Friends recommended it. They too were disappointed, as we. This was our 7 cruise and the epic was very large but with only two bars one on each end of the pool deck.. not enough staff or waiters. With the drink package we had to wait sometimes 30 minutes or longer just to get a bottled beer. Two bath sized pool for everybody with 4,000 passengers. Of course the adult pool was entirely too small and nothing but drunks passing buckets of beer around. No class what so ever. We cruised the sun a few years back and enjoyed that, but we will never cruise Norwegian period. The other thing was intertainment, which was non exsistant, except for the Beatles! And they put them in the cavern with about 30 seats, just ridiculous. No class on this ship and too many drunks, I can see how someone could get so drunk and fall off the ship?......too many water slides and enough pools or track to jog or walk on. Excursions great sturrup Caye was awesome Jamaica Dunn’s river falls and bobsled where awesome Grand cayman swimming with the dolphins and stingray sandbar awesome Cozumel Jeep and snorkel tour awesome Would recommend all islands and excursions(bucket list for sure) Read Less

We took this cruise to celebrate a bday. The whole experience was disappointing. When we booked we were under the impression of alcohol/drink and specialty dining only to find out we didnt get it, after upgrading to a balcony room. They wouldnt upgrade just the package on ship and had to pay for all drinks. Had to wait at least 15 minutes even to get a drink unless a $5.00 was held out. Dining rooms were overbooked and crowded. Food at the main dining room was the same menu for all three days. The photographer took about 40 pictures and only 3 came out. Just be careful when you book. I will probably never cruise Norweign Cruise Line again. My first cruise with them was great and this one was not impressive at all. Please just read the fine print when booking your cruise, Thanks for reading and let the buyer beware!!! Read Less

We thought we would try NCL, we have cruised before but not on NCL. Our group found a cruise that would fit our timetable and also with the beverage option that suited us. Getting on board was easy and the cabin was clean and ready when promised. I was very disappointed in the beverage wait staff and bartenders. It seemed that once they knew we had the beverage package we seemed to be ignored, I tried for over an hour to get the attention of a waiter, I went to the bar myself and stood in line for 45 minutes and while the progressed people sitting at the bar got served 3 times during this time period. Once I got to the front of the line, I got the bartender attention a couple of times and started to give my order and he served other people. After the third time of being ignored, I gave up. Going to dinner was very eventful also, I did not see that I needed to make dinner reservations at any complimentary restaurant or dress code at a couple until I went back and reread the Freestyle Daily, in small print I found it.. I did find out the people were making reservations back in January for this cruise in March. A little heads up for us first time cruisers sure would have helped. This cruise has put a bad taste, I doubt if we will cruise with NCL again. Read Less

Overall a very mediocre experience on a quick 3-day trip. I can honestly say that with the exception of the BBQ on the private Cay on day 2 every meal was just bad. Just really quite bad. Excessively greasy and under-flavored at every meal. I regularly marveled at how even basic things like eggs and hah browns were terrible - they're pretty easy to get right. Wait times at sit-down service venues was very long and many of the servers spoke very limited or just poor English so orders got screwed up at all of our meals. But it wouldn't have mattered anyway, because the food was seriously just gross. Service was mediocre. Don't recall a single employee smile anywhere in the 3 day journey. Not exaggerating. The app is terrible and the internet package is only good for 250 minutes and can only be used by one cabin occupant at a time. The on-shop app is terrible, too. Early 2000's technology at best. Biggest highlight was the unlimited drink package, but we needed the drinks to distract from everything else. 80s night was fun, others were forgettable. Only my second cruise, first being on Princess, and definitely my last on NCL. #EpicFail Read Less

