My husband and I have been on several Norwegian cruises (Escape and Jade) and decided to go on the Epic. The good: embarkation process took about 30 minutes -buffett food was decent - most of the staff we dealt with were friendly-comedians were hilarious-food allergy attendants were very knowledgeable- main dining restaurants were very good- The Beatles musicians were fantastic The bad: The shows were terrible and there were no family appropriate show options. All of the game shows were held in the attium where the seating was cramped and it was difficult to hear. The casino was right in the middle of the ship so you had to walk through smoke to get to restaurants, shops, etc,. The few options that were family friendly cost an additional fee and were always booked. Disembarkation was the most unorganized thing that I have ever seen. Lines in every direction without any guidance from staff. It took us three hours to get off the ship. We were oin our disignated area at 7:45 when rhey called for us and did not get through customs until 10:45. It was a complete nightmare people breaking in line and no one there to direct you where to go. When we asked where to go we were told to follow the line. The design of the staterooms was terrible. The toilet area was tiny and and there was no privacy. My husband and I kept waking each other up because the toilet was so loud when flushed. The bed was wide, but it’s curved which makes it shorter. I am 5”8 and my feet were hanging off the end of the bed. The ugly:The ship was dirty- our stateroom 11179 was disgustingly filthy. When we entered our stateroom there were crumbs on the bed, the floor and the carpet was stained. We asked our steward to vacuum our room and he apologized and cleared the crumbs. I noticed a stain by the bed where someone had thrown up on the wall and it had obviously ran down to the carpet. I showed the wall to our steward and he said “oh that is an old stain, but I will try to clean it”. As he was cleaning the stain and the dead bug that was smooshed on the wall he picked up a sleeping mask and handed it to me. I explained that the mask did not belong to me and he apologized. In summary, I will continue to cruise , but I will never go on the Epic again. Read Less

This cruise was given to us from a casino, we chose to take this one because the port was convenient to us, and we had never been to the Caribbean. Because both of us got a "free" cruise, we combined the two and upgraded to a balcony cabin. The ship was extremely crowded. The smoking area and main pool bar, was at the kiddie pool area, We paid for an all inclusive drink package: did not cover water bottles, but we were given casino drink cards that did, while you were in the casino. We also paid for 3 specialty dining package: there were no pretravel reservations made for the specialty dining and we just happened on someone making reservations for passengers on the ship, so we stood in line and made those ourselves, with no idea what the different restaurants offered. All of the specialty restaurants we ate at had superb service. The food at the Moderno (Brazilian) was good, but the menu says they offer so much more than they brought around, and they were extremely slow in bringing the selections. The buffet offered very bland food, unless you had the chefs cook-to-order food, at the stations that offered that, or you ate at the kiddie food stations, that food was always fresh and hot! We met many passengers that only ate hot dogs and macaroni and cheese and french fries that whole cruise...what does that tell you? The buffet shut down at 9pm. The only 24 hour dining option, O'Sheehans, shut down as well, and if you wanted to eat or have a drink in the wee hours, you could choose from the weird sandwiches and pastries they left on the counter, no restaurant service. Room service was also 24 hours, but we didn't want to try and eat in our room, didn't think there was sufficient space. We ate(not really) at Taste, one of the complimentary main dining rooms one evening. The service was mediocre, the food we ordered was wrong and the steak was purple raw, we walked out of there, without taking one bite. We advised the supervisor, and he made us reservations for a later time, and assured us it would be better, we didn't go back. There were other passengers that complained about the raw steak too. The entertainment on the pool deck was poor. We played bingo once, basically to pass time. We paid for our tickets, and when we got in, noticed there were kids in there, the kids were allowed to play, FOR FREE. with their parents, and allowed to win...guess who won?! the kids for the most part won the bingo and the gift prizes, 2 of the 3 kids picked their own parents' tickets for prizes...hmmmm. That was insulting to the people who paid to play. We didn't play again. The casino was extremely outdated, as far as the slots that were offered. There were a select few newer games, and those were rarely available. We also witnessed a few jackpots, and seemed to be the same people...another hmmmm. Table games were abundant, but closed seemingly early. There were times when there was not one attendant any where in the casino. I watched a passenger win $1900. on a slot at 7 am, and had to wait for someone to pay him until 9:30 am...needless to say, he was not happy. The cabin stewards were extremely friendly and helpful. The cabins were clean as far as bathroom and linens, but there were visible hand and fingerprints on the closet doors from who knows how many previous cruisers and I can't imagine what germs lurked there. The shore time was extremely short, when we did finally get to port. Seemed as though it was very rushed. We were at sea 95% of this 7 Day cruise. We did find it easy to get off and on the ship at the different ports. The shopping was fun and different, if you like that, but a lot of the stores were not handicapped accessible. The last port, which was the ship's private island, was accessible by tender only, so the passengers in wheelchairs were not able to go. Just putting that out here, because we thought that was crappy. My husband was excited to see the waterslide and pools on the island, until he realized that was another ship's island, and our island was the dirt patch on the other side, with lighthouses. You had to pay for chairs to sit on the beach, and all excursions were cancelled at that stop due to weather conditions, and you weren't told that until you got to the island, by tender. We booked a shore excursion, or so we thought, in Torola, through the interactive tv, which we really wanted. When we didn't receive tickets for it, we enquired at the excursion desk, and were told that we had to sign a release form(which was not mentioned, when we booked), and now it's full. Basically, sorry for your luck. Very disappointing! I guess we are just out that $50. credit. It was all around an expensive disappointment, even though we were given the cruise from a casino, it was extremely costly and we will never sail Norwegian again, even for free!!! And free is not free! Read Less

