As with previous cruises (and future booked ones for now) I'm traveling solo, and this was my second annual Christmas cruise. Going into this cruise I was a little worried, I'd just gotten off the Harmony of the Seas which I loved and wasn't sure how this would compare, especially given that this would be my first back to back with the second week being very family heavy for Christmas. I'd read some reviews leading up that were largely negative about this ship and the service. I'm happy to say that my experience overall was really fantastic. I stayed in the "Studios", the rooms are small but I'm someone that's only in them to sleep, shower, and change so the size didn't bother me. I find them well laid out and more than suitable for my needs, but if you're someone that needs space or natural light, probably not for you. Room steward was a ninja, I swear I'd leave my room in the morning to go grab coffee and by the time I got back to shower it'd have been completely cleaned/remade. The lounge area is small, never got much use outside of the solo meetings, but having decent coffee nearby was a huge bonus. Solo meetings - this is a tale of different weeks meaning different crowds, and different levels of success. Week 1 we had a fantastic solo host (Gabi) and a generally fun group of people. While there was some fragmentation into smaller subgroups in general everyone got along really well and there were plenty of enjoyable group dinners. Week 2 was a different story, the solo host (Tim) was great, but I did not click with most of the group and never attended any meetings after the first. I did run into a few people who were traveling solo that I drank with (or attended shows/dinner), but the get togethers themselves I didn't click with. MDR - Overall good. The only real issue was one night in the Manhattan room we had two tables of 10 and due to some delayed courses/confusion on how to handle it/etc, dinner took almost three hours. It was handled though by the solo host (Gabi) who was joining us and never repeated, in fact for the rest of the week anytime I was in the MDR service was impeccable and near constant checkins by servers and maitre d to make sure everything was taken care of. Food wise, keep your expectations in check, it's not 5 star dining, but the food is good and generally well prepared. I never had problems getting modifications (less meat, more vegetables usually) and overall an enjoyable experience. Specialty dining - Unlike the first week where most of my dinners were in the MDR, one in a specialty, the second week I ate strictly at specialty dining for dinner. I went to Wasab (2), Le Bistro (2), La Cucina (3), and Teppanyaki (1). Fantastic experience across the board. I'd have likely switched out the third La Cucina for something different, but with it being Christmas week reservations were difficult to get. Likely could have walked in and gotten a table anyways, but I also really enjoyed the food there regardless. No complaints about specialty dining and it is a substantial step up from MDR food. Garden Cafe - Not really a breakfast person so only stopped in here for lunch, and mostly because it was the best source of salad on the ship. I'm used to a very vegetable heavy diet and was able to satisfy my cravings for those here. Bars - I'm a simple man, I generally pick 2-3 bars that I'll frequent on a ship and stick with those. My preference comes for ones that aren't too crowded, that I can find a place to read nearby, good service, and good drinks. Most of my week was spent at the Vibe bar, Syd Normans on the Waterfront, Syd Normans, and occasionally Shakers. Unlike some reviews where people complained of a wait to get a drink, I don't think I ever had to wait more than a min or two for one, outside of insanely crowded bars like the one in Headliners during Howl at the Moon. Vibe - One of my goals was to get Vibe passes so I'd have an adult only area that didn't have a smoking section. Goal achieved, and they were able to sell me a pass for the second week during the first week so I didn't have to worry about getting one. For me, Vibe is totally worth it. It's generally quieter, _fantastic_ bar service, everyone up there was incredibly accommodating and helpful, making sure drinks were always full and you had everything you needed. The wind was pretty horrific a few days and the hot tubs could be warmer, but I would not hesitate to get them again. Entertainment - SIX and Burn the Floor I love. I saw each at least 4 times over the two weeks and completely enjoyed them each time. You can disagree with me, personal taste and all, you'd be wrong, but you can still do it. Bands (Queen Flash and Syd Norman house band) were great, I spent a lot of evenings there the second week. Comedy shows, hit and miss, there were a couple I enjoyed but a lot weren't my style / too tame / etc. Overall I never lacked for anything fun to do though. Overall - Loved it. Staff was friendly and seemly went out of their way to make sure you had a great time. (Getting photos with the casts of Six and Burn the Floor was honestly a highlight of my week) Food, entertainment, drinks, cabin, etc, all great. Was it perfect? Of course not, things went wrong but they were always taken care of. I'm on vacation, as long as the ship doesn't capsize, what goes wrong isn't done on purpose/maliciously, and it gets taken care of, I don't much care. Will I cruise Norwegian again? Yup, I completely will. Read Less