Previously sailed on NCL Sun and loved it. Service on the Epic is extreme - either very good (in few cases) or really bad (most). Embarkation - the original woman checking us in was super bubbly and nice. However, her computer kept crashing, so we were passed off to another woman who seemed to be confused easily. As previous NCL cruisers, we were surprised that we wouldn't receive priority boarding (a rep we called before hand told us otherwise). When we mentioned this, the rep just said, "Well, they shouldn't have told you that." No apology or anything. Uh...okay. The ship itself is just gorgeous, impressive and clean. Ports of call were great. Loved Stirrup Cay (sting ray excursion was awesome). Food options on Stirrup Cay were delicious. It looks like they're in the process of building a zip line here, which looks fun. I would not do the upgraded dining package again - food is just as good or better in the buffet/dining rooms. We found service to be very slow in upgraded dining. The only one that I would return to again is Teppanyaki - just because the staff was amazing. The only late night dining options are Shenanigans or room service--horrible idea for a ship of this size!! What happened to late-night buffets?? Our kids were hungry after Splash, but Shenanigans said we couldn't take food out with us. When we asked the name of the hostess, she rudely replied, "It's Grace - do you want me to write that down for you??". Room service was never an option because they NEVER ANSWERED THE PHONE. Speaking of never answering, we had a horrible time reaching the operator throughout our cruise. Whenever we had a questions, we tried to call. Of all the times we called, we only had ONE answer. All of the other times, the phone just rang and rang. We only had one bag delivered to us the first day. After 7 pm (and no answer from service or operator), my husband went searching on his own. We were in the aft of the ship; he found 2 of our bags mid-ship and the last 2 were found on the forward. When he struggled to manage the 4 bags to the room on his own, a steward followed him down the hall with no offer to help at all. Because we were previous NCL cruisers, our bags were marked "priority" - which obviously did us no good at all! Casino staff was not overly friendly and didn't seem like they were having fun. (Note to staff: Dealers having fun = players having fun, gambling more and bigger tips!) We didn't have one memorable dealer this time at all. In the past, we've had dealers who happily instruct if you don't know how to play a game. Our friend joined us the first night on Ultimate Hold Em - rather than instruct him, the dealer griped at him the whole time, even though he hadn't played before (our table wasn't even full). Our kids are at a difficult age for Splash Academy (10 and 12). They've typically loved the kids' programs in the past, but I think it was just an age thing this time. The 12 year old was bored and the 10 year old didn't enjoy it much either. It would be nice if the Dolphins had more challenging, age-appropriate activities than those presented on this cruise. The Splash staff seemed pretty nice and fun - certainly better than the Carnival kid staff we've had before. Cirque/Comedy Entertainment on this ship was not appealing to us. We did enjoy Howl at the Moon and the Art Auction. We probably would have enjoyed more entertainment options if dinner had not taken so long each night. Overall, I'd likely seek out a Norwegian cruise again--just because we previously had an excellent trip on the Sun. Perhaps going back to a smaller ship would give us the service that we had come to expect on NCL. Read Less

My traveling partners had never cruised before and wanted to do a short cruise to see if they would liked it . The inclusive drink package was enticing for us. I have cruised 3 times on Carnival and once on Royal Caribbean and had heard good things about Norwegian. I was disappointed in the size of the room and found the bathroom set up not user friendly. The space between the end of the bed and the counter was so narrow that 2 people could not pass by each other. Gin our room steward was amazing. We went to two shows and were very happy with them. I also wasn't pleased with the food. The first night, we ate in the Manhattan Room. The chicken cordon blue was dry and I couldn't taste cheese or ham. The second night in The Taste was better. I was told by one of the staff if I wanted "better food" I needed to go to the restaurant that wasn't complimentary. Service at the Irish pub was extremely slow. The beach was wonderful and we enjoyed the relaxation it provided. Not sure I want to risk another time on Norwegian. Read Less

We chose the 3 day Bahama cruise as an add on to our usual spring training trip. We have cruised before on Holland America and this was a big disappointment compared to our Holland cruise. On line reviews of the Epic highlight many of the Epic's downfalls, I will add only several more. Only 1 electrical outlet in our mini suite room, under the counter where the coffee maker was located. Down on your knees to plug in a phone charger. Most cruise ships have a large viewing area at the front of the ship where you can sit and lounge, drink coffee look out. Not the Epic. The food in the main upper level area was average. Short bed. My wife and I were most disappointed in the entertainment that NCL offered. As a married couple(man and woman) with traditional values, the "Priscilla, the drag queen" and "Dance" productions were both heavily promoting sexual content. We sat for about 5 minutes of the "Priscilla" and left. My wife and I will choose another cruise line in the future and not recommend NCL to our other friends. Read Less

Just a couple of details to offer future Epic Haven cruisers, based on my experiences leaving from Port Canaveral. I read various things about arriving at the Port early to board the ship early. For our cruise, we arrived shortly after 10:00 am, and the Concierge did not arrive until around 11:00 to take the first group of Haven passengers on board. It took five minutes to fill out the health form for each passenger, scan in Passports and get key cards, so the rest of the time was waiting as the lounge got filled up with other Haven guests. First order of business on the ship was a very quick tour of the Haven, then the strong suggestion that we have lunch in the Haven Dining Room. Getting seated was slow due to everyone being in the queue for lunch, and service was a little slow, too. Not to worry, though, the rooms are not ready for PAX yet and bags have yet to arrive, so time to chill. I have attached a FAQ we received on the ship so that you can read it ahead of time. As you might imagine, the Concierges are a little overwhelmed when Haven passengers first get onto the ship. The Concierge will pass out a form in the departure lounge which allows you to request dining reservations and activity and entertainment options, along with times. I recommend completing the form in the lounge and leaving it with them at their desk as you do your tour of the Haven so that they can begin to do the work while you are at lunch. Waiting in line to speak with them upon embarkation does not appear to be a good use of your time or theirs. Upon return to the Port we were escorted off the ship and found the Premium luggage area to be at the far end of the assortment, closest to the Customs line. Had we known that engaging a Porter would get us around the line to clear Customs, we would have gladly paid a tip to the Porter. You may want to consider this option. The long Customs line moves well but is, nevertheless a line with a wait. Read Less