We've been on 12 cruises with all different cruise ships in the past. We will never go with NCL again. It is clear from the way they treated the paying guests of this cruise that they are in it to gouge the customer and offer as little service as possible. There were enormous lines for EVERYTHING. You could barely move in the public areas of the ship because of the number of people crammed in waiting in line for bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. You would have to wait in a line 3-4 people deep just to get a drink (almost anytime of day or night), and it was much, much worse for restaurants. Even the buffet had lines of 10 mins or more just to get a burger, with no seating available once you finally got some food. The main dining room offered the exact same lunch menu every day it was open AND it wasn't very good. They've made the cabins so small (we had a balcony) that it wasn't even fit for 1 person to be in. There was only one tv (non news) channel and one nonpay movie channel (which wouldn't have been a problem had we been able to get into a show which we did not). It was a 7 night cruise with only three stops (one of which was their crappy overcrowed island which you had to tender for). There were no spaces left on the popular excursions even a month in advance. Their internet service package was a joke. Most of the staff were barely polite in the dining areas and some of the ship's officers were down right rude. We couldn't wait to get off of this cruise but they even made that a hassle. It took us 2 hours and 30 minutes to get off this ship! They had passengers in a line that winded around the ship several times carrying our own luggage to get off! Definitely do not recommend this cruise! Read Less

Our experience with this cruise was so disappointing in every area. If you're cruising, please do yourself a favor and go with ANY other company! Food/Dining:  The food was terrible. Truly. The pizza was like frozen from a grocer’s freezer  section, apple pies were like rubber, and every other dessert I tried had no flavor and came out  of a box.   Our food on Carnival (only other cruise we’ve taken) was AMAZING. We still talk about how  fresh, hot, and plentiful it was, and especially how we never had to wait in line.    Breakfast buffet—10-15 minute lines for everything, even cereal, and that was often half-stocked  so then I’d have to go to another cereal line on the other side of the dining area. Customers were  heard each day remarking that they had never had to wait EVER for food on Norwegian before this particular cruise.    The ship itself was terribly overcrowded and we received very poor dining service in every  venue. We didn’t eat one meal without having to hear a customer complaining about wait time,  tables sitting not bused, lines, or supplies being out—water, ice, silverware, plates, cereal,  etc.—or without experiencing for ourselves some, or all of those problems EVERY MEAL.    There was rarely, if every, any ice ever in any drink, except those with alcohol. We got the  beverage package upgrade and consistently stood in line for at least 15-20 minutes each time  for every single drink. If you got a drink, you then had to wait while the bartender processed  several cards at once and then that drink was melted completely down.  Drinks were over-poured every time to the point that they were hard to swallow because they  were so strong. The flip side of this situation was that many who booked early received the  drink package as an upgrade, but the bartenders couldn’t keep up with the demand. Perhaps  they over-poured to make it worth the wait?? Try to keep some people happy? Once we found  two different mixed drinks on two different days but then were told after one drink that the  machine froze up, they ran out of strawberries, and ran out of limes. Seriously?     We also had the dining upgrade package for 3 specialty meals. However, even with 24 hours ahead of time calling for the steakhouse dinner reservation, there were none one left except one  for 7:30. Thank goodness we jumped at that one, because there were NONE available for the  Japanese restaurant or Cagney’s AT ALL DURING THE LAST THREE DAYS of the cruise.    Even on port days—one in particular when we were docked an additional 5 hours for “routine maintenance,” and most people were on Tortola for even part of the day, there was STILL a 20  minute wait for us to get a table for lunch at O’Sheehan’s...at 3:25! Three tables sat there cluttered and full of dirty dishes that just needed to be cleared. We just kept looking at the host and he looked at us. Then he finally took us to a table. It was dirty and we then had to stand and wait for him to wipe it off with a cloth that only served to make the table sticky and gummy after  he left. While we ate, two different tables of customers complained about poor service and bad food.  Entertainment: Speaking of reservations, the shows were as bad as the wait for food. They were all advertised  as “acclaimed,” but we never got to have an opinion because they were all always sold  out--every 24 hours! A few signs said some were on “stand-by,” but we were never told what  that meant in terms of your chances to get a ticket. With all of the other endless lines all week,  we didn’t want to waste another hour or two of our vacation trying to MAYBE see one. As a  result of every single one being booked every day, we did not get to see ONE show the entire  cruise! SO disappointing!    Ship/Accommodations: Our stateroom had a balcony and that aspect was comfortable in size & privacy.  However, inside the room, pulling the bed down from the ceiling was a ridiculous way to sleep 4.  We all hit our heads trying to access the closet, balcony, tv, & bathroom every evening. The room was so unbelievably narrow that often times each day someone had to step out into that  balcony just so we could all change, move suitcases, or even dry our hair. There was literally  room for one person at a time to walk through.    Our room for two on Carnival with only one small round window looking out was twice as large and twice as wide. I would have much preferred to be in THAT room this week with all four of  us. It was obvious again that Norwegian cares only about the profit, not the consumer. Even an extra foot of space would have made a world of difference, despite meaning fewer people sailing each week.    As for the boat itself, it rocked and swayed EVERY DAY, and was worse that the Carnival ship that was one third the size. We saw countless people wearing seasickness patches behind their  ears.    No tables were ever open for any buffet meal. There were no deck chairs open at ANY time of  day. Each time we wanted one, even in the “adult only” section, we had to stand and watch for  people to leave to ask for their chairs. Ridiculous.  The elevators were ridiculous to wait for as well. They were full of people half the time you  actually had one stop and open the door. They also stopped on every single floor bc everyone  had pushed the buttons, then gotten frustrated and took the stairs.  Waits for ship’s bathrooms were also consistently that long—for both genders! And at times, the  stall floors were a mess with water, paper, etc. and it was evident that they hadn’t been properly  cleaned in many hours.    I paid $178 for the wi-fi service and was also sorely disappointed. It was very unreliable & never strong enough to access anything from basic news websites to email. The only thing that came  in was Facebook, but not strong enough to upload more than one or two pictures at a time.    In terms of ports, the first two were good (minus an INCREDIBLY brief time at St. Thomas and  another RIDICULOUSLY long line to re-board the boat that day). However, the private island was  another story entirely.  We never knew the Epic didn’t pull into a port there and that we had to arrange transportation for  ourselves. Luckily another traveler told us the night before.  We signed up for tender #3 and followed the announcements made to board, but those on other  tenders (4, 5, etc.) lined up whenever they wanted. No Norwegian employee stopped them or  made them go back to the back of the line for line jumping, even though the video on the cruise  tv channel said this would happen. Once again, those of us who followed the policies were  penalized for doing so. It took 36 minutes in line to get seated on a tender, never mind the travel  time to get to the island.    Once on the island, we were disappointed again. Just like on the ship, there were not enough  chairs and we had to RENT a beach mat? My son waited the entire trip to get to rent a jet ski or a  paddle board and there were none running that day or being rented with ZERO explanation given  as to why. Meanwhile, we looked over at the Royal Caribbean island right next door and they had  water slides, kids rides, zip lining, jet skis, AND a pier so no one had to tender over. Does Norwegian seriously not think consumers won’t compare options??     Disembarkation: This was the icing on the cake for our week. Not only was this complete and total chaos, but it  was SO UNSAFE.    It took us more than 2 HOURS of lines to leave the ship. This caused us to miss our scheduled  9:00 shuttle to the airport and we then had to wait an ADDITIONAL 1:36 MINUTES SITTING ON  THE SIDEWALK and coordinate with TWO COMPANIES to finally get another shuttle.     Meanwhile, new cruisers were already boarding the Epic all around us for their “adventure.” We  wanted to tell them all to just turn around and walk away. Norwegian cares nothing about its customers because we were STILL THERE, unhappy and without help, but here were new paying  customers! Good luck to them, is all I had to say.    We were hoping for great service at a great value. We wanted family fun without the hassle, hot  & tasty meals, and relaxation. Unfortunately, we only experienced every opposite.      I honestly feel like my husband and I threw away and completely wasted our time and the money that this week cost us for the cruise, flight, hotel stay, & shuttles.    Our trip on the “Epic” was an “epic” failure.  Read Less

