I chose the cruise because it departs from Vancouver from our home town, cost is extremely high for what's it's worth. Wifi is expensive and unreliable, dining room and buffet menu selection is poor and limited and almost all meat is overcooked, sitting area is also limited and spread out, only one section of buffet, if you can't find a table close by (which most likely is occupied), you have to walked three blocks to get to the food station, very poor design, should at least put the buffet in the center, only a few items of food with displayed with limited selection and quantity. Hot noodles was served with three to four string of noodles (why bother) almost all customers asks for 3-4 portions Salad varieties is so terrible and only couple of bottle thousand island and French dressing Fruit varieties is poor and limited. mostly not quite ready, maybe worry they would go bad? I lost weight at the cruise by doing and eating nothing. I feel totally ripped off and no one anywhere to complain We were denied access to the theatre because I was pushing a stroller, claimed that the hall is full and yet they allowed someone else to walk in and invite them to stand at the back. No words for this cruise. No basics like sugar salt or pepper unless you hunt someone down for them. Service is the worst I’ve ever received at sea. An hour and a half for a kids pizza . If you want vegemite they bring out a jar that you share with other passengers. An hour and a half wait for breakfast in the main dining room. Staff have no interest in helping passengers. If you want a warm meal you need to pay for the speciality restaurants. Way below the standard of royal and carnival In Australia . Water slides were removed which would have been evident when we booked but cruise line failed to mention this when Booking. Very misleading for families. Beds are like sleeping on concrete slabs. Service at dinner is so slow that you miss any shows that are on in the evening. Norwegian have a long way to go to even come close to what the other cruise lines are offering. Read Less

Having sailed more than 100 days on numerous cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival, P&O, Holland America, Celebrity and Princess the Norwegian Jewel was a floating biosecurity nightmare. With staff from officers, medical and security disregarding biosecurity and completely disregarding the company's own policy and procedures in providing a healthy cruise ship environment. In a party of seven passengers, three of us were struck down with the acute gastroenteritis outbreak, that is nearly half, so exactly how many passengers were affected I can only wonder. The Jewel had a recent refurbishment in Singapore and we had a mini suite, which in the end was the only saving grace of this cruise.Sailing from Sydney the ship was fresh with new furnishings and decor. Entertainment was fair with two good shows and the piano player was excellent. Food was good in the speciality restaurants except the Chin Chin. On the second day of sailing I was standing under a huge umbrella near the pool when it collapsed due to winds, the umbrella crashed down on my head, luckily I suffered only soft tissue injuries, but there was no follow up by staff on my wellbeing which to say the least was disappointing. People were being struck down with acute gastroenteritis in the first few days which points to passengers who sailed on the previous cruise and combined this cruise were probably the carriers. The first member of our party to be struck down happened 3 days into the cruise. She was isolated for 24hrs, her husband was also supposed to be insolation, but this did not occur and he was in fact allowed of the ship in different ports. Due to the escalation of the outbreak a day later when my wife was struck down she was isolated for 48 hrs. Meaning myself and her sister were also isolated for 48hrs in the cabin. Missed ports and security telling us to stay in the cabin was just infuriating and akin to house arrest. Our cabin had to be robustly cleaned and after 36 hrs not having contracted the virus I ventured to the buffet and within 8 hrs I was struck down with acute gastroenteritis. Another 48 hrs of lockdown with security again telling us we were confined to our cabin. So 96 hrs or 4 days of our cruise wasted, missed ports, frustrated doctors, unhappy staff and deprivation of liberty. I have stated the biosecurity failures of which I pointed out to both doctors and security both departments shrugged their shoulders with disregard. I was told to contact head office regarding this failure of policy and procedure that protects cruise passengers. It was the fact that 100's of passengers had their own drink bottles and flasks containing their own teas, herbs, tonics etc. These bottles/flasks were taken everywhere, on and off the ship, into toilets, into buffets, restaurants, everywhere. These bottles/flasks were refilled at the drink stations and if they were contaminated the drink stations would then be contaminated. When the status of Norovirus was raised and no self service of food was allowed, staff would take these bottles and flasks and refill them at the same drink stations for the passengers. This is completely in contradiction to the Norwegian policy of guests prohibited from bringing any bottled water or beverages on board the company's ships in either carry-on or checked luggage. Norwegian stated that that this policy brings the company in line with other best practices in travel security protocols. I contacted Norwegian for a refund, I basically was told to suck it up. Itinery was good, until they changed the whole 19 days , the day before we sailed. This ship had the worst service, worst food and as far as things to do on board,,,,bored, bored, bored. Its all about making as much money as they can on ncl. When you complained about things they just say thanks for your feedback. We got off after 9 nights, this was a 19 night cruise. Never had such rude staff, bland boring food. No one was happy on board. The woman at Azure dining room didnt even greet you at night, just looked at you. Buffet staff didnt help cleaning tables etc. Didn't have range of beer, and what they did have was flat. If you complained to pool deck bar staff, they just ignored you and walked away then charged you for drinks you didn't even have, another argument with concierge staff. Don 't know how they can take your money, then change itinery to below what you had booked for. Seats in theatre were so low down, shows were ok. Started repeating acts. I would never recommend to anyone, we have been on several cruises with other lines and they were all great. So many unhappy people on board, glad we disembarked half way through wasn't going to stay another night on the cruise from hell. Read Less

