My husband and I are former crew members on a different cruise line so have lots of experience crushing. We were 2 families travelling with young children ages 3 and 5. We chose this cruise for the price, the ports, and the Kids amenities. Embarkation in Miami was a long process unfortunately due to them being extra cautious as a result of Coronavirus. Once on-board everything was smooth. The rooms were ready and the luggage didn’t take long to arrive. We were in cabin 13296. Room size and balcony were good. A little rocky at the top back of the ship. Overall a decent room, would probably try to get a cabin midship next time. Ports (Roatan, Harvest Caye, Costa Maya, Cozumel) were pretty typical of the Carribbean. There was a medical emergency on the first sea day unfortunately so we were about 3 hours late arriving to the first port. They did adjust the departure time by a couple of hours to compensate. The downsides were the tendering. The tendering at Harvest Caye and Cozumel took sooooo long. I know tendering takes long generally but this is longer than I have ever experienced. Organized, but unfortunately due to the large size of the tenders and the shear number of passengers, it just took way too long. I would estimate an hour or more in each direction. If you were on the tender first you often had to wait 30-45 minutes for it to fill up and then sometimes another 15-20 for everyone to get off depending on where you are sitting on the tender. We didn’t have a beverage or dining package and did not book in any of the additional restaurants. We were completely satisfied with the buffet and other main/complimentary dining rooms. Staff was friendly and accommodating all around. Kids pool, ropes course, and water slides were good. Splash Academy was also excellent for the children. We didn’t get a chance to take everything in since we had young children, but what we did see if the entertainment was excellent. Choir of Man and Howl at the Moon were excellent. Choir of Man is different than most other cruise ship shows and I loved it!!!! We did not do any shore excursions and booked taxis in each port to beaches and resorts. Read Less

Great ship, good food (repetitious menu), staff and service great. Cruised 3rd time on Norweigian, on our 49th Wedding Anniversary. No personal thank You for cruising with us again or Happy Anniversary. Maybe our Cruise planner forgot to tell them, don't know. Royal Carribean last year gave us a bottle of wine and a cheese plate for Our anniversary plus a bottle of wine for returning. There were no nighttime pool parties. All the deck lounge chairs were stacked and bound at dark. Wanted to sit out and watch the stars but no seats. There are lots of small lounges (bars) with entertainment, but not enough seats. You need to get there really early to get a seat. The Atrium has a lot of entertainment, but again limited seating. Need fewer but bigger lounges maybe. The The Choir of Man was a really good show. The rest of the entertainment so-so. One of the best acts was a crew member singing at the talent show. Loved the coffee maker in the room (balcony) Disembarkment simple, off the ship in 15 min. No real customs, a quick picture and You are off.We did enjoy ourselves but it could have been better. Read Less

We chose this ship due to the itinerary and the great package deal. We had some ups and downs. Pros - Embarkation was just fine little bit of a line which we have always experienced with no matter what cruise line. Drinks are not watered down at all actually very tasty and the drink package is well worth it especially if it comes with your room. Staff was excellent we did not experience any rudeness with staff as some people mention everyone was very nice. The entertainment was good throughout the ship, must see the dueling piano's, and if Orlando the comedian is on the ship he is really funny. The Choir of Men was a great Acapella group. The Speciality dining was very good as well as the main dining rooms the Buffet was adequate. We chose to carry our own luggage off the ship and last day Disembarkation was a piece of cake. Costa Maya highly recommend Coral Go Experience which is electric bikes to rent not from ship did through trip advisor was a huge thumbs up and way to experience downtown Mahahual. Now moving on to the Cons... Communication from the staff regarding Tendering on and off the ship not the best. Harvest Caye-Biggest Tour trap and waste of time, waited 2 hours to Disembark to the island and we were supposed to go on the ships tour to the Barrier Reef snorkel which we still don't know why we waited so long to get off the ship and then not being informed that our tour was cancelled after another wasted 40 minutes waiting in Harvest Caye. The island is a beach that is consisted of broken shells, a large swim up pool that has outrageous prices for dinner, drinks and a large gratuity tag so needless to say we did not eat or drink there. Went back to the ship after spending 45 minutes there. Roatan Bay best to have a tour booked there as you will feel very overwhelmed getting off the ship there. Pool on the ship should be much bigger, as others have said a little small for the amount of people on it, and there does not seem to be enough public bathrooms from deck 17 and above. Read Less

Having been on the Getaway a couple years ago, we chose Escape for both the class of ship and the itinerary. We had a flight arranged by NCL so arrived the day of the cruise - no issues and the transfer to the ship made everything seamless. The line up to embark was very long but went fairly quickly. Stateroom was ready right away which was great. The Escape has a ton to do - with so many passengers, you'd think it would be crowded, but it wasn't really. Waterfront is always my favorite place to walk around! I think my only complaint would be the smoking area in the adult only section of the pool deck...smokers are essentially beside the walking/running track and they are out early - exercising right beside a smoking section seems a bit odd but it certainly didn't ruin my trip. Teppanyaki is a must - we thoroughly enjoyed it - excellent food and entertainment! We frequented O'Shehans as well - great pub food. The complimentary eating areas are great, we did not have a bad meal. The buffet was also awesome with a lot of variety plus daily hamburgers and pizza which was a hit with my son. We stopped in Roatan, Harvest Caye, Costa Maya and Cozumel - tendering at Harvest Caye and Cozumel, which we hadn't done with the Getaway. We did book 2 excursions - snorkeling in Roatan and the Mayan ruins/lunch in Belize - both booked through NCL and both fun. The service was excellent throughout the ship, no complaints! If someone books a meet and greet, GO - it was the best one I had ever attended!! Disembarkation was good - we had transfers so got off early - there were people everywhere helping us out along the way. I do dislike gathering our luggage but it is a necessary evil lol! The customs piece was much improved though, all handled as you're leaving the ship so no additional line to stand in once you grab your luggage so there definitely was an improvement. I would go on Escape again, no issue, but looking forward to our cruise in 2021 on a smaller ship - it just has a different feel. I would totally recommend it! Read Less

