The ship was generally in good shape but the stairs were not solid and sagged at times when you went up or down the stairs. We had a nice balcony cabin for overlooking the Panama Canal. It was mid ship and we were able to see the other ships going in the opposite direction. For most of the cruise the bathroom smelled from sewage. We had the hotel director's staff come and look at the issue. They eventually fixed the problem. There was no reason for us to keep going to Guest Services to complain about the problem. The food service at the seven seas was awful. The food arrived cold and once the food was delivered, the server did not come back to check on us. We never saw the head waiter. In the four seasons, the waiters were very attentive, the hot food came hot. In the buffet it was hard for us to usually find food that we could eat. The Indian food is too spicy. Most of the other items had pork or pork products in it and we do not eat pork. This included bacon in the mac and cheese, ham in the sour kraut. various ham sandwiches and bacon in the salads. Towards the end of the cruise, they were running out of food and the milk was spoiled, same for the yogurt and you needed to find a manager to get the spoiled products removed. The cruise director was hard to find, he was hard to understand at the main theater and P A system announcements. The production shows were good. The cruise director staff provided us with good games and trivia challenges but they reused a number of the questions over and over again. Besides that there was not much to do on sea days. For some of the ports, the length of time in port was too short to really enjoy the port. I don't understand why we stopped at some of the ports. They barely even has a choice of shore excursions. We chose this cruise because we have always wanted to go through the Panama Canal. Going through the Panama Canal was the highlight of the trip and the only part of the cruise that I would recommend anybody doing. The stop in Costa Rica was absolutely awful. Puntarenus, Costa Rica was our excursion for that day. Excursion was titled “scenic Costa Rica”. We saw nothing but trees, shack‘s and trash all along the route. I asked the excursion desk people why they even stopped in this area. They said their stops on the cruise ship came from the corporate office. I showed them the pictures I took from our excursion and they agreed, it’s an awful place for the cruise ship to stop, but their hands were tied. I advise them to call it something different then “scenic Costa Rica” because we surely did not see anything scenic. The room stewards were very accommodating, however, the staff in the dining room appeared new to the cruise line and very inexperienced. We had to wait great lengths of time to get our food, which by most standards, was just mediocre. The steaks were tough and the soups were the same almost every night, had very little flavor and not very interesting. There was nothing on the menu in the main dining room that I would write home about. The specialty dining’s were good, not great . The buffet in the upper deck were always crowded because there was not enough room for a more variety of dishes on the service line. They had the same thing almost every single night. Their nightly shows were OK but nothing that I would ever returned to see again. The movies that they showed in the movie theater were geared to children 8 to 15. The movie selections on the TV we’re also geared children. They had the Terminator II, a lego movie and Batman movie and some other child’s movie, They only had five TV channels, three news stations, one TV show station and movie station, again geared to children. TV stations were so bad that even the comedian in one of the shows joked about how bad the TV choices were. I have to say, the average age on this cruise was 65. The activities, movie selections and shows in the main theater should have been geared to a more mature audiences. We did not buy the drink package but we did find that the same glass of wine in one bar would be two dollars more in another bor for the same wine. I will not recommend Norwegian Cruise line anymore. We have been on several Norwiegian cruises, including the Sun the Epic and the Pearl and we will no longer recommend cruising with Norwegian. Read Less

We always wanted to cruise thru the Panama Canal. This cruise offered a great list of ports plus the canal. The Norwegian Sun had received terrible press before our cruise due to a previous cruise construction activities getting ready for a retro fit. The ship was in good condition when we boarded it in Seattle. There were still areas in need of work but overall the retro fit made the ship very presentable. The food on board in the Garden Cafe was average. The Speciality eating choices were very good. As a general rule the staff was friendly except for a few individuals. Overall this was an enjoyable trip. Our cabin steward was very attentive and made our cabin a pleasant retreat when we need a place to retire to. The ports of Cabo San Lucas , Acapulco and Cartagena were less than pleasant stops with vendors constantly hassling us to buy something we did not need. The carriage ride in Columbia was good except for the constant hassling by vendors. Read Less

