After my DH initial cruise 40 yrs ago that consisted of me being sick for first 3 days in an inside cabin and DH getting ever sicker on the last 4 days of this honeymoon first time cruise, his position was never again. He stuck with it while I pursued cruising with my sister and family and loved it. I begged him to try again during those 40 yrs, but no, never again. Last year a neighbor mentioned this cruise and my DH said, let's go on that with them!! Not waiting for him to over think this, I quickly made reservation and he loved it. No seasickness. He loved the socializing, the bars, the anytime meal time. Has some mobility issues these days so shore time was minimal. Had everything possible just in case sea sickness came back, including prescription meds, wrist bands, OTC meds and made sure he took a RX pill every day for 3 days - never go sick and stopped taking them on day 4. We even had some rough water going to Costa Rica which woke him up so he could give me a pill, but never felt ill just sad we could dock because of weather conditions. The room was a mini suite that had everything we needed, coffee, TV, balcony, great location near elevator for him. Took about 2 days and he knew where everything was. I am a big casino fan, so that too was great and came out on the + side. We left on his birthday which helped getting over that hurdle. Embarkation was a little stressful to start with as he needed a wheelchair to get him on the ship and the wait took forever, but disembarkation was a pleasure. The room was always well tended, crew always available and friendly. It was such a great experience for him that he wanted to take another cruise! So I've booked us on another NCL out of Tampa for 7 days. He thought that was too long to wait - can you believe this? Now I have a cruise going in July on Princess followed in November with another NCL. So, yes, I'm very happy with the experience, with NCL and best of all I now have a DH who loves to cruise and it only took 40 years!!! Read Less

This was our first trip to Europe and my second time on a Norwegian Cruise. It was an incredible experience on both counts. The itinerary (Venice, Santorini, Mykynos, Olympia and Corfu) was the main reason we chose this cruise, as was the exceptional price. Embarkation was about average and slightly confusing, but just about everything was stellar after that. The room was ready upon our arrival and the service throughout the cruise was top notch. The passengers were a mix of people from all over. I would say that there were probably about 50% Americans, lots of Brits, several people from other European countries and small groups of people from just about everywhere else. The announcements were done in four different languages to accommodate the diversity. It was great! We purchased a dining package that gave us access to several of the add-on restaurants. The best, by far, was Le Bistro. I would skip Moderno. Cagney's was good, but you could easily get by without any additional costs for food and be perfectly happy. The best options are the for free dining are: 1. Grand Pacific - this is the best dining room. We ate here as soon as we embarked and avoided the crowds. It was great. They also ate here for breakfast and dinner and all of our meals were great. 2. Blue Lagoon - this was a cute little place where you could get a good burger, wings or a quick breakfast. It was way quieter and quicker when you were trying to get off the boat to get to shore and still get a decent breakfast or you just want a little taste of home (if you are American). 3. Jasmine Garden -- free Asian restaurant with lots of great options for both appetizers and main courses. 4. The Great outdoors -- when we went to the buffet, we always ate here. It was way more relaxing. Bars - for bars, try the flight of martinis at the martini bar -- super good and a great value. The entertainment on the ship was outstanding -- the Elements show blew us away. I have been on a dozen cruises and this was one of the best shows I have seen, as was the Beatles tribute band. The rooms were as expected and our cabin steward was great. The islands are beautiful. We did not book any shore excursions with the ship, so I cannot comment on that. They seemed pricey. We were able to do everything on our own for less (as we do on every cruise). If I had one complaint about the cruise, it is the process for handing out tender tickets. It was crazy. I am not sure I could come up with a better way to do it, but there were very long lines and if you didn't stand in one, you were pretty late in leaving the ship and getting to port. To sum it up, it was a relaxing and beautiful cruise. Being our first time in a European port, I was somewhat nervous that things would be confusing or challenging. It was not. We had an outstanding time and would not hesitate to book again on Norwegian even though we usually go with a different line. Read Less

Boarding the ship was the best and most organized I have had. When we got onto the ship we found our cabin to be larger that expected and we were very pleased. At the lifeboat drill I was quite disturbed when I saw a passenger carrying a small dog. I was actually shocked. I was unaware that Norwegian or any other cruise line for that matter, had started allowing pets on board. From talking to other passengers I think there were at least 3 dogs on the ship. I am very allergic to dogs and was glad that the only time I saw the dog was at the lifeboat drill. Where did it go to the bathroom? Even after a thorough cleaning, if there had been a dog in my cabin prior to this sailing I would have known it in a second and that would have made my cruise more than miserable. The Stardust theater entertainment and the band Ocean Vibe were very good. The rest of on board activities were, well just let me say lame for the most part. The "Dancing with the Jade Stars" and