Background and booking: (Summary at bottom for shorter read) We are a couple in our late 20's form the UK who did our first cruise with Royal Caribbean Oasis of the seas in September 2019 and the NCL escape is now our second. We really enjoyed Oasis of the Seas and the Mediterranean so we had our doubts when booking this cruise as we thought it couldn't live up to our previous. We knew we wanted to cruise the Caribbean and we did look at a few options on various lines (RCL, NCL, MSC). We finally chose this cruise as the free at sea offer for premium drinks package and 3 x specialty dining options for £99 each seemed like really good value. Cabin: Even though we booked a sail away inside stateroom, we were given a disability access room which gave us extra space compared to the standard inside cabins which was a nice bonus. The room was modern, came with a large dressing table / desk space and plenty of plug sockets (Mainly US but one EU). The room had some nice lighting options which was appreciated and the clothes drying line in the shower was a nice touch. Much better than our inside cabin on the Oasis of the Seas as it was a disability access cabin but standard cabins would have been smaller than OTS. We were on deck 15 just below the Garden Cafe which was a nice location as getting to breakfast and spice H20 were 1 and 2 flights of stairs away. We only heard noises from the buffet a couple of times just before we slept. Dining: I think dining is NCL's strong point. The Garden Cafe buffet offered a good variety of food which was changed every day. The headliner from the buffet would be advertised around the ship during the day to help you decide where to dine that night. We chose, Cagney's, Moderno's and Food Republic as our specialty dining choices and all were great. I especially enjoyed the sushi at Food Republic. It was amazing this was all included in the free at sea offer. O'Sheehans also needs to be mentioned as this is a great 24/7 eating spot. On RCL you had Sorrento's but O'Sheehans offers more. Food in the main dining room food was good. I especially liked the beef and the variety of options available however the one complaint I have was with the "Country Fried Chicken" which was disappointing. The chef really needs to review this dish. Waffles at the breakfast buffet were like crack. The Ship (Public areas, layout, design): The ship is clean, nice and modern and has a less cheesier design choice than RCL (I'm talking about fake tree's, statues etc). The main pool was crowded as we expected based on our research so we chose to find loungers at Spice H20 or at the front of the ship. We never had an issue with fining loungers around 10am on sea days, but I suppose if you were a bigger group, this would be harder. The elevators were frustrating as they seemed lazy. If you called for one and watched the numbers on all of them, only one or two out of 6 seemed to ever be moving. Not too much of an issue as the wait never seemed too long but this would become a problem at certain times (After shows / breakfast). The waterfront was a nice feature of the ship and is always quiet compared to the rest of the ship. If I was to redesign the ship I would put the internet cafe in the library and extend the atrium. Embarkation: Embarkation day was absolutely fine. Queues as normal and the ship was well presented for arrival. What was an issue was getting off at some ports when we needed to tender. You had to book your tender and they all say 12pm giving you no idea on when you needed to be ready by. My advise is to just pick the lowest number as this would let you on any tender after it anyway. Entertainment: Choir of Man 5/5 - Very entertaining show. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but it is a must watch. The lads were funny and the cast actually ended up at Yaya Beach in Mahahual where we were. Howl at the moon 5/5 - super entertaining alternative to a piano request bar. The guys were funny and talented and we had a really good time watching them. After Midnight 3.4/5 - The singers voices were amazing and dancers were really talented but the show overall didn't really have any story line or context so it felt a bit dragged out as everything was from the same genre/era. I do want to put emphasis how talented everyone was though. Value for Money: I would prioritize booking with NCL again as long as the free at sea upgrade offer remains. Because of this, I feel that NCL offer the best value for money in comparison to other cruise lines. Service / Staff: Service was top notch as expected. Everyone was smiley and friendly and happy to have a conversation with you. Bars can be slow at times but this is because everyone is ordering mudslides or cocktails that take longer to make. The bar staff actually do a great job to take as many orders at the same time as possible but what would be nice is to have some additional bar staff. Having stools right on the bar is a pain point of mine as I hate it when people sit and drink at the bar when it's busy. It's inconsiderate and makes it harder for anyone else to make an order. Our cabin steward was great and always kept us up to date and greeted us all the time. I've seen people complain about not getting towel animals but come on, It's 2020 - do we really to need carry on with this cheesy unnecessarily expectation? Jackie the cruise directory was professional and also funny. He did a great job entertaining everyone but also keeping everyone informed, lifting moods and getting everyone pumped up for a party. Wifi: We purchased the social media package as this offered unlimited usage and allowed us to contact each other as well as friends and family at home. As we are from the UK, roaming wasn't going to be available when off the ship. Signal strength and speed varied throughout ships location, and where you were on the ship. Nothing to write home about but at least you could write home. Summary: Great value for money cruise which managed to exceed our expectations after cruising with RCL OTS. Free at sea upgrade offer sets NCL apart and the staff and service on the ship was top notch. Highly recommend this ship unless you want to loose weight. Read Less

A little bit about us, we are 52 years old and have never cruised before. We wanted a vacation that was laid-back, upscale, and hassle free. A friend suggested that we try the Haven on NCL. After doing a bit of research we decided on Norwegian Escape. The boarding process was quick and efficient. And the Haven concierge staff was always accommodating and had answers to all of our questions. We were lucky enough to book an owner's suite with la large balcony, it was on the front of the ship with gorgeous views. Some days we didn't want to leave our balcony. We ate breakfast lunch and dinner at the Haven restaurant, along with Cagney's and Le Bistro, all of which were excellent. Because our demanding jobs deal with people 24/7, we were looking for a vacation that was hassle free and quiet. The Haven gave us that. We enjoyed exploring the rest of the ship, but primarily relaxed in the Haven lounge, Haven pool, and Haven sun deck. The Haven restaurant staff was always friendly, tidy, and excellent service. And the food was top notch. We were lucky enough to book an owner suite, room 18700. Our butler Mellany was always courteous and friendly, and quick to respond to our requests. Our cabin attendant Gina, did an excellent job every day, and when the light switch broke, she had maintenance repair it ASAP. Griffith at the Haven restaurant, always made us feel welcome and pampered, and always had a smile on his face. We would highly recommend NCL Haven to anyone looking for a pampered Caribbean cruise. Bad food couldn't find decent food tried multiple resturaunts ate at Brazilian buffet waited 10min btw meats to come around and was not busy Italian resturaunt sauce was bland pasta was thick and hard. Buffet food was same bland no flavour. Other than the regular menu items anything else never tasted right. Most of the food looked good but never tasted like it should. I'm not a picky eater but whoever was in charge of menu/ingredients should be fired. Pools were freezing cold not heated. Customer service destination was rude. And drinks were extremely over priced $20 for Hendrix gin and tonic. Ive never paid over $12 anywhere for same drink. Mixed drinks were inconsistant. Kids center was tiny and basic. Wifi was $39 a day and as soon as you get in the ship they must have a signal blocker cause cell phones don't work ever on upper deck while docked. This is about the 10th cruise I've been on and 1st with norwegain and will be my last with them. Positives room was roomy and clean. Ship was clean overall. Not very helpful in showing and listing shore excursions Read Less

