As a regular cruiser we have sailed on several ships in Royal, Carnival, and Norwegian. So this is not only a comparison to other companies but even within the same fleet. So let's begin with the ship. The Sun is an older ship, so we knew it would not have all the activities as the newer larger ships, but did not expect was certain parts of the ship including our room had a consistent smell of sewage. This was prevalent from the moment we stepped in on level 5 through our current sailing as I write this on to New Orleans due to the hurricane. More on that later. State rooms, again in addition to the smell, they are so understaffed that they don't even make the towel animals. Now this is not a big deal, but there are no details on anything. You are getting the bare-bones basics, don't expect anything else. Furthermore, beach towels, we had to constantly ask for them, our porter would not leave any in our room though we got an initial set and instructed to leave in our bathroom the dirty ones to get new ones. Restaurants, on this cruise we planned to just eat with included location as we have sailed and enjoyed the other options. Let me say bad choice... the food is blah at best. Most meals were tasteless, the soups tasted like they came from a can. The buffet food was just to fill you up, but not flavorful. In the Seven Seas dining room we did have an amazing waiter which we ensured to have every evening Lief James is amazing and went out of his way to give amazing service. He learned our wine preference and would just asked if we wanted our usual. But the food overall was okay, the best thing we had was the honey creme brulee but most of the other meals were just okay at best. Sports Bar, in most other shops the sports bar run 24/7 but not on the Sun, you gotta wait till 5:30pm. It does stay open till 5:30am, but if you want wings for lunch, tough luck. Bars, are okay. They really liquor up the drinks. But about half the bar staff are so rude, especially in the pool area. There was one Peruvian bartender who was funny and very nice to everyone but can't say the same about the rest of the pool bar staff. Activities, though their shows in the theatre were great, the rest of the ship activities are lacking. So the Cruise Director was MIA most of the time, had the personality of a shoe and shouldn't be directing activities at a daycare, little less a cruise ship. I spoke to many of the bands on board as they were pretty good, but it seemed their schedules were off, when I asked this director was new and changed it, so rather than having their top dance/party band playing the club to get people dancing, they would have them play an acoustic set in the atrium. Now about our storm experience... We were on another NCL ship when hurricane Maria went to South Florida and though a stressful experience, the ships staff on the Sky were amazing about getting information out... On this ship it has been a super horrible experience, each staff member you ask, you get different information. The Capt and Cruise Dir have been putting out bits of information and leaving much to speculation and creating havoc. Even worse, we were not allowed to cancel our cruise beforehand, only went to Cozumel though part of our charges included port charges for 3 ports, and no mention of credits or discounts on future cruises, which had been done previously. This specific part is on NCL and not the ship. As I mentioned before, my family and I have taken at least 6 other cruises on both NCL and other lines, this is the worst yet. If you are set to go on the Sun, I highly recommend recommend going on another ship. Read Less

We wanted a cruise experience and the Bahamas. We sadly were disappointed with Hurricane Dorian. We had travel insurance but our travel agent suggested we go cause NCL made no changes to the itinerary yet the night before. We decided to go and not cancel cause we expected at worst we would reroute to 3 other ports. One day was not enough notice to cancel everything we had set up to go even with Hurricane issues we expected we still have fun. Well 1 day in Mexico in Cozumel and a half day was nowhere near what we had in mind nor worth the cost we payed for Bahamas. Esp since My husband had been once with his parents as a teen. . The food was awful no selection for a picky eater. The specialty restaurants were lacking majorly. The buffets were edible if drunk. Same stuff daily almost, sadly not much choice. Not usually a drinker but between all the disappointments. Thankfully it was inclusive drinks....... The pool being closed 50% of time, hot tub packed and the streaming package I paid for not working after day one. I lost business not being able to use my phone and check in on work i lost a few big investors, the 10$ line was a joke. The excursion booking by phone app accidental, we couldn't get refunded. Guest services were no help anytime we went there. They didn't cancel our trip or give any info prior to boarding that we go to Cozumel... My husband had been there and I had no wish to go there, but we had boarded the boat and didn't get any info to were we reroute until another cruiser told us on the ship not even our itinerary told us till the next day. Very disappointed to say the least the have no offered any discount on a trip to the Bahamas or a partial refund! I know that Mexico is way cheaper to visit then the Bahamas and we didn't port 3 different places Nor did i even get to see the beach once. We did one excursion dolphin encounter, it was the only thing decent and we didn't receive our photos by email as we should've. They had switched our group with another's they couldn't find our photos, when tried to look and purchase them. They finally found them under a different groups number! We bought them and it was a week later I had to contact them to send them again. Overall we had a trip we will never forget and we hope to make it to the Bahamas when the poor island rebuilds. Not sure I will be going NCL We almost booked Disney even though, we don't have kids. They had 11 pools and 3 adult areas and pools. We may have at least got some swimming pool time and hot tub time while stuck on the boat for 6 days when supposed be 4 days. The nightmare getting home was another story very disappointed about the lack of updating and knowledge they never provided us during the chaos. The sun would've been fine had we ported 3 days where we planned. we could've dealt with the other issues, we had in general but honestly for our first cruise nothing went right! Room tenant was awesome remembered our names was very diligent and professional. The gift shop was pathetic and the Spa was overpriced for the deep tissue couples massage we received. I wasn't even sore afterwards as should be. Not impressed at all. We are smokers it was windy and raining off and on they only moved smoking down a level one time to keep the wind and rain less awful. We had a balcony and this was honestly the best part of the boat. However we were under the pool area, it was very loud as they picked the chairs up and sprayed the upper deck barley got any sleep! First time on a cruise and I was looking for something before end of August. Looked at different cruise lines and NCL gave me a lot more for my $$$. Loved the whole experienced and my kids (13 & 16) asked me to book it again, the same cruise! Staff was great, shows super entertaininig, the music, the comedian!! OMG i haven’t laugh so much in a long time. Food was great at all the different locations, but the Churrasqueria was even better. I didn’t do excursions with NCL, as their prices were a bit more from what you could get just by disembarking, so the i never used the credit the cruise gave us. I would do this again with NCL Sun as the experience we lived is something we will remember for ever! Thank you NCL staff, my sons enjoyed every moment of the cruise and my wife had the best Bday ever! Read Less

