We have cruised many times, including on NCL 3 or 4 times. Even though this cruise had problems due to the weather, that part of the cruise was not in their control, so this has nothing to do with that. The good points were: the ship was very clean and kept that way. There were some nice workers, not many though. Had great on board entertainment. Negatives: Oddly, had several dirty table cloths during our dining experiences at the white table cloth seating's during breakfast. Most of the people who worked on this ship were not very cordial. Normally they are pleasant and full of energy and talkative, about 90% of the workers in all areas in all restaurants and bars seemed very tired, bored, way too serious, always seemed that when we asked for something we were bothering them. The area where they showed movies maybe sat 80 people, but it was a bar, and a tiny screen, was ridiculous. Most of us left the movie because the seating was so poor due to people taking chairs and moving them up front in front of the screen. All the other ships we have ever been on on NCL, RCL and Carnival all had actual theaters to watch movies. Game room only sat about 20 people, with over 4,000 aboard, Too small My son sent us Champagne. When we got to the room it was sitting in the silver container in room temperature water, not ice. We will not go on this ship again, it was way too small , crowded, not enough seating in public areas, stood alot. Just was not a pleasant experience. Food was average, really average. Definitley not the experience we have had on the other NCL ships we have been on. Read Less

Where to start? we have travelled for years both ocean and river cruising, and never on a mega-ship before! To begin with, if you like your sleep! forget it! this modern ship has cabin doors which are of the automatic slam shut ! variety, consequently 24/7 doors are being slammed the length of the vast corridors, and no one thought to hang on to the handles as the doors closed, why 24/7? because of discos and casinos there was always something going on. As for the dining! being of a free style variety! you either joined the chaos of top deck diners, with all of its constant noise, and shoving to get food and find a table, or you joined a few free restaurants which in the evenings were so popular (no surprise!) that you then had to queue before a table became free. Obviously you could choose to pay extra and dine elsewhere. With most busy ships numbers of passengers can disappear with many activities but with 4,000 passengers and approx. 1500 crew there was no where to escape to apart from the llibrary and the smokers room!! A word of warning, if using the main theatre which is canted so everyone gets a good view, however near the top of the stairs two short steps follow each other so that the number of people stumbling and even falling, occurred each night we were there, one night an elderly gentleman stumbled down them and went crashing into a seat back, did anyone care? Needless to say a stop in Stockholm was cancelled because of bad weather (this is quite often the case as its a floating dock!), so we had to spend two days of a short 10 day break going slow to waste time. If we missed the stop why could we not have made it a day earlier to Copenhagen as compensation, as it was for the two days the decks were roped off! so had to stay inside, and as many ended up with the ships cough! at $250 dollars for a brief visit with the ships GP and a few antibiotic tablets. Norwegian Cruise Lines Breakaway Baltic Cruise Sept-Oct 2018: It may be Norwegian Cruise Lines but it wasn't a Norwegian sea captain! THE TRIP First they changed the itinerary 2 days before departure and we had to travel to a different city for embarkation. The announced $300 reimbursement per person is forthcoming from the "home office" once we submit all the paperwork. It cost us about $400 each to make the changes in flights and hotels. Then the "home office" once again made a last minute change to the itinerary and we missed 3 out of 6 ports of call due to weather and bad planning. We wondered why the captain wimped out because the ferry boats were running between Helsinki and Tallinn. It meant another day trapped on the boat being nickel and dimed on everything. NCL only reimbursed 30% of the port tax fees for the 3 missed ports. I sent in laundry and a brand new shirt came back with a rip in it and after haggling with customer service I lost money on their damaged laundry reimbursement policy. I bought 4 bottles of duty free drink and they only delivered 3 the night before disembarking. By then I was too tired to go fight it out with the "customer service" staff and just kept packing so I could get off the next morning. THE SHIP Balcony staterooms are OK, bathrooms are well designed. Since the ship missed the port that resupplied coffee pods there was only decaf coffee in the rooms. The cafeteria food was acceptable, nothing notable but the coffee really bad. Went for $8 cappuccinos in the lobby (NOT part of the drinks package.) The casino is smack in the middle of the ship on two floors. Smelled like cat pee carpet, old smoke, and people logging too much butt-time. The big screen with CONSTANT noise was right next to the customer service so likely the staff only every heard every other word of complaint which would explain a lot. Cold hot tubs, cold pool. "Enrichment" experiences pathetic. Loud singing/music in the restaurants. Had to walk out of one show that was ear-splitting. Noise everywhere on the ship that had a hobbit-sized library which was occupied continually. Nowhere to get any quiet time and no decent sitting furniture in the balcony staterooms. Previous experience on Celebrity Cruise Lines was much better. Read Less

