We chose the Norwegian Encore Panama Canal Cruise as we were looking for a longer cruise. The cruise was 15 days and started in Miami, ending in LA. I really really wanted to love this cruise. We went in with a really positive attitude and decided to ignore all the naysayers from the various reviews and Facebook groups that we had seen. The cruise ended up being rather mediocre.
Food service is ...
This cruise was my bucket list cruise. Leaving Miami cruising through the Panama Canal and ending up in Los Angeles. 15 days with 7 ports, going places I've never been. Embarkation went really well, things were very organized and it was a smooth process. The ship itself was very clean. The crew did an excellent job keeping things clean. The food was great, we did eat at the buffet most of ...
We’re just back from a long 15 days cruise on the Norwegian Encore and thought to share some of our experiences and maybe dispel some myths along the way as there are many of those to be found on this forum.
Before we start, it should go without saying but I better just say it upfront- these comments are solely based on our own experiences and sometimes on conversations with other guests and ...
We've been on several Norwegian cruises before and chose this one primarily for the itinerary and the timing (as it fitted with when my husband and I could easily take a vacation from work.) However we were thrilled with the ship. We had been on much smaller ships before so were a little nervous about going on such a huge ship, fearing it wouldn't be for us. However, one of the best things about ...
I had read many negative reviews about NCL before embarking, and for the most part, the ship and service exceeded my expectations.
However, the food was a major disappointment in the main dining rooms and buffet. We had no memorable meals. There were no prawns, salmon, lobster, or escargot. While the food was nicely presented, the taste was lacking, pretty uninspired. We were served lots of ...
My husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary on the cruise. We both loved the great food and all the interesting ports. There was never a dull moment and the ship was beautiful. The reservation process was very smooth onboard. We also enjoyed the game room with the VR rides. The buffet always had someone reminding use to wash our hands which was great. The staff always had a ...
Cruise number 14 for us. Panama Canal passage on the list of " must do ". The price seemed very reasonable, although with Norweigan the extras add up like one of those $29 airfares that actually costs $229 when you pay for all the necessary extas.
We had put in a "bid" for an upgrade that works like an auction over about a week period. Day before cruise received an email stating that our bid ...
The Jewel was just refurbished in 2018 and is still very new looking. At 2350 capacity she is my size. The seating in the common areas was clean and comfortable. I had a ocean view with 2 persons and it was OK. Beds were new and we had enough space. Entertainment is always a mystery to me. They only play for 45 min and sometimes at really odd times. We ate mostly in the main dinning room and the ...
We arrived early into Panama City airport, and the transport started with an impromptu tour of Panama City and a pit stop for breakfast as we couldn't arrive in Colon before 11. The ride to Colon was purely functional, and we didn't view much that was photo worthy. Embarkation felt like sort of a mess in Colon, and it was a relief to finally get on the ship.
My bucket list included full ...
We chose this cruise because we could do the Panama Canal in 8 days, rather than 10 or 14 days. The Jewel is a nice ship, a little dated, but the service on the ship was far better than expected. Our room was always clean. Cindy and Ronald in the Palace dining room went above and beyond to provide excellent service. The entertainment was outstanding with comedy magic and Stephanie Pope and ...