We live close to Port Canaveral and decided to take a weekend getaway with two other couples. All of us are regular cruisers and have been on just about every line out of, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades and Miami. Knowing that 3 day cruises are party boats, my expectations were not high. The service on this ship was great. My cabin steward took great care of us, bar service was terrific and all dining room staff were accommodating and efficient. It was an old ship, but updated nicely and clean. Private island has a spa and when you get services you get a wonderful and healthy Buffett, free drinks and private beach access with the use of free floats. I cannot say enough about what a great day we had at the private club on the island. Didn’t do the general population on the island, but people on the tenders said that was great too. Entertainment was adequate, nothing special, but enjoyable. Cruise director and staff were friendly. Bar staff and service was great at all he bars and wait staff by the pool was plentiful. Now for the issues: I like to play blackjack. Lowest table limit was $15. I thought that was exorbitant. Princess, Celebrity, RCCL and Carnival all have 5, 6 or 10 dollar tables. Also the slot machines were not any of the newer games that are on the other ships. When I asked about lowering the limits the person who came to chat with me was arrogant, condescending and basically said tough. Another thing the smoke in the casino was horrendous. Another issue is the sports bar. They have many televisions, but only one channel. I wanted to watch a football game that was on, but was told they only get 1 channel. Obviously, this has been an ongoing issue for fans. The bartender was very sweet and basically just referred me to guest services. He did not want to say much, but I got the impression Norwegian doesn’t want to pay for the package that includes the sports channel. Let’s talk food. Dining room was good, but everything was very salty. Only ate at the Buffett twice and was not impressed. Didn’t eat most of my meal. Last issue I had were with the public restrooms. They were clean, but all had a horrible odor. Let me be clear, I had fun, but the above issues were enough to say, I probably will use other lines for future weekend cruises. Read Less

Older ship but well appointed. Some nicer underused areas to escape from crowds. Took our 7 month old and 7 year old. We had a mini suite with balcony which was good for us and 2 kids, the bigger bathroom helped. Like how they made drinks available since it was all inclusive, not big lines to get a drink. Included dining felt good compared to other cruise lines. Most the staff were very nice and prompt. Thought the bar staff was the best overall. Few things I didn't like .. steakhouse quality/taste wasn't good compared to specialty dining in other lines. The guppies playroom was dirty and people were walking with dirty shoes on the floor mat/play area for them. We wouldn't let our baby down to play in there. Buffet always seemed crowded and hard to find a seat without being blasted by hot air. Would cruise on NCL again. Read Less