This was supposed to be an incredible trip - two sisters exploring 5 exotic Baltic Sea ports. Only it turned out to be 2 Baltic Sea ports, a lot of excuses and non compensation for our ruined vacation. Let me start with the fact that my sister and I booked the 9 day Baltic Sea cruise to see Berlin, Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallin and St. Petersburg in Sept of 2018. Our trip started with the cruise line telling us that our first port (Berlin) was cancelled and that we would remain in Copenhagen an extra day. They knew about this over 48 hours before we embarked and failed to tell us. They claim that they emailed us. But no one we spoke to received the email. They cancelled 2 more of our ports even though we watched ferries and other boats make the trip. They said that the port of St. Petersburg was closed due to flooding so we had to wait another day. But they could have rearranged our itinerary to allow us to visit at least 1 more port. The staff was surly - servers on other cruise lines have always been jovial and friendly. These servers looked like they were being inconvenience by us sitting at their table. And that was after we had to wait up to 90 minutes for a table for "freestyle dining " (which sucks by the way - make a reservation and you won't have to wait as long. Oh - but you can't make those reservations on the ship - they had to be done in advance). We sat or stood outside with a pager waiting for a table for 2. I would have walked out at home - but here you are stuck. And since this time of year was cold and we couldn't sit outside, we were looking for a quiet place to sit and read a book. We were told that the only place was the library - that had 10 seats for a ship with 4000 passengers. You couldn't sit in the Atrium where there was loud games (sorry, the Newlywed Game isn't for everyone) or salsa lessons. Plus, would you really want to sit where the chairs are less than a foot apart FACING each other? There were a few empty seats outside one of the restaurants, but it was outside of the cigar lounge. No one who doesn't smoke would want to sit there. So, we had no choice but to stay in our room to read. Everything on this ship was an upcharge. Really? 10 to watch a movie in your room? Every other cruise line offers that free. Room service? A charge. Most other lines don't charge for this. Coffee that didn't taste like tar? A charge. They nickle and dime you for everything. Including better food (do you really want to have to pay for a specialty restaurant just because the main dining room food was just blah?) Oh - and no lobster nights like other cruise ships. You have to pay more for that. And the best part? The Captain gets on the loudspeaker while we are in the middle of the sea telling us that nearly 23 years ago almost to the day, a ferry sank right where we were killing more than 800 people. BUT at least they require ships to have better safety light beacons and emergency recorders now (I feel so much better now knowing that they could find us better should we sink). What kind of captain says this while you are in choppy water in the middle of the sea? There was a collective gasp of disbelief as he made this announcement. All the passengers we saw or spoke to were livid. The main discussion in the elevators was "NEVER AGAIN". Even those who had cruised with NCL in the past agreed that this was a horrible cruise. Apparently the Q&A session the last day of the cruise was so heated that the cruise staff took the microphone away so people couldn't vent - so people just screamed their comments instead. What should have been the cruise of a lifetime turned into a very disappointing trip gone sour. We will do this cruise again - but on another cruise line. This was NOT my first cruise - I have sailed Holland America and Royal Caribbean multiple times. But this will be my LAST NCL cruise. When my sister contacted NCL about her experience, all she got back was a canned "oh well" letter. So mad. Read Less

