This was my first cruise, so I was uncertain as what to expect. I've traveled to many all inclusive resorts, so was a little apprehensive at the thought of being on a ship for 5 days. I was NOT disappointed, and discovered that the two cannot be compared, because each has their charm! After reading some of the reviews from folks who were on the same trip as us, I must say how surprised I am with the negative reviews...were they actually on the same ship??? Embarkation day - The staff were smiling and happy and greeted us with enthusiasm! There was music and dancing and energy, what more could you ask for! The sail away party was awesome, Jacky Tang is a PHENOMENAL Cruise Director, and he made sure you were entertained! Alex, the Assistant Cruise Director was charming, sassy and all around spectacular as well. Day 1 - Key West - We did a lot of research before our trip, so we knew exactly what to do when we arrived. Getting off and back on the ship was simple and organized. I highly recommend Kermit's for key lime pie, and Sloppy Joes for their Conch Cakes and atmosphere. Day 2 - At Sea - weather was a little wet, but the cruise line has no control over that. The entertainment crew made sure you had LOTS to do! Day 3 - Harvest Caye, Belize - wow. We did the Mayan Ruin and Spice Farm tour. Our tour guides were incredible, funny and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this tour. Day 4 - Costa Maya, Mexico - there was so much to see at the port, we ended up renting a cabana for the day and just soaking it all in. The cabana cost $30USD, and with that you get a huge pot of guacamole, chips and 2 (non alcoholic) beverages. The pool has a swim up bar, and is alongside the ocean. There's music playing everywhere. We did do a bit of shopping...the locals are a little pushy, and not afraid to try and get you to go to their shops...we just smiled and said thank you and kept walking if we were not interested, and they left us alone for the most part. Day 5 - At Sea - what a wonderful way to wind down and enjoy the last full day on the ship. Entertainment Staff - cannot say enough fantastic things about Jacky and Alex, and their team. The comedian, Jay, was hilarious, we saw all 3 of his shows and were NOT disappointed. The illusionist, Lord Nil, was awesome - we thought his first 2 shows were hokey, however, the final performance on day 5 was SPECTACULAR! The dancers and singers were amazing as well. The ship was not smooth sailing, so for them to be able to dance and balance was very impressive...I was sober the entire trip and could not walk a straight line to save my life, so the fact that these performers were able to look amazing was awesome. The 80's trivia was hilarious, (with the exception of the VERY drunk woman who stripped and harassed a few people throughout the night, and her aggressive daughter who participated in the trivia, and may have cheated a bit...). Bingo was fun, general trivia games were fun...to sum it up...there is no shortage of things to do on this ship - if you're bored, that's on you. Food - HAPPY HAPPY WASHY WASHY! I'm a very picky eater, the food was amazing. The wait staff were attentive, professional, informative and polite. We found that they always went above and beyond to make sure our experience was fantastic. Hospitality staff - our room attendant was Aleandro - nothing short of phenomenal. Our room was made up and turned down beautifully every day, and the towel animals were beyond impressive. To sum it up - we were overwhelmed with how amazing everything was - we cannot stop talking about it! They pay attention to the little details, and that's what made this trip for us. We have nothing to complain about, at all - our needs were always met, the service was above expectation, and we will definitely be cruising with NCL again...we're already planning our second trip! Executive Staff - they were always visible throughout the ship and always engaged with everyone! Read Less

I couldn't ask for a better experience for my first cruise, which traveled from Miami, to Cuba to Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas and back to Miami. The entertainment as non-stop, the food above expectations and the service tremendous. The shows and comedian were enjoyable. I also took in trivia, karaoke, Deal or No Deal and Salsa dancing. We ended each night at Dazzles for drinks and dancing. I took the classic car tour in Havana, and would recommend that as well. I had read about renting cabanas in the Bahamas for $300. I did not rent and in my opinion there is plenty of shade if needed, and you can rent clam shells over two chairs for only $35. I spent a decent amount of time in the water. The multiple pools and hot tubs allowed plenty of space. They never seemed over-crowded. I would definitely choose Norwegian Sky again. Read Less

We stayed a night earlier at the Marriott Waterfront The porter walked our luggage over and they processed our luggage right away AWESOME Overwhelmed with anticipation being our first cruise ever but The Bliss Crew and Captain put all those fears away. Being on such a massive ship with over 6 thousand people we did not know what to expect . The embarkment and disembarkment were smooth and fast. The instructions were easy to understand and follow. The lay out of the ship made it easy to get around and you never felt overcrowded. Entertaining was awesome with a wide arrangement to please everyone. The instructions for exiting for the excursions were very well planned and easy to follow. Staff was everywhere to direct you. The cabin was classic, (Mr Fernando was the best)the food was awesome,(that is saying a lot being we are from New Orleans lol) The complimentary meals at Savor, Taste and Manhattan were simply fabulous. The entire staff was amazing (Happy Happy Smiley Smiley)and the captain’s navigation skills kept us calm and secured. Thanks NCL for giving first time cruisers the time of their life. We celebrate 44 years of Marriage and we are glad we chose to celebrate it on this magical ship. Read Less

