These mid-ship staterooms can accommodate up to five guests, with two lower beds that convert into a queen-size bed and additional bedding to accommodate three more. Also includes a sitting area and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open to a private balcony. Because these are mid-ship staterooms, you'll have easy access to everything on board.
Cabin was good and surprising efficient. Cabin steward was great, very attentive. Easy to store 3 suitcases under the bed. Balcony view was unobstructed and location of cabin was quite and away from hallway noises. Shower very small and water temperature varied greatly while taking a shower. Hair dryer was a cruise line entertainment joke, should I say anymore?. Service staff had plenty of smiles and made you feel special. Read entire member review >>
surprisingly enough room due to storage and shelving, it allows you to move around without much out in view. Balcony was great and convenient to elevators and stairs for food on 11 and 12 Read entire member review >>

I am not saying our cabin steward was bad, however, we must have been last on his list to clean the cabin, a few times it was 2:30 in the afternoon before our cabin was cleaned, I feel this is NCL's problem as they do not have enough staff to take care of the cabins. I don't feel this review covers what I would like to say. The cleanliness was very poor, they would take the dishes off the tables in the lounge, buffet, smoking areas but never washed the tables down, I went to a table in the smoking area early in the morning where someone had spilled coffee, that stain was still there a 9 PM that night. I had to ask them to wipe my table before I would eat there Read entire member review >>
Clean with a great ocean view. Even though it says it fits 5 don't try to sleep more than 3. Bathroom was a tiny bit bigger tan most but had the same shower curtain that made the floor wet.
Beds were comfy with the newish sani-type method of making up the linens. Temperature was easy to control after we called maintenance They sent us a sweet plate of chocolate dipper strawberries and wine for our inconvenience.
We did not hear any noise from the hall nor other rooms. Nice and quiet. Read entire member review >>
The cabin was comfortable for the two of us and was clean. We moved the small desk chair and rolled our luggage under the desk and we had plenty of room to move about. The room was not as worn as we had expected on an older ship, so we were satisfied with the furnishings and décor. The mattress was comfortable and the room was quiet so we slept well. Although the bathroom was small, it was adequate for a seven day cruise. However, the bathroom did smell like urine. I wiped down everything with Lysol wipes several times and that seemed to help, but then the odor would come back. Since we didn't spend a lot of time in the bathroom, we just ignored it. The shower curtain tried to wrap around us when we took a shower, but we came prepared for that with a few heavy magnets which we put on the bottom of the shower curtain. Problem solved! The cabin was what we expected. It wasn't any bigger than other cruise cabins we have had in the past. It did have a lot of storage room, which was great. Shelves, cubbies, and a real big closet. Stored 3 big suitcases under the bed with no problem. We never heard our neighbors unless we were out on the balcony. Not a lot of plugs, so I would recommend adapters or extension cords. Very nice cabin. Lots of space. Great location. Not far back to the aft stairs for food and entertainment. Ideal cabin if you suffer from motion sickness. Very quiet cabin compared to other cabins on other cruise lines. Some problem with wind noise but that has to do with wind direction and wild seas around the cape. Once you were in normal conditions it was fine. We did have a water leak at 2 am but no big deal. TV channels ok but I enjoyed the sports channel. Read entire member review >>
Mid ship balcony – deck 9. Comfortable bed, spacious and kept really clean and well serviced by our cabin steward. Never had to ask for anything more than the first time and the cabin was always ready by the time we went back to it. Plenty of storage space and even the bathroom was a bit more spacious than other NCL ships we’ve been on. Very quiet cabin. Read entire member review >>
Nice balcony cabin on the starboard side of deck 9. Only problem was a weak catch on the closet door so that the few rough days we had, the doors would swing open. Our towel figure acted as a doorstop those days.
Terrific cabin steward Roberto, always cheerful and helpful. Read entire member review >>
The cabin on the port side had few times that port activities required us to close our drapes. But most of the sites on the East to West South America cruise were on the starboard side so we had to go to the Observation Lounge or such for views.
The cabin was smaller than our previous HAL experience. Storage worked Luggage under the bed. Refrigerator did not work to cool. But our steward Clint kept us supplied with ice for drinks. Ou rlocation near 8 mid ship elevators was great We avoided the congestion of the four aft elevators for shows and dining. Amenities were few. no fresh fruit, no hair conditioner. The hand soap dispenser ran out of its nice soap. we had adequate 120 v to recharge our iphones and cameras. Shower was small and tight. Grab bar made it possible to stay in the shower and turn. Laundry could not dry in the small damp bathroom bad weather made it hard at times to dry laundry in the cabin. Outdoor chairs worked best for drying.
The balcony was private with no one visible or heard except occasional scraping chairs. No smoke came into our cabin or balcony from smokers near by. Our steward provide prompt service. Our evening towel animals were pleasant NCL gave each bed/guest their own daily schedule in the evening which is better than other lines. Read entire member review >>