This cruise any easy choice due to three wonderful previously with NCL (but shown on documents as 'New Guests?) and a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity to visit the Baltic region despite the cruise cost and airfare from Australia. However, if it had been our first, would certainly be our last as worst ever of many others. Only advised on check-in that would not be docking at Warnemunde rendering non-refundable a payment of A$322 on pre-booked Berlin tour as less than 24 hours notice. Others apparently received notice 2 days prior? I am aware that NCL tours were refunded but unlike previous cruises, their charges are now ridiculously excessive and only seem to target naïve 'first timers'. After a wasted extra day in Copenhagen, with no shuttles offered, arrived in Tallin and ominously, scheduled departure failed to eventuate before announcement that would be staying extra day with Helsinki & Stockholm cancelled, again citing weather conditions. Can understand losing one due to delay but both made no sense while ferries to Helsinki continued uninterrupted. Later claimed by the Captain that "Channel not deep enough for the ship" - please spare me such rubbish! Again, no shuttles were offered and the extra cost of the balcony proved to be a complete waste of money with the same view for seemingly endless hours in ports. Disembarkation at St.Petersburg was utter shambles for passengers with private tours (at least a theatre full), many seniors treated appallingly, shouted at disrespectfully by staff and herded to stand in corridors prior to entering the theatre to await release. Their system of A,B & C for priority was non-existent with cabin neighbors in C leaving far ahead of us in A. Return to Copenhagen, at half speed to ensure a not too early arrival, was extremely frustrating as we sailed within sight of both Helsinki & Stockholm in perfect weather. Regardless of the weather influence, the contrast with previous NCL cruises could not have been more extreme with decline in services provided including the following:- Dining:Lengthy delays between table allocation and service plus between courses. 40 minutes at breakfast before serving a simple apple juice is unacceptable as are wrong meals served at various times. Any complaints were met with indifference. From first day, items listed on unchanged menus were not available! My wife and I enjoy shared tables as you usually get to meet many other like minded passengers where interesting conversations result. However, on the first night when we indicated we didn't mind sharing we were told "That's unusual" (no its not) and most nights were shown to our own table?? Entertainment: Poorest 'Showtimes' ever experienced with performances repeated during the cruise. No intention of paying extra for other shows that have viewed elsewhere at no charge. Cruise director & Assistant: If they are amongst the best available, then standards have lowered even more. I would have thought understandable English a priority. Ship design: From 'Customer Service' with endless queues located next to a noisy Atrium with poorly designed seating layout, chairs spread seemingly at random, to drab decor in dining rooms and excessive casino area, nothing inspires to return to this ship in particular. It was claimed at Q&A with the Captain that all decisions on altered itinerary and lack of compensatory planning were as instructed by H.O. so I therefore enquired with them as to what compensation I would receive, noting that NCL's reputation was at risk in Australia and worldwide. I have held off submitting my review until I received a reply and no prizes for guessing it consisted of standard Corporate reply of "Apologies but no refund and look forward to welcoming you back on board". We chose this cruise for the itinerary which unfortunately we missed 60% of the scheduled ports due to weather. This was a big disappointment but overall the ship is beautiful and the staff were wonderful. Although the ship can obviously not control the weather I don’t think adequate provisions were made for the changed itineraries. We ended up not finding out that we were not going to Berlin as we checked in for the cruise at embarkation. There was not time to schedule any activities for the next morning in Copenhagen, I think that the cruise line could have provided a bus for transportation back into the city the next morning or assisted with arrangements given that the itinerary was abruptly changed. The same thing occurred in Tallinn when it was announced that we would also not visit Stockholm or Helsinki. We spent an extra day in Tallinn and there was no assistance offered or provided to help passengers with the extra day there.. these days could have been much better days with minimal assistance from the cruise line. Then when asked about the missed ports the staff just told us that they were told to have us call NCL when we returned. Not satisfactory. So, while the ship and crew were very nice I think NCL failed the passengers on this particular cruise. Read Less

This was a special cruise for us as it was our first cruise and we were looking forward to sailing at night so that we could spend each day exploring a new country. In fact we only stopped at 2 of the 5 ports. We had no information prior to joining in Copenhagen that we would be there for 2 days (we would have arranged to arrive on the ship later and conduct a tour of Copenhagen), although those joining in Germany had been told to embark at Copenhagen. We missed Germany, Sweden and Finland and spent an extra day in Estonia. What a waste of time. The ferries were running from Tallinn to Helsinki, but the modern, high tech, stabilised Norwegian Breakaway could not sail the short distance. At a Q&A session with the Captain and Hotel Manager over 500 people voiced how angry they were that NCL had ruined the cruise offered nothing to compensate i.e. no free movies or internet or dining options. The entertainment stagnated and certainly the Flyboys had come prepared to offer a different show from the one already seen by everyone, but were never asked to do so. The inside cabin was clean, roomy and well designed. The food was good but the buffet was absolutely packed and like a cattle market. The junior staff were generally helpful, but the more senior they were, the more evasive they became. We were told by the Captain that the decision not to visit the other ports was made by NCL Head office in Miami and went to the President of NCL for the final decision. Did they apologise, offer any sort of compensation or do anything to try and compensate for all the disappointment. Nothing but excuses and poor entertainment at sea. Read Less