First Cruise for us , so cant compare. We have been all inclusive Resorts in the past and should have stuck with this. We found the cruise to busy , hectic and extremely expensive . Having only about 10 to 12 hours at each port really does not give you the time to explore, and so excursions are in order , on the boat with Norwegian this will cost you your first born . After joining a tour bus twice at prices from Norwegian our budget was dwindling quickly. Tours were just fine but you are left tired and feeling ripped off , we did. In Naples not willing to spend $320.00 US per person for another tour we decided to check what was available on the pier and found Taxis that offered much the same for a fraction of the cost on board, this you can find in all ports For $280 Euro we ended up with our own minivan and driver , we could have waited for another couple or two to share this with bringing cost down half or to a third as Van could sit 6 but decided that we would do this by ourselves. This day was great , our driver adjusted to what we needed wanted to see and basically told us he was ours for the next 10 hours , Amalfi coast was beautiful , but what a tourist trap lol . Cabin was on deck nine with a balcony and we where surprised with the size of it and the huge amount of closet space . not good was the kitchen exhaust close by and so greasy smell was especially in port very strong and a let down . Food was great on board , bars could not have been better , staff was great . For us this boat was to large and to stand in line for like everything was not in our plans . Deck 15 buffet was packed in the am with no seats unless you wait and jump as soon as someone leaves. Restaurants i found all great and to my surprise most except 2 have no dress code , this worked for me as i did not pack any jackets or dress shirts . Shows were well done and who needs a casino , this was to large by far. Biggest item for me is the fact that i bought a watch on board regular $320.00 US now for $180.00 US , GREAT RIGHT , what a good deal until i came home and find it for 120 Canadian , so BUYER be aware , or simple don't get anything on board. Drink package was a must for us and well worth it , the Martini bar was fantastic , never busy and so was Whisky bar , both on same level with the smoking room and Deck right there . Would i do this Cruise again , i don't think so, i needed a vacation after just to get some sleep , then again sleeping was not an issue on board not after the amount of walking we did . Hope this helps a bit Read Less

This was my first cruise................I am now hooked. Sitting on the balcony with my honey watching the water kiss the ship was as soothing as anyone can imagine. The food was fantastic (Best Lamb Chops that I have had in decades) and the drinks matched my mood perfectly. I wanted to take the Spa home with me. I'll be back soon. The show entertainment was surprisingly top drawer and well worth the cost. The talent was top rate, the setting was unexpectedly professional. The music by the pools and through out the ship was performed by really talented musicians and singers and was a nice touch to a great experience. The service staff was consistently caring and attentive and I was made to feel as if everyone cared about us. The photographs taken by the ship's photographers were consistently well done and will be a forever reminder of a special week in our lives. Read Less

The Norwegian Breakaway’s 7-day trip from New York City began up to par with expectations and appeared to set the bar high in regards to efficiency in feeding and assisting the 4,000 passengers that embarked on December 29th. This was my and my boyfriend’s first cruise, so we greatly appreciated the efficient check-in process that the Norwegian crew provided, and they were extremely helpful in answering our questions once aboard. From then forward, we had an extremely satisfactory initial first days of the cruise, and embraced Norwegian’s Freestyle Cruising and laid-back atmosphere. In addition, the wait staff as well as our stewardess were particularly helpful and personable. The itinerary of the fifth cruise day included a visit to Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s island, but we were informed that we would be unable to attend the island due to poor water conditions (the impending storm, Grayson, which we were not informed of). However, passengers were already at the island location, and they were immediately transported off the island by the crew. The itinerary of that day was hindered by the change of plans, ushering passengers to instead loiter around the ship, offering limited activity options, though this was understandable due to the focus of crew/passenger safety. We were obviously disappointed from the loss of the day, but safety, as the Captain mentioned, was priority. From then onward, though the Captain muttered about the importance of safety and precautions, he sailed us straight into Grayson. From this point forward, it was a complete and utter disaster on the ship. Most elevators were shut off to conserve power, leaving a large population of elderly and families to brave the 15 floors of stairs, or to shove into a single elevator. Being young and thankfully able-bodied, this did not impact me, but I witnessed the struggle of other fellow passengers. Elderly had to be held upright, taking breaks on each stairwell and cling to the rails of the ship. We witnessed passengers constantly vomiting, or diving into bathrooms to vomit. Each stairwell had on it a set of complementary vomit bags. This happened for two days straight, however, on the “up” side we were given $23 a person for essentially missing one of the three main trip locations (on a side note, the 14- day cruise following ours received an apology for their inconvenience AND a refund of one day for their itinerary, but we have received not word nor compensation though we essentially lost the vast majority of our cruise to the Captain’s poor choice to brave Grayson). Any and all belongings on the mirror and cabinets were thrown across the floor, and many passengers and their children were forced to sleep on the Atrium floor (next to a late-night bar) due to two inches of water, there appeared to be no vacant rooms for emergency situations. This was a complete and unnecessary disaster that was endured at the expense of Norwegian Breakaway’s passengers for the sake of staying on schedule and ensuring profit. The most unnerving situation was not the storm itself, but the intent of upper management in their behavior to keep passengers as ignorant and confused as possible. This was best displayed by the final night of the cruise (the 4th of January) when the Captain announced at approximately 6pm that we would be disembarking and arriving to NY port at 4pm instead of 8am. Due to the mass amounts of passengers that fly/have travel plans (as most do), this caused a urgent rush and need to use the phone services and internet. We hurried to the Guest Services desk, only to be directed to stay where we are, that there was a phone at the front desk that I assume all of the guests were expected to use. As we waited, another crew member directed myself and others to a small computer lab of about five computers, said we were free to use them and that there is no phone available, and essentially shrugged her shoulders and left the situation. I once again asked for access to the phones, but we were shrugged off once again. Masses of people were now panicking and urging crew members for assistance. Instead of waiting for the promise of a phone (which appeared nonexistent) we trekked back to our stateroom and instead used our stateroom phone. Due to the panic I witnessed from those with complex travel arrangements, I could see that once again, my situation was not as dire due to that I had no flight arrangements, and I did not want to take any time from those that could be assisted and use the phone/ computer services. Immediately after calling my concerned mother as well as arranging new travel arrangements, I had accumulated approximately $24 in phone calls, being that the charge for utilizing your stateroom phone is $4.99 a minute. Once the crowd cleared and things settled down, I approached Guest Services once again. I spoke to a Service Manager who appeared irritated from the start, and I asked if there was a difference in expenses to the ship itself whether I utilized my stateroom phone or the phone they had offered. She stated that it did not cost the ship any additional cost that I used my stateroom phone. I explained that I did not want to get in the way of those who truly needed the phone for true emergency purposes, but I asked if I could be given a credit for the amount charged for the phone call. She responded that no, I would not be. Then said if I had any suggestions to manage/service 5,000 people, to give them to the office. To this snarky comment, I said that I did not appreciate that the crew was informed to keep guests ignorant to the change in disembarkation from 8am to 4pm (a fact which I had found out from another crew member, who stated they were threatened that they had to keep this confidential or face disciplinary action) she immediately was taken aback, and gave me the full refund for the phone call, along with an apology for the inconvenience. I am wholeheartedly disappointed with my experience with the Norwegian Breakaway and its management, and I am requesting a refund for my party. The focus of other cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean in avoiding the storm in a similar situation, proves the priorities of Norwegian Cruise Lines to not be safety of passengers, but revenue at the expense of what could have been its passengers/crew’s lives and dignity. My wife and I were talked into the 7-Day Western Caribbean Norwegian cruise on the Getaway by another couple. We were skeptical of cruises for no rational reason, but we decided to give it a try because our friends were so pumped about it. WOW, this cruise changed our opinions forever, and we're hooked on cruises now. I can't speak for the other lines, but Norwegian was incredible. The entire staff with whom we interacted was so genuinely nice and accommodating. The ship itself is beautiful and had the feel of a floating city because it is so big. The food was out of this world (and the choices were seemingly endless), the entertainment was high-class (Burn the Floor and the Cirque show were mesmerizing), and the excursions were super fun! The cruise director, Silas, was engaging and seemed intent on everyone having fun. He was everywhere, and he greeted guests as we returned from each excursion. The ship kept a perfect schedule, and everything went smoothly logistically. One caveat is we stayed in "the Haven" which is their section of top-of-the-line suites, so our experience is biased. Not that the other level cabins were bad by any stretch (our friends were in a mini suite, and they loved it), but the Haven suites are simply awesome, so we decided we can't ever do a "normal" cabin :-) We had a concierge and 24/7 butler, both of whom were essential to our planning and overall fun experience. We've been back for 2 days, but my wife and I can't go an hour without lamenting it's over. It was the best vacation ever, and we're already looking to book the next cruise. Read Less

