Because NCL hasn’t told anyone this, Margaritaville is longer existent on this ship, and we booked in February (it was removed before we even booked). We tried to upgrade rooms and had no help from Norwegian or the website although we kept getting emails to upgrade. Our cruise rep, Brandon, was supposed to call us the day before and did not. So we made attempts the day before sailing and the day of departure to contact him with no success. We tried to ask at the terminal but the woman was so rude and rushed us through she wouldn’t let us ask questions. Our stateroom was wrong and not what we booked. We also were supposed to have a cake in the room which we never received. Everyone other than the cruise director, Mandy, and our steward, Michelle, the staff was miserable. Mandy and Michelle always had smiles and great energy and always stopped to ask us how our day was. Aside from 2 servers from a restaurant and the stewards on our deck, nobody even looked at you. They charge you tips and service fees ($15 per passenger per day) in addition to the ones already paid. You get yelled at by guest services for asking questions like I did this morning when I called to get charges removed (the guest services rep yelled at us and hung up). I get better service at Waffle House. O’Sheehans - wow - the service is slow and they ALWAYS forget you, as well as your meals sometimes (happened to use twice out of the 3 times we ate there). Taste and Savor are the same restaurants with different atmospheres but are pretty much the same. We went to the Manhattan room the first night and I ordered the beef dish with curly potatoes - which meant frozen curly fries. All of the complimentary dining rooms were the same menus and food that were on the buffet, the only difference was the sit down restaurants served it to you. I highly recommend all the specialty restaurants, I did have some of the best meals I’ve ever had when dining in them. We waited 4 hours for tender boats in Cozumel. They took away every amenity on board except the pool and casino with no compensation or explanation (if you questioned them you were yelled at). The ship is clean and well maintained, but the one outdoor adult pool is smaller than my bedroom. We purchased week passes to the spa and had amenities in there taken away after day 2 of 7. No apologies, discounts, or refunds. The bartenders at the bars outside are slower than snails. They do not serve whoever is next and you have to fight to get drinks. The cocktail servers leave the bars and go stand in corners away from everyone with their trays pretending like they’re working. Read Less

I have sailed with many other cruise lines and even NCL prior to this multiple times. The experience back then was a great experience. It appears to me that NCL has made some changes not for the good over time. The service was horrible, people unfriendly, no servers on the pool deck, hour waits to get a drink, embarkation was more than painful, etc. This was a complete waste of hard earned money for our honeymoon and I truly wish I would have spent my money elsewhere. I never write reviews and have never in my 42 years written a review about a cruise experience until this moment. The poor review is warranted. I would not recommend this ship to anybody. I will say one exception to the horrible service was the Assistant Cruise Director and an amazing life guard who was quite friendly. As for the server staff, the breakfast crew was a bit more helpful but as the day went on, good luck! Read Less

First off, service across the board is lacking. Our ship cards got deactivated on the second day, due to a few members mistake, which prevented us from using any of the bars until reactivated. Therefore, we had to wait in the guest services like for 1 and a half hours. Cesar Diaz from guest services acted surprised that a card was deactivated and assured us it was our fault, not there’s. Additionally, the majority of the wait staff acted as if they could not be bothered by actually helping us and doing there job, likely because they already have a $15/day tip coming their way. Very few speak good English and it is hard to communicate with the ones who stick around long enough for you to ask them a question or order something else. This was a big issue because my husband has a severe pineapple allergy and we had to make sure certain drinks didn’t include pineapple. With that being said, there were a few that were good and that deserved additional cash tips, which they were given. Also, the ship rocked... a ton and all the time. I have been on several cruises, in much worse weather, and had never felt a boat shake so continuously. But, if you choose to book with NCL, don’t worry, it isn’t likely you will gain any weight on this boat. The food was not good. As stated, I’ve been on several cruises and I always look forward to the food, both in the dining rooms and buffets. Here, everything was mushy, flavorless and unappetizing. We ate bread and potato salad for 7 days straight. The only meal from the dining room that was decent was a sirloin, featured one night only, and even then the sides were not good and tasted similar to hospital food. None of the food was the fancy stuff you normally expect on ships, and it was just plain not good. Go to your local high school or hospital to experience gross cafeteria style food like on the Pearl. Our room steward, HeHe, was nice and attentive, or so we thought. If what you read above doesn’t deter you from NCL, keep reading. BED BUGS. We stayed in room 5609 on the March 1st sailing. About 2-3 nights in my husband noticed he had a rash on his chest. We thought it was no big deal and may be from chlorine or something. We were wrong. On day 4 we saw a couple blood spots on the bed. We thought the room steward would change the sheets. He didn’t. The next day we noticed even more blood marks and thought that while we were out at port the steward would surely attend to the stained sheets. He didn’t. After talking to another guest about our strange findings, it hit us. Bed bugs. We had never had them before and didn’t connect the dots that the rash, which looked like small bites and kept getting worse and spreading to other body parts, and the blood stains were 2 of the most prevalent signs of bed bugs. We alerted guest services and they said the would send an expert and if it was positive, change our linens. Their examination was negative but they changed the blood stained sheets nonetheless. The next day, on clean sheets, more blood stains appeared. We went back up to guest services and asked to speak to someone in charge. We were told there was no one in charge, and we could wait to speak to the pest expert since his decision was final. We waited in our stateroom for the expert. When he arrived he told us he wasn’t an exterminator or entomologist, he just went to school in his home country, not America. He said that while blood stains, like ours, and my husbands rash were signs of bed bugs it was NCLs policy not to do anything unless an actual bug was found. We had a dead one we found, he told us it was a breadcrumb. He also stated that if it was up to him, based on his findings, that we would go through the sanitation process for bed bugs based on the signs found. When we asked to speak to his supervisor he said he didn’t have one and to go to the service desk, the desk that sent us to him. When we became frustrated that no one was in charge or helping, he changed his story and said we must be scratching and causing the small blood dots which were from the foot of the bed to under the pillows. We exited the boat with no help found and carried the bed bugs off. Upon exiting we found bed bugs, alive, in our luggage and we fear they may get into our home. My husband still has a rash and NCL has done nothing. I called NCL and hit almost all the buttons to reach each department, every person said they could not connect me to someone in charge or directed me to an online claim form which will take 15 days to get a response. I submitted a claim, but I fear the bed bugs could continue to infest the Pearl, those on it, and spread to things we come in contact with. Read Less

