We did the 15 day Baltic cruise from Stockholm to Southampton. The itinerary was great and the shore excursions excellent. We choose not to take the long bus/train rides into Berlin, Paris or Brussels but instead enjoyed exploring the smaller cities near the ports. The Norwegian Spirit is in need of refurbishing but we didn't spend much time on it. The food was mediocre but adequate. Unfortunately the dining availability did not match the excursions and sail away times. We came back late from excursions twice to find only a very small cafe open to get any food at all. Another issue was that the ship docked in many industrial port areas away from the nearest cities. There were cruise ships docked much closer to the ports but it seemed that we always were docked much farther away requiring shuttles and such. It also seemed that some of the entertainment was repeated or at least the blurbs about the shows were identical. We enjoyed one group and were looking forward to seeing them again but it was the same show. Read Less

We always sail with NCL. We enjoy their ships and services. We usually get the drink package, dinner package for free, and on our next cruise we are getting the drink package, dinner package, free WIFI (100min.) and 50$ off ever shore excursion. We are very comfortable and we know what to expect. We are also the type of people that go out on our own and walk most ports. We drove to Southampton, UK from Germany. Very easy to park and find cruise port. We like that most of the cruises we have gone on with NCL do not have a lot of young children. We are a mid 50, couple who travel together and like to party. The Spirit is NCL smallest and holdest ship. It is going in for refit in Feb 2020. They were always working on the ship to keep it well maintained in the common areas. Read Less

