Chose this cruise because it included everything. We feel we are now spoiled for any other company.Low water levels meant we couldn't cruise between Regensburg and Passau so we were stuck in Passau for a few days. Scenic handled it brilliantly and bussed those who wanted to see Nuremberg .We chose to do the extra trip to Passau which is beautiful. The ship was very modern and stable .Didn't feel any movement . Only heard noise going through the locks . Excellent showers in the cabins, wonderful beds. I thought my bed at home was soft until last night when the mattress felt hard in comparison. The food and wine plentiful. I put on six pounds in weight. Brilliant pianist,Mark, every night.. The classical concert at the Palace Liechtenstein in Vienna is memorable. Hungarian dancers on our last night. Great fun. Loved the great mix of people on board everyone was so friendly. I have left the best to last. The marvellous crew. They couldn't do enough for you. Always smiling, always friendly. We have been cruising many years,Twenty five in all, mostly ocean cruises and all the different companies . This was our first with Scenic .Hubby has now stated any future ones will be with Scenic. Read Less

We chose this cruise line after asking many people which cruise line they would suggest. This was the number one cruise line that was suggested to us. It was a bit more than other cruise lines but everything was included. You did not ever have to take out your wallet unless you wanted to buy something for yourself. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff felt like family by the end of the cruise. They took an extra effort to get to know you and to remember your name. There was a lot of excursions to choose from and they were all included and were excellent. Their buses were waiting for you at each stop and they were the top of the line buses with excellent drivers. It was such a relaxing time and amazing to sit up on the top deck with a glass of wine and watch the beautiful scenery along the Danube river. The service was top notch. Anything you asked for was brought to you immediately. We were on the second floor and our room was quite roomy. The beds were king size and very very comfortable. There was local entertainment brought on to the boat at nearly every port and was quite enjoyable. There was always a piano player as well. I would highly recommend this cruise line. This is the first trip I have ever taken that I was not ready to go home. I could have stayed for at least another week or longer!! Read Less

Wow! I have never been so spoiled! It was amazing, I truly believe that every staff member wants you to have the absolute best time are there to make sure it happens. From the initial greeting when we got to the boat to the time we left. One of the highlights was When the chef would come out after each port talk and let you know the culinary masterpiece that he had prepared for you that evening. We were never hungry... The wait staff were always very attentive and polite and never left you wanting for anything (my husband may have had a couple of 2 dessert nights). The wine glasses were never empty. The excursions were top notch with really great guides. The cruise director JJ did such a great job of explaining all the possible excursions the first night that we actually ended up changing a couple of our choices and were not disappointed. The room and ship were luxurious and tastefully decorated. It was worth every dollar spent and I would definitely go on another scenic cruise. Read Less