I found myself very unhappy with the Pearl. My opinions are because I'm a accustomed to the Breakaway, Getaway and even the Sky was better. The Pearl's buffet was the same nightly with the exception of the meat. They served the same dishes from lunch to dinner aswell such as the pasta. On the other ships, they had themed nights and a ton of variety. I also found the entertainment options to be much less. On the others, there were the regular shows at 1930 adult only shows past 2130. They also had much better side shows such as the dueling pianos, or amazing instrument players, they also had dinner shows (extra cost) but still much more options. On the Pearl, they had the boring instrument players who used recordings more than actually playing. Also after the 1930 and 2130 shows, there wasn't much to do other than a club. Very underwhelming!! I just feel awful paying for what I got compared to what I'm used to with NCL. Read Less

I booked Norwegian because I have enjoyed my previous 2 cruises with them. I love the free-style dining and always felt like I had great value for an exceptional overall experience. Not this time. Here is why I would consider another cruise line or at the very least a different ship than Encore. Pool layout - The top deck is broken down into 3 somewhat equal areas. The Haven, The main pool/kid pool and The Aft that has the go-cart track and laser tag. This is a terrible design. The Haven does not need 33% of the boat - We were able to check it out (someone left a door open and it was EMPTY). Everyone else had to fight for EVERY single chair available. Literally there were NO chairs available (in the sun) if you were out after 9am. And some of the chairs left you with no space to even stretch your legs out. TERRIBLE. Other Norwegian cruises have had "stages" the band is off to corner and there is no dancing or stage area. So basically no entertainment. The cruise director NEVER saw him on the pool deck. People go to the pool to be entertained and get sun and go in the pool. OH the pool... one day it was closed (I guess the waves were too much - but how would the guests know -NO staff or director gave us updates) a Full Pool day with a closed pool. I can't comment if the Haven pool was open that day but wouldn't surprise me if it was. OH and another Pool day someone threw up in the pool at 11am. Without any urgency or communication the pool was drained and refilled at 4:30 or so the pool was finally opened. Seriously 5 1/2 hours in the sun/heat and it takes that long to refill what a JOKE and complete disgrace of a service and expectations we paid for. The Fifties Dinner - Specialty dinning for burgers REALLY ? It takes up valuable space on the top deck that could be used for more pool area. Poor design. The jogging track is a joke how short it is because the pool area is so small (because of the Haven and Track) Internet - paying for water when you have the ultimate drink package - the list goes on and on how they charge you at every corner. Kinda like flying on a cheap airline only to find out they charge $$$ for bags and carryon's. The casino TERRIBLE.... they have a dedicated smoking section (closed doors) so it makes the rest of the casino smaller so they can cater to the smokers. I have done decent (as well as can be expected at slots) on other cruises - this one seems like they have turned the knob up on how tight they are. Payouts were awful - bonus games paid virtually nothing. Other cruises (Princess) I felt like Royalty that I was more than $$ ... This past cruise felt anything but that was treated like were just a number and a $. It will be awhile if ever before I choose Norwegian again. Read Less

My husband and I cruise each February so are not new to this vacation type We were new to Norwegian. We were joining other family on this cruise. our other cruises have been with Celebrity and once on Holland America. I ha e never had an experience where staff especially guest services was so rude. The ship is brand new. There is only 1 adult pool so imagine sea days. They put in a go cart track instead of a pool and laser tag all of which cost extra. There is 2 water slides only 1 was open the 7 days the second for 1 day only. Food was the same in the buffet and in their dining rooms. Who is serving corn on the cob in your main dining room? The custom restaurants were nice and food excellent. If you are a smoker this is not the ship for you. My husband is a smoker always smokes outside away from others. The smoking area is a 10x15 glass room no ventilation for hundreds of people. They created a second one after complaints right next to the out door bar but no smokers were ever offered a beverage if you were sitting in this area. The servers ignored you. These guest were treated horrible less than any other paying guest. Guest services response regarding smoking was “ you should have chosen another cruise line” we would have if it was advertised as a non smoking cruise. $ 250.00 fine for not smoking in the smoking area and cameras everywhere. Don’t risk the fine we saw many who did as there was no room in the smoking area. A passenger near our room was using a scooter to get around. It didn’t not fit into her room and she paid for a bigger handicap room. Our rooms were balcony rooms on the 9 th floor. Beverage package does not include bottled water or any canned soda. You need to buy a water package. All soda was fountain no cans. If you didn’t order a water package bottled water starts at $5.00. Entertainment was good but if you do not have a reservation you will not get in. I was surprised at the lack of activities on sea days. On celebrity there are multiple activities each hour not here. Our cabin steward was the nicest employee on the ship. Norwegian is not a cruise line I would recommend. A big waste of money this year Read Less

