Overall this was a great cruise! I've been on two other NCL ships, the Pearl and the Getaway, and my time on the Sky was just as fantastic, albeit very different. On all my other cruises, both on NCL and Carnival, I'd gone with friends or family. This time I went solo just to see what it would be like- I'm kind of an introvert and wanted to see if cruising solo would be more comfortable for me. It certainly was! When I wanted to connect with people, the other passengers made for great company. When I wanted to be alone I was able to be without issue. It was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the small size of the ship, that's what I credit for the smooth embarkation and disembarkation. It also made it very easy and quick to get around while onboard, something I appreciated. My cabin, 10215, was quiet which was something I was worried about given its location directly under the lido deck. That was not an issue at all. I didn't really participate in the evening entertainment options, although I did see the comic during his PG-13 Show. He was funny enough, but not "buy the CD" funny. I tried to do as many of the trivia contests as I could, which was fun. The food was good, and the open bars made things absolutely fantastic. There was never a line longer than a couple of people, and the bartenders made the drinks strong. The ports of call were as you'd expect. Great Stirrup Cay was relaxing, though I do wish they had the food venues open earlier. The bars were always busy but well-staffed so, again, never a long wait (and drinks are included there, too!). Nassau was an interesting town to visit. I went to the national art gallery and toured the grounds of the Governor's Mansion. I also went wandering on my own in Nassau, something that wasn't particularly smart to do in hindsight. About a mile or so in from the tourist area I began to feel unsafe so I turned around. I didn't leave the port area at Freeport, so I can't comment too much on it. Finally, I have to say that the staff on the Sky were phenomenal. They were always friendly, always courteous, always helpful. My steward, Rodolfo, went out of his way to greet me every morning and help me keep my bearings (I get turned around easily). The dining staff provided quick service, and the bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly as well. NCL's staff makes them shine and makes the choice to return to NCL a no-brainer for me. Read Less

We chose this ship because we wanted to go to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. We flew into Orlando and took the Go Port Canaveral transfer package from airport/ to hotel/ to the ship/ to the airport. It was an easy process. It took about an hour to get from the hotel to the port. IMPORTANT TIP: To speed past much of the line, find the elevator. It drops you at the top of the stairs! At that point, it still took 45 minutes to get on the boat. So, any shortcut helps! We stayed in a mini suite on the 13 floor. This was a good location, as it was a short 2 floors up the stairs to the pool deck and buffet. The gym was up one deck. The room was very strange, as many reported. We adjusted without much problem. There was a lot of storage space and closet space. However, electric outlets were sparse. They were located under the cabinet opposite the bed. Not very convenient at all. Bring your own body wash and shampoo. They have some stinky herbal stuff that was short of disgusting. And lady's, there is no conditioner!!! Bring your own. Last year we were in a suite on the Dawn, and had some awesome Bvlgari products. This is our 3rd Norwegian cruise. This was our worst in terms of service. We had the drink package. It was hard to find a bartender that was attentive or not rude. No one smiled. They seemed annoyed to be there. We never experienced that on other ships. We were in Spice H20 most of the time during the day. Finding waiters was difficult, at best. We waived, yelled, etc.. to get their attention (when there was one to be seen). They would wave and then make their way after 5 minutes or so. Again, annoyed to be there and no smile or friendly words. The restaurants were OK. The menu never changed, so if you wanted variety, you needed to try another entre or go to a specialty restaurant. NOTE: We usually dress up for dinner and got great service in the Manhattan. However, we ate in Cagney's twice- both times the service was without a smile. The experience in Teppanyaki was good. It was entertaining. The food was just ok. I had steak. It was under seasoned. So was the rice. My wife had shrimp and scallops. The scallops were very fishy and seemed undercooked. The Garden Cafe was fine, however, many of the "American" dishes were far from tasting that way. I think they need to invest in an American cookbook, because American staples should look and taste accordingly. Pool Deck- get there early and reserve a spot, or you may find slim pickings on finding chairs- especially at Spice H20. We like being in the hot tubs. One day they were very hot, other days cool or luke warm. No consistency. Entertainment- I thought Norwegian was supposed to be "freestyle"? There were many venues that required reservations. Even tenders? We reserved the Burn the Floor show several months in advance. Upon boarding the ship, we had a letter in our cabin that said we were bumped, and rescheduled to another show (on the last night of the cruise). Not cool. Also, we paid for premium seats for the Cirque show and were seated upstairs. We didn't get what we paid for. The show was outstanding, but we got the bait and switch. The Epic Beatles were also very good, however, get there at least an hour early if you want a chance at getting to sit down. The bartender is not very friendly in there either. We got into the dueling piano bar, which was OK... I've seen better singers. We never were able to get tickets to Escape the Big Top. This ship is big and crowded. Tours- In Jamaica, we went to Dunn's River Falls plus the VIP Beach tour. This was a very good experience. In Cayman- we went shopping and went to a restaurant and had lobster tails for lunch. When we returned, we found many people who reserved tours had them canceled due to rough seas. We decided not to go to the private island. The tender reservation schedule just wasn't worth the hassle. We heard there wasn't much shade, the food wasn't very good and the beach was crowded. Glad we skipped it. Next time, we will be more selective to not book cruises with more than one tender. Gym- The gym had plenty of equipment and machines. However, there were no towels the first few days, which was annoying. Also, no attendants there. Maid- She was great, pleasant, smiling and very friendly! We tipped her extra! All together, we like Norwegian, but this trip just seemed like less service and less for our money. Maybe that's what you get with the bigger ships? We still had fun and made the best of it. It just wan't for us. So, we won't be cruising on the Epic again. Read Less