Disaster from from the start. Low water levels meant we couldn’t start at Nuremberg, which I know is beyond their control, went to Passau and stayed there for 3 days which was a long way from Passau it’s self, had to look at a brick wall for3 days. Too far to walk anywhere so never saw Passau. Had to endure hours on coaches to get anywhere. No food for us when we eventually arrived at the ship being told the embarkation lunch finished at 3.00. By now it was late afternoon and hadn’t eaten since early morning when we had breakfast at the airport, and dinner that night wasn’t until 7.30. Surely theyknew a coach load of passengers were arriving late! On a few occasions when we arrived back for lunch, they were already clearing the food away so it was rush rush to get anything. We were travelling with a group of friends who were all totally disappointed with this trip. This was the first time they had been on a river cruise and we recommend it ,as we had had an excellent cruise on the Rhine 2 years ago with a different company. We only had 4 days cruising which was lovely when we got going. I don’t know why there were no contingency plans for this situation it didn’t just happen overnight It was a very rushed and stressful holiday and Scenic being a premium cruise company was a great disappointment to us as well as being a very expensive holiday, we were totally fed up. On the bright side though, the ship and cabins were spotlessly clean and our butler was excellent. Also Darinka, the cruise manager, was doing an excellent job in very difficult circumstances. This was our first river cruise after a number of ocean cruises (mainly with Seabourn) and we were hugely disappointed. Notwithstanding the outstanding quality of the service from every single member of staff (with just one exception), the ship is very cramped. The cabin (it is entirely misleading to call it a suite) is very small, and while the design makes the best use of the space, and the walk-in-shower is excellent, it is very difficult to move around the cabin without bumping into each other and even the bed was uncomfortable with mattresses that sloped away from the centre. There is just one lounge and when everyone was on board this became very crowded - on the penultimate day the weather was good enough to sit on the sun deck which relieved the congestion. What really shocked us, however, was the food - with the honourable exception of breakfast, the quality was really poor - sometimes almost inedible. We discussed it with the chef who explained that with the very small kitchen it really is difficult to do better - given that we paid slightly more for this 7 day cruise than we did for our most recent 7 day Seabourn cruise, the woeful quality of the food makes it hugely over-priced. As far as the cruise itself was concerned, the Danube is now really crowded, with the result that we often had to queue for the (very many) locks that you encounter between Nuremberg and Budapest. Talking to other passengers who had done this same trip 4 years earlier, the congestion has clearly grown exponentially over that time - indeed if it continues like this it is difficult to see how the river will cope. All this was made much worse for us because our cabin was at the very back of the ship right over the engines, and this meant that during every visit to a lock at night (and this happened almost every night) the noise was such that we were woken every time. The trips we took were well-organised with some excellent guides although we opted out of both trips on one day (where each trip involved coach journeys of over 4 hours) and we spent a very pleasant day on the ship with just 20 other passengers, sailing through some particularly attractive parts of the river. Scenic makes much of its enrichment activities which on this occasion took the form of a concert of Mozart and Strauss in an elegant Viennese setting. For anyone who knows anything at all about classical music, the snippets of music that were presented were more frustrating than anything else, made worse by a very strange acoustic, which may have been exaggerated by some form of electronic amplification, even though no microphones were visible. In conclusion, this cruise represents extremely poor value for money. The outstanding staff did everything they could to mitigate this, but the fundamental shortcomings in the design of this very modern ship (too many too small cabins, too little space to cook decent meals, too few public areas) undermined their very best efforts. From start to finish our cruise was amazing. From the food to the tours to the cabins and staff, we had no complaints on our trip from Budapest to Vilshofen. Even when Mother Nature decided to change our plans (we were supposed to sail to Nuremberg but the river was too low) they made sure that not only could we go on our previously chosen off ship tours, they made sure we had the option to tour a more local spot for those who didn’t want a long bus ride to their original tour choices. Speaking of which, the tours were interesting, educational, varied and nearly every single port had something for everyone. And when it didn’t. Stay on the ship and watch the beautiful scenery pass you by! Not to mention the amazing food and lovely lounge pianist. There’s even a pool you can relax and enjoy, plus a fitness room and on board massage therapist as well as a hairstylist if you want to pamper yourself. We highly recommend this tour to anyone considering it! Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was where we wanted to go and had the best ratings. The cabins were beautiful, the service excellent, and the food and drink fantastic. We were offered a variety of excursion options, and each one we chose was excellent. The staff were very friendly, accommodating, and proficient. The cities we visited were wonderful and the people who took us on the excursions were knowledgeable and often very humorous. When we encountered a broken river lock that prevented further travel by boat, our cruise Director, J.J., managed to arrange travel by bus and 5 star hotel accommodations that ensured we went to the cities listed and had available the same excursion options. In fact, the hotel stays allowed us to walk out the front doors into the heart of the cities, so that was a minor inconvenience. It was an amazing trip that we have recommended to every who asks. And we will do another cruise as soon as we are able. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was sold as being a first class all inclusive cruise. Unfortunately it was neither. We flew to Prague and spent three days there (beautiful city) then on a bus and off to Nurnberg to board the ship. A couple of hours in we were advised that there was a rope caught in the propeller. They had days to advise us but waited until we were at the point of no return to tell us that the ship had to go to a shipyard for repair for one of our seven days onboard. Then the lock was damaged ahead of us and we were given two options. Fly home the next day or take a bus the rest of the way. At that point all inclusive ended and customer support became non-existent. Once they have your money they just don't care anymore. DON'T DO IT!!! Evenings spend in hotel packing and unpacking early morning calls in order to get the next bus to the next destination. The ship was fine from the little time we spend on it. Cabins are clean and small but ok for needs. Dining was fine not as good as larger ocean liners. Entertainment and Activities were fine however had very little since not on ship long enough. Service of crews was fine and Ports and Shore excursions were rush and no time to relax due to long bus drives and stopping for pee breaks looking for change to pay for them. Would not go Scenic again not impressed. Read Less

