They just fall short in so many ways. Try to deceive and nickel and dime. Cheap wine is $13 a glass. French onion soup has a teaspoon of cheese on top. Seafood buffet was only fried fish and calamari. Blackjack and slot tournament, kept saying up to $500 to make people think prize was $500. Poker tournament said winner gets in championship, but later they said only if they make $2200, so we got there, then they said only after we take 25% first. Just lies and deception. Dinner meatball soup had 3 tiny meatballs, this was just all week long everywhere we turned. Champagne art auction, well after 3 events you get mimosa. Over charge on excursions, we had much better excursions on our own. One said open bar, but that meant rum punch only at a certain point while supplies last and no beer. The main entertainment was quite good, but the Gatsby players stunk soo bad. They only had like 20% of excursions on web to research ahead of time. Never mailed a single thing, most cruise lines will mail an excursion brochure. Had all sorts of activities that had fees, but they would not list the fee ANYWHERE. Deception. Read Less

10 day cruise with only one day at sea.Great for an overview of many Islands. We did not use the ship excursions. The Dawn is a nice ship but we miss having a terrace in thé back of thé garden cafe to eat outside. For this rreason , we prefer the Sun or thé Jade..Enough time at each port.Good service at thé restaurants.Few technical problems in our suite but Leah our concierge was vert helpfull. First time in a suite and i highly recommend it if there is 4 of you.Because we had a suite,we could have breakfast at thé Moderno but we only went twice because thé service is slow if you have an early excursion. We had supper at the Moderno,Cagneys and Teppanyaki .Food was excellent except for the Tofu sauté at the Teppanyaki.Cruise on december 28th from Porto Rico. St-Vincent was a port replacing one damaged by the Hurricane .We do not recommend it as part of a regular itinerary. Read Less

Our December 17-28, 2017 cruise was a first for us, the first cruise longer than 7 days. We chose this cruise not because of the ship but because of the Ports. Some beautiful islands we have never been to before. However, that was a mistake. Next time we will choose based on the ship. The ports were great, except for Grenada and Guadeloupe. Both were very dirty ports and to be honest, I felt unsafe. We did enjoy the other Ports, did some shore excursions and just some walking around. Our cabin was great. We had a mini suite on the 11th floor. We were only about 1 minute from the pool area, in the middle of the forward and mid-ship elevators and didn't hear much noise around us. The cabin was spacious and had a full bathtub with shower (which is one of the reasons we upgraded from a balcony). The room was spacious as was the balcony. Loved that we had a coffee maker since my husband is an early riser and doesn't like to order room service as it will wake me. TV kinda sucked. Not much to watch. But I guess that's not what you are supposed to spend your vacation doing. Disappointed we did not have bath robes in our room. We learned that others in lower categories had them and others with lower latitudes rewards. Overall the cabin was fine. We ate in both main dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was pretty standard. Nothing to rave about but it was decent. We enjoyed the eggs benedict, corned beef hash, turkey sausage and fresh fruit. Toast was always cold. Coffee was ok (not as good as the stuff in the room). Lunch was alright - but I could have done as good at the buffet. None of our dinners impressed us. Food was warm if that, never hot. It was over sauced. It was not as described on the menu and overall I would give it a 2 out of 5. The service was always great both from the hostesses and the wait staff. O'Sheehan's was our go to. Food was about a 4 out of 5. They had good wings (though very small), their hot turkey and roast beef sandwiches were great, as was the ruben. However, service was slow. And once you were done eating they never came back to see if you wanted a drink. We ate lunch there pretty much every day. And snack time too. The buffet we visited twice. Neither of us our buffet fans. Too many hands touching food, too many people sneezing, eating in line or just walking in front of you. However, the salad bar was excellent. So if you need a healthy alternative go for that. We really cannot rate it as we only tried it once. Le Bistro used to be my favourite restaurant on NCL. This time, it was a disappointment. Our escargot was cold, not even warm (the butter in the dish was white still). They did bring us a new one that was pretty good. Could have used some more flavour (garlic and pepper) but it wasn't horrible. My meal was pretty gross. When you say colossal or jumbo shrimp don't bring me tiny frozen ones. My husband had a vegetarian entree which sounded really good. But it was cold. We cannot decide if it was supposed to be that way or not. However, if I order an entree I expect it to be warm unless the menu says otherwise. Overall were were very disappointed. Moderno - another traditionally