We were originally scheduled on the Eastern route, but due to Hurricane Irma it was shuffled to the Western route. This was fine with us as it was our first cruise ever and hadn't been to these ports either. Everything was top notch. Our cabin exceeded our expectations for what we were expecting since most people describe ship cabins as small. There would be a 3rd person option in our cabin and I think that would have pushed it just past the level of comfort that we felt. The size of the bathroom was awesome and that is generally the improvement you get when going from a balcony room to the "mini-suite". Drinks were great, food was great (but we're pretty easily pleased and by no means "foodies"). On board entertainment was great. If you have the opportunity to see the comedian juggler--that was our favorite! Staff was friendly and attentive. No complaints at all! We were so impressed that we have already booked our next cruise on Norwegian! Read Less

The title is misleading but here are the first time items, First time on a re positioning cruise – loved it, more planning is involved but opens up new ports to travel to. First time on the Jade. Was similar to the Gem but they swapped the shopping area and the Bliss lounge. Loved where the Bliss is on the Jade but they had reduced the liquor area in the store. First time as a Platinum – more perks !!! free laundry ( first time ), free meals, inside ship tour ( first time ) and free internet ( thought I heard a modem in the back round – reallll slow ). First time to the ABC islands. Bonaire – small island, beaches are rocky, flamingos but if into diving this is the place to go. Aruba – shopping and casino's ( found half of the ships crew inside one ), really didn't feel safe outside the shopping area. Curacao – nice beaches, felt safe to walk into town but don't get caught on the floating bridge when a ship approaches the harbor, you may be there for awhile. First time on independent tours – Bonaire, Bonaire Vista tours excellent. Curacao, Irie tours will work with you and will give a group discount. They are both listed on TripAdvisor. First time with a resort day pass, Jamaica – Jewel Dunn's River resort in Ocho Rios excellent but watch your glass, seems like they needed more and if they found one laying around it was gone. First time writing a review. We had a great time on the Jade, crew was happy about getting away from the cold and being back in Caribbean. The ship itself was in great shape, although there was toilet issues. Was surprised that O'Sheehan's didn't have a special night and that you couldn't have snacks at the bar. Punta Cana stop was a nightmare for some. Tendering process was slow, seas real rough. Read Less

This was my 1st cruise ever. I received a voucher for an inside cabin from the casino where I am a rewards member. A friend recommended NCL so I decided to accept the offer. I paid additional to upgrade to a balcony cabin. I also purchased a soda package and three shore excursions through the cruise line. To begin with, the embarkation in NOLA was a complete mess. No one to assist you with questions, extremely long lines and wait time. Our check-in was between 12 & 12:30 PM. We finally got checked in and were able to board around 3:30 PM. Due to the extremely long wait to embark, I was unable to eat lunch. After boarding the ship I began to have a diabetic low. I went straight to the 24 hour O'Shea's to get something to eat but was told they would not serve me because the muster drill was about to start. I could not get any of the NCL staff to assist me in providing either juice, soda with sugar, or something with sugar or high carbs (such as candy or crackers) because the muster drill was starting. I asked at least 15 staff members to assist me and was told instead that I had to attend the muster drill. Finally, when I was shaking so bad that I had to sit down in the floor, one crew member realized what was happening and brought me a glass of orange juice to drink. Due to a medical condition I requested additional pillows and egg crate foam mattress cover for bed in cabin from special services in February after booking. Was assured that my request would be fulfilled. When we arrived at our cabin, there were no extra pillows or foam mattress cover. Went to Guest Services 3 times and asked for my request to be fulfilled. Nothing! We finally met our Cabin Steward and he was able to fulfill our request for the extra pillows, but we never received the foam mattress covers. I asked to speak with then Guest Services Manager to discuss the service issues and was told by the Guest Services desk rep that the manager was on the way to my cabin. The Manager never showed up to speak with me throughout the entire cruise. Service from the wait staff was terrible. Spent a lot of time either waiting on our food to be served, or trying to get a soda refill. Staff was more interested in selling you additional stuff than in providing you with what you had already purchased. In fact, service was so poor for the entire cruise that I requested that my prepaid gratuities be refunded. Dining was not a pleasant experience. Food was bland and unseasoned, either over cooked or under-cooked, and choices were limited. Bread was completely inedible. Had the consistency and taste of hard tack. Service was terrible. There were some tasteful deserts. Ship elevators were slow for the entire cruise. Ended up taking the stairs 90% of the time while on the cruise. Shore excursions were good and well worth the money spent. Enjoyed shopping in each of the scheduled ports. Entertainment in the Stardust Theater was also good. We enjoyed a variety of different shows. Over all, for a vacation that I planned and looked forward to for so long, the cruise left much to be desired. I will be cruising again, but definitely not on NCL. Nor will I recommend NCL to my friends and family. Read Less

