Nov 2, 2016 on the NCL Jewel to Mexican Riviera. It was fantastic. Booked 2 bedroom suite in the Haven for just the two of us and couldn't have asked for better! The butler, concierge, and valet did everything we asked and then some. They went beyond our expectations. Laundry service was wonderful. We also enjoyed en suite dining. It was nice to have so many specialty dining evenings, too. Strolling along the various public decks was calm and peaceful. Didn't take advantage of the spa and we never ate in the main dining rooms. We traveled with another couple who were in suite 14512 and they couldn't have been more pleased with the ship I can't imagine cruising with NCL in any other suite! We are Platinum members and that makes for a lot of nice special touches. We liked the private seating area for all the shows. Wonderful experience! Read Less

We chose this cruise to travel to Cabo, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta with our niece and her husband as well as our adult daughter. The Le Cirque Bijou show was the BEST show I have seen on ANY cruise. The comedian and magician shows are not to be missed. Really great magic and funny comedian who doesn't have to be raunchy to be funny, Desserts and buffets were delicious and service in dining rooms was great. One nice thing about the Jewel is that ALL the staff try to make your cruise experience a wonderful one. The gratutities are mandatory so let them do all they do to help insure your pleasant trip. Love that the ship is kept very clean inside and out. Washy Washy. My drink package was excellent as I never had an issue with anything I asked for and my drinks were not watered down as I had read on other reviews. The captain was everywhere on the ship and accessible to all. Cruise director Iain was also very personable and friendly and funny. Wish we had an overnight in Cabo San Lucas as it would be nice to spend the whole day at the beach or doing activities. Last tender is at 2:30 so you need to start your morning very early to enjoy as much time on land as possible. Other than that, I would definitely go again on this cruise and I know I would have loved it just as much. Read Less

This is an average cruise ship with small rooms. (Read my room review) The food was decent and complimentary Juices, lemonade and water when dining. They confiscate your wine at check in (San Pedro) as they have NO SYSTEM for counting and charging corkage for it when you are dropping off your bags at the curb. We received ours at 9pm the first night, ridiculous system currently in place. They have an adult pool and children's side by side. Smoking is upstairs above it at the Sky High Bar and fun crowd. Many Children, Elderly and Honeymooners on the ship. Not a lot of teens. The restaurants have similar food (Tsar's and Azur). When returning from a excursion you are double checked and xray machine for alcohol. If you have it is confiscated and returned to you on the last night. The Las Caletas Hideaway excursion is very fun, but not recommended for anyone who has a hard time walking. Free stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, inner tubes, kayaking and fun floating docks. Decent Lunch too. You cannot bring a wheelchair. Beware of being bombarded with Mexicans when leaving the ship in Mazatlán and Cabo trying to sell you taxi rides and ship rides. It's crazy. Do not let them touch you, by putting bracelets on you ..SAY NO. Be prepared when leaving the ship to stand in a line with hundreds of people.. be prepared. Read Less

We sailed out of LA and made it as far as Puerto Viarta when the ship broke down and we had to spend overnight in port, as well as being told we would not be traveling to Mazatlan To say that it was uncomfortable is nothing but the truth no a/c and it was quite muggy. We broke down because of mechanical problems that had been fixed earlier in the year. I have to say that the only bright star of the cruise was the staff onboard they had to deal with a couple hundred or more extremely angry passengers, which I can't blame them. On top of that Norwegian has decided that the California coast is no longer to be sailed. Only cruises on west coast is Alaska in spring. Sorry to say might have to cruise another line, which would be sad as I generally enjoy sailing with Norwegian. Read Less

I loved my 10-day Alaska Jewel cruise in September, weather was really nice for being late in the season, we even were lucky to have sun at Glacier Bay, it was the highlight of the cruise, the Captain brought the ship for a close-up experience and then turn it so everyone could get a view; we were so close we could actually hear the earth moving! This was the best experience ever and I have sailed there previously. The entertainment was very good, the food was exceptional most nights, the port were fun and the staff really fantastic! The cabin was spacious and clean. I liked that they do not fill the public areas daily with shopping "deals" if you need to shop there is a large designated store for that. My only complaint would be the pricey drinks and the fact that you can't even bring a bottle of water onboard. Read Less