To start I have sailed with Norwegian 7 previous times on boats like epic getaway and breakaway. I have always loved them and hence bought into The cruise next which is a program that if you give them money to book again they give you some extra money. I would never sail on the encore again. I will start out saying the room and employees were good and that was not my issue We booked everything with Norwegian including flight and transport to from the ship to airport. That is were the problems began. When we arrived in ft Lauderdale it was complete mess. People had been waiting since 8 am for a shuttle. We arrived at 11. Every other cruise line was very organized and had shuttle times and great communication. Norwegian had none of this. They kept telling us things like the shuttle wasn’t coming or they only had room for half of our family. At 200pm with the boat leaving at 4 and still no info on a shuttle coming we had to spend 300 dollars to cab the 11 of us to the ship. When we arrived at boat it took 6 tries for them to get me checked in and kept trying to give me keys with other people’s name on them. There were 30 to 50 people in line behind me. I ended up being the last one checked in. Because of that we had a really hard time booking things that you could only book on the boat as they were all sold out. Including passes to the go kart track. Which was main reason to go on this boat. The ship was very nice and clean. The boat had 2 water slides both fun but the ocean loop was barely ever open. The last day we left the beach just so we could do it one last time as the day before it was closed only to find out again it was closed for maintenance yet no one was working on it. Do not bring kids on this boat unless you have lots of money to spend. The laser tag and go karts cost 2 dollars a minute and are really only fun at night. The arcade and new vr games average a dollar a minute. There was no mini golf even thou they advertised that there is. There is no rock climbing wall or ropes coarse so there is very very little for kids to do. There is absolutely no night life on this ship at all. All the clubs and bars closed at midnight except a very small disco. Ever other ship has had piano bars and live music or something going on past midnight. You have a choose of 4 restaurants and a buffet. They only thing is that the 3 restaurant unlike other ships all have the same menu. The buffet was good but same things day after day. The local which is the new osheehan on other boats was good. It is open late but you also can’t get drinks after 12. The haven which is Norwegian’s high end rooms is 10 times the size of other ships and has its own buffet and restaurants. This leaves less room on ship for the things that others have. If you can afford haven I am sure you would enjoy this cruise. We took 11 people on this cruise not one of us wouldn’t rate this as the worst cruise we have ever been on. We have all done at least 12 cruises with Norwegian carnival royal Caribbean and Disney. It’s very sad this trip was not as advertised. It was very expensive This trip has completely turned me off of Norwegian cruise which is hard to believe that after the first 6 I thought and paid into cruise next because we were going to cruise Norwegian exclusively once a year as a group for ever. This trip actually broke my heart and love affair with Norwegian. I think the new ceo is looking to nickel and dime you instead of giving you a vacation you pay for. Final note the choir of men was fantastic Read Less

This was our first time with NCL purely because of the price of the cruise--It was $1200 cheaper than sailing on Celebrity Edge, and approximately the same for Oasis of the Seas with very similar itinearies. There is a reason it is cheaper!!--Its because of the quality! This ship comes across as all modern luxury etc etc but the reality could not be further from the truth. There is no quality involved with this ship--it is pack them in, take their money and get them off. We did not feel like we had had a holiday--there is no relaxing involved here!! There a constant announcements trying to get you to part with your money, constant calls, everywhere you go its sell sell sell--of course other ships do this but not to the level seen here. Buffet food is simply pathetic--everybody who cruises likes a nice buffet with a wide variety of choice--non existent here. If you like Pizza/Burgers etc you will be fine--the choice is extremely limited and you will be disappointed here. Breakfast in particular is a complete farce. With our "cheap" package we were offered 3 "speciality" dining evenings which we pre booked. NCL's version of speciality dining is very different from other cruise lines. Food Republic--extremely poor food and service and horrible IPad devices where you see a picture of what your food should look like. Cagneys Steak House--in fairness much better than the above but still failed to cook a fillet to a Medium Rare temp. Los Lobos--a completely bizarre and pathetic attempt at new world mexican cuisine--again dreadful and cheap and tacky. Now to the deck space--a lot has been written and said regarding this. In my opinion it is completely shocking, misplanned and somewhat classism. Approx 90% of guests are expected to fit into approx 15% of the top deck space. The simple maths would point to issues and there are many. Its like a sea of disgruntled humanity all looking for the next availble bed to become free, then a mass scramble and the odd argument when it does. I go for an early morning run each day (7-8am) and most sun loungers/chairs are already covered in towels as some kind of reservation system. Then there is another sundeck that sits approx 250 guests where you pay $99 per day for the priviledge of having a sunbed--there is no pool in this area. This area is walled off by a very unsightly white metal gate--Classism?! Unfortunately we were unable to use the gokarts as we could not get a reservation at all--again a sheer lack of planning and quality of care for guests. We saw a few shows which were for a cruise ship were good but nothing to write home about. It is easy to come on to a review platform and simply criticise for the sake of it--thankfully I am not one of these people. For me to write a 1 star review, the guest experience, the quality of holiday and the overall package has to be beyond a joke and completly dismal. That is what we found on NCL Encore. Read Less