Just walked off the Sun after our 5 day Western Caribbean cruise, and after reading so many other reviews, I’d love to know how miserable all the other reviewers are or must be in their daily lives. This cruise, our cabin, the ship, the crew, the excursion we went on, the food, the drinks, everything was outstanding. The main dining room provided amazing food for us on a daily basis, our steward, Arlan, was our Cruise hero! He kept our room perfect, he always made sure to leave us extra towels, and spoke to us daily about our experiences and our lives. We got to know him and he treated us like family. All the restaurant servers and bartenders were knowledgeable and helpful and served us with A+ service. Definitely suggest going to see Jason Graham perform his musical pieces every evening, he is an incredible musician and performer. We did the Chacchoben Mayan Ruin excursion through the cruise, and it was well worth the 99 USD per person, with the guide being top notch, and easy to get on and off the ship in each port. We were able to participate in 2 of the shows, and won multiple raffles, which enriched our experiences. Embarking and Disembarking the ship was very organized and easy, each process taking no more than 20 minutes each. The ship itself, though older and smaller than the newer ships, is easy to navigate though I always found myself thinking I was on the opposite side, though that’s my fault and not theirs. I never saw trash laying around and felt like every staff member, from the cleaning staff all the way up to the senior officers, went out of their way to make your experience positive. If you’re looking to go on a low key nice cruise, avoid the dramatic reviews and cruise on the Sun, you won’t regret it, unless you’re always upset of course. Read Less

We are not at all brand loyal in cruising. Internet search engines and fate decide where and when we cruise. We are very old fashioned though- ballroom dancing, libraries and walk around promenade decks are a huge draw. Low prices are important for me – and I am fine with an ocean view cabin (for the record DW prefers a balcony). The idea is if the price is low enough we can go more often. Days at sea are relaxing. After a few lovely trips on the Jade we were last on Norwegian on the Breakaway out of New York. I was remembering crowds, smoke and the main dining room food budget being a few dollars a day too low. Early December is for some reason a low season in Florida for cruising. I was randomly called to be at a conference Tuesday/Wed in Orlando. A search revealed- the Sun was going out of Port Canaveral Thursday– 5 nights - $179 for Oceanview. That was also the number of vacation days I had left and fit my budget. We were on the Sun many years ago. I had some trouble finding online a recent Freestyle Daily- my DW is OK on cruising but is happier if she can dance and collect her steps aboard. Hint: one lap is 650 or so steps for her. I try and figure out if there is any decent dancing before I book. The Mexican ports were not great- Key West and Nassau are our nearby favorites – but an average port day beats a day at work. The boarding letter said 10:30 and the Uber from Orlando ($67+ tolls+ tip) dropped us off right on time. I had the idea to take an Uber from our hotel to MCO airport then one of the $15 port shuttles but got lazy. There was no one in line but the terminal with loud piped in music and no real amenities (vending machines and flavored water) was dreary, cold and felt like a Soviet bus station. Actually in Europe bus stations can have news-stands and coffee shops but I digress. So we sat outside over by the parking lot. Boarding started at 11:30. Lunch in the Seven Seas was good. I had fish and chips, calamari and salad. The servers were cheerful and we decided this was a happy ship. This was confirmed all week. We are not buffet fans at all. Standing in line behind someone who does not believe in tongs in all it takes. Somebody needs to invent or modify food service equipment for safely filling water bottles and large mugs. Walking around -the ship looked good- the reported common area maintenance issues were not in evidence. Yes the aft awning is a little stained but that is not structural. The atrium and other Deck Six venues (unlike the newer NCL ships) did not smell smoky. They had the Christmas trees up and the holiday music going (a bit too loudly) and the chefs were studying a plywood platform in the lobby for a gingerbread village. Several villages appeared later in the cruise. We took the cheapest “sailaway” OV cabin selection and got 8004. Our $49 pp offer for an upgrade was politely declined. This is way forward next to a forward facing suite. It is quiet and has lots of storage and a large picture window. It is roomy, has a couch but could use a tiny coffee table- which would block the folding of the extra bed from the couch now that I think of it. One drawer and the closet door needed WD40. Pro tip - reports from Housekeeping have to filter up the chain of command. If you call yourself they will arrive in ten minutes and follow up by phone. (This exact issue is actually all over current MBA school case studies on hotel operations). Cabins were ready at 1:30 and luggage arrived 3 ish. Other lines (hint) draft other departments for luggage duty – this was I believe just cabin staff. Our cabin was expertly cleaned and are big fans of our Steward. One morning our sewer line – maybe 10 cabins -was plugged – and a wheeled plumbing snake rig was seen out in the hall. The worst thing for onboard toilets- clothing items- use the trash cans folks. We had eight foot seas leaving Port Canaveral and off Miami so it was bumpy on the way out but the rest of the voyage was smooth and comfortable. I will say an 1100 foot ship tends to ride better in an eight foot sea than a smaller one but there are so many negatives on the larger ones not to mention a higher price. I ran into Igor, the Hotel Director at the Latitudes Party. I congratulated him on having a happy ship- and he said “It’s the software not the hardware”- I had to think a moment but it is the customer service moments and interactions that really make a good cruise. We decided there were two and a half possible dance floors aboard- Bliss, Spinnaker and maybe the Atrium. After dinner the Motown cover band set in Bliss was very good. The talented Show Band did a nice dinner jazz set in the atrium. They had an amazing pair of horn players. We got some Rumbas out of the Latin Duo and we talked the Show Band into playing a ballroom set up in the Spinnaker, which is a lovely space. 45 minute sets were just right. Several kinds of tap beer were in evidence and they had two IPAs. We watched bits of five NFL games (somebody in NCL HQ is listening) and recent movies on the in-room Samsung flat screen TV. NCL must pay attention to Cruise Critic- you could log in to the basic site for free (but not the boards). MDR breakfast, my standard Eggs Benedict, was just right. They brought coffee and hot milk and an extra pot. We all decided they have nailed MDR breakfast. I did start to wonder about “Full English” but you could piece it together from the sides. The cinnamon French toast became a dangerous vice for me. MDR Lunch was good the Fritatta was lovely but the Philly Cheese Steak while tasty was not from Philly. Our servers were cheerful and paying attention. On some lines the servers are nice but it takes half an hour to get coffee. My MDR dinners for the most part - Pad Thai, Bang Bang Chicken, Alfredo (salty) or Oriental Pork- a poor cut of meat -were not successful but we had a lovely Greek Salad and the appetizers were fine. Reports from Specialty Dining were enthusiastic. Officers were all over and asking if we were happy. Seating in the MDR was heavily oriented to couples and it was not crowded. We dropped a note in the comment box but should have sent stuff back which we are not used to doing. More than once it felt like the ship was half full- she was sold out. The newer ships perform an accounting miracle- take the same public spaces, shrink them and add four more decks of cabins. All week there were open seats in the buffet and tables and loungers open. If you hate crowds this is the ship for you. The pool deck band was very loud. The wide promenade deck with loungers was luxurious, quiet and uncommon on modern ships. After a few days DW informed me we got in 10,000 steps on average and I was trying to avoid the desserts. There were real musical shows aboard but we were going to dance. It was a case of so many choices. One of the Latin sets was packed in Bliss (hint take the well done on-board Latin Dance classes) and the Motown band (440) even did a ballroom set the last night. The days at sea at full speed were relaxing and reminded me of a Transatlantic. The library and spaces right outside and inside were quiet for reading and writing and board games. They were selling “lite” $100 versions of the Cruise Next package for shorter cruises, but I could not make any sense of the math. I heard “spend $400 get $250” which baffled me. There was an announcement in the How to Run a Floating Hotel talk they are phasing out plastic beverage bottles soon in favor of glass. They never announce anything in these talks so stay tuned. If you worry about azipods falling apart this is the ship for you. They showed a sturdy propeller shaft in the video of the engine spaces. We all laughed - one of the passengers was very worried the ship would run out of Corona. Truth be told we stayed on the ship in Costa Maya. And we looked out, longingly, at Cozumel and stayed in the loungers on the Promenade Deck. Another advantage of this class of ship for someplace like Alaska- you can access almost every square inch as a steerage (non elite) passenger and free sea views are available in all directions. There was a four-person line to get off the ship at 8AM. CBP has those face recognition carts /machines so there was no separate CPB line. At all. None. This is big folks. We took the NCL shuttle bus/excursion and were in the check in line at the MCO airport by 9:30. Five nights (with two sea days) feels almost like a week in terms of relaxation for me- it is not rushed and great value. Read Less