My family and I just returned back from a recent cruise on Norwegian Epic. We have sailed multiple times on other cruise lines including Disney and Royal Caribbean. This was by far my worst cruise experience and will definitely be my last on Norwegian cruise lines. My mother whom had traveled on Norwegian four previous times said she would no longer sail with Norwegian either because of this experience. We booked two rooms since we had six people traveling, three children and three adults. One of the rooms was originally an inside room and for our "free" offer we chose the premium drink package. My mother did decided to surprise us and paid for an upgrade prior to our cruise and when she spoke to a representative they informed her she now got to choose an "additional" two offers on top of our drink package so she chose premium dinning and excursion credit even though she knew we would not be able to do any excursions since the kids were too young for many of them. We get a drink on board and we were charged for the drink, the bartender said our card does not say we have a drink package and we would have to take it up with guest services. We went to guest services and there was a lady in front of us with the same issue. They told us when we upgraded our room, we voided our original drink package (even though we had a receipt to show we booked it) and they would not be able to figure it out until Monday when the corporate office opened. It was Saturday when we embarked. We informed the service representative that it didn't make any sense since we have the receipt showing where we booked it and the representative on the phone told us we we still have the drink package, they said there was nothing they could do since they needed an account to charge the drink package to. We got a voicemail in our room on Monday which simply stated "we checked with our office and this was the package you booked so we can't do anything for you, sorry". When we arrived to our room it was the smallest room I have ever seen. We had my 10 month old daughter with us and we asked for a pack and play which their response was "if we put a pack and play in the room it will be really cramped". Our thoughts were.... Of course it was cramped, they designed the rooms after watching my tiny house. There was no storage to even put our clothes away so we just lived out of our suitcase for the week. We booked their premium internet so our kids could use their tablets at night while we were in the room. The internet was advertised as unlimited internet for 4 devices. When we tried to get on a second device it stated we exceeded our device. We returned to the internet manager whom stated only one device could be used at a time and that was their highest package for internet. So basically we had to have someone log off before another kid could use it. Inside the room, my wife and I typically watching TV while we get our kids to sleep. Once you turn on the tv you find out there are only two actual channels. "Favorite TV" and "Favorite Movies". Everything else you have to pay for. Favorite TV and Favorite movies are essentially just rotating shows/movies they choose and you are stuck with watching. Even when you have a tv show your kids or you enjoy, it cuts off before it ends but you don't have to worry because that same episode or movie will be back on later that day only slightly longer or shorter. So you are stuck watching reruns of the same episodes of the same shows over and over again. On the ship the pools were always in repair. They drained the main pool twice during our seven day cruise for repair. The kids pool was closed during the entire day at sea with no one actually working on it. The food was mediocre at best in the general dining rooms. We had premium dinning which would have been nice except when we tried to book our meals (you only get three), all the times were booked before 9:30 pm. This was extremely frustrating since we tried to book the very first night on the ship. So our dining package went to waste completely. The ports of call were good. The process of tendering at the ports of call was terrible. Norwegian has you "book" your tenders and then calls you up by tender numbers. Probably good in theory but terrible in reality. We found out later that no one in the lines actually go by their tender numbers and some simply don't book or make any reservations. If you are trying to get to shore then you have to wait for your tender group to be called meanwhile everyone else in line is simply jumping in line. Our group was called and we couldn't even get off the ship for an additional hour because the staff was letting everyone who didn't make a reservation or book a tender get on the tender boats. Simply do away with the tender reservation and make it first come first serve like the other cruise lines, it makes it easier and less frustrating. Norwegian will nickle and dime you to no end. We found this out when my wife booked a art instruction class where they tell you what painting they will do in the itinerary and you show up to paint it as part of the class. It is an extra $35 which she thought was ridiculous since typically on cruises most activities are free unless it involves drinking and this did not. The "instructor" showed up, gave zero instruction and simply told the class to attempt to paint the painting but did not tell anyone how to do it. It was like seeing a professional portrait and simply telling a non artist to paint what they did. They might as well put on Bob Ross and had the class listen to him give instruction. To top off the experience, they were supposed to paint the Northern lights and the instructor had them painting a dark sunset. Needless to say everyone in the class was upset and also needless to say, Norwegian offered zero help or solution to the problem. Our stateroom attendant was very friendly but very slow. We had multiple days where our room was not cleaned because he had not gotten to it in time. It would be 9pm and it was not turned down at all. He would later knock on our door after our kids were almost asleep to ask if we needed anything and when we didn't since we didn't want to wake up our kids, he would simply give us the itinerary for the next day. For what you pay for on a cruise you should expect better service and more professional staff that actually care about customer service. I can deal with any and all issues if the staff is willing to make it right in any way possible. When we went to guest services one time they actually told us they are used to hearing complaints and are used to it which is why they let them off every six months. They would not help at all and I never once had a positive experience when I went to the desk. I returned to work and everyone asked me how my cruise was and I have been completely honest about my experience. Read Less