My family and I were on the 5-day Caribbean cruise to Key West, Nassau, Great Stirrup Cay and Grand Bahamas travelling on the Norwegian Sky. We returned on January 29 of this year. I just wanted to share some of our overall impressions of this cruise. The day we boarded in Miami, the registration process was straightforward and because we arrived early, it didn’t take too long. We found out later though, that the room card for my youngest child was not linked to my credit card, which caused us much grief later when I had to stand in a long line at customer service several times to find someone who gave us the correct information about how to do that. After we boarded, we joined the crowd at the buffet for lunch, our first introduction to the ship. We met the fellow making individual ice cream cones to order. It was a got day (we left from Miami) and he was sweating quite a bit, but he was using his gloved hand and the paper hat he was wearing to wipe the sweat from the top of his head. He continued to scoop up the ice cream without washing his hands– no thanks, we were not in the mood for ice cream after that! I was really surprised that a ship that took the time to have staff spray passengers’ hands with hand sanitizer as soon as we entered the dining room would allow staff to ignore proper hygiene like that. In general, the food on the cruise was “meh” at best. The breakfast buffet had the same selection every day. There were 2 separate lines for the indoor dining buffet to grab food, and many times each line ran out of food whether it was the bacon, waffles or some other item. Unbelievably the pancakes actually made noise when they were banged on a plate, yes, they were that overdone. We tried all of the complimentary restaurants on the boat, but we never did get a decent (and by decent I mean flavourful) meal. That was really disappointing because one of the benefits of a cruise is to try different types of food. I have been on other cruise lines (Royal Caribbean and Carnival) and both offered many, many more activities on their ships than we had on the Norwegian Sky. There was one trivia game in the morning, one in the afternoon and that was it for daytime activities with no activies on the pool deck itself. No dance contest, no “hairy chest” contest or any of the funny activities offered by others. They did have a live band for 30 minutes in the afternoon but that was it. Because the Sky was an older ship, a free beverage package was offered. A word of warning for people purchasing this package on the day of the cruise, the basic beverage package does not include a 20% tip for every drink. There is a beverage plus package that can be purchased at the time of boarding, but that is $128 US per person and that also does not include the 20% tip surcharge. We purchased a beverage plus package well in advance of the cruise and I called Norwegian a few times before the cruise left to make sure we would not have any additional charges (we read the warnings on CruiseCritic). We were assured that there wouldn’t be any other charges when we ordered alcoholic drinks. Well, imagine our surprise when we found out a few days into the cruise that there was a “tax” applied while in the US (while we were in Miami and Key West). We also found out – a few drinks into another cruise day – that this “tax” also applied in Great Stirrup Cay as well! The amounts were not huge, but I hate it when I ask a specific question and I am lied to, so be warned! I will also mention that we did not have good luck with our cabin steward. One of our staterooms had no toilet paper for 2 days. If we brought food back to our cabin, there were days when the dirty cutlery and napkins were left behind. In fact, in one of our rooms they were still there the day we checked out. All in all this was the first cruise we were happy to go home, while we had fun as a family, our fun had nothing to do with the cruise. We spend a lot of money for a 2 out of 5 experience. I definitely will not be cruising with NCL again. Read Less

Shows cancelled after waiting for the show to start. Over 2 hrs to get off ship. Activities not available that were listed. Reservations at Cagneys steak house we were 10 minutes late and refused to serve us. Elevators were so slow could not get on an elevator most of the time. Saw elderly having to use the stairs when they shouldn’t have been due to health. The cabin was very nice but any service for it was slow and unfriendly. Overall seemed understaffed. Things were dirty and not cleaned for the next day around the decks. Everyone was so unfriendly and gave no service it was truly a self serve cruise not what we paid for. Never got any service even in the casino would have to go to the bar for a drink and wait in line for sometimes 30 minutes. Many guest made their complaints on the ship but it made no difference. I was told by a crew member that’s what you get on a 3 day cruise this is unacceptable! Read Less

Instead of listing a long list of likes and dislikes I'm going to describe this cruise using, what I think (I have taken several NCL cruises in the past), was the idea behind this new design . The theme of this new boat is:"let's try to extract as much money from passengers as we can". This comes in two varieties: - Exploit parents through their kids (Laser Tag, Go-Karts and VR games' room) - Exploit non-parents by charging them a premium to enjoy adult only facilities (Spice H20 free of charge? = GONE) Even the workers were complaining (this is the first time ever that bartenders and stewards have talked badly about their working conditions during casual conversations). If you are the kind of person whose experience is impacted by the ship itself, I would recommend you choose the Bliss or even the Getaway/Breakaway over this one. You would have a way better time. What is the point of publicizing the new "water slide" if half of the people get stuck on it (what a great design), do you realize how claustrophobic that may feel? This really felt like a bad week, and for a cruise, that's really bad. More specific comments: Dinning Experience - On par with previous NCL cruises. Specialty restaurants I tried: Onda, Los Lobos, Cagney's. In general, the service was good, with Cageny's again being my favorite (Los Lobos was pretty good too). Activities - The cruise director seemed to be a little bit unenthusiastic (compared to other ones I had in the past). The activities in the atrium weren't as frequent as in other NCL cruises I've been tome (a lot of down time). In general, there was a lot of downtime during the day which became an issue with an overcrowded pool area. Entertainment - They had the typical set of activities at nigh. Since the spice H2O area doesn't exist in this boat, the parties were usually held at the comedy club which was little, dark and with a small bar that would make the task of getting a drink almost impossible at peak hours. Staff - The staff were courteous and accommodating. Working really hard. After discussing chatting with them in more detail, a few of them expressed a high level of stress and a "bad vibe" from management. Most of them mentioned their desire to get assigned to a different boat. Would I cruise on this boat again? Don't think so. It feel like a downgrade from previous NCL cruises I had. Read Less