Did a last minute booking on NCL Pearl to Alaska. This was my first time cruising and enjoyed most parts of the experience. -- I had booked a balcony cabin, which was fairly good size. Even though they claim it can accommodate 4 people, I found it appropriate for 2 adults and 2 kids (definitely not 4 adults). Room amenities were standard and nothing is included the prepaid packages, Enough luggage and drawer space. -- Dining was bit of a challenge for me (believe it or not!). I did not try any speciality restaurants. They have two dining halls which serve exactly same dinner menu, so doesn't matter where you eat. Food options were rather limited if you have special dietary requirements. The buffet got old real soon, as only one or two counters had meatless options. -- Entertainment shows were DEFINITELY dated !! They had some singer going ga-ga over 50s and 60s songs, the angels provided mellow / calm performance instead of high energy performance they had shown during opening night. All in all, you may not enjoy these shows if you are under 50 -- Plenty of options for Shore Excursions, though admittedly pricy. I decided to take one at each port of call and only one was bust. The shore excursion staff was always helpful, and mostly smiling (depending on who you talk to). Missed behind the scenes tour, but at $80 I heard it wasn't that good Overall, I may consider going on Pearl again ... but definitely want to explore more options with other cruise lines. Read Less

Chose a cruise from Venice that stopped at Santorini, Athens, Ravenna and Dubrovnik as we have never been to any of these destinations. Our cruise didn't go to Santorini or Ravenna so not a great start, we got offered $100 each. Most of the other couples we spoke had not been offered anything. Please bear in mind that when you book your specific cruise you might not actually go there and they reserve the right to change it at anytime! The freestyle dinning was just mental, typical wait if you shared was 45 mins to get a seat. If you wanted a table for 2 it would take an hour! Once you got seated the service was good but slow. Typically we would head out at 7pm and it would be after 10:00 before you got your finished! We booked all inclusive but found it to be a bit of an oxy-moron as you still had to pay for coffee, water and a list of many other things. Th advert said that all inclusive also included ALL service charges, tips and gratuities but NCL still tied (very hard) to charge us. We were on the 4th floor and it was horrendous, very noisy as this was the main level for getting on and off at each port. There was a hive of activity constantly going on. Add to this the 50 billion (honestly, no exaggeration) announcement from Tom the bloody cruise direction then you get the idea. The trips onshore were really expensive and hundreds of pounds each, it felt that NCL were constantly trying to rip you off and we also had to check everything. Shame. The service from the staff was mixed from down right rude to fab. I found the staff in the trash bar to be rude but the guys who look after your room were fantastic. The entertainment in the main theatre was really good but this was only 45mins once a day. There was a live band with the worst singer in the planet that popped up everywhere. The cocktails and the red wine where fantastic but glad we had a drinks expensive as prices were highly inflated. Food was good, not great, never bad but not as good as I thought it was going to be. The market cafe buffet were you can just grab a plastic plate and help yourself was exactly like school dinners. It was also the noisiest place on the ship, maybe even the planet! This was our first cruise that we booked and we will never ever cruise again. Constant noise, massive queues, never got to see our chosen destinations, naff entertainment and bloody tom the cruise director are the main reasons. Read Less

First time cruise for our 25th anniversary and we chose the Epic after researching a few different ships. This one had a 2 night stay in the Montblanc hotel in Barcelona. Booking in - This took about 45 min from arrival at the cruise port. Remember your Credit card (a debit card comes with a £300 deposit). You will be issued with your cruise card here which is used for drinks, entertainment, bookings and any purchases. Stateroom - We had an inside stateroom. They are not big but well designed and come with plenty of storage. Shower gel and shampoo supplied. The bed was large and comfy and we really had no complaints with the room. The website explains the size so it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Food - We ate mostly in the huge Garden Bar buffet restaurant on the top deck. It catered for every taste, food was plentiful and fresh. It has some great views over the front of the ship and was nice eating there when the ship was leaving port. There are plenty of other restaurants on the ship, We also recommend the TASTE one. It has table service and a great menu to choose from. Sheehans bar was also well used for lunch time snacks from their grill. Entertainment - This was outstanding. A wide range of acts to suit all tastes. We managed to see most of them during our weeks stay. I recommend Burn the Floor, Graffiti Artists and The Epic Beatles. Howl at the Moon was good however its 4 hours and got a bit monotinous after a while, the Italian signer let them down a bit as well but they are still worth a visit. Drink - We had the ultimate beverage package. The choice of drinks were excellent and top quality. All cocktails were freshly made and well presented. My only complaint were the number of bar staff at the busy bars. Sheehans sometimes had only 2 barpersons and when they're making cocktails it slows things down. All bars have waiter service which is a quicker was of getting served. Pool area - Deck 15 is where the pools and slides are. This was a huge are with 3 small pools, 8 hot tubs, 2 slides and a whirlpool. Even when this was busy there were always sunbeds available and we enjoyed a couple of days up there.Large bar and plenty of food available also. Ports - Didn't enjoy Naples as its a bit of a dump. There's almost to much to do in Rome to do it properly in the time you have. Its also a 2 hour trip from the boat if doing it yourself. Cannes was stunning and well worth the trip. Remember to book your tender early also try the train tour situated at the port. Staff - cant fault the staff at all. Always smiling and helpful. They clearly work hard and long shifts. Downsides - Even with all the drink available you still have to buy a decent coffee (the machine coffee at each bar is awful) this should be included in your package. The bars need more staff especially at busy times. The excursions are way over priced, its worth booking these yourself through Cruise excursions.WiFi is non existent unless you are willing to pay 29 dollars per day for it, even the Iconcierge wasn't working for a number of passengers. Be prepared to leave the ship at about 0630 on your leaving day. Tips - if any of the shows show that they are fully booked its worth turning up for the standby, we never attended 1 show which was totally full. Catch up with WiFi at a cafe in each port. Overall it was a great ship, huge, we would def go back again. Read Less