Not many activities on ship as compared to other cruises. Food ( chicken) served was under cooked. Restaurant manager told me that some one would reach out to us. No one contacted. Also, there were some charges made to my account wrong, had to go twice to get them off. My cousin who also went with his family, had put a block on his son, who is 13 years old at the time of boarding. He was able to play games in the arcade and the charges were billed to him. When customer service was reached on 7 th level, we were told the when we put block on his account, it was with contractors that work for NCL at port and they cannot do anything. Later those charges were removed by manager. Looks, innocent people get charged like these. They should provide the statement of charges every night so that customers could know what they are being charged for Read Less

Having sailed on 13 cruises on Carnival, Princess,Royal Caribbean,Celebrity and now our third on NCL; I can't tell you how disappointing this last cruise was. For the first time we splurged and went way over budget to garner an aft Penthouse Suite on the Jewel and boy is it WWWWWAAAAYYYY overpriced. We previously sailed in mini suites on the Breakaway and the Pearl. The Breakaway was really great, but the BW and I said that of all our cruises the Pearl was right near the top. I could go on and on, but the food was not at all good in the MDR or at Cagney's which was our favorite restaurant at sea. For 21/2 times the price it was definately not worth it. The accomadations were meager and the only saving grace were the Steward and the Butler we had Dennis and Rodney, they were amazing. For a lot less money the best food and service ever was the Aqua Class cabin on Celebrity, it was worth every oenny and more. I think the BW and I will stay away from NCL for the forseeable future. This cruise was for a family reunion trip and was chosen by the whole group. We chose to sail out of California because this way the family could save on airline expenses. The ship at first glance was nice, but the customer service was horrible. On other cruise lines, I'm used to being greeted or at least acknowledged by various crew members, but on this cruise many staff would walk by and just keep their heads down as to not be bothered by you. I was also shocked when I took my son and niece to the childrens center and were turned away because they had to close the doors. Mind you, we were one of the last 3 kids in line to enter, but they shut the door in our faces. My son and niece were extremely upset and disappointed because they had been looking forward to going on the treasure hunt for that evening. Another disappointment was the picture area. Our family had taken many pictures and could not wait to purchase some of the shots. When we went down to see them, we took our time choosing the best shots and made our order, only to come back later and find out that all the printers were down and would not be fixed the remainder of the trip. Therefore the only way to get pictures was to purchase a flash drive with no less than 20 shots. What if we didn't want 20 shots?!? It didn't matter, there was no other choice. These are just a couple of frustrations on this boat, but the icing on the cake was when I returned from my trip and contacted Norwegian's corporate office. I sent two certified letters (one to each of the company's CEOs) and have yet to hear back from anyone. Not an email, nor a reply to my letter, not even a phone call. This is unacceptable customer service!!! I cannot believe that no one could take the time to help me or at least hear me out. It seems as if this company is only interested in the money and do not care at all about their customers. If I was unsure of traveling again with this cruise line, I am 100% positive now that I will not be traveling with them again! I did forget to mention one highlight of my trip and that was a spectacular show that was put on by a couple of gymnasts. Their performances were jaw dropping and I really enjoyed watching it from beginning to end. There was also bingo (which is a family favorite) and they had deal or no deal which was fun too. In regards to dining, we ate at all of the options and the best were Cagneys (steak house) and Teppanyaki. The food was plentiful and the taste was on point! Read Less

We tried this cruise ship to go to Mexico. The food was HORRENDOUS in most of the restaurants, specially at Chin Chin restaurant. We much preferred the food in the Garden Cafe to the specialy restaurants. The Haven breakfast had limited food and not very tasty... you can have special order but it wasnt cooked well and took a very long time to cook. Food was terrible... best food was in Garden Cafe. The ship is Old and Small and Front Desk hotel manager is RUDE... the pool deck area is wayyyy too small compared to the other cruises we have taken. The White Party was *DEAD*. They held it at Spinnaker Lounge cuz it was raining in pool deck... when we arrived 30 minutes after the party started there were only @10 passengers on the dance floor...that was the extent of the White Night experience. Usually bartenders and servers would dress up like angels and entertain, dance throughout the night, make the party lively... that was absent here. Our room was not cleaned in detail when we first checked in and the blinds were broken and never fixed even after we complained about it. The chrome fixtures in the room were very dusty and there was hair/dirt in the outer edges of the bathrooms, carpet looked old, faded and dirty... detail cleaning was poor. The hammock, umbrellas, cushions, shades were not set up at all in our private deck. We kept complaining that they needed to set it up and they finally did it right on the 3rd port of call. We didnt purchase any shore excursions from the ship... we saved so much money by buying outside the ship and the Mexicans gave us half price discount. We had great excursions that we arranged with the locals on our own. We attended a free seminar on feet inserts and they managed to convince me to buy a pair for $200. They said there was a free 7 day trial. When I tried to return it before the 7 day period they refused to give my money back. I recall the guy told me they never had a return in their history of selling this... I can see why. We were happy with the entertainment... the New Yorker standup comedian was great, and the dancers were talented and wonderful. Read Less