I was in 4219, the ocean view stateroom was fairly nice, minus the stained orange rather then grey carpet and broken chips on the sink area of what looked like someone tried carving into it with a sharp object, likely a knife. The person who tidied my room Kept it such except I didn’t like how he always left the toilet seat up and open. On a ship that moves and rocks I felt that was unhygienic. He also, when cleaning moved my stuff around and I am type one personality and very clean and minimalist and don’t leave things messy or out. He through out my water bottle at one point and a tiny pill bottle with, pills I had in it which, was super annoying. The food in buffet and poolside area was always hamburgers and hotdogs and a trio of pasta salads never changing the entire 5 days. Breakfast in the garden cafe was chaos and would run out of everything immediately, no coffee, no milk for coffee or cereal, no eggs, no fruit, no bacon, etc. Ate at the two restaurants requiring reservations that were complimentary and the food was very good in both. I ate at these two restaurants rotating daily as, the buffet got old fast being hamburgers, hot dogs and occasionally pizza. The service in the restaurants that you have to reserve that were complimentary started out with great service but by mid cruise took a steep decline. When walking the cruise ship, I’d often get smells of raw sewage and noticed many doors were bloated as though there had been a flood or water issue, also noticed staining from water on carpets in the halls. The odour was terrible and got progressively worse throughout the 5 day cruise. The people in the shops were lovely, the kindest on the ships. The entertainment crew were hot or miss as was the entertainment. The comedian was great, didn’t care for the magician, the stage acts of rock and roll and things of that sort seemed amateur at best but, killed a night as, what else would there be to do. The casino reeked of cigarette and what was the worst is, you have to walk through it to get anywhere on the ship so, that sucked. The entire ship was actually laid out that you have to walk through bars, casinos and shops to always get to your destination which, is a great way to have them have people with no will power to spend money but, people who don’t have that issue and don’t like cigarette, it’s an issue. All the stops on the way were beautiful. I did an excursion every cruise and loved every one. When walking back to the cruise in the Bahamas, the port area stunk like urine and was very rough, to say the least. Don’t care to go back. On Great Stirrup Caye I was really looking forward to doing the wave runner and it was canceled due to high winds which, was disappointing but, they promptly put the credit back on my account. The cruise ship had water issues all throughout the cruise. It was actually turned off 2x with no prior warning and no information as to how long or when it would be turned back on. This was annoying to everyone so it seemed and the staff were equally annoyed as, every interaction I seen with guests asking about the water they were responded too rudely. The last night coming back from Stirrup Caye greasy and salty from a day at the beach and not having water, wasn’t fun. The cruise I took with NCL Sky was a 5 day to the Bahamas from Miami and, it was offered at great prices but, with that being said, it brought cheap and trashy people aboard. There were people over drinking everywhere, vomiting in garbages and falling. The Newlywed show got cxld mid show as a couple were too drunk and arguing with the audience and the girl got up and fell because she was waaaaaay to drink which, should have been noted on the entertainment staff before picking them and a disappointment as, I look forward to that show. Also, during mr. sexy legs there was 20 young frat like guys and, when describing pool side what their ideal women was, with kids around, made me cringe, extremely unclassy and dreadful. At one point there was a girl so drunk she was trying to go back to her room and just, couldn’t. I seen her struggling and, she was every attractive and seen two guys offer to assist her. Their intentions were sinister and I could tell immediately so, I pointed at them and my eyes and told them if that girl gets assaulted or makes a complaint of any kind, I remember what you both look like and the two bolted. Where was security and why was this girl along, with many of the above not cut off with alcohol? Would I recommend this cruise again, no. I wanted to see more of the Bahama and glad I did but, I didn’t like the layout of the Sky and the type of guests they had on this cruise. The raw stench of sewage was terrible and the buffet was lack lustre. Read Less

