The Great Outdoors. Has a nice size bar and buffet. Best of all, it's own soft-serve ice machine.

Lackluster experience on 11 day Gem Cruise

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Gem

I chose this cruise primarily because of the itinerary stopping in Spain and Portugal. It was our first cruise on Norwegian. We were immediately struck with how crowded the buffet area was and lack of any seating. We never did find seating in the buffet area the entire 11 day trip. We sat in the Italian specialty restaurant or out by the pool. We tried sit down breakfasts several mornings and the ...

Poor service, no atmosphere.

We picked this cruise because we cruised with Norwegian on the Spirit in 2018. The food was average at best, breakfast was worst, the best meal we had was Tappenyaki which we paid extra for. The smell on the corridors was awful almost like effluent. Some staff were OK but that was only a few, many looked like they didn't want to be there and it was hard for them to crack a smile. The ...

We chose NCL for the 1st time because Princess are not going to Croatian ports in 2023. The food in the main dining rooms was cold, tasteless and we found the service very poor. We had to wait for over an hour to get the NCL buses to and from most ports. There were chaotic scenes when we disembarked with buses trying g to turn whilst taxis were parking and leaving almost running over the ...

Transatlantic/ Mediterranean back to back

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Norwegian Gem

This was our 5th transatlantic and 1st back to back cruise. Things have improved in NYC terminal as far as organization of embarking passengers. We had a "balcony" cabin (somewhat smaller than what we have had in the past) which was fine. The food/bar and housecleaning/general staff went above and beyond and are second to none. Problems we encountered was with guest services and administration. ...

BEWARE and PREPARE: YOU vs. NCL

This was the first cruise that my boyfriend and I have been on. Guess you could say that we didn't really have a benchmark to compare our experience to, but we certainly do now. And the benchmark is set LOW. I wouldn't say that it was completely unpleasant as the ports were beautiful, but the feeling we take away from the the experience was that we're constantly having to'watch our backs'. ...

My husband and I cruised on the NCL Gem from September 6, 2009 to September 13, 2009- Barcelona to Barcelona. I'd like to write about how much we loved the cruise, but what we believe must be corporate policy ruined it for us. All of the crew members were delightful. From the cabin stewards to the wait staff, everyone was friendly and helpful. The food was very tasty. We have no complaint ...

Not Quite A Gem

We just came back from our Mediterranean Cruise. We sailed on September 6th on the Gem. I will separate the review into two sections, the ship experience and the ports. First the ship experience. It is a fairly new ship with a small atrium and chopped up little public areas. We thought we had booked a date after children had gone back to school but in Europe children go back to school the 3rd week ...

My wife and I have cruised 6 times.  One with Princess and all other with Royal Caribbean.  This was a first with Norweigan.  Let me address the ship first since this is the type of vacation that it is more about the destinations than the ship.  I would rate the food average.  The entertainment was below average and the front desk and overall service and FRIENDLINESS below average.  The ship is ...

NOT QUITE THE GEM!

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Gem

My husband and I had never sailed on NCL before, so we were quite excited to try "Freestyle". Simply put, NCL lets you dine wherever, whenever and with whomever you wish. Sounds great, right? For this privilege, you give up quality and quantity of food in the main dining rooms. Our dinner meals were poor to inedible in both Magenta and Grand Pacific main dining rooms. Because of the poor ...

We booked out NCL Gem cruise to the Western Med online. At one time NCL was my favorite cruise line and I did my first 5 cruises with them, since they started the Freestyle cruising I do not care for them any more. In spite of that I booked this cruise because of the good price and the itinerary which included Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Gibraltar. I could not find another line with this ...
