We took this cruise as we had done the trans Atlantic in 2014 on same vessel. This time it felt like a mosh pit in the buffet. Lots of rude fellow passengers. Screw freestyle cruising, thongs and pubic hair don't belong in the buffet line. Preferred main dining room. After being served way late after requesting gluten free meals on special order it was just easier to just try and pic menu items that were listed as GF. When we tried to special order the dining managers just said to pick other menu items instead of putting in a real special order the night before. We sailed as latitude rewards platinum for first time and other than quick boarding did not feel special. Never got the sparkling wine delivered though requested 3 times from Cruise Next. (if out, say it instead of insisting it would be delivered) No concierge as listed by cruise next welcome brochure. Guest service desk denied platinum was eligible. Disembarking was a cluster you know what. I realized late only idiots wait until announced to easy walk off as it seemed most passengers jumped the gun and lined up anyway. We didn't get priority disembarking as promised to platinum as no info was given out. When we reached gangway we saw a door with barrier that must have been for priority disembarkation from the stardust theater area. But this was a better cruise than January HK to Sydney of this year on same vessel. Port of Barcelona should of been scrubbed due to demonstrations and transportation strike but they had already changed the VI port for France. My main complaint that this had a lot of sick people on it coughing and sneezing. Yes, I boarded healthy and caught a cold and stayed abed two days with fever so as not to infect others. Most did not segregate themselves when sick. Entertainment was a lot of rehash of previous cruises. Ok for first time cruisers, I guess. Read Less

The cruise from Roma to Miami was fantastic. Our first time Transatlantic and it was delightful. The entire staff, from Captain Andersson to our steward Wei Linn, were special. Even when we came into contact with back-of-house utility staff and housekeeping staff, they would engage us in conversation, most always with a smile, asking hour our experience was. Thoroughly enjoyed the Noon addresses by Captain! The food was delicious, fresh, well prepared, seasoned and presented...from the morning breakfasts of fresh fruit, oatmeal and much-appreciated various curries in the Market Place, to the scrumptious hamburgers poolside, to the fantastic experiences in Cagney's, Moderno, Teppanyaki, Versailles and Sushi. The food and service, under Kevin's guidance, was appreciated, especially with the wide variety of food and service available for the 15-night cruise. The beverage program, though a bit pricey, was first rate. The generous pours and the cheerful tenders and cocktail servers were knowledgeable, efficient and pleasant. We enjoyed Norwegian's partnership with Robert Mondavi family of wines...also enjoyed the wine tasting seminar - - the sommelier was fantastic! We took advantage of the Thermal Spa package and did not regret it. The staff and facilities were outstanding...especially the quiet relaxation rooms after our workouts, with that gorgeous view aft! Nice, clean facilities and well-maintained. Cruise Director Tom and staff were spectacular...they Shined the entire cruise. Loved the shows, trivia, bingo, painting class, choir and many other activities. We look forward to our next sailing with Norwegian!! (Washie-washie!) Read Less

We picked this cruise as part of a B2B, Venice to Rome, Rome to Miami. We enjoyed everything from the entertainment, food, crew, fellow passengers, behind the scenes tour and room. I departed Venice with a girlfriend and then got upgraded to a fiance so the Star and Dave playing "It's a Wonderful World" will always have a special place in my heart. The staff kept us updated on any issues going on in Barcelona. It would have been great if they had told us what was going on with an illness that many passengers got. Not a word. Also not sure why we had to have a muster drill 12 days into the crossing. Lack of information leads to rumors. We got the usual incorrect information from the NEXT desk we expect it. Shame on me for going back to them. The crew was very friendly and helpful. Since this was not our first time on this ship it was great that several "old friends" were still on the ship. Read Less

A friend had booked and we were joining him so we did not select the cruise. We spent 8 nights in Rome prior to the cruise. Norwegian is a familiar name to us and it was our first cruise with them. We were impressed with all of the activities. when the itinerary was changed and we were 8 days at sea it didn’t feel like it to me. There were lots of things to do. I especially liked the choices for dining and tried some of the specialty restaurants using the dining plan. Service was superb. Everyone we came in contact with made us feel they wanted us to enjoy our trip. We are both retired from a 4 Diamond hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan after over 40 years In the hospitality industry and we felt the staff was well trained, hardworking and met all expectations. The housekeeping department was awesome. 5ank you for a fun, relaxing vacation. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the itinerary for the Meditterrean. This was my 12th cruise and 3rd cruise with Norwegian. I was very disappointed in the ship. The crew was not very friendly - rude at times. All onboard activities and beverages were very expensive. The service was ok but there was nothing personal about the service. We only saw our cabin steward twice, but our cabin was clean. The entertainment was mediocre when compared to my other cruises. Many shore excursions were cancelled after having been reserved with no alternatives offered. There seemed to be a great deal of disorganization when embarking and disembarking at the ports. Directions were not clear. Crew members did not seem to be able to answer questions. You always got the response that it was not there area. We visited with many people onboard the ship, and I know that my observations were the same as other passengers. I would not cruise on this ship again and am not sure I will cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