We arrived at the port at 10:50 and were on the ship by 11:00. We just got our Platinum status so that may have played a part in the quick embarkation, but it didn't look like anyone was waiting overly long. We knew from cruising a mega ship earlier to pre-book entertainment the second you get on the ship so we did that via the numerous touch screens located throughout the ship. She was easy to navigate and we found our way quickly. Our balcony cabin, 11134, was as expected though the balcony was the smallest we've ever had. In contrast, the bathroom was the largest. We were supposed to have a bed by the balcony, but it was by the door. I was initially disappointed, but it turned out we liked it better that way because it made the room look bigger. Our room steward, Dennis, was awesome and did a thorough job. We weren't aware that NCL only makes towel animals upon request. My DH eventually told Dennis that I love towel animals on the last sea day and he made me 2 that day. They made me super happy and were very much appreciated. All of the entertainment was good. Six was phenomenal and rivaled some of the Broadway shows we've saw. The Syd Norman's band and the dueling pianos show were phenomenal. We could have skipped Burn the Floor, but only because it's not up our alley. We did have 2 minor issues (burned out bathroom light and clogged shower drain) and they were corrected quickly once we told customer service. We had an engine issue leaving Jamaica and were delayed several hours. We were kept informed about what was going on and how this would impact our arrival into Grand Cayman the next day. We did get an extended time to make up for it, but that also affected our arrival into Cozumel. After missing our private excursion in Grand Cayman due to the late arrival, I knew to contact our private operator in Cozumel to let them know and they waited for us. We had no issues using the free internet package given to us with our Platinum status; it was quick and easy to use. The casino treated us well. I won a $2500 jackpot on a $0.50 bet and my DH used the same $20 the whole time and we both came out ahead. Can't ask for better! Food was as expected. The buffet was hot and options were plentiful. We loved the specialty dining, especially Moderno and Teppanyaki. Chef Elizabeth was hilarious and the food was AMAZING! They offered Oatmeal Raisin and Chocolate cookies every night at the buffet, which were yummy. My DH mentioned to me that he wished they had chocolate chip and the buffet chef overheard him and quickly procured him some chocolate chip cookies that were underneath the counter. Very appreciated (wish we could have caught her name to formally recognize her)! The morning coffee people were entertaining and a delight. We spent a few breakfasts at the buffet at Jimmy Buffets, way less crowded and the omelet man up there was super friendly and welcoming. We had the beverage package and had no issues getting a drink, whether alcoholic or just a soda. Save your money on the water package and just use any ship tap using reusable bottles. We kept one full bottle in our fridge and carried another with us. We also had a behind the scenes tour with our Platinum status. It's surreal to see everything that happens that you aren't even aware of. Tons of credit to the laundry workers. The gentleman at the end of the sheet dryer who had worked there for 20+ years took great pride in his work and loved to show us everything. Will, our tour guide, answered all of our questions and was great. We used the fitness center everyday and never had to wait for a cardio machine. Several ellipticals were out of order for the whole cruise, but that didn't impact our ability to procure one. Disembarking was quick and easy. We arranged private transportation to MCO and arrived before 8:30 for our 11:00 flight. Overall, we had a great cruise. There was always a line at Guest Services so I'm sure not everyone would agree, but we had no complaints. We'll be back on the Breakaway in May and were looking forward to sailing with her and her great crew again! Read Less

