We had never been to Hawaii and thought this would be our chance to see the islands. The ship was very nice. The cabin was ok except for the bathroom. Toilet worked very intermittently and shower finally got fixed on FOURTH day of cruise. We were told by multiple people that the plumber kept getting redirected by somebody deciding if a working shower was important enough to get fixed. The dining facilities were all clean and provided tasty food. The oriental themed restaurant was excellent. Service and services were great except for our plumbing problems. The excursions were fun and reasonable. The ports allowed us to see way more of Hawaii than had we just flown in a visited a single island. We were surprised that the warehouses we disembarked through at the various ports were mostly empty. Other cruises we had been on had vendors selling locally made souvenirs. Read Less

We chose this ship and date because we had several friends who were also cruising at this time, and we have never been to Hawaii during the winter. This was our fourth trip to Hawaii, but the first time cruising. I really liked the ship because we found it very personable. We had a problem with the toilet backing up, however the staff was very attentive to the situation and eventually resolved the problem. We were in a suite and we really appreciated the personal attention provided by our Butler and Concierge This trip marked our 55th wedding anniversary, and we enjoyed our stay so much so that we are planning a future trip with our children, grand children and great-grandchildren. We had planned to book on board , but we were so involved in resolving the issue with the bathroom that we ran out of time before leaving the ship. Read Less

Just came back from a 7 day Hawaiian cruise with the Pride of America, here are my comments.... - Embarkation, I tried to check in around 12:30; yet, the staff insisted on carrying my luggage to my room while I refused. They insisted and I let them at the end. But as I walked up to my cabin, it wasn't ready yet. The staff could have mentioned it as the reason, perhaps? - Dinning room - I ordered 2 or 3 main entrees and asked for them to be appetizer size so that I can sample; but that didn't work. The food still come in a big portion. Other ships from other lines I was on were able to do that. Service sometimes are slow as it took me 1 1/2 hour to finish a dinner one time. Not that I was in a hurry, but I sat for a bit long. While you think this might have something to do with the number of entrees and appetizers I might have ordered, I can only say that same dinning room, sometimes it was fast and efficient while other times were at snail pace. Also, some waiters seemed indifferent about their clients. I am no king, just comparing to others in the same dinning room on the same ship, not even other cruise ships from other lines I was on before. - Aloha Cafe - saw food on the floor being kicked around a number of times for around 15 or so minutes before someone swept it off the floor. - Food in general - sometimes a bit salty. Had a clamless clam chowder. Wait, how come there was clam on the 1st night when I had the clam chowder but not on the 4th night? There were also a bug jumping out from my salad too. It escaped to no where real fast. - Room - no water in the middle of the night? And when there was water, it was luke warm? At times, the flush didn't function in the room. - Safety drill - I was out on an excursion after dropping off my bag on the ship. The safety drill took place when I wasn't there. Fine. Was wondering how come no one made an effort to ensure that I know what to do in the case of an emergency. While the above seemed negative, the overall experience in other areas weren't that bad at all. The above examples all happened only once, except for the water and flushing ones. It's just missing a bit here and there in a few corners. Average, not exceptional, but not disappointing either. For this itinerary, it's still worth using this product, in my opinion. Read Less

