First of all, starting from embarkation we came across with the same problem, again and again, we have Turkish special passport holders which do not require us to obtain a visa for certain countries. We told it each time to the embarkation personnel and passport officers but they cause us to wait sometimes 2 hours in order to get confirmation. Sometimes they do not accept official letters from embassies. So, they must update the visa requirements checklist including special passport holders. As a frequent traveler, I do not want to be treated as a missing visa issue again and again. Because I do not need to have a visa. Furthermore, as a premier guest, we experienced a lot of problems, some restaurant managers trying to tell me that there are 2000 platinum plus members staying on the ship. Therefore they can not give us a priority in the restaurants. Later I learned that this was a total lie. I reported the situation to the general hotel director and asked him that if I can not get any priority why do I need to choose Norwegian again. I received no response. Therefore you can not receive any priority even if you are too loyal to the cruise line. For thermal suite packages, the ship sold more than the available limits in the spa area. Everybody who finds the door open just jumps in. Everybody start having an argument about sitting in lounge chairs. I was assaulted twice by other passengers. I also reported this situation to the general director but nothing changed. The spa personnel most of the time left the door open or some other guests invite others to use spa for free. Therefore the majority f the passengers get really angry for why they paid extra for thermal spa if everybody can jump inside freely. At last, during the disembarkation process, everything becomes chaotic. The ship personnel can able to collect and make passport stamps while we are on the ship and inside the European premises for one week we traveled to Portugal and Spain ports. But they preferred to do EU entry passport stamps on our own during disembarkation at Barcelona. I have to wait a lot of lines, ship exit line, passport stamp line, baggage collection line and taxi stand time. It takes a complete 3 hours. I have been cruised many times but have not seen such a thing in Barcelona for the recent 10 years. I have been many times cruised with Norwegian but their loyalty seems to be nothing more than 2 free special dinners which are limited to 25 USD max order per cabin not per member. I expect them to give unlimited internet or some more dining night for free but once you get platinum, do not try to get higher because once you reach plat plus only thing you get is a dinning chance with an officer as a group of 3-4 staterooms in a main dining room. Especially in this cruise from Cape Canaveral to Barcelona, most of the passengers are really annoyed because only three shows were presented as unique for 15 days. For other days they repeat the shows again and again. Everybody goes to bed at 7 pm after dinner. So we call the ship as a ghost at late times. Epic is a good ship I have traveled with her 4 times in the past. But it was managed well and the level of the service and fun was great. Use to be Burn the floor took a showplace in Manhattan but no more. I have never heard someone playing the piano in the taste also. Furthermore, the waiters are not trained most of them newly joined to the company. Sometimes you have to wait 2-3 hours for a 3-course meal. For even the laundry they keep saying that every day they receive 5000 bags of laundry, they work so hard, they have no time to rest etc. I do not understand why are they acting like this. Read Less

My husband and I have been on several Norwegian cruises (Escape and Jade) and decided to go on the Epic. The good: embarkation process took about 30 minutes -buffett food was decent - most of the staff we dealt with were friendly-comedians were hilarious-food allergy attendants were very knowledgeable- main dining restaurants were very good- The Beatles musicians were fantastic The bad: The shows were terrible and there were no family appropriate show options. All of the game shows were held in the attium where the seating was cramped and it was difficult to hear. The casino was right in the middle of the ship so you had to walk through smoke to get to restaurants, shops, etc,. The few options that were family friendly cost an additional fee and were always booked. Disembarkation was the most unorganized thing that I have ever seen. Lines in every direction without any guidance from staff. It took us three hours to get off the ship. We were oin our disignated area at 7:45 when rhey called for us and did not get through customs until 10:45. It was a complete nightmare people breaking in line and no one there to direct you where to go. When we asked where to go we were told to follow the line. The design of the staterooms was terrible. The toilet area was tiny and and there was no privacy. My husband and I kept waking each other up because the toilet was so loud when flushed. The bed was wide, but it’s curved which makes it shorter. I am 5”8 and my feet were hanging off the end of the bed. The ugly:The ship was dirty- our stateroom 11179 was disgustingly filthy. When we entered our stateroom there were crumbs on the bed, the floor and the carpet was stained. We asked our steward to vacuum our room and he apologized and cleared the crumbs. I noticed a stain by the bed where someone had thrown up on the wall and it had obviously ran down to the carpet. I showed the wall to our steward and he said “oh that is an old stain, but I will try to clean it”. As he was cleaning the stain and the dead bug that was smooshed on the wall he picked up a sleeping mask and handed it to me. I explained that the mask did not belong to me and he apologized. In summary, I will continue to cruise , but I will never go on the Epic again. Read Less