tasty restaurant on other NCL ships. However, this one has a smaller salad bar than the buffet and they pushed all the different meats out to us in about 10 minutes. We didn't have time to chew let alone digest. It was the worst dining experience on the ship. Los Lobos - finally, a decent meal. I love Mexican food so I was very happy with my meal here. It is the cheapest of the specialty restaurants but probably the most flavourful. You could really just go and have some appetizers cause the complimentary chips and salsa are almost enough. The service was fantastic and the food was the best of the cruise to this point. They need to expand this restaurant to other ships. LaCucina - our favourite by far. We ended up eating here 3 times. Twice I had pasta and once the sea bass. Both were 10 our of 10. My husband had the lamb twice and again 10 out of 10. And you have to try the chocolate torte for dessert. YUM! The service here was amazing and we were about to sit outside the restaurant where we could see and hear the piano player at Gatsby's. By far the highlight of our trip. Bamboo - if you like asian, don't waste your time. It was very artificially to me, they loaded our table with food instead of bringing a couple things at once, and it was just not flavourful. Good service once again though. Entertainment - there is not one bad thing I can say about the entertainment on the ship. The professional style shows were amazing. We sat in the front row all the time. The Illusionist was outstanding. The dancing 10 out of 10 and the singing, out of this world! NCL never disappoints. Around the ship there was a ton of music and fun game shows etc. All of it was great. Our favourite bar/lounge was Gatsby's Champagne bar. Nightly piano music or soft tunes from a band. It was a quite location and never overly packed. We also enjoyed the atrium bar during the day when it was quiet. The pool area was nice. Surprisingly even on a sea day you could find seats. The loungers along the edge of the pool were perfect for me. When I got hot I just splashed myself or put my feet in the water. I am not a big swimmer so this was nice. Service around the pool was also great. I actually didn't see many chair hogs so overall it was great. We did 3 shore excursions and unfortunately had 2 cancel. The 3 we did were great. If you are in Bonaire be sure to do the Clear bottom kayak and snorkel. Amazing. Curacao we did "fun beach express" which gave us about a 45 minute tour on the way to a beautiful beach club. The tour was outstanding. Very interesting. And in Aruba we went to De Palm Island. Fantastic snorkelling and tons of stuff for all ages. Open bar, free food, waterpark, salsa dancing lessons, snorkelling, scuba diving, scuba, banana boat, zip lining and more. We booked a private cabana directly through De Palm Island and it was perfect. Free bottle of sparkling wine and unlimited OJ gave us mimosas for the day. The cabana allowed me to sit in the sun and my husband sit in the shade. It also had private stairs into the water to the amazing snorkelling. In Barbados we booked a private deep sea fishing tour with Reel Crazy. If you are ever there check them out. Great guides and a fantastic day on the water (3 barracuda was our catch). The experience from the cruise has left us wondering about trying another cruise line. Or maybe the smaller NCL ships are just not for us. We are actually going to take a hiatus from cruising for a bit to see if we miss it. After 7 cruises with NCL and 13 in total, I would have to say this was the most disappointing yet. Read Less

Choose because timing was right for our schedule. Itinerary was interesting as the islands were the last ones to be discovered in the Caribean for us. Don't be fooled by a ship remodeled for the better. This ship, as the others had a spinnaker lounge. They took it away and filled the space with more cabins. Normally there is a deck area at the rear with some buffet service. Not here!, so if you want to sit somewhere in a relaxing atmosphere, you go to the atrium or the Bliss and be surrounded by lot's of people or Karaoke singers. We decided to stay at the cabin for sea views and relax. The captain party: Give me a break. I am used to have a "party" consisting on having captain and officers and the captain giving a short speech. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres being served. Not here. The captain was there but did not go on stage and we did not get any food because the only attendant with the tray never got to offer to us and run out of them.. sorry, next time. Food: We always rely on the Garden Café. It was well presented and variety was adequate. But we noted that the only fish served was tilapia, in all the possible combinations, with coconut sauce, lemon, herbs, etc. Other meats were all the same but with different names to make it more appealing. Did not visit any specialty restaurant. Entertainment: Good news is that the Stardust theater has been maintained! After seen the theater of the Escape, they could have reduced the size, but no, is still there. The shows? Musicals are all the same, Comedian was pathetic, magician was very good and so were