This was our 3rd NCL cruise and the first on the Sun and the first with our 3 year old daughter. We booked last min, about 2 weeks out for an amazing price; so we didn't really do any up front research on the ship it was more of a case of the dates work, the itinerary looks ok the price is great lets do it! Getting There: We flew from NY to MCO that morning and had arranged a transfer through Norwegian. As Port Canaveral is about 45 mins from the airport this was both cost effective and convenient. We found the NCL rep easily in the baggage area and were directed downstairs to check in for the transfer. NCL has an easy to find desk with a big sign. We had a 30 min wait for the bus so we got some lunch from Starbucks while we waited. The transfer was smooth and efficient on a clean air conditioned bus. Upon arrival we left our bags to be loaded into the ship and headed inside; we arrived around 1:30 so expected to be able to walk straight on to the ship, instead we walked into complete chaos. Due to additional Cornovirus screening the lines were insane, luckily a member of staff noticed our by then extremely cranky toddler (who having gotten up at 5am and refused to nap on the plane was screaming the place down) and directed us to a special assistance line. We waited about 20 mins to get checked in and could then walk onto the ship. The Sun: The ship was awesome it was spotlessly clean and is probably now our favorite NCL ship. There are a few quirks in terms of layout but we decided we definitely prefer the smaller ships. Not once did it feel crowded, and not once did we have to wait on a long line; and it was easy to get reservations for dinner etc. at the times we wanted. Our favorite spot on sea days was the kids pool on deck 12; our 3 year old absolutely loved it and spent as much time there as possible; while we hung out with a drink. Every member of staff we interacted with was happy and helpful and especially treated my daughter really well. We didn't go to any shows or activities because my daughter has an early bed time. We tried to enroll her in splash academy; and the staff seemed really nice and they had some good activities planned for her age group; but she refused to be dropped off and had a melt down every time we tried. So we can't really rate the programs etc. in the splash academy. Our booking included free internet minuets but we found that it was so slow as to be worthless and we pretty much gave up on internet at sea. Dinning: We avoided the main dinning rooms; as to be honest we have never had a good main dinning room experience on any cruise we have ever taken. We ordered breakfast from the included continental breakfast room service menu in the morning so that we didn't have to rush out in the morning with or daughter who is up at 6am, and then went up to the buffet. We ate lunch at the buffet and had dinner in Cagneys, LeBistro and La Cucina as well as the buffet. Our booking included a drink package and a speciality dinning package which was totally worth it. Le Bistro was definitely the best meal we had on the ship, followed by Cagneys. The service in both was excellent. We really liked that they have an included kids meal in all restaurants across the ship so we could easily find something for our daughter. The staff were really accommodating and took great care of her. La Cucina was probably the worst experience we had; the service was just strange and seemed really disorganized and the food was bland and nothing special. The Buffet was great for breakfast and lunch but a bit confusing for dinner, the dinner selections just didn't make sense and were un interesting. However no matter what time we went there was always seating and it was very quiet at dinner time. Spa: We did use the Spa a lot; we both had massages and facials and I took my daughter to get her nails done. They kept offering really good promotions and we kept going back! The staff were amazing and so friendly. While smaller then Spas we have been to on other ships (they don't have a thermal suite) it was a nice space with really good treatments. Costa May: In Costa Maya we booked in to Maya Chan Beach. I think it was around $100 for the 3 of us and it was the best beach club experience we have ever had. We were met outside the port and put in a taxi by a Maya Chan rep who took us on a 20 min drive to the beach. Once there we were greeted by the owner and shown around. This is a beautiful off the beaten path location. Included in the price was a dedicated area with beach chairs, shade, a day bed, hammock and kids sand toys. All drinks, an amazing Mexican buffet (probably the best food we ate on the entire trip). Use of kayaks and floats and a pool, showers etc. If we go back to Costa Maya, Maya Chan will be our first stop. The only downside was the port itself. Its a very nice port with shops, restaurants, a pool, beach etc. but its very difficult to get out of if you don't want to stay there, and there are no signs pointing to the exits so very difficult to get out of. Cozumel: We booked the Playa Mia Beach Break with NCL; we had done this before but they have made some improvements. Our excursion included bus transfer, access to chairs, umbrellas, the beach, pools, kids waterpark, drinks and a buffet. It was really nice the staff kept brining drinks, and found a bucket of sand toys for our daughter. She loved the water park and pools. The only down side was the buffet was pretty awful and they had us return to the ship at 2:30 which seemed really early when we didn't need to be back on board until 4:30. The Port itself was similar to Costa May but a bit run down; like a maze again so that it was hard to find our way back to the ship as they wanted you to go via the shops. Disembarkation: Getting off the ship was a breeze; we walked off at 8: 30am with our bags, got on a bus and was at the airport by 10am. They had this cool new facial recognition immigration and customs clearance that they were doing as you walked off the ship so you were cleared in seconds with no lines. Overall we had an awesome trip and would definitely return to the Sun. Read Less

Four friends just returned 02/12/20 from Norwegian Sun cruise to Costa Maya and Cozumel. The entire cruise was wonderful from the stateroom to the yummy food to the entertainment. We ate at two specialty restaurants, La Cucina and Cagney’s. The food in La Cucina was delicious. Two people ordered the tbone steak. It was great. Cagney’s was simply superb! Best steak any of us had ever had. And the OMG cheesecake was delicious. Our steward was very attentive. When we arrived the bottom drawer was broken. We told Elias and it was fixed early the next day. One day, our air quit working. When we reported it to Elias, he told us it was already reported because he noticed it was hot in there. It was fixed promptly. Dinners at Seven Seas or Four Seasons were delicious. Breakfast and lunches at the Garden Cafe and the Outdoor Cafe were good. Bar staff were jovial and made drinks to our specifica. Crew had smiles on the time. The adult comedy show was really funny. Read Less