Cabin was fine if a little cramped as it was very narrow, very tight to get past the first corner of the bed about a foot of space. Bed was very comfortable. The only real problem was the noise from the baskeball court Read entire member review >>
The balcony cabins are a little larger on this ship I believe. Plenty of room with a coffee pot and mini-bar. Service was good but we had to wait a few times for him and find something else to do while he finished up/or turned down. Read entire member review >>
We had 2 twin beds for my mother and I which made it a little tight getting around the end of one bed but other than that the rooms are well laid out for the space they have. Lots of drawers and closet space to unpack your suitcases and store them under the bed. Our cabin steward was very attentive helping us with anything we needed and it was fun coming back to our room every night to find the newest towel animal waiting for us on our bed! Our cabin was fine. The bed was comfortable and the entire compartment was very clean. We received excellent service. Would recommend a balcony for anyone going on an Alaska cruise. Read entire member review >>
There was a problem with the cabin immediately noticeable when we entered. A phone call to the relevant staff had the problem solved in a satisfactory manner.
Twice we had the request to 'make up our room' in the key slot on the door, but it was not made up by the time we returned - we had to wait. One of those times was the evening before disembarkation - we still had to pack and we faced a 24 hr+ journey home the next day, so wanted to get back early, get packed and get some rest. On returning to the cabin our attendant informed me that he hadn't reached our cabin yet. I told him to forget about it as we needed to pack and rest. We assumed that when we put the notice in the door, it would get priority. Disappointed with this. Read entire member review >>
The cabin was very adequate with plenty of storage space for everything you bring along. The balcony was fantastic and we will never cruise without one. We had a queen size bed and a small sitting area with a small somewhat worn, couch. The bathroom and shower are smaller than at home but you're on a ship and should expect that. The convenience of our room to the major areas of the ship, (dining, entertainment) was another plus. The room was very clean and we were taken care of very nicely by our steward Felix. Excellent room. Read entire member review >>

Our Balcony cabin #0218 on deck 10 starboard side was a great location, just 1 flight to the pool deck and Garden café. Our room was just below the spa facility on deck 11 that there was no nuisance noise at all. It was a very well organized balcony cabin; there were amount of storage spaces, big comfortable bed, and nice balcony with 2 chairs and a small table. However, we found very tiny shower stall in the cabin, even I could not bend myself to wash my feet. It was a practical shower booth but too tiny to do anything but just standing and get shower. We could store our luggage under the bed. Read entire member review >>
f you want to get your rest "DO NOT BOOK CABIN 0014"! This cabin is right under the weight room/treadmills. This room is open from 6 am - 11 pm and someone is always in there working out. The cabin (until the drama on the last night) was nice. Cabin size was fine, bathroom shower was a little small. Bed was very comfortable! Enough storage space for all that we brought. Only issue was on day 3 the drain to the shower backed up and water and black stuff came pouring out of the drain. We let service know and we left for our day. When we returned to the cabin later in the day we opened our cabin door and there was a huge blower on our room and the carpet was damp. We called service and they said yes the plumber fixed the drain and the blower was there to dry the carpet!! After several more calls they gave us a 100.00 OBC for our aggravation, why did it take several calls was my issue! Read entire member review >>