I got off the Norwegian Sun today after a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas with my mom. Are you ready for this tale? After boarding on the first day, nothing was open and the rooms weren't ready. When we went to the room, we were given a single bed even though we booked a double beds. We feared my mother's luggage was lost, since it was several hours without it at the room. I spoke with another guest who said that his luggage was put on the wrong ship. We tried to call our room attendant "Brianna", but the number was a busy signal. We called Guest Services, but the number was also busy. The luggage finally arrived around 9 PM while we were eating what tasted like frozen food or bad airplane food in the main dining hall. We then met our real room attendant who explained that the number didn't work because "she went home today on vacation." Not sure why they couldn't replace the card with the correct attendant's name and number? Shortly after eating/drinking on the ship, we would get horrible cramps. We did not know the cause until after looking up the symptoms on the internet today (the cruise charged $35 per device each day for WiFi) that we had contracted THE NOROVIRUS! Why did we contract the Norovirus? "Washy Washy" was not everywhere on the ship and we watched the workers clean the tables without gloves and without disinfectant. The ship was dirty and we saw crumbs on the floor and on the tables everywhere. The tables were cleaned with wet rags and food everywhere was not bussed. So much so, that seagulls would have feasts on the deck outside on the questionable food no one seemed to enjoy. Comfortable sleep did not happen because we didn't have working AC the entire trip. We called maintenance the first night to fix the AC, but there still was no cold air circulating in our room. We would feel cold air while passing other guests' rooms and in other parts of the ship. The repair man explained that the coldest our room was allowed to get is 73 degrees and the ship utilizes "chilled recycled ocean water." However, 73 degrees would have been tolerable unlike the 80 degree room that we had. We were sweating laying on top of the covers every night tossing and turning. Everytime we reached out to Guest Services, a person who could not understand English very well would get confused and tell us everything was fine. To make matters worse, our toliet would not flush and the sink constantly made a loud gurgling sound. The toliet was fixed a total of 4 times and the AC was "fixed" about the same amount if not more. The bathroom smelled of rank sewage, so we had to constantly spray hair spray in there to not gag every time we had to enter. The shower was also repaired twice, since only scalding hot water came out. We spoke with 4 other guests that claimed their room FLOODED! The toliet and shower eventually worked on the last day of the trip, but the AC never worked. We are leaving the trip completely exausted (and sick). The entertainment on the ship was beyond cheesy and usually involved the ship begging for more money. The ship's shops were desperate money grabs, much like the $5.50 bottle of Aquafina placed in our room to "tempt" us. The food was subpar and every meal oredered was taking a chance. During one dinner, I ordered French Onion soup because I thought how can you mess that up? Much to my suprise, that was bad too. The soup tasted like only beef stock and had no flavors of onion, salt, or bouillon. The ship also kept trying to pass off certain foods as gourmet. For example, one appetizer on the menu was "cream cheese and crab stuffed wonton with a sweet chilli sauce". Isn't that called, "crab rangoon"? We noticed a lot of interesting menu items that we believed to be recycled leftovers from other meals like adding bacon to sauerkraut. We picked snorkeling/beach day for our excursion in Freeport, Bahamas which came be to around $150. When we arrived to get on the bus for the excursion, we were informed that the snorkeling was canceled due to weather. The ship did not inform us earlier of this and instead loaded up a tour bus full of guests whom we suspect were charged the full amount for a 15 minute shuttle to the beach. Instead, we went back to the ship and asked for a refund. We then caught a taxi which only came to $14 for both of us. The White Party/Glow Party was held from 10:30 PM-12:00 AM the night before a port of call was 7 AM. The party took place by the pool deck and it was raining. The workers were squeegeeing the deck and the DJ was trying to get the crowd to come out from hiding from the rain. After the rain stopped, the crowd came out to dance and consisted mainly of small children. The DJ played EDM music for a bit, then switched to explicit rap much to the horror of the parents in attendance. They had a twerk contest on the stage and parents were taking their children to leave. A woman with a see through dress and a thong on got in the splits and began dancing like a stripper on the stage for everyone to see, kids and adults alike. There were other people on stage dancing that kept it clean, but she had to be pulled off stage because she was showing her buttcrack/vagina. There looked to be children watching as young as 5-12 years old. The DJ was blasting Cardi B songs and asked the crowd of kids to sing along to the explicitly laced lyrics. I left after that, since I had no interest in twerking around little kids. Small things such as crew members not knowing guests' names, no towel animals, and no drinks being served by the beach chairs were also a disappointment. We cruised with NCL in 2015 and had a fantastic time, so we suspect there must have been a restructuring within management. The cruise reaked of budget cuts and corporate greed. We suspect that the workers were paid very little and we were told that they rarely get to go home to their families in their home countries. Sorry if this was too much to read, but I did not want to spare any of the details. I posted this on NCL's Facebook page, but it was taken down by the moderators (suprise). Read Less

You could smell it 2 floors down in the dining area. The staff on the ship were not educated on events and where to go many times we asked. We have cruises many times and this was probably the most disappointing cruise we have ever been on. Our cabin was nice and we enjoyed having a balcony but when we tried to sit out there the people in cabin 8051 were smoking. We were not told this ship allowed smoking or we would not have scheduled a cruise in this ship. The staff when we got off the ship in customs were very rude to everyone getting off of the ship. We will probably not cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