Good: Beautiful Ship. Well appointed. Very clean & nice graphics. This was our 20th cruise. Second on Norwegian. Room Steward was great. Bad: First experience was on the Dawn. was not good but, wanted to try again. Will not be a third time. Embarkation was slow. We were with 3 other couples and stopped at security and two of us had items confiscated. Pair of pliers and a small fan. Did not see a list of these items prior to boarding. Then we had to pay a corking fee for our wine before we could board. Cannot bring any water or soda aboard but is available at a cost on board. Rooms were not ready so we had a beer and cocktail while we waited. Total cost was $9.06 for beer and 13.00 for cocktail. Around 3 pm the rooms were ready. Balcony room was good except for the Balcony its self. Very small and I am a thin person but has to turn chairs sideways to stretch my feet out. Pool is very small and very crowded. Smoking hut is very close to it. Gym was unmanned and no towels available. No beach towels in room. Had to go to appointed stations to obtain. Meals were served by Norwegian employees ( including Buffet) and slowed whole process down. Had to go to a plate station to get a plate. After three days this was changed back to normal. Most everything had to be reserved. Ugly: Ship holds over 4,000 guests. None of there entertainment areas were built to hold this capacity. Therefore you have to reserve almost any non cost event. Space fills up very quickly. We were overcharged on drinks every day for the three days we drank at a certain restaurant. Food orders were wrong also. Went to Cagney's steak house. A paid venue and everything was Al a carte. Small baked potato was $7.00. Came with no butter or sour cream. Waiter disappeared so we had to get the hostess to find him so we can get butter & sour cream. Steak was OK but time we had a few items bill was $72.00 and that was with us splitting a steak. Overall ship seems understaffed. Service waits are lengthy and not acceptable. Comedy club was booked up every night. We are seasoned cruisers and we know this is not representative of the industry. We decided on this cruise because of the great price offered by NCL. We had a mid ship balcony and took advantage of the 4 perk deal. I will review the items and places we visited and if not mentioned it's due to the fact we just didn't use that facility. Getting the ship was a breeze. We paid $100 for the VIP check in. What a great decision on that. We arrived at the ship around 1130 and security took about 5 minutes. We went up the elevator and there were probably 200 folks in line for check in. The VIP line had NOBODY. We were checked in and headed to the boat in less than 5 minutes. Walked onto the Sun by 1150. We purchased our water for th We trip and it was delivered to the room later in the day. We went to the MDR for lunch and to just settle down a little after a lot of walking and standing. A++++ for getting onboard. We ate in the MDR several times during the cruise. We had three breakfasts, three dinners, and one lunch in the MDR. The one consistent factor for every meal was slow service. Several meals took over an hour and it wasn't busy at all. Drinks were fine, coffee was delivered fast, but the main course just seemed to take forever. The food was good, not great, the servers were very friendly and seemed to apologize a lot for the slow service. We had lunch at Garden Cafe once and it was really good. Good service and good burgers and hot dogs. Our two nights of fine dining consisted of Cagney's and Moderno. The food was really good at Cagney's but the service was bad. Same with Moderno. Others seemed to be getting much better service, so hit or miss. ett We had breakfast room service twice, larger menu included free with the VIP check in package. Both days the order was completely messed up. Two things of hot water and no coffee the first day. Second day was no syrup with waffles, no milk for cereal. They seem to be trying but NCL just didn't seem to have the small things down like other cruise lines. Wife used the spa service twice. First time toes and fingers and the 2nd time 90 minute hot stone massage. Both were well done and wife stated the masseuse worked her problem areas and she did a great job. I had drinks, several at some of them, at most of the bars. Service was fine, the pool area bars got busy during the day but that is normal. The table/lounger service could be better and that would shorten the lines at the bar. I tried to enjoy a cigar or two but the only place to smoke was the Topsider Bar. The wind was blowing around 20-60 mph most days so not really good at all. No indoor smoking and that's OK but don't sell cigars in a bar (Spinnaker Bar) and then say no smoking. Drinks were good, we are a coke family and this is a pepsi ship. Coffee was very good everywhere I drank it. Miller Lite was always cold and refreshing. The pools were terrible, water temp around 35 it seemed. Most people in the pool that we saw was maybe 5 at a time. Hot tubs busy but pools not so much. Pool music was really good both life and recorded. We went to one show and it was OK. The music in the bars at night seemed really good and there were large crowds for some acts. The casino was good, we made a few bucks during the week. Disembarking was great. We carried our bags and left our room at 710. At 722 we were off the ship waiting for our ride to our car. There was not customs, just a face recognition camera and keep on walking. We filled out no paperwork, no questions, no hiding the extra bottle, just a great experience getting off the ship. We have cruised Carnival 5 times. Celebrity twice (another this April) and this was our first NCL trip. We may try NCL again with a larger ship. Costa Maya was nothing great. We enjoy Cozumel and went downtown for a great lunch and some shopping. We had to tender in Cozumel as there were 9 ships in port. We had no problem with the tenders but others had terrible experiences (they can write about them since not really my experience). NCL has a lot of good going for them, but seem a little short in regards to service. Those working on the ship were very friendly and always said hello or good morning and called you by name after running your card for your purchase. We did not travel with kids or with a group. Not a lot of children on the ship and average age would be around 51for the guests. Cruise entertainers seemed to be very upbeat and engaging with guests. Read Less