This was the second time we took this cruise as our family vacation. The first cruise was in October 2015 and we had an excellent experience. We booked a two bedroom family suite and we did enjoy the cabin. Since we travel with our children who are 8 and 11, we appreciate having a separate bedroom and bath for them to use. Our butler, concierge and room steward were all excellent and we had no issues. We did have issues with two of three ports being cancelled due to a maintenance problem. We also were floating in the water for 5 hours after we left LA for an unexplained reason. I would have never booked a cruise (with children) that had 5 sea days on an older ship. There was very little for my boys to do on board. They were bored with ping pong and the mini slide at the overcrowded pool by Monday. They hated the kids club on board. The staff grouped kids ages 6-12 together and catered the activities to the younger children. My boys were told to take it easy in playing games to make it fair to the young kids. They actually had to play a version of duck duck goose. How is that fun at their ages? Every evening was the same complaint about being bored. The entire program needs to be revamped. My husband enjoys gambling on cruises and was upset that the casino was closed for two nights during our stay in Puerto Vallarta. Many other guests were as well. The free drinking program on board led to many drunk people on board. I think they were all so bored with the lack of activities that they just drank. Again, not a good scene for kids. We attempted to play some board games in the game room only to find that most of them were missing pieces or instructions. This was a little frustrating for us as well. The TV selection on board was also terrible. The same movies were recycling over and over again. Both DVD players in our suite did not work. Last year, I was able to bring water and juice and a sleeve of Diet Coke on board. This year it was confiscated during check in. They only serve Pepsi on the ship. My husband got a massage on board out of boredom. He enjoyed the service but all of the services were very pricey! If you are traveling with children, I would advise you to take another ship and consider using another cruise line. We payed a lot for a suite and didn't have a good time! All of us couldn't wait to get off the ship in LA! Read Less

Was my 2nd NCL cruise and 5th overall and first with our kids 6 and 8. As you see from the others on the same cruise, this was one that was not as planned by NCL well. Got the email about missing 1 port before we left. On the first night on the boat I noticed on the TV channel it showed us going back towards LA which I found odd but come to find out it was the engine room fire/smoke issue. I do not fault them for that as I would rather have been back in port that left out to sea with an issue such as this. The communication as we got to PV was lacking to say the least. We knew we had 2 days but was told the 2nd day we needed to be back on the ship by 2 30 PM. Then around 10 pm they announce a delay and say it will be 5 pm to get back. If we would've know that we could've plan a more intense adventure. We did not leave till almost 1 a.m. that night and knew than there was no way to get to Cabo with any time to due much with the tenders that you have to do there. We weren't told til about 9 or 10 a.m. the next day that we were infact going straight back to LA without stopping. This needed to be communicated better and felt bad for the staff as people were getting irate with them and they have no control. We work in the hospitality industry so really felt for them. IDK if we will cruise with NCL again as the ship was older which we knew, but the kids started getting cabin fever by the 5th day with not much new to do. The shows were OK and he food is what you expect nothing too great but kept you full. Kids club was good for the kids and us too but they were kinda overwhelmed also. Read Less

This was the worst cruise ever!!! It was to stop at mazaltan/Puerto Vallarta/cabo. One week prior to sailing we received a email that Mazaltan was to be cancelled because they needed to have routine maintenance on the ship in Puerto villarta and we would be there overnight we thought ok we can deal with that. We get on ship to discover our cabo excursion was cancelled so we go down to schedule for another one and the ones we want are sold out ok we decide we will just shop in cabo and do our own thing. We go to schedule our specialty dining and they are full we have to eat at 10:00 pm and one of them were totally booked. The 2 days at sea were lacking of entertainment and the staff is so rude the bars usually only had one bartender so the wait was ridiculous. We get to Puerto Vallarta and our excursions were awesome on the second day was told to be back at the ship by 2:59 we would set sail at 3:30 pm ar 8:00pm the captain came on and said the URGENT maintenance (they had said it was routine) had taken longer and would set sail by 10:00 pm for cabo. The next morning at 8:00 am the captain came on again stating we were not able to set sail until 11:30 that night and they would have to cancel cabo. So NO MAZALTAN AND NO CABO we were at sea for 5 days of the 7. The food was by far monotonous the same thing over and over again. The staff became more rude because the guest were frustrated. We only seen one port and everyone wondered why we paid all these port fees they did agree to refund 25% of the cruise on our last day but that is really a insult seeing how we not only did not see 2 ports but also waisted a week of vacation. I have cruised many time on other cruise lines this was my first on Norweigen and it will be our last. We had planned to schedule a Alaska cruise with em them while there but I will find another cruise line for that. Read Less