This was a bucket list. my Parents celebrated their 50th anniversary this year and Dw myself our 14 year old and my parents took a 2 bedroom penthouse suite. the trip was amazing, we stayed 3 night at the Edgewater hotel one pier down from the ship pier very convenient. and the hotel even carted out luggage over on embarkment. when we arrived we were checked in and whisked on board. the room was ready so we were allowed to leave our carry on in the haven and head to maderno for lunch as we looked over at the Edgewater hotel. watching the Seattle sky line disappear into the distance the 14yr old dawned his swimsuit and took to the heated sapphire pool (this he did almost every day all the way up to skagway first week in September. the staff are amazing the ship is not new by i have no complaints. she is much smaller than BA (1/3) so it is a different feel. in some ways the BA had a more intimate feel in the haven. we enjoyed Karen Roland Ronald and Wayan very much this is a great team between these fantastic four it would not have been the same without them. ant the highlight of the entertainment imo is JP, the magician/comedian, if you can do not miss a chance to see him. the entourage was a but disappointing, boy was bullied second to last night. this was the worst pert of the trip. if you use this tool on board watch who/what is going on. We chose the line as we had been on one NCL cruise years ago and wanted the freestyle dining, which at that time only NCL was offering. On that cruise I went the cheap route and was satisfied for what I paid. This time, headed to Alaska, I wanted a balcony and then went one step further and got the Penthouse Aft Suite Unit 8132 which totaled about $6000 for the cruise. Not cheap but this cabin to us was worth it; first time on an aft cabin and will always pick it from now on if given the chance. If you are worried about the aft cabin please do not as there are NO negatives. We keep the balcomy doors open the whole cruise and the wake of the ship will put you to sleep in about 5 minutes. Some have noted the aft cabin is a long walk from the food; just the opposite actually since both the buffet and the 2 main dining rooms are towards the rear of the ship. There is NO hall noise and the cabin was way beyond what I expected. Also I would like to comment about some of the pickier remarks about the cruise, i.e. not getting specialty coffee with the drink package, paying for bottled water etc. If that and other minor charges are an issue then you need to jump to a Celebrity type cruise. The ships coffee was hot, strong and flavorable in additiona to being available from 5 AM to midnight. And the tap drinking water was ok with me. With this cabin you get 3 nights specialy restaurant dining, unlimited drinks, 250 minutes of internet and $ 50 credit on a shore excursion. You also have a concierge and a butler if needed; we didn't. Here's a list of thoughts which I hope wil help: 1. Bring a digital clock, an extension cord and styrofoam cups with lids. There is nothing disposble on the ship and if you want to take something to drink away from the dining room you will need a cup. 2. The TV, which is a dated flat screen, shows old movies more suited to families and was basically worthless other than to chart the ships course and weather. 3. The ship's library is actually pretty good if you want something to read and didn't bring anything. Note that there is nothing available from a mag or book standpoint to buy on the ship. 4, There is no laundry facility for guests but you can send clothes out if needed. Pricey but available. 5. No iron in the stateroom but they will bring you one. Hair dryer is in the room. 6. The buffet is excellent in all respects. It does get crowded but we could always find a seat in the area provided. Only water, tea and coffee for free and also milk for breakfast 7. There is a decent size refrigertor in the cabin and the steward will take the stuff for sale out if you don't want it. Handy to bring an extra desert from dinner when you want a midnight snack or to keep milk for morning cereal. 8. Room service is available but we never used it. I tipped our room steward the start of the cruise and he really appreciated the cash. 9. Crew speaks English and were extremely polite and helpful. 10. Most of the shore excursions can be booked separately and much cheaper. You just have to hunt on the web for the providers. 11. If I sailed again to Alaska then I would take the one-way from Seward rather than r/t from Seattle. One negative was that with the Penhouse package you are supposed to get Concierge checkin but we didn't learn about this until we had waited in the long lines and finally got to the checkin desk. When they saw our cabin location someone came out and took us to the Concierge checkin. If you have this package then make sure you ask an NCL rep where to go before you stand in line. We travel with carry on luggage only, so we were first off the ship. There were busses in line for SeaTac and we didnt need a reservation. Cost was $ 20 which is cheap. Whew that was long winded but if anyone has any questions I would be glad to answer if there is a way to ask me. US.... My wife and I are in our mid-seventies.....middle class I suppose. This was a 'look back' cruise. Our very first cruise was to Alaska on the Norwegian Spirit back in '05. We considered it our best cruise and is still rated at the top (11 cruises so far). Our last five cruises were with RCL and so decided to try NCL again. In all we have sailed NCL five times and five with RCL and one time with Carnival. (Never again) In a nut shell... The ship was kept very clean and neat and seemed well maintained......... Our room,... #9545 was fine although there was some noise from the crew quarters at times. Close to the forward elevator. Also had the largest shower of any cruise ship we've sailed. Dining... O'Sheehen's...........very limited menu. What we had in a word 'sucked'. Over cooked chicken tenders, chef's salad was missing almost all......just a bunch of leaves. BBQ dry and tough. Yuck. Main dining rooms... Fancy menu with no substance. Over cooked veggies, tough steak and some old fish that we had to send back.......just horrible. Service was poor as well, no recommendations or feed back. Looked bored with their job. We tried both and our experience was pretty much the same. BIG disappointment. Garden Café.... This place ended up our favorite. The food was fresh and tasty......service pretty good. Excellent fruit and deserts as well. Entertainment........ Pretty good. Aside from the NCL dancers the rest were just fine with the production of Le Cirque Bijou being one of the best shows we've seen on a cruise ship. Comic Marc Merchant was funny as hell and topical. Fellow passengers........ OK.......start the flames....... NCL did away with the dress code and at first take we thought....great...we're in Alaska.....who wants to dress up? We should have known some folks were going to take it to a new low. Dirty and I mean dirty jeans and T-shirts. Flip-flops in the dining room. Rude with push and shove the rule. My wife called it the 'Wal Mart" cruise...... Conclusion.... Most likely will return to RCL..........waaaaaaaaaaaaay better service and waaaaaaaay more food choices. I'm sorry to say this but a somewhat better dressed crowd and behavior too... Ports.... Nothing much has changed in the past eleven years. The people are friendly and seemed happy. While beautiful and unspoiled for the most part its way to removed from the rest of the world to be anything but a place to visit.........could never live there... Never been there? You have to see Alaska at least once. The only place we've visited where it's way more beautiful than any post card could show you..... Read Less