We had heard good things about Norwegian and wanted to give them a try. We were disappointed. The food was terrible and it was impossible to get into the smaller shows. One night I ordered what was supposed to be a hot appetizer and it came out stone cold. Food had no flavor. At the pub they serve your food in a metal basket sitting on a piece of paper which made it impossible to use a knife. We enjoyed our excursions. The cabin steward was terrible. She did not listen to our requests. The room was a nightmare. It was embarrassing as you could see through the glass. The beds were as hard as a rock. The only real plus was the unlimited beverage package. The casino was tight. I figured I would have earns some perks for the amount of money I spent. Other cruise lines have given me free cruises, wine etc.We will never sail Norwegian again. We prefer Carnival. Read Less

Took family to see the Caribbean. Returned from our seven day cruise on the Norwegian Epic Saturday and it was truly an epic failure. Right from the beginning it was off to a bad start and it never recovered. We were hours late boarding and not one offer of an apology or explanation. The ship could have been so majestic but it really isn’t taken care of. It’s filthy and things are broken and rundown all over the ship. Drink stations were not kept supplied and never kept with ice. However, the bars were running over with ice. The glasses were small juice glasses and I don’t know how people are to stay hydrated with 3 ounces of warm water at a time. The workers throughout the ship continued to display a lack of regard for its passengers. Aside from a handful of employees (wakie, wakie, happy, happy, washie, washie) the ships moral is horrid. They could use a good dose of customer service training. No information is made available as to how to go about doing most anything and the customer service desk doesn’t have a clue as to how to help, nor do they want to. We were berated at the hostess desk the first night at dinner because they didn’t have our dinner reservations that had been made in November. However, we were told that just once we would be offered a favor and be allowed to dine. Favor? WOW! I’m going to do Norwegian a favor and never book another cruise with them again nor will I recommend them to anyone I know. We will continue to sail with Disney as we do every year because they know how to keep a ship, ship shape, clean, not rundown or broken and their customer service is superb. They all greet you with a smile and the novel notion of knowing how to make you feel like a valued customer. I guess you get what you pay for but Norwegian was almost as much as we spend on a Disney cruise. Read Less

Very disappointed in this cruise. Booked a last minute vacation and regret not reading more reviews before choosing this cruise line and specifically this ship. The Epic is small for the amount of people on board. With my father using a walker, it was especially hard to navigate many of the public areas, and even getting in/out of our stateroom was challenging as he couldn't fit the walker through the doorway especially well. Deck 15, home of the pools and buffet, was ridiculously crowded and using the pools/finding a chair/walking leisurely about the deck was just about impossible. We managed to use the pools twice, once first thing in the morning, and already many of the chairs in the adult area had towels on them, and the second time while we were at a port with most people off the ship. The smell at the adult pool was disgusting as it got all of the fumes/smoke from the smokestack. One of the more pleasant areas we found was deck 7's jogging path, it was significantly less crowded although there was a bad odor there as well. The primary reason for the poor review was the terrible service and general setup of the "Freestyle" dining experience. We didn't know that to enjoy "freestyle", it really meant you had to make reservations to eat in the main dining room if you wanted to (hopefully) eat at the time you wanted. Once we figured out that you needed to make reservations, we went ahead and did so, only to find at the Manhattan dining room, men need to wear pants and a collared shirt but ladies could wear whatever they wanted. We were turned away for the reservation we had made as we weren't aware of this and they only hold your reservation for 15 minutes following your scheduled time. We then had to go to Taste and wait for a table there instead. We had one good server (Milton) for two nights of the cruise, every other meal including both breakfast and lunch left a lot to be desired. Coffee that you ordered to have with your dessert was delivered after you had already finished your dessert and were about ready to leave. At Shanghai we arrived at opening, but waited over 50 minutes after being seated for our appetizer and over an hour for our meals. At at least two of the restaurants, our appetizers were served with our main course (Oshehans for sure and possibly Taste). The food itself was hit and miss, with mostly misses. We ordered three pina coladas at the poolside bar and received one that tasted just right and two that tasted terrible. We brought our concerns to Ivan (Restaurant Manager), and he provided us with a round of correctly made pina coladas and made our dinner reservations for the remainder of the cruise, but that hardly made up for the grumpy/slow waitstaff. When we finally had Milton as our server, we requested that he be our server for the remainder of the cruise and were assured that that wouldn't be a problem; however, the very next night, the host/hostess seated us at the wrong table (all the way across the restaurant from Milton's tables). They did get us seated correctly the last night. I expected a higher quality and level of service than we have received on prior Carnival cruises (which were actually great, but they didn't have a cruise for the timeframe we needed at the last minute), but instead we paid more for absolutely terrible service. Extremely disappointed that my money was wasted on this cruise. It wasn't our first cruise and it won't be our last, but it will be our last with Norwegian. Read Less