I've been sailing with Norwegian for many years. My first time on board the Sun. The cabin was excellent, the overall decor of the ship was very well done. However, unlike the alcohol the beer selection was very limited with basically domestic beer. The food in the buffet was not what I've experienced on the Epic. Overall, the selection was limited, tasteless and totally unappetizing. We decided not to dine at the dinning room but bought a dinning package which turned out to be a great choice. Their food and service by the staff was outstanding. Well worth the extra cost during the cruise. On another note, the nightly entertainment was very good from Broadway type shows to Comedy. The staff as usual very accommodating and professional. Our embarkation was a breeze on board within 30 minutes. I will continue to cruise with Norwegian but would rather sail the bigger ships in the future. Read Less

Beware of what you think you are paying for!! Most likely it is NOT SO!! So I chose this cruise being that I had the Forth of July week off from my job. This fit great in to my plans, and I didn't have to rush back to work on Tuesday...Embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth! That being said..... I didn't have big expectations for the ship, although the Norwegian Sun was refurbished in 2018 and the public rooms and cabins had the refreshed look, the feel of the ship was still old and out dated. Also, I wasn't aware that every passenger on the ship had the free drink package...so really, this is a "drunk" cruise. Beware! It felt like a half step up from a Carnival party cruise. On that note, one thing I was disappointed in was that there were no enrichment activities available during the day, such as classes or tastings, etc., that I have always enjoyed on other cruises. I believe that that this is due to the open bar policy, and Norwegian doesn't expect that a bunch of drunk cruisers would have the need for learning anything. They did have PLENY of BINGO though! yay :( I upgraded to a balcony cabin so that we could receive the "Take all" package offered to balcony guests. This is where I had the most problems with this cruise. BEWARE BEWARE!!! This offer included the top shelf drinks package, 100 minutes of WIFI and specialty dining for all nights of our cruise. There was also a $50 credit for a shore excursion for ONLY 1 passenger per cabin, but because most of the excursions cost a lot more than needed to be, we opted to not book one. The only package to be worth this upgrade was the drink package. We did enjoy top shelf alcohol (Grey Goose and Hendricks martinis, and a very nice bottle of champagne at dinner. at no additional charge!) very enjoyable! As far as the specialty dining, I made reservations for the Cagney's steak house the first night, followed by the Italian restaurant the 2nd night, and the French place on the 3rd night. After reserving these dining options, I was prompted to add them to a shopping cart, and then 'check out'. So, if you don't have the dining package like I was offered, you would see the cost of the restaurants in your cart, and have the option to pay the upgrade as these specialty places are not included in the included cost of the cruise. In my cart, however, the extra cost for my reservations came out $0.00, so no extra charge for the 3 nights dinners. Or so I thought! On the first night we had an outstanding dinner at Cagney's complete with a fantastic bottle of wine and absolutely exceptional service from our waitress Rhoda! We couldn't wait for the next specialty dinner. However, When we arrived for our table the next night at the Italian restaurant, we were informed that we had been entitled to 1 specialty dining experience for the length of the cruise and we had used that the last night, and it would cost us each $40 additional to eat there. I brought my printed payment proof document down the customer service desk to find out what was up and was told that according to my cruise card we were only assigned 1 specialty experience. I then showed the annoyed rep that I had made the 3 reservations and that the payment came out to $0. This is where I really feel that Norwegian has lost my business forever...back and forth the reps went with each other for over 20 minutes, only to conclude that they didn't feel that we had the bookings according to the "Ultimate Dining Package" that I had upgraded to receive, only reservations. Anyway, I got the same response as many other passengers I had talked to, that they would send a message to the Miami headquarters, and hopefully receive a response the next day, or later. This made me really confused as I asked how was that going allow me to eat at the specialty restaurants without having to pay for them as my package entitled me to? Needless to say, we never heard one word from customer service, or from the Miami office since and it left me with a very disappointed feeling overall for the cruise experience! Also, the "free" WIFI was useless, as neither me nor my roommate was ever able to get a web page on our phones or my tablet...just kept loading, while using up the free minutes! Very inadequate system. In conclusion, I know that this is a way too long review, but I am just trying to warn folks to beware of the so called 'free perks', as they may not be as expected. This cruise cost us over $800. each for 3 nights. I feel that we could have saved a lot by booking on Carnival for a similar, but much cheaper experience! Thanks for listening. Read Less