We choose Scenic because of its all inclusive trip. Not one time did we have to take out our wallet while sailing; this alone was relaxing and beyond priceless. The entire staff on the Amber went above and beyond our expectations. Our Cruise Director Beata was the entire package. She was extremely knowledgeable, patient and professional; Scenic is very lucky to have her. Our hotel manager, Mauricio, ensured our staff was more than we could have expected. We enjoyed that the Chef would explain each meal depending on our location on the river. The meal choices were equally enjoyable, we never went away hungry. Although the weather was not as great as one would want, that did not change how we felt about sailing with Scenic, it was amazing. If we could suggest anything, it would be to have umbrellas available on the buses as the weather could and did change without warning and we did not have any umbrellas available. Read Less

He was helpful in making suggestions and so very professional and cordial. Also all wait staff in dining rooms were great, Alexander, Stan, “Daniel Craig”, Andy, Wilber, Rada, JJ, etc. loved them all. Food was good and especially liked that evening meal, while elegant, was just right amount, not too much. Only recommendation would be that on shore excursions it would have been better if passengers were given hand held devices as a lot of our iPhones lost power by the end. Wish we could have had more time at all of the stops, especially Budapest which was a real hidden Gem. Joined friends on a Christmas Market River Cruise. We had booked two nights pre cruise and two nights post cruise in local hotels.Three days before we left home, Scenic changed our hotel from a 5 Star to a 3.5 star hotel. the business office insisted that this was considered an upgrade for us. The two nights were over $650. USD Embarkation as well as disembarkation were very smooth. The cruise director, Richard Gray, could not have been more accommodating. The ship is Lovely, and the cabin adequate. The service level is very high. All the staff were top notch. As there are drought conditions in Europe, the River levels can be an issue. We were prepared pre-cruise, that there could be an alternate itinerary. As it turned out this cruise was the first all season,to make the entire cruise on the river. There is much hype about their special pillows. Problem was that they ran out of the special down pillows on the first day. There is also much hype with regards to the cuisine. They should tone that down a bit. The buffets are good. Much selection for breakfast and lunch. You also have an option of ordering of a "special menu". Menu items were not freshly prepared. In general there is an issue of cold food. If there is a special menu offering Eggs Benedict, it is a reasonable expectation that the dish will be freshly prepared. That was not the case. The eggs were cold and overcooked. The food needs help. Read Less