We love the Epic for many reasons--but the biggest reason is because we got married onboard last year. We decided to go this year for our one year anniversary. I do love this ship--great food, great drink package, and lots to do! My biggest complaint is the pool bar service. You have to wait and wait to get a drink. Even at the adult-only pool, there is ONE person walking around taking drink orders and usually they disappear. If I could fix one thing--it would be more bartenders. They are very overworked and you can tell by their service and attitudes. Here are some drink package tips we learned: You can not get 2 drinks at a time on one card, but you can get a double. Specialty coffees are not included unless you get a shot of Bailey's or some sort of alcohol--crazy, right? I do wish water bottles were included. Our balcony stateroom was very comfortable and the layout is very different and unique. Our room steward, R.C. was so nice and accommodating. As far as dining: We ate dinner in the specialty dining rooms each night. La Cucina is nothing to write home about. Moderno and Cagney's on the other hand were OUTSTANDING!! I highly recommend them both. I'm not a buffet person, so we ate breakfast at Taste (very good) and lunch at O'Sheehans (I like the wings!) If a mega ship is not for you, I would not recommend it. If you like a TON of dining options, activities, and new people to meet--I highly recommend it! Read Less

This was the first experience on NCL and it will surely not be the last. From the check in to the disembark customer service was at the forefront. I was never not greeted or asked was I alright or did I need anything. My stateroom was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL (10278) I want this room every time I cruise on Epic. Our steward was there to attend to us whenever needed. The dining options, be it buffet or specialty were top shelf. In my opinion NCL is the cruise line to beat. I have a dietary restriction and it was fully handled by the staff with no hesitation. I did not take part in any of the shows but from my fellow cruisers I heard that they were good. My only complaint was the DJ in Bliss was not playing music to satisfy all that were in attendance. NCL, I thank you for giving me the best birthday cruise ever and I will be back next March to do it all again! Read Less

We have been on all of NCL's big ships plus 3 of their smaller ships and ❤❤❤ NCL! There are many reasons why we are doing our 7th cruise on the EPIC in January 2018... it all started during the Christening in NYC followed by the Inauragal cruise that year, the staff is amazing throughout the ship, awesome balcony staterooms, so many food choices, ports, cruising with new friends, love the Freestyle atmosphere and not having to get dressed up unless we want to and of course celebrating my 60th in January just to mention a few...we have no complaints except would love to see the Blue Man Group back in board.... when there are issues (which do sometimes happen) people have to realize that things happen and stop looking for the negative! I'm sure the positive does outweigh the negative in the end...ENJOY!! Or countdown has begun... can't wait!!! Read Less