Chose this cruise on a bit of a last minute special. We got Balcony Cabin for a great deal. I was a little skeptical due to the other reviews but don't listen to those negative cruisers. This was a fantastic cruise for my wife and I and worth every penny. The ship is bit older but still in great shape, clean, and serviceable where it counts. BE AWARE OF THIS THOUGH: It is best for adults and not first time cruisers. There is an extreme lack of outdoor kid activities versus what the big mega-ships are offering these days. There is no water slide, splash pad, etc. There did seem to be a kids club of some sort but not many children on the boat. If I were a first time cruiser I might be slightly disappointed. Embarkation: Security was very easy and fast. Just a normal Xray and walk-through metal detector. Everything was fast. We waited for the 12pm rush to die down before getting into the line and it went perfect...was on the boat in about 15 minutes. Cabin: We had Cabin 9075. It is located in far aft port side of the ship. I was skeptical but the room was PERFECT. A bit smaller inside (not much smaller) but the extended balcony more than made up for it. We had two chairs and two loungers to relax on. It was great! People reviewed that beds were uncomfortable. Couldn't disagree more...I thought the bed was very comfortable. One minor complaint is not being able to hear the announcements in the cabin. Food: We are not "foodies" but we enjoyed almost everything we had. We had dinner at Cagney's and La Cucina for the specialty restaurants. Both were spectacular. For dinner we also did Four Seasons and Seven Seas. Both were great but service was pretty slow. We had to rush the end of dinner at Four Seasons in order to make the magic show. Entertainment: Keith Bender, the comedian, was pretty funny and like-able...worth seeing. The magician was awesome. This was the best show of the cruise. We also saw the "broadway" style show called Rock You Tonight. Pretty cheesy and could have done without. The house band was terrific though. Be sure to catch their Cole Porter tribute in the Atrium. They are true musicians. Ports: Costa Maya and Cozumel. I'm always a bit frustrated with the lack of time in ports but both were nice. Did booked excursions that were not through NCL. Overall I would love to do this cruise again anytime. If you are wondering if it's worth it just now that it's very relaxing vs. many other cruises. It's a bit of an older crowd. Read Less

Decided to try NCL due to price and Free at Sea promotion. I’ve cruised previously with Princess and Royal Caribbean. Unfortunately, NCL paled in comparison. Food quality was good in the main dining room and specialty restaurants. The buffet Food quality and selection was underwhelming. Comedy show at Headliners was entertaining. If you want to see other entertainment, make sure you reserve your spot early through NCL’s website. We didn’t, and the only available show times were at 10pm or later, which doesn’t work when you have a shore excursion at 7-8 the next morning. The casino slot machines gobbled up our money like PacMan. Other games like Deal or No Deal, Bingo, and pull tab cards were just tacky money grabs by NCL. The Deal or No Deal cards cost $29 each, and there were over 100 participants in the game I attended. Only 2 people won slightly more than $50. We had a mid ship balcony room. We called guest services immediately because we had no electricity in room. They told us to put room key in slot near door to turn it on. HEY NCL, HOW ABOUT TELLING PASSENGERS THAT BEFORE THEY ENTER THEIR ROOMS?!? Room size was adequate for 2. The balcony was small. The furnished shampoo/conditioner combo dried out my hair like straw. Bring your own! Cabin steward, Omar, did an excellent job and was one of the bright spots of the cruise. Disembarkation was a frustrating, disorganized cluster. The only instruction provided was a vaguely worded paragraph in their daily newsletter. On the final day, Passengers who were handling their own luggage, which was most of them, were instructed via loudspeaker to disembark first. The exit deck (7) got too congested, so access to that deck was closed off, and passengers were directed to deck 8. Those passengers had to carry their luggage down the stairs from deck 8 to 7. We saw elderly women struggling to carry their large suitcases down the stairs. Totally appalling and a major safety hazard. NCL needs to assign departure times and stations to all passengers like the other lines. Read Less

I personally thought that Norwegian did a good job with amenities. The ropes course on the boy was absolutely a blast. The restaurants where awesome. From the Tropicana room, to taste, and o’sheehans bar. All had different atmospheres, and different styles of food. It really felt like we were at different restaurants each night. So food was good. The comedians on board did a great job too. Hilarious. The game shows where we’ll done also. All in all, plenty to eat, plenty to do. However, The service left a bad taste about the whole deal. I chose this cruise because the dates worked with my schedule. Upon arrival I had found out our travel ad visor through NCL had lied to us about our room. We were told we would get a room that had a pull out couch and a queen bed. When we arrived the room was two beds off the wall and a queen bed. We traveled with 2 couples. That's why we paid for the cruise, 2 couples can sleep together. Well that was not the case. They had to sleep separate. Which sucked right from the get go. The rest of the cruise was okay. Almost zero customer service though. I had to grab a seat to sit down an old lady. Come on. That was just the beginning. When we go tour bill there were plenty of $15 service fees. Could not get an explanation from anyone so I figured I would call and speak to someone that i can communicate with a little better back home. Call the line and guess what, it hangs up on you and tells you to fill out a form online. At the end, they say to wait 4-6 weeks and someone will email you. Just spend the extra money on a better cruiseline, or save the money and go cheaper. I liked everything else though, don't get me wrong. But with all being considered, at this point I will never be cruising with them again, and will make sure anyone I know will not. Read Less

Pricing was very low on this Balcony cabin. We are seasoned cruisers with 20 thus far and had been on the Dawn prior to this and had not had a great experience, so decided to give Norwegian another try. Start with embarkation. We traveled with 3 other couples 2 couples had various items confiscated. Small fan, Pliers for vapor cigarette. Had these items been posted on website we would not have bothered. Then it was on to paying a corking charge for wine $30.00. Cannot bring water or any soft drinks on the ship. Finally on board it was around one pm. Room was not ready. Around 3.00 room was ready. Balcony room was ok but balcony its self was very small. Had to turn chairs sideways to have leg room. On to bookings. You have to reserve everything on this ship. Reservations are required. Same with dining if you chose not to go freestyle, Comedy clubs etc. Alcohol is very expensive. $9.06 for a beer and upward of 12 to 15 dollars for a mixed drink. All include a 20% gratuity. Dining in Dining room was adequate. Quality of the food was average. We did find a little sit down restaurant on Deck 7 that had a morning special on Mimosas & Bloody Mary's from 7 to 11 for $5.95. Just by chance though as this is not advertised, Pool area is very small and crowded as this ship has over 4,000 passengers, Best part was our Room Steward he was sensitive to our needs and kept room very clean. They do not furnish towels in room for offshore activities. You have to check those out at a certain area. Were no towels or staff members in the gym also. There also just two sets of elevators were most cruise ships have three. Ship had outstanding graphics and was beautifully decorated. Very clean. Overall there were some other plus items for us but our thinking was when you add all the extras that other lines allow as a courtesy and high Alcohol costs and cost of some services it was not for us. Will not repeat. Disembarkation was delayed by several hours due to high winds which was unavoidable. Read Less