This ship is terrible. There's hardly any water in the one pool, no room in the other .There arent enough loungers for all passengers because of chair saving at 730am.The top quiet deck is a lawn chair on a deck, so crowded its like you're at the jersey shore AND NO POOL. Not all rooms have coffee makers. The coffee shop is an extra charge even with the unlimited drink package. This ship nickles and dimes you to death. Bingo costs money, shows cost money, tips have to be paid in advance. Drinks in the mini fridge come at an astronomical charge. Wi-Fi,astronomical charge. Bottled water isnt included in the drink package. $5.40 for a basic bottle of water. This is ludicrous especially for a ship that cant even depart on time! Our departure time last night was 7pm, the ship left at 1040, so the slot machines were locked for hours. This was my first cruise and surely my last. You couldn't pay me to do this again. The only thing saving my experience is the food and the islands visited. But even that is a rip off. You have to be back onboard by 1:30 for one of the destinations, not even a full day to explore. Debarkation is a nightmare, no organization. Read Less

We have cruised with Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity. Norwegian did not even come close to comparing. Pros- We had booked a mini suite because we traveled with our 8 month old son, and the room was decent size and had a full size bathtub. The cruise line did provide a pack n play which was nice. Cons- 1. The ship was not set up to accommodate so many people. Other cruises including Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas the amount of people does not seem so overwhelming. And most points during the week people were on top of each other. 2. They did not have enough bars or bar tenders to make a drink within a normal amount of time. Even when the bars weren't busy there was always a wait. Other cruises I've been on the bartenders are excellent and can move at an increased pace when busy. 3. The wait staff at all of the restaurants either weren't properly trained or had no sense of time. Dinner every night took almost 2 hours, and not because we were slow eaters. Some nights we waited almost a half hour between courses or even for our orders to be taken. The choice of restaurants and variety was nice, but that's about it. 4. Food- meh. I always look forward to the seafood on cruises, and even though we tried different restaurants the only seafood that was typically offered was either shrimp or salmon. Other cruises offer various types of fish, lobster, etc. 5. Pools. One of the water slides wasn't working, the splash pads for the kids wasn't working, and the pools appeared to be half filled. 6. Shore excursions- we booked the Dunn River Falls trip in Jamaica and Snorkeling with Sting Rays both through the cruise line. In each case the instructions were not detailed and went an hour over the expected time. Luckily both were in the morning so we didn't worry about catching the boat. For the Dunn River Falls it is required to have either water or climbing shoes. No sandals allowed. This was not mentioned anywhere in the description or when we booked at the desk on the boat. We had to rent shoes at port, and more cash was required than on any other shore excursion I've been on. Both of these excursions the guides seemed more concerned about taking pictures to get you to buy them than actually helping you enjoy yourself. I would recommend the chocolate tasting in Cozumel though, because this was the only one that was organized and our tour guide was awesome. 7. Exciting the ship was one of the biggest clusters I've ever been a part of after 4 different cruises. First we had to go to a specific location because our son only had a birth certificate. We chose to get off between 7:30 AM and 8:30 and carry our own luggage as part of the "freestyle" process. Everyone else had the same idea. There were only 2 exits on deck 7 forward and aft. We waited over an hour in line just to get off the ship, and there were so many people the elevators couldn't close because people had nowhere to go once the doors opened. To make matters worse they had absolutely no Norwegian personnel available to direct people or help anyone with the process. Also even though we had to exit at a specific spot, no one once asked for birth certificate or passports. We spoke with a security guard who worked at the port and he said he always knows when a Norwegian boat is at dock because it's completely unorganized and everyone walks off angry. Not a great way to end the week. Also, to start the week our cruise left 7 hours late. We were supposed to set sail around 4, didn't leave until around 11. They updated us an hour in to say it was a medical issue, but then we never heard anything after that. Take my word for it, there are enough other beautiful ships and cruise lines that can give a much better experience than Norwegian. Read Less