I wanted to make my wife's 50th birthday something she would remember! Well, thanks to NCL, it will be memorable....but not in a good way. 2 Days prior to sailing I receive a call from my travel agent informing me that Skagway was canceled because NCL decided to do maintenance on the propulsion system on the single most expensive sailing of the season. ( Yes I could have picked a less expensive sailing...but again...it fell on my wife's birthday.) I was informed that we were going to get a $100/cabin on board credit...after spending almost $5000 on the cruise. Needless to say I was a tad bit miffed. I called NCL and was politely told to pound sand. I then called the Executive offices...and again, in a much more friendly way told to go "F" myself cuz they werent doing anything for us. I should be happy with the $100 on board credit. Apparently enough people called and they finally refunded one day of the cruise. It sounds nice, but it was still a win for NCL and bolsters their profits. (a mere $78.6 million in 1st quarter 2016 profits) On to the cruise....really a disappointment: My cruise experience was less than favorable. The main sticking point was the staff...from the cruise director to the bar tenders. Don't get me wrong, some of them were great...my room guy was fantastic. I even tipped him above the pre-paid gratuity. One of the waiters in the martini bar was amazing...tipped him too! The ones that irritated me....rather infuriated me was your Cruise Director, Archie. He seems a nice enough guy, but is it really appropriate to joke about the fact we had our itinerary changed and we wouldn't be going to Skagway? I know he was kidding, but more than just myself found this to be in really poor taste and completely unprofessional. Never the less, really hit a sore spot and kinda put me in a rotten state of mind the rest f the cruise. If that wasn't enough, the bar staff needs to lighten up when someone says a drink isn't correct. I asked to have my drink re-poured because it was kinda nasty. He snatched the glass from me....huffed away, grabbed the bottles that were required and poured in front of me...pushed the glass across the bar and in a rather terse tone asked, "will this do, SIR?" The other issue was the lack of activities on the ship. Since we spent more time at sea than we did in port, it would have been a grand idea to have stuff available for the passengers. On the way back, the bars closed...the gift shop closed and the casino closed. The only thing to do was pay $20 to play bingo which is a totally controlled game since you can dictate the outcome because the cards are pre determined to what one wins and you can dictate the winning card based on the pot. The food on board was OK. It was presented nicely but really lacked any flair. The taste was really blah. No offense, I have had better food at Denney's. I had a NY Strip the 1st night that I ordered Med. It came out cold...well past well done and dry and lacked flavor. My friend also ordered the same....we both sent them back. Anyway, Not a positive experience to say the least. The compensation offered was a kind gesture but truly overall, doesn't account for all the shortcomings. Unless NCL where to have some absolutely amazing offer, I cannot say I'll ever choose NCL as a choice and would not refer a friend. The way we were treated was less than acceptable. There you have it fellow cruisers....you've been warned. Read Less