We choose this particular trip for three reasons. First, we specifically wanted a Christmas market trip in Germany. The itinerary and length of trip matched exactly what we had in mind. Second, when looking at various trips the partnership between Scenic and National Geographic had strong appeal for us. Finally, in reviewing the Scenic Cruise line, their amenities and full service approach it all added up to booking with them. Once the initial booking was made it could not have been any more organized and easier. Every detail was captured and managed by Scenic. We chose to make our own airline arrangements but once made they added it to our itinerary and took care of connections from airport to hotel, hotel to ship and back again. It was as close to having private trip planner managing all the details as it could get. One month before we were to sail, we received detailed instructions and recommendations at our home. Once we boarded the plane to travel to Germany, Scenic really took care of everything after that. Arriving at the ship, the embarkation was smooth and fast. It could not have taken more than five minutes to check in and be escorted to our room. Their the staff assigned to us went over all the details of the room, what was available to us and how to contact them. The ship was modern, build in 2015, and immaculately clean. It remained that way throughout the trip. Our junior balcony suite was spacious and comfortable. We had plenty of room for our clothes and to spread out, including a glass lined balcony. The first evening and every evening after that the cruise director went over details for the next days itinerary and options. Each stop had several choices for guests to take advantage of ranging from fully guided tour to complete free time. Everything was completely organized and clear. After that talk, in the evening, a summary of what was said was placed in our room to help us remember. Also, there were countless staff available to answer any questions and help with any issue. On board each day were culturally related entertainment that were tied to the area we were in. Each offering was of high quality and enjoyable. In addition, two National Geographic experts on board gave presentations on the cruise that also were tied to the trip and region. They also accompanied us on our shore excursions and were available for any discussion. Shore entertainment excursions were also of the highest quality in wonderful settings. An example would be a private concert in a palace in Vienna that included an orchestra, opera and waltz. Really breathtaking. All shore excursions whether entertainment or informational were well organized with simple instructions. If informational local guides were well prepared, professional and highly informative. Food and drink on board were excellent and plentiful. As with the trip, we could have as much or as little as we wanted. Always great quality, the chef and other staff were also readily available for us to discuss the menu and quality. If we wanted special orders they were fulfilled with no problem. This was an excellent cruise from start to finish. Professional crew, focused on us having a great time really brought it all together. We would definitely recommend this trip and use Scenic again... Chose this trip because of superb reputation of the company. Were we wrong! Has the company been sold to a low price, cut the corners outfit? We were to sail from Bern to Amsterdam. They knew weeks in advance that the river was low and much of the trip would be by bus. TELL US AND LET US CHOOSE TO CANCEL. No, we learned the day before departure that there was a problem and the extent of the problem was only leaked out by the cruise director on a day to day basis. In apologizing she said they only discovered the problem 2 days before departure. THIS WAS A LIE. We encountered other passengers from competing vessels who were notified weeks in advance and given an opportunity to cancel for a full refund. I won't go into details of the itinerary--mostly traveled by bus. We missed staying in 5 scheduled ports, excursions were cut short because we had to be bused long distances and several excursions were not done at all. We had to pack-up midway and transfer to another vessel downstream. We had paid for and were in a deluxe suite on the first ship but in the new ship we were put into a smaller cabin. THE DOOR SIGN HAD BEEN CHANGED TO APPEAR TO BE A BETTER CLASS CABIN.. When confronted the staff had to admit that the new vessel had fewer deluxe suites and so some passengers had to be downgraded. Scenic has offered to GENEROUSLY allow us to claim partial reimbursement from the trip insurance we purchased for 3 of the 8 days of the journey. Five or six of the days had poorer itineraries than promised. We spent at least 20 excess hours on buses. The company has offered no compensation, no discount on a future trip (which I would not take anyhow) or other accommodation. The staff on the original vessel, the Scenic jewel, was first rate, interested in our comfort and concerned about the changes in itinerary. The crew on the Opal were uninterested, expressed dissatifaction with the conditions of their employment and generally unavailable to deliver services. Read Less

This is actually a review of the Jasper which was subbed for this itinerary, the ships are identical. We chose Scenic based on reviews, the itinerary, their cruise guarantee (which really paid off) and the all inclusive price. Our interruption started on Day 3 in to 4 when instead sailing to Passau we stayed in Regensburg due to low water levels. We toured Salzberg on Day4 from Regensburg, a minor inconvenience with a slightly longer bus ride. That night we were informed that we would not be moving. We had the choice of staying on the boat and taking our chances, leaving the cruise for good and getting a refund or taking a bus to Melk and the Abbey the next day and staying in a hotel. We chose that option. About 20 people left for good and another 30 or so stayed on the boat. The next day was the biggest inconvenience, with a long bus ride to Melk and a night in a hotel. Fortunately that night we were informed that after a bus tour to Vienna the next day (and a wonderful concert at the Lichtenstein Palace that night) we would be meeting the ship again as they did a dam release and the ship was under way. We rejoined the boat that night to an enthusiastic "welcome back" and sailed to Bratislava the next day. When we disembarked, the ship took off to make up time and rejoined it that night by bus. The final day we sailed in to Budapest and they let us tour Budapest in the morning and come back to ship for lunch. Given the circumstances beyond their control, Scenic could not have handled things better. Our wonderful Cruise Director worked tirelessly to keep the itinerary going and the staff went out of their way to keep us in good spirits. We received a refund of several hundred dollars a day for the four days we were inconvenienced. Overall the ship and the staff were wonderful. Service was excellent. The cabin was spacious, modern and comfortable. Food was consistently good to excellent. Evenings in the lounge were a lot of fun. Our fellow passengers were great travelling companions, especially after the few complainers left the cruise after the fourth night! Tours were well organized with wonderful guides. I would highly recommend Scenic as a cruise line. They are pricey, but once on board you truly never have to touch your wallet. Read Less