We chose this cruise for my 50th Birthday. It was the first cruise for both of us and I was very nervous because of reading a lot of negative reviews. But we had a great time! We knew there would be crowds and lots of kids because my birthday was the week before Easter, so we booked a Spa Balcony room so we would have a quiet retreat. Best decision ever! We truly enjoyed the thermal suite and never found it to be overly crowded. We had the UBP and three nights of Specialty Dining. We chose Le Bistro, Cagneys, and the Cirque Show. Food and service was great in all three! We enjoyed the shows, Priscilla, Burn the Floor, and the Epic Beatles in the Epic Theater. Unfortunately we did not get to the smaller venue to see the Beatles in the Cavern Club in time to get seats, which was our own fault. We had great food and service in both of the main dining rooms and also in O’Sheehans. Loved the wings!!! Our room steward, Jingles, was amazing! He kept our room and balcony stocked and spotless at all times and made the best towel animals! We were fortunate to get extra time in Tortola for planned maintenance on the ship. Wished the port time in St. Thomas had been longer, but it’s just a good excuse to go back. Great Stirrup Cay was fabulous. Rented a clamshell near the tacos and tequila... need I say more?!? We will definitely be planning more cruises with Norwegian! We loved the freestyle cruising concept. We honestly had nothing to complain about. We heard all of the horror stories about embarkation and debarkation, but we were on the ship within 45 minutes of our arrival at the port and walked off with our luggage before 7:30 a.m. Truly one of the best vacations we have ever been on! We were originally booked to go on the Oasis of the Seas the same week, but a crane colliding with the ship ended that and we were desperate to get away so we broke ranks from our friends who were doing an itinerary we've been on a few times already and decided to book the Epic because of the the stops in Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay. Two places we had never been. The other stop was St. Thomas. We were excited to get down to Orlando and get out to sea as it had been a long winter and both of our jobs were ramping up for a busy summer season. What a surprise we were in for. Below is my review that I sent on my survey. I'm not a cruise newbie by any means. This was my 7th cruise. It was our first time on Norwegian. To be honest something just seemed off from the get go. The Norwegian staff at embarkation in Port Canaveral was rude. The man telling us what counter to go to, actually rolled his eyes at my husband because we stepped too close to spot 23 rather than 22. Everyone was jammed in and there was no where we could go, so we fanned out as the clerk finished with the group in front of us. This man rolled his eyes in disgust and looked at me and said, i told you to go to 22. He was an unpleasant piece of work. ! Next, we walk down to find a place to sit at the port before they started boarding and there were so many seats reserved for "priority" guests, that there was no room for those of us low lifers that were not priority. The woman who wouldn't let us sit in the priority section was completely ignorant and rude. We've never experienced such a ridiculous boarding of a ship. The staterooms were not ready, everyone was crammed into the Garden Cafe like cattle, with again no where to sit and we were stuck with our carry on bags. The whole process was poorly executed and indicative of what was to be an ongoing theme the entire week. We nicknamed this experience the Epic Failure. Once we got to the rooms, we found the layout utterly disgusting. This is our fault for not researching, but who wants a bathroom area split from the shower and separated by a curtain from the sleeping area? Disgusting. I thought Norwegian was upper crust of the cruise industry. Once I saw this, I doubted that and was only provided more proof as the week went on. NCL advertises the free style cruising, but dining areas are always packed and crowded and you wait forever! The way you have to reserve seats for shows and plan reservations just to see them is ridiculous. We were told by hosts at the restaurant doors that we had to have reservations, but you couldn't make reservations online. I called the dining number to make a reservation and was told I couldn't make a reservation. Our other issue was the constant up charge for everything. You want to see a cool show, up charge. You want to use the hotubs in the spa, up charge. You want to set foot in the ice bar, up charge. You want a full face mask for your snorkeling expedition, up charge! I mean seriously, it became our running joke. There were not many fun free activities. Not everyone wants to get drunk. The open air spaces were totally lacking. Come on, you have 4000 people on the ship and you cram them all onto one upper sun deck and one pool deck? There were hardly ANY open chairs in any of the open areas. We spent half our time holed up in a small area near the humidor lounge just to find seating and to stay out of our room. The whole atrium is stuffy and crowded. We tried to make reservations for the Escape the big top game and couldn't get in, we tried to see the musicals and could only get late late times and frankly the whole entertainment crew just seemed off and tired. Speaking of crew and staff, I was rudely and literally yelled at by some bus person on the Garden Cafe straight out over the bridge who told me I should go down stairs to the Italian restaurant instead of waiting for an open table. He then took his time to clear the 20 dirty tables that were in the area. I wasn't leaving that deck and losing touch with my husband, sorry. The only positive encounters I had on the ship with the crew were the interactions we had with Borgy our room steward (who by the way is the sole reason I do not give this sailing an absolute fail rating) and the young lady who greeted everyone in the cafe (washy washy, yummy yummy, coffee coffee) and a lovely woman who took some time to talk with us each morning and literally brought us juice to our table. The rest of the crew just seemed surly and angry at the world. We just didn't have that feeling of being welcome that we have on other cruise lines. Now, let's talk about the worst of it. Debarkation day. What an ABSOLUTE disaster!!! We literally spent 2 hours in a stairwell trying to get off the ship with all of our luggage. We were on Deck 11 trying to make it to Deck 6 and could not get an elevator so we decided to hoof it down the stairs. No big deal, until we were stuck at Deck 9 and could not get down any further. People were fighting. Babies were screaming. All we wanted to do was get off that god awful ship. Then when we finally go to the right deck, someone told us we had to go down to deck 5. We then had to march the entire length of the ship in some mouse trap maze and back to where we just came down from, go through security and then deal with more security in the port. The entire process to get off your ship was over 4 hours! There is something really wrong there! What if you had had an emergency at sea?? I would be scared for my life. You can’t handle embarkation or debarkation, how would that crew handle a disaster? With all this in mind, I am not saying we would never sail with NCL again, but it would have to be one absolute hell of a deal and never ever, ever again on the Epic. That ship ought to be sent that ship to the boneyard. Read Less

