The Star: An older ship heading for S America

About the Reviewer: I’m a middle-aged American male who traveled solo on this, my 60th voyage. Over half of my sailings have been with NCL, however, I have sailed on other cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, MSC and Carnival. This cruise was my first cruise as a Diamond Latitudes member with NCL. My reviews are written in chronological order of events as they took place on the ship. ...

We had an unexpected two weeks off and asked our travel agent to find a good deal for a cruise. The travel agent found a Norwegian cruise on the Norwegian Star leaving Southampton on October 23, 2023. We had never sailed with Norwegian before and were open to trying it out. We've sailed previously with Carnival, Celebrity, Oceania, Princess and Royal Caribbean. We have not cruised since 2018 so we ...

Saturday, September 23 I am John and my wife, Eve, took this cruise after spending a day touring London. The drive to the port from our London hotel was 2 hours away. NCL wanted everyone on board by 2 pm, so we knew it would be tight. We were making good time until we got off and hit Southampton local traffic, then everything turned to a crawl. Later, we found that there was a boat show going ...

The itinerary for this cruise was to circumnavigate Ireland it was this fact along with drinks package that we chose this sailing. Apart from one port Killy Begs the visits were good. Fellow passengers were great company and that was all I can say positively. Food was just OK the ship is quite tiered and the ocean view staterooms small. The every day staff waiters cabin stewards all ...

We have just experienced six weeks cruising on the NCL Star chosen for the itinerary. The refurbished ship is basic, clean. and most staff are friendly. Staterooms are about 1/2 the size of a standard hotel room; comfortable with basic amenities, but not very soundproof. Hopefully your neighbours on all four sides are respectful and considerate of others. The Bliss Lounge is now dark without ...

Had great cruise in 2018 with Norwegian on the epic. Was hoping for same on the Star. The Star is smaller and was very clean. Cabin staff were excellent. Staff constantly yelling greetings at you everywhere you go. Had to ask a few to stop yelling at me. It’s sad because in their attempt to make you feel Welcome it becomes annoying and we just started to ignore them as the trip ...

Cold Food Lets It Down

The ship was very clean and the staff were friendly. The food choice is good but in nearly every restaurant the food is cold or tepid. In the Versailles especially coffee was not hot enough and spoilt breakfast. We liked O’Sheehans and the service was very good, again coffee was not always hot. Overall the speciality restaurants were good although in Le Bistro the service was far too quick. La ...

Initially looking at another British Isles cruise that includes Belfast, Dublin and Liverpool, I ended up on this itinerary that embarks at Reykjavik. This definitely is a rarity as few big ships do turnarounds at Iceland. Not only could I spend more time exploring Iceland's inland and south coast from the capital, but also see three other Icelandic towns without taking a flight or a car. Another ...

NCL let us down for the 1st time

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Norwegian Star

This was our 4th NCL cruise and it was sadly our worst experience so far. It was so bad, that NCL went from being our go-to line to our backup plan going forward. CONS: 1. Overpriced internet package of $600 bucks didn't even work most of the time. It was infuriating. 2. Food in the MDR was often too salty. Wasn't like this on other NCL lines. I'm willing to overlook this because NCL has ...
