Most of my review compares our Royal Caribbean cruise in June on Oasis of the Seas with this trip. Overall, NCL did not have to deal with any covid restrictions while RC did for our last trip. The Oasis is bigger than the Breakaway. While less grand, the Breakaway was far more manageable for me to find things and get around. Embark was great. Easy. Our App didn’t work in advance but they ...

Breakaway—NYC to New England & Canada

We booked this cruise a year ago onboard the Jade in the Greek Islands—which was an amazing cruise to beautiful islands on a refurbished smaller ship with low occupancy. After I started reading reviews of the Breakaway combined with what seemed like full occupancy, I started to regret our choice. My fears turned out to be baseless. There were 3350 ppl on board, so about 80% occupancy. There ...

We chose this cruise for the itinerary and the price was right! Entertainment on the Breakaway is mostly OUTSTANDING - Six is not to be missed, Burn the Floor was outstanding, Velvet (Dinner Theater with an upcharge) I would give a mixed review - the show was mostly amazing - the meal was not amazing and felt rushed. Overall worth the upcharge but needs a little TLC. We love NCL and have ...

Cheap methods to earn money

First, a Quick summary. Wifi sucks/slow even with $30/day package and you need to buy for the whole voyage can't do just 1-2 days you need or get some little minutes package for hefty price. Other cruise ships packages are more customized and lot cheaper. Main dining room menu was so boring that didn't even bother going there. Buffet food was good, Croissant and some deserts were among the ...

What has happened to NCL?

We haven't cruised since COVID changed the world. We understand the new way of being. Got it. Not the issue. To begin, we had transfers, airport to hotel, hotel to ship, ship to airport. Completely unsatisfied. Upon arrival (JFK) we followed the (limited) instructions on the documents in hand only to find no one there to provide the transport. To shorten a miserable and tedious story, SEVEN ...

What a fun ship and trip. We took our sister and husband on first cruise. Check-in to NYC was a breeze. Leaving the port on-time and seeing Lady Liberty was great. Weather cancelled Rhode island but every other port we arrived and left on-time. Meals were great, desserts even better. Didn't have a drink package, but tipped the Bar21 bartenders early and was never without a drink, water or ...

Unlike many of the participants on Cruise Critic, we don’t go on multiple cruises a year, in fact we have multiple years between cruises. This was our fifth cruise, our first was in 1996. This was our second NCL cruise, our second in a suite with a butler, but our first in the Haven. We chose an October Canada/New England cruise out of Manhattan, in hopes of seeing fall colors, and so that ...

Disappointed

I was disappointed with cruise. The food was mediocre at best. Freestyle dining is misleading. Dining rooms were full except for very early or very late. Don’t know how entertainment was since size of auditorium is small and shows filled up This is first cruise I’ve been on that reservations had to be made for everything including tenders. When complained of limited dining times was told about ...

Not the level of service we expect from NCL

Embarkation was a breeze when we entered the terminal around noon, we got right on the ship, and that’s when things started going downhill. Immediately upon entering the Breakaway you can tell that the ship is in need of refurbishment. We noticed torn up carpet in a main dining room, our bathroom floor had what appeared to be duck tape holding down the trim. There’s many doors and walls with ...

Happy on the Breakaway

We live just north of Manhattan so cruising from the Westside pier is a real perk. We booked this round trip to NE/Canada to see St. John and Halifax as we had been to all the other ports. It didn't quite work out that way as hurricane Fiona forced us to bypass Halifax and substitute Boston. The weather for the most part was very good. A little chilly and Boston had a lot of wind but we were ...