It looked luxurious and was all inclusive, albeit very expensive. Paperwork from Scenic was very thin and confusing. Ship was changed a week or so beforehand to an older vessel when low water on the Danube became a problem. The ship change was no issue in itself but it was clear that the low water was going to cause huge disruption. We hardly moved for the first days and then had four days when we couldn't do most of things we had paid for including Vienna and Budapest. Guests were offered flights home or bus tours and hotels: the latter was not what we had paid for so we chose the former but before flights could be arranged the ship sailed on - for a bit. Each day then was chaos with constantly changing plans. Eventually we sailed all through the nights so didn't see much of the Danube and arrived in Budapest at one in the morning and left the ship at nine to fly home. Scenic should have cancelled this trip and refunded the money or offered alternatives. Their emphasis was to get the ship to a destination from where it could meet their cruising schedules. We are still in discussion about compensation but so far have been offered a surly 17% refund. I cannot recommend Scenic since although the ship was lovely and the food very good but not outstanding, and low water in itself beyond their control, the way they have handled things afterwards was very poor. This is all rather sad since Scenic could have done themselves a lot of good by immediately offering a 50% refund or a discount on another cruise. Read Less

Trip compromised by low water levels. We had to be bused three hours to an alternate older ship. The usual views were of other ships moored against us. Long journeys by coach. Most of the guides gave limited information relative to our usual travel experiences. Walking tours did not provide options for people with limited mobility. There were only two days out of the eight that matched expectations. The food compares with adequate convention food; very difficult to select low cholesterol options which was surprizing given the average age: most of us probably were on statins. Cabin was very tight and the private balcony could not be used because of the adjacent ships so the premium was not of any value; we had to keep the drapes closed for privacy otherwise you would be able to see and touch cabins on the next ship. All inclusive did not result in good value for experienced travellers; this is meant for people who prefer to assign details to a "tour operator". Scenic can not control the river levels but could improve some service and excursions. Excellent travel companions helped make the best of the trip. Read Less

We believed the Scenic literature and presentation and signed up. The river was low and so we had a substitute older ship, the Pearl; we were bused from Nuremburg to Passau for the first three days of the cruise. We were berthed in an industrial area next to the garbage bins. We had paid for a balcony cabin, but since we were docked next to other ships for most of the trip, this was impossible to use. The drapes remained closed and the balcony was waste space. Only half of the guides were informative, the food was convention quality, the wine was plonk and the service was average relative to the cruise industry. Most of the passengers were over 65 and likely were on statins, but most of the menu was high in cholesterol and waiters could not suggest appropriate dishes. Would it be a real problem to provide skim milk for cereal? Scenic has no control over river depths, but they do have control over other aspects and the quality was limited. Two days out of eight matched expectations. Only redeming quality was the opportunity to interact with terrific fellow passengers who made the journey memorable. Read Less