We had the most EPIC vacation on the Norwegian Epic (pun totally intended). The ship had a great layout, the service was great and we really, really loved the food. The Chinese restaurant was the biggest surprise. This restaurant, along with the buffet, Irish bar and two main dining rooms, are included in the price of the cruise. The noodle bar that is part of the Chinese restaurant was great!! We ate there every other night. My six year old also loved the child care. The theming was amazing! He attended the pirate, spy and outer space nights and loved them. He even cried when we tried to pick him up early...he was having too much fun with all of his new friends. My only advice for next time would be to book specialty dining early. We enjoyed the Cirque show but would have loved to dine at the Japanese restaurant. It was booked completely. Also, if you are going to the private island, make sure you make a reservation for the tender to the island. We could have had an extra hour or two of island time if we had figured that out sooner. Don’t feel like this was clearly publicized. Overall we will book Norwegian again!! Read Less

Chosen for relaxing and dancing. They list ballroom dancing in Main dining room but put tables on 80% of the dance floor. And band played dinner jazz. They didn't know what a Rhumba beat was. Too many people on this ship. Everything felt crowded. Buffet food was just so so. Main dining room was good food though. Overall, no desire to cruise on this ship again. First ship we've been on that did not have a walking/jogging deck. Okay, they did if you wanted to go back and forth on one side with a view of the lifeboats. Discover Cayman tour is way over rated. Private island had little to offer unless you spent money. Best part of trip was Ocho Rios Blue hole and tubing (Karandas tour). Ship groups looked very crowded. Really got tired of them always pushing their 'cruise next' program. Will definitely look for 'Burn the Floor' show when they go on US tour. Read Less

We were on the Epic Spring Break and we were very, very disappointed! First, our room was a sardine can...you walked in and the toilet was on the right shower on the left...sink at the foot of the bed. TINY, TINY....to get to these rooms it was like a corn maze!! The balcony was nice..good size. Another big WHAT, REALLY...you couldn't order certain drinks at the restaurants. We've been on 12 cruises we have never had that happen. Also, they had a convenience charge of $7.95 on room service. Entertainment was Great!! You have to know to make reservations for EVERYTHING! Not so Freestyle!! There were not enough chairs on the decks for sunning. The layout.....not enough open decking....near the ice bar and piano bar there was a very narrow passage...two people at a time and this is a main area on the ship. He casino is huge and open to the others floors all the smoke came righ tup and down in the dining area. Learned the first nigh not to eat there. Cagney' Steak was fabulous. Also, to tender off to the private island you need a number!! We didn't get off until 12:30. It was terrible, we ended up with chairs in the back on the private island looking at the back of other chairs. Over all we'd never go on this ship again and we'd rethink NCL! Read Less