We picked this cruise because of the availability, the itinerary and the value of the package we took. Embarkation was a lot smoother than previous cruises as was disembarkation, the accessibility of the entertainment and activities was so much easier to deal with even though we did not pre book any shows or dining, and as it was a smaller ship we got to know the crew a lot better so I believe we received a more personal service, making many friends with crew, and more friends than usual with other passengers. Although this is Norwegian’s oldest ship we found it more attractive to our needs as we rarely go on the ropes courses, sports courts and fitness rooms of the larger ships, so although there was less variety of activities we found we got to get everything we wanted like window seats in the restaurants, a fantastic view on the galaxy of the stars viewing deck where we saw dolphins ride the bow on almost a daily basis, short wait for the karaoke and very little waiting time at bars and restaurants. Fair to very good, overall. Beverage package, shore excursions, internet, photo & other merchandising rather overpriced and not a good value proposition for this traveler. It really depends on one's personal experience and frame of reference. For example, I live in San Francisco, Hawaii, Las Vegas & Florida ~ all tourist destinations with similar features/amenities/goods & services for visitors who want an unforgettable/great experience. NCL does well but could do better. Very poor internet service, a rip-off in packages offered, with details for the non-techie not explained clearly in advance. Slow service, special apps, what's available near land vs. at sea, etc. Beverage package isn't a good value for non-drinkers. Water and soft drinks are overpriced & it's unfair that travelers can't bring some of this onboard. Other vendors allow this. Corkage is high and unevenly charged. Food is great in complimentary restaurants! Food is good to very good, especially compared with SF, Vegas & Hawaii where costs are equally high or higher. Spa services are overpriced and not a good value for average travelers. $100 after discounts for treatments which are fair to good ~ okay but not great, especially for the budget conscious who still want to try and/or experience (a) pampering experience(s). Health & wellness category is saturated so customers need good reasons to use your products & services and this sometimes, not always, clearly explained. Staff does their best at/with what they're working with. TV programming & daily activities pamphlets are great! Very good merchandising/promotion of products and services. Staff & crew are charming, attractive, generally service minded & professional but overall service is uneven so the mandatory 20% gratuity charge is not appreciated, especially considering that tips are shared with back of the house & others. Prefer tipping based on service with higher performance being rewarded more, understandably. Gaming was generally good. The casino was good at taking money (at night but not in the day during this experience) but not a good value proposition compared to Vegas, which offers better/more amenities for players. Some of the casino hosts/service providers were great but some could definitely do better, perhaps due to lack of sleep or other issues. Had a few jackpots that thrilled me but did better in port casinos which gave better play for a value added experience. The selection of shore excursions was rather impressive but not a good overall value compared with other tour vendors/nearby options & the cruiseline fails to mention the close proximity to activities available at no additional cost. Well coordinated but some of the guides were uneven in performance. Some were fair. Some were very good to excellent. Shows were okay to very good. Earlier performances were too crowded with seats reserved by travelers despite specific NCL guides to NOT do this. Very good considering this is a complimentary option without Las Vegas production costs. Performers were good to great. Programming was great and shows were well-done given its limitations. Example: the second to last & last shows are Cirque du Soleil-like without the $250 price tag. Exceptional!! The last show with cast & crew was very well done in providing a marketing opportunity for NCL to promote good word-of-mouth & social media sharing as well as a chance for tourists to get a complimentary photo opp. The photo sold by NCL are a rip off, especially in this day & age where everyone has a cellphone and/or photo equipment so what's provided is cheesy/gimmicky/overpriced to me. Excellent high end/low end product merchandising (watches, diamonds, jewelry, etc.) & atrium sale promotions provide the something for everyone opportunity is very well done! Art "auctions" are especially deceptive. Very well orchestrated/promoted but items are not what is represented to customers. Items 15 & 16 under terms & conditions is confusing/misleading, buried in fineprint. Not fair or honest but I understand this as others have tried/are doing this too. Workers do an excellent job to promote the pieces but had some to good understanding of what they were talking about. Auctioneer is very charming and clever! It's clear that some NCL staffers were very good & enjoyed providing excellent customer service. Others were not. NCL upsells/cross-sells/merchandises & generally promotes well & effectively. A great experience for the naive inexperienced traveler looking for a once in a lifetime experience may enjoy but overpay when looking at overall cost to value compared with other vendors in this industry but I think NCL is doing very well at what it offers. However, given the generally okay/poor economy as well as the other travel/vacation options available, this was not GREAT to EXCELLENT for this traveler. Still, overall, had a very good time! Will share about this experience to compare notes with other fellow travlers but will not with others who are looking for a better value and will recommend other options/vendors to spend their precious time & dollars on. Hope that this is helpful and that I have a better experience the next time I choose NCL. THANK YOU for the opportunity to provide feedback as customers have too many options in this day & age and best in class experiences are always desired but not guaranteed or received and depends on how much one wants to pay and/or is used to spending for products & services. It depends on what one knows/has experienced (frame of reference). As someone living primarily in San Francisco, NCL provided a GREAT experience and good value. Prices are lower in Europe so the specialty restaurants were a special treat for the price (Le Bistro wasn't very good) but the complimentary dining options are wonderful & well done for the average traveler. Absolutely great & an unforgettable experience for many if not most. Drink specials and happy hour promotions in the bars could be better. There was too much pushing of frequent traveler programs & not a good value (for me) but generally all bigger players in many industries are doing the same or similar. The towel animals were a delight. Selling a DVD about it is not. No coffee machine in room or ice machines to get more than what's provided. No iron in room. Room amenities were good. ServiBar was not cold enough. Laundry service is overpriced but cleverly timed. A wonderful getaway, chance to unplug and relax & will definitely do this again! Read Less

Service also excellent the staff were wonderful could not do enough for us. Always greeted us with a smile and "have a good day". Plenty to do on board ship something for everyone. Tours offered good variety and were very enjoyable with exellent guides. The only complaint I have is that I bought the cruise in July 2018. Then there was an offer that when you bought you could choose between several offers such as open bar, free WIFI ect. I wrote to Mrs. Kassie Hoover who sent me the email that I had already bought the trip for two people, that I qualified for the offers. I never received an answer I only bought the WIFI package for the trip since the open bar was very expensive. Read Less