First, we’d like to tell you that we are generally positive/go with the flow type of people and tend to see the glass “half full” vs. being negative. So we would prefer writing a letter of praise instead of a letter like this. That said, we feel obligated to give our full opinion. Our hope in sharing this is to make you aware of some very inappropriate happenings and inefficiencies on the ship and suggest you look at other cruise lines. We returned last Wednesday from a Norwegian Epic cruise. Sail dates were 03/10/18-03/14/18. The experience onboard was shocking and as far from a “vacation” as you could imagine. So much so that I was in tears for portions of the trip, and our children asked if we could get off and go somewhere else or come home. That should never happen. We are a family of four (children ages 10 and 16) and chose this cruise based on reviews, photos, amenities and from talking with NCL staff and the consultants at Vacations to Go. We’ve only ever cruised on Disney and Regent previously but thought we would try Norwegian after talking with the consultants and reading reviews on Vacations to Go website. The consultants suggested that NCL is very family friendly and this turned out to be very misleading. From the moment we began the (very long) process of boarding the ship, we could tell there would be a high number of college age students celebrating their spring break. We realize that NCL has zero control over who chooses to cruise, but also feel certain that their staff knows what to expect this time of year. We would definitely suggest explaining to families in advance when they are considering a cruise in March that there will likely be a high number of college-aged people, and that the experience might vary from other times throughout the year. Due to these college students, we experienced vulgarity, incredible inappropriate dress and basically just a feel of being at a trashy fraternity party no matter where we were onboard. The exception to this was the quiet area that we found after finally asking a crew member how to get away from it all. At the peak of our frustration, we called to see what the process was to debark if we chose to do so and not return to the ship. The operator who answered NEVER ONCE asked why we might want to do so. He simply said, “you can debark but you need to decide now and let us know because we sail shortly and there’s a process. You also won’t get any type of refund.” I cannot imagine any staff member that wouldn’t be concerned about why a guest might want to debark and at least ask if everything was okay! Since we couldn’t get our Wifi to work (I’ll share more about that later) we were not able to check flights fast enough to decide if this was a viable option. We stayed aboard and wished we had not. We also purchased some type of ultimate dining and beverage package for ourselves and “unlimited soda” for our children. The lines at the bars were a minimum wait of 10-30 minutes for one drink. And thanks to the inappropriate clothing and comments from the college kids who swarmed all bar areas, we couldn’t even let our kids wait in line for a soft drink. So, the “unlimited packages” were anything but - and were completely wasted on responsible guests. When we asked why the service was so slow and if the ship was understaffed, we were told the service was slowed down by design so “guests wouldn’t overdrink”. Wow! What about the responsible people aboard the ship? We were also appalled that the staff would consider serving girls wearing thong bikinis at the bars INSIDE the ship! We are not uptight but these were not pool bar areas. This was completely inappropriate and disgusting from our perspective and MANY other guests. Guests should be required to wear proper attire – even if it’s a simple cover-up - when standing at a bar inside the ship. The inappropriate attire continued and was ENCOURAGED by a Norwegian employee who was leading a “game” of some sort around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the 13th. The activity took place on the stage area between the (jam packed) bars leading to the pool. It was broadcast on speakers all around so the young children by the slides and play area were also subject to the repulsive language and suggestions. The Norwegian crew member had a group of college aged students crowded around him with men standing on the stage wearing other guest’s bikini tops. We were not there for all of the show but while we were there, he asked what the men what their fantasy stripper name would be and what their favorite (sexual) position was, all while encouraging them to take shots. He also asked girls to come on the stage and provide lap dances. And when we finally thought we couldn’t stand it anymore, he asked which of the girls would like to “pop the cherry” of a college aged young man on stage who was a virgin! We distracted our children who wanted to go down the slides while this was going on and finally just decided to leave the area when our 10 year old asked about lap dances. Had this “activity” taken place after 11:00 p.m. or in a more private setting, we would have never seen it and not have been bothered. But this was the CENTER OF THE POOL area! This man represents the Norwegian brand and should be fired in our opinion. It was absolutely repulsive and so tasteless. One couple next to us commented that this was “worse than a Carnival cruise”. I don’t think that is a compliment in the industry. There were hiccups in the photo area, hour-plus waits for room service, long lines EVERYWHERE and after standing in another VERY long line to purchase a “premium” Wifi package for $120, it barely worked the entire cruise. We could go on and on but feel certain you get the point by now. In an effort to find some positive comments, we would like to share that the food was quite good and the Cirque-style show was very entertaining. Our room attendant, Clockson, was also very attentive and kind. The people in guest services also said they appreciated our concerns about the lines and inappropriate Norwegian employee – apparently they had already heard about it from others. But at least they seemed appreciative. When you spend over $6,200.00 (airfare included) on a vacation that turns out like this, it’s heartbreaking. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND NCL Epic based on this experience! Read Less

I choose this cruise because of it's name and also destination. Well we were 2 adults and 2 children. This was the smallest room ever, no room for anything, we had to walk over the beds to get to the door, oh and by the way the shower and toilet were between the door and the beds. Weird. Also, the only pool for adults was super small and stunk like a dirty bar, and the so called main pool was the same size as the adults only pool (this was spring break, ship packed) and the only full day at sea, the pool had to be emptied because it was dirty. So no one was able to swim. Also, the main reason for my complaint is the alcohol package that we purchased. On day one it took over 40 minutes to get a drink, no matter what you wanted. So, by the time you got off line you needed to get back in line no time to relax. On the second day in the Bhaamas where it was the Norwegian Beach, same thing over 35 minutes to get a drink, no one could enjoy the sun or relax!! This was the worst cruise ever!!!!! Read Less