the acrobats. Normally the last day show would bring the crew on stage, including the captain, officers and the "washy-washy". Not in the Down. All we got was the cruise director yelling thank you! Can't get personal about the individual, but I have seen much better ones. Because San Juan is still recuperating from the last hurricanes, there is only one gangway. Narrow so only one person wide can pass. Now try to squeeze 2-3000 people there in a short time. But wait, I am silver level and they claim I have disembarkation privileges! Well, not here: People had to endure passing through narrow corridors of deck 4, with very poor ventilation and pack with people not moving. Wife had her claustrophobic anxiety spell and begged me to do something as she was turning green. At the end we got outside to fresh air and things got to normality, but it was a very bad experience. Not that it makes a lot of difference, but on other ships the washy-washy was always attentive and got everybody, in and out. Not here! I used the provided sanitizing dispenser most of the times as they were distracted or not concentrated on the job. It is obvious that on this ship, Norwegian is up to cut costs and maximize revenues. Gone are the little chocolates left at your bed at night. And the bottle of "French Champagne" is quite average to say the least. Finally, one of the excursions offered was "Historic Antigua and Beach". And at the beach we got a meal with drink. A drink with ice cubes. One of the ice cubes was complete with a frozen fly inside!, Noting the anomaly to the attendant, the ice cube was removed (With a spoon) and a new one without fly was dropped. Would I go on the Dawn again? Sorry, but the answer is NO, and I hope that what I have seen here is not the trend for Norwegian, or I will migrate to other cruise lines. Read Less

We have been on the Dawn several times, were very much looking forward to seeing the renovations and were pleasantly surprised at all the changes. We boarded in San Juan PR to a very smooth and quick embarkation, the staff at the pier were wonderful including the luggage porters. We got into our cabin at about 1pm, my first piece of luggage arrived at about 1:30, at about 2:30 to my amazement found my second piece of luggage in front of a cabin about 10 cabins from where i was staying however no signs of my husband's suitcase. At 3:45 went to muster drill fully expecting the suitcase to be there when we got back, NOT! At 6:45 called CS and was very rudely told "there is a lot of luggage that is in disarray and we have until 8:30 to get the luggage delivered" preceded by a hang up on the phone. We then had to leave for dinner reservations at Los Lobos (which may I add was outstanding) with my husband having nothing but the clothes he boarded with. Arriving back at the cabin at 10:30 still with no suitcase called CS again and was told that there were 30 suitcases there with no luggage tags there and he would have to come and look, before every cruise I have our tags laminated with the strongest laminate and attach with a rubber fastener to the suitcases and have never had any problem with them coming off. He went to CS and in fact his suitcase was there with the fastener still on and the luggage tag removed. Okay so a mishap let's just enjoy from here on out, went to the Latitudes meeting the next day and having such a positive experience at Los Lobos, purchased $1000 in future cruise credits only to realize pending future disasters this was a HUGE mistake. We went to Le Bistro that evening at the request of two other couples we were traveling with for a birthday dinner, another HUGE mistake.....Appetizers came out stone cold, scallops rubbery and shrimp overcooked, the main entree Duck Parmentier like cardboard with enough salt to give anyone a heart attack not to mention the presentation was that you would find in a high school cafeteria, the birthday girl ordering the same entree felt the same as I did and addressed the chef. As a result of this and the luggage incident we scheduled a meeting with the Hotel Director Tony only to find out that the CS manager would be there also. He not only blamed my husband for not putting on the luggage tag securely on his luggage but the San Juan porters for being to rough and tearing off the tag, as for the dinner well that was my fault because he had never had any other complaints but to humor me he would meet with the chef and do a full "investigation". After 4 days of unsatisfactory food in the main dining room and not hearing back from the hotel director I cancelled my future cruise credits! I did finally on the 5th day receive a call from the hotel director stating that in a meeting with the chef they had decided that it was not the quality of the food, preparation and presentation but the fact that I just was unhappy with the menu change however he did want to invite me and and my traveling companions as so to "impress them" (whatever that means!) to Cagney's or La Cucina for a dinner and a bottle of wine on him. I did tell him that we had already dinner reservations at Cagney's and declined his invitation, obviously not understanding that after three insults from