Firstly about the cruise line: This was the first time we used this cruise line and had high expectations considering our experience with HAL (Holland America Line) 2 years ago. So like last time we did not book direct but through an travel agent in a packaged tour/cruise deal. With the package it was 2 cruises back to back and thankfully we could retain the same cabin for both cruises. So travelling as a middle-aged but very active couple seeking to explore the Mediterranean for the first time. So like other cruise lines, we got email notification from NCL that we could log on and personalise our experience. Their system is easy to use and worked well. They also have an on-board app called ‘I Concierge’ which is linked to your account and uses the ship’s Wi-Fi system (for free) but you create your log on via your name and birthdate. It does work extremely well and allows you to look at your account and book experiences (packages such as spa, specialty dining etc.) but the system has a flaw which we heard from a couple of passengers whose birthday is 29th February (leap day) as the system does not recognise this date (poor programming from the designers of the app) so they could not create their log on and had to use the manual system of bookings and print outs of their accounts, a little disappointing for those technically inclined. When you board the ship you are issued with a cruise card that is linked to your account, identifies you as a passenger and unlocks your cabin door. Good security system and works very well. Equally the disembarkation worked wonderfully (we chose the walk off option which gave us more time and flexibility to be packed and off by 9am deadline). Also the day at port for the changeover between the 2 cruises was very well managed and stress free. As part of our package we were offered the choice of 2 of the 5 ‘Free at Sea’ deals. We chose the shore excursion credit and the unlimited beverage package (UBP). Bear In mind that all passengers travelling together in the same cabin have to have the same choices, which is understandable and prevents sharing of benefits. Here is how they worked; the UBP is linked to your cruise card and allows you unlimited number of alcoholic beverages to the value of USD$15 per glass, so this covers quite a few beers, wines, spirits and cocktails (with the average cost of a beer being USD$8 and wines USD$10, it is an effective package and well worth considering depending on how much you drink); shore credit is a little more tricky. So with shore credit, firstly it is applied as a USD$50 credit to your on board account and is given at the completion of your booked shore excursion at each port. Here’s the thing, it is only applied to cabin account once per port irrespective if more than one excursion is booked and if you are overnighting in a port it will not apply to a second day’s excursion booked if you had done an excursion the previous day. So one credit per port only (however it does change on other cruises where you spend multiple days in a port but you have to check that out with them prior to booking to see if that exception applies). If you book your excursions after you board, the USD$50 credits will be deducted from your tours on you onboard account so in effect you get a discount for your excursions. However, if you book online or by phone prior to booking, these credits will be applied not to the tours but your overall on-board account for your other purchases so if you don’t spend extra you will lose that credit as it will not come off the total bill, to get the value, you will need to spend the equivalent amount in specialty dining, internet, drinks, spa etc whilst on board. They will not refund any unused portion of the credit at the end of the cruise. This is something you need to be fully aware of if you choose this package. Having said that, we waited to book until we boarded and were not disadvantaged in any way, managed to get on every excursion we had requested. Pre-Cruise stay: We stayed in Rome for 2 nights as part of our package and had a wonderful time exploring the city and some of the big iconic sites. We opted to stay in the centre of the city which gave us great access to all the city has to offer and public transport should we need it (which we really didn't as we could walk everywhere easily). NORWEGIAN SPIRT So about the ship, it is the smallest of this cruise line, holding 2000 passengers. It is not the smallest we have seen so consider it mid-sized. The cabins are a tad smaller than the bigger ships but still comfortable. The ship is well maintained, nicely appointed and the staff are extremely helpful. Boarding – efficient and no hassles and extremely well managed. Theatre /Shows – good theatre but the seating is a little tricky as the rows are too close together so trying to sit down with the seat needing to be flipped down can be difficult as the seat rubs on the back of your legs but once you are seated it is comfortable enough. As for the shows, some are fantastic others not quite so. Bars – there are a number of them on-board and all are lovely, lots of seating, good views, ultra clean and have good service from the staff. Different events are hosted in the various bars so quite and noisy times but you can always find something to suit your style. Dining – Specialty restaurants, bars, buffet bistros and main dining options. The buffet