Pros: Beautiful ship, staff in boarding terminal was friendly and efficient, Bed was comfortable, Shower had good water pressure, Haven deck beautiful view and well laid out, Getting on and off was easy enough, the closet was way bigger than I thought it would be. That’s it, the rest of it ranged from mediocre to terrible. Cons (in order they were experienced): -First thing we did was try to get a drink, it happened eventually and without any courtesy from staff (this would be the tone the rest of the trip). It was at deck 15 bar before embarking. It said they would stop serving alcohol an hour before muster but hey stopped serving almost two hours before that. We got one drink. Many people who surrounded us got zero drinks. -Staff at shops (deck 5 I believe, maybe 7) acting like flea market ppl waving us down and yelling at us to look at their wares. When I didn’t understand immediately that a woman at the jewelry counter wanted me to enter a raffle she belittled me by saying I needed to “stay in the moment” with her. -Every single person above the age of 21 has the drink package. You may not have to pay for your drinks but the wait for each drink (including while dining) was never less than fifteen minutes and that was a quick one. Getting them to serve you took me back fifteen years to my clubbing days where there was a crowd two deep around the bar all wanting the bartenders attention cash out only in this case it was cards. It was the worst part of the trip. My husband gave up trying to drink after day two, wasn’t worth the hassle. It’s obviously a purposeful way to understaff the bars so they aren’t giving as much alcohol away. -It took forever to get our luggage, we had already disembarked. Wanted to enjoy leaving port but unwilling to leave my luggage in unattended in a hallway. -Dined that night at Shanghai (I think it was called). One of only two waiters who actually tried to do a good job at this place. Drinks came from different wait staff, took forever. Apps are all super small portions, I don’t think the calamari was calamari. Our two main dishes didn’t taste bad but our local Chinese please is wayyyyyyy better. They put the silverware directly on their trays and on the tables. Big no no in restaurant world, should have been on napkin. -after that we gambled, casino reeks of smoke everywhere, there is no wait staff that waits on those gambling. We only played a couple games because they were all old and dingy. -Breakfast was nothing to get excited about, again had better free breakfast at hotels. -We didn’t go to private island, too cold and I heard the service there was even worse. We sunned for awhile in haven area and that was the only relaxing parts of the trip. We managed to flag one server down on the haven deck. BTW throwing extra cash tips around meant nothing, they never came back to check on us and we were throwing 5s and 10s around. - After that went to irish bar/restaurant and had the second good service of the trip there. He actually brought us two of our drinks at a time and said we paid for the drink package we might as well get it. I think he’ll probably be fired soon for that, again the whole drink package is a scam, what good is it if you can’t get drinks?! It took forever for the food though. The adjacent bowling alley was never open. Food was obviously all prepared ahead of time and microwaved. The bangers and mash were left over breakfast sausages I saw on the buffet that morning. -We stayed in the room and watched movies that night. The weather was terrible and a pg comedy show is not for us. We watched movie channel and got room service. Wasn’t that bad, Italian sandwich and spaghetti. Sandwich was fine but no condiments, his spaghetti was meaty n okay, and I got a greek salad, other than the lettuce being warm it was fine. Another health no no in the restaurant world is everything that is supposed to be cold is to be kept on ice or changed out every twenty minutes if I remember correctly. That for sure didn’t happen. Asking for bottled water is an act of congress. The TV is angled so badly that if your laying in bed and the movie has a dark scene you cannot see what’s happening at all. There are ice buckets in the room but no vending machine. -housekeeping took our half full lotion bottle and didn’t replace it. Didn’t put a top sheet back on when they made the bed. Just comforter on top. The shampoo provided was terrible, glad I brought my own. -Went back to irish bar for dinner. Wait time was over thirty minutes. We waited, we gave up on drinking. After seating took forever for appetizers and then the food later on to come out. Because we ordered both at the same time I was sure they were going to come at same time. It wasn’t just us, everyone was waiting forever. It’s all premade, I have no earthly idea what takes so long to expedite it. -Nassau is gross and a complete tourist trap. After making our way through the gauntlet of tour guides and hair braiders and perusing all the knick knacks that were made in china, we turned around and went back to the ship. -So I won a token from coin dozer machine to trade in for a free bottle of sparkling wine. I turned it in our last night. After waiting patiently at the bar for my turn he sees the token and just pulls a room temperature sparkling wine and hands it to me. Doesn’t open it, doesn’t offer glasses. I’ve opened many bottles of champagne so I didn’t have any problem with that but I asked for a couple glasses and he ignored me so I just went behind the bar myself and grabbed them and walked away. I was 100% over it at that point. -Got room service last night as well because again we were over it. Ordered a pizza and a salad and they brought mayo and mustard? Where was that for my sandwich earlier in the trip? Basically everything was a little to a lot off. All of the little problems I would have happily ignored if we had only gotten to eat and drink when we wanted. All we wanted was to relax and everything was so trying that we came back from vacation more stressed out. We weren’t the only ones complaining, tons of people were. One couple we talked to a few times had just been on a NCL out of Miami a few months before and said everything was great and night and day different. They weren’t having any fun either. The one thing I’ll say is that it was spring break and every sorority girl and frat boy from florida, Georgia, and alabama were on the ship. Another guest commented that the staff hated spring breakers and that’s why they weren’t giving their all. How that is my fault I don’t know. spring break didn’t just get invented and I didn’t get this trip for free, why should we be punished because they are annoyed? I would not recommend to anyone. The service on this cruise was awful due to lack of experienced staff pitched in to a spring break environment. It was the same on the private island cruise stop in fact it was even worse. The customer service were not interested and seemed to be resigned to this. The food was continuously served up cold and you literally had to fight your way in to the bars to get a drink and then attract the attention of one of the bar staff if you could at all. I would have thought NCL knowing the timing would have compensated by increasing their staff numbers. We hand drinks packages to which they added service charges prior to departure which is a cheek when the service is as poor as this. We also had specialist restaurants package which we could not access because they had been fully booked before we got on the ship again I assume with service charges added to the cruise account. This was most annoying since it was the major reason for booking this cruise. The prices on board were extortio so beware if you sail without the packages. This is the second time we have been on this ship and our first experience was similar. In conclusion not the best cruise we have been on by far. Read Less