We are just back from a very nice 5 day cruise. The ship looks great, we were last on board 3 years ago for a Baltic cruise. Check in at New Orleans port was fine; we started the cruise off well with a Mojito at the Sugarcane bar and then went to the open main dining room and had a very nice lunch to start off. Cabins were ready about 1:30. This was our first experience at the specialty restaurants and they were wonderful. Cagneys (with the wonderful Aileen) was just great. We also had a very good meal at Le Bistro. We had breakfasts in the Buffet most mornings or at the main dining rooms on Sea days, and these are also very good. The drink packages work well, the bartenders and different options to drink were fine. The Sugarcane bar was a favorite and I am glad we found the outside part; the young woman bartender was just great. This was our 7th cruise with NCL; and yes this is the only cruise line we have been on so I have no comparisons. But I have not felt the need to look elsewhere; as NCL does a great job. There was a delay coming into port (I guess coming up the Mississippi may not be easy) but we were able to stay in our balcony cabin and enjoy the sunshine until we could leave, so it was all fine. All of the areas I saw of the ship were clean and fresh looking. Our cabin was kept spotless (and comfortable). There were some warm sea days and while we did not buy a Vibe pass, we did not have a problem finding space for the two of us to sit outside. With hindsight, I would consider buying a Vibe pass or a Spa pass, as that also looked great. We will be back on NCL Read Less

We've sailed with NCL many times (platinum latitude status) and this is the first time we've felt the need to complain. This ship is not equipped to handle the number of passengers they accommodate. Getting on and off the ship was a nightmare, tenders were poorly organized (we actually didn't get off at one of our ports of call because we stood in the line for over an hour and didn't move, so we just went back to our room). The buffet was like a horror show - breakfast, especially. There were never enough places to sit if and when you were able to fight your way through the crowds and somehow manage to salvage a plate of cold food. The 2 small main dining rooms were an option but only until 9 or 9:30 and the largest of the main dining rooms did not open for breakfast. Trying to get into any of the shows, even the ones we had to have a reservation for, was like trying to fight your way through a black Friday shopping crowd. The smaller venues offered shows but were full to capacity at least 45 minutes prior to the show even though they advertised they would open the door 30 minutes prior. The pool area was just shoulder to shoulder people and the music was so loud you couldn't have any type of conversation. The seats were setup like a theatre throughout the middle of the pool area with loungers around the outside - probably to accommodate more people. I witnessed a bartender refilling a customer's used glass - touching it with the ice scoop as well as the sangria spout. I let him know he should not be doing that and I was completely ignored. I reported it to the supervisor but never got a response. If this was the first cruise we had taken we would never take another one. The smaller ships have, in our experience, been much more enjoyable - we wish we had our money back for this one! You need to pay attention, NCL - there's lots of competition out there! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we have cruised the eastern Caribbean many times with P & O, flying directly to Barbados. Cruising from NYC to the Western Caribbean offered something different, with a different cruise line and a very different demographic on board. The Bliss is a lovely ship but, as others have noted, there are simply too many people for the on-board facilities. Rather than attempt a complete review of all the facilities, I would like to focus on certain features of the current offering from NCL, both good and bad. Firstly, the Free at Sea promotion, where customers get the choice of two out of five packages. The Premium Beverage package is a must have, and it works well. The limit per drink is about $15, compared with the rather more stingy $9.99 on the Celebrity Classic Drinks package. In fact, so many people were on the Premium Beverage package that the barmen were run off their feet, and there were nowhere near enough drinks waiters. Also, in the last couple of cruise days the ship had actually run out of most varietals of white wine - tough luck if you don't like Chardonnay. The second choice from the 2 out of 5 was a difficult one. We had chosen five meals at speciality dining venues, because this seemed the best value. However, in the final weeks before the cruise I realised this was a mistake. Why? Because it became apparent that so many other people had chosen this package that it was impossible to get a booking at the restaurant of your choice and the time of your choice. I changed our second package to the excursions credit ($50 credit per stateroom per daily excursion). Once on the ship I did not regret this change, as it was very difficult to get speciality restaurant bookings at convenient times. This was another problem arising from the popularity of the Free at Sea promotion. Entertainment: again, too many people on board. Seating at the entertainment offerings had to be pre-booked. As soon as we got on board we attempted to do this. Guess what? No seats at Jersey Boys throughout the whole cruise, apart from one 10.30 slot on one day. Message to NCL: This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. Guests should NOT have to compete or queue for seats at the entertainment offerings. Embarking at Manhattan: a total nightmare! Thousands of people being herded like cattle. After checking in and receiving our cruise cards, mine was rejected twice at the final gate, I suspect because the agent checking us in was new to the job. Result: hours of queueing, re-queueing and re-re-queueing. Checking in at Southampton cruise port is a complete breeze by comparison. Never again! Getting on and off board ship during the cruise: at ports where we had docked, this was borderline acceptable. After all, on a ship this size you do expect a bit of queueing. At the 3 ports where we had to tender, getting on and off the ship was very very tedious: hours of queueing in the bowels of the ship. We have cruised on big ships before (eg Anthem of the Seas) but have never experienced scenes like this. Service in the main dining rooms: very patchy, but this is not the fault of the staff, who do their best despite being run off their feet. Internet: acceptably fast, but the usual rip-off. Unbelievably, the NCL app only worked when you were connected to the internet, which means it was totally unusable unless you had paid up for full internet access. We reserved our precious minutes for sending and receiving emails. This system is so inferior to the set up on Anthem of the Seas, where the Royal Caribbean app is available at all times, whether or not you are connected to the internet. The Latitudes loyalty scheme: there was no mention of this when buying excursions with the stateroom TV. I assumed that our 10% discount off shore excursions would be applied at the end of the cruise. When I noticed that it was NOT applied, I was told at the desk that I should have asked for it!!! Admittedly, an adjustment was made at that point - I have no idea whether it was correct or not, but..... Message to NCL: Loyalty schemes which are not automatically applied at the point of purchase are COMPLETELY USELESS!!! I could go on about the ludicrous nature of the service charges at speciality restaurants, self service wine dispensers in the Garden Restaurant, the fact that water is not included in the Premium Beverage package, but perhaps I am being unreasonable. I think I am being generous in giving this cruise an overall rating of 2 out of 5. Read Less