bistro is always busy and can like all buffet venues have big queues, just need to pick your moment. The evening meals are theme based and add variety. It is included in your fare so no extra expense. The main dining rooms (Windows and the Garden Room) have the same menus with full sit down service (no lining up). Good menu with delicious food, just lacking in vegetable content which us Aussies are used to and desire. After the first cruise, the menu was repeated so that was a bit of a disappointment. We did not do the specialty restaurants but feedback from fellow passengers that they really enjoyed their meals. Allergies – if you have a food allergy let the waiter know (if you haven’t already), they have allocated a specialist waiter to help you with your orders. Here is how it works; you will be encouraged to pre-order your meal for the next evening so the chefs have a chance to prepare your meal without the offending allergens. That’s fine but it does lock you into a specific restaurant. As I have an unusual allergy it confused them somewhat and I had to explain and sometimes stand my ground about my choices. “But madam, that meal has portions that are not made on-board so we can’t guarantee it is allergen free” and my response “I have decades of experience at working out what foods are likely or unlikely to have that spice, I know this meal option will be safe for me to eat”. This system only works for the restaurants not the buffet or cafés. I much prefer to ask if the meal contains the specific spice than be locked into a pre-ordered meal. Cabins – we had 9182 allocated to us and it was not the best choice. The cabin was aft and directly above the theatre, below the kids club rooms and opposite the hotel storeroom. So a very noisy cabin at times. We heard all the shows, some louder than others….groan. The kids had active play at night and sounded like elephants playing soccer with lots of thumps, bumps, loud sharp bangs, yelling and general boisterous play. This went on late into the night and we had to have a polite word with the staff in that area about it. They agreed to cease the active play at 9:30pm so we considered that fair and reasonable. However, it took quite a bit of discussion and investigation to resolve the noises coming from there between 1 and 2am every night. Worked out it was the cleaners, not sure if they were playing with the equipment while doing their job or just jolly noisy but either way the noise abated and we were given chocolate-coated strawberries and a bottle of red wine as an apology. Nice touch, but we just wanted to have uninterrupted sleep. The situation was handled well by staff but the problem is the lack of insulation in the floor/ceiling space, so ultimately a design flaw. We had heard that others below the pub had even worse noise issues. Apart from the issues above, the cabins are snug but well laid out and comfortable. Storage space needs a little redesign, much prefer shelves than drawers but that is a preference and my side of the bed did not have a shelf. The cabins are well maintained and if you are able to choose your cabin wisely, all should be fine. Shore Excursions: They range in price and quality but mostly very good, it really is port dependant as some ports are just better explored on foot by yourselves. Naturally the big iconic places like Athens, Venice, Santorini, etc are just amazing. Again, I urge you to do your homework about the ports, google them, look at specific forums and use the features that google maps can provided so you get a better understanding of the place and the logistics for self exploration and scheduled excursions. Ports: Some ports were not much to explore and docking a little far out to walk to the city but mostly good ports and easy access. In 2 ports there was an additional cost to shuttle to the city from the ship if you were not on a book excursion. That is a little disappointing but it is what it is. Several ports were simply stunning in terms of visual appeal (hello Venice, Malta for example) and easy free access to either just walk off, water shuttle service or shuttle bus. Kids Activities: Although we did have children with us, they seem well catered for and security surrounding their care was very well handled. Kids would love this ship. CRUISE WITH NCL AGAIN? That’s the question. We are not adverse to using them again but they are not our first preference. These cruises are designed to capture the party animal and families and we are not that way inclined. So it would depend on the ports, after all that is what cruising internationally is all about, at least for us. Be aware that the cost of the cruise does not include the shore excursions so you could effectively double the cost depending on your choices. Do your homework before you decide as you don’t have to book through them but it is easier to do so and there is a variety of tours for all budgets. For us, we will be cruising on HAL again later next year as part of another land/cruise tour package so we will make a report on that and a better comparison but we are considering another line altogether for a another trip. More on that if and when it becomes a definite trip. Ocean cruising is totally different from river cruises and you need to be aware of that. So our advice is look at the ports and how long each port stay lasts then compare the ships that do the cruises. Read Less