This was our first, and last, cruise with NCL after having cruised with Royal Caribbean 8 times. We chose this cruise due to friends of our picking this one due to other circumstances. It was during Spring Break and putting that aside the experience was still poor. The staff just did not seem happy at all. It took 10-20 minutes to get a drink anywhere on the ship. Almost every time I thanked the server they would just turn and walk away. One night the server spilled soup on one the the guest in our party and never apologized. He walked away and got napkins so she could clean herself up. One of our guest, who has a young girl, complained to Guess Services about the NCL staff being vulgar (talking about popping a cherry and such). The Guess Services staff stated "what do you want me to do about it?). It was funny taking the shuttle back to our hotel and listening to a group, that we did not know, discussing their experience. It was a first cruise for two of the girls in the group and the others who had cruised before told them this was nothing like a cruise with Royal Caribbean. They too talked about how unhappy the staff acted. To top it off, these were college age people too. It was nice to see what a different cruise line was like and now it is good to know we have not waisted our money cruising with Royal Caribbean. Read Less

We went on the Norwegian Epic in March 2018, and it really wasn't great, not even sure if I would rate it good. It is one of the bigger ships in the fleet, and it was clean and well-maintained. My biggest issue was the lack of service and staff throughout the entire cruise. We apparently made the mistake of sailing during part of the spring break times, and the service was terrible. The ship was close, if not at capacity, and there did not appear to be adequate staff to deal with the numbers. The line is marketing "Free at Sea" which includes a drink package. The ship/line knows how many people sign up for the package, but don't staff for it. For the entire cruise, it took a minimum of 20 minutes to get an alcoholic beverage no matter where we went. All the bars (pool-side, clubs, and entertainment) always had at least 5-6 people deep waiting for a bartender to wait on them. At each restaurant, it took over 20 minutes to get alcoholic beverages. At Great Stirrup Cay, they let 3,000+ people off the boat and were serviced by two bars (total) and four bartenders. For the entire day, there was a 30 minute line. And there were very few roaming bartenders working the various areas. For the "adult only" pool at the back of the boat, they had one server waiting on over 100 people and taking drink orders. It was pitiful. I have never had such poor service consistently for 4 days. I don't understand why there wasn't sufficient staff for the amount of people. The previous cruises we've gone on had about half of the passenger capacity as the Epic, but I feel like they had more staff available than the Epic. Over and over, the only way to get a server or bartender to wait on you was to literally flash cash. If there was not money in hand during the ordering, they would not even wait on you. You pay for Free at Sea and for the gratuities, and a service charge for each day of the drink package, but can't be waited on without tipping up front. I am happy to tip, but it shouldn't be a prerequisite to getting service. While at O'Sheehans, we had been sitting for some time and unable to get anyone to stop at the table. I held a $20 bill in the air and, no joke, in less than 15 seconds, a waiter appeared at my elbow. It was like watching a B-movie comedy, but it actually happened in real life. And then on to the food. Other than our dinner at Cagney's, I am not sure I ate a single meal that was above room-temperature. The main buffet seemed to leave food out indefinitely hoping for it to move, regardless of how cold it had gotten. We also tried the upgraded dining, and that food was cold too. All of the entertainment activities were always packed to capacity and more. We tried each night to get into Howl at the Moon, and it was standing room only. We tried the British Invasion pub, standing room only. It seemed like everywhere we went there was another line or another long wait for something that should be simple and quick. They crammed more people into the ship, but didn't seem to care if they could be accommodated. And the cabins. How small can they be? We got a balcony because they tend to be a little bigger, but there was only a minimal amount of walking space. The Couch, which was used to hold our suitcases, seems to take up half the room and is never used since the television is lined up with the bed. What is the couch for...to look at the closet? Or the sink? Maybe the toilet and shower that aren't separated from the rest of the suite? I won't be sailing on Norwegian again. They aren't the cheapest, and they definitely are NOT the best. They need to work harder on the service part if they want to cram 4000+ people onto a boat. Read Less