We have been on several cruises from Carnival, Royal Carribean, and Disney Cruise Line. We have spent as little as $200 to as much as $1,000 per person on cruises. Before leaving we made sure we dotted all our “I’s” and crossed all of our “t’s” as far as passport and visas go. My husband has dual citizenship (Brazilian, and American) and his American passport was expired so we made sure that we could leave the country and come back with his Brazilian passport and naturalization certificate. We called a total of six times to the port and NCL to make sure we were good to cruise with those documents. Both the port of Canaveral and NCL customer services assured us that we were good to go with those documents. On May 20th we were ready to go (so we thought)…. We arrived at the port and the lady that was taking care of us seemed a little confused. Her name was Miranda. She was a very sweet lady however didn’t really know how to input our information etc… She asked a very nice lady (I’m assuming a manager) and the lady said our documents were fine etc…. Miranda continued to be confused as she had other questions so another manager by the name of David Johnson came to us and immediately urged us to go to the managers desk. We gladly went assuming that he would help us and expedite our check in. We reach the managers desk and another lady by the name of Kathleen Bianchi kept asking us if we could go home and get his “American passport”. We explained that it was expired and that we called six times to make sure we could travel with the Brazilian passport blah blah blah….. She insisted on us giving her names of people that we spoke to which we didn’t have. In the mean time Mr. David made copies of all of our paperwork and asked me bluntly, “Mam, I need to know if you will be boarding today without your husband?”. I was in shock!!!! I didn’t even know that it was a possibility that my husband couldn’t get on the boat. They NEVER apologized and acted in any way sorry for what was happening to us. There were NO lamentable feelings from them AT ALL…. We remained calm and very politely asked them to please check with immigration because we knew that we were ok to travel to Cuba with his Brazilian passport. Mr. David said it wasn’t “his job” to make sure of anything. It was “our” duty to ensure we had the appropriate paperwork. In the meantime, I advised my husband to call the duty officer at “custom and border patrol” (located downstairs from where we were). We called and spoke to officer Dusan who assured us that we were good to travel with the documents we had. He even advised us to ask Mr. David to look up the website page where it specifies the necessary documents. Again Mr. David refused. At this point Im done. Im thinking we’re not going to board and we should have just cancelled our cruise. My husband saw the young manager that initially helped us going to the bathroom. He ran to wait for her outside the ladies bathroom so that when she came out he explained our situation. She quickly spoke with Kathleen (whom at this point felt she could do something to help us) both ladies went downstairs and within FIVE minutes came back with the okay for us to board. O.K…… at this point, 3 hours later, I am exhausted, but relieved! Now it was time to enjoy our very much-needed vacation. We purchased our cruise for $1,546.18 (for two). We had done a Disney cruise a couple months prior for about the same price. I mention that because we expected this to be just as nice as the Disney Cruise. To our dismay…. It WASN’T!!!! We went to customer service every single day asking for the gift that our travel agent bought us and they denied the gift. Customer service kept saying the gift was never purchased and we needed proof. Unfortunately we didn’t snap a picture of the “proof” so we never received our gift. NO biggie….. Then, we purchased the water bottle package on our second day of the cruise. We only received it on the last day of our cruise. Everyday, I would walk to the bar and remind them that we didn’t get our water bottles and they kept saying it was on the way but we only got it the last day. When we looked up our cruise there was a deal going on that we had an option to receive one out of five perks for free. Since this was an open bar cruise, we decided to opt for free wifi. Again, customer service looked me in the eye and said we were not eligible for the free perk since we paid the cheapest rate for our cruise. Cheapest rate??? Really???? I didn’t think that almost $800 per person was the cheapest rate for a cruise. Oh…. Since this was an open bar cruise the service at the bar was horrible to say the least. I wont even get into those details. Food was “okay”… hit or miss. I was given a butter knife to cut through a steak that was super chewy and inedible. Server never checked back after food was served. Buffet food was disgusting. We ate at the buffet just once and couldn’t even go back because it was gross. I NEVER fill out surveys, I NEVER give bad reviews… I just don’t have the time to do it. However, the rollercoaster of feelings that occurred before we even boarded was so disheartening that I couldn’t let this go without saying something. It’s interesting that in the end, Kathleen (one of the managers) said this to us, “you know, in hindsight, I regret not taking 5 minutes of my time to go downstairs and gather the correct information for you guys”. That’s my whole point in writing this review! It would have all been a very different story if they had only taken 5 MINUTES of their “clock time” to make sure there was nothing that could have been done for us. We are hard working middle class people that was looking forward to a little getaway, and without any regards for us, NCL was quick to deny our cruise and never even offered any remuneration of any kind. For the reasons stated above, I would NEVER suggest anyone getting on the Norwegian cruise line…. EVER….. and I am writing this in hope that this never happens to anyone else. If we had “given up” we would have been out of luck. We would not have boarded and we would have lost our money. Read Less