The ship was suppose to go to places I wanted to see, but three ports were cancelled and we stayed on the ship extra days. We were suppose to go to five ports but only went to two, Estonia and Russia. Port calls in Germany, Finland and Sweden were cancelled. Bad weather was cited for the reason but there had to be other reasons since we bypassed Helsinki even thought the storms had passed days earlier. The shipboard entertainment was so-so. It was mostly solo acts, such as a single singer, violinist etc. My wife and I left some shows early since they were boring. I knew in advance beer ($8.30 a bottle) and soft drinks ($5.00) would be expensive so it was not a surprise. I just didn't drink as much as I would have liked. Still the food was great, the cabins were great, the service was great and we had a very good time but regret not seeing what we paid for. For old people, such as my wife and I, it was a relaxing vacation. Read Less

This cruise was to celebrate our 25th anniversary and we wanted to experience places in Europe we have never been before. The itinerary we booked was for 6 ports starting in Warmemmunde (Berlin). When we arrived in Berlin a few days before the cruise was scheduled to pick us up, we received texts messages form NCL saying that they were not going to stop in Berlin and that we had to get to Copenhagen with only $300 to help us get there. Last minute flights from Berlin to Copenhagen were over $800 each. The train and taxis we did take cost us over $300. And we cancelled the tours and tickets we pre-purchased for tours in Berlin and the connecting bus to the Berlin port (about $500). Then while on the ship, our schedule was shifted back a day since we had to spend an extra day in Tallinn, so by the time we left St. Petersburg we had to skip the port stops in Helsinki and Stockholm in er to get back to Copenhagen on time. We were credited back some or our pre-paid excursion costs and then recharged what we did take but it was not made clear to us if this was and equitable credit/charge. Also, when we boarded we did not get our Platinum rewards coupons and invitations so the first night we dined in Cagney's as our reward dinner we had to go round and round with the restaurant manager and the Cruise Next desk to get the rewards we were entitled to. Because our Platinum benefits were given to us late, we missed the Latitudes cocktail party and behind the scenes tour. Also,, the laundry initially charged us when it should have been free. All these corrections to our bill and benefits required us to stand in long lines at Customer Service, Cruise Next or Shore Excursions to get fixed. Overall, we were not very happy about our experience. Read Less

This was our third cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines, and will be our last. We booked the cruise especially because of the itinerary: Copenhagen, Warnemunder, Tallin, St Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm. On boarding we were told the first port was cancelled and we would be sailing to Tallin. The ship then remained moored in Stockholm and sailed a day late. Arriving at Tallin, we took our excursion and on getting back to the ship were then told we had to stay in port as the lock gates at St Petersburg were closed because of high tides. We sailed from Tallin 24 hours later. Arriving at St Petersburg a day late meant our excursions were out of sync, and we had to book a much more expensive Norwegian excursion to enable us to see everything we wanted. On leaving St Petersburg the next evening we were then told the ship was sailing directly to Copenhagen, missing Helsinki and Stockholm completely. At this point the passengers we spoke to were as angry and disappointed as we were. The ship itself was geared towards gambling, and the theatre was tiny compared to other smaller ships. We paid for Cirque Soleil, but were crammed in tightly it was difficult to move in comfort. Of the three “free” restaurants, all had the same menu, so choosing one was a no brainier. We booked for the itinerary, but missing three ports out of five was a great disappointment, and we have not yet had an apology from NCL. There is no observation lounge on Breakaway, so if the weather was inclement the only place to go to watch the world go by was the Garden cafe. Several times in restaurants we had dirty glasses, and service was slow most of the time. Read Less

Cruise ended one day early due to bad weather which was totally acceptable, except the crew did absolutely nothing to help all the passengers to make arrangements to get from Denmark to Germany. They basically threw computers at us and said "google how to get to Germany". I was appalled at the lack of concern for any of us. I know it our cruise contract it states that they can end the cruise early at their discretion without a refund, but there are times that a refund is necessary when it costs a guest a lot of money to get home. Offering $300 per stateroom was not enough to cover the costs. I feel Norwegian needs to work out how to treat guests with more compassion and dignity than I found from them. I will not be cruising with Norwegian in the near future because of these reasons. I hope that they can work on these issues in the future. Read Less