This was my 28th Cruise, but first on NCL and I was surprised with my experience, considering the negative reviews I read before booking and sailing. We invited a recently widowed friend as our 3rd person, so we decided to book a Penthouse Suite. We sailed in room 9202, which also accommodated my special needs father in his scooter. Our butler, Francis and Concierge Armando made this cruise nearly flawless. We were met by both at check-in and immediately knew that they had great personalities and would add to our fun on board. The room was large, beds comfortable and they both heard my request for extra pillows. We had breakfast and lunch in Cagney's, specialty dining in Tempanyaki and Cagney's for dinner and they made sure we were booked in Four Seasons and Seven Seas on other nights. I preferred Seven Seas since it seemed to have more formal attention than the Four Seasons dining room. The food at every meal was amazing! I was nervous after reading poor food reviews, but was never disappointed. We even had wings in the Sports bar and they were fantastic. The chefs in Tempanyaki were entertaining and the steak and chicken were cooked perfectly. We laughed through the entire meal. We had the pleasure of meeting the senior officers and the General Manager Igor even took time to get to know us throughout the cruise. Any issue we had was heard by Igor and he was receptive to our comments. We rarely watch the shows in the evenings on other ships, but were present 4 of the 5 nights on this cruise. The entertainment was excellent and we loved the comedian, Juli Barr. We had some very rude guests during her show, but she handled them with grace and they thankfully left her show without incident. The only "complaints" I have are only comparisons to other cruise lines. For the expense of the drink package on NCL, I feel they could provide a better drink menu for each specific bar, better olives for martinis and more uniform mixology among the staff at each of the bars. We normally develop a rapport with bar staff and this was not an option on this ship, except for one bartender in the pool bar named Mark. I did notice that they had a bar in the dining room, which cut down on the time we had to wait for drinks and wine during dinner and dessert. Costa Maya was a great port and had lots to do without leaving the area. It was easily accessible for a wheelchair or scooter and had plenty of shopping and dining options. We unfortunately had to tender in Cozumel, which meant my father couldn't get off the ship due to the 13 ships in port that day. We did book several spa services, including massages and facials. I regret not learning the name of the blond staff member in the spa, as she called us by name every time she saw us on the ship. The massages were perfect, as was the facial, and the staff made us feel at home. Overall, we truly enjoyed this small ship and were pleased with our first experience on a Norwegian cruise. Read Less