We were extremely disappointed in the 2 main restaurants and the buffet, the food was terrible, the service was o.k. at best. At the Four Seasons and Seven Seas dining rooms the food came out cold, overcooked, tough and the coffee was like mud, even dessert was just o.k.. At the buffet the lines were long and the food was not up to the standard we have come to expect on a cruise. The cabin was nice and everywhere else, pub, bars night life was all fun, with good food and drink. We spent one day by the pool and the service was above and beyond what we expected. We also had the opportunity to go to two of the specialty restaurants (Mexican and French) and they were exceptional, the food was great and so was the service, the staff treated us like royalty. Diagnosed with Leukemia so figured I should check off some bucket list items quickly, always wanted to see Cuba, the Bahamas and Miami and figured this would knock out them in one shot. That being said, Cuba was beautiful but could've used more time there. Miami was nice, a lot to see and do. The Bahamas, well, not so great. Come to find out it was owned by Norwegian and like the cruise itself, not great! Sad thing was we paid so much for the trip and was seriously let down. The cruise itself seemed to go smooth and the drinks were good although a little slow at times. We paid for the premium package, top shelf alcohol/food but as I said before the drinks were fine but the food was not so and sadly enough, I had to spend nearly an hour of our vacation at the service desk straightening out all the food and alcohol charges they padded my bill with. WHAT?? Thank goodness an experienced cruiser tipped my wife and I off to that problem or we'd have to deal with that at checkout which was chaotic. To add, we went with friends who also stated they had similar issues? Anyhow, I prefer to think that the cup is always half full and not half empty and may e if things go well with my treatments I'll try it again. Just my two cents! God bless y'all and stay positive!! This is our first NCL cruise. We traveled with 2 other couples and this is our first time visiting S. America. Even though it is a small cruise ship, the cabins are much more spacious than the other bigger cruise ships we have sailed before. Entertainment is pretty good overall. We find the excursions over priced (e.g. charging us$300 for a 3 hr. trip to see penguins) and did our own thing for most stops. The food in the main dinning is just average and the buffet offers pretty much the same food everyday. There are 2 sections for oriental style noodles, one fried and the other with soup. I have to say the cooks have no experience in Chinese culinary. The noodles are hard and dry and the soup tasteless. The Indian dishes only offer the same vegetarian curry for the whole 2 weeks. We did enjoy the scenery overall, especially while sailing through the Beagle Channel. In Santiago, we toured the city and also Valparaiso on our own. In Buenos Aires, we booked a tour to the Iguazu Falls. Read Less

Wanted to see S America, a Gold Member and travel with 4 other couples 5th cruise! NCL this was the worst cruise, our toilet would not flush on demand, button pushed nothing ... middle of night it flushed reported numerous times! Restroom stall doors held on with electrical wire ties(casino men's room). Mens room at The Windjammer had a hole in the wall covered by cardboard and duct tape. Every other NCL cruise we have been on while in port they cleaned the windows not on the Sun! Water spots on most of our pictures. The windows were either dirty or there were numerous window fogged from loss of vacuum! We made reservations for ten in different resteraunts and many times they sitted us at different tables when there were large settings available and were not used while we were there! Shame on NCL! We are looking to cruise Australia and New Zealand later this year and we( all 5 couples) are not sure we will chose NCL this time! One bright spot was Freddie the Bartender at the Champayne Bar! The ship is very clean and livable. We enjoyed the regular dining room which had very good food. The only exception was the lack of lamb chops, lobster or crab which you had to get in the specialty dining restaurants for extra money. I also sorely missed having any salmon for breakfast. The protein for breakfast was eggs plus unhealthy bacon, sausages, etc. Service was exceptional, consistently. Our room 8039 was very clean with plenty of storage. Ports were very interesting though we had to skip Puerto Arenas due to strong winds. During the sea days we enjoyed card playing with friends and reading in the lounges. Strong negative: In cold weather, there is not enough seating in the buffet for lunch or breakfast. You stand around with your food, hovering around people waiting for them to leave because the outdoor seating is too cold to use. We ended up going to the dining room which is open only 90 minutes for lunch so you have to time it carefully. Similarly, the ship does not have enough seats in the lounges for people when the weather is cold as all outdoor seating is too uncomfortable. Some people brought their books to the chapel to find seats. The library has only two chairs which is so unsatisfactory. Clearly this ship is meant for warm weather cruising. Shopping is limited on board. There is much expensive jewelry, very cheap jewelry, a penguin themed store (really?) and much makeup/perfume. The ship is small so they do the best they can. We were disappointed there were no lectures on each port which would have been wonderful on sea days. Read Less

The most important for us was the itinerary. This was our first time sailing to South America. We enjoyed all the new ports on the way. The 3 tours which we took with NCL were very interesting and informative. This was also the first time we cruised with NCL and the experience was very good. I liked the ship and the many activities. There was a lot to choose from and everyone could find something for themselves. I enjoyed most the special evening production shows and the music at the bars. The food was very good. We eat breakfasts and lunches in the Garden Cafe; there were many choices and the staff was very kind and attentive. I was amazed how quickly the empty dishes were taken away and the tables cleaned. In the evenings we were dining in the both main restaurants. The service was good and we were very happy with the food, specially with the fish dishes. (the flounder was excellent) Also deserts were amazing. Overall my husband and I enjoyed the cruise very much and had a great experience with NCL. Read Less