The overall experience on the Norwegian Bliss was just alright. One of the things you need to be prepared for is the constant service fees, 20% gratuity charges (which is already paid for ahead of time, so you shouldn't have to pay again) and other fees for relatively stupid things. Half of the ports we went to, we needed to be tendered in, which was a real pain. It would delay the whole day by at least an hour or two and there were so many people it was hard to get around ANYWHERE. Not to mention if you're disabled and need a scooter, forget about getting on the island from a tender. Have fun trying to find a show, there were only two offered for the entire 14 day cruise, as well as only two showtimes a night to choose from. The food wasn't the best, really could have made something better at home most of the time. The dining service absolutely sucked, barely asked you what you wanted to eat, let alone make conversation with you. Overall, not very impressed with the ship, just enjoyed the ports themselves. I do not recommend this boat, perhaps the other boats would be nice, but 4,000 people are just too many, and it takes a lot away from the experience both on shore and off. Read Less

We sailed on NCL Bliss on 14-day Western Caribbean cruises out of NYC so on Feb 2, 2020s. The ship visited Cape Canaveral. Great Stirrup Bay in Bahamas, Ochorios in Jamaica, George Town in Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize, Maya coast and Cozumel Mexico. Great cruise and good staff. We had a standard balcony cabin 12722 on deck 12 with plenty of room for the two of us. Nice ship with lots specialty restaurants good. Buffet was great - better quality food than the general dining (hotter, more variety, very nicely prepared and presented. The only 'complaint' is that there is too much salt added to food throughout. We don't use salt at home, so really notice it We didn't participate in any of the 'activities' like bingo or quiz shows but they had some good entertainment. the 'Beatles' group was standing room only at every show - they needed a bigger venue! They had a rock/pop band who did a good job, and the 'Jersey Boys' was a great performance. Six Boleyn was also good musical described life of King Henry VIII through his 6 wives. There was live music in moist lounges (District Brew House, Mojito bar, atrium and observation lounge). The observation lounge was a great place to get a comfy chair and snack, I spent my days there reading the book, “SEA OF POPPIES” by Amitav Ghosh describing the story of Opium production and trade by the British India company. ON 2nd day Sea day we had cruise critic meet and Greet met the GM of the ship. Sharon complained about lack of body lotion in the bathroom. He took our cabin number and instructed our room attended to supply steady supply of Bulgari body lotion. Afterwards I mentioned him today is Sharon’s birthday. After we came back from lunch our cabin was decorated with Happy birthday sign, Streamers and balloons. He also sent some specialty Chocolate, a bottle of wine. Sharon, her cousin and Aunt enjoyed the wine. I was not happy with luncheon menu at the main dining room. I complained to the Maître Dee. He said I should eat at taste of India. I looked up the Executive Chef Sreekanth Sundram and spoke to him. He informed me Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available for vegetarians at the” Taste of India”. Next morning to my surprise I had an excellent breakfast with Vada, Uthappam, Sambar, Chutney, poori, Potato, with Masala Chai. I also met Rohith Gokulakrishnan Executive Sous Chef from Chennai, Chef Balappan. Everyday I had a feast for breakfast, lunch and dinner We went on Shore excursion on Airboat and crocodile farm in Florida, tour of countryside of Jamaica, Roatan tour to see mangrove reserve, shipwreck and to a beach to watch a local show. Next day we visited the Maya ruins and spice farm in Belize. 9th we visited Mayan coast to see Mayan temple. At Cozumel we visited Mayan Chocolate Farms to learn about history of Chocolates use by Mayans and how Spaniards modified to fit the western taste. Then we visited Mayan Honeybee farm amid the forest. I learned there is no pure Mayan blood descendant, most of them descent of Mayan and Spanish descendants, the last Mayan died in 1850 Overall this cruise is excellent on a new ship with 4,000 capacity. May be less than 10% were people under 40 years old. Most of the guests were seniors, some on walking with Canes, others cruising around on their scooters which took most of the space on the elevators. We were on Deck 12. Most of the entertainments and dining rooms are on Deck 6-8. The Garden Café is deck 16 and lounge is on Deck 15. It is really a struggle to get into the elevators during breakfast, lunch and dinner time. There are 16 elevators for 4,000 peoples which is a handicap. Sometimes I used stairs with huffing and puffing. WE returned on Sunday the 16th after dropping Sharon’s aunt and cousin at the airport for their onward journey to the frozen tundra of Saskatchewan Read Less

We cruised on the Norwegian Bliss February 2-16, 2020. It is a beautiful ship, very ornate and modern. Our cabin had plenty of room for the both of us and the balcony was wonderful. The food in the buffet was delicious and plentiful. There is definitely something for everyone The specialty dining was wonderful. We are at Los Kobos, La Cucina, Teppynaki (twice), and Cagney's. It was a great experience at all of them . That being said, I did find it intrusive to my dinner, to have the photographer taking photos at the dinner table. We started each day with a coffee and juice from the observation lounge which is on deck 15, as was our cabin . Then back to the cabin to get ready for a new wonderful day. Breakfast at the Garden Cafe is phenomenal. So many options to choose from. They make your omelette to order and your eggs. There's French toast, pancakes sausage, bacon biscuits and gravy, cold and hot cereals, lots of fruits, etc. Lunch has a burger bar, Asian food, Indian Food, deli good, pasta, pizza, hot entrees. Dinner was a lot of the same as lunch but each night a new special, lamb, prime rib, roast beef, suckling pig, etc. All of this is part of the buffet. No one is going hungry. There was Savor and Taste has complimentary restaurants. We ate here a couple of times too. They both are pretty much the same thing. The bars and Lounge's were great. We had the beverage package and definitely took advantage of it. From Bloody Mary, to frozen drinks to beer to shots to mixed drinks, the staff serve you with a smile and a heavy pour hand. The bartenders in Spice H2O had the fastest bartenders. However, Spice H2O is also where the smoking room is, so if you don't like smoke, I don't recommend this bar. We enjoyed shopping on the ship and collecting our charms. The $10 mega sale seemed to be a huge hit with everyone. The jewelry shop has some very beautiful items and lots of giveaways. The artwork up for auction and for sale was interesting. A little something for everyone.. The auctions are quite fun. The entertainment was so much fun. We saw The Jersey Boys, a fantastic show. We also saw the Beatles Experience and all I can say is WOW! WHAT A GREAT PERFORMANCE!! We went to a couple of the comedy shows and they were very fun. I laughed so hard my sides hurt. The best show of all was the crew talent show. What a very talented crew indeed. The excursions were so much better than I could have imagined. The tendering was quick and easy and very organized. Getting back on the ship was quick and easy as well. We did a lot of shopping at the various ports as well. The snorkeling was out of this world. I've never seen such beautiful waters before. The onboard entertainment was fun as well we didn't participate in Bingo, but it sure was popular. Deal or No Deal was a bit expensive but fun. The Dance competition was hilarious. We did a few of the trivia games and had fun. The parties at the pool we're fun as well. If you want a seat at the pool on sea days, you need to be there early. The movies at night on the pool deck are best enjoyed in a hot tub. JC was our cruise director and he is fantastic. He is the perfect man for the job. He's funny and energetic. You can catch him on the morning show with Alex every day giving you Information about the days activities. The Captain was very nice. Each time we saw him, he was cordial and friendly. As a matter of fact, the entire staff was super friendly and helpful. Our steward was just amazing every day. He started all our days with a smile and conversation and ended each day the same. He did a great job . Thank you I Ketut. The go-carts and slides wete a blast This was my first time cruising and I can't wait to cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