We embarked in Warnemunde Germany on September 15 and should have disembarked there on September 24. However, at approximately 11 AM on September 22 we were informed that we had to leave the ship in Copenhagen on September 23. A mad scramble issued to make new travel arrangements. Only 5 computers and 5 phone lines were supplied to make these arrangements. If you used the ships WiFi or your room phone you were charged. The waiting line to access these supplied computers and phones took about 2.5 hours. That is the only support offered by Norwegian. Great way to spend you day at sea. They offered up to $300 to compensated for travel arrangement, but you have to submit your receipts to them. So more wasted time doing that. They should just give you the $300 and be done with it! We spent the day in Copenhagen and rented a hotel room (expensive). The ship happily staid in port and was still there the next day as we headed out to the airport. Friends of ours who used a bus to travel back to Germany said that a fleet of luxury buses arrive at the cruise ship having transported the new Germany passenger. It seems that since they had gotten our money already we didn't deserve arranged transportation. It's all about the money I guess. This was my first trip on Norwegian. I've cruised we Princess, Holland American and Viking before and they were all much superior. Needless to say that I will never cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

I chose this cruise because a group of girlfriends wanted the itinerary and the cruising dates fit our schedule. We prefer to travel when the crowds are starting to decrease in the early fall and the kids are starting back to school. I highly recommend the upgraded dinning packages . The specialty restaurants are excellent but the main dining room is very average and the buffet/ cafeteria is a scary place full of people running, pushing and shoving. I bought the premium internet package and it was top notch on the entire cruise wherever I went. You can share between devices but only one can be logged in at once. The ship was kept meticulously clean and the fitness room is top notch and all machines were working everytime I went there. Shore excursions could be better. Stockholm (nynasham?) port where we docked was 1 hour away from the city which cut 2 hours off of our time for travel and the Hop on/off buses were slow to come: more like every 30 minutes instead of 10 as promised. I would recommend using a city bus instead : they seem to come very frequently. Copenhagen grand tour is just a bus ride through the city or out for a 5 minute picture and on to the next area. It’s ok if you are going to the airport I guess. St. Petersburg requires a Visa which we obtained though the Anastasia travel group tour co. Lines to enter Russia are a nightmare and the officer will call the tour company to make sure you have a Visa and are on the list for a tour. We saw people denied admission because they were not on the “list”. The second day however takes 5 min to get through passport control. Spend the money for a good tour in St. Petersburg; it really is a grand city with an amazing history. Read Less

We were travelling in family with 1 young children. On this cruise we embark in Rodstock, Germany. The ship was found not as sumptuous or practical as Royal Caribbean ships but has interesting water park (this was our selling point). By the way the minimum height for the water slides is 40 inches except for the free-fall for which it is 48 inches (unlike advertise on their web-site). For the free fall there is also a minimum weight of 45 kilograms. We were given a noisy cabin (above theatre) for a family with young kid. Following constant complaints it took 3 days before the customer service offer us to change to an equivalent room. They finally moved us to a noisier room that was left from his previous occupant due to noise issues with the adjacent room. Casino areas and surrounding was badly smelling cigarette. Uneven dining service (from bad to good). Waiters did not accelerate the services for our kid. We had cold food on some occasions. We found the service generally correct, but not to Royal Caribbean level. Shore excursions were poor due to quality of the guides and programs. The Copenhagen excursion was too fast with no time to have any visit. Would not go again or recommend Norwegian. Read Less

I took my adult children on cruise to see the Baltic area. This was our second Norwegian Cruise and we really enjoyed it. Getting onto the ship was easy. The majority of people get on at Copenhagen, which I recommend doing over warnemunde. The people getting on at warnemunde seem to be forgotten about and no special sailaway activities. There is plenty to do into the wee hours of the morning or you can choose to do nothing and enjoy relaxation. The shows were entertaining. With nealy 4000 people on ship very few times did it seem crowded. The buffet was excellent and very good variety for evening meals. Also Wasabi sushi bar was good. We didn’t do the dining plan do we stayed to the complementary eating which served us fine. The waitstaff and room stewards were friendly and helpful. If you really want to get away from people and have your own jacuzzi/bar check out the Vibe... recommend to pay by day and Not entire week. We enjoyed the ice bar - it’s tiny but fun. Dress warm before going in! They give you a cover but it’s still cold!! Really research your excursions if booking thru the ship. For us doing the old town in Estonia was perfect. There’s not much else to see so spend your time in old town. I’d recommend the 2 day best of St. Petersburg. If you book the excursion thru the ship your first off the shop and don’t have to wait in insanely long immigration lines. Our tour guide was wonderful and very informative about her country. Finland Sweden and Denmark I don’t recommend the boats excursions. Get a city map, arrange drop off in town center and explore on own. In Sweden the port is about 45 min from Stockholm so a transport is needed. Stockholm was so packed with people and buses we were hearded like cattle, guide was awful, rushed, and saw very little - Best of Stockholm. Book an excursion on water and see sites that way. And when sailing up to Copenhagen ... watch for the bridge you’ll sail under watch for the porpoises that come up near the ship. Read Less