I had always wanted to do the Alaska cruise and so we decided to go with NCL. This was a 7 night cruise starting from and terminating at Seattle. The embarkation was pretty smooth and the ship was sparkling, it is 10 years old but seemed to be brand new. The cabin was somewhat cramped but that was to be expected. There were more than enough activities to keep all on board occupied 24x7. They have a theater where there were a mix of shows Vegas style, poolside BBQ and parties, a great variety of all kinds of restaurants with eclectic menus. The staff were all extremely courteous and efficient and the service was generally of a high standard. They have a lot of activities for children. We had three shore excursions which were well planned and covered interesting sites. All in all a good trip except for a major billing problem wherein they erroneously charged me upwards of $4200. this was a major inconvenience and as of writing this charge though accepted by them as an oversight has still to be reversed. The entire trip was soured by one accounting clerk's slip. Read Less

This was our 2nd Alaska cruise on the Jewel. We weren't able to cruise through Tracy Arm, so the sights were not quite as spectacular. We did pass a pod of whales and that was great! Ketchikan and Skaggway are always great for shopping. We like Skaggway better for what shops have to offer. Embarkation was much better this time than last year. It went much quicker and NCL is starting to enter the computer age. Instead of copying credit card information they now have a card reader at the check in counter. Don't expect much in the way of priority check in. Even if you book a suite, you stand in the same priority line as any returning customer until you finish check in. Surprisingly, our room was ready when we boarded around 12:30. More surprising, our luggage arrived before the muster drill was called. That's really impressive! The Jewel's furnishings are past due for replacement. The chairs in Magnum's should have been left by the curb months ago. Our mini-suite was clean and, except for the closet which is awkwardly close to the bed, actually preferred to the penthouse suite we had on a Mexican Riviera cruise. Avoid anything less than the mini-suite if you can. The balcony cabins and below have impossibly small toilet areas. We had the 3 meal dining package and used it at Cagney's. With the change to a la carte we were unsure what our package covered, but our waiter assured us that anything on the menu was included, even the lobster! Wait staff and hostess for Cagney's were a pleasure to deal with and went out of their way to seat us at requested times. Reservations were a must for Cagney's! We were disappointed to see surcharges on the MDR menu. Those wanting lobster and more expensive steak cuts should be directed to the a la carte restaurants. Beyond that, we were well taken care of in Tsars MDR. Always friendly staff, who often remember travelers from previous trips, make dining that much nicer. Try the New York strip with Frites! It's a delicious steak with fries! The chicken breast is also a good choice! We didn't attend any of the shows because of hearing problems. We enjoyed Radon in Magnum's and got in a few dances. NCL always does an excellent meet and greet for cruise critic members. It's very nice for the senior officers, including the captain, to take time to do this. What really makes a good cruise is the room sreward. We had a very good one this time. Read Less

positives... chose this cruise because of the free style no dressing up etc.liked the itinery.which did not disappoint. Our cabin with a balcony was clean if a little tired looking ( the whole ship needs a refurbishment) .Our room steward Noel was excellent and made up for all the negatives. Unfortunately there were not many other positives. Food was reasonable good selection in buffet, we ate mostly in the Tzars Palace restaurant in the evenings where on the whole the food was not to bad lacked a little variety as did Sheenans bar where we ate most lunchtimes. We only had one meal at Le Bistro speciality restaurant the food was good but I would have liked the choice of smaller portions maybe small plates as well as large ones I had to leave half of a very good steak! I did think that it was very over priced for what I would call americanised french food. I have to comment on the dress code in the restaurants & bars in the evenings, although it was not formal attire some of the guests looked as if they had come straight of the farm in well worn clothes and had not bothered to even wash !! this has put me of cruising with NCL again. The cocktail and champagne bars needed a wider selection of cocktails, and there definetely needed to be more speciality coffee bars, I spent 20 minutes waiting for coffee every time and they were not included in the beverage package. The entertainment was mixed the comedian was awful I nearly fell asleep the magician on the other hand was good. The cruise band good & singers & dancers okay have seen better could have done with more mixed variety. Daytime entertainment was non existent except for bingo & trivia could do with decent talks about the ports you were to visit and also a cinema why wasn't there stardust theatre used for films in the day ? More demonstrations needed not art shows or emerald shows all there to get you to ppart with your money. Did not use fitness centre or spa. Took a train tour which was excellent The Alaskan scenery and the visit to the ports including Victoria on Vancouver Island made up for all the negatives. Read Less