Embarkation: We arrived at the port about 10:30 a.m. Embarkation was delayed by at least an hour. Boarding did not start until noon. There were some people not on the ship until 2:30 or even a little later. We were never told the reason. Ship: We had cruised on the Epic 5 years prior. While still nice and clean you can see the wear and tear. The spa has lights out over the water, drapes are a little frayed, paint isn't as fresh, etc. Spa: The spa area is still a really nice oasis away from the crowds. However the heated lounges aren't really heated anymore. Most aren't even warm to the touch. We were told something about someone being burned is why they turned them down. However, they still should be warm. You can also see the wear in here. There are lights above the water area that need to be replaced. Food: Buffet was ok. Not great but not bad either. There was an Indian chickpea dish we had here that was one of the best things we had on the ship. Cagney's food was good. However it took us 2 1/2 hours to eat there. That was excessive. Taste was fine. Service was good. La Bistro was very good. Service was great. Food was really good. Probably the best steak on the ship. Moderno was better than I remember. Not as good as a Fogo De Chao but still pretty good. The salad bar was very impressive. Cirque food was really good. Manhattan room was fine. We were sat right up by the piano so it was hard to converse. We found that some of the best food we had was when we went away from the American type foods and tried "international" dishes. Entertainment: The Beatles band was great. If you like that type of music I highly recommend you see them. Priscilla was good. It's not my type of story line. However the costumes and production values were evident. Definitely make sure you are ok with the subject matter before you attend. NOT for kids. They make that very evident but I guess people still don't heed that warning. Cirque was good. We had a issues with a couple of the acts. If the performer(s) would take off one more article of clothing it would have been an act we could have seen at a strip club. If that is the type of acts they want in the show that's fine, however, they need to make that clear like they did with Priscilla. We had grandma and our 9 year old with us. Needless to say it was uncomfortable for a few minutes. Bars: The bars are slammed. Granted we were on a spring break cruise but this was after the college spring break. There were almost no college kids on our cruise. Mostly families with kids. Getting drinks on sea days and at the bars / clubs at night can be a 15 - 20 minute ordeal. I'm not sure what NCL is going to do about it. Some of the staff have started giving you 2 - 4 drinks at a time to try and keep you happy. However, most of the time, they will be warm/melted by the time you get to them. So you end up wasting them and getting another cold one. Kids area: Not sure why but our son really wasn't all that interested in going. It may have been due to the fact that the group was 7 - 9. And he's a month away from being 10. Or maybe since granny was on the cruise and he could hang out with her. On a previous cruise 2 years ago, he would be mad if we wouldn't take him. So we're not sure what happened there. Ports: Tortola We went to the Baths. This was awesome. It is a physically demanding excursion. But if you are up to it, well worth it. They are still rebuilding much of the area. The port area isn't all that built up like some we have been to. St. Thomas We only had 6 hours in port so we didn't do much. Went up to the top of the Mountain had a bushwacker (great!) and enjoyed the view. The do now have a small brewery in the shopping village. If you're into that sort of thing, I'd stop by and have a beer before you leave. Private Island We splurged and got a cabana. I felt it was worth it. One issue we had was the tendering to the island. We kept being told since a Cabana was considered and excursion, we'd get priority tendering. Well that didn't happen. We walked down the stairs when they started calling and then waited in line for 45 minutes before boarding a tender. My wife even went to the excursion desk to ask while I waited. They just said get in line. Overall I'd say it was a good cruise. I'd still sail on the Epic again if it all worked out. However, it's also not something I'd really try to seek out to do either. We choose this cruise for my daughters senior trip. Since it was spring break, we knew we would pay higher than normal rates, which is to be expected during spring break. We had fantastic weather the entire trip. The ship was well run and the staff was very pleasant. Our room was always made up and turned down as indicated on our door wheel. We never had to wait for our room to be ready. We were cruising with platinum members so they knew all the ropes, so I knew what to expect. My daughter had the best time meeting other teens in the teen club, Entourage. I do have a few suggestions for this ship. 1. More outlets are needed in the room since there are no USB charging ports in the rooms. 2. There are no clocks in the room either. 3. At night when you pull your key card out of the slot and the lights go out, it’s hard to find your way to the bathroom at night. 4. Garbage cans are needed in the main parts of the ship. When you gets a soda in a plastic glass there is no where to throw it away when you’re done. 5. Then tendering process to the private island could be improved. The line was so long that it wrapped from the back of the ship to the front. 6. Because we were traveling with platinum members, we were almost first to board the ship and we made a beeline for guest services to book the Posh Club. We were told that it was already booked up, although you could not book it until you got on the ship. We were very disappointed, since we were almost first onto the ship and thought for sure that we would be able to book it. 7. For the days at sea, you could find chairs, although they were not by the pool. Pool chairs were gone by very early mornings. 8. I heard several passengers say that they had never been on a ship that rocked so much. But in my opinion, I’ve never been on a ship that I couldn’t feel rocking. 9. I wish we had a longer stay on St. Thomas (we set sail at 2:00) and less time on Tortola (we were supposed to set sail at 6:00, but had some maintenance issues and did not leave until 10:00 pm). 10. The comedy club was so full, we could not get in. Read Less