We’re frequent cruisers (at least 2 cruises a year) and we decided to sail on the NCL Spirit (European itinerary from Civitavecchia, Italy. The ship was an older ship with Asian inspired decor. We normally sail on newer liners but they don’t tend to have this itinerary. However, our experience was fantastic! The staff was extremely friendly and the ship is fairly clean. The only downsize was that they would turn off the ac when docked and the rooms/hallways smelled like sewage at times. The entertainment was great with plenty to do. The “freestyle” experience is by far the best!! Freestyle on this liner literally means Freestyling! Dinning staff and crew were very attentive and extremely nice. We always had our glass of Chardonnay topped when seated. The food was also great tasking. My biggest advice would be to book a cabin with either a balcony or at least a window as we stayed inside and the cabin was pitch black. We never knew what time it was. Overall, this was a great experience and would most definitely sail NCL again! Read Less

Had a fantastic time on this cruise, the itinerary was excellent as were the excursions that were available. Excursion prices seemed quite reasonable for what was included particularly when compared to arranging things for yourself when you arrived into port. The ship itself was good although in parts it lookes 'tired' and dated and lacked attention to detail eg missing light bulbs in public areas. That said the shipwas clean, functional and welcoming. The staff were very friendly and always ready to help across all areas/services. The evening entertainment in the Theatre was okay and we have certainly experienced better in terms of quality. and variety on previous cruises. The absolute star of the entertainment was the on board group Souled Out.....absolutely fabulous, the best cruise poolside entertainment i've experienced and really worked hard to create a party atmosphere! Good range of bars & restaurants. All in all wonderful holiday, would happily recommend. Read Less

Looking for a good value all inclusive cruise with a great list of ports to visit and fun for a grown up familly. This cruise didn't disappoint. We we're a group of 12 adults from England and found plenty to do whilst either on the boat or in port. The Spirit was very clean with lovely housekeeping and dining staff always happy to help with our needs. One of our group was Gluten intolerant and her needs were catered for without inconvience the majority of the time. Our Cabin was an indoor stateroom on deck 10 sleeping 3 adults. The sleeping arrangement was fine, 2 on a double an one on a pull out bed on the floor, all very confortable. This was our first time in an indoor room with no windows and taking the price into consideration, we were all more than happy with this. Food quality in both the buffet area at lunch and the afternoon dining was very good and although we we're a big group of 12, we we accomodated at all times. Pre booking is recommened however just to be sure and to avoid delays. There was plenty of entertainment available throughout the cruise, the pool band 'souled out' were really enjoyable, playing well known hits for all to enjoy. The pool itself was salt water and cold but was never overcrowded due to it being adult only and well supervised. The music, (other times around the pool and in the night club at the end of the day) at times was very hispanic based. A little of this music we were happy with but for times it would be 3 or 4 hours constant around the pool and song after song in the night club. Afternoon entertainment was a bit hit and miss, there was a bit of everything, magic, dancing, singing etc but a few of the acts were a little boring and lacking the 'wow' factor. On a final note for entertainment, we were a group of 12 so found it easy to make our own entertainment most times (a little thanks to the free bar) but think we may of struggled if in small groups. The casino and nightclub ended most nights for us, casino was a little expensive $10 minimum across all tables so we stayed to the machines. The nightclub was a good laugh although the karaoke which was on for an hour or so before the nightclub every night had a very hard to navigate song request system, meaning long queues and many not being able to find the song they were after. Service on the whole was great, the only place where we had a little issue was at some of the bars where a few of our party experienced either an attitude or just unecessary rudeness and unpoliteness when ordering drinks from bar staff. The highlight of the cruise was the ports that we visited hence the 4 out 5 rating. After pre booking a few excursions and researching all locations that we visited before leaving on the cruise, the days out where highly enjoyable. We as a group recommend pre booking both trips and transport pre cruise but not exclusively with the cruise. Multiple times we sorted our own lifts\guides and excursions to great effect. Opinions are split about whether we would travel on the spirit again. Read Less

We choose cruises based on destination and pricing. We should have paid more attention to NCL Spirit's Greek Isles itinerary; it was busy; only one sea day at the beginning of the cruise. Most shore excursions began around 9 a.m., so there wasn't much leisure time onboard. Our cabin was comfortable, roomy enough. In the bathroom, the shower was actually "spacious", if you can say that about a cruise ship's shower! Entertainment aboard ship was outstanding! Specialty dining restaurants overall were great, maybe with the exception of Cagney's Steakhouse which we found disappointing. Le Bistro however, was outstanding. The Blue Lagoon cafe was quite nice. We used it several times. We would have preferred a few more trivia events. The theme, or motif on the Spirit is curious: Chinese! An interesting story about why it's that motif. We're not loyal to any particular cruise line, used 4 others on occasion. Overall, we'd give this NCL ship, and the cruise itself, a "3 star" rating. Read Less