Nice cruise when i finally got a quiet room. don't ever book in cabin 11533 studio. i had to move because it was so noisy next to a "crew area" which turned out to be an elevator where they roll things out of the crew elevator all the time. the room vibrated from all the noise. i had to request to be moved. the room i moved to was perfect. i am not telling which one it was!!! The leg of lamb was succulent, the prime rib outstanding, the garden cafe was okay. taste the mdr are the places to go. FOOD - GREAT PEOPLE - GREAT SOLO COORDINATOR - GREAT NEW ROOM - OUTSTANDING Traveled solo and would do it again. travelling solo with access to the studio lounge is important to me. i have had an inside, balcony and studio. i loved the balcony but adore the access the solo cabin affords me to the lounge, to connect with others. Cruise management very good and advanced. Cleanliness is their priority. All crew members doing their best. Food is fresh and lots of variety. Food and drinks unlimited. I am Indian and I recommend Norwegian cruise management to Hire good Indian Origin Chef / cook on board they can cook all kinds of food on board with taste. Only thing I missing on cruise is original Asian food taste. Cruise have lots of activities for all ages but need to increase more activities for kids between age 6 to 18 like more movies , fun activities , competitions like art , crafts. My kids struggle to find more activities on cruise as they have few on board like painting, cup cake decoration , t-shirt painting but still required more continues activities in evening time like other adults and seniors people like live shows , entertainment But overall very good experience. No doubt I choose Norwegian cruise again next vacation... Read Less

After Midnight was a fantasic show with a great, large, cast. I could have taken another hour of it. The Brat pack had great performers and the comedy club was good. Comoany men were great singers. Ship was over crowded and would have liked earlier dancing. Could never get in a hot tub or the pool. Good to get a meal package as the food starts to look the same. Boarding and disembarkation was smooth. Staff were all so wonderful. The buffet was always crowded. Osheehans had the most helpful people. Karaoke didnt have a very big selection of songs. Real slow service at savor ine night - waited over half an hour for desert and tea eventually left Good shopping bargains. Our cabin guy was adorable and super helpful. Would be nice to have some wifi without having to pay so much. Very limited tv to watch in the at sea day when it was so rough. Read Less

