them again. The organ concert in Passau was very memorable. The captain timed our arrival into Budapest so that the city was lit up. Spectacular! We enjoyed having free time in several ports, especially in Vienna. Read Less

Having taken a number of land individual and group tours in Europe, including Prague, Budapest and Vienna in 2001, I and my travel companion wanted to experience a more relaxing time, avoiding multiple overnight stays in different hotel rooms. Except for the initial add-on of 3 days in Prague, it truly was a wonderful, informative and relaxing experience river cruising. I consider every place visited in Germany, Austria and Hungary to have been special - the WWII sites in Nuremberg, a BMW assembly plant, the cathedral organ in Passau, the museums and cafes of Vienna, and superbly scenic and historic Budapest. The final highlight was the evening cruise on the Danube in Budapest. Food service was top notch, the cabin comfortable and well designed and I rate the entertainment director very highly. He was professional, well informed and always helpful in answering questions and suggesting ideas for port explorations. Compared with other cruises (ocean) I have taken this Viking cruise was best by far. Read Less

Had never been on a cruise and friends recommended a river cruise, specifically Viking. Viking staff took care of everything from the moment we arrived in Nuremberg until they saw us off at the Budapest airport. The room was clean, looked quite new, and was well designed and appointed. It was great to unpack and stow the suitcases under the bed until departure. All aspects of the room were well designed to be compact but allow for room to move around, store clothing in drawers and closet, and take care of all bathroom needs. Had a nice view through the sliding glass door. The ship itself provided for reading and computer usage in a library, indoor and outdoor dining, a lounge for entertainment and socializing, an upper deck with seating and several games, a concierge to help with sightseeing plans, and a person in charge of all the tours and activities, with a daily briefing in the lounge so that we always knew what the next day held. The dining was excellent, with options that included full meals, light meals, and snacks as well as soft drinks, coffee, tea, and a full bar. For each meal there were many options to include coverage of all tastes and diets; everything we ate was well prepared and seasoned. Shore excursions were varied and included tours of towns, cities, and abbeys/cathdrals (including an organ concert in Passau), a ferryboat ride, and making strudel, as well as a variety of optional activities. This was my first experience on any type of cruise ship. I wanted to see the cities along the Danube this cruise included on the route. Viking created a wonderful experience from the time spent in Prague until it ended in Budapest! There were Viking staff along every leg of this trip to help make the experience very memorable. From the time we got off the plane in Prague til we got to security at the Budapest airport the entire staff on this ship was fabulous, welcoming and knowledgable about the ship and areas we were visiting! The wait staff was very attentive to the people at their tables especially when one sat in the same waiters area for the whole trip. Housekeeping paid attention to every little detail. The tours of the cities we stopped in were great and very well organized. The guides were locals, knew their hometowns very well and could impart a lot of information, useful and fun facts about each of the towns and cities we stopped in along the route. The customer service on the Egil and the company of Viking were unparalleled! Read Less

We have done a previous Viking cruise and really enjoyed it. We did the cruise from Paris to Normandy & back. We loved Budapest, one of the most beautiful cities we have ever experienced. We were so glad we added 2 extra days to explore it more. Highly recommend a visit to this city. We were disappointed in Vienna, a blah city to us. Maybe we were not exposed to the better parts of the city All of the amenities that Viking offers are excellent, from the rooms, wonderful food/meals with multiple choices, the daily land excursions included. We signed up for 3 additional excursions (additional cost) and enjoyed all of them. The local guides were very knowledgeable and provided insightful information to the area. We will do another Viking cruise to a new area of travel for us. Read Less

We celebrated our 40th anniversary by treating ourselves to a cruise. We have been on a 3,000+ cruise ship and in comparison, the river cruise was so very nice, intimate, and relaxing. Being able to sail through little villages and feeling so close to the area we were in was delightful. The tours that were included were informative and well done with knowledgeable guides. The extra tours included a nice variety of choices. Dining was open so we sat with many, many different people. The food was excellent and made dining a delight. We met new friends from England that we will be friends with forever. It was fun to meet new people from everywhere in the world. The ship was well appointed and our cabin very comfortable. The crew was very accommodating and treated us royally. Everything was so well planned that it made our travel stress free, from meeting us at the airport to our lovely hotel room in Budapest.Yes, we will do it again and look forward to our next trip!