We chose this cruise du to the fact that it was all inclusive and the write-ups. Due to river levels we did not get to sail on the ship we paid for. This we found out the day before we boarded the ship (Scenic Amber) hence we were on an older vessel lacking amenities we paid for. At the time of booking this cruise (may 2017) we book adjacent rooms with close friends as both couples were celebrating 40th anniversary, and this trip was to commemorate this event. Upon boarding the ship found us separated substantially on the same deck. When we approached the cruise director he informed that the ships were different configuration and there was nothing he could do. We would have to take it up with Scenic at a later date. Needless to say the cruise started off totally with a crash. The change to the second ship ended up consuming almost 2 days with an evening packing, 6 hours on a bus for a 2 hour tour and an evening for unpacking into tighter quarters on "Scenic Pearl". Dining on board was average at best but should be rated at 2.5, other than the Table La Riv. Compared to other cruises I have been where dining would be 4 to 5. Read Less

We had never done a cruise before; ocean or river and decided it would be a terrific way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. While scheduled to go on the Scenic Amber our ship in Nuremberg was the Scenic Jade due to low water levels and Amber's inability to travel the Danube. Our Scenic travel arrangements were seamless. We were met at the airport, taken to our hotel that we were staying at the night before our cruise date, and then met in the hotel lobby then next day for transport to our cruise. All we dealt with were lovely, professional, courteous, and friendly pointing out interesting places en route. When we arrived at the ship it was prior to 3 pm but we were welcomed aboard enthusiastically. Our cabin was a bit roomier than we expected it to be and our butler Igor was charming. We were welcomed with a lovely card and a bottle of bubbly for our anniversary. A wonderful touch. The cruise director Richard was helpful, informative and upbeat. He had a bit of a job as we had been warned that we would likely change ships midway through the tour due to water levels and unfortunately had to do a bit of a dance until it was confirmed. He handled it all well from our point of view; difficult role to play being the messenger. We enjoyed the varied dinner menus with multiple options, riverside cafe, our special dinner invitations to Portobellos and Le Rive, the people we met, the well-organized tours, the tour guides, the ability to opt out if we wanted to explore on our own and the myriad of additional touches we experienced along route. We did change ships to the Scenic Pearl (apt as Pearl is the marker for 30th anniversary) midway through, missing Passau and our only wish was we had done this the other way around starting our voyage on the Pearl, as the Pearl cabin felt a bit smaller than the Jade but the staff were super. We were so impressed with everyone's attention to detail and the farewell night song to the travellers was hilarious. We are definitely fans of river cruising now and already investigating where else we want to explore. Kudos to all onboard Jade and Pearl. You helped create the most fabulous and brilliant wedding anniversary memories we will treasure always. Read Less