if u can't afford a balcony don't cruise. smallest cabins of any cruise line. smaller than holland america or princess inside cabin. bed 6" from wall. i am not claustraphobic. but when i entered cabin i ran and opened balcony doors to enlarge room. luckily there were abundant hangers in closet and a coffee maker embarkation chaotic: lined up for luggage tags; lined up to stow luggage. directed to table where medical forms were scattered - no forms - waited while staff got forms. lined up for security. over an hr wait. once past security greeted w/ lei and check-in went smoothly. usual wait for cabin over lunch. entertainment: first nite hawaiian dancers came on board and provided an authentic Hawaiian atmosphere. excellent entertainment 2 shows 7pm and 9 pm. that was first and last decent entertainment in hollywood theatre. skipped comedian and magic show so no comment. 2 bands performed. we walked out after 2nd song of ea -- really bad. -- second rate. performances so forgettable i forgot names. las vegas show had imitators. eg. elvis. sonny and cher. poor performances. most people have seen elvis impersonators -- this guy sucked. dining: food improved. but not as good as Epic Aloha buffet provided east indian food - very tasty - along w/ salad bar. fruit bar. carvery and hot entrees. 3 other complimentary restaurants on deck 5.w/ excellent service. in 'east is west' we ordered seaweed salad (we r from vancouver and enjoy oriental food) which arrived w/ tomato and mayo dressing. arg! same abomination as served on epic.last yr. when i spoke to mgr on epic i was told -- tuff. take or or leave it -- on the pride server happily brought us seaweed salad as it should be served and even offer second portions. no matter where we ate service was 5 star. free style dining not available. must make reservations for ALL restaurants and if i wanted a specific time reservations must be made 72 hrs. in advance. i am diabetic and eat at specific times so i like reservation system. but it is not for everyone, a crew member advised pride going into dry dock in 2018 where it will be cut tin half in order to add more restaurants and shops. cabin sizes won't change. activities: this ship is for families, painting classes. arts and crafts incl lei making. hula lessons. trivia. clubs for children and teens. library only open 2 hrs afternoon and 2hrs evening. ship not geared to seniors. swimming pool area had a band playing badly at deafening decibels -- so much for sitting in the sun and reading. i really needed a balcony. no lectures i would cruise on pride again because of the itinerary. only cruise that leaves from Oahu and overnights on maui and kuai as well as visiting hilo and kona on the big island. HAL, Princess, Celebrity etc. cruise out of LA and San Diego, therefore, spend 5 days at sea b4 cruising hawaii Spa: small no thermal suite Disembarkation. chaotic. advised of tag system as usual, but no tags sent to room. had to line up at customer service we walked off w/ luggage so it did not effect us, but not well organized. We thought this was the best way to see the islands and we were not disappointed. Our balcony stateroom was great. Very clean and our steward, Putu was very accommodating. The food was great in all the restaurants was great. The staff was very friendly and there a lot of great activities. Jamie, the cruise director and her staff were fabulous. We could not of asked for anything better. Our excursions were all good but two were especially great. The excursion- Best of Kauai was the best of the trip but the ship was great and it was the best way to see all of the islands. We did miss Kona on this trip. The waves were just too high to tether and take the little boats in. Again the ship did a great job of adding extra activities for the day. We really thought this cruise was a not too be missed one. The good.................................... Food in the dining rooms was very good, especially liked the Liberty. Also dined at Teppanyaki, Jefferson Bistro and Cagney’s. Only did the Specialty dining because it came with our purchase at Costco. The Specialty dining was good, but the Aloha(morning buffet), Skyline and Liberty completely met our needs. Coffee is available early at 0530 in the Gold Rush Saloon. Ate once at Cadillac and liked it. Great service and attitude on the part of the staff/crewmembers. No sign of random rudeness mentioned in other reviews. Cabins were clean and comfortable. We had a balcony and really liked it. Cabin 9568 is a great location. Entertainment was very good most nights, but didn’t care for the first night that well. Embarkation went smooth. Disembarkation was handled well. We were allowed to stay on the ship until 0845 or so. Our flight did not leave until 6:00PM. There is Luggage Storage in the Cruise Facility that allows you to store a piece of luggage for $5 for the entire day. We then did a walking tour of old Honolulu and Chinatown which are a 10 minute walk from the cruise terminal. Especially interesting is the Aloha Clock Tower one block from the Terminal. Take the elevator to the 10th floor and you get a great view of the Honolulu area, the Cruise ship, and other sights. Cruise Sights. I can’t think of a better way to see the islands. The cruise is basically a floating hotel, restaurant and entertainment facility. Excursions. We did not take any of the Excursions that came with the cruise. Instead we rented a car and saw all of the same sights for about 70% less. Example, Road to Hana, a tour costs $169/person. My wife and I rented a car for $57(that includes gas and insurance). Same deal in all of the other islands. Also, each car rental company has a shuttle that meets you at the cruise terminal and returns you to the ship at the end of the day. In Maui, on our second day, we took the city bus to the west side of the island for the day, cost us $10 each. Pick up the bus next to Macy’s in the shopping center 1.2 miles from the cruise terminal. There is no bus station there, but a lady in a yellow jacket sitting on a chair sells the tickets. Disappointments 1. Our Kona stop was cancelled due to high seas. I do not fault NCL for this. However, our Captain said we would instead cruise by Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and Oahu on our way to Kauai. This did not happen. He got to within 5 miles of our first island, then went 30 miles out to sea away from all islands, and did not explain why he did this. 2. My biggest disappointment was I assumed that we would cruise to within a mile or 2 of the coast of all these islands, and we would sit on our balcony and enjoy the scenery. We did not!!! We were always 5-7 miles from coast so the islands were mostly a blur in the distance, especially Kauai, one of the most beautiful islands on the planet. An exception was the Na Pali coast where he kept 2 miles offshore, still too far away. Very, very disappointing. Read Less