We chose the Bliss because of an excellent experience on the Gem October 2019 for Halloween. We’ve been away from NCL for a while enjoyed RCL but there activities have been lacking lately. So loving the Ncl dancing opportunities. Every night we enjoyed the sugarcane mojitos bar with excellent music from Gold river duo. Excellent ginger mojitos. Great drink called Saturn landing. But the dancing was amazing. Every night the Latinos would help us to dance. Met wonderful people from Spain and all over the USA. Excellent party. Later in the evening we would finish up dancing in the Social club. Excellent comedy in social club. Our favorite was Kenny Garcia from Brooklyn nyc. Funny guy and very friendly and sarcastic. Loved Kenny. Beatles in the Carvern club and theatre were amazing. We did the racetrack and it’s a blast. Same for water slide. Almost every night time was a theme party by pool or h2o club. Excellent activities staff. Tiago Alves, Queena, Thomas, Shakara, asst. cruise director Alexander was amazing. Our favorite was Liz from South Africa a wonderful young lady. Jersey Boys were amazing. Play 6 excellent and the wonderful Breanna in pink hair was amazing. Breanna was dancing with us every night. If you’re healthy and active this ship is excellent. You’re going to love it. We can’t wait to return. My wife and I are 65 and have 40 plus cruises. This was one of the best. We might be loyal to Ncl now as RCL is a little boring. Read Less

This was our 4th cruise with Norwegian first on the Breakaway. I have never experienced a more reluctant crew to provide service. Many staff members were too busy talking/visiting with each other or cell phones. Here is our list of disappointments regarding poor customer service on our 7 day excursion. 1. Stateroom- steward removed our opened wine bottle and our chocolates that we set aside. I called and he claimed he didn’t do it. 2. Never had a casino host come to welcome us. (We are Casino at sea members- spend $1-4K each trip) 3. Casino bar staff never came to us we always had to stop them as they were headed elsewhere. 4. Buffet was messy, food mediocre at best. 5. Staff never says “I’m sorry, let’s see what we can do.” Instead they try to give you an excuse. 6. Disembarkation was a little confusing- at the end 2 lines but no warning or reason. We got in line and asked for documents. ??? We have passports- then told one line for passports, one for people without and some sort of Stickers/documents. What does that mean? Why not a sign stating - Passports this line no passports this line?? Pretty simple instead of getting in wrong line! 7. Last night of trip vacuum was running in our hallway at 1:30 ! a.m. ! Then we had our do not disturb sign on at 8:15 a.m. and had a knock on door wanting to check mini bar. I think they could wait until it was our turn to get in line for disembarking. 8. We even tipped cash - additional to wait staff in casino bar hoping that would entice them to come back to take drink order again- but that didn’t work either. 9. Many of the hand sanitizers stations were empty multiple days. During the Corona virus scar you would think it would be a high priority. 10. Restrooms in high congregation places were closed during high use. Many times this happened- at least once every evening. Find a better way to schedule this or don’t close completely during evening dinner times 11. I asked for comment card on last night. I was told they were out. I again asked for something to write a review on and was given a “hero” card. The cards I was given were already filled out. I asked the same customer service person for one that was blank. He walked a few steps and again gave me “hero” cards. I used one of those to give a review. 12. During disembarkation again multiple hand sanitizers either not working or empty. 13. In my opinion perhaps the guaranteed gratuity that is added is expected by staff and they don’t seem interested in going above and beyond. I receive multiple Norwegian certificates from Caesars rewards each year. I suggest that Caesars use a different cruise line in the future if their patrons are treated this way. Not sure if I will use another certificate with Norwegian. Caesars casino treats their clients much better! Read Less

It's been years since we sailed on NCL, but we thought we would give it a try. Major disappointment. The show/entertainment was sub-par. The food in the dining room ms and buffet were awful, but the service was good. Our room Stewart was very rude. The casino set up was cool. Embarkation was smooth. The entire cruise seemed disorganized. We had a storm which stopped the tenders from running, so we ended up with an unexpected sea day. Our next excursion was to the beach in Jamaica. It was raining when we left, but the coordinator said we were going to the other side of the island and it would take about an hour, do the rain should pass. It didn't, and we got torential rains all day. When we returned to the ship and complained, they did give us 25 percent back.... oh boy. The cruise director had no idea what to do and people were all sitting around looking lost. NCL just kept nickel and diming us the entire cruise. We prefer Carnival and will be headed back, fast! Also, the magician and comedian were great The breakfast and lunch at the buffet were very good, as was the food in the Bistro. THe show Six was ok, but not our favorite. Big negative was having to make reservations for the shows, the specialty restaurants and even the tenders going to and from shore. The dinner the fist night in the Manhattan room was very bad. Could not eat the onion soup as it was too salty and the scallops were mushy. We paid to eat at Cagney's steak house and my filet mignon was a dry piece of very thin steak. The staff was very professional and efficient, although they did not take time to learn your names. The staff in the Bistro French restaurant was the best on the ship. Read Less