This was my first time on NCL. The ship left Seattle on Saturday May the 21st. I had the best food, entertainment, and Customer service ever on any cruise ship. This is the 4th cruise line I've been on. The ship's captain talked to me twice when I was on this ship. On another cruise line I quickly learned this was never allowed. What a surprise and how nice to meet such friendly people. The solo group was a lot of fun. I met some really great people and I just had non-stop fun with the group. I liked the anytime dinning. At first I was concerned about it but found I really liked it. I also had the specialty dinning as a free option for 3 dinners. Those were very nice. The ship was beautiful and so very clean. I liked having two doorways open on the side of the ship to allow people on and off. I've never had that before on a cruise ship. I liked the ships 24 hour dinning room, so very helpful and nice. I can't say enough about how good I was treated by NCL and how very much I loved the ship. On a last note, once again I wanted to say the solo group was a total delight. Read Less

If you are full time cruisers, boy do i have some information for you. We just did a 7 day cruise to alaska, and we got surprised by new policies. 1. You cannot remove the gratuities from your bill, on ship and pay cash like we do. Now you get a form to fill out after you leave ship to e mail to their home office and you might get reimbursed. 2. You cannot cash a travelers check at the office for cash. You can put the money in your account and then they will charge you a fee to get cash. 3. In room breakfast is only sweet rolls-coffe-tea served from 6am until 10am. If you want fruit-juice-eggs with your breakfast you are charged $7.95 from 10am until 6 am you are charged $7.95 for all room service orders. 4. The food in the garden café is the same everyday (a lot of pork) and it is never hot. 5. On sea days there were no activities to do. 1 trivia-buy jewelry-buy paintings. the movies that were shown were sci-fi or cartoons. THE TV CHANNELS WERE 5 NEWS-4 SPORTS 1 TV SHOWS 1 CHILDREN SHOWS- 1 MOVIE CHANNEL ( 5 MOVIES REPEATED OVER & OVER.) 6. Thresholds at inside doors are a problem to get over in a wheelchair. there is no way to get near the front row in the showroom without using stairs. People who can’t see good need to be close to the stage. we didn’t get to see any of the live shows. 7. We cruised on this line last year and we didn’t have any of these problems. The new policies are geared to nickle & dime you to death. i can see that this cruise line will be getting only first time travelers, as the travelers learn from others what is going on and to go to other cruise lines. So if you are planning a cruise and like the new policies then norwiegen cruise lines are for you. Read Less

We had sailed on the Jewel two years ago - enjoyed so much that we decided to take it again. The Jewel crew and staff are awesome and provided us with a wonderful experience. The ports of call were terrific and we enjoyed each one. The nightly entertainment was superb with a variety of shows for all tastes. We night life was lively with many different venues furnishing a great time for all. The glacier that we were going to visit was too dangerous for the ship because of the ice in the fiord. As an alternative, the ship's captain took us to the Endicott glasier in the Tracy Arm - it was just spectacular. Of our favorite ports were Skagway (with a run on the White Pass Railway) and Victoria, BC (one of the prettiest cities we have visited in our years of traveling). Special last minute offer attracted us and we had been on NCL before. Most of the services varied from good to excellent including cabin steward, bar, entertainment, dining service and the ongoing presence of senior officers. HOWEVER the quality of food in the major no supplement restaurants though served in opulent surroundings left a lot to be desired. Average was probably a generous statement. Consider a menu for evening meal that includes "Bangers and Mash". We also ate at the Asian food restaurant, Given we come from a Canadian province that has a high Chinese population and quality Chinese restaurants we are familiar with this ethnic cuisine. Aboard our ship the two dishes we chose were barely palatable. We have sailed NCL before and have to ask "What is going wrong with the food?" Since a highlight of any cruise is often dining, it is unlikely that, in spite of the excellent service of the staff, that we will be boarding NCL again. Read Less