I have been on many cruises but this was my first NCL, selected strictly for its availability date/time, and place. Our stateroom was adequate with more than expected storage for all of our belongings. Plenty of hangers, but they “clanked” constantly while sleeping so I had to put a towel on the unused ones to prevent this clatter. The bed was large and comfortable. Electric outlets and USB ports were well placed. The bathroom was adequate except for legroom in the W/C-toilet. I am only 5’5 and the legroom was terrible…ouch. Good storage for all toiletries though. Also, nice hand soap, body wash, and shampoo. Our cabin attendant was very courteous and attentive to all needs. The staff on NCL Pearl is the WORST I have encountered for friendliness and courtesy, except for those providing hand washing “washie-washie” services, and our server Rowena at the Summer Palace. Summer Palace has EXACTLY the same menu as Indigo but servers at Indigo were zombies with no greeting or courtesy. Food was plentiful, when it was available at Garden Buffet. All the food choices are lacking in flavor/seasoning, though many had rich sauces and plenty of cheese, if that’s your thing. Otherwise, salad and fruit are plentiful. O’Sheehan’s is good for burgers ONLY and offered curt service with NO courtesy. Nachos there are laughable – NOT-chos. Avoid the Lotus Garden as the server’s costumes are more appealing than the fare. We also missed main dining room traditions of server crew celebration on the last night. “Freestyle” is a misnomer on this ship as there were times when there was only one choice of limited food – Great Outdoors Café and O’Sheehan’s. If “Freestyle” means you can eat at any time in the main dining rooms, that’s available on most ships on large lines now. The shows were not exceptional but “Legends” was quite entertaining and the comedian was fine. Several of the afternoon participatory entertainments in the Spinnaker Lounge seemed like “throw-away” events, and the staff who hosted them seemed less than enthusiastic to participate. Again, crew needs to be very much more inviting. The Cruise Director was one of the few who was always upbeat and courtesous. The fitness center could use some upgrading. One of two bikes were out of service and several machines were missing signs describing their usage. Funny smell there too – the first I’ve encountered in a cruise ship gym. Staff was pleasant at the fitness center and towels and cold face cloths were well available. As for drinks, this is hands down the worst place I’ve ever been to get a drink. Waiters were almost non-existent and when we saw a rare yellow shirted attendant on deck they were far away and never wandered outside of their small area. I was astounded that people waited in a long line for drinks at the Sky High Bar and Topsiders. I waited once for 20 minutes to get a drink at Sky High…ONCE. And then NCL has the nerve to add an automatic gratuity! I said NCL stands for Never-ending Customer Lines. The entertainment lounges were no better, with noticeably lacking wait staff who were completely unfriendly with no greetings or courtesy. The centrally located Atrium bar service was equally uninviting with unsmiling bartenders quick to dismiss. I am lucky to have passed on the drink package, which I usually get, as NCL deems it necessary for all people in a cabin to have the same package – preposterous. Can you say “upsell ripoff!” I’d have been furious with a drink package when it was SO hard to get a drink. Hats off to the navigation crew for diverting from the NCL private island due to high winds and rough seas. We were joined in the elevator on our last night by our gracious Italian Captain and told him we were grateful for the diversion, and he seemed pleased with the feedback and was quite gracious. Overall, this ship has too many passengers occupying too small a space with WAY too few service staff. What staff is there ought to be trained in courtesy and the art of a simple smile. I encountered several badged crew personnel in the long empty stateroom corridors who not only didn’t smile as we passed, but didn’t say hello, and didn’t reply after I said hello! I can’t speak for all NCL ships, but this is my feedback on NCL Pearl as of January, 2020. Hopefully NCL will address some simple courtesy and service availability concerns, sooner than later. Unlikely to be back to NCLsoon, until we get treated like a Celebrity or Royal. Read Less

Everything about this cruise line stinks! Customer service is not in their vocabulary. The staff was rude, condescending and acted like they were doing me a favor even acknowledging me as a customer. The port in Nassau (where we were diverted to due to bad weather) was disgusting and I felt unsafe. I chose to get excursion credits during booking but EVERY one of my excursions were canceled by Norwegian...but they didn't tell us that until AFTER we did the whole disembarking process. No offers to do anything else - simply, "You're out of luck". 4 night cruise and never got to set foot on a beach!! The spa...don't even get me started! They did not honor their daily special and WAY overcharged me. Then to top it off, they also charged me 25% gratuity that I did not agree to. $267 for a massage - you've GOT to be kidding me! I spoke with 3 different employees about the situation and each one gave me the "it's not my problem" excuse. I had to stop payment at my bank - that's how bad it was! The final straw that broke this camel's back was the communication afterwards. I submitted my complaints to Norwegian and got the same crap customer service. Basically telling me that they cannot and will not help me and that I am just out all of this money. I will NEVER, EVER cruise with Norwegian again. I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy! My boyfriend and I were looking for a cruise last summer. We compared several and used his previous experiences with cruise lines and chose Norwegian, even though it was more expensive. I felt a little put off prior to even sailing by the whole bidding on a Haven room. I thought that was a little shady. Cruise line staff at the airport was rude and the staff on board ship was overworked and not enough. Several of the crew members told us they were short staffed. The food was cold and two restaurants had the same menu, limiting variety. The entertainment was mediocre at best. The aerial team was great on the ropes, but the interpretive dance was poor. The crew variety show was like attending a high school production. Not to say they weren't good, but I was expecting actual shows. The night clubs also offered the same music in the two dance areas and some of the bands that played were fair. They constantly were pushing for more money whether that be to entertain you on the current cruise or to keep pestering you to sign up for the next one. Guest services couldn't resolve an issue or get in touch with you. It was so over crowded, you couldn't get near the pools or sundecks. The brochures didn't seem like it was the same ship. I will say, we did enjoy the ports of Belize and Costa Maya, Mexico. They were beautiful. We had a balcony room and it was very clean and updated. We will cruise again, but NEVER with Norwegian. I hope this helps you when making your vacation choices. Read Less

A trip on Norwegian Encore will make you feel even sadder than the movie A Walk to Remember. At least when Jamie died, Landon still had his fond memories. Instead, I'm left with nothing but frustration and disappointment. Everything about the ship was wrong. Everything. The staff was beyond rude and actually confrontational when called out for not giving us even terrible service. I wish I had terrible service, because It would have been an upgrade. The only menu that changed was the dinner menu. And even then It was the same menu as the restaurants unless you wanted to pay extra for variety. The drink package was pointless because I was still charged for my drinks every single day. I guess the one positive is that instead of eating the same exact breakfast every single morning, I got to waste my time disputing bogus charges with the rude and unhelpful Guest Services staff. I've seen bigger pools at a condo complex. And do even get me started on the hot tubs. The most inconvenient and pointless hot tubs I've ever seen. I have a bigger cigar room in my basement. Where's the logic in that? I can't even smoke cigars where I can smoke cigarettes. Where's the logic in that?! On a ship that big, I always felt like I was crowded. I have no idea why you decided to stop at San Juan. Thankfully we got there 2 hours earlier, but still, who wants to be outside in San Juan at night. Makes no sense. Nothing makes sense. I hated everything about my miserable 1 week on that cruise except the time I spent with my family which I could've done at home. If you love wasting your time and money, I highly recommend NCL. Otherwise, stay as far away as humanly possible. Read Less