We had goodies in our room waiting for us every day! Our room was spotless every time we walked out, even if just for a moment! We really loved eating at all of the specialty restaurants, especially Cagneys! The ports were great and we had never been to any of them. We were very glad to get to see such unique places without having to travel by rail or air to get to them. Literally every member of the staff went out of their way for us constantly with a big smile. The ship has things to do for people of all ages and interests. We choose this cruise because of the ports and dates. We stayed in the Haven which is quite expensive but quite lovely. We were not impressed with excursions. They were too expensive with too many people. I ended up cancelling two of our scheduled excursions and booking local tour guides at 2 ports. It was hot and many people were not dressed for walking on uneven streets. They would have on flip flops or sandals. We had two people fall on two different excursions. One boat we were on in Stockholm had us packed in like sardines and it was HOT and unpleasant. If/when we take another cruise I will pre-book all the excursions on our own. Just research on Tripadvisor and you can find reputable tours. We have done that all over Europe and never had an issue. The cardio equipment needs more maintenance. It is heavily used and poorly maintained. The rowing machine was broken while we there. It was supposedly fixed...it wasn't fixed. Had to try 4 different ellipticals before one worked consistently. The exercise room needs a re-vamp. It is very tired. Perhaps putting the equipment on a maintenance rotation schedule....don't wait until it is broken....preventative maintenance. Customers need to check the credits on their accounts when they get on the ship. There were problems with several of my credits. I checked them the day before we left and that wasn't soon enough to get anything fixed. So I was overcharged and I will have to get my travel agent involved to see if we can get any credits. We disembarked to get on the bus to Berlin. It was a 3 hour drive with NO scheduled bathroom break...who does that? 3 hours with no restroom break? Keep in mind the restroom on the bus was out of order. Our son speaks German so we requested the bus driver stop when a 10 year old girl was becoming quite miserable. The bus driver was nice and very accommodating. The internet was too expensive and really too difficult to operate. The system should log you automatically after so many minutes of no use. Seemed a little mean spirited and almost suspicious in this day and age to such an archaic system. This cruise had a learning curve for us. We would cruise with NCL again but apply what we learned this time. Read Less

We had a great time on the Baltic Sea cruise until I fell and broke my wrist. I had to have surgery in Copenhagen. After telling both my husband and I that NCL would be there to help us through the medical stuff, hotels, rebooking flughts home, etc., they put me in an ambulance and we never heard from anyone again. We were blessed to have some wonderful Danes help us in the hospital, find hotels, deal with luggage. Two seniors left stranded in a foreign country is not how NCL should treat its guests. They have not been responsive to our phone calls. The lack of caring and follow through ruined the trip (not the accident). I can not recommend this company, since they do not have your best interest at heart. Find a cruise company that will be there for you the whole process! People matter, not just money! Read Less

Service was great ! Staff very nice and fun. Restaurants a good variety, maybe a bit more of another kind of food....the food was very good most of the time. The Tastings (whiskey, martini, etc) were soooooooooo much fun you need to try it ! The shows were lots of fun, specially the magic show and the broadway show "Rock of Ages". Karaoke every night and the live music were awesome ! I got the chance to participate in the Dance Battle competition and won, it was lots of fun and very well done. If you have the chance to participate please do it. Everything is was great, wonderful experience, the only thing i would say is that, i still think the drinks shouldn't be that expensive in general and also the wifi there should be a way to include it in the price of the room or it shouldnt be that expensive either. We love Norwegian and always sail with them. We love the destinations, price, and cleanliness of their ships. So we were a little shocked with the Breakaway. It started off bad by the staff losing our luggage. Lucky before we left they found it still on shore 6 hours after we had boarded. They did not even apologize. One of the crew had set it aside and forgotten about it. The layout was horrible. The casinos were in the open. You could not go anywhere without the smell of smoke. (Or maybe we had a lot of smokers on our trip, but it was bad). There were lines at every restaurant and elevator. You could not even find a table at the buffet. The buffet seemed the same size as the one on the Spirit ship which holds half as many people as the Breakaway. My children loved the slides and ropes course. We found the staff to be happy but not always able to answer our questions. It was as if this was their first time on the ship as well. Nic the steward that cleaned our room was amazing. Everything was clean which was amazing for how many people were on that ship. Once again the destinations were amazing the main reason we travel with Norwegian. They go to cool places and make it easy. Read Less