The Norwegian Jewel is a wonderful ship. Lots of great meeting places including the Martini bar, the Fizz lounge and the Atrium Java bar. The entertainment was excellent especially loved the show band and Randon. I did not enjoy the Garden Cafe. It was very busy and noisy and you could not find a seat at peak times. We enjoyed the Tsars restaurant for breakfast and dinner. I don't enjoy anytime dinning but we did manage to find a wonderful waiter named David from Jamaica who waited on us every night. He definitely made our dining experience something special. Our group tried La Cucina as well as Modernos and to be honest it wasn't worth the extra money. All of the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful throughout our trip. I loved that the senior staff all attended our Cruise Critic Meet & Greet. It really made the experience special. The store on the ship was disappointing. There were some sales on the pool deck during the day but really limited selectio if you were looking for gifts to take home. There are daily BBQs poolside over the lunch hour that are very good. We had the drink package which I enjoyed. It does include most drinks but I was disappointed that it did not include bottled water or the specialty coffees. You can order an Irish coffe thou which I enjoyed. Saving of lounge chairs was also a major issue. There are limited loungers and many guests reserved some in the sun and another set in the shade. I know this is a problem on almost every ship but it just seemed to be worse here as there weren't that many areas with loungers. The spinnaker lounge was great and I enjoyed the entertainment here. Don't miss the bridge viewing area on deck 11 forward port side lots of great memorabilia and a chance to watch the Captain in action. Overall a nice ship and a great itinerary. Read Less

My wife and I just recently returned from a Panama cruise that started in Miami and ended in LA on the Jewel. We where both pleasantly surprised at how well the ship has been maintained. The exterior white surfaces show little signs of rust, the rails are all varnished and look like new. When in a port there was always someone cleaning the salt spray from the exterior windows and painting. The interior common areas of the ship are in very good condition with little signs of wear. Our room was also in good over all condition. We both where very happy with the food in both the dining rooms and the pay restaurants. The buffet had a excellent variety of food choices for all three meals. Breakfast was busy so be prepared. The entertainment in the theatre which was good with several different acts throughout cruise. The seats in the theatre are well used, small and some are broken and uncomfortable. The entertainment in the bars was also very good with a nice variety of music. The crew was exceptional. We have cruised many times and never had so many ships officers, ask us about our day to day enjoyment while on board. It was a nice touch. Over all we had a wonderful cruise and hope are travels will give us another opportunity to sail on the Jewel. Read Less

The food and the entertainment were the best! The Norwegian in house band was the best we have seen. Even the lunch BBQ around the pool was very good. On the negative, people were saving chairs and sun beds with towels, so there was no where to sit. If you did not play the game, you did not have a chair. In the dining rooms and the buffet the food was excellent. The ship is very clean. Be aware that if you win a spa treatment, you will pay a 18% service fee. I won the BIG $150 spa credit, choose a port day $132 service but still payed $18% on $150. Not much of a free gift. In Miami you can walk off the ship. There is a free people mover at freedom tower. We bought the $49 Miami 2hr. Tour. Because of a delay getting off the ship, the tour lasted just over an hour ending at the airport. Not good value. This was our 21st cruise. We started in Los Angles and went from the airport to cruise ship port with Super Shuttle $17 per person. The room was an inside cabin 10051. We were able to board early, have lunch, and the rooms were ready at 1:00pm. There was a service room beside us, but there was just a small amount of bumping noise at about 9:30 pm. We never heard anyone in the room beside us. We did not take the excursions as we had been to all of the ports before, except for two. You can walk to the beach in Puerto Corinto, Nicaragua. There is shopping only off the cruise ship in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala. When we got to Miami we stayed the night in the La Quinta hotel, close to the Airport in Doral. The hotel shuttle picked us up, at the airport after our ship purchased Miami tour. We had an early morning flight so we took a Taxi back to the airport the next day. Read Less