CABIN: Typical balcony cabin that definitely was larger than the same category cabin that we had on the Dawn. Slightly more width. The length of the cabin was longer which allowed for a full size desk area and a full length couch. However, this means that for that extra room the bathroom is very small. The shower might have been the smallest we have ever had. I am a small to medium size person and I found it difficult to manage. It is almost impossible to get anything out of the shower gel dispenser. We brought our own liquid hand soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Great storage space in the cabin and closet – so much that I had shelves to spare. Balcony had enough depth to be able to put your chair facing front and still have leg room. Our cabin had a great location, with access to the forward, mid-ship, and aft stairwells and lifts. The bath was small, which is not unusual on "main line" ships, with soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower, and a soap dispenser by the sink. There was adequate storage in closets, desk drawer, and bath for "Freestyle Cruising." We had two comfortable chairs and a small table on the balcony, and the very comfortable bed configured as a king-size. The sofa was adequate, but seat cushion was faded, and in need of "refreshing/refurbishing." Read entire member review >>
Our room was a decent size for a ship. We had the beds pushed together and though there was only a table on one side, I was able to use the "sofa bed" as a night stand. The "sofa" was very hard and I am glad we didn't have to sleep on it! The balcony had the usual 2 chairs and small table and we used it frequently. The bathroom was small but functional. Water pressure was good. Shampoo and shower gel were in dispensers in the shower and liquid soap was by the sink. Our cabin steward Cielo was friendly and always accommodated the few requests we had. We loved the location. It was easy to get to the forward or aft stairs/elevators and being on the 9th deck, it wasn't bad if we took the stairs and not the elevator whether we were going to up to Great Outdoors or down to main dining. The Cabin was larger than I envisioned, I had seen youtube videos but they don't do it justice. The bathroom is small, but larger than it appears. The balcony is also larger than I thought, plenty of romm to relax. We spent a lot of time there. Read entire member review >>
The cabin was near the Atrium elevators. It was very convenient to be so close to the elevators and the stairs. We were under the Spa area. We had plenty of storage space. We were able to put our suitcases under the bed. The seat area was plenty big with a small little table. We had a coffee maker and a fridge. The fridge was not very cold. The fridge was full of min-bar items, so we moved them to a drawer so we had room for our drinks. We put everything back at the end of the cruise. The balcony door stayed open, which was nice. The balcony was a nice size. When we came into port, or left port, we were always on the opposite of the dock. The bed was comfortable. The shower had a shampoo and soap dispenser. The shampoo was terrible, bring your own. We loved our room and will either book this room again, or it's sister on the other side of the boat. The only noise we heard was sometimes hearing others on the balcony. Read entire member review >>
Our cabin was very comfortable. We had a lot of storage space--we couldn't even fill it all up! There were plenty of hangers and drawer space for our clothes. The only thing that was a tad small was the shower stall, but since we've vacationed in Europe, we can cope with a small shower! The bed was very comfortable and we had no trouble falling asleep. We enjoyed having the balcony, which was furnished with 2 chairs and a small table. The location was great--not too far from an elevator, but not close enough to hear people getting on or off. Just two cabins away from us was a family with small children, but we never heard them while we were in our cabin. We actually never heard any of our neighbors, which is more than you can say for some hotels! Read entire member review >>
We loved our cabin, it was extremely quiet and a great location. There was more than enough storage for the both of us. The shower was tiny, but at least we had good water pressure. We stayed in Mid-Balcony 9049. The room was quite comfortable and we loved our balcony. Plenty of storage and closet space. The woodwork was lovely on the shelves and drawers. There was a safe that was easy to use. We never heard anything from the other rooms or smelled any smoke from any balcony. The bathroom shower was quite small but the water pressure was excellent. The small sofa was a bit hard but overall not bad. The Sun is showing it's age with some things a little worn out. Curtains had a few holes in them, mirror was aging in the bathroom on the edges etc. The bed and pillows were excellent. We were extremely comfortable in them. So overall, we were pleased but the room could use a shiny update. Read entire member review >>

