"Two days in Lima was also very good although it was strange how getting off the ship required a 20 minute shuttle ride to a plaza further away from the main city than where the ship was docked - but ubers were cheap so it was only the time factor that was a bit annoying.* South American ports aren't as busy with other cruise traffic, but that can also mean that there is less organised activity you can book on-shore
* Uber was a relatively cheap and practical way to get around, and took the guesswork out of negotiating fares with taxi drivers or other private operators
* Mobile coverage and data was sometimes a bit patchy on-shore - weirdly it was places like Santiago and Lima where it was less reliable
* NCL didn't seem to care too much about the on-shore experience for those not on one of their official excursions - and there weren't even many of those that you could book
* The Sun is showing its age and I wonder just how many more years she's got in the fleet...."Read More

1-10 of 216 Norwegian Sun Cruise Reviews for for the Disabled to the Panama Canal & Central America
We chose this trip because of the ship and the itinerary. We prefer the small ships because they have a more personal and intimate feel to them compared to the big ships like the Bliss, Epic, Encore etc.
The entire cruise experience was great. We had a balcony stateroom and it was very spacious and comfortable. Yes, the ship is older so the room does show some wear and tear but it was very ...
This was the second time we'd sailed on the Norwegian Sun but we enjoyed the first time more and noticed some subtle changes which had made the cruise more expensive. We like the ship because it is smaller with 2,000 guests. The State Rooms, the Dining, the Bars and the Entertainment were all excellent.
The Service in some departments however left plenty of room to improve particularly around ...
We chose this cruise because of the canal transit and the South American itinerary.
A week or so out there was a change to the itinerary, dropping the first stop in Colombia (Santa Marta), changing Panama City to Colón, and adding an extra day in Lima. I haven't seen an explanation for the change, and while the extra day in Lima instead of Santa Marta was a decent trade, Colón for Panama City ...
The crew were excellent. Most of the entertainment in the theatre were your dancers and singers Most cruise lines are reducing the levels of service and amenities provided. NCL has taken this to the extreme. There are no toiletries; no bath gowns; no chocolate on the pillow at turn-down. In fact they have no turn-down service at all. Dirty towels remain on the floor until the next day (often the ...
Just completed 20 days on the sun from Seattle to Fl. First off we had a penthouse i bedroom rear facing suite on the 10th floor that had a very large deck with two chairs and two loungers with thick and comfortable pads. The room was ok - the shower wad small to fit the 6 foot tub. The living room needed an extra chair and bigger table for eating on but we just bough in a deck chair. The bed was ...
We choose because of the itenery. Ship was very clean & crew very friendly. The food was horrible ! Corn & ham on pizza only 1 example. Entertainment I have seen better at high school level. Pool Entertainment was funeral music. They asked us to buy a cruise pkg of $3k upfront lump sum to guarantee them 12 cruises. NO! there was a port cancelation & the refused refund of the port fee. They ...
NCL 2 for 1 FLIGHTS:
They booked us from PHX-MIA on American Airlines, our go-to airline, where we received a "Complementary" upgrade to 1st Class. Our 2nd trip in a row to have that happen. We flew home on SouthWorst – all flights delayed, baggage arrived on 2 different flights.
NCL SHUTTLE FROM MIA-PORT:
Our flight arrived VERY early so we had time to eat breakfast before we caught the ...
Just to give this review some context, I was traveling solo, am 70 years old, and this was my second Norwegian cruise. I took this cruise primarily for three ports: Acajutla (El Salvador), Puerto Quetzal (Guatemala) and San Juan del Sur (Nicaragua). I'd already been through the Panama Canal, so that was of less interest to me.
First, there were things to like about this cruise.
The ship ...
Very disappointed with NCL on our latest cruise. The ship was dated, should have done our homework on this ship first, yes our fault but not only that the ship broke down in Colombia, no electric which meant no air con, extremely hot in Columbia! We had to stay in port overnight but 2 full days there! Was allowed off the Ship but nowhere to go, no shuttle buses were put on, Columbia a bit of a ...
To be clear, this was my first cruise, so I don't have anything to compare it to, or any sense of what is typical on a cruise ship. The Sun is an older ship and could really benefit from some updating and repairs. Many people that I spoke with had mechanical problems in their cabins, though most were promptly fixed by the crew. I had an issue with the thermostat in my cabin. It didn't work, so ...
