We are platinum with NCL and have taken 4 cruises since the pandemic. At first I excused the reduced staff due to Covid. Now I understand they are just cutting costs at the expense of service to the passengers. The cabin stewards have twice as many cabins so no turn down service. They are overworked and in bad mood. They cannot provide personal service and you cannot count on what time your cabin ...
We have sailed NCL many times and our expectations are low. However this cruise made low expectations even worse. To give some of the highlights:
No cabins were ready until 345pm despite being allowed on board from before noon .
Our room was never dusted or cleaned properly. The TV and safe did not work. Someone had put garbage under the bed from previous cruise and it was still there. It ...
We wanted to explore a little outside our usual territory, and the Baltic Sea was an area we hadn't really visited in depth. We also hadn't cruised much with Norwegian, but they had the itinerary and we thought the price was fair... so off to Sweden we flew. We spent a couple days in Stockholm before departure, and enjoyed trips to the Vasa Museum, a tour of the archipelago that lies between ...
The cruise was ruined for us by the extraordinary noise we have been subjected to every evening in our staterooms from 6pm to 10.30 pm by bands playing in the nearby Atrium. I complained 3 different times that the noise levels are above safety standards (capable of having an ordinary conversation an arm’s length apart). Their reception staff have to work in the same noise levels so the cruise line ...
Given the reviews here was expecting the worst, but overall it was actually quite ok. Given the amazing ports and more than reasonable price, I am pretty satisfied in the end.
Itinerary: Reykjavík to Tromso via Svalbard. 3 days at sea which was a good break between all the excursions. 3 of the ports were tendered - but only the very first one was somewhat chaotic. The only issue was that they ...
An excellent trip. However, Santorini and Mykonos were bummers. The weather was uncomfortably HOT the entire trip.
The buffet is not an option. So crowded you couldn't get to the food or drinks. If you did get past all the rude people to get a plate of food, there was nowhere to sit to eat it.
I thought the entertainment was wonderful, however, also too crowded. Syd Norman's never had ...
Let’s start with the good tomatoes;
NCL App easy to use
Cabin was really comfortable including the bed. I stayed in the Studio Lounge as a solo traveller. The lounge provided coffee and tea facilities along with cake and biscuits.
Staff were super friendly and helpful no matter when they were working
Entertainment in the theatre was spectacular!
A wide choice of bars and ...
We did a nine-day Mediterranean cruise on the Breakaway with our four (mostly teenage) children. We have cruised on NCL and RC previously. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend this ship, though there are certainly some drawbacks when you are sharing a ship with four thousand other people. The seemingly endless upselling can also get to be a drag.
Here’s more detailed ...
European itinerary appealed to us. Everything on/off this ship was a struggle; meals, shore excursions, etc. - transfer from airport was a nightmare. We booked airfare through the cruise line due to discounts, but upon arrival in Rome there was no organization to get the cruisers on the transfer busses. The Norwegian folks there were totally ineffective. It took us over 3 hours to get on a bus, ...
I went on a 9 day Greek Isles & Southern Italy cruise with Norwegian and it was so bad that I left after day 3. The entire ship was between 78-82 degrees fahrenheit and my room was close to 80 which is not even close to being considered an expected/normal temp inside. I need to sleep in a room around 68-70 degrees.
The restaurants were all abysmal cafeteria like quality food with everything ...