Karaoke contest male host was, for lack of a better description, kind of creepy. The activities themselves could have been done much, much better. There didn't seem to be any activities by the pool area that I can remember other than Ocean Vibe, which as I mentioned before were very good. I feel that there should be a place for adults to go without having to worry about kids after a certain hour. The Spinnaker Lounge should be like this but is not. There were children there until all hours of the night and I did not feel as though this is an appropriate place for kids under 18 at minimum after 9 or 10PM. Late at night, some of the crew freely mingled with the passengers in this lounge as well which I felt was odd. As far as communication, I found out after having my laundry done paying $93.00 that if you fill the bag, the crew will do your laundry for $25.00. This should be told to passengers clearly in the beginning, not 3 days out. I found out that I needed funds, where you can only get American funds from the ATM, on a morning in port when I found out to get the money I had to get it from the casino cashier. The casino was closed so I was unable to get the funds I needed. Fortunately I had enough on my credit card to get Euros from the front desk on my ship account. I never did get the funds from the casino and am disputing the transaction currently with my credit card company. The food on the ship was excellent. I had no problems with the waiter/waitress staff and enjoyed the freestyle dinner idea. We did not use any of the "pay for" places as we were very happy with the food we had. The hamburgers were the best on any ship I have been on to this point. I was a little disappointed that there was not a "midnight buffet" during the entire cruise. This has always been one of the things I look forward to. The cleanliness of the ship was excellent. There were people all over spraying sanitizer on passengers hands before entering any of the places where food was served. Thank you for that as I did see some ill passengers and we did not get sick. Thank you Rodney for the most excellent beer tasting activity. You are knowledgeable and picked out some very good beers, we had a blast. We did not use Norwegian for any of the port of call tours as they were just too expensive. I booked tours with outside companies prior and got 3 times the activities without been rushed or "herded" at a fraction of the cost. I still got back to the ship in plenty of time with every activity I did. Overall the cruise was a good value and the ports of call were amazing, we even got to see Stromboli erupting as we passed by. What a sight. I do not however feel as though I would use Norwegian Cruise line again. I have not used Norwegian since the mid 90's when I went on 2 cruises and found that they were much better than this cruise. Ref. NCL Jade 03 Jan 2010 During reservation I was told that by taken a certain category of cabins that I would automatically be upgraded to a better cabin, so instead of choosing interior cabin I chose a better cabin, with a granted upgrade, don't worry I did not receive it they told me that the ship is full, what a pile of crape. Also I reserved over 4 month ago when there was a special that if you reserve in advance you would receive a coupon book for discounts aboard (tell you the truth you need it because this has to be the most expensive ship I have ever travel on) so when I arrived in my cabin there were no coupon book in my cabin so I ask at the purser office and because I was not on the list of those that were entitle to receive this coupon book I will not receive it so twice reservation scrude me over. Other comments, there are over 6 paying restaurants aboard this ship so meals that are included are not of a great standard, that we find on other ship, that is to insight you to go and spend additional money, in the other restaurants, witch so far they have been very good as good as other ship with out having to pay for. Just to give you a example in the main dining room a shrimp cocktail consists on mini shrimps no more than a soup spoon in the Cagney dinning room they are over 3 to 4 inches long what a difference. Drinks aboard are quite expensive most martini are 8 or 9 dollars and even a fountain of Pepsi is 2 dollars not a bottle a fountain witch consist of maybe 5 oz of ice and 5 oz of Pepsi. After 8 days on ship. Well we are back from Cairo so far the only good thing I can say about this cruise is that the excursion are great probable it is because they are not done by NCL. The service is very bad, smiles are hard to get, and the ship is going through a diarrehea epidemic they are always disinfection the ship and our hand you can not go any were with out having to disinfect your hands, may be this is good but a minimum of 15 times a day get annoying. Well it going home day finally, all suites cases in the hallway and my final bill arrive but yes you guest it a surprise, my internet bill had a 24 dollars charge so I call the internet cafe and ask why this charge, they told me that I went over in my time so I ask how, when you open the internet service it ask you if you want additional minutes and I answered no I was going to run my time out and close my service automaticly, but no there was a fine print even if you say you do not want additional minutes you will be charged to you if you go over, good thing i closed my computer a haft hour later if not I would have been charged for the inter night even if I had not used it. But wait I thought no meant no, not no NCL I means more money. This is my cruise in conclusion bad service hard to get a smile very costly and they are always right, they should change freestyle for expensivestyle highwayroberystyle any thing but free. For the excursion most are very good it always depend on the Guides but they were mostly very good. Ncl Jade 03 Jan 2010 Read Less
