Hurricane WILMA - changed all port of calls...Cozumel and Veracruz were our ports of call. Cozumel was great (like always) we did a great tour (dune buggies) and though it wasn't the newer buggies, we had a great time and were able to do more and go farther out than normal. (www.EagleRayDivers.com Ask for Chillie). He offers more than one tour; I have just done the buggies and would recommend it!
As for Veracruz it was horrible... first the people are more excited to see you than you are to see them! I had the opportunity to talk to a husband and wife who have been stationed at the Navy Base, and was told that it had been a year since she had seen any American Tourist...WOW we were told that ships come to port once a month! Veracruz had really nothing to offer except dollar ($1.00) beers... The shopping was what I expected (nothing fancy just silly things) but the normal. A man approached us and offered a $15.00 dollar boat ride to see some light house (island) and then to proceed on to an island (that was really a sand bar) called "Little Cancun" this was to be a two hour tour / excursion that turned into about 1 hour and 15 minutes (but we didn't mind the cut of time)... upon arriving back from this "tour" (if that's what you want to call it) we were hounded from the so called guide (who swam around and talked to us in Spanish the whole time) and boat driver for a tip... when we finally got our feet on the sand other people asked us how the tour was and if it was worth it...after explaining to them what we had done everyone got off the boat...and then I felt bad... but I didn't want to lie! So that was a waste of 15 bucks and about 2 hours time... all and all Veracruz wasn't a good time...but we did get off the boat...
The boat - was a boat…the sea was rough through the day and night for obvious reasons… the ambiance of the boat was ok…a bit out dated (she is 4) I was on floor 8 the outer rooms had balconies… The total room over all was good…plenty of room beds were good…showers were small but that's how it is all over!
The over all design was good…Colors were good nothing too over the top and nothing too under done… As for dinning areas were just fine w/ the ambiance but the food well…that needs some work…every night in the dining rooms offered stake of some kind… and it was never just a good steak it was always BBQ or some flavored sauce (BLAH) now the healthy restaurant was not my taste at all…and yes I did eat there and hated it…but that's to his and her tasted (I believe). The buffet NEVER changed it was the same for breakfast and lunch (never ate dinner) and it wasn't good… it reminded me of old high school cafeteria food! Hot dogs, Hamburgers (that sat in grease all damn day) cold cuts (that after 4 hours in the sun were hot and nasty) along w/ cheese (so nasty)… needles to say I didn't eat lunch much… the dessert in the buffet was the same every day as well and that got old real quick… the moose wasn't moose it was whipped cream…the dessert in the restaurants were better!
They have one 24 hour food supply and that's in the Sports Bar (they are open till 5AM) but when we went at 3AM it took them about 45 min to find someone to take are order and then about 45 min for the damn pizza to be cooked… the pop card is $45.50 bucks and its fountain drinks only…So the next night we ordered room service and that took an hour…Can't win late at night…other than the bar service (they get a % no matter what) and late night service, service was good!
Just the food and entertainment…the entertainment was like going to see my High School play every night…Even if all port calls were made I still wouldn't have been happy with the overall package…freestyle cruising isn't for me…along w/ NCL I will never take a NCL cruise again…I was disappointed…I work hard for my money and you pay a good amount for go on a vacation and all areas that you look forward to let me down…Food, and Entertainment… I give this ship a big thumbs down…but I have tons of stories to tell for years to come….
The pools and deck were fine…thought the wind made it hard to enjoy the outdoor activities. We had one deck party and that was fun…if it wasn’t for the wind that would have been a great time…that was the only late night buffet and it was good b/c it was a Mexican / Cowboy thing with a roasted pig and nachos…a great variety of things…Music was great I really enjoyed that night. The disco was horrible he plays upon request so I had o list of about 20 songs and he played 2…it was closed at 2 every night…he played tons of techno and I and hate techno GRRRR so that cleared the floor and then we all just left… it was horrible…and like I said before bar service was horrible b/c the bar tenders get a tip no matter what so they don’t hustle to get your drink…but the pool side service seemed ok…I never got a drink pool side b/c they would tip over in the wind and 8 bucks for a fun drink was a bit much to spend for the wind to blow it over…drinks and beer were over priced…7-8 for the drink of the day and 6-7 for a refill w/ your same glass…5.50 for a mixed drink (something along the lines of Rum and Coke, Vodka and Sprite) 4.45 for a beer (Miller Light) so it you add up the drinks and then the specialty restaurants then what the hell is your cruise fee for? If I would have known that the food was going to be so bad on the normal service then I never would have gone…
Now I paid $800 per person for Deck 8 room 8326 and I know girls who paid 1,000 for Floor Five…but what’s the big deal w/ the deal if in the end you have to pay for better quality food? Ok so that’s my review I hope I didn’t leave anything out! Any questions email me… Read Less