We chose Norwegian because we had not sailed with them before and had big time expectations since we’ve sailed several times on their cheaper competitors. In many ways they delivered on our high expectations and on others not so much. We arrived at the port a couple hours before embarking. The lines were very long but we were near the front luckily. When the embarkation process started, it went very smoothly with no problems at all. After standing still waiting for the process to start for an hour, once it started moving, we were aboard 30 min later. Our first impressions of the ship was this was a really nice one and super clean. We were immediately offered a couple sprays of disinfectant and saw several automatic dispenser stationed around the ship. We made our way to our cabin on the 12th floor. It was exactly what we expected. Maybe a little odd to have the toilet and shower kinda out in the open each using frosted glass. This area can be curtained off to separate from the rest of room. We found the storage to be plentiful with cabinets all over and high and low. The bed was comfortable and big enough for a couple adults. In case an additional sleeping spot is needed, the couch can roll out into a narrow bed. We really enjoyed just how dark the room could be when the curtains were shut. The balcony was also exactly what I expected, not too big or too small. We were excited to hit the buffet and bar so we head to the garden cafe on 15. As we walk towards it, we are offered hand disinfectant from the happiest human we’ve ever met. She becomes a very quotable person by several patrons. As she so happily sprays away the germs, she says “washy washy, happy happy” with a big genuine smile. The staff was accommodating and friendly and professional! The food options are nice for just about any dietary restrictions/desires/preferences. However as much as we would like to rave about the food, it was only ok in our opinions. The highlight was Teppanyaki - we didn’t try the steakhouse or Italian restaurant. It was overpriced for the quality of food. By no means are we foodies, but the value just wasn’t there. Cons... Outdoor bars during “at sea days” were super crowded (a couple rows deep) but the indoor bars didn’t have a wait. Beware - lounge chairs are VERY limited on “at sea days”. Get out there early to claim yours! They only offer laundry service - no washers & dryers avail for guests. Communication could have been better for the following THREE things: embarkation (waiting an hour due to prior cruise having trouble getting off boat - facial recognition issue), tendering to private island (1hr wait with zero communication as to why and what the procedure was), and disembarkation (we choose the earliest at 0700 but had zero guidance as to what floor or where to get in line... the line went in a complete circle from the back of ship to the front and we disembarked from the back. It was chaos! We didn’t know where to go or how long we would be waiting, once there. Our last gripe is a big one. The duration at port in st Thomas was drastically too short. Our excursion to St. John and trunk bay was excellent but it took up the entire time. We got back at 1pm and stood in line to board the ship by 1:30. We had no time to pick up a souvenir. The comedians were great and the broadway show (about drag queens) was quality but a touch on the inappropriate side. Overall we enjoyed, and while we would keep our options open to trying a different cruise line, we would go again in the future. Read Less

