Pleasant but lackluster

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Norwegian Star

We had an unexpected two weeks off and asked our travel agent to find a good deal for a cruise. The travel agent found a Norwegian cruise on the Norwegian Star leaving Southampton on October 23, 2023. We had never sailed with Norwegian before and were open to trying it out. We've sailed previously with Carnival, Celebrity, Oceania, Princess and Royal Caribbean. We have not cruised since 2018 so we ...

Norway is gorgeous

Ship operations seemed disorganized and everything was just in time. By the end of the cruise it seemed as everything was a competition between passengers to get to the front of the line or somewhere first. A single tender port when we bought our tickets turned into 5 once we boarded. The nightly queue to get tender tickets for next day was 30 to 60 minutes. Not worth it. We ate a later ...

Where do start, internet, none existent, menu never changed for 12 days, food cold and tasteless, since when do you make chilli with cannelloni beans. Took the ship over 24 hours to cover about 200 miles and I know that’s why it is called cruising but we could have all day in Tromso instead of docking at 7 at night and having to leave at 3 in the morning for the airport, why, because the company ...

Didn’t Love the Ship, Mediocre Food

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Norwegian Star

I have been on many cruises, but had not been on NCL in many years before deciding to give them another try because I liked the itinerary. I wasn’t crazy about the ship, which was very smoky, and the food wasn’t very good. They also confiscate all liquids every time you get back on the ship. I won’t be coming back to NCL anytime soon. Embarkation Our flight arrived in Copenhagen early in ...

GREAT time on the STAR

We choose this cruise based on the itinerary and because the NCL has thermal spa packages available. We had a mid level inside cabin. Our room stewardess was very good. DINING: we enjoyed the dining, with the exception of the coffee. The coffee onboard the ship was horrible... (with the exception of the JAVA bar-- which you paid extra for-- they had delicious coffee there! Again you had yo ...

I chose this cruise because a group was going from my community and I wanted to see Norway, Iceland and the other ports. We signed up for a tour of Copenhagen at the start of the trip. However, our guide did not show up and although the driver was available, he could not narrate adequately. Trip was cut short and cancelled. Embarkation went smoothly. Disembarkation was strange. We were ...

Fjords & North Cape Great, NCL Star Just OK

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Norwegian Star

We did the 14-day Norwegian Fjords & North Cape (we did not do the Baltic Capitals). We have been on over 50 cruises, on most of the major lines. Norway was a Bucket List item and we were pleased with the itinerary and generally pleased with the cruise overall. However there were several specific things that dragged down the rating to just Average. The Star has been well-updated in many ...

We choiced this cruise because of the itinerary. We've always wanted to see the Norwegian Fjords. We got the ultimate drink and dinning packages. The wine choices were very iimited with less than average quality. We felt we were nickeled and dimed to death when the ultimate drink package does not include bottled water; $6+ per liter bottle. The food choices were plentiful, but the quality ...

The Star has good potential still.

Went on this cruise as a last-minute alternative to ordinary overland trip to Norway. Exceptional value for my solo discount that is no longer avail in any future cruises. Emission of the ship was a considerable issue. To be more specific, it was the visible pollutants that apparently were not removed inside the chimney. That smoke ruined the view of Geiranger on an otherwise perfectly clear ...

NCL Star Along the Norway Coast to the Arctic Circle and Midnight Sun

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Norwegian Star

User Avatar

BOTTOM LINE: The is a spectacular itinerary on a well-maintained ship with a wonderful crew and very enjoyable dining. ITINERARY: Two weeks along the coast of Norway, from Copenhagen DK to North Cape NO and return, well above the Arctic Circle for the summer solstice (midnight sun). The scenery on this itinerary is spectacular, much of it in mountainous archipelagos like those of Alaska and ...