I have always wanted to take a Mediterranean cruise and finally had the opportunity to do so. First time on NCL, and I was very impressed with the services. The Sprit is an older ship, and I thought they did a good job with the remolding. We were a group of 10 and we all enjoyed the food, entertainment and port of calls. Although the freestyle was an adjustment for us, we were able to adjust with ease. Other adjustments we worked with are having to pay for their Specialty dining, which one was a steakhouse, the other served French, and I believe the other was Japanese food. 2 iof the restaurants, which were many favorites, were small and filed up quickly, it was difficult to sit a group, but eventually we were able to work it out. We also discovered that NCL charges for laundry, which is the only way to get your laundry done. I will definitely cruise with NCL again. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the time of year and ports of call. We did read a lot of reviews and despite negativity citing ship age, food, cabin size etc, our recent experience was very good. My biggest issue is around the "Free on Board" advertising which I believe is not correct as nothing is free. When I spoke to our travel agent, she confirmed that you pay for everything up front - therefore once on board you don't pay anything. We considered the drinks package which for the 10 day cruise - with conversion rates and the obligatory 20% gratuity, equated to approx. $1000- each. Prices on board were quite excessive with the cheapest bottle of wine with the exchange rate and gratuities equated to approx. $45 Australian. A stubby was about $14 Australian. The staff were excellent, food options were good and the ship was well maintained and what we experienced quite clean. The entertainment on board was of a good quality. Overall it depends on what you are looking for and your expectations - but for us it was a good holiday that we selected mainly due to the ports of call. Read Less

It is dated and you can see the age, the decor is lacking. Buckles in the carpet, general wear and tear through out the ship. Our cabin room was musty, I lost my voice due to the dampness. The shower needed recaulking. The staff and crew were friendly and great! Cruise director was great, Encore was great! All the shows were great! I'd consider it again if the itinerary was perfect once more! The dining food flavors seem to run all together eventually. The desserts were never anything special. Pound cake/brownies made into 10 different desserts. Unless dancing or shows, there didnt seem to be alot of crowd participation. All in all, it was a good and memorable cruise. I always believe you make what you want of any cruise ship, and we enjoyed our ten days. Pros: Relaxed ship. Easy walk off with your luggage when disembarking if you want. Good choice of eating venues. Most entertainment in the large theatre was of a high standard. Drinks package is well managed and allows two drinks on one card. Comfy beds. Mostly friendly staff. Casino discreetly located. Lots of eating out space on rear decks. Cons: Passenger direction could be better, and shuttle bus info made more available. (Charged for some - eg Casablanca where walk off is long and ill advised - yet 15 euros for shuttle, then 2 euros for a useless photocopied map of the town.) Some staff are glum, and please drop the `happy happy, washy washy` stuff. Daytime activities often poor. Had to queue 1 hour to board through security and check in. Every drink gets 20% tip added, and then in Spanish ports there is 10% VAT added too! Limited quiet drinking/coffee space, and (sometimes mediocre) musicians can be intrusive. Read Less