We have just returned from our 2018 “Gem’s of the Danube” luxury river cruise. Actually, that is not correct. We have just returned from a mediocre bus tour of several cities near the Danube. The best I can say is that there was a photo of a luxury river boat on the side of the buses. • We were promised a trip of our life time -- take the Scenic Route. Meals and drinks included. Leave your wallet at home. Personal butler service. Dine in style. A Five-Star experience. • What we got were long bus rides, short tours, jumbled hotel rooms, noisy city streets, and crowded cafeteria buffets. This was a very expensive cruise for which we had saved and planned. Scenic failed to deliver. After we boarded, at our first “Port Talk,” we were told there might be interruptions to our cruise due to water levels. Our Cruise Director was patronizing and misleading. We were consistently told there a was a good chance the tour would move forward. It had not rained in three months! Therefore, Scenic knew of the water problems. We should have been notified before leaving home and given the option of changing dates or canceling our trip. It is particularly significant that guests from other nations were in fact formally notified in advance of potential problems. We were not. We had the joy of sailing for one day with only 1/2 of a day of being able to sit on top of the ship and experience the beautiful scenery. And that one day was merely being taxied back and forth on the Canal. I do not believe we ever actually traveled the Danube. Looking at the map, we soon learned why we were seeing the same scenery over and over. Motoring upstream and then back downstream, we covered the same territory twice!! We then docked in the canal, in a desolate place where we had to walk through bushes on a dirt path in order to get to tour buses. Finally, we were notified there would be no more sailing. Other cruise lines completed the route during this time period. Other vessels with Scenic were able to exchange passengers and continue their river tour. We were the losers. Our options were to return home, stay in the canal, or continue on buses. We were housed, fed and given our excursions, but entirely lost the experience promised. • No exceptional service, exceptional food, or exceptional amenities. • No moving in and getting settled. • No sailing into the beautiful cities as described. • No sitting on top of the ship and enjoying the lights at night in Vienna and Budapest. Instead of a luxury suite overlooking the history of Europe, we got hotel rooms overlooking a noisy street. Instead of a romantic adventure, we got twin beds! We had to pack early each day, spend hours on buses, our tours were cut short, we paid for drinks and snacks, and we had to find change to use pay toilets at each rest stop. If we wanted a mediocre bus tour, we would have booked one – for much, much less money. • We were placed on a different ship - NOT the one that we had paid for. There are marked differences between the Jasper and the Jade – including age and the lack of a pool. • We missed several destinations – Linz, Wachau Valley, Passau. On the other hand, we traveled the Kelheim to Nuremburg Canal twice. • We lost the all-inclusive bar, 24-hour snacks, free mini bar, butler service, laundry, and in room dining. No greeting with champagne and flowers. • We spent more time on the bus than on the boat. We spent more time on the bus than on scheduled tours. And because of necessary driving time, the tours were cut short and free time reduced or eliminated. • After we left the boat, we did not have access to the Tailormades - which meant we could not hear the guides. • We did not enjoy any last night festivities. Many did not get to enjoy the Portabello Restaurant. • Moving every day was disruptive and stressful. We were required to pack up and have our luggage out by the door very early each morning. There was no luggage delivery at hotels. The purpose of selecting a cruise was to have continuity and comfort. • Our 4 a.m. airport shuttle (and promised breakfast box) failed to appear. We took a paid taxi to the airport. Scenic will respond that the navigation problem was unforeseeable. We believe Scenic knew of the likely problem for weeks and even months before the trip and gambled with our vacation to minimize cancellations and losses. (I do not believe they could have arranged 100 hotel rooms in each city on short notice.) As noted earlier, other guests were informed. We too should have been given options before we left the US. Scenic needs to make this right. They claim to be 5-star enterprise and to provide guests with luxury amenities and accommodations. We feel we were misled from the beginning. Since returning home we have been offered a 25% refund if we submit a claim to Scenic’s insurer. We have reached out to Customer Care, reminding them of the inconvenience, disappointment, and that a bus tour is significantly less expensive. Alan, Customer Care Manager, phoned me and promised a response within a week. I called him two weeks later, having heard nothing. He again promised a response within the week. He then emailed me referring me back to my local travel agent who does not work for Scenic. Clearly these people care little for their customers. Read Less

Gems of The Danube is marketed as 3 days in Prague and then join the Jasper in Nuremberg for a Danube cruise to Budapest. We signed up in August of 2017, paid and arrived in Prague on time. The transportation provided from airport to Prague was delayed because some passengers were late. The area is small, hot, no explanations, no offer to move us to an air-conditioned motor coach, no offer of bottled water - nothing. My husband inquired of a cab and our inquiry was ignored. We finally got transportation to Prague and arrived at the hotel. The accommodations in Prague are nice, The Imperial, typical European style hotel. We were there for 3 nights. The first night there was a welcome meeting with a class of wine and a walking tour of the area. The other Scenic sponsored tour while in Prague was again, a walking tour. No worries we hired a car and had a wonderful tour of Prague. There were signs early on that something was amiss. The Scenic staff were all a bit vague regarding details. Our guide said he needed to leave ahead of the group to meet other travelers and passed us off to another woman working for Scenic. She rode the coach with us and informed us that morning that we would not be going to Nuremberg and we would not be on the Jasper. She assured us that the only difference between the Jasper and our newly assigned ship would be the name, Jade. The water levels were low and we would not go to Nuremberg, but to Regensburg. None of the travelers seemed concerned, until guide and driver got lost looking for the ship. When we finally arrived we had to walk about 300 yards along an unpaved path to reach the Jade, which was not exactly in Regensburg, but we could glimpse the skyline if we tried. We went to the lounge area and experienced the most cursory greeting from the hotel manager, captain, and cruise director. It's clear to us all now that the company was well aware that we would not be on the ship long and they were all noticeably nervous and in the instance of the Cruise Director, very short tempered. Those on the Diamond Deck are invited to dine at Table La Rive, that is if you are on the ship long enough to enjoy such an invitation. The sundeck was only opened for use on the evening that we were told we would be enjoying the rest of the trip from a bus! Check out my pics of the sundeck. Good Timing. The idea of a butler for every cabin, forget it. These folks are far too busy with the duties of being waiters and bartenders to actually assist in your cabin. Those Scenic spaceship balcony, not! It's a tiny window and when you open it the air-conditioning immediately shuts off and you swelter. If you are looking for group meals, long lines, buffets style dining, long bus rides and cruise companies that prefer to keep you in the dark, then this is your company. We rode on a bus for nearly 8 hours on our way from Vienna to Budapest, we passed our hotel 3 times so we could see the sights from a bus window. The group lunch was at a Hungarian park that our city guide described as his children's favorite playground. he asked if we noticed the wooden fort and castle on the playground, his children love it. No thank you for me and my group. Read Less