Just returned from my E. Mediterranean cruise on the Spirit. I choose this cruise specifically for the ports. I flew into Rome two days early. I organized two shared shuttles with Civitavecchia Shuttle Express. They arrived on time both times. The boarding process was quick and smooth. I thought the ship was fine, for me this is just a mode of transportation to get from port to the next. I've never been on any of the new mega ships. I actually like these smaller ships just fine. The food in the MDR was not that great, went in there three times then decided to just stick with the buffet and ate at Shoguns twice which was great. The buffet will have themed nights like grill extravaganza, oriental, seafood, Mediterranean. The food was good, I think at this level of cruise that is what your going to get it's not gourmet. The first stop Mykonos we had to tender off the ship, it took about 1.5 hours due to the wind picking up and being on tender number 12. We just waked around this port DIY. Athens you walk right off the ship the hop & off buses are out of the terminal to the right. Took the H&O bus into Athens I had already been here so I went to the Ancient Agora, Plaka, and walked a little then back on the H&O bus. Ancient Agora was very cool. Rhodes you can walk right off the ship and cross the street to the Medieval Town, DIY here too. Palace of Grand Masters is closed on Mondays so that was a bummer. Santorini I'd been here before I rented a car and did my own thing didn't want to be rushed around by a tour guide. Crete there are local buses waiting to take you into town, DIY here too. Went to the Maritime Museum just a few euros the main one is the red two story to the left of the waterfront. Valletta we went on an excursion with Malta Private Guide they did a great job. Sicily we went on a shared excursion here too with Sicily w/ Mario. Naples another shared excursion with AP Tours "Full Amalfi Coast" both this port and Sicily were nice but to get to these places it's such a long drive. But they were gorgeous. I had a great time even it rained in Mykonos, Sicily and my last day in Rome. I will cruise again with NCL, actually already have a Carribbean cruise paid for with them and gave a deposit while I was on this cruise because they match it dollar for dollar. It's always sad to have to leave the ship and come back to reality. Had a great time. Read Less

I saw an advert for the cruise of the the Eastern Mediterranean, which reminded me of the days spent in this area with the Royal Navy, many years ago. The embarkation and disembarkation was so easy, compared with other cruise lines we had traveled with in the past. There were two places where the ship could not go alongside, they did NOT mess about with Tenders, in both places they had hired large boats, that went back and fro, from the ship all day. These boats could hold about 200 people at a time, it made going ashore the easiest I have ever seen. For its age, the Norwegian Spirit was in excellent condition. The Captain and Crew were all so friendly and mixed with the passengers. Frequently on other ships, you never even see the Captain. We had a Balcony stateroom plenty of room, the Toilet / Shower, was larger than most, The Windows Dining Room is fantastic, Huge Windows that look out of the stern of the ship. The entertainment was on every night, two performances, very good shows. The service was excellent, they could not do enough for you, always so helpful. The places we went were all so beautiful and historical, Rome, Santorini, Rhodes, Athens, Chania, Valletta, Naples. It was hard to get your head around all this in 10 days. Highly recommend this Cruise. Everything was wonderful, including the food and drinks Read Less

We are an active senior citizen couple who enjoy cruising. This was our second cruise with Norwegian .After a 6 night stay in Rome we took the train to Civitavechia. We got there around 1:00, boarding went very smoothly. The room was ready for us and our bags were brought in around 3:00. We went to Raffles and enjoyed a nice lunch. The lifeboat drill was long and boring but we were used to that. The inside cabin was very small (11037) but nicely laid out with a nice closet. We had a problem with a foul odor in the bathroom, It smelled of sewage all the time but some days were worse than others. We had a perscription problem and needed to go to the ship's clinic on our first morning. The medical staff were wonderful to us and helped us straighten everything out in less than half an hour. We enjoyed nice breakfasts and dinners in the main dining rooms almost every day. We did not go to the big shows but we really enjoyed the smaller ones. The violinist and the aerialists were spectacular, the soprano and the Beatles tribute band were very good too. The ship's band was great. We only went on one excursion, "Scenic Malta". This tour was a big disappointment! The guide did not want to be there, the coach itself was miserably uncomfortable, we jammed in one on top of the other and there was no legroom. We were looking forward to seeing Medina but all they did was slow the bus down so we could look at the wall around it. The bus made stops for us to get out and take pictures at a marina, at another marina where there was also venders in kiosks and toilets, and a short photo stop at the Blue Grotto and the Dingly Cliffs. The ship's staff was absolutely wonderful our cabin steward was wonderful and the restaurant staff were very good too. Our reason for selecting this cruise was the ports and we loved them all especially Santorini, Athens and Rhodes. Read Less