Nice stay in the LA airport Hotel, shuttle from Hotel back to airport should of had better info we searched until a security guard took us to our pick up point for the ship, from port to ship smooth. Our internal cabin was laid out in such a way that it was difficult to get around the bed the guest relations desk soon sorted it. Our first two evening meals was not to expectations no wine waiter came to our table the service was so slow we had to ask for our desserts to be brought to us, we arrived shortly after seven wanted to see the show at 9.15 didn't have time for coffee. Third night we had a wine waiter we asked if it was that we were on a drinks package that we we could not have the service the paying customers were entitled to glad to know it wasn't the case. We ordered sword fish for the third evening meal, it came on a bed of lettuce and very little else we both found that something was wrong with the fish that we expected to be white was pink, we complained we were told that we should of asked it to be well done medium or rare this is fish not steak, they brought us more just as bad a number of people sent it back. We ended up at a snack bar and had a burger much better. Next day we went to guest relations for some info and told the lady at the desk about our disappointing meal and poor service she sent for Charlotte Asst.Maitre D much better service after that thanks to her. We found the menu in the Tsar's Palace very poor the descriptions we found difficult to understand. We went to O'Sheehan's and had fish and chips which we enjoyed, two days later we went back the wife had fish and chips the chips came cold they brought a plate of chips after she had eaten the fish, I had soup they brought my main at the same time. The shows were generally very good. There was ten dollar sale on board, I took a watch to the till asked for it to be activated and told the battery wasn't working I picked another one the girl on the till activated it for me went back to the cabin tried to set the time the winder came away, I got my money back, so be very wary what you buy. The shore tours were very expensive we went ashore and used local transport in Cabo and Costa Rica and Cartagena much better and cheaper. The flights home were late and rough due to bad weather. I would recommend this cruise to anyone get your problems sorted early and enjoy we made many new friends, the best cruise out of 17 thank you NCL Jewel. Read Less

We will always refer to this as the eating cruise. The ship has 17 different eateries, but over 7 days we only tried 15, missing two extra-cost dining rooms. Best food ever on a ship. Everything else was up to cruise ship standards, basically on a par with the competition. Pool deck was excessively noisy with games, exercises and music for the deaf. In fact the theatre shows also seemed to be directed at the hearing impaired, or soon to be impaired. Great library, but upright seats uncomfortable. Loved the tennis court. Almost regulation size and by far the biggest and best I've ever seen on a ship. Wide decks made for pleasant evening strolling and they were well used. Lack of formal dress code (or hardly any dress code) was pleasant. Entertainment was usual cruise ship mediocre and invariably loud, really loud. Read Less

If you have never cruised, or are a pro, I am sold on the Norwegian Line. Everything went smoothly and effeciently--the entertainment, spotlessly clean cabin, polite and informative service personnel, and, of course, the delicious food. We had meals at three venues: the topside Buffet, where the abundant food coices make it an adventure to browse and pick; and at the elegant Tsar's Diningroom, with it's large menu, but where I ordered a steak, perfectly grilled, that was not on the menu; and at the supurb French bistro, where they even served perfectly-garlicky snails. Kudos for another wonderful memory. Read Less

We left New Zealand a fortnight before the cruise as we have family in Vancouver and had a week there before we did some touring on Vancouver Island (highly recommend the West Coast; Tofino & Ucleulet) In Vancouver, the family don't have room for us so we use la Quinta and Best Western. We were horrified to find that the Jewel was berthed at Ballantyne, we have been told since that is no longer in use. It meant a far more difficult and costly journey from our hotel. The actual embarking wasn't the best either, ask those who were "In Transit" about that!! When we got on the ship everything went 'swimmingly' till we got to Miami. We enjoyed the service especially in the MDRs as we got to know a number of the crew very well and were treated exceptionally. The food was great, except for half a meal!! Two pieces of veal, one beautiful, the other inedible. We also had great service from the Shorex staff and the Latitudes staff on board so we really enjoyed everything, even the Inside stateroom was just as we expected. We took a shore excursion at every port and enjoyed most of them; not were bad just not up to some of higher standards. We didn't do a lot of activities really just picked and chose, we did enjoy the get togethers and my wife did a few more than me, she found the ones she did to be generally good. We did enjoy the passage through the Panama but the saving of seats in the lounge was a little annoying. She enjoyed the evening entertainment, and I did a lot of walking and swimming so we were both busy in our own way. All in all we really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the first 18 days and would recommend that cruise to anyone. Being "old and set in our ways" we didn't enjoy the three night cruise to the Bahamas and back. The clientele had changed and the atmosphere was totally different!! Read Less