Chose this as our 1st cruise primarily based on the price and itinerary. We loved it. Cabins are comfortable with plenty of storage and I really don't see the fuss over the design The food was good..buffet not our favourite but perfectly acceptable for a quick and convenient meal..both MDRs very pleasant with good food(maybe a little repetitive), good service and a nice atmosphere. Also ate in O'Sheehans with a nice lovely atmosphere and decent American style food. We had the UBP and were spoilt for choice with drinks. Lots of beers to choose from including a few craft ones, a good wine choice and more cocktails than I've even heard of. All the spirits were also branded ones. The pool area is probably the weakest point. The slides are good fun for the kids and there are plenty of hot tubs but the main pool is a bit small and there was a bit of a fight for sun loungers (although no worse than an average Spanish hotel) The entertainment is the best bit. There's always multiple things going on at once so it's easy to find something that suits. Particular credit needs to go to the main shows(I'd say one step below West end\ Broadway) and our favourite 'howl at the moon' duelling pianos. We were on when I suspect it was full and crowds didn't bother us much. There is plenty of quiet places to go both night and day. We managed to do everything we wanted and eat where wanted most of the time with only occasional waits. If I had to guess, maybe it's not the most luxurious of ships(I've nothing to compare it to) but it's definitely one of the most fun Read Less

this was our first cruise ever so we didn't know what to expect. getting on board and checking in was so smooth. our cabin with a balcony was nice and roomy with plenty of storage. our room steward, sheran, was so wonderful...always smiling and attentive to our every need. we ate at a few places ...the main buffet was good but we were disappointed in the lack of variety of vegetables. we had mainly zucinni that was mushy with a few green beans and peppers thrown in. we did have a baked potato one night and that was nice. we were hoping for some broccoli and cauliflower on the buffet. the proteins were all good. the sports bar buffet was good...nice sandwiches and plenty of sides to choose from. we ate at the main dining room 2 nights. unfortunately our friend ordered a steak and it was totally overcooked. the beef short ribs were delicious as were the mashed potatoes. the breakfast in the main buffet was delicious. the pineapple and watermelon was so good. the sports bar was our main hangout. great drinks. alberto was our favorite server. so funny and very attentive. the nightly entertainment had something for everyone. our shore excursions were fun and what we expected. sorry we didn't do more. i appreciate the hard work of the staff to keep this cruise ship running in an orderly fashion. it was nice to have everything so well kept and clean. i can't wait for our next cruise! This was our 1st cruise. We stayed in an oceanview stateroom. Our room was beautiful and clean! We always had new towels and ice! It was a constant party for 7 days! The bar staff and wait staff is exceptional! We went the last week in July and the ship was smooth sailing. We were so afraid of getting sea sick on our first cruise. We all had sea bands and I would recommend them. The ship is beautiful, clean, and so much fun! We thought the food was outstanding in the main dining halls and specialty dining restaurants. We loved the shows and were impressed with the talent provided. Our kids were 16 and 19 and they had a ball! We loved it so much we put down a deposit to cruise again! We had 22 people in our group...which made it even more fun! We would highly recommend this cruise! Read Less