NEVER AGAIN!...This is the title of my review. Yes, after being Silver member of Norwegian Cruise line (using this cruise line many times for different destinations) - this cruise to Alaska with NCL will be my LAST cruise with them. And here is why. I wouldn't complain about the bed size in cabin (very small SINGLE beds) but I'll start with FOOD in restaurants. As you already familiar, cruise line has many restaurants, starting with 'specialty' restaurants where you can PAY an additional money for the quality of the food...but guess what NCL Jewel decide to do? Yes, they decided to use 'PAY extra' for food in main restaurants where food in the menu should be complimentary, without any charge! I was unpleasantly surprised when I saw $24.99 charges (plus 18% gratuity) applied for few dishes in main restaurant...for Surf and Turf item and Beef Steaks...!!! So, I called the restaurant manager and asked why would these items be included in Main restaurants at all? What is the reason to add 'La Carte' charges in complimentary restaurants? And explanation was: 'we have new management and it's our new policy, so called 'pilot' to see if people likes it'. What to be like about? If I want to pay extra for my food then I would choose the specialty restaurant not the main/complimentary restaurant...I absolutely don't need to see these charges and be intimidated with these additional charges options, in my opinion! Or maybe NCL think that if my stomach is hungry then my brain will not be able to think and I'll pay extra?!!!!!...hahahaha...right... NCL has been bought by Oceania cruise line year ago and quality of the food on NCL went down drastically, from salty soups to uneatable meat (try to cut your beef and duck and you'll see what I mean!). I saw/hear a lot of people complaining about, saying that they never been seeing such a low quality of food!...Now, let's talk about something else...like TOILET PAPER (because after such food I can guarantee you that your next stop will be toilet:). Oh these TOILET PAPER!!!! Let me tell you, my friends, forget about nice outfit in your luggage. Net time you're traveling with NCL - bring your nice toilet paper instead!:)...NCL provides not toilet paper but some kind of quality of paper which cannot be used for your nose when you'll sneeze!...And it's not the laughing matter...I truly want to send the roll of such toilet paper to CEO of NCL...I would pack it nicely, with red bow and send with the special delivery to CEO's wife...but, unfortunately, customer desk would not give me NCL CEO home address!...oh well, maybe someone will read this review and will NOT use NCL for their next cruise. This will be my 'pay back'...because for me, NCL is NEVER AGAIN, for sure!!!! Read Less

The family chose this line. I had heard that they were not a very good line. The staff and the balcony room were nice but it ends there. The food was below average even when you paid extra. The officers were not friendly and the tours were over priced. I use Viatour tours and the family use the boats tour company. They wished they had use my tour company. They cancelled one stop to return to port for repairs. They informed us 2 days before sailing. Repairs are scheduled months in advance. Gave us a $100 credit per person. Never Sail On Norwegian Cruise Line. I have sailed on many cruise lines - this is the worst of all of them. 90% are very good and worth the price. First timers do not what is great and what is not. Norwegian Jewel the worst ship I have been on and I consider Norwegian Cruise Liner with fraudental advertising. I was on a 7 night Alaskan Cruise. We were to dock at 3 Alaskan port and also at Vancouver BC. Two days before sailing; Norwegian Cruise send an email stating they were cancelling Skagway Port stop due to ship repair. Norwegian Cruise line reimbursed US$ 267 for the port cancellation. It makes no sense to me. By cancelling Skagway, they cancelled 1/3 of the vacation. The stop at BC Vancouver is so close to Seattle that it could be cost effective to travel without the cruise ship. We visited only 2 ports in Alaska. We were docked at Seattle port for two nights. Beside the cancellation, the ship was dirty. The hallway smelled of feces. All shows were sub standard with amateur actors. The buffet food was terrible with exception for breakfast. I will never recommend this cruise line. Norwegian Cruise Liner makes cruising a nightmare instead of a vacation. Read Less

My husband and I wanted to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with our adult children and granddaughter by going on a cruise. This was our first experience with Norwegian and IT WILL BE OUR LAST!! We flew into Seattle and had no problem meeting with the NCL representative and being transported to the ship. Embarkation was smooth. Our luggage was delivered timely. Our cabin was very nice and the bathroom was large with a walk-in shower. The staff was friendly and helpful. It went downhill from there! The food was awful. The choices didn't change much from day-to-day. Nothing tasted fresh; nothing was served hot; basically everything was bland, boring and tasteless as institutional food. We ate at the buffet quite often - not because the food was better, but we at least had more of a selection of lousy food to choose from. The entertainment and/or activities were sub-par! Four out of five things listed involved a charge or were barely disguised sales pitches for jewelry, cameras, teeth whitening, etc. The only thing we could find to do in the evening was listen to music in one of the lounges. The only time a movie was offered was on shore excursion days when we were off the ship. My daughter and I tried to go to "Play Bingo with our fellow passengers". The card room was overrun with unsupervised children as it was most of the time. No one from NCL was there to organize the game - probably too busy selling Bingo or Deal or No Deal tickets! Our granddaughter (age 7) was probably the happiest one as she absolutely loved Splash Academy. The ports and shore excursions were interesting. We went on a whale watching tour in Juneau, took a three hour train ride in Skagway, watched a lumberjack show in Ketchikan and enjoyed Victoria. We celebrated with our family which was the purpose of the cruise. But we will definitely return to Princess the next time we cruise. Read Less