This was by far my worst cruise experience. Let’s start from the room: the room size was fine, but the old dirty underwear found in my drawer really put me off. When I complained I was told they would “just clean the room again”. This ruined my entire trip as I felt dirty the whole time. Next, let’s talk about service. As a haven guest, the service there is how your service should always be. They were the only good servers on the entire ship. The rest of the service is embarrassing. They were all rude, condescending, and acting as if I should be waiting on them. It took forever to get anything and when you would ask something, you would usually be ignored. Next, the pool area was way too small. How is there only one small pool for over 4500 people? You could barely even get in the pool, which I guess was okay since the water was ice cold the entire trip. If you had a drink near the water, a security guard would come blow a loud whistle in your face. Also, the pool waiters, with the exceptions of Charles and Mario were just disrespectful if you even asked for a drink or for water. I can’t comment on the servers at the buffet cause they would just ignore me and walk away. The speciality restaurants were perfect for being nickel and dimed. How dare they charge $2 for a “premium side”? I spent over $5,000 on your ship, and theyre gonna up charge me $2?? They should be embarrassed. Continuing with the theme of being nickel and dimed, the ‘drink port tax’. Just so all who don’t cruise just Norwegian know, it’s the only ship in America that charges this. The rest of the cruise lines cover it with the expensive drink package. I don’t want random 0.17 cent charges on my room. Now, the bars on the ship was probably the worst. Everything was closed by midnight, but the bartenders would refuse to serve after 11:30. I would have to go all the way to the small and busy casino bar to have a drink. Once I would get that drink, I’d have to wander to even find a spot to sit that was not in the smoke filled casino. Yes, there’s a smoking room, but there was no ventilation and I still smelled like smoke even though I didn’t go in there. What kind of vacation sends people to bed by 11:30 cause there’s nothing to do? The slides were rarely open so I never had a chance to go on them, the laser tag, go karting, virtual reality, and escape rooms were all booked prior to leaving the port as well. The speciality restaurants were mediocre at best and the service was terrible. At Cagneys we received our sides exactly 14 minutes after our dinners. At ocean blue, all the food came at different times. Teppanaki was the only restaurant that impressed me. Lastly, I paid for the spa, but every time I would go, it was full and I couldn’t find a spot to sit so I would just leave. I didn’t even bother asking for a refund cause guest services would berate people and make them feel terrible for legitimate complaints. Basically, this was the worst ship I have ever been on. The team was rude and disrespectful. The food was marginal at best. Everything was either sold out or closed. Thanks Norwegian for taking a week that was supposed to be fun with family and ruining it. I know to never cruise Norwegian as even carnival has better service. This was an embarrassment of an experience. Do not waste your money on the Encore. Read Less

We booked a family trip to go on the NCL Encore over NYE in April, we all could not wait to go. This wasn't my first cruise, but it was my first time on a Norwegian ship. I heard great things about the cruise line and with the ship being new, what could go wrong? After about 2 days on the ship, I realized that we made a huge mistake. To me, Cruises are all about service. From the moment We got on the ship to the moment we got off of it, I did not feel welcome. Staff was rude and would roll their eyes at you if you asked for anything. At one of the stops, my wife needed wheelchair assistance getting on/off the boat. When we got off the boat, I asked how we can get a wheelchair when we come back. The lady said that we can tell the port security guard and he can call the ship to send someone out. We did just that, but it took over an hour to send someone out. The port security guard said he talked to someone on the ship and they would send someone out once it stopped raining. We had to sit in the rain for an hour because an employee of the ship couldn't step outside for 5 minutes to help us. The security guard was even shocked at the poor service to the point where he offered to get the wheel chair for us. When someone from the ship finally came with the wheelchair, he told me to push my wife back to the boat because it started to rain again and he didn't want to get wet. Another example of their poor service was at the brewhouse bar. The bar was supposed to close at midnight, I walked in a few minutes before closing to grab a few drinks. The bartender told me that they were closed and the customer in front of me was going to be his last customer. I explained that I didn't want to go all the way to the casino bar or the night club (Only bars open after midnight) to grab a drink. I just wanted two bottles of a beer they only have at the brewhouse. He told me No. I had to beg him until the manager heard and came over. I finally got my drink, but the attitude of the bartender made me not want to go back. We also had poor service at the restaurants. Our food would come out 15 minutes before our side dishes, No one would take our drink orders, and most of the staff just looked miserable and you could tell they didn't want to be there. The other issue I had with the ship was the one small pool. At sea days, it was a madhouse on the pool deck. They didn't have enough chairs in the sun and it was hard to even walk because it was so crowded. I think NCL has a lot of work ahead of them to make this new ship a success, starting with the service. after this trip, I would not go on NCL again. I will stick with Celebrity or Royal Caribbean. We're platinum members of NCL. Our overall experience with NCL was good until now. NCL Encore is a terribly designed ship. Activities: The pool and pool decks are inadequately small for the number of passengers this ship is fitting. 7AM is too late to find a space on a pool deck. Dining: We've bought the dining package but couldn't use it, no restaurants were available. The food in a buffet was worse than average. Internet package we had we couldn't use. Connection quality was really bad and minutes just disappeared because I couldn't logout since the browser stated "no internet". It should be advertised as a non-smoking ship but they do want smokers money. They've built 1 small terrarium on an open deck with very poor ventilation. It's not illegal to smoke, so why smokers are treated as dangerous snakes? One morning neighbors suspected we're smoking on a balcony, so staff member lady stormed in a room to check. She found nothing but the question is what right anyone has to storm in a room without permission, with the sign 'do not disturb'? Are they Gestapo or KGB? I was in my underwear! Read Less