This was a sort of last minute cruise (booked end of January for 3/30-4/6 cruise). Despite all that was happening in regards to the Epic, we were going on this cruise to relax and that we did. Embarkation: We pulled into the pier parking lot at 10:10, dropped off are luggage, breezed thru security and check in (boarding group 10)and took a seat to wait. At 11:00 they announced that embarking was delayed due to passengers from prior cruise still being on the ship. Most likely caused by the facial recognition they were using when disembarked. With all that, we were on the ship, in our swimsuits in H2O with a drink at 12:30. Ports: Did not get off the ship in Tortola or St. Thomas as we had done those before. We were able to stop at Great Stirrup Cay. We had tender in group 2 and from time they called our group til we got on the island was 35 minutes. Island was nice, just chilled on the beach as water was a little colder than we like. Food was ok and beverage service was great. We spent most of our days at Spice H2O as we did not get off in 2 of the ports. Did not have problem getting chairs but we were there by 7:30 (we had the continental breakfast delivered at 6:30 every morning). It did get crowded on the sea days and by 10:00 you were hard pressed to find a chair. Never had to wait more than 5 min. for drinks at bar and most times the waiters coming around took our orders . Food: ate at Taste 5 of the nights and never took more than an hour. Food was good except for last night. Prime Rib was ehh. Not a problem just got something at buffett. Room steward took care of our needs. Disembarkation: Best I have experienced. Must have had the facial recognition figured out. Had a 9:00 disembark time. Had breakfast at buffett and went to public area to wait at 8:15. Called our color at 8:25 and were in our car leaving the parking lot at 9:03. Once got thru facial recognition you were considered thru customs. Was a great trip and would sail Epic again Read Less

I chose this cruise for two reasons. 1) we went on the escape 2 years ago for spring break and had an amazing experience. Great food, drinks, service was amazing and workers so friendly. 2) We chose the epic because we liked the itenerary to gsc, Jamaica, grand cayman and Cozumel and were hoping for a similar experience. I want to start off saying it was not a terrible cruise. We had a great time still, but the overall vibe on the ship seemed to be dull and the workers did not seem happy. We even tried additional tipping and it was met with an expectation, not an appreciation, even though we were already tipping a mandatory 20%. The staff also seemed overworked and there were not enough bartenders to handle everyone and in the casino it was very difficult to get a drink. Our balcony room was fine...small, but what was expected. The bathroom set up is strange, but it was fine. We were rarely in our room. Food was good and we enjoyed all three of our specialty dining at cagneys, moderno and tappenyaki. Cirque show was great and we enjoyed burn the floor and Pricilla as well. For excursions I recommend Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel for a beach day. Great value for money and we had a great time there. Read Less

We were on 7 day cruise. A local band from our town, Buffalo NY was on board along with 165 of us also from Buffalo to support them. There's so much to do on the ship, Bingo, Pool activities, complimentary shows/entertainment, they have an awesome sports bar, casino, spa, fitness room, lots to do for the kids! Rock climbing, water slides, tube raft slide, basketball court, ping pong tables, kids buffet, cookies all day long, unlimited self-serve soft ice cream or counter top ordering hard ice cream, kids playroom & kiddie splash park, Most of the staff was super friendly, many food options daily/nightly. Lots of food options for even the picky eater. My party had the unlimited alcohol package - hands down awesome! we also chose the gratuity package. The beds in cabins are very comfortable, room steward was efficient & took care of our needs. Everything was great! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary, we have been to Great Stirrup Cay and Cozumel before and wanted to go back. We had never been to Ocho Rios Jamaica and Georgetown Grand Cayman and were looking forward to seeing both ports. Below are the comments I made at the end on our post cruise survey. I came home feeling relaxed and refreshed, however I didn’t rate as excellent because of a few issues. First, I was very disappointed with the communication by ship staff regarding our delay in leaving Port Canaveral. We had only one brief announcement by the captain early in the evening. Second, I was very disappointed in missing Great Stirrup Cay and wonder if part of the reason was our late departure. Third, although we had two lovely meals at La Cucina, there was garbage on the floor beside our table that was left from guests who ate breakfast in the venue. Fourth, because of the location of venues on the ship, movement and flow was very dysfunctional. Because of this we never ventured to eat in The Manhattan Room. Fifth, there was a poor selection of NCL branded items in in a small and hard-to-find gift shop area. Sixth, all of the dining areas were noisy because of proximity to high traffic flow areas. In many of the specialty dining areas they are close to either main dining rooms, buffet, or atrium where the noise level is high and intrusive. There is no quiet tranquil place to dine on this ship. I also have a few positive things to say. First, the Latitudes reception was the best I have ever attended. Second, maître d’s, servers and staff in the dining rooms were helpful, friendly and attentive. Third, I had a wonderful time at the Bliss Karioke event, it was low key and lots of fun! Fourth, it was nice to have deck loungers in an area that was shady all day and still had a great view (near the climbing wall and chessboard). I like cruising with this line, but I probably won’t choose this ship again. Read Less