him I could not be bothered with anything from him! As for La Cucina, we decided 8-9 cruises prior we would never go there again! We did go to Cagney's the last night and as always the taste of the food was superb however it was served on cold plates and all of our filet's were cold. So all in all, we have been loyal only to NCL for 9 years and 11 cruises and yes we would like this to be be our last! We have a cruise booked on the Pride of America in April that we will only stay booked on solely because of it's itinerary (and believe me I have checked ALL others) not because we expect much of the ship or crew which may I add we have been warned by several people the crew is all American so not to expect the best service, What we have progressively noticed on our last four cruises is a substantial decline in on board Customer Service, serious drop in crew moral and the loss of charm that NCL once possessed but now appears to have lost. It is abundantly clear is is time to book elsewhere. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the length of the trip, the reviews from our travel agent and time schedule. The embarkation process was smooth, the fact that we arrived 3 hours after the initial process help a lot. The ship schedule accuracy is pristine, they dont play around, they say they leave 4:30pm and they do. Theres a lot of places to eat around, free and paid. The ship was really clean. The service received from our steward was excellent, a very friendly man from Bali, Mr Gusti. With that been said, lets start with the not so good part. The Cabin was hot most of the time, the first 5 - 6 Nights were unbearable and i mean sweat at 2:00am. We barely slept because of the heat. We called guest services a couple times, they sent a technician that told us about a damper and power surges and the fact the vent was open to %75 because of that. In the end he did something everytime, but the temp was not even close to cold or fresh. The cabin bathroom didnt want to flush for a couple of times, the worst event was the last night, stood like that for 2 hours. We felt discriminated at times, because of the table expenditure. The moment they realized we were not much of a fan of alcohol or expensive beverages, the service went from 10 to 0. One night we were accomodated on one side of o'sheehan's, the side where there was no one else because of the need of a low table for my son in a wheelchair, that night we saw the waiter like 2 times...the rest of the service i had to either call for them or stand up . Only at the specialty restaurants we felt welcome from start to end. The debarkation process with a wheelchair was really difficult, had to compete with rude people and anxious to get home. The procedure stated that cabins with people with wheelchairs met at the le bistro lounge, we arrived there on time, but no one from the ship was there...they were on a different zone of the lounge(close to the kitchen or service area). I asked a security person about the process, but he was clueless, but he was kind enough to make the calls and guide us to the correct zone. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the intinerary as it had excellent port of calls. Embarkation was easy and went smoothly. The ship is small but nice. We had an Interior cabin which was small but adequate. Room steward pleasant. Garden restaurant okay but didn't think set up of buffet flowed. Was not as good as previous cruise lines we have been on. Last couple of days of the cruise no cereal out and told none, a crew member when asked said if unhappy write in and complain. Food we had in O'Sheehans was nice but warm. Bamboo the food was lovely. In the Venetian restaurant the staff performed their job but food was average. Normally we are use to a hard choice between puddings but no such problem this time. Entertainment by the Headlining act was exceptional..Duo NiKa,Haines Magic, The Queens of Soul and especially Elements is not to be missed. The in house singers and dancers performed well and were good. All the bar staff were quick, efficient and friendly especially the ones in O'Sheehans. Chose this cruise due to the great ports listed in the original itinerary. Could have definitely lived without Guadaloupe stop which was substituted for St. Martin. Have been on 14 prior cruises, second on NCL and was really disappointed at how crowded and noisy the common areas were. The atrium area, coffee bar, pool, deck, Aqua and Venitian dining rooms and especially the Garden Cafe were all so loud and overcrowded. Everyone seeming to try to talk over everyone. Mostly could not find a place to sit for breakfast or lunch, and kids running everywhere, unsupervised. Used our mid ship patio often for some peace and quiet as well as trying to find a quiet spot on deck. We found the entertainment to be excellent. As well as the service. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Cabin size was disappointing. We have experience larger rooms in same category on other cruise lines. Closet and storage space was space and no night tables with drawers. If this is NCL's product, it may be awhile before we consider another cruise with them. Read Less