A friend chose it. The noise was high in almost all the public spaces. The atrium area was always noisy. even the Savor and Taste restaurants were so noisy that it was difficult to carry on a conversation. The cruise director was risque but just avoided vulgar. But his energy level was such that he sounded like an infomercial pitchman most of the time. The assistant cruise director did not not manage to avoid the line. He was flat out crude. Not a family atmosphere. I thought better of NCL than that. They always turned to volume up so loud that is could be heard on three decks, but was distorted. The service in the restaurants was very good. The food was mostly well-prepared and the service would not have been out of place on the Cunard ships. The staff at O'Sheehan's was amazing. Quick service on the food, friendly servers and management that was always on the alert for ways to improve things. The service and food at Cirque Steam was good and prompt. All in all an enjoyable trip, but there are a number of ways it could have improved. I would recommend this for a younger crowd but it is too coarse for young children to enjoy the entertainment in many instances. It is rather like Carnival without the wet tee shirt contests. I am sure you have read by now the reviews here and the news accounts of the cruise just prior to mine and let me say in the beginning that given that, I thought the crew was amazing. I'm not sure if I could have given the level of service they did after experiencing that ride in. Plus you may know New York City had a blizzard like I've never seen that shut down all the airports and I feel thankful that I flew in the night before it hit. So because of this, the departure was delayed one day BUT they allowed us to board Friday night if we wanted to. I did and the embarkation was normal I would say. I was disappointed that they did not have a priority line set up for check-in as I am Platinum Plus, but I certainly understood that this was not a normal embarkation as they would be having one Saturday morning as well. Like I said I boarded Friday night right at about 7:30 and I remember the time because I had a prepaid diner reservation at Ocean Blue. I went up there thinking it might not be open and it was and I had a WONDERFUL meal there. We departed Saturday afternoon and everything was great until we just passed by the Dominican Republic and the Captain announced that we were going to have a medical evacuation and had to turn the ship around. That took some time in that it caused the cancellation of Aruba. Unfortunately these things happen and I certainly understood. I later found out why the person had to be evacuated via helicopter but I won't go into that here. Very sad, The rest of the cruise went as scheduled and I enjoyed very much my visits and excursions to Curacao, Barbados, Saint Lucia and Antigua. Totally awesome! That is until we got close to New York and yet another storm which caused several course deviations and a late arrival into New York and a rocky ride, but it did not bother me at all.I had already planned to spend a night in New York post-cruise. I normally do that on any cruise stay a night pre and post to allow for any delays or disruptions and because I don't like having to RUSH off the ship. Dining was awesome. I ate at every specialty restaurant except for Moderno this time. Wonderful. The MDR"s were good as well as O'Sheehan's. Now The Buffet this cruise was super good and delicious and had lots of variety. I really enjoyed several lunches there and a couple of dinners. Was really, really good. I also like the table set up there and the way you can look out onto the ocean as you are eating. Huge picturesque floor to ceiling windows. I stayed in a Studio Cabin which is my favorite by the way when on a mega-ship. The Studio Lounge was cool (although I like The Epic's better) and our host Romeo was absolutely amazing. We had a really neat solo group this cruise and we all had a good time I thought and enjoyed dining and participating in a number of activities with them. Romeo really did a super job in setting things up for us. I've said it before in reviews, but whoever thought up the Studio concept at NCL is a genius. I've never had anyone tell me they didn't like it. If you are ever going solo, this is the way to do it. The only criticism I have has to do with the disembarkation this cruise, but I know they were trying to get the ship back on-time, but let's call one color at a time please and wait for the last color to disembark before calling last call please. I was relaxing in the studio lounge waiting for last call and when he called it so soon after calling red, I rushed up to find a huge line and it took about an hour or more it seemed to reach the customs desk. Just needed some fine tuning I would say, in my humble opinion. :) Despite the hiccups mentioned, I had a great cruise and the officers, management and staff we all amazing I thought. Outstanding service throughout the whole cruise! Read Less

Singles cruise and my 74th cruise overall. Not thinking I just thought a NYE cruise with some football on the ships tv's would be fun. Many on board very unhappy to have only two sports to watch the whole week. Cricket and Soccer. Paid extra for internet to only be very disappointed in the coverage and signal. No more NCL for this frequent cruiser. I will be canceling my cruise on the Bliss in October for Halloween.Have booked Celebrity. I was in Haven owners suite so my room was nice and service was excellent. I noticed even though being told reservations not available many of the themed restaurants had many empty tables at all hours. On chilly days of which there where three I think some of the interior bars should have been opened. Needed some aspirin after giving the ones I had to a friend and guess what....the ship had not had aspirin on board for retail purchase for two weeks. This was straight from the young lady working in the shops on board. They markup everything so tell be how hard it would be for a shore bound employee to go to a Walgreens and bring some to the ship? Wanted to sail on Norwegian because of easy access in L.A. Ca, no need to fly into port. Wish I would have read the reviews before booking. The plus side of this Ship is, it's very clean, all restrooms, dining areas, and other places (Spa, pool etc) were always kept clean. My Balcony Room was very clean and the Stateroom Steward did an excellent job. The Specialty Dining Restaurants were good, nothing spectacular, (Le Bistro, Cagney's and Teppanyaki)servings at Teppanyaki and Le Bistro were small. They had a craft class for 3 of the 7 days at sea. The craft class was nice, each a different project. The entertainment for the nightly evenings was good. This Ship is mainly kid/family oriented, not for single older adults. On the negative side, I paid for 3 days at the spa for 1 hour massage each day, thinking that I could use the spa and sauna before and after the massage. Nope!, Usually when I sail on other cruise lines, the use of the spa is included when booked for services at the spa. This ship charges an additional fee ($68) each day for use of spa and sauna. Also, I paid for bottled water on board as they would not allow guest to bring in their own bottled water. On embarkation everything went smooth, but on return, disembarkation was disorganized. They did not call the color of tags in the order it was listed. I will never sail this cruise line again. Read Less

This ship and crew were TOTALLY unprepared to cope with the effects of heavy seas and 4500 guests with nothing to do. No additional inside activities, no additional food services etc...crew in general were not very friendly. Cabin staff HORRIBLE and did little to keep my cabin fresh. If you are a solo traveller, do NOT think about the STUDIO cabins - small, dark, unwelcoming, claustrophobic.....and the 'lounge' they refer to is nothing but a small room in which selfserve snacks are left all day. Simply second rate - disembarkation was a NIGHTMARE of disorganization and chaos - closing staircases while people were on then, having elevators bypass disembarkation floor without telling anyone...just poor communication all around. Crew's english skills also seemed spotty at best. And the hallways where I was were CONSTANTLY cluttered with cleaning carts but no one was actually cleaning anything. I am a confirmed Disney cruiser and will stay that way - goodbye NCL. Read Less