This cruise was chosen because it met the timelines available for our two grandsons who were graduating from high school as well as most of the destinations that we thought important That said, as frequent river and ocean cruisers we were significantly disappointed in our first NCL experience. The definition of a mini suite was in fact no more than a balcony stateroom on most cruise lines An unexpected poor choice when traveling with two teenage boys. The overall service of the staff was poor from front desk, excursion desk (which was not open between 0800 and 1800 on days in port to resolve issues) and waite staff Because of fixed rate gratuity there was no incentive among the crew for excellent service The food was less than good with poached eggs served hard boiled. Stuffed chicken breast in reality an unstuffed thigh and leg, hot chocolate served cold and rare prime rib served extra well done. To name only a few issues Changes in excursions were not communicated consistently nor to all members of the excursion. As an example we had to findout on our own the transportation plan in Sweden and then only received half of the plan Likewise the excursion to the Peterhof although listed a 5 hours in fact was merely 70 minutes from gate entrance to departure the rest was wasted time The only good part of this cruise was the onboard entertainment which was quite good The overall experience was far below Viking, Princess Royal Caribb, Uniworld, Globus and etc Read Less

Hello Im a cruisecritic lurker... I am a diamond member for RCL but we decided on NCL for the Baltic because of the dates and itinerary. Here is my review- I think people should know the truth. I am comparing NCL to RC and Celebrity here. How disappointing. This will be our last NCl cruise for the following reasons - here are the negatives 1. Mini Suite includes no extras-no robes, no canapes, no butler. it has a bigger bathroom, thats it,. 2. No artwork on the ship except for whats for sale at park west. Ship is plain, very basic. No sky lounge. 3. Dance club is a dingy room without windows or decor 4. Indoor cruise was for Haven guests only, available hot tubs were luke warm at best. 5. There are now 3 levels of restaurants - with Ocean Blue a second upcharge ( its not included with the restaurant package, neither is Circ De Solel, the sushi restaurant or the raw bar. 6. Spa waiting room not serene- it has cubicles-looks like the preoperative hospital waiting are. Want a serene area with ocean view? pay $259 per person for the " thermal suite" 7. Bingo cost me $50 to play - I won the final round and the grand prize was $160 ( we split it 4 ways) 8. The drink packages were supposed to include all drinks under$15 but when I asked for a $9 tasting glass of champagne, it wasnt included. 9. We never got to see Rock of ages - the theater is way too small for the size of the ship 10.Large Smoking area was set up right next to the main pool . People smoked all over the ship as well- NCL did not enforce the nonsmoking areas. 11. NCL sold one night cruises for the locals in order to fill the ship- there were young people who were very loud - one night we were woken up 3x. 12. Balcony is the tiniest Ive ever seen. 13. The buffet is set up differently - there arent large serving areas so the lines were long. 14. people should know that there are a lot of Asian customers on this cruise- they tend to physically push when on line. 15. it took 1 1/2 hours to embark Here are the positives: 1.The food quality is good. 2.The room was very clean 3. Syd Normans, Circ de Solel and the other entertainment was excellent. 4.The ports were outstanding, so 5 stars for itinerary Read Less