The only good thing about Norwegian were the excursions, which you can get through other cruises too. Most of my interactions with staff were unhelpful at best and downright rude at worst. There seems to be a very prevalent "not my job" mentality where staff will go out of their way to avoid helping you or answering your questions. The rare few crew members who are actually pleasant are overworked to the point you'll only see them once or twice on your trip. The rooms are tiny and cramped, and if you're tall forget about taking a decent shower. Rooms are services at least 3 times a day, which can be overwhelming and inconvenient when you're trying to relax or rest up after an excursion. It's also a huge inconvenience to have to use a room key in order to use the lights. The shows on the ship are fantastic, I will give them that. If you're unfortunate enough to be on a Norwegian cruise make sure to check those out! Other than the shows though there isn't much to do on the ship except eat and go to the casino. Save your money, cruise elsewhere. Read Less

We have sailed on Carnival twice and Norwegian twice and this will be our last time on Norwegian. Family of four with a 3 year old and 15 year old. PROS -Tortola is beautiful. Do a shared charter -Cagney's and the Brazilian specialty restaurant were exceptional -The 2 Broadway shows were fantastic -Kids splash academy was great -Buffet always had a good selection of items CONS -Way too crowded -Lines every where you went -Good luck finding a drink in less than 30 minutes -Main dining entrees were just so so and slow -Behind scenes tour does not include the engine room -Legendary Kon Tiki boat was a joke and over priced -They skipped the 3rd of 3 stops so we literally were only off the boat about 16 hours total over 8 days SUMMARY The ship is too crowded and there are way too many lines no matter where you go. You will wait forever to get a drink and good luck getting anybody to serve you at the pool area. We tipped our guy $20 out the gate to ensure he came back and we never saw him again. The cabins are cramped and a weird design which wouldn't be a problem if that wasn't the only place you could go to get away from the crowds. There were some highlights though. Tortola is absolutely beautiful. Do yourself a favor and skip the crowds at the baths and book a shared charted with Adventure Charters BVI. That was the highlight of our trip. One of the other downsides of this trip was the fact that we were only in St Thomas for 4 or 5 hours and the lines to get back on the ship were horrible. Norwegian does not know how to move large amounts of people on or off the ship. I'm not sure why they can't figure that out. Read Less

This cruise was not worth the money! Most of the staff were not polite and definitely did not go out of their way to make it a great experience! It would take a very long time to get a drink. I got specialty dining and only got to eat at 2 restaurants in 7 days because I didnt reserve before getting on the ship! All the excursions were also booked and we didnt even get to stop on the last island, the trip to St Thomas was super short and we spent way too long of a time on a ship that was not pleasant to be on! Some of the activities on the ship for the kids were extra charges and not included. The ship is poorly organized and the dissembarkation was a complete nightmare and made no Sense...the only good experience was our housekeeper Andres who was helpful and pleasant! Read Less

This was my 15th cruise, 3rd with NCL. We chose this particular Spring Break cruise to join family with grandchildren. The shows we saw ("Priscella Queen of the Desert" & "Burn the Floor") were the best I've seen on a cruise ship. Loved them. Wish we had known to make reservations for Cirque Du Soleil as soon as we got on board, before muster call. We couldn't get into that one. The food was OK. The service in the restaurants and bar areas was really spotty. Sometimes we had good service but at several meals the waiters acted as if it were an inconvenience to take our order. A large number of guests seemed to have drink packages. I had to wait in line as much as 15 minutes at the bar to get a glass of wine. The food at the Brazilian style Moderno specialty restaurant was quite nice. The main reason for my 2 star review was the debarkation "process". We did the "easy!!!" self assist in order to meet our shuttle to Orlando International. So did everyone else. It was pure chaos with no organization. Everyone was confused and asking which deck to go to. It was not published anywhere in the handouts nor on the TV information channel. The crew we asked gave us different answers. We ended up lugging our suitcases downstairs (30 minutes prior to debarkation time estimate) since the elevators were packed in both directions. By the time the cruise director announced "Deck 7" for self assist the crowd was out of control. We were directed to one "line" that extended from the front of the ship to the back. The "line" went down the entire length of the ship, around the dining room, outside and then back up to the front of the ship. Another "line" went roughly from the back to the front of the ship. There were almost no crew there to organize the lines. We saw only 1 crew member at the front and 1 at the back of the ship. It was a complete free-for-all with passengers coming down the elevators jumping in front of irate passengers that had been queued up for 45 minutes. IT TOOK 1-1/2 HOURS JUST TO GET OFF THE SHIP. The delays were totally on board. Customs and immigration were not backed up. We tipped a porter and went straight thru. The debarkation experience ruined the trip. Read Less