This was to be a very special trip for my husband and myself and was ruined by the following: Flights to Munich airport were the cheapest tickets available, no seats had been reserved, therefore we had to purchase our seats via the airline so that we could sit together. On arrival at Munich we were told we would have to wait for other passengers to arrive from various flights before we could be taken to our ship, this resulted in a THREE hour wait at the airport before our bus could leave. We were told we would not be going to Nuremburg as there was some issue, so were then taken by bus to a town further down the river, thus resulting in us missing the first section of our cruise. Our ship did not sail again until late afternoon on day THREE. The ship has one public room which holds the lounge/ bar and river café, One main dining hall which is like a staff canteen and very regimented, everyone is expected to eat each night at 7pm sharp, the 'open dining' only means that you can sit anywhere there are seats available. Table Larive is NOT a restaurant, but a long table at the back of the main restaurant, hosting 10 - 12 guests. Potobellos Restaurant is supposed to be Italian, but do not expect Italian food, and the menu is the same each night. The gift shop is a display cabinet at reception. The wellness centre is a very small room with one sink to wash hair with one hairdresser. The massager has the room next door which is only big enough for a table and little else. We could not use our balcony or open our window while moored as we were constantly double moored which resulted in us looking directly into the ship along side. There was no waiter service on the sun deck. Sight seeing while cruising was limited as we tended to sail more during the night, which in our cabin was very noisy due to being above the engine room. The free choice was not what we expected, you could go and see a church or a castle but this did not allow you any time to actually see the cities themselves, which is what we wanted to see. The Cruise Director was drunk each night and could be very rude at times We had a Royal Panorama Suit which was nice but not as shown in the brochure Our luxury transfer back home was a taxi mini bus!! Not sure where the luxury 5 star statement comes from in the brochure, luxury or VIP it was NOT. We paid over £8,000.00 for a seven day cruise, which was not worth the money, It was our first and last river cruise, however, I am sure there will be other companies out there which would supply a much better experience. Scenic did an excellent job in managing the Danube cruise for us. They were on top of all aspects of the cruise. The attention to detail; the fact that everything was covered and we did not have to pay for any extras; excellent coaches for our on land tours; certified and knowledgeable tour guides who were simply wonderful; great on board staff who made you feel welcome and communicated with us on a regular basis giving us updates on the daily tours, the fabulous food and drink etc. The cruise director, the captain, the head chef were all very good and worked very hard to make our trip one of the best we have ever had. We really wanted to go on the river danube cruise since we have a lot of interest in Austria and Germany plus we decided to add on a 3 day tour of Prague and 1 extra day in Budapest. Prague was one of the most beautiful cities we have been in and the tour guide Martin was the best guide we have ever seen. He deserves a lot of recognition for the excellent job that he did.