We went on this cruise as part of a big group of friends. Being first timers, we weren't quite sure what to expect. I have to say we were quite pleased overall, and have already booked our next cruise. The Ship - Huge clean, and a wide array of activities. The running track is a bit small, and tight on the turns. If you're a runner, it can be a pain weaving around walkers, and the turns can wear on you. It would be nice to have the direction of the track change direction every day so you can balance out the impact on your body. The fitness center is a decent size, and it offered a good amount of equipment. The ropes course was fun, but limited access to when we were in port or a non-windy day at sea. I wish there was somewhere we could have looked online to see if it was open at a given moment, so we wouldn't have to go all the way up there to find out. Also, if you want to go on it, make sure to wear closed toed shoes, AND a tshirt. Tank tops are not allowed. The Cabin - We had a standard balcony room. I was about the size of a small New York hotel room. Which is bigger than I expected, but had plenty of space and storage for our needs. Dining - We had group reservations for dinner on all but one of the nights. The upgraded restaurants we went to, Cagney's, Moderno, Le Bistro and Teppanyaki, were all good. The main downside of reservations with a large group, is that the meal was much earlier than we would typically like (5-5:30), and it would take forever, because they are trying to time bringing out the dishes all together. Of the complimentary restaurants, O'Sheehans stood above the others. Get the chicken wings, you won't disappointed. Manhattan Room was ok. We were pretty disappointed with Taste. Garden Cafe was a good option for breakfast a quick lunch or late evening snacks. Although it got pretty crowded and hard to find a seat during the peak times. As far as bars were concerned, we really liked hanging outside at the 5 o'clock somewhere bar with Clarence, he always kept a fun party vibe going. I also like the Brewhouse, it had a good selection of beers as well as a pretty relaxing atmosphere. The guys at the bar in Spice were all great nd very attentive as well. I loved the designs they put into our bushwhackers (drinks). The main drawback to the bars is that you couldn't get a blended drink like a pina colada at all the bars. This included 5 o'clock somewhere. If we wanted a pina colada, we had to go to a different deck! Entertainment - Tyler the cruise director, is tireless, and multi-talented. I have no idea when this guy gets rest. Whatever he is paid, he needs a raise. Howl at the Moon was a really fun experience. I wish I would have known to book reservations to the various shows as soon as we got onto the ship, because by the end of the first day, most of the shows were booked. Also, I know it was summer, and I expected kids on the boat. I kind of wish the cutoff to the family friendly stuff was a little earlier. After a long day in the sun or out on excursions, I'm tired, and a more adult themed show at 11pm is pushing my limits of exhaustion. I wish I could have taken part in this more. We didn't take part in many of the evening stuff at spice, because they would usually be too crowded early on, or there would be too many kids. I like kids, I just would have preferred to not have them around for some stuff. Service - Great for the most part. There were some points we got frustrated, because we weren't allowed some stuff. We kind of nicknamed it the ship of "No". Ports - we stopped at St. THomas, Tortolla, and Nassau. We LOVED St. Thomas & Tortolla. Nassau kind of sucked. Read Less

It was my grandson's graduation and my son and daughter-in-law's anniversary. It also was my first cruise. Even though the lines were long, we boarded and got to our rooms in no time at all. The cabins were immaculate. At first I was afraid to go out on the balcony (fear of heights), but I ventured out a little at a time until I got used to it. The views from the ship were amazing. I expected a whale to jump out any minute LOL. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food, what can I say, whether you went to the fancy restaurants or you went up to the buffet it was incredible. The entertainment was absolutely wonderful. There was a comedian, can't remember his last name but his first name was Vince. He had me in stitches. I went to see him 3 times. Whether you got the clean version of his jokes or the adult version, he was very funny. I loved all the ports. I've also spoken with other seasoned travelers who have cruised on many different ships and we all agreed that Norweigan was the best. I had the best time ever from the time I stepped on to the ship until it was time to leave. I will be back. Read Less