NCL booked all of our flights and transfers. They booked us a non-stop from Boston to Orlando, but our return flight stopped at JFK on the way back. There were dozens of non-stop flights from Orlando to Boston that day at a similar price - not sure why NCL picked the flight thru JFK that got us home hours 2-3 later. We flew into Orlando the day before our cruise and stayed at a Hampton Inn near the airport. The hotel shuttle picked us up and dropped us off at the airport the next morning so we could catch the NCL bus to Port Canaveral. We got to the airport at 10am and were passengers #204 & #205 waiting for the bus. At about 11am we were called to board our bus. Our bus left at 11:20am and we got to the Port Canaveral terminal building shortly after noon. Lots of NCL people were there to direct us and security & registration was fairly quick. On the ship about 12:45. After fixing some dinner reservations at the customer service desk, we headed up to the Garden Cafe to meet-up with other family members that were already on board. We checked out our balcony cabin at about 2 and had the lifeboat drill at about 3pm. Our assembly station was D1 which was somewhere on deck 7. Lifeboat drill was a bit confusing as the crew waited until hundreds of people were wandering around on deck 7 before they brought out the assembly station signs and people knew where to go. Also one crew was walking around talking thru a bullhorn - I couldn't understand a single work he said. Dinner for our group of 10 was in the Manhattan Room at 6pm. Food was good, service was slow (took 30 minutes for our orders to be taken and dessert was served 2 hours after we were seated.) We missed the 7:30 show. Next 2 days were at sea. We attended the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet and got to chat with other cruisers. We enjoyed our balcony cabin. We had most of our meals in the Garden Cafe. We went to Moderno for an Asian food lunch. Dinners were in Savor and Cagneys. We attended the Burn the Floor show but the drums were too loud for my wife (she has ear/hearing issues) and we left the theater after about 15 minutes. Because of my wife's hearing issues we generally don't spend much time on the pool deck or other loud public areas. Next day we pulled into Tortola. Our excursion was to Long Bay beach on Beef Island. Once off the ship, it was easy to identify where to go and who to follow to get to our open-air safari bus. After about a 30 minute ride, we were dropped off at the beach. The excursion was supposed to be 3 hours - subtract two 30 minute rides - leaves us with 2 hours on the beach. But our driver told us that he would return in 1.5 hours to pick us up - this didn't seem right. The beach was lovely - nice sand, blue, warm water and no annoying vendors to pester us. We were charged $25 for an umbrella and 2 beach chairs (for 1.5 hours) - were we scammed? Once in the water, there was a 3ft drop-off that was a bit of a pain to navigate. Back at the port we checked out the stores, bought some souvenirs. Again, the vendors were polite and did not harass us or pressure us into purchasing anything. Getting back on the ship was quick and easy. Next day we pulled into St Thomas. The Breakaway was the third big ship to pull in and our arrival was delayed until the first two ships were secured and checked in. Then the port authorities took extra time to check us in so we got off the ship later than we had planned. Our excursion was to Coral World for SNUBA. It was about a 25 minute open-air safari bus ride there. We got to Coral World later than planned and missed our SNUBA slot and had to wait 2 hours for the next available slot. SNUBA was awesome! But when we were done, we had to run thru the park and just barely made it back to bus (still dripping wet). Since the Breakaway got in late and left early, we didn't have any time to check out the shopping. Next day was at sea. Our NCL package included 250 free minutes of internet, so we visited the Internet Cafe and tried to connect. We were able to connect to email and Facebook messenger, but the connection was really slow - slower that dial-up from 20 yeas ago. That evening we ate at Moderno and saw the musical SIX. My wife was able to tolerate the volume of this production. Next day we visited Great Stirrup Cay. Tendering is always a pain and this was no different. Thankfully my cousin had reserved a Cabana - which was awesome. It may seem expensive, but if several people can chip-in, these Cabanas are really very affordable and well worth the price. We had lunch at the food truck and later I visited the barbecue beach grill and had some ribs. Water was warm and we all were able to just walk in. We did notice some small, clear jelly fish in the water - but they didn't seem to bother anyone. After a full day we tendered back to the ship. Since there was only one place on the ship for the tenders to dock, we had to wait for about a half hour while two tenders ahead of us were unloaded. NCL really should have had more than one place on the ship for tenders to unload. That evening our group of 10 had dinner in the Manhattan room. Unfortunately there was a very loud jazz band playing and my wife could not tolerate the noise. Next day we were back in Port Canaveral. Debarkation went smoothly - except for some troublesome face recognizance systems. NCL bus brought us back to Orlando airport 5 hours before our return flight home. Read Less

We took a eastern Caribbean cruise which went to Tortolla, St Thomas and Great Stirrup Cay. As, always, we choose to stay in The Haven. It is well worth the extra money and takes all the hassles out of cruising. Embarkation is a breeze and once we made it trough security, our check in took less than ten minutes. We were escorted directly to the Haven area. We met our butler and then went to the Haven restaurant for lunch. There is always a great selection of delectable meals or you can pretty much order what you want. They will cater to your individual tastes. The house wine selection is more than adequate and there selection of premium wines is outstanding. One of our favorite places was the Haven bar area. It makes for a great gathering place to meet the other Haven guests. There are no lines to wait in or people trying to push past you. The bartenders are the best of the best and take delight in creating new drinks. Our favorite bartender created an Amaretto, Baileys and pineapple juice drink that was unbelievable. Our room was keep in order by our room steward who would great us by name no matter how far down the hall he was working. When we left our room, he would ensure it was made up by the time we returned. Our butler catered to our specific needs. He paid attention to what portion of afternoon room snacks we would eat or not eat. If we did t eat it, he would not bring that item again. We loved the fresh baked cookies which he kept us well supplied. The concierge made sure we made it on and off the ship with no hassles and always found us the best seats at the shows. He was always there to book our excursions and made sure we made to our meeting point on time with no waiting in lines. Bottom line, if you love to cruise but are tired of waiting in lines and fighting for privacy, then the NCL Haven needs to be in your future plans. It’s not cheap, but to my wife and I, it is well worth the extra money. Once you experience The Haven, it will be hard to look forward to a cruise without it. Read Less