We chose this trip because it included the Panama Canal, which was a very interesting experience. First time on a Norwegian cruise ship (total of 6 cruises). The service level in the buffet restaurants was poor, staff was courteous but very slow in cleaning the tables. Overall the food was good. The cabin staff were not exactly rude but not very friendly either. Our cabin was below the smoking area in the pool deck, so every time someone pulled up a chair, lounge or ash tray, you could hear the noise inside our cabin. Needless to say that it was impossible to take a nap at any time, the noise started around 3am. The situation was repeatedly informed to customer service, the Housekeeping Supervisor Radel came to the cabin and personally heard the noise, said he was going to look into the matter but we never heard from him again. On the 9th day Aurie Quintana informed that if we wished she change our cabin but we didn't accept because that meant packing everything again and trip was for 13 days. I consider that maybe if they put artificial grass in the area that might be a solution. To make matters worse a fly fell into my husbands wine in the Four Season Rest. while we were dining. I was told this is a problem in some ports, but I understand that something should be made to prevent this disgusting situation. For some reason which I do not understand the alcohol package was outrageous, $1500 00 for 1 person, while other people which I spoke with paid $170.00. Before the trip I called customer service to clarify this situation and the lady who took the call in a very rude manner informed me that I should call the agency where I bought the cruise because they were getting a commission. It wasn't until I told her that she represented Norwegian that she reluctantly gave me the information I needed. Nonetheless , I have to point out that the shows and attractions were very good, in particular the duo called Ikebana, a Latin couple who had a good variety of latin music. I would also like to point out the excellent and courteous service received from I Made Yase, who not only served our table at the Four Season Rest., but also served us anywhere in the ship where he worked during the day. Wanted to see Panama Canal and this cruise was just perfect. The Panama canal was just awesome. Swimming with the dolphins was just the best time. Overall this was the best cruise I have taken. The crew were very helpful. The cabin was kept clean and inviting. Food was fabulous. Loved the Bistro. Friendly people. Would chose NCL for all my cruising vacation. I traveled with many friends and never had a problem being seated in restaurants. The food served was hot and delicious. Only went to one show and it was great. Very talented staff. You can sense how the staff likes there jobs as they were happy and helpful Will only cruise Norwegian in the future. I've been to Bermuda and Hawaii a number of times and will always use Norwegian. Always have great excursions. Overall I loved this cruise. I got to see may great places, one of which was the Panama Canal in a ferry. What a wonderful way to see the workings of the canal close up. We are an active couple in our mid 40’s and this was our first cruise (and I’m pretty sure it will be the last one), which turned out to be a quite disappointing experience for us. THE PRICE: We were unpleasantly surprised by the additional “service fee” (added more than $200 to our cruise price) which NCL hit us with, when we got onboard. We found out about that fee on the last day at sea – our credit card was being charged the $200 without our knowledge. We booked our NCL cruise via Orbitz and paid everything in full (incl. all the taxes and fees) and there was absolutely no mention about any additional “service” fees that will be charged to our credit card when we sail. The NCL customer service rep. explains this fee as “mandatory gratuities”? I won’t mind giving gratuities, but if this is a legit fee, it should be added along with all other fees when people are booking. Therefore, they’ll know the real price of their cruise and base their choice of cruise on that. When you book a cruise, they present you with a really attractive price. Then, with all taxes, fees, and gratitude’s, the price doubles. Add to that “onboard internet” ($30 per day), “Shore Excursions” (stating from $100 per person for 3-4 hour excursion ), overpriced drinks, soda, water…plus 20% gratitude charged for everything you buy on board….. and your vacation may turn into a really expensive one. This is called “Deceptive pricing” THE PORTS: The first time “cruisers” should know that when a cruise line advertises that you will visit specific countries/ports, it may NOT be what you think. Usually they will disembark you on their own, small “private island”, far from the main land or any cities, and you will be stuck with the same routine: stay on an overcrowded beach, buy drinks, eat the same “cruise line” food, etc.… The only way to see some of that country is to sign up for a shore excursion, but the prices are quite high -usually $100 and up per person. THE CRUISE: It turns out NCL can cancel or change (with or without any reason) the ports and your travel itinerary, with no compensation of any kind. We were supposed to visit The Bahamas, Cuba, Belize and Mexico. But, on the 5th day of our cruise, half of a mile from the port of Harvest Caye, Belize, they canceled the day at Belize due “strong wind” ? It was a beautiful sunny day and the wind completely stopped 30 minutes after the ship turned back from the port, but I guess it was too much trouble for the captain to make a second attempt. Instead of visiting Belize (which along with Cuba was the main reason to get on the 7 day cruise) we spent another boring “day at sea”, with nothing else to do but lay around the overcrowded pool . When we asked the customer service rep for some sort of compensation (partial refund, free drinks for that day…anything) they said there won’t be any compensation, but they will return our Belize “port fee” of $39??? We would never get on a 7 days cruise, if we knew that we would be spending 4 boring days at the sea! THE ONBOARD ENTERTAINMENT: 90% of the NCL onboard entertainment is trying to sell you something – from questionable quality art (mostly lithographs and serigraphs) to “onboard lottery” tickets, shore excursions, watches and jewelry. The only decent form of entertainment was the 45 min evening variety show (which was really good). The median age of the people on our cruise was about 65-70 years. I guess this is the age group that still finds a cruise vacation attractive. If you are younger, more active people – a cruise may not be the best way to spend your vacation. Read Less