We just got back from a 10 day cruise to the Canary Islands leaving from Barcelona. Check in was fast and effecient. Cabin 11126 was a balcony on deck 11 not a great location as the main buffet restaurant was directly above and at 2am and 4am and 6am you could here noise from getting the buffet ready. Beds were comfortable bathroom was small and not much cabinet drawer space for your clothes. T.V. programs very limited and some night the channel dropped out. Dining was great liked the "The Garden" restaurant was it was more intimate and went at 5:30pm when they opened and service was always great. Food was good lots of variety on menu. It was not upscale food but delicious. First night they had prime rib which was great. Ask for a window seat and you usually get one. Ate serval times at Windows slow check in for table service slow same menu as the Garden. We went to Showgun Asian restaurant twice always got right in at 5:30pm food was good had the lemon pepper shrimp. Didn't really care for the dessert selection. We had severval breakfast and lunches at the main buffet Raffles lots of selection. I had the poached eggs for breakfast no line up. We ate outside which was nice and quiet. Some days had great selection of desserts baked apple and apple strudel. Entertainment was outstanding especially the magician show, arobats show and the new dance production elements. Didn't care for the three singers on two different nights one night it was opera and another a variety of songs. We went up to the Galaxy for the game shows which were good. Bands playing were good. Enjoyed all the ports except Casablana Morocco as there was too much pollution smog and lots of aggressive taxi drivers and merchants. Don't take the ship shuttle for $15 U.S to the city center as nothing really there but take a taxi from the port but be sure to get the price before you get it 40 to 50 euros for 2 hour tour. Lots of walking in all the ports as the ships are docked a long ways out from town 2.5km to end of pier. We enjoyed the size of the smaller ship about 2000 people. Enjoyed the glassed in sun room on deck 12 for sitting. Since it is an older ship lots of vibration from the engine which I didn't really enjoy. Embarkation was coloured coded and very effecient. Norwegian seems to be charging for a lot of extra activities on board 10 different ones one morning. Didn't take any of the ships shore excursions as they were all too expensive. Read Less

I only chose to do this cruise last minute because of the great deal I got but wow it was great to be back on this lovely ship. She is small to medium size, only 2000 passengers, which makes it large enough for you to have space when you want but small enough for you to feel the intimacy. She is also one of the better looking of the Norwegian ships. My cabin, a balcony, was adequate though I would not want to try and fit 3 people into it and as usual the bathroom area was tight. What was usual about this trip was even though it was mid November it was warm and sunny enough for me to use the balcony which was small and only had seats. Food was great thoughout the ship and I used all venues except sushi. My only complaint was windows as this venue is directly below the theatre and if the production is on while your seated it is very hard to have a conversation with people around your table. NCL do a great job with their solo travellers, one of the major reasons I use them, and this cruise was no different. We had a lovely group and our host was friendly and helpful. My only real down side was that some of the ports are so large that when I look out I am daunted by the length of the walk to get to the buses/taxis especially now that I am getting older and my mobility is lessening. I wish sometimes they would provide those little buggies you see at some airports. Read Less

I have not been with this cruise line, normally P&O, Royal Carrabian, or Princess cruises. Liverpool cruie clube (now cruise club UK) did FANTASTIC deals including full drinks package for really low price. The buffet is smaller than other ships and becomes over crowded especially at breakfast, not sure why they do not keep seated breakfast going on until 10am to eleveate this state. Food in buffet a tad limited again when compared to other cruise lines, however seated dinning was exceptional, and the Blue Lagoon was excellent service and food. The venues were a first for me after searching for this combination of Venice and Malta for years, really good venues and quiet close to the town (walking distance) in most cases unlike the med cruises with bigger ships. Cabi was small (inner to save expenses) and didnt have coffee facilities, which meant the wife had to pop and get coffee before I stirred !!! (yes OK but I am a tad disabled) Not sure the cabin lady we had was changing sheets but bed always made and cabin acceptable clean standard. Overall really good value for money, excellent attitude by staff, and a great holiday. Read Less

I've cruised on another Norwegian ship as I love Italy and the Mediterranean and this cruise took me to places I hadn't visited. The price was right too. We landed in Rome the day before and spent some time on the hop on hop off buses. It's a great way to get an overview of a place.the hotel we stayed at was close to the train station so all was well. the embarkation process was simple and my room with a balcony was nice and bright and very quiet. I can't say enough about the crew, they work hard and are amazingly polite and helpful. I thought the food was fine and some entrees were positively fabulous . Generally we had breakfast at the buffet and dinner at a restaurant as the buffet can be a bit of a cattle call.i was a little underwhelmed at the entertainment tho some of it just wasn't my cup of tea.You also have the choice to not go. We did excursions in all ports and the were all really informative and spoke good English, however one tour guide was outstanding and that was a tour we took in Sicily - FABULOUS. Sicily by Mario it is not a tour off the boat (www. sicily by mario.com) we did "The Godfather Tour" we were picked up at the dock and whisked away to our destination .Our guide was Ignazio Astone and he was great, spoke really good English was charming and knew his stuff as he had been born in Messina and still lives there. our tour was altered because of the G7 Summit so we could not go to Taormina after Savoca and Forza da Agro but Ignazio gave us an in-depth look at Messina. Great time I highly recommend tours by Mario,(reasonable too) Read Less