The ship was very clean and I appreciate the crew manning the buffets to spray every single person's hands with sanitizer. People are gross and I'm positive the majority of them had no intention of washing their hands before handling serving utensils that a thousand other people would need to use too. There were even hand washing stations in the buffet areas and I never witnessed anyone, other than myself, using them. Our stateroom was nice and the stateroom steward (if that's the right title) was very friendly. I don't recall his name, but he was great. In fact, everyone on the staff were very, very friendly and would go above and beyond to help wherever needed. The only con for the ship was the lack of an adult only area. We've been on other cruises that have an entire section with a separate buffet and pool deck for adults only. No screeching, whiny kids putting their snot covered hands on everything. Not a fan of kids when there's no space to escape them. Read Less

To begin, embarkation was fantastic. We were met at baggage claim (Orlando) and taken directly to the cruise terminal where we left our bags at the bus. When we walked into the terminal around 11:30 it was full. We checked in, our number to embark was called, and we were onboard within 30 minutes. Everyone was friendly and everything we paid for was accounted for. When we walked on the ship it looked and even smelled very clean. Our room was ready at 1:30. We stayed in a balcony on the 8th floor. It was plenty spacious for the two of us and was very clean and updated. We spent two days on Great Stirrup Cay. Both days we shared the island with another ship. We participated in the stingray and kayak excursions. Both were fantastic. I was a little bummed when I saw the stingrays were in a cage, but once we saw the nurse sharks swimming in and out and held our stingrays, those judgements faded. The guys working there love their jobs and the rays. The kayaks were also fantastic, probably more so. They took us around the island, to a ship wreck, two natural beaches not available to the public, and pointed out a lot of marine life. Excursions aside, this island is absolutely gorgeous. We spent our days at the beach farthest from the tenders. Hardly anyone else made their way down that far. You can also snorkel around the rocks and see thousands of fish! We had the Mahi Mahi sandwiches from the food truck and they were delicious. I will advise - around lunch time there is a long line for a drink, but otherwise, lines were average. Entertainment - the shows were good. The comedian was funny. However, the pianist and guitar God (Jason) that play at Windjammer make up for any shortcomings found anywhere else around the ship. Food - we ate at Seven Seas three nights and found the food to be quite good. Service was friendly and expedient if needed. We also ate at Le Bistro and Moderno, both were good, but nothing beat the steak at Le Bistro. My only qualms were with the ship layout and room steward. The layout was very choppy. Walking around or through restaurants to get somewhere got old but not annoying enough for me to be angry. Our room steward had a few miscommunications with us which were annoying but nothing I can’t chalk up to an English as a second language issue. Also, every single other employee on this boat was extremely friendly and accommodating. For disembarkation we chose the DIY option. We rolled our suitcases off the boat on our own and we were back through customs and back to reality in less than 20 minutes. Read Less

This was my first time ever on a cruise and I couldn’t have asked for a better trip. I’ll start by saying the staff on the sun were absolutely amazing and extremely helpful. Not only did the staff do an amazing job, but they made us feel at home and went beyond their job titles to make everyone feel welcome and special. Our room was amazing and extremely clean everyday. Very thankful for our housekeeper. We ate dinner every night at the Seven Seas and it was absolutely amazing. The menu was amazing and there were endless possibilities for dinner. We celebrated two birthdays on board and they were amazing thanks to everyone who took part in the experience. All of the staff in each lounge were very helpful and made sure we had the best experiences possible. Jamie the cruise director was amazing at her job and coordinated a great trip with so many great things to do on board. Definitely enjoyed everyday out on the islands. Everything was great from getting off the boat to the beech and even back on board . The private island exceeded my expectations with the cleanliness and fun atmosphere. Also very thankful for Irma and her advice on how to shop in Nassau. With her help we were able to find many great gifts to bring back home and enjoy. I took part in the stingray city excursion on November 8th and it was by far the most fun I’ve ever had. Our guide Miguel was super nice and made sure to make our experience far more than just taking photos with the rays. I would highly recommend traveling with Norwegian Cruise Line to anyone looking for a get away. I most definitely will be looking back into traveling with Norwegian again in the future. Thank you so much for the great staff and the unforgettable memories made! Read Less

