Excellent crew cannot make up for dishonest management

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Norwegian Sun

Just to give this review some context, I was traveling solo, am 70 years old, and this was my second Norwegian cruise. I took this cruise primarily for three ports: Acajutla (El Salvador), Puerto Quetzal (Guatemala) and San Juan del Sur (Nicaragua). I'd already been through the Panama Canal, so that was of less interest to me. First, there were things to like about this cruise. The ship ...

Old Ship, Needs Work, Great Crew Though

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Norwegian Sun

To be clear, this was my first cruise, so I don't have anything to compare it to, or any sense of what is typical on a cruise ship. The Sun is an older ship and could really benefit from some updating and repairs. Many people that I spoke with had mechanical problems in their cabins, though most were promptly fixed by the crew. I had an issue with the thermostat in my cabin. It didn't work, so ...

Beautiful ship with a Covid/illness outbreak!

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Norwegian Encore

The NCL Encore is truly a beautiful ship in so many ways. My sister and I decided to sign up for the 15 day Panama Canal cruise from Miami to Los Angeles, and we opted for a spa balcony stateroom on deck 15 aft. The room was comfortable and efficient. We enjoyed the upgraded soaps and lotions provided as part of the spa room, as well as daily included access to the spa thermal suite on deck 16. ...

Beautiful ship, friendly staff, may never cruise again though

My brother and I chose this cruise for the panama canal itinerary. Originally the itinerary had Costa Rica and Nicaragua as stops but those got replaced with Acapulco, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. I understand and appreciate that sometimes ports have to be dropped due to safety or other issues. However, adding Acapulco, as an alternative, seemed dangerous to me, as it is currently on level 4 “do ...

Good but not great

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Norwegian Encore

We chose the Norwegian Encore Panama Canal Cruise as we were looking for a longer cruise. The cruise was 15 days and started in Miami, ending in LA. I really really wanted to love this cruise. We went in with a really positive attitude and decided to ignore all the naysayers from the various reviews and Facebook groups that we had seen. The cruise ended up being rather mediocre. Food service is ...

NCL San Diego to Mexican Riveria April 2023

We took this cruise the week of April 16, 2023 and although we did have a good time, it was not because of anything NCL did. We had Priority Boarding and found the staff in San Diego to be very unhelpful. There was no process for explaining or assisting with Priority Boarding which we paid extra for. Seemed like it was simply a charge without any service. My wife asked a NCL representative how we ...

The good, the bad and the (occasional) ugly

We’re just back from a long 15 days cruise on the Norwegian Encore and thought to share some of our experiences and maybe dispel some myths along the way as there are many of those to be found on this forum. Before we start, it should go without saying but I better just say it upfront- these comments are solely based on our own experiences and sometimes on conversations with other guests and ...

Overcrowded and Understaffed

This was our sixth NCL cruise If this was our first cruise ever on NCL, it's unlikely we would ever return. So many things went sideways on this cruise. Just challenges all week long. First, embarkation at San Pedro was the worst it has ever been. Handicapped passengers were ignored and repeatedly lied to about boarding. We waited THREE hours in the terminal for wheelchair assistance, ...

Good, the bad and the ugly

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Norwegian Joy

My husband and I chose this cruise because we wanted to go through the new canal and end up in Miami to visit friends. The ugly, embarkation process was a joke. Many passengers did not get on the ship until late afternoon, total confusion by the staff at the terminal. Many staterooms were not ready until four. On many days staterooms were not cleaned until after two and sometimes later. We ...

We wanted to do the Panama Canal, so we booked this cruise. Shortly after booking it in September 2022 they cancelled stops in Costa Rica and Nicaragua without a reason or refund. Then in December they sent a notice stating the ship would sail from Berth 46 in Los Angeles. A google check showed that the berth had zero facilities which made no sense as it was the middle of winter. Even So Cal has ...