If you are full time cruisers, boy do i have some information for you. We just did a 7 day cruise to alaska, and we got surprised by new policies. 1. You cannot remove the gratuities from your bill, on ship and pay cash like we do. Now you get a form to fill out after you leave ship to e mail to their home office and you might get reimbursed. 2. You cannot cash a travelers check at the office for cash. You can put the money in your account and then they will charge you a fee to get cash. 3. In room breakfast is only sweet rolls-coffe-tea served from 6am until 10am. If you want fruit-juice-eggs with your breakfast you are charged $7.95 from 10am until 6 am you are charged $7.95 for all room service orders. 4. The food in the garden café is the same everyday (a lot of pork) and it is never hot. 5. On sea days there were no activities to do. 1 trivia-buy jewelry-buy paintings. the movies that were shown were sci-fi or cartoons. THE TV CHANNELS WERE 5 NEWS-4 SPORTS 1 TV SHOWS 1 CHILDREN SHOWS- 1 MOVIE CHANNEL ( 5 MOVIES REPEATED OVER & OVER.) 6. Thresholds at inside doors are a problem to get over in a wheelchair. there is no way to get near the front row in the showroom without using stairs. People who can’t see good need to be close to the stage. we didn’t get to see any of the live shows. 7. We cruised on this line last year and we didn’t have any of these problems. The new policies are geared to nickle & dime you to death. i can see that this cruise line will be getting only first time travelers, as the travelers learn from others what is going on and to go to other cruise lines. So if you are planning a cruise and like the new policies then norwiegen cruise lines are for you. Read Less

Let me brgin by saying that I have been on mant cruises with my kids(about 20). Most of them with RC and a fee with Carnival. History has shown me that due to their stellar kids clubs, i was guerunteed some R&R. I chose this cruise over all othersfor the mexican riviera , for my 4 year old daughters spring break because of how NCL advertised the kid program as have a climbimg gym and obstacle coarse. The room for the splash academy was a blank 15'by15' padded floor roon. NO TOYS NO JUMGLE GYM NO COMPUTERS.I I spent the entire month prior talking to her about the kids club and all the things she would do. getting my VERY active daughter excited about the gym. She was so sad and i had to coax her to go so i could enjoy the awesome thermal suite i pirchased. While there she injured her knee, blead and was refused a bandaide. The only thime i left her there at port was for an hr or so when i picked her up she was sitting in pee she had an accident because she was affraid to ask staff for the bathroom. This was very much oit of charactor for her .Very low budget and we paid over 3000 for the 2 of us in a mini suite. The food was fair . I only eat fruit , veggies and some fish so i am not hard to please. All else was fine. I have cruised so much that i dont have really high expectations. There was something very distubing that i witnessed. We ate at Cagneys 2x and bistro 2x . While we were there waited to be seated i saw folks teying to get a reservation. They were denied stating it was full. I was there close to 2 hrs each time ant the restaurants were practically empty. So they are not being honest with people. My favorite stop was Masatlan we did the beach resort excursion . It was awesome. Great place for kids. They even had a kids club with cupcake decorationg and games. We didnt utilize that but we could have. We did the exclusive beach resort in Cabo. That was a time share.. owners not happy avout us being there the pool was pretty but yoi had to go outside a locked door for beach. It was crowded with teen and colege kids that trampled over my daughter. Read Less

My husband and I are avid cruisers but had never cruised on Norwegian before. We were taking our children and grandchildren on this cruise and thought that Norwegian would be a wise choice as much seemed to be offered for all ages and it left from our home port of Los Angeles. It felt clear to us that the majority of employees were not happy about working over the Christmas season, it was palpable as employee after employee was either blatantly rude or merely dismissive save for a couple of exceptions. Initially we were looking forward to the many dining options. After eating in the Italian Restaurant the first night (for a price), we changed our mind. The food was inedible and nobody seemed to care. The buffet smelled like a hospital cafetaria and the food tasted similar. The only thing I found that was tasty were the french fries. It was impossible to get reservations at any of the other restaurants except for Teppanyaki which was passable (also at a price). We had some problems with service at guest relations, who communicated that they could not solve our problems and we would have to take them up with customer service on our return. My husband spent 45 minutes on the phone trying to speak to a live person on our return. Unsuccessful, he emailed his complaint and received an email in return, telling him to expect a response within 15 days!!!!!! Read Less

