On our NCL cruise aboard the Norwegian Sun, November 2 -- December 2, 2016, the staff was out of control.  Room cleaning was completely substandard.  Staff made little response to requests from the passengers.  Staff retaliated against "complainers."  In one instance, NCL staff left fresh excrement on the shower curtain of a couple who reported multiple times that they could not turn off the heat in their cabin. Our trip was ruined from the start.  Passengers are telling each other their bad experiences on board and there were numerous complaints. 1) Our stateroom 8312 temperature was too cold - not inhabitable for us.  We could not shut off the freezing cold current of air.  In addition to being so cold, there was mildew everywhere on the bathroom floor and the vent in the room was extremely dirty. 2) We were lied to for about ten days about a possible solution to the cold air. 3) Finally after my husband went to emergency room for uncontrollable shivering and feverish temperature, we were given a "heater" to counter the cold air.  Because of the pipeline from the heater has to be connected to the bathroom exhaust, our room smelled like sewer.  Even people down the hall could smell it and our steward didn't want to come in to our room to do the routing cleaning. 4) The cruise doctor would not admit that my husband's problem was caused by cold temperature in the room even he could not find what was wrong by tests.  5) The bathroom drain was not working well and water was slashing around the bathroom floor for days, before a technician showed up.  The problem was not fixed properly, but the condition got better. 6) Then the sink no longer draining.  Took two different engineers and three days to fix the very clogged, smelly drain. 7) Our room floor carpet became wet from water condensation from the heater, which has no pipeline installed to lead the water away. 8) The cruise finally offered to change our rooms, but said that we could only stay there for four nights and no guarantee the room would have heat.  There would not be room for a heater.  By then, we had no confidence in their words. 9) The cruise staff was so disorganized and miss communicated.  We were told one thing at one time and another the next.  On the morning of arriving Valparaiso, Chile, we were harassed by a front desk officer by ordering us to leave our room or he would send security to throw us out right after we were told to stay in there by another officer.  10) I served meals to my husband who was sick in bed for the entire trip and we had to cancel excursions and let go $650 ship credit. 11) Our complaints met a blind eye by the captain, who told me that "We don't serve individuals."   He admitted that there was no heat in some cabins and most of time there was no heat on the ship at all.  However, some passengers complained that their rooms were roasting hot and some were too cold.  People got sick and complaints were everywhere.  Compare to other cruises we took, NCL Sun was unbelievably worse in their services, room comfort and their willingness to solve problems. We had no room comfort problems on any other ship we sailed. We wrote to management many times.  We were disappointed. We paid over $6,400 for a trip of life time, but we had a miserable time because of bad service leading to illness.   The NCL Sun cruise started on Nov. 2, 2016 from San Diego and ended on Dec. 3, 2016 at the port of Bueno Aires, Argentina, totaling 31 days.  My husband hardly went on shore and he spent most his time in bed. Norwegian Sun staff told us the reason that they continued to work on this ship, because they had no pressure or less pressure.  That explains why the service was bad.   To us, a good service is the management and staff take proactive approach to problem solving.  Show us they care.  But some key staff and officers on Norwegian Sun had bad attitude including lying to make problem go away.  Read Less

This cruise was HORRIBLE. Friday we get an email saying no stop over in Mazatlán. We purchased a cruise for 7day, 3 port adventure. We only stopped in 1 port and was held over night due to maintaince that needed to be done. Of course on our time. which should have been done when no passengers were on board. Carpeting being done in the stairways, dangerous to all. SMELL was aweful through out , I guess due to plumbing. They knew this before we left California, unreal. We were taking friends for their first cruise. They upgraded their cabin, toilet stopped working for 3 days, They paid a lot of money to upgrade! Captain anounces that we will not be stopping in next port. Due to maintance issues taking so long. People were very upset, we even signed a petition! Totally unacceptable on NCL, we want a refund!!! Food was cold and flavorless, $5.00 for a bottle of water? REALLY???? Chinese resturant was food out of a box. NASTY! Only good food was the BBQ in the pool area, but couldn't find a seat. Service was sad, bartender in Java bar told me to go get a Pina Colada at another bar, he was out. We had to go to the bar to get drinks. Small wait staff? Entertainment, comedian was good. Otherwise same thing every night. Couldn't go on a shore excursion, couldn't get to shore. Never again! We were celebrating our 32 anniversary, Read Less