Reading the blogs in regards to the Norwegian Jewel were spot on. Ranking: 1) Entertainment (the entertainment staff really does a great job on the Jewel) 2) Activities (there is something to do every hour of every day on the Jewel. You will never get bored.) 3) Room (Penthouse room at the front of the boat had a huge deck with amazing views) 4) Service (everyone was very friendly and helpful. We had a Butler, Rex and a private Concierge, Bruno. Both were very helpful and attentive.) 5) Food (This was the biggest disappointment. The food was beyond horrible. We were looking forward to our ports of call just to get decent food. The Teppanyaki specialty restaurant had the best food.) NCL has a nice relaxed dress code. Which comes in handy when you are out on shore excursions all day and want to go to dinner when you get on the boat without having to change. Definitely check out the spa, its well worth it. For my first cruise it was okay. I wasn't sure what to expect but found very little guidance onboard on where to go, how things work, etc. The Dining experience was good. We had an awesome waiter at the Aqua and continued going back and requesting his section. The bar experience wasn't all that great as we tried to order certain drinks that they said they couldn't make. Also, had a very difficult time finding Mountain Dew for my son even though we had a soda package for him. The entertainment was pretty good - was only disappointed in one show. Really enjoyed the SoulDuo show and the crew talent show. The dancers were good, too. Did not really enjoy Norwegian Belize Island. Traveled with my teenage son but he did not participate in the teens activities even though I tried to get him to go often. Our cabin steward was very attentive and great. It was a great time from the minute we got on the ship to the time we got off the ship. The Nowegian Escape staff were great, all the way from the dining staff up to the captain. Tyler the cruise director was a hoot! he was always showing up when you least expected it including in the musical The Brat Pack. I can not say enough how genuine all these people really are. We are first time cruisers from Canada, a married 40 year old couple with a 4 year old son. We chose a cruise, as opposed to an all inclusive resort holiday, so that we had a high level of service, great accommodations, excellent food, varied ports, and a kids club for our 4 year old son. We chose this particular cruise because of its port (New Orleans) We wanted to go somewhere unique that we’ve never been and spend a few days in addition to our cruise. We were also attracted by the ports. We were excited about Honduras, Belize, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. All in all we had a great time on the Norwegian Dawn and it met a lot of our expectations. Here’s what we liked: 1. The food was excellent. We ate in the complimentary restaurants only, and enjoyed the Garden Cafe the most, Aqua was nice, and so was O’Sheehans pub. There was a ton of healthy options, the hot buffet was really fantastic, there was a lot of children’s options (mac and cheese, hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, fries). The breakfasts were especially great with every imaginable option. You can't beat a soft serve ice cream machine either! That was a hit with my boys. 2. The service was excellent. The staff are from around the world and we had a great time hearing their stories and learning more about what lead them to work away from their families (and children) for up to 8 months at a time. 3. The ports offered a lot of variety. We really loved Cozumel (more on the ports below); Costa Maya (the town of Mahahual was amazing); and Roatan, Honduras were wonderful. 4. The stateroom was very good. We were in an inside stateroom and it was actually just fine for us. Our son slept in the top pull down bed and we had our big king bed. The bathroom was a nice size with a good sized shower. We were on the 8th floor aft (back of the ship) and it was nice and quiet. The limited channels even offered quite a few kids shows. 5. The kids club on the 13th floor was fantastic! The staff were so skilled and friendly. Our son was in the 3-5 age group and joined in on the two sea days, as well as for an hour in the evenings so that we could go for dinner. This was totally worth the price of admission to the ship in my opinion as it gave him an opportunity to play with other kids, and us an opportunity to get some alone time. 6.The kids pool was also really great. It is little, and very shallow (only 2.5 feet deep) which is ideal because our boy didn’t need his water wings/lifejacket to go in. There are hot tubs and slides, and he played in there for hours. Here’s what we didn’t love: 1. There were way too many costs associated with this cruise! I wouldn’t do this again simply for all the add-ons to everything. Want a pint of beer? That’ll be $9 plus an 18% gratuity, on top of the $40.50 per day we are already paying for gratuity. Want to do a shore excursion? That will be $350 to go snorkeling with your family for 6 hours. Need the internet? That will be $79 per day! Want water? That is $60+ per week for bottled water. We are not cheap people, and have traveled extensively around the world, but I have not seen this level of price gouging of guests before. In addition, being Canadian, we were adding an additional 30% onto that price due to the exchange rate. Our bill at check out was over $600 just from mandatory gratuity and about 10 alcoholic drinks over the course of the week. Instead of excursions we decided to do our own thing in all of the ports and had a great time! Here’s how…. Ports: Cozumel - We got off the ship, got a cab for $15, and went to Chankanaab beach adventure park. We paid $56 usd to enter, $10 for masks and snorkels, and then $50 for beers and food. We enjoyed sitting under a palapa and had a waiter bring our drinks and food out. We watched the tour groups from all the ships marching by us so this is a reputable beach where many of the excursions go. We were there all day and had a blast! There is a little kids beach as well which was ideal for sand castles and wading in the water. The snorkelling here was really great. As well, they have dolphins, crocodiles, iguanas, a pool, a sea lion show, and several beach bars. Tip - bring small bananas or bread to attract the fish. Total cost to us : $150 usd Roatan Honduras - We loved this port! This was such an amazing and authentically beautiful island. The ship excursion to Gumbalina was around $425 for 3 of us so we decided to do the day on our own again. We hired a cab for the whole day for $50. He took us to the top point of the island for a view picture and some small little shops up there (they are really ready for the cruise ships to come in and make some money!); we then went to the butterfly farm for a $20 entry fee (my son was free) and saw a diverse array of butterflies, they had monkeys, parrots, and sloths. We then wanted to head to West Bay Beach, which we heard was a fantastic place to spend the day. He drove us all over the island, through the small villages and out to West Bay beach. He took us to the Grand Maya Beach club and we paid $20 (my son was free) to get in. That gave us nothing as far as I could tell but it said that we could sit on the beach chairs on the beach. The beach was packed with people! The water was beautiful and clear (reminded me a lot of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic), and the sand was soft and white, and the hawkers were out in full force. We couldn’t even get one minute without someone approaching us to sell cigars, bracelets, sunglasses etc. I always smile, say no thank you and they move on, but it certainly wasn’t relaxing. We ate lunch at Beaches grill with a fantastic outdoor patio overlooking the beach, that was about $35 for some ceviche, margaritas, a grilled cheese sandwich and fries. We spent a few hours at this beach and that was plenty, we then moved on to the rest of the island. We stopped and bought some rum, took some pictures, my husband wanted a haircut so he went to a local shop for a $5 cut and then back to the boat around 4pm. It was a great day for around $140 usd. Tip: Look into Tabyana beach instead of West Bay beach - if I had it to do over again I would have tried that one instead as I have a feeling it wouldn’t have been so crowded. Belize: This was not Belize. This was a custom built island 20 minutes from the real Belize. I will go to Belize one day and I’m sure it will be lovely. This was basically a beach day for the entire population of the ship to move from the ship to a beach, sit on the beach, shop, go to the kids water park, pay to eat in the restaurants and then get back on the boat 6 hours later. We spent about an hour in the kids splash park (kudoos to the architect, that is a stellar kids spash park!!) and then went back to the boat since it was mostly empty. There are excursions to the real Belize and I would encourage you to go on one to get a sense of the real country. Costa Maya/Mahahual: This port was a sleeper hit for us, as I thought it would be another custom made port. We walked off into the Costa Maya port which is a huge custom built port with restaurants and shopping and immediately got a cab into Mahahual. We paid $6 each way for a cab that goes about 5 minutes into the real town. This town is really chill, we found a nice little beach for free, sat there all day under palapas, went in the beautiful water, ate lunch at a great beach grill and then got a cab back to Costa Maya at the end of the day. Total cost was around $50 usd and we had a wonderful relaxing day on the beach. Would we do a cruise again? Yes! But I wouldn't choose one that nickeled and dimed me at every turn. I would also ensure that I was aware of all of the ports as I am just not interested in seeing fake ports. Read Less

As a first time cruiser I couldn't have been more impressed. The ship it self isn't very large, but it was perfect for the few days at sea. Since this was our first cruise, we decided on an interior stateroom. For an older ship, i didn't mind the size of the room. I was also not expecting anything outrageous, either. Our Steward was very friendly and attentive. He always made sure to greet us upon every meeting, and made us feel very welcomed aboard this ship. Dining was much more than we expected. Many friends told us to not expect the best tasting food, but man oh man was it good! The pretzel rolls were a must each time I walked by the buffet! haha! We were also lucky enough to have a Chef that was experienced with many different styles of cuisines, and were able to try all types. We didn't try any of the independent restaurants that you had to pay for, but we didn't need to. We were so pleased with the dining offerings, besides the buffet, which also had delicious food and amazing staff. Every day there was something going on, on the ship. We never once got bored or ever found nothing to do. We were going non stop. We sailed right after a hurricane, so our itinerary changed slightly before we departed. Instead of Freeport, we were lucky to get to Key West. My first time in Key West and I Loved it. We didn't do any excursions, just walked around and explored. It was an absolute delight. Nassau was our second stop of the week. This port was an experience. We again didn't schedule any excursions, and just wanted to see Nassau ourselves. At first we were bombarded by locals trying to get us in vans and on scooters. Once we finally got away from all that craziness, we walked over to Junkanoo beach. Junkanoo beach was not impressive. Maybe it was because of the hurricane that recently went through the area, but I don't plan to visit again. I was actually nervous walking in Nassau from the Port to the beach and up around the Parliament building, but am glad that we did it. This port day, we were back on the ship by noon, but we were more than happy too. With everyone out and about in Nassau, we were finally able to enjoy the hot tubs and relax. This was our favorite part of the trip! Lastly disembarkation was a breeze. Although our flight was later in the day, we decided to do the walk off with your own luggage, and it was such a quick process. We even took the first shuttle to the airport. Even though we didn't enjoy Nassau as much as others, we enjoyed the ship and Key West very much. I can't not wait for our next NCL cruise, and in the future I will definitely take the Sky again. By the way... it was all-inclusive too! great to not have to worry about paying for your drinks while on board! Read Less