My niece had flown with Norwegian Air while in Europe and raved about the experience, so when she graduated from college we decided to use Norwegian Cruise Lines to travel to Alaska. Our expensive, once in a lifetime vacation. I booked the entire trip through the Norwegian Cruise Line desk. The first words out of my mouth were "I AM IN A WHEEKCHAIR". This must mean something different to them than it means to me. Luckily, I am pretty able bodied, I am missing a leg, but get around very well. Had they bothered to tell me what a BAD idea it was to want to go on a cruise in a wheelchair, we would not have WASTED the thousands of dollars it cost. First we were booked on American Airlines, leaving Cleveland at 5 AM which meant getting to the airport at 3 AM. OOPS! they never bothered to mention the luggage fees imposed by American Airlines. The porters at CLE REFUSED to help me to the gate since my personal wheelchair did not have the leg pieces on it (I do not need them). So we got to the gate ourselves. The flight we were booked on was "down thirty steps/across the tarmac/and up ten steps". The check-in woman was nice enough to change us to a later flight that had a jetway. However, there was not enough room between the rows for my prostatic leg and forget using the bathroom. We arrived in Chicago O'Hare late and raced to the exact opposite end of the airport to find that they had no record of us and no room for us so we were bumped to an even later flight. When we finally arrived in Seattle, (after waiting over an hour at the transportation area) we were told that the transportation voucher was useless since they did not have ANY handicapped accessible vehicles. We had to get a cab. We finally arrived at the hotel nine hours after we were due. The manager on duty was snippy and let us know that no handicapped accessible rooms were available and that we should have let them know when WE made the reservations. She would however give us a room without an accessible bathroom with one queen bed and a pull out couch (for over $300 a night). which we refused. Finally an hour and a half later, we were put in adjoining rooms and informed that she was "doing us a favor". The next morning we contacted the cruise line to find out that they did not have an accessible bus to take us to the port. Everyone ended up waiting in the lobby while they found one. The bus driver did not know how to use the wheelchair lift and we were stuck in the very back of the bus with a broken and smelly toilet. We finally arrived at the port and one cruise line employee pushed my chair about tem feel and said, "you have it from here" and walked away. We were checked in and met Butu (a porter) who ended up being a God send. He was the most helpful person we met on the ship. Helped me navigate the gang ways that were so steep there was NO WAY anyone besides a mountain goat could have navigated in a wheelchair. We went to our stateroom and there was a note on the bed letting me know that if I needed any help with my "FOOD ALLERGIES" that I should contact the special office. I do not now, nor have ever had food allergies, I have one leg. My niece and I had spent months doing research on Alaska and on the available excursions, I paid for everything in advance.. NONE of the excursions listed on the web site as accessible actually were. There was no transportation available. We went to the excursion desk and the person working there let us know that they would gladly refund MY money, but my niece would have to go on them alone. Right, I wanted to stay on the ship the entire time and she wanted to sightsee alone! The special needs officer was able to get us ADA transportation, unfortunately NONE of the bus drivers knew how to use the lifts for the wheelchair causing delays and hurt feelings among the other passengers. She tried her best, but the entire cruise was a bust. A way overpriced bust. There is one handicapped restroom on each floor and every single time in ten days I went to use it, they were locked. The special needs officer would have them unlocked and when the next cleaning crew came by they locked them again. So, no matter where we were on the ship, I had to go all the way back to our stateroom to use the bathroom. A stateroom that was supposed t to be accessible, it was if you only wanted to go inside the door and turn into the bathroom. The rest of the room (we paid for the balcony room to avoid this) was too small. Never did get to see the balcony! I will say that we were extremely glad that we paid for the upgraded dining package. The main buffet was not accessible. There were a couple of tables designated for handicapped only, but no one to enforce the rule so they were always taken by "able bodied people". A couple of crew members offered to help me at the buffet as the tables were all higher than I could see, unfortunately most had thick accents and I had no idea what was on the buffets. We decided to relax and see the shows only there is only a small area that fit one wheelchair and three seats across the aisle that were designated for handicapped seating (again mostly ignored) so my niece and I could not sit together for most of the shows. We were able to get the seats once, but they are on the ONLY aisle that goes from one side of the auditorium to the other. We were repeatedly trampled by rude guests who felt the need to trample on our/her feet and my one foot. One woman even tried to take my wheelchair for her own. I know this is a long review, it is not nearly half of what we experienced. When we finally got home, I wrote to Norwegian Cruise Lines and after many emails and informing them that I was contacting the Federal Government about their lack of adherence to the ADA, I finally received a response. Offering me about $700 that could only be used on another cruise. Nothing for my niece since she was not handicapped, her "once in a lifetime" vacation was ruined by them also. Why would I ever go on another cruise with them after the almost $10.000 fiasco that was our trip to Alaska??? Read Less