Chance to see the Panama Canal on a cruise with several interesting stops. The food was excellent if a little repetitious at times. The entertainment was first class in the theater and in the bars. Colibri gave older people a chance to dance to their favorites. Katerina related to her audience so well. We upgraded to a balcony cabin and were glad we did so, it was kept spotless every day. The Panama Canal transit was great and so interesting. We were disappointed with our two excursions. The boat trip and divers in Acapulco was mostly looking at houses with just a few minutes watching the divers from a great distance. We saw only 3 divers. The boat was uncomfortable. The canoe trip through the mangrove swamp was extremely uncomfortable and we didn't see any wildlife as we had expected. Embarkation was total chaos. We were put in a large room and given numbers and told to wait. After the numbers ran out, people just walked past all of us and went straight on to the ship. There was no supervision or direction in the room. We could not find any personnel to deal with this problem. Debarkation was not much better. The ticket colors were supposed to help us arrive at the airport in time but all the colors were mixed up in the line. We waited a very long time to get on a bus. We arrived at the airport one hour before the flight and friends arrived 5 hours before their flight. Again there were not enough people to organize this. Overall we had a good cruise and will definitely sail with Norwegian again. Read Less

We have just returned from the "Cruise from HELL" aboard NCL Sun. During our 15 night cruise, there was construction going on. There was insulation blowing around, paint dust blowing everywhere, the muster station doors were closed off during DAYS of our cruise, the pool area was closed for a few days, sanding the decks, drilling, jack hammering etc from sun up until around midnight EVERY NIGHT. Our cruise was a complete DISASTER!! There was between 15% - 30% of the ship CLOSED on all days! A few of the specialty restaurants NEVER opened during the entire vacation. Many people have been sick with respiratory issues due to the nauseous fumes of the products they have been using while passengers are on board this cruise ship. The Sun is scheduled to be on dry dock for more renovations, but yet NCL chose to also inconvenience its passengers and put us all in danger as many of the Emergency meeting stations were not accessible while they were refinishing the deck floors on deck 6, the meeting deck. STAY AWAY from NCL! They don't care about their passengers...only saving money! This ship was quite old and dated. Many times, there was industrial fans running down the hallways as there were plumbing leaks. The crew did do the best they could during this situation. I particularly enjoyed Victor at the bar deck 11 aft. He was always smiling and trying his best. Room was OK. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to do a full transit of the Panama Canal. It left from San Francisco and sailed out under the Golden Gate Bridge, which was wonderful. We also enjoy "Fleet Week" activities by the Blue Angel Navy team while waiting to sail! We had been on a previous cruise on Norwegian Sun and liked the intimacy of this smaller ship. We decided to book and Oceanview Stateroom for the first time and were delighted with it! Freestyle dining was typical of other NCL cruises we have been on ~ decent to good food selections, but nothing outstanding. Dining room service was excellent. We also enjoyed meals in the specialty restaurants Cagney's Steakhouse and La Cucina. We only attended one evening show, but it was fun. We enjoyed the talented singers and dancers. Service, in general, was EXCELLENT! No complaints. Bartenders Jeffrey and Jerry, who worked the evening hours in the Champagne Bar (as well as other locations during the day on the ship) were OUTSTANDING! Simply THE BEST bartenders we have EVER encountered ANYWHERE!!! They have taken positions on other NCL ships, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that they might return to the Sun before we sail on her again in March 2019. We had visited several of the ports in the itinerary on another cruise, but they were OK to see again. We were NOT thrilled with the port of Puerto Chiapas, even though there was a VERY NICE tourist area with a huge palapa roofed building and pool adjacent to the dock. Most of the people enjoying the pool there seemed to be crew members. We would have prefered to call at Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, which is sometimes offered in the itinerary, so we could see the well preserved historic city of Antigua and near by volcanoes. The city of Tapachula, about 20 miles inland from Puerto Chiapas was definitely NOTHING special. My husband and I have traveled quite extensively in Mexico and this city was a huge disappointment. We took the shuttle back after about 20 minutes. In Costa Rica, we were redirected to the commercial container port of Puerto Caldera instead of calling at Puntarenas, as scheduled. Apparently there was a Princess ship that had top priority that docked there. The commercial port had NOTHING in the way of tourist attractions or services, as far as we could tell. It was located about 30 minutes from the cruise ship area, so people wanting to visit there had to purchase shuttle tickets at $20 per person, if I heard correctly. We had a private tour booked, so weren't affected. The transit through the Panama Canal was simply OUTSTANDING! We will be doing it again on the Norwegian Sun in March 2019 as a part of a cruise from Santiago Chile. Sailing into Cartagena Colombia was wonderful! The tall, white, modern buildings of the modern city skyline were breathtaking. There is a VERY nice tourist area adjacent to the dock with cafes, a zoo, a huge gift shop and more. We took a taxi into the city and did our own walking tour of the historic area with its fantastic, colorful buildings. We were in Cartagena about mid October and it was absolutely SWELTERING and breathless. I have lived in Tampa Florida and south Louisiana for 20+ years and am not bothered by heat and humidity, but THIS took it to a new level! Be prepared to SWEAT! Disembarkation in Miami was quick and easy. We took the NCL shuttle to the Miami airport. We did not book ANY NCL shore excursions on this trip. Ports of call were San Francisco, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Huatulco (loved this port and would like to visit there again independently!), Puerto Chiapas, Puntarenas (Puerto Caldera), Panama Canal transit (no stops), Cartagena and Miami. Would I do this same itinerary again. No, but I am glad that we did it. We will be on the Sun again and will call at Puntarenas (hopefully!), do the Panama Canal transit again, and Cartagena, with the cruise ending in Miami. Read Less