First cruise ever, last on NCL. The ship was nice, did not seem dated to me as some say BUT.... Staff - friendly but usually only if prompted for help - I think I saw my room steward twice, both times because I needed something - there was no lifejacket I could find (someone had stowed under the bed) and no robe unless you ask and that is for a mini suite? Food was simply horrid, with very few exceptions. The best food of course was in the specialty restaurants Le Bistro was very good, Cagney's was average, and Teppenyaki could take it or leave it. The normal food, was at times disgusting. Corned beef sandwich in O'Sheehans was simply cold rye toast with fatty corned beef - no sauce, cheese, toppings of any kind. Gross. Fries that came with anything were always cold, in fact nothing I ate was ever hot as most meals should be, lukewarm food at best, even eggs and soup. Again, gross. One night I was tired so ordered room service. I tried a cheeseburger, who can make a bad burger? NCL. Cold bun, mayo, thin beef patty and a totally unmelted slice of cheese. No cold fries this time, stale potato chips in a bowl. Really really bad. That was just a couple of examples I could go on. So if you want a nice cruise, pretty scenery (weather was gorgeous and sunny) and are on a DIET, sail NCL cause I actually think I lost a few pounds on that food. The other disturbing observation was a sewer smell that permeated the stateroom corridors much of the time, especially as you approached mid ship, and not just on one floor. Someone has a sewer leak? I asked a steward in passing if he smelled that? He either did not understand me or did not want to talk about it and brushed me off. Sewer fumes, again gross. Too bad too, everyone is asking about how my cruise was, knowing it was my first. and NCL blew it,and yes I am telling everyone who asks just how....... next time based on the feedback from others in the ports will try Princess, everyone on the Coral and Crown I met loved it. Sigh. Good to be home. Read Less

Came back yesterday 7/2 from our 1st cruise ever. Escape made that experience exceed our expectations. Only reason I did not give Excellent 5 star rating was due to the pools. The fact that there is only 1 main pool on a ship that size is insulting. Ok, now onto the good stuff. Boarding was very quick. In fact we were able to board 2 1/2 hours early. The mini suite was just as advertised. Roomy with large balcony and bathroom. 2 sinks and shower with 8 jets was nice touch. Our room was made up,several times a day and was very clean. The food was better then expected. Had the upgraded dining package and was treated to some fine meals. Even the complementary dining was above par. Only ate in buffet a few times for breakfast but it was very good. Food Republic is a must. Very reasonable for high quality food and a unique experience. Also had the drink package which honestly is a no brainier. You literally could get any drink (beer/alcohol) you wanted. And I mean anything! EVERY brand of beer available. I couldn't believe it. This took top shelf to another level. In fact, we have been to several high end all inclusive resorts and the food drink on the escape exceeded those incredible experiences. The spa was included with our package and we took advantage of the amenities. Their pools, hot tubs, etc were unbelievable. Took a few naps in their loud lounge and heated chairs. Really felt pampered there. Unfortunately I had a stone massage that was sub par at best but they did credit my account 1/2 the fee. Nice customer service as the spa mgr was very accommodating. Constant entertainment and activities on board. Fun to watch the activities. One night we watched the comedian show and he was very funny. Also the saw The Brat Pack. Actually felt like I was watching a NY show. It really was AWESOME! The singing and dancing was very good. What a fun show to end the night. Did a few snorkeling trips in st John and Tortolla. Breathtaking beaches and surroundings! Those islands were really beautiful! Didn't do excursion in Bahamas. We just walked around the port stores. Honestly that's one big hustle. Wish we didn't leave the boat. Now for the BEST PART.........VIBE! My wife really wanted this but I had no clue or expectation. Adults only! Felt like we had our secret pocket on the ship where they put the best bartenders and passengers. Nice area to just get away and always have a lounge chair. Large misters, shower and hot top all at the very top of ship was nice touch. Always had a seat at the bar and the over lucky people in VIBE were all "salt of the earth" nice people from all over the country. Everyone was very friendly but you could also be alone and secluded if that's what you wanted. RUMMEL & ROBERTO brought customer service to another level. Always called you by your name and had your drink ready. Would make you anything, Bought out cold towels, fruit, beach towels, cold ice water with lemon. Attention to detail was their specialty! Introduced us to some crazy shots and drinks that were very good. Both ROMMEL & ROBERTO always smiled! Their energy was contagious! If you can get into VIBE please do it. You will, not be disappointed! Everyone on the ship was very friendly and would always point you in the right direction. Bought a watch in the jewelry store. MELVIN was the salesman. Not pushy and never felt pressured. He always smiled and gave me honest answers. Great guy! Other then the pool situation, this trip on ESCAPE was incredible! Clean, attention to detail, fine food/alcohol, friendly staff are a few things that come to mind. Well done NCL, Bravo!!! Read Less
