NCL Penny Pinching

Review for Norwegian Sun to Europe - British Isles & Western

User Avatar

First, the positives: Norwegian Sun is a pleasant enough ship with mainly, very nice, helpful crew. We had been on two previous cruises with NCL so we thought we knew what to expect, although we were not aware that the ship had been repaired a few months earlier, having hit an iceberg in Alaska. Now, the negatives: NCL seem to have a new policy of penny-pinching. Terrible coffee and very ...

Quite a letdown from previous 6 AK cruises done ove the last 20 years aboard NCL ships

Nine days, recently refurbed vessel, nice itinerary- What could go wrong? Mass confusion regarding Canadian? boarding requirements, slow speed (fuel savings?) caused most of port calls to be shortened, tendered at Juneau, with no ships at docks until we were leaving, and no port visit off the ship at Victoria. Docked at Ward Cove, a tourist shop barn 25 mi. from Ketchikan, instead of downtown ...

We went on the 11 day cruise for a get away after our 32 year old daughter was killed. The Sun crew on the Sun went above and beyond to make our trip wonderful. The food and our room were great. Both specialty and the Garden Cafe. Entertainment was Good. The first two ports we went to Icy Point and Skagway were great! Glacier Bay was beautiful, the Rangers that came on board were very ...

Very Satisfying Cruise

Review for Norwegian Sun to Caribbean - Western

Even with the Carona scare the embarkation was quick. And debarkation even quicker. The food was good overall, my only negative would be the buffet. They have super reduced the variety at the buffet. The food at the buffet was ok, but not something that I would get excited about. The main dining rooms were good. I like the European speed of eating a meal (one and a half to two hours). It ...

One of my favourite cruises

This was my 7th cruise and my first time on NCL. I have to say I was very impressed. Upon reading the previous reviews, I was nervous about the food but the quality exceeded my expectations. The buffet, dinning room, and sports bar were really good. We never had to wait in line at the buffet which was nice. The ship was renovated and had a newer look. Although, it is small. I actually enjoyed it ...

Just OK Anniversary Cruise

Review for Norwegian Sun to Caribbean - Western

We wanted a short cruise on a smaller ship to celebrate our 50th anniversary of meeting (not wedding), which happened on Valentine's Day, 1970. The Sun appeared to fit the bill, being much smaller than our previous ship, Harmony of the Seas. We were pleased with some things, while others were just -- meh. A breakdown is as follows: Embarkation: A- The Sun was the only ship at Port ...

On Deck 6 & 12 there are many, many inaugural port plaques on the wall. An impressive display that says this ship has-been-there-done-that. Built in 2001 it's age shows here and there but the 2018 refurbishment has definately invigorated the beauty, comfort and cruising experience aboard this ship...As veteran cruisers we've come to anticipate and expect bells & whistles, spacious contemporary ...

Fun and relaxing at an astonishing low price

We are not at all brand loyal in cruising. Internet search engines and fate decide where and when we cruise. We are very old fashioned though- ballroom dancing, libraries and walk around promenade decks are a huge draw. Low prices are important for me – and I am fine with an ocean view cabin (for the record DW prefers a balcony). The idea is if the price is low enough we can go more often. ...

Our Third Cruise on NCL: Very Disappointing

Review for Norwegian Sun to Caribbean - Western

We have always loved Norwegian Cruise Lines and its super friendly/entertaining atmosphere and staff before this last cruise we just took in December on the Norwegian Sun. However, after this cruise my family and I just took we were all highly disappointed with our cruising experience. While there were some positive aspects of our vacation, such as the photography services and the friendly staff ...

The ship was very clean and I appreciate the crew manning the buffets to spray every single person's hands with sanitizer. People are gross and I'm positive the majority of them had no intention of washing their hands before handling serving utensils that a thousand other people would need to use too. There were even hand washing stations in the buffet areas and I never witnessed anyone, other ...