Our cruise was miserable from the moment we got to the port until we left the ship. It took us two hours to board the ship because the cruise before ours was taking too long to exit. Once we got on the ship we were all sent to deck 15 because none of the rooms were ready. Our ship was due to sail at 4pm but we did not leave Port until 11:15 PM. Somewhere between five and 530 there was an announcement letting us know that there was a medical emergency and that’s what the delay was. There was never any other communication about the delay until the following day when the staff apologized for their lack of communication. Our first port was Great Stirrup Cay but the captain informed us of the weather was too bad and so we were going to have to skip that part for our safety. I hardly believe that since we were seven hours and 15 minutes late he had a lot of time to catch up for so that we could stay on schedule. I firmly believe that the eight hours they made up by not stopping there kept him on schedule and that they lied about the weather conditions. That first evening or water was shut off for a while, when it did come back on it came out a muddy brown and had to run for about five minutes before it finally cleared. We had a balcony cabin that was OK but the people next to me were constantly outside smoking pot and nothing was ever done about it. The elevators were a nightmare! If you were lucky enough to get an elevator you were packed in there like a sardine. We had booked a tour for when we got to Orlando and after the tour they were to take us to the airport two days before the tour we got a notice on our door that due to lack of interest to tour was canceled and we were to come to guest services to arrange for transportation to the airport. We got to guest services and they told us sorry all transportation to the airport is booked. Wasn’t that great now we had no transportation. We never ate at any of the specialty restaurants I’m sure the food would’ve been good but I heard a lot of complaints that people couldn’t get reservations because they were already booked. As far as the free dining options go I was not that impressed, it was the same kind of food I could get a Denny’s. When it was time to exit the ship it took us 3 1/2 hours! They wound us around from Florida floor through stairway is trying to get us off! You would think a ship that has been in service since 2010 could figure out how to get passengers off in a timely manner! I would not recommend either Norwegian Cruise lines or the Norwegian epic. We chose this cruise to celebrate folks 50th wedding anniversary! There were 32 in our party! This is NOT a handicap accessible boat! The hallways do not allow for a wheelchair to pass through with changing carts located everywhere. The debarkation and embarkation took the entire day! This boat seems to be understaffed, and the debarkation was if it was it's maiden and final voyage. Lines, everywhere, no staff to be seen. Staff that was visible, were inconsistent in the messages and directions they provided people. They would not allow elevators off on the floor they were instructed to assemble on as that floor was overcrowded with people trying to get off the boat. An employee hit my Mom's legs in the wheelchair with a cart, and we went to the infirmary to get bandages to stop the bleeding. (My Mom also had complete insurance policy). They said, she needed to come back at 6, and that they would have to get permission to sell her bandages for her legs to stop the bleeding. They said it would be a $60.00 co-pay and each bandage was going to be $12 only if they could get permission. Beyond frustrating! Dining: Recommend the specialty dining, but book online ahead of time as those restaurants fill up fast. Our favorite was the Teppanyaki where they cook the meal in front of you. Shows: Not appropriate for kids or teenagers, while they told you the rating ahead of time, you think the cruise line would have had more age appropriate options. Although the individuals within the shows were high quality, the selection of the show was too risque and inappropriate for family cruising. Entertainment: Howl at the Moon-highly recommend and comedians were good- Ship: Impossible to find lounge chair on the deck-and every opportunity for staff to accommodate a request was always "no". No, was their favorite word. This was with restaurant reservations, excursions, and infirmary. The ship did not debark on time. It was six hours late, and we left around 11:00 PM. We felt like we were lied to multiple times concerning rationale for late departure out of Port Canaveral. We were not able to pull into our first port of call. They said the excuse was that the water was too choppy to tender. However, there was all ready a boat at that port of call as we passed it. When attending a show, we were directed to a balcony seat by staff. Yet, balcony had tables and chairs pushed all together, and staff did not offer to help to allow wheelchair access to show. Family members had to move heavy chairs and tables to accommodate wheelchair access in order to see the show. Staff members directed us to sit there, but it was not accessible for wheelchair. Shore Excursions: Group was delayed start time on excursion in Mexico, and did not get to enjoy beach-was only there for hour and half and had paid for full day Read Less

If there was a negative 5 rating I would rate it negative 5. This was my 5th cruise and worse ever will never cruise NCL again EVER. We booked a three person cabin and we were all over each other to move around. The room setup was horrible the beds were so small our legs were hanging off. Not sure who designed the cabins the shower was so tiny you can only fit in if you shrunk yourself. There was no availability to watch any of the shows you needed to make reservations before you book the cruise. The restaurants were all crowded and the waiter only had time to take your orders and bring it back to you no time to check if we need anything else, one night we finished our dinner before getting our drinks. My pool at home is bigger than the one on the EPIC. There was a wait for everything you needed food, elevators, drinks you name it there was a line. We traveled with three kids and they were bored. We left 5 hours late and didn't stop at GSC. Seem that they wanted you to get on the ship so that they can charge you for something else, $20 for a game of Deal or no deal, bingo. The kids had a soda package and they charge for a can soda. $5.5 for a bottle of water. It's a rip-off. DO NOT BOOK NCL you will have the worst time of your life. Read Less

Been with Norwegian for 5 cruises. It was an easy decision to sail with them again. This was our big vacation for the year. I sailed with my two children 16 and 10 also with my sister and nephew. The room was small but ok. Not enough plugs and not enough shelving. But not bad overall. Nice balcony. Entertainment was terrible. Priscilla queen of the desert was horrid. Not good at all. It was not the show content it was the show it self. We tried the Circ show and where our seats where the kids could not see and the service was terrible inside the show. Service on this ship was terrible with very few bright spots. The pool area was overcrowded, drunk spring breakers, not enough chairs and slides were closed down at the drop of the hat. The last day on ship we were supposed to stop at the private beach for Norwegian but the Captain stated that the weather had turned and that the waves were not cooperating. After speaking to several couples that had been turned away the last three cruises they had been on it is apparent that Norwegian has an issue that needs to be addressed. That ruined the entire trip for us as we already had 3 sea days to deal with and then this added another. We also did not leave Port Canaveral until almost 1000 pm due to maintenance that needed to be done. That happened again leaving another port late again. There was a fight at the pool and I was frightened for the safety of my child. It was not good. Read Less