We had balcony cabin #0001 on deck 10. It was the furthest forward cabin we could find that had the features that we wanted - highest deck with cabins above and below. The only down side was that the shower was the smallest in my experience. Read entire member review >>

We had originally booked an inside cabin, but the price kept dropping and dropping and we ended up getting a balcony room for an extra $100. The room had tons of storage, and the balcony window let in lots of sunshine (at 4 am when the sun rose!) Downsides are the shower curtain that attacked you when you took a shower. You had to leave the bathroom door open to ventilate the room (no fan), so every time someone moved past the door or a breeze from the balcony blew, the curtain clung to you. Annoying, but not life ending. The TV in the room was TINY and straight from 1990, but the programming was good.
Location wise, it was great. You definitely want to be aft on this ship, as that's where EVERYTHING is. We were woken up a few times at 3-4am by them moving furniture around above us, but that was it. The convenience of being so close to food and entertainment outweighed the noise. I think the ideal location would have been exactly where we were, but on the 9th floor instead. Read entire member review >>

Beautiful Baltics on the Sun
We are a couple who always chooses the itinerary first, and the ship second. We have sailed NCL on several occasions in the past, and have always been pleased with the value offered. NCL did not let us down with their Baltic Sun sailing.
Embarkation was very organized. We arrived at the port directly from an overnight flight from NY. We took a taxi to the port and waited for them to open at 10:30 a.m. We were on board by 11:30 a.m. We went directly to the MDR that was open for lunch, the Seven Seas, and had a nice quiet lunch. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather on most days of this cruise. We sent up to the sun deck, and took a little nap until 2:00 p.m. and our rooms were available.
Public Rooms and Cabins
We did not notice any wear and tear in any of the public rooms or our cabin. What I did notice is that the overall decor needs updating to bring some modern energy to the ship. We were in an inside cabin IA, on deck 9. The cabin was larger than any inside cabin and even some balcony cabins we have been in. Plenty of storage space. Deck 9 is the perfect deck if you want a quiet floor, nothing but cabins above and below you. The ship is laid out a little "weird" but it just something you need to get used to.
Fitness & Recreation
The ship had a nice sized workout room with modern equipment. The Sun also has the Promenade Deck which goes completely around the ship. If you circle the ship 3 1/3 times you have walked a mile. I loved doing that each day.
I enjoyed both the German Folk Dance show and the Russian Folk show that was offered on the ship. There was also a Russian language class and a Viking history class offered.
We ate at both MDRs. We found them almost identical. The food was tasty and plentiful. Every night you are presented with a new menu. The left side has new options and the right side has everyday options. With choices such as salmon, rib eye steak, roast chicken offered every night, you can't go wrong. The presentation of the food can be improved. Also, if you are looking for gourmet fine dining, then the NCL Sun is not for you. We never had trouble getting a table, and most tables had fabulous views through large picture windows. We did notice that 8:30 was a busy time in the MDRs. We ate at two specialty restaurants, and didn't think they were worth the extra fee. We enjoyed the MDRs just as well.
For lunch there are several options. I am not a fan of buffet dining because I am a teacher and it always reminds me of a school cafeteria. The Great Outdoors is a wonderful option for those who want a buffet for lunch or breakfast and want to enjoy the out doors. We enjoyed Moderno for lunch. They have a quick sandwich, pizza or pasta option here, and that is what we enjoy for lunch. Most days, weather permitting, the ship had a NCL BBQ for lunch or sail away also.
Breakfast can be eaten in the Seven Seas, which we enjoyed for a nice relaxing start to the day including French toast, my favorite, or hubby's favorite, Eggs Benedict. But with this itinerary, a visit to the buffet is in order. The breakfast buffet is like every cruise breakfast buffet I have seen. I did notice something called breakfast pizza in Moderno, but didn't try it. On the mornings we had to wake up extra early, we had room service deliver a continental breakfast including a full pot of coffee to the room. It was always delivered exactly on time.
If you enjoy an afternoon snack, there is always coffee and cake, or ice cream available at the Great Outdoors.
We thought the entertainment was very good. When you cruise, you expect a certain type of show, and all of the three shows we saw were very enjoyable. We also enjoyed the live music acts placed throughout the ship. The musicians on the Sun are all exceptional and very talented.
All of the service providers were helpful and friendly. Our room steward worked very hard to keep our room clean. We always had fresh towels, and turn down service. The waiters and waitresses always served with a smile. The running joke on the ship is the hostess in the Garden Cafe who sprays your hands with sanitizer. Washy Washy girl. Everybody loved her.
We used both NCL shore excursions with private tour companies. For St Pete, you need to research a private tour operator. Don't be afraid of what you read about Visas. The operators that are mentioned here on Cruise Critic will obtain a special Visa for you. You can see so much more, for less money by using a private tour. The NCL excursions that we did use, were well run and worth the money for those particular excursions if you did not want to DIY.
Value for Money
This is the number one reason we chose the NCL Sun for our Baltic cruise. If you research other cruise lines and compare, you will notice the large price difference. With the money saved, we spent it on the excursions and special meals in the ports. Don't forget the beautiful souvenirs in Russia.
The NCL Sun is a very nice ship and is perfect for the Baltic itinerary. Read entire member review >>

Cabin 0245, Enrico was pleasant and accommodating. Lots of closet space and hangers. Wonderful view from the balcony and a quiet location. The coffee pot made a big difference and should be in every state room on every line. Bed linens were comfortable and we slept well. There should be a second nightstand which we missed and a slight larger table in front of the sofa.
The balcony chairs were good but one that would lie back like a lounge chair would also be a real plus. TV was good with a great variety of movies and TV shows. A weather channel would have been nice. Adequate room, clean and well appointed. Very satisfied with this cabin. Read entire member review >>
Great location. Not affected by the very rough waters. Great balcony--port side and always in the sun. Needs upgraded TV. The ship shows its age, however, the cabin was one of the best I had in the cruises I have been on. Very large and clean. The sofa would need to be changed, but didn't bother us. We could occasionally hear chairs being moved about on the pool deck above us but it was never loud enough to bother us. Loved having a balcony. Makes the trip special. Quiet. Our door stuck - hard to open and close. One night we woke to it being unlatched because we didn't slam it hard enough when we shut it. These are moderated message boards. What this means is that we do our best to remove all objectionable messages from the boards. It also means that you cannot say whatever you'd like on the forums. If you are looking for an "anything goes" setting, Cruise Critic might not be the place for you. Understand, too, that our community is comprised of folks who LOVE to cruise. It therefore stands to reason that they will have a favorite cruise line or port of call -- in other words, they are "fans" and will sometimes take offense when a brand new member has arrived on the scene to bash a cruise line.
Keep in mind that we do not prescreen posts so there may be a period of time when an inappropriate post is visible. Please use the Report A Post icon located in the UPPER right hand corner of each posting if you wish to report a violation of our Community Guidelines.