First time cruisers with another family who previously cruised on Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Children were ages 4, 6, 14, and 16 so given that this was our Thanksgiving holiday we were really psyched but quickly disappointed. Embarkation was a breeze. Arrived to the terminal, dropped off the luggage, parked and all checked in relatively fast. No more than 45 minutes from lining up in customs to getting on the boat and then the issues began. Drink packages - I am pregnant and cleared for travel however because my husband and our children all must purchase a drink package because he will be drinking there is not an online option to change my drink package to an all-inclusive soda package. Doing this online supposedly saves you $5 a day however when I called before we left I was told it was too late to do this and to explain to them my issue on the boat and there should be no problem. Wrong again. We left on a Saturday, purchased the all-inclusive drink package for $54/day and were told to call the offices on Monday to dispute the charges because there was nothing that could be done - and this was the beverage manager we were talking to. Food - Garden Cafe (buffet) has the same food for breakfast, some changes in lunch and dinner but nothing to brag about. As for the "CHOCOHOLIC" night that they raved about in the daily - it was a misprint on Thursday and not available in Tsar's and when we asked our server she found out from her manager it was not available. So it was again listed in the daily for Friday and nothing more than what the Garden Cafe already had available for desserts on any other day. Desserts were disappointing as were the specialty desserts from Carlo's Bake Shop. As for O'Sheehans - great bar food if you don't mind waiting for it or if they don't forget to put your ticket in as this happened to me. This was where we went to dinner the first night thinking we'd try it out since the menu seemed appealing (wings, cheese sticks, chicken pot pie, fish & chips and burgers). Wait time was 40 minutes and we were seated. Once we ordered we just ordered in bulk and then our server disappeared. The next day I decided I'd go for lunch and get a burger. An hour later my husband and I are still waiting on my lone burger however everyone who was seated before and after me have eaten and left and still no food. Tsar's was interesting on Thanksgiving night as we had reservations and some ordered the Thanksgiving meal however they didn't bring the first course out (soup) until reminded and then decided that they wouldn't bring yams with one of the meals and instead put carrots thinking it would go unnoticed, perhaps? Azura was better but the food choice was only for that day. Our only good food was the last night at Teppanayaki's but with a 10p reservation we were unable to order sushi because the restaurant closed at 8p. Really? Room service menu was limited so don't plan on ordering a continental breakfast - not an option. Pizza is available 24/7 at a $5 charge and any room service orders after midnight cost you and additional $4. Room - we had a balcony on Deck 10 and right next to the elevators. Convenient and at times noisy but standard for a vacation. Saw our steward many times but had to ask if they did towel animals and by the third night was the first time we saw one on our bed. Children's activities - sparse. You could sign up for the NICKELODEON PAJAMA JAM that was only advertised on the restaurant placards and nothing more for $20 per person. This was the price of admission and breakfast but keep in mind, breakfast is free but not for this. Just like buying a ticket to movie if you are going with your child you pay full price. There were maybe 15 children in ages from infant to 12 or 13 but you do get a 1-on-1 photo opportunity with Dora, Diego, Sponge Bob, Sandy, The Last Airbender and 2 other characters I can't recall. Crafts consisted of coloring t-shirts or handkerchiefs with fabric markers, there is the arcade and the kids camp available too but not as much character sighting as I was hoping for given the Nickelodeon themed notion for the kids. Disembarkation - fast as when we got on. Only hold up was Customs but that is to be expected. Off the boat by 9:30a and home by 10:30a so this process was fast. Overall service - disappointing. Seemed to have some trouble communicating with guest services at time due to a language barrier and we spoke English but not sure they understood what we were asking. Can't say we felt welcomed by anyone. One bartender - Amalia - was the only one who seemed to make a point to want our business and ask how things were. Hubby had made friends with dealers in the casino but that was the extent of getting to know anyone. Never again for the amount of money spent would we go on another NCL cruise.   Read Less

Been on at least ten cruises all on Royal Caribbean. Norwegian was the Worst cruise I have ever been on. Ship was dirty, rusty needed lots of upkeep inside and out. Service was not what we were used to all the way around from dining room staff , cabin staff, casino staff. Food was mediocre at best. The service in the main dining rooms was terrible. Asking for a glass of ice water and actually recieving it turned into a joke after while. Staff all around were not friendly, could not speak good English or understand English. Multiple times did not receive adequate number of towels, ice in our ice bucket. Did not get cruise papers consistently. Excursions were okay-- Truilljo was terrible. It was dirty and poor and ridiculous. Our bus was slipping on the mud roads when we were returning from the resort. The resort was nice; food there was minimal and substandard. The tour guide we had for our tour of Truilljo had little to no knowledge and also spoke very broken English. Hard to understand; Was unable to do the complete tour due to disorganization of the tour guide and mismanagement of time. The mud roads on the way back were treacherous-- we were skidding and slipping. All aroudnd very disappointed in the cruise Not worth the money and will not recommend Norwegian ever. Also on this cruise a lot of older people using scooters. Hallways are very narrow-- waited one day for over 5 minutes for someone to get their scooter in their room-- annoying that I could not even get around this person. Really annoying in particular when I saw the same person walking poolside. Read Less