Yes, I would probably rate the cruise a five star if my family and I wanted to be imersed in a frat party environment. Now keep in mind my wife and I have only been on 1 cruise in our lives and it was with Holland America. So the bar was already high. Decided on the Norweigen epic and booked before all the mishaps with the ship. Have two children girl 10 and boy 12. I will never book a cruise again that offers a free drink package as it was an unruly mess. Drunk young men and women everywhere ruining the whole cruise with their obnoxiousness. Beer bongs and thongs right in our face. My kids were totally shocked at the behaviors and I am ashamed for bringing them. The Manhattan rooms waiter was terrible but we enjoyed the Chinese and taste very much. Kids loved being able to get unlimited ice cream cones. Playa de carmen was very sketchy. We didn't know there was a warning for Americans not to be there. You could tell locals were looking to take advantage of you. First excursion, Tulum ruins excursion was bad. You take a ferry to take a bus to go to the ruins. This eats up about 4 hours of the excursion leaving about 1.5 hours at the ruins. Then the guide gives these microphones for you to listen You couldn't understand the excursion director because the mic cuts in and out and then he gives about 20 minutes of free time to explore the ruins on your own. Second Excursion, We did snorkeling at the private island. This was our favorite activity on this trip. We kept busy out in the ocean away from the profanaties, beer bongs and Gstrings. No, I will never even if it were free, go on a NCL again. Read Less

We had been on this cruise ship a few years ago and had not particularly liked it then due to the size of the cabins and the fact that you had to book dinners and shows ahead of time because of the size of the ship. We had gotten a good deal through the casino and thought we would try it again. Well, we picked the wrong time of year to go on it this time. Of course I knew it was spring break, but, did not expect a Norwegian ship to be full of college students drinking like fish and being obnoxious. You had to wait in lines for 30-45 minutes to get a drink, it seems they have less staff onboard the ship now than they did the last time we were on it. It was also due to the fact that these students were getting 6-8 drinks at a time. It seems there should have been some limits in place for drinking, I know Carnival only allows 1 drink at a time. These people were drinking so much that they were throwing up on balconies and in the pool. They have 2 tiny pools and not enough lounge chairs for everyone, on sea days we felt like we were in the middle of some huge college party. It was swarming with people and pool was overfull. We heard that they sold a big block of rooms at a discounted price to college students. We had to deal with a knock down drag out fight next to our cabin during one night that we called security about twice before they finally came up to take care of it an hour after it had started. There was hollering and screaming in the halls til 3am. The rooms are the smallest we have ever had and we have been on 28 cruises. The bathroom is open to the main room with no privacy whatsoever. Tiny shower and sinks. Another problem was getting lounge chairs by the pool in the morning on sea days. If you weren't out there by 7:30 or 8am you could not find a chair. Everyone went out and put towels on the chairs and left them early in the morning. They never did enforce the fact that they don't allow saving chairs. When we went to the comedy club people also saved chairs for like 5 or 6 people so even if hyou went half an hour early you couldn't get a seat. The theater is also very small, only holds 800-900 people for a 5,000 person ship. Way to small for this size of ship. The layout of the ship is very cutup and hard to get around in, it was the only ship I believe that was designed by Europeans and quite strange, I must say the shows we saw Burn the Floor and The Beatles show were very good. We did not think the food in any of the restaurants we went to was good at all this time. We usually liked going to O'Sheehans but, didn't think the food was very hot or good. Buffet was awful, no carved meats that were good and poor selection. The only meal that was half way decent was breakfast in the Taste Restaurant. Embarkation went pretty smoothly burt, getting off the ship there was no communication about when they were ready for you to disembark, we just happened to be down there early enough. Believe me we were ready to get off the ship by then. We were so looking forward to getting away from the cold weather and going on this cruise. Believe me this was a trip I wish I had never taken. Anyone over the age of 25 was complaining about these college students, their behavior, the way they dressed and acted. Read Less

My husband purchased this cruise for a Christmas gift . He passed away prior to the cruise. I had the travel agent call to request a different cruise date , Norwegian refused . I requested for his ticket to be refunded, they stated they would minus the fees . However they would charge me extra for a solo passenger. They allowed me to change the name of the ticket ( without a charge) . My friend and I went on the cruise to find out that it was Spring break . It took over an hour to get a drink , the bartenders would serve the guests that were holding up money. My husband purchased a tip and beverage package . I was also charged for several drinks . Still trying to find out why. At the restaurants servers did not have knowledge of food and drinks . I asked for Anisettta for my espresso. They came back and said they didn’t know what that drink was . . I then asked for sambuca . That was day 1 ! The remainder of the trip Was basically the same .. waiting for drinks, staff not haveing knowledge of activities, not being able to get a lounge chair at the pool, having to pay extra charges for activities and entertainment. My husband and I went on a carnival cruise, last year .. after the first day our stewards knew our names , we didn’t have to pay surcharges for room service , bartenders remembered what we drank , wait staff remembered that I liked coffe after our meal and the rooms were spacious Read Less