First time cruisers, picked the Spirit primarily on price. Was a bit concerned initially by reviewers who wrote off the ship as being old and tired. Although we had an inside family cabin, we were happy with the size and condition of the cabin. We did have a noise problem at 2 AM when the staff was doing deck maintenance directly above us ( tell me how that makes any sense ... ) , and a plumbing backup issue another morning. NCL did provide complementary wine after each complaint, which took the sting out of things. We only ate in the complementary restaurants, but were generally happy with them. Only issues were salty food at times, and an order at the Blue Lagoon that was totally wrong, with very slow service and pretty much ruined our lunch during a busy afternoon at sea day. We ended up leaving after an hour and going to Ruffles Lounge. The evening performances were quite good, which was a surprise given that previous reviewers felt it was cheesy. Cruise director was great, kept things light and nightly videos were used to highlight activities for the next day. That being said, they could have given more port info to patrons not purchasing the ships excursions. The PROVENCE (MARSEILLE) port was changed to the island of Corisca due to high winds. I think this was great as we enjoyed the port, but other passengers were disappointed. We were disappointed that you could not leave the ship and wander around port in LIVORNO (FLORENCE / PISA) without paying 10 euro to sit on the Spirit's bus to go to the end of the wharf. I would have expected that after having paid port fees, I could at least walk thru the port. We were not allowed in port unless we went on the NCL bus. We particularly enjoyed PALMA MAJORCA. Again, more port info earlier on would have let us been more prepared before hand, but once we figured out that you could walk to 'old town', we had a great day. PALMA MAJORCA was by far my favorite port. All this being said, the ship itself was better than expected, the staff were great and the food was satisfying. Great value for the dollar. Read Less

We were recently at the Norwegian Spirit that sailed to Limassol, Cyprus and Haifa Israel. It was a memorable cruise - one, the itinerary was really great, we made good friends in the ship, and the ship crew had been friendly/helpful (in spite of the commotion when many passengers had to make new travel arrangements due to the Venice fog that prevented us from arriving at the port on the planned time.) We enjoyed the entertainments and the food was good for the most part of the cruise. We enjoy NCL because the crew are happy and treated well by the company (we have on one that the crew were so miserable it dampened the mood of holiday) - we see supervisors helping out all the time. It is a relaxed atmosphere. We were told of the luxury of other cruise lines eg. Oceania - but we sail NCL because luxury cruises are not within the budget, we are easy to please because we believe we can make our holiday as fun or as miserable as we want to (barring unexpected glitches beyond our control.) We loved this itinerary and not everyone will agree but we will sail NCL again. Read Less

As 1st time cruisers we extremely enjoyed this voyage. Beautiful ship, lovely cabin, with a balcony, very friendly helpful and polite staff Food plenty and enjoyable, liked the freestyle experience although there were plenty of other eateries to choose from Entertainment shows were brilliant and lots of dancing with the very good band HOTWIRE Embarkation was smooth if you didn't have to wait for a badge/sticker Perhaps next time we may choose not to have too many ports of call all at once , it was nice to visit Marseilles, Cannes, Pisa, Rome and Naples but would've liked a break in between like we did from Naples to Santorini but in all enjoyed the experience. The only downer was the over expensive tours. There was good advise given for Norwegian spirit tours but no other alternatives if you wanted too go on your own. We linked up with American / Canadian friends and shared a taxi cost around Florence/ Rome/ Athens and Croatia for a fraction of the cost Norwegian were charging. We would definitely cruise again with Norwegian and would recommend the company to friends and family See you again .....................SOON Read Less