This was my first time to cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines and my last. I only cruised with them because my other cruise for the west coast got canceled. (Thank you Celebrity for not taking a chance on leaving cruisers stranded on a ship with problems). I booked a two bedroom family suite in "The Haven". Our suite was called the "Passion Flower Suite." The livind/dining room was spacious, but the decor was awful. The lime green sofa and chairs on a hot pink, purple and lime green carpetleft a lot to be desired. The main bedroom/bath was spacious, with plenty of storage and nicely finished out. Unfortunately, the pillow top bed was lumpy. The second bedroom was tiny. It was definitely for kids and not for an adult. The balcony was large with two comfortable chairs and tables. The screwy thing about the balcony, was the window overlooking the tub. You could not cover the window for privacy while you were in the tub. I appreciated the privacy and security our floor had. Your card had to be used to get the elevator to the 14th floor and to get through the access door to the staterooms. The private courtyard area included a pool, hot tub, saunas, and lots of comfortable seats to relax in. This was where we had breakfast most mornings. There was a continental breakfast there each morning. However, the attention to detail, cleanliness and service were not good. The stateroom services were slow and incomplete. The glass on our balcony and spots of something on the glass bathroom doors were never cleaned. Other areas ( under TV, phone, etc.) had not been dusted in a while. No white glove service here! When I asked the butler about dining in the room he showed me the standard room service menu. When questioned about the upgraded menu we were supposed to have, I was told we could order from the main dining room. Only one night did he bring us a menu and since I never got a piece of meat in the buffet or main dining room that wasn't tough or dried out, I didn't care to use it. Plan on eating at the specialty restaurants ($) for better food. Chin chin and Moderno ($) were good. Skip the Hibachi Grill restaurant, it's to noisy with four grills in one small room and the food is not the quality you expect from a speciality restaurant. Also, the extra fee you pay to eat at the Hibachi Grill, doesn't include the additional tips they request for the cook and extra waiter. The rest of the ship was fairly clean at a casual glance. What bothered me the most was the condition of the public restrooms. Every one I went into had a stall out of order. The sink countertops were always soaking wet. Paper towels littered the bathroom area. I realize this is the fault of my fellow shipmates, but it also showed that they did not get cleaned very often! Like I said, first and last cruise with Norwegian. I will stick with Celebrity Cruise Line!! Read Less

I spent many years (10+) saving for what I thought would be a dream vacation for me and my 15 year old son for a 7 day trip to the Bahamas. While booking I upgraded to a Balcony room and was advised that I would be in a smoke free enviroment, my dream was to have morning coffee at sunset on the balcony......huh what a joke as both my stateroom neighbors were extremem smokers, and I have severe ASMATHA, and did not travel with a nebulizer machine, only an inhaler, I was not able to use my balcony, as my neighbors lived on thiers, what a waste of alot of money. Next when I was viewing my the rooms online the wonderful video shows a great 19 inch flat screen, when booking i was told yes there would be a flat screen and a perked coffee machine in each state room, NOT. The TV in our room was so ancient, it was 13 inches or less and a dinosaur. The coffee in my room was a packet of instant with something to heat up water, hot pathetic for spending a 1000.00+ per person that I couldnt get perked coffee in my room or sit on my expensive balcony. The state room was smaller than what it appeared to be online. the Bathroom was adequate. Our steward was wonderful. The embarkemnt took forever out of NewYork. The food was okay. The service at the Azure was great by one particualr waiter. The recreational activiteies were a bore, they repeated themselves over and over, there was no rock climbing for my teen, no bowling, no movies, no comedy club, repeaded art lectures and auctions to get you to spend money. The shore excursions were the best part of the trip, more fun off the boat than on it! Then 24 hours upon return to the boat I attained a rash, I reported it to the front desk, and was told not to worry about it, or I could see medical for 180.00 dollars, WHAT?! SO I went to the crusie consultant who told me I probably got sand fleas and it would go away in 24 hours, it didnt go away until after I got home. NCL didnt care. When I came home on 12.23.12 I sat down and wrote all my complaints down, on 12.24.12 I composed a letter to customer relations and emailed them. It was recieved on 12.28.12, it is now 1/14/12, and I have called 5 or more times with no resolutions to my concerns. I am not a happy NOrweigan sailor. I await a resolution to my concerns, to top it off, durin my 3rd or 4th call, I learned my assigned case review was out sick on disability and no one was reviewing my concerns, how can I be happy with such poor customer service? I was on the norwegian jewel this month & encountered the rudest reception from guest svcs, tsar dining room servers & room svc personnel. On numerous occasions the room service personell didn't even pick up the phone despite several attempts. They took 45 minutes even to deliver a pitcher of water. There was constant noise in the staterooms due to electrical issues with the air conditioning or plumbing - I never found out which. The servers in the Tsar palace dining area were extremely rude, unfriendly and made us feel totally uncomfortable. the food was horrible, dining hours were terrible as well. Worst was the reception personnel - Extremely rude over the phone and also if you went to talk in person. I think they discriminate heavily between people from different nationalities - I witnessed it with my own eyes as to how two different people who had the same question were dealt with completely differently by the guest services person. It is truly sad to see this even in this day and age. I would strongly recommend against this ship in particular - don't know about the cruiseline in total as it was the first time I sailed with them and don't think I'd like to give them another shot. Horrible experience!!! Read Less