This was our first cruise and was booked for us as a surprise by very good friends of ours. We had a fantastic time and would love to go again soon. The ship was beautiful and clean and everyone we met were super friendly and helpful. The cabin, was beautiful and clean and surprisingly spacious. The food selection was really good and plentiful. The entertainment was also very good with a good selection for all tastes. There were plenty of quiet areas on the ship too if you wanted to just get away and relax. All the crew from the minute we were checking in to the very last minute when we left were so helpful and kind and friendly, they all made us feel very special and as if we were the only people they were dealing with. The weather was lovely. The private island was perfect the food selection and preparation were really good and at no time was it ever crowded or queing for anything. Read Less

I chose this 4 day cruise to celebrate my birthday. I traveled solo and had a fantastic time. I noticed NCL had reduced the price to $99 without a single supplement plus 1 perk, and I jumped at the offer last minute. NCL then offered me the option to bid on an upgrade. I bid $50 for a balcony and won. I also applied 1 cruise next coupon so sailed away with a great deal on this cruise. This cruised sailed out of Port Canaveral and embarkation took 10 minutes (at noon). Debarkation was even quicker. They examined my passport before I left the ship and I was at the shuttle within 5 minutes. No wait for an elevator, wait at customs... or wait at all. It was the smoothest getting on and off the ship ever! The interior of the ship appears new and is very clean. My stateroom was clean and showed minimal wear. For instance, the cabinets had knicks. There was plenty of storage. The only weird thing was the hairdryer....bring your own. I normally dined in the main formal dining room and had 3 fabulous dinners. So delicious! The last dinner was average. I did not find the buffet area crowded, and in fact appreciated the outside section that had two buffet lines. One could dine on the outside deck, use the sports bar tables (since they are closed until the afternoon), or go into the inside buffet. I had lunch in the dining room or in Modernos. Breakfast was a combo of the formal dining room or the buffet. Breakfast was the same everyday, but was tasty and fresh. I loved the wide selection of fresh fruit every day. The staff went above and beyond to be helpful, friendly and courteous. The musical talent on board was amazing, and I especially loved the pianist/singer named Andre. He is an unbelievably talented man and I never tired of listening to him. I met many other solo travelers, and NCL had a cruise staff host a solo get together every evening. I dined with them. I also was given a cake for my birthday and was chosen to participate in the officer's dinner the 3rd night of the cruise. I really liked the design of the Sun. Even though it is one of the smaller ships and was at capacity for this trip, I never felt crowded and always found little private places and or seats. The bars at the pool had a wait, but I solved that problem by walking to the back bar by the outside buffet or I visited the bar in the Sports restaurant. I don't understand all the bad reviews for the Sun. For the price it was an amazing short vacation and I would sail on her again anytime. Read Less

I read the reviews prior to leaving for this trip (not before booking) and have to admit, I got a little scared. However the negative reviews were way off. This was an outstanding trip. ship was clean and well maintained for an older vessel. Staff was outstanding. I do recommend that getting the premium drink package if you plan on drinking more higher end stuff. The private island was amazing with lots of options of stuff to do. If there was one downfall that I could mention was the shady stuff happening once you got outside security in Nassau, but that isn't Norwegians fault. We had a balcony cabin on the 9th deck and it was outside. Two chairs and a small table was great to have coffee in the morning. The cabin had plenty of room and was great for two people. Bathroom was a little tight, but it is a boat. Meals were also great. We ate at two of the onboard restaurants and they were outstanding. We had breakfast on morning in the main dining room and service and food were great. The buffet was well stocked and hot. If I learned one thing is take reviews for what they are. My experience and expectations may be completely different than someone else. I do believe that the crew does try to help out as much as possible. Read Less

This was our first cruise so we weren’t sure what to expect, but now I can say I will only cruise norwegian for vacations from here forward. Getting on the ship was so easy and took about 10 minutes from checking in to walking aboard. Our stateroom was perfect ( we had an ocean view). It had 2 twin beds and a pull out couch. Being able to chose when and where we ate was so important to us because some days we were busier than others and we got to fit eating times into our schedule. The food was amazing and there were so many options to chose from. Each crew member we encounter was so kind and made sure we were having a great time. Harold (one of the bartenders) even remembered my name and drink order. We were a little worried with a day at sea that we would get cabin fever but they planned activities out so well that the day flew by! The ports were so beautiful and made me never want to leave. I will definitely be cruising with norwegian hopefully soon! Read Less

Fantastic service, food and room was plenty spacious for my husband’s scooter. Fully handicapped accessible. Well laid out. Tons of storage space throughout closet and vanity. Nice living room area away from the bed with comfortable sofa and chair seating with a sturdy table. Room close to elevators. Room steward decorated for my birthday and the front desk provided a voucher for a free cake. Took it to the dining room and they allowed us to take it to the cabin after dinner that night. The shows were well done. Pool service stewards were friendly, attentive and courteous. Many activities options-not bombarded constantly with boring art auctions. Cruise Director Lutz has the perfect personality for her job. She is friendly outside of her “stage” performance and announcements. She was enthusiastic about her job. Thank you! Two afternoon movies were shown and a couple of late night movies between the Bliss lounge and Stardust Theater. Ship was well decorated and maintained. Very clean. Room was cleaned twice a day in the morning and half way through the day. Staff made us feel welcome and treat us great. Getting down at the ports was really easy and we had no trouble with anything. we did two excursions one in costa maya and other in Cozumel both were great. When choosing what you want to do just make sure you read everything and choose the one you want less expensive ones are also super fun. I Only thing I would had change was that I should had got a drinking package to expensive if you try to just get drinks while being there but other then that everything was great. It was a great way to get away from everything in your day to day live and spend time with your significant other. My husband loved it also well. Read Less