This was our second Norwegian Cruise- the first was on Norwegian Sky which was a terrible experience as well but we blamed the weather for the most part. We have been on almost a dozen of other cruises between Carnival & the most recent on the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas. We thought we would give Norwegian a second chance on the Epic- which looked like an amazing ship! 2 days into the cruise and my husband and I decided it would be our last Norwegian Cruise! Getting on the boat was just like every other cruise- we were on by 12-1pm. There was no entertainment by the pools- not a dj not a band. The Sail away party was a complete bust! There wasn't one!! There was a small space in between the 2 pool bars and the deck to walk through into the buffet area which was always a hassle to get through- especially with 2 children under the age of 10. Moving onto the inside of the boat- which was very nice! Always clean- however the staterooms were the size of a walk-in closet- and that may be exaggerating a touch. You walked into the room and to your left was the shower with a frosted glass door and to your right was the toilet with a frosted glass door as well- the sink which was no bigger than 12" wide was at the end of your bed! Super weird!! You had to take turns walking through the room because two people could not fit through the end of the bed and the cupboard/dresser area at the same time. These were by far the smallest rooms we have ever seen! There was definitely not enough storage for 4 people! Our stateroom was a balcony and we have never stayed in a interior room but I have to believe there are interior rooms bigger than this balcony room! The entertainment on this boat was good- I was very impressed with the amount of different music blends. However there was hardly any entertainment by the poolside! No activities by the pool and very rarely was there a dj or band. The bar service on this boat was AWFUL! If you tried to get a drink by one of the two pool side bars you would wait for atleast a half an hour! There was hardly any waiters throughout the pool deck offering drink service. This was our last Norwegian cruise- never again!! Read Less

This was our first time on NCL and we were not disappointed. Easy on and easy off. Stateroom was roomy for the 2 of us and had enough storage for about everything I own in life! First time with a balcony and now spoiled going forward. Had dining plan and ate at Italian, French, and Steakhouse restaurants which were all excellent....French was the best. Also spent a few extra $ for the Cirque dinner show which is a must do. This is a small intimate venue and all seats offered a great view of the show. A big surprise to us was that this was a spring break cruise....I'm old... what would I know. So along with this we got loads of young kids drinking and all that comes with that. However the ship is so huge we easily managed to find pockets of quiet. The main shows were superb. Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a show about drag queens and if you are not offended you should go see it. Broadway style talent for sure. Burn The Floor is a high energy dance show. Very entertaining. NCL has you make reservations for all the shows. We made reservations online rather than wait until onboard. Saves loads of time and frustrations. All crew members with which we had interactions were pleasant and worked extremely hard to please us. We did have some very minor complaints but they're not even worth mentioning. Overall the Epic is a nice ship and worth every penny Read Less