So I was really nervous after reading the reviews about this cruise. It was booked, and we were going, but I was getting increasingly worried that it was not going to be a good, or even tolerable cruise, based on the scathing reviews. Glad I tried it out for myself. This was my first time with NCL. I have been on 5 other cruises with Royal and Carnival. We did an 11am transfer arranged by NCL from the Marriott Hotel (also arranged by NCL) and were shocked when we arrived at the cruise port, checked in, and literally walked right onto the ship. I have never been able to walk on a ship without waiting, especially when arriving early. This was the first of many times where we went to get off of the ship and simply walked on and off of the ship at ports, disembarkation, etc. It was weird. We never once waited in line. We never felt like it was crowded. It consistently felt as if there weren't many people on board, although the dining rooms were always full. Speaking of dining, we chose to dine at the La Cucina and Cagneys specialty restaurants for two nights, the dining room for 3 nights, and off the ship for the other 2. We had reservations for all of them ahead of time and NEVER had to wait. People without reservations WAIT. Easy fix, just make a reservation. La Cucina restaurant was okay. Food was good but nothing super memorable. Service was excellent. Cagneys was excellent. The dining room (Liberty - more formal) was also good. Our party overall really liked everything that was served - and I was with some pretty picky eaters. Maybe one dish was so-so but nothing worth complaining about when the rest of the food was very good. After reading the reviews you would think that the staff was horrid on this ship. I have to speak to the contrary - the guy who did the Marvel trivia was SO friendly and nice. Colton was another staff member who did trivia and was again very friendly. Dining staff was efficient and kind. We did not see our cabin steward until several days into the cruise, but never needed him, as the room was impeccably cleaned every day. The coffee bar girls - again very pleasant. Waitstaff at the bars never gave us attitude when we didn't order drinks, and were happy to bring us waters, etc without any waiver a smile. Our balcony cabin was small as most cruise rooms are, but no smaller than other lines. Our suitcases fit under the bed easily and we never had any concerns regarding the space. We did 3 excursions, Crater Hike and Akaka Falls in Hilo, Kauai Jungle Falls kayak and hike, and post cruise to pearl harbor with a drop off at the airport. We were scheduled to do the Kona Mocha tour, however were unable to go to Kona secondary to the weather (unsafe to tender). Crater Hike is STRENUOUS. Take the walking sticks if offered. Don't go if you have physical conditions that will prohibit you from walking down steep ares, across uneven surfaces, and uphill on uneven surfaces. We are active and it was HARD but so much fun. Just know that there are easier options. Jungle falls is beautiful, the rocks are SLIPPERY, there is a ton of mud, there are a ton of rocks in the waterfall area if you swim. Bring hiking shoes/water shoes. The other days we rented cars which was very easy! In Maui we used Alamo (would not recommend because they do not have a shuttle and cab cost 20 per way) for the first day and then Budget (shuttle, yay!) the second day. We also rented a car in Kauai through Alamo who had a shuttle which was prompt. Overall, the cruise was really fun. People can find lots of things to complain about, but I don't believe that it is warranted for this ship. Its a cruise (basically a floating hotel with this itinerary) - you are getting to see SO many places in hawaii - drinks are going to be expensive - just know that going in so you are not surprised and have a great time! Our trip to Hawaii was the first for both of us. We chose the cruise tour to get the best bang for the buck! NCL pre and post cruise info was smooth. Be sure to go to the Skyline and Liberty for breakfast and dinner, so nice to sit down and be waited on! We booked excursions at every port, drivers of buses kept us informed. Leo was the first driver we had in Honolulu, he was great! Outstanding was Travis on the road to Hana, we all had such a good time. We sang, he sang, very informative. Pam at the Aloha Cafe' was a hoot. She enjoyed her job and great attitude. Tamara was our cabin Steward, she made of welcome on the first day. This was my first cruise on NCL, I would book another cruise. We met and made friends with several people on our tours! Read Less

This is only cruise I have been on (out of at least 10 cruises) that you could stave to death. Always running out of food. Very hard/impossible to find coffee for breakfast! Recommend Cadillac diner for breakfast (open 24/7) - they have coffee and refill your cups! Jerry was a great waiter. Easy on/ easy off; ship well maintained. Entertainment/shows standard ship stuff. Crew show was VERY good. They have a talented crew! Recommend Only cruise ship that sails only in Hawaii - i.e., no competition and it shows but great way to see the state! Cabins OK - Stewards are great.. Book your own shore excursions from local folks, not via the ship. Exception is Directors cut and road to Hana ship tours. Don't expect to stop at Kona as this is a tendered port and rough seas usually make this port not possible. Skip ship luau and go to Chief's Luau in Honolulu Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. Cabin (138 sq ft) was way too small; balcony was big, but the dividers were solid right to the rail, so had to lean out for a view ... which was less than ideal. Dining - Food was outstanding in the free dining rooms! Great selection. Delicious. Also went to the Japanese restaurant and it was very good too ... but not better than the free dining rooms. Beverages - Overpriced! Gratuities - 20%! The service crew in the bars and lounges on Pride were outstanding and worth 20% ... but we've done 16 or 17 other cruises and the service on this cruise was well better than any we've experienced previously, so do not think all ships will be at this level. If the 20% is the line standard, it's too high. Embarkation and Debarkation - effective, fluid, fast! Great job Norwegian! Public rooms - too cold! Totally understand need to keep temps down to minimize germs, but when long sleeves and sweaters or jackets are required to be comfortable, it's just too cold. Moderation please. Fitness and Recreation - gym had a few of treadmills, some ellipticals and some others plus a few free weights. No space to stretch after a workout. Not easy to find without going out onto the deck. Service - outstanding! Everyone was helpful, cheerful, and ready to go the extra mile for the passengers! Read Less