This was our 69th cruise, but our first AND LAST on NCL! First, they transposed two numbers of our room, and had our credit card registered to another passenger. It took about 45 minutes in line at the embarkation desk to get it straight. NCL wouldn't even have noticed if I hadn't questioned the clerk about which credit card they had on file. The service and food in the dining rooms were ridiculously poor. The trivia games were a joke, and the ship needs major refurbishing. The excursions were so disappointing and expensive. The air conditioning on our bus in Acapulco was not working well, and it was scorching hot! We all begged the tour guide to take us back to the ship, but he refused and forced us to go to a "mall" consisting of one over-priced shop. In Cartagena, we were in the last carriage and couldn't hear a word on our ear pieces. Then, when we got off the carriage, we looked around and couldn't find a soul from our group! He hadn't told us when or where to meet the bus, and we were frantic! After searching up and down the crowded sidewalk, we finally saw someone we recognized. For the first time ever, I was anxious to get off a ship and go home! Read Less

1. To embark we had to wait in line for more than 2 hours even when we arrived at the pre-registered time. We had to wait from 1:30 pm to almost 4 pm to board the ship. 2. Again we had to wait for 1 hour at disembarkation. We were told to disembark at 7:45 am. We waited in line at a very small space with standing room only until 9 pm. 3. Staff at Guest Services had no clue what were going on on board. They could never answer any questions without checking with others. When they did not know the answers, they shrugged their shoulders, 'too bad, can't help you, you are on your own'. 4. The dinner menu was always the same, because NCL tried to force you to go to the pay restaurants where the gratuity was included in the bill, but the passengers were expected to give more tips. 5. Since all tips paid in advance were lower per NCL, the attitudes of some of the service staff were arrogant and careless. 6. For a 17-day cruise, there were 8 days at sea. All activities were planned to make more money out of the passengers. 7. The loud speakers of the general announcement must have inferior qualities, because the passengers could hardly hear what had been announced. 8. There were no big screen movies provided. You can only watch movies in your stateroom via the small screen TV and the same movies were played over and over and over again. Overall, there were a major management issue of the chief hotel manager(s). From embarkation to disembarkation, a state of chaos reined the procedures. There were no consideration for seniors or physical challenged persons. After this experience, I will not even consider a free cruise with Norwegian Cruise line. Read Less

Starting with the departure from San Diego, it was a two hour long wait in a hot line before we were checked in and started walking towards the ship. I found the ship to be old and unexciting. Our cabin was on deck ten we were awaken every morning by the noise of deck chairs being dragged across the pool deck. Also from the noise of balcony chairs being moved across the metal balconies. I found the food on this ship to be the worst on any other cruise ship we have been on. I did not like the selection of food in either the buffet or in the main dining rooms. The service on the ship was maybe average. We were always having to ask for waters or coffee to be refilled. The service onboard this ship did not warrant having to pay $13.50 X 2 a day in gratuities. Don't see us sailing on Norwegian again. Read Less

You get what you pay for. All they want to do is sell you crap. Everything is a la carte. A glass of wine is almost ten dollars unless you buy the drink package. The average age of people on board was almost 60. So if you're young and want to go with people your own age dont take this one. If you want to be charged 4 dollars for a soda or water take this cruise. Their casino is extremely one sided. There is nothing less than 6 deck continous shuffle for blackjack and their slot machines have a 15 percent payout. I dont think they have gaming standards because they are in international waters. Half of the ships television stations are their own version of QVC. All they do is try to get you to spend money on there. They have art galleries and duty free shops. They try and sell gem stones no one has ever heard of like its as valuable as diamonds or gold. They sell shore excursions for twice the going rate and really your just paying to get off the ship before everyone at the port. About 95% of the crew speak little to no english because they work them like slaves and pay them next to nothing. If you break it down they make about 3 dollars a hour if they are lucky. So if you want to get ripped off, pay for water, watch slave labor, buy non valuable things for the price of gold then this trip is for you. They charged an elderly man 5$ for 10 asprin. They werent even vicodin or something good. Oh and dont drink the water bottle thats sitting in your room that looks free but costs 5$. Yes 5$ for a water bottle. It really makes you think what kind of people own this company. Read Less

The buffet was so hot ALL day long we had to eat in the sports bar where it was cooler, we were told it was hot since the doors are always being opened never experienced this on other NCL ship which were built with the same design doors to the outdoors on each end. We spoke to the Food and beverage Manager and also had a one on one meeting with the Hotel Director to allow them to address our concerns a free bottle of wine and a specialty dinner was to right all the wrongs from day one, we wanted better service. I have taken 11 cruises total and NCL SUN was the absolute worst ship I have ever been on. I had a Suite #8077 that was not much bigger than a balcony state room. It was the noisiest most vibrating room from the engines that I have ever been in. I got absolutely no rest on this cruise. The ships AC was not working 7 of the 11 day cruise!!! The staff was very nice and friendly but you could tell the last 2 days of the cruise they were all getting sick with some kind of respiratory problems and it so happens all 3 of our passengers came home with upper respiratory infections. There is absolutely NOTHING to do on this ship after 10pm except casino. This ship was like a floating Nursing Home. I was really looking forward to the Mexican Riviera cruise but was very disappointed in the ports of call. Read Less