Watch out for the drink package, be sure to ask when getting a drink if what you want is extra charge or not. They don't let you know then it's on your bill. Starbucks on board and good service. Other cruises, by comparison, broadcast these games in their theatres , with hundreds in attendance. These idiots didn’t even realize what they’d done. 6. Horrible and poorly planned excursions. Have been cruising for years and this is the first time I left the ship feeling truly disappointed. I usually like to linger onboard and disembark after the crowds, but I went ashore at the first opportunity. I was surprised by the ambivalence of many of the crew, though polite, they just seemed to be going through the motions. Especially considering this is a new ship, I was expecting to have the Norwegian “A” team onboard. It was a holiday cruise, so I anticipated having to book early for premium dinners and activities. However, I was unable to book all of the prepaid premium restaurants I wanted to dine in as everything was booked before we even left port. I also was unable to get a spot on the go carts, which wasn’t the end of the world, but I would have liked to try it. The highlight of the cruise for me was the Choir of Man Show, which was superb. I didn’t enjoy Kinky Boots as much, the lead singer’s voice and performance was just not compelling. I have enjoyed Norwegian Ships in the past and have sailed with them many times. I am surprised how disappointed I feel after a week on a cruise, I will definitely not sail on the Encore again. I usually buy Cruise Next while onboard but didn’t this time. If you are a smoker, do not get on the Encore. You will feel like a second class citizen and there are no outdoor venues which allow smoking. Their other ships had smoking corners outdoors, but not Encore. There is a very small enclosed smoking room with poor air circulation on Deck 8. The stool seating is uncomfortable, and the space was perpetually crowded. The seating in the Atlanta Airport smoking lounges is more comfortable. The acoustics are horrible, and it just amplified the constant complaining by the other passengers in the small space. The only other options are an enclosed space in the casino if you are gambling. As well as a Cigar lounge with great club chairs, but you are only allowed to smoke cigars in there. The spa thermal suite is nice and only marred by rude passengers talking loudly, ruining the tranquility of the space. The food was ok, nothing memorable, and the beverages were decent. The new Onda restaurant food was good, but the space is all hard surfaces and the noise level was just ridiculous with a full dining room. You could barely hear the server trying to take your order. They did apologize for the noise level and seemed to know this was a problem. I have been loyal to Norwegian for years, but will likely try a different Cruise Line now. Read Less

The dining was average. Food was the same menu between several restaurants (there's only one kitchen on a cruise ship). A lot of places were only available as an upcharge. Cabin was average except there are no power outlets near the bed so if you use a CPAP, leave it at home. They also had the TV locked down so I couldn't use HDMI input for my own entertainment. Movies were, again, an upcharge and were dated/limited. TV was, I think, 2 channels besides the "Bridge Camera" and crap like that. Entertainment was weird. One show was sponsored by Jack Daniels and some other brand of alcohol so they kept stopping the show and serving drinks. Not like you order a drink but they brought everyone a Moscow Mule then 10 minutes later they stopped and brought everyone a whatever...weird. The show was decent but the drink thing was weird. Another show was a bunch of guys who were also serving the audience beers. I got one and shared with my fiance and the next day our poop was green and furry (like the Grinch)....weird. The service was hit and miss. Our stateroom steward and one of the bartenders were amazing but other staff on the ship acted like they didn't like us. Many were just plain rude. See my comments about the other bartenders below. Ports were limited as this was only a 7 day cruise. I HIGHLY recommend the 10 day cruise since you get to see a lot more places. The only excursion that wasn't completely sold out was Megan's Bay. We took the ferry over to St. John and walked the town. That was a lot less crowded. If I'm ever in St. Thomas again, I'll buy a day pass to a secret resort I know of that we stayed at before (no, I won't say where.....it's a secret). San Juan was awesome but we didn't arrive until like 4 pm or later so it was kind of a waste. Tortolla was basically the same thing as St. Thomas. Overall - WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE!!!!! Boat was totally overcrowded. Everything was sold out. Even at Megan's bay it took over an hour to order a hamburger!!! Too many children running amok unsupervised. We bought a premium plus beverage package but the bartenders kept using well spirits. When I asked for top shelf spirits they all got attitudes. Next drink I ordered, they went back to well spirits. One bartender was standing there fingering her open cold sore (GROSS!!!!!) as she was "explaining to me how it works". I don't need to be explained to. The cruise cost 50% more than a similar 10 day cruise on Princess and everything had an up-charge on top of that. When you would go to guest services, there was a line with an hour wait and then the staff was rude. On Princess, they have a website where you can upgrade your beverage package, book reservations, and shore excursions, etc. Norwegian doesn't have anything except these kiosks that you really can't do anything other than book entertainment (which was all sold out). Nobody would wash their hands before entering the buffet (GROSS!!!!!!). I heard several staff members coughing and I ended up with the flu. My fiancee did a day later. This is the WORST vacation we have ever been on!!!!!! Read Less