It has been nearly 10 years since I last cruised on NCL. I found that on this cruise the level of service and quality of food served was considerably less than on my previous NCL cruises. NCL has too many 'specialty restaurants' in which the service level barely comes up to the level that used to be available in the general dining room. General dining room service is slow, inefficient and leaves a lot to be desired in menu choices. On a 19 day cruise it felt like the menu in the general dining rooms never changed for the first two weeks. A couple of changes were noted on the last 4 days. Requests made of staff for things like extra sauce would take forever, and the meal course would be complete before the extra item was brought to the table, thus the extra was not longer required, but did result in less enjoyment of the food. Lunch time menus were the worst with food often coming out not nearly as hot as it should have and choices drastically limited and repeated day after day. My main reason to ever select another NCL cruise would be only if the price being offered were substantially less than that of a competing cruise line as you definitely do not get the same standard of service on NCL that I expected from previous NCL cruises. "Another don't-miss is Norwegian's signature Chocoholic's Buffet, held once per cruise on each ship. It's a magnificent sight to behold. " This quote is simply untrue as there was never a chocolate buffet..on two separate occasions we had water pouring from the ceiling in the hallway...4 to 5 buckets were placed on the floor to collect it...and when the weather turned cold our section of the ship had no working heat for one night and one day...our room steward offered us a one person coverup type blanket. The entertainment ranged from excellent to hastily improvised (an Elvis tribute with false starts and some onstage ego problems)... Read Less

It was a good cruise and being my first time really enjoy it will be taking other next year. Our Stewart was very nice room was always clean and if we needed anything he was willing to get it for us.almost every night it was show, dinner and dancing it was really nice to have different choose every day in what was happening at night. Most did private excursions on port days but we did one shore excursion with cruise and really enjoy that. There was so many different types of dining to choose from and it was good and you could eat where ever your heart was into that day. Enjoy the fact that it could be dress down or up depending on your mood. Could have not ask for better service from the cooks to the waiters who clean the tables and the messes that some people left. To me it was a good trip and being my first time really enjoy it was fun to meet different people from all over the world. But as always you get people who will complain about anything and sometimes it seems. That they enjoy hearing their own voice or just looking to complain about anything and if that is the case why not stay home than. p.s no curtain from shower goose me lol Read Less