Good way to visit Cuba in a day. Things were promised in the advertisement that I did not receive and guest services treated me so bad that I will never cruise this ship again. Promised to get back to me to resolve the issue and never did. I went to them on the first day of my cruise and never heard back from them other than to call my roo to clarify what i took issue with. Had it not been for my waiter Vishall Rodrugues and my cabin steward Putu Giri, I would have rated the cruise much lower. Guest services need to take training in customer service from these two gentlemen. Cuba was beautiful and the shore excursion desk was outstanding. Room was nice but my shower was tiny (I have been on a lot of cruises and this was the smallest shower ever). Not very much in the way of entertainment on the at sea days. Read Less

We spent two nights in South Beach, Miami, before boarding the cruise. Really enjoyed unwinding and beach time. There were just 2 of us on this trip. Both over 45. The embarkation process was simple and easy, no delays. Our luggage was delivered to our stateroom well before dinner that evening. We were on the 10th deck, in a balcony room. The room was as expected, very nice, with plenty of room. Everything was clean and satisfactory. Our steward was superb and always there to answer questions for us. We did specialty dining for three nights. We loved the Italian and French restaurants, definitely would do them again. The Brazilian Steakhouse had a great salad bar but the rest of the meal was disappointing. We would skip it next time and opt for French or Italian. On future cruises we will opt for specialty dining as much as possible. the three nights we dined in the main dining room were blah, service was blah, food portions were skimpy, meat cuts were sub-prime. The house entertainment was not really that good, but the comedians were very good. The bands that performed were awesome. The piano man and the guitar guy that performed in the piano bar were excellent! The wait staff in our favorite bar (Windjammer) were absolutely amazing! We had to skip the Bahamas port due to weather. Communication on that could have been better. Our excursions in Havana, Cuba (Cigar Factory/Rum Factory-Exclusive); Harvest Caye, Belize (Great Barrier Reef Snorkel) and Costa Maya, Mexico (Dune Buggy Beach) were all amazing with wonderful hosts. We would do each one of these again. Read Less

To go to Cuba. Two of the things that are disappointing on Norwegian cruise ships are the quality of their entertainment and food. I have cruised on Norwegian at least 10 times and noticed each year the down turn in their entertainment and food. They have their own group of entertainers that they use almost entirely. So if you don’t mind watching the same individuals several nights, then it might be ok. Also this last cruise we ate 4 times in the specialty restaurants and the food was no better than the buffet. One evening in the French restaurant I had swordfish and it was so dry. The only restaurant that had decent food was Cagneys steak house. Even thoe we are platinum members I am searching other cruise line reviews. I have been told that Royale Caribbean has wonderful food as well as Holland America. We also had to be moved from are cabin due to disturbing noise coming from the engine room, and wet floor in our room. Read Less

Our cabin was great: perfect location and size, and excellent Steward. We loved the ports: Key West, Havana, Harvest Caye, and Costa Maya. The excursions we picked in all the ports were great and enjoyable, except Key West where we chose to just tour on a our own. We loved our time in Havana and want to return there to see more. I searched cruise to Cuba- One other choice is 4 days cruise includes overnight stay in Cuba but flying down from NY to Miami for 4 days cruise seems too short Cuba, I choose this cruise for main port Cuba which is the highlight of this cruise ... really wishes overnight stay in Cuba available so we can experience more of the country’s economic and cultural. First port supposedly Bahamas got switched last minute to KeyWest due to the weather 2nd Cuba - as I mentioned above 3rd Belize - small island Not much to do ... kind of waste of time to leave the ship and pay to $20.00 take another very small boat to the mainland rent a golf cart $25.00 drive around for couple of hours can’t get to the beach ... all beaches are block from the road due own by Private property/resorts , you do better just stay on NCL private island water park. 4th- Costa Maya- another short stays...did enjoy the glass boat and snorkeling, some went to Diving...if this is for you than is worth the trip Overall on the cruise ship- Service was great...from CustomerService, Food and beverage, house keeping very friendly always with a brilliant smiles. Entertainment - cruise standard but smaller production... still putting together nice shows and games. Late evenings bar and lounge music was nice and cozy, worthy to mention again the service was wonderful after the first night the waiter were able to call out our names the next night. Read Less