This review includes Tips and Tricks from the NCL Epic sailing date March 10, 2018. The cruise was during Spring Break and there were a lot of Spring Breakers on the cruise. Three large groups were on the ship, a podcast group (Tom and Dan), a board gamers convention (CruisieCon 8), and a poker players group. Some 550 people were from the Tom and Dan podcast which is a humorous, adult oriented morning type show. This group will be on the same cruise in 2019. In general, the passengers were cool and chill and which made this cruise awesome. The people make the cruise. I heard an estimate that 75% of the adults got the Ultimate Beverage Package (UBP). NCL offered many passengers a freebie and most took the UBP. But keep in mind you still have to pay gratuities/taxes which comes out to ~$71 for a 4 night cruise, when booking through the NCL website. On NCL, 18-20 year olds may drink outside of the port. I enjoyed having the Spring Breakers on board. Now on to some tips and tricks. Many things take reservations including shows, tenders, and some restaurants. The shows can be reserved online before the cruise with the exception of the comedy shows. Many of the things that take reservations you don't really need reservations for. But I would recommend making reservations for the 18+ comedy shows and restaurants for dinner. When first getting on the ship, I would recommend grabbing the Freestyle Daily on Deck 5 that has the daily schedule and head over to the Headliners comedy club to make reservations for the shows. For embarkation, NCL starts letting passengers on the ship at 11:30 a.m. When booking cruise you pick a boarding time with the earliest at 9:30 a.m. Not sure if I see any value to the pre-selected boarding times as embarkation is just a big herd of people lined up to get on the ship at 11:30 a.m. Using the porters to take your bags is a good idea but keep the things you need until late afternoon when bags are delivered to your door. Had to wait until all cabins were cleaned before the passengers could go to their cabins ~2 pm. The Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar is popular so I would recommend getting there 10-20 minutes early. As for smuggling alcohol on board, NCL Epic are really tough about this and it would be very difficult to smuggle alcohol on board. They do not allow water bottles on board. What they catch is returned on the last day of the cruise at 5 p.m. at the Towel Station on Deck 15 as long as it is a sealed container. When I returned from Nassau, the x-rays caught many passengers with alcohol in their bags; beer had to be disposed of but hard alcohol returned on the last of cruise. Passengers who bring bottles of wine at embarkation are charged $15 corkage fee for each 750 mL bottle. NCL has the iConcierge App for smartphones. The app only works while connected to the ship's Wifi but you can use the app with the ship's Wifi for free; no need to purchase the Wifi package. Wifi signal on the ship is spotty, understandably due to all the steel walls. NCL is known for innovation and NCL Epic is the only ship of its design. The ship first sailed in 2010 but is in excellent shape. I did sneak up to the Haven and just peaked into the lounge and the small dining room. These areas are nice and upscale. To sneak up there wait at the elevators on Deck 15 outside the buffet area and jump in an elevator that is already going up. There is a neighborhood for solo travelers with a Solo Lounge which is awesome. This has a bartender from 5-7 pm each night with Vladimir, the best bartender on the ship. In general this area is busy with people socializing and making friends each evening from 5-7 pm but otherwise is slow. The cruise staff, Ruby, helps organize and reserve a table for solo travelers each evening. The lounge also has cookies, breakfast muffins, cereal, orange juice and coffee. A high end coffee machine freshly grounds coffee beans and coffee drinks with frothy milk. I am a coffee drinker but was not really big on this machine; also did not see this machine being used often. As for the shows, the comedy shows are mostly clean / family shows but there were two 18+ shows. The headliners were good. If you like drag shows, you will like Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Burn the Floor was an excellent dance show. The ship no longer has Blue Man Group. Many passengers were ordering mixed drinks, there were long wait times for drinks and the bartenders were slow. Overall, a great cruise and I'm booked again for the same cruise next year. Read Less

Very goo experience and a great cruise, very nice and comfortable cabin also our stateroom steward was so friendly and kind .The food was very good, the shows are amazing; all the staff are very friendly. We used the service of a wheelchair assistance for my mother and everything goes ok very fast and efficient. The only thing i didn't like is that they broke one of the wheels of my luggage on embarkation day and on disembarkation day they also broke one of the handles of my luggage. All the service and guest service was good to me very helpful. For me this was my first cruise and so happy with my trip, Great Stirrup Cay is a beautiful island i enjoy a lot even though the water was cold i have a good time, also the Island of Nassau Bahamas and Atlantis Paradise Island are so beautiful, i really enjoy my trip and i planning to go again. We went on a much needed 3 day cruise, with high hopes of being on a mega ship that we weren't used to,The Ship is really to big for us,The rooms were fine as far as rooms go,We live in a small house so no worries there, our attendant Jerome was so nice first couple days as they remember your names ect,2nd day no clean towels after I asked him in hallway.Last nite no turn down still no clean towels!!! The first Day we had a misunderstanding about buying the beverage package which I thought came with cruise,No worries I paid for it anyway but did not drink enough to warrant buying it,They billed me two times for beverage package as I used the APP for messaging with our friends on boat.they have account review on App as well.they had also charged us for misc drinks,We went to guest services and they were gonna correct it,which they did eventually but no apology!!!!The waiting at bars for drinks was terrible and not friendly bartenders, they would have two people working with a huge bar of people,We ate at Teppanyaki the first night and it was great!!!! The cook at our table was wonderful, funny and food was good.We ate in Taste that comes with package 2nd night and all was wonderful,We at at Manhatten room last night all was good to!!! We ate lunch and two breakfasts in O'Sheehan's was decent!!We had Buffet one day at lunch and the view was beautiful from the dining room,It was at front of boat with glass windows 180 degree views!!All in All not terrible buy no means ,but we will stick to smaller cruise ships as we live in florida and very close to port.Canaveral.The walks to get anywhere on ship were long because ship is so huge, could"nt get outside very easy and only from rear of boat to see Ocean!Did not partake in activities or entertainment other than great band of beetles songs in Cavern club Liverpool..Went into Nassau for little shopping and conch fritters, Read Less
