The Great Outdoors. Has a nice size bar and buffet. Best of all, it's own soft-serve ice machine.

Deserves to be called a CRUISE SHIP

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Norwegian Gem

This was a transatantic from rome to new york. i did this cruise last year on ncl epic and didn't much like it, but i've been on the gem and other gem class ships and you were never in doublt you were on a ship, no matter where you were. it looked like a cruise ship, smelt like a cruise ship everyone knew. the giant floating shopping centers don't appeal to me. i don't want to have to board ...

An amazing journey of ancient lands

This was our first trip on Norwegian Gem, but not first on NCL. We booked for the itinerary which originally included Turkey, Israel, Greece, Egypt, Sicily and Italy (Naples and Rome). Sadly, we were unable to visit Israel due to war with Hamas. We were pleased with the substitutions of Crete and Cyprus, having never visited either island before. Ship and crew: We've been on several ...

3 continents 1 cruise

We chose this cruise for its itinerary. The ship was stopping in Egypt, Israel and ending in Istanbul Turkey. We were interested in seeing the Pyramids in Cairo and touring Jerusalem then spending some time in Istanbul at the end of it. Due to some very unfortunate circumstances we were unable to stop in Israel so we had an extra sea day. We covered 3 continents, Africa, Asia & Europe in this ...

Disappointing not up to my expectations

Cruise was recommended by a friend. I usually sail with Royal Caribbean lines. I thought I would try a different one. You really notice the cut backs on this ship. Food wasn’t great service was slow and tables weren’t clean sometimes took other people’s dishes away so we could have their table. Cut back on shows same 3 guys playing piano and singing for the 11 days not much entertainment. ...

Lackluster experience on 11 day Gem Cruise

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Gem

I chose this cruise primarily because of the itinerary stopping in Spain and Portugal. It was our first cruise on Norwegian. We were immediately struck with how crowded the buffet area was and lack of any seating. We never did find seating in the buffet area the entire 11 day trip. We sat in the Italian specialty restaurant or out by the pool. We tried sit down breakfasts several mornings and the ...

It was my first time in Norvegian company. I had already made many cruises with most of other companies (such as costa; royal carebean, celebrity, princes etc). This was the one which I didnot like much. Ship was ok. It was renovated in a good condition. has 4,5 stars. I always get balcony stateroom (since I am a little claustrophobic). This was normal BA cathegory but ıt was the smallest one I ...

Not up to the quality level of previous NCL cruises

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Gem

For a 11 day cruise there was only non NCL production and one NCL crew show. The rest of the nights were fill ins that were not all that great. It was some thing to do but not the quality that you would expect from NCL on a 11 day cruise. The breakfast in the buffet was ok it was food but it had no variety. It took a couple of days for them to get the scrambled eggs scrambled instead being ...

Used BOGO Air, and received flight information approximately 65 days prior to cruise. Flights were from Houston to Montreal, then Montreal to Venice. Had a one day deviation and arrived without any flight issues or delays on the morning of the 13th. Booked hotel and transfers with NCL, and NCL transfer person was easy to find right outside of baggage claim area, although we had to wait about 30 ...

Good itinerary but ship lacking in entertainment

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Gem

We have been on 5 Norwegian cruises before but generally on bigger boats. We found the service was great but entertainment lacking. There was rarely a disc jockey or band at the pool for more than 45 minutes during the day. They had a performance at the theatre every night but not a broadway caliber show. There were not comedians there was a couple of solo singers in bars and not too much ...

Our Least Favorite NCL Cruise

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Gem

User Avatar

This was our 6th cruise on NCL and this was our least favorite ship. Our inside room on deck 10 was one of the smallest we have stayed in. The bathroom was so small my knees hit the wall when sitting on the toilet. The bathroom had very low water pressure and the water drained very slowly in the shower. The ATM machine was not working when we needed it. The entertainment was subpar for NCL. ...