Embarkation process was very slow, the Lady helping us check in didnt seem to be very knowledgeable on anything i asked. she wasnt too sure of what floor the food was being serviced and just handed me a map and said "it should be on here you can look for it". the ship itself was very nice. the cabin's layout was not very logical. the bathroom was not a separate room and if you want to get dressed you have leave you clothes on the floor because there is no counter behind the counter to lay your clothes on. all the dining experiance we had was TERRIBLE SERVICE. i have been on numerous cruises (with other company's) and have never had such terrible service as i did with Norwegian.teh servers in all dining areas never made eye contact with you and would vanish before you can even ask them for butter (which was not on our table) or ask them for anything. they would take your order and then leave. they were never present for you in case you needed something. we cruise in a party of 12 and everyone in my party had the same experience! TERRIBLE SERVICE. the bar by the pool was VERY UNDERSTAFFED it took me one time 45mins to get a drink. there were no pool attendants walking around getting drink orders. at the pool there was only two bartenders at the bar i remember their names clearly because i received the worst service from them! Edgar and i believe Noely. i asked like three times for a lemon and the flat out ignored me. they took others drink order before mine and i was there for 45mins! i had my uncle and aunt come up to the bar and they aswell made no eye contact and then said " your key card does not work" yet i had saw him take drink orders and not even scan some key cards from other people. i then had to go all the way down to customer service and come to find out there was nothing wrong with my card at all!!! the crew members on the ship were not knowledgeable with the ship, they did not know where bathrooms where and also seemed to have difficult with the language barrier. i also had a massage service done, the massage it self was ok, but the lady kept making noise by the sink and spent more time "preping" the creams to apply on me then actually massaging me. she seemed new and also not knowledge with the performance of the service she was giving me. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Started off from usually getting a bottle of sparkling wine in the stateroom since I’m a rewards member.. no bottle. When I asked why they said it was too short of cruise for one. Next they had us trapped on the ship the whole time since they claimed at one of two ports the waters were too rough to tender (they were just as calm the day before we were at port) they did nothing for us! They easily could have rerouted us or asked us to wait a few hours before the waters were up to their standards. They got on the intercom and said how they planned a bunch of new activities to make up for it(yeah right) I had a first time cruiser with me as well and you can imagine his first impression! He never wants to cruise again! We felt so trapped with no where to go! The food was ok but if you wanted a drink at dinner forget about it! I had to wait until I almost had my dinner before a drink even showed up! If I wanted another I had to order as soon as the first one arrived. One last thing is our room attendant was very nice but when we would leave and move the thing to “make up cabin” on 2 different occasions we came back to it on “do not disturb” and an unmade cabin and no fresh towels- I had to track someone down for fresh towels. (Probably some kids in the hall) but they should only have these buttons available from inside the stateroom so no one can change it. We are paying a service fee for what? I made my own bed 2nd. Overall I had a horrible experience I’m really not sure if I will cruise Norwegian again.... it was definitely an EPIC FAIL Read Less

Called the front desk because there was dry blood on our sheets, we could never get through, it just rang and then a message said everyone was busy, try again later. Eventually had to take sheet from a cart in the hallway. Getting off the ship was horrifying. We needed to be on the 5th floor to get off the ship. We tried to get off the ship early by carrying our own luggage off. Traffic was so backed up that we we're standing in the back of the ship, on the 7th floor stairwell. And they kept calling more groups to get off the ship. I would think just a couple weeks after crushing 2 moorings and damaging the ship, their service would be on point. That was not the case. Drink package would have been worth it if it didn't take 30 minutes to get a drink. Food was good. But I can get good food anywhere. Please do not take a Norwegian cruise line adventure.... Ever.. We choose this cruise as our family vacation for the year. We enjoy beach type vacations and have enjoyed cruises in the past. We choose the Epic because it looked like it had a lot to offer our whole family. Unfortunately, we could not have been more wrong. The ship was severally under staffed. Everything had massive time consuming lines. For example, the boat offered 3 water slides, but they typically only ran 2 at a time because they didn't have enough staff to run them all at the same time. We only saw the rock wall open twice and both times it had huge lines. The climbing tower and trampoline never opened. The 2 small pools were extremely overcrowded. The sprinkler system that was supposed to offer splash pad type of setting was broken. They only had about 15 tubes out for the tube slide, which resulted in another huge line. I watched a teenager pass out waiting for a tube. The cruise medics took more than 30 minutes to respond. This was the 3rd time that I have been on a Norwegian cruise, and the 3rd time that I was disappointingly informed that the sea was too rough to get on the tender boats. It was a beautiful day with very calm waters considering we were on an ocean. This resulted in an overcrowded boat with a insufficient staff and amenities. The staff did not seem too shocked as a few informed me that during the last 5 months, they only made it to the island 3 times. The cruise directer responded by offering a few additional activities, most of which required additional fees. The boat was also under construction and we were not informed that the massive rock wall would be unavailable for our cruise. The drinks seemed to be watered down. I weigh under 140 pounds and did not catch even the slightest buzz after drinking 20 mixed drinks (Miami Vices, BBCs, Mango Melt Downs). I am a lightweight when it comes to drinks and I did not feel any effects from these beverages. Boat departure took 3 hours, seriously 3 hours. We missed our shuttle to the airport and nearly missed flights. Once again the cruise director managed to find a place to let the blame fall; she went with port authorities this time. Although my friends managed to get off much quicker due to dumb luck and had no trouble with port authorities or customs. By the third day much of the boat smelled of septic. The other attractions such as Escape the Big Top and the Circus De Sol la booked very quickly and were nearly impossible to get into. The comedian on board made fun of guests to obtain pity laughs rather than relying on wit and originality. Much of the food on the buffet was cold and repetitive. They encourage hand washing, yet many of their bathroom sinks and soap dispensers would not work. I am very upset that our family wasted our vacation time and money on this horrible experience.