We book this cruise last minute. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary. Embarkation was smooth. We had a balcony cabin 0225 which was nice, but the location wasn't the greatest because we were under the pool deck and could hear the party at night and them setting up chairs early in the morning. Our room steward didn't talk much but was helpful and kind. The food was "ok" . We had a meal at Cagney's which was our best meal. We had had breakfast one morning in MDR and enjoyed the experience . The staff in the MDR were awesome!! We stopped in the Keys, Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau. We really enjoyed Great Stirrup Cay. When we stopped in Nassau we booked an excursion for Blue Lagoon. We really enjoyed our day there! Beautiful water and being able to see dolphins up close without having to pay extra. Disembarking was interesting. We did self assist and were some of the first in line. But they had a completely new process with passports. It was a facial recognition and it started messing up soon after a few people went through. Thankfully we were at the front of the line and were able to get off quickly. Not sure how it was going to go for others, cause it was SLOW. All in all a wonderful time! Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was close to my birthday and my daughter and I decided to have a special holiday together. We left our husbands home and had a really terrific time. I would recommend this to any one. Our schedules, her work and my time was taking care of my elderly father did not allow us to have time for each other, so this was truly a very special time. It was a great love and joy bonding cruise. The embarkation and disembarkation were effortless. So much smoother than I ever imagined. Our cabin exceeded our expectations and we thoroughly enjoyed the balcony. We experienced the Teppanyaki Hibachi the first night and it was OUTSTANDING! Our Chef was hilarious and very experienced. We enjoyed the food in all the restaurants and cafe's and the desserts and breads were exquisite. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Manuel our room steward was so on top of things. We have booked our next cruise with Norwegian Sun for Thanksgiving to Mexico. Read Less

Great crew and ship. Anniversary trip to Bahamas. Crew was great. Made sure every need and wish was met perfectly. Food was excellent especially in Moderno. (I gained way too much weight) Always was able to get a lawn chair on the deck. Best cabin steward ever. Definitely will sail on the sun again. Had a little air conditioner condensation on carpet. They promptly dried it and cleaned it with deodorizer to prevent any smells. Then asked if we were satisfied (we definitely were). Owning a business I realize things sometimes happen, but you measure a business by how well they take care of these issues. I was very impressed by Norwegian! Provided wine and chocolate covered strawberries on our anniversary night, with cake at Maderno. Entertainment was great for a smaller ship. You were always able to get served at the bars very quickly. No waiting at any of the restaurants. Perfect cruise! Read Less

The food was exceptional on the buffet, in the dining rooms, and the specialty dining. I only missed going to Grand Bahama Island because of the devistation hurricane Dorian did to that beautiful island. The other ports were great. The shore excursions were entertaining and enjoyable. The crew of the Norwegian Sun was polite and professional at all times. They were most helpful and always had a smile. The ship photographer took amazing photos, and we have great photo souvenirs. We weren't able to visit Freeport, but were given an extra day at sea instead. Although this was enjoyable, a different port or two days at Nassau or Stirrup Cay would have been preferable. The quality of entertainment onboard was somewhat disappointing. Although it was enjoyable, it was too loud. The piano player in the lounge provided great entertainment. The buffet served a wide variety of great food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The quality of food at the complimentary sit down restaurants was very unpredictable. Some meals and dishes were delicious, while others were not. The cabin had enough room for three of us, and we enjoyed the balcony view. Overall, it was an enjoyable week, and I would not hesitate to book another cruise on the Sun or with Norwegian. Thank You!! Read Less

This was our first time cruising, so we researched several cruise lines and cruises destinations. We decided on Norwegian because it suited our style and price the best. We heard so many good things about Norwegian from friends as well! I can say we were not disappointed! We used GoPort from our hotel to the ship terminal. Door to door was easy and worry free trying to find the right terminal and parking. From beginning to end Norwegian staff was attentive and gracious. The excursions we took in Key West and Nassau were great plus getting on and off the ship was stress free. Seven Seas restaurant was our favorite dining place all the way around! We went across the dinning pool area to get to the pool and it got crowded. I enjoyed that many activities were going on, that way we had options to choose. The store were small and not well assorted. The Fun director Luz was not the right person for the job. She was missing that charisma for the position. In the dinning room the staff was not as efficient because you had less staff. You also need more water stations, so people can keep hydrated. They were hard to find. Read Less