We caught the public bus 25 from Norreport to the port with no problem! Took about 10 minutes (only one stop on the way) and cost 24 DKK per person. Dropped suitcases off and then lined up for about 20 minutes and then we were on! Our only regret was not keeping out bathers in our hand luggage so we could enjoy a hot tub while waiting for our suitcases to arrive (took about two hours). We had bid for an upgrade from interior cabin to a balcony successfully, and so glad we did! We had the most amazing warm weather on our trip, so even though our balcony was small, it was so nice to have the balcony door open and view the sea whilst lying in bed. Our cabin was perfect (9264). Our cabin attendant (Rolando) was nice and friendly and kept our cabin lovely and clean. I asked if there were any robes available (mainly for to and from the hot tubs) and he had one in our room later that day! Although it was a fully booked cruise, we didn't find it felt overly crowded or shoulder to shoulder in the public areas. We did feel though that the Atrium area was used incorrectly, would have been nice to have live music playing there throughout the day while enjoying a drink from the bar. However they played games, did dance lessons and played an occasional movie. I feel they might have got more people to join in the dance lessons etc if they were in another venue and not in front of the bar with lots of eyes watching on!! Not as much entertainment during the evenings as we have experienced on other cruises, but still found something to do most of the time. The only show we didn't like was the Rock of Ages. We were aware of the adult themes etc., but it just wasn't a good show and went for way too long. We had thought it would be similar time frame to other shows and events (eg. about 45 minutes - 1 hour), but I think it went for nearly 2 hours??!! It was definately 1 1/2 hours anyway. Maybe in the daily planner they should also write the time frame for the shows, as it makes it easier to plan your dinner reservations or meeting others when you know how long it will be. We did arrive about 20 minutes pre show to get a good seat down the front, enjoyed a drink while waiting! It was a little too cool for me (not for others!) to swim, but we did use the hot tubs and really enjoyed them. Nice and warm and not too busy. We ate mainly in Taste, Savour and Manhattan and enjoyed all of them. They all have the same menu. Food was very good, but not wow! It was very enjoyable with a nice range. Waiters were all very friendly and helpful. It was very easy getting on and off ship for port days, a little bit of queuing, but nothing too bad. Of course St Petersburg was the biggest queue, but we had been warned. Took about an hour or so on the first day and only about 20 minutes the second day to get off ship and through immigration to meet our Tour Group (SPB Tours - wonderful!!). St Petersburg was the highlight of the ports we visited, was amazing, and our tour leader was so good getting us into venues ahead of all the queues etc and explaining everything. We all had individual headsets, so very easy to hear and small groups. We had the drinks package (free with our booking), and could order any drink under $15 for free - except for coffee/teas, and red bull. We enjoyed the house wines and the cocktails. We would definitely recommend NCL Breakaway and also the Baltic cruise. We had a wonderful time :-) Read Less

We chose this cruise because one of us wanted to go to Russia, and this was the easiest and cheapest way to do that. Embarkation was one of the best we've had (this was our 7th cruise), and we couldn't believe it that our room was ready for us and our luggage by the door before 2pm. Our room (balcony) was huge! The balcony was pretty small but we're so glad we paid the extra $ for it because there were some awesome sunsets on this cruise. The complementary restaurants were ok; the buffet was probably the best we've had. Service was always very good in the restaurants. The bar tenders was great! We especially liked Andy from The Phillipines at the bar outside the buffet area. The shows were really interesting and entertaining. Rock of Ages was amazing. Our cabin attendant, Jesse, was excellent. This is the first cruise we've taken where we didn't keep running into cabin attendants in the hallways, but he was always around when we wanted him. Each and every port was interesting and different from each other. Our shore excursions were really good except for one in Saint Petersburg where the guide repeated everything at least three times. I happen to smoke and there was an outdoor bar/smoking area where we met lots of interesting people. The ship's layout was the best ever. Our cabin was near the back of the boat but the elevator banks were located nearby. And the elevators were quick, especially considering there are 4,000 people on this ship. I would definitely recommend this cruise to people, and I would also recommend they use Louis at vacationstogo.com to book. He was super responsive and helpful. Read Less

Good Stuff: -Garden Food Court easy to maneuver due to multiple locations to go to. Seating was large and enabled us to find seating unlike other cruises. Food was delicious and different daily. -Many different tours at different price points which we appreciated. -Getting onboard and departing was orgainized & painless except for final retreival of baggage. Had to find in a one sided open tent which had people coming & going... not good. -Room steward was kind and attentive. Bad Stuff: -Dinner in resturants were very, very slow between ordering and receiving, ditto for desserts course. Not a good experience for one of our favorite things to do. -Entertainment was not to our liking. We are older and like Movies each day, especially in the evening after dinner. The movies you had were old and set at different times usually during a Tour. You could order in your room for a price but wanted the theater experience with no cost. Suprised this was lacking.