Well, we didn't crash or lose engines... but we could not WAIT to get off this crappy ship! Food: MDR food was awful & the selection was like ordering food at Cracker Barrel, but with worse service. (Epic is understaffed, and it shows... everywhere) Fried chicken, cornbread, short ribs, pot pie, bbq pork, rotisserie chicken, steak with fries??? Where is the seafood?? Pathetic! We gave the MDR 2 honest shots before we settled for the buffet on the nights we didn't have specialty dining. We enjoyed Moderno & Teppanyaki, but La Cucina was a joke. After waiting nearly 2 hours for our meal then receiving 4 dime-size pieces of chicken in my carbonara, we walked out and settled for the buffet. The buffet was just ok. Though I got tired of eating the same crap breakfast every morning, and the soggy limp bacon. The lunch selections were a tiny bit better. Tacos! We liked the pizza for the first couple of days, then they switched to some weird square school cafeteria style pizza. Just gross. Everything was overcooked, except the bacon. O'Sheehan's was good, and the soup station at the buffet was fantastic! I had pork soup with rice noodles and veggies. Bar/drink package: We knew it was Spring Break, obviously because we had our kids with us, so we were prepared to wait for drinks by the pool. But, Epic is very understaffed, and if our drink package wasn't "included" in our booking, then I would be asking for a refund. No matter which bar I went to there was a long wait for drinks. Honestly, I've never had to wait at a bar for a drink on a cruise ship. There are usually servers walking around taking orders! I wish I could have found a server to tip! As I said, Epic is really understaffed. I'm pretty sure they offer the crappiest coffee-ever so that you'll be willing to pay for a good cup of coffee. Which should be included in the "ultimate drink package", IMHO. Nickel & Dime Poolside entertainment: The band was just ok, but only if you were standing/dancing in front of them. We were lounging by the pool most days (since we had 4 sea days), and we couldn't hear the music, only the dude singing... and it was like hearing really bad drunk karaoke being screamed into a mic. Y'all, no joke... he was terrible. I had to leave at one point because I was getting a headache. Entertainment: Burn the Floor was completely reserved by the time I thought about booking our spots, so we didn't get to see that. We weren't paying extra for Cirque Dreams, bingo, or bowling so not sure about that. (nickel & dime) We weren't interested in Priscilla or the escape room, so we were pretty much left with Headliners comedy. They were pretty funny, especially in the adult only show. We thought the Skyy Ice Bar was worth the money for the experience. Someone farted while we were in there, so we (even the bartender!) evacuated early. Fortunately, already tossed back our drinks and we were freezing, so we were ready to leave! Ports: We loved The Baths & snorkeling at Tortola! We couldn't have asked for a better experience! Beautiful & lots of fun! St. Thomas was beautiful also, and we were lucky to be some of the first ones at Magen's Bay beach. Our teen boys had a blast swimming around, and their favorite part was seeing sea turtles swim very close to them! Too bad we had to leave by lunch to ensure we'd be back on the ship by 2. I wish we could have stayed at St. Thomas longer... especially since we didn't get to stop at GSC. 4 sea days is too many for us, we discovered... especially when the bars, food, and entertainment sucks! Overall, we were disappointed in this cruise, and I wish I would have chosen a different ship. We will NEVER book Epic again, and probably not ever again with NCL either. Nickel & Dime... and NOT worth the money. We could not wait to get off this boring crappy ship!! Read Less

We choose this cruise because it coincided with my stepdaughter's Spring Break and she really wanted to go to the Bahamas. We had been to Bermuda aboard the Norwegian Breakaway two years prior and really loved it - Splash Academy (the kids program), the dining, the ship amenities, the staff...great. This is the review I tried to send Norwegian for this cruise's experience: If this was my only experience with Norwegian, I would definitely not cruise with Norwegian again. Having had a good experience on our prior cruise, I still think I would probably strongly consider another cruise line. When I initially booked my cruise, things were fine. Then, I called in to talk about free at sea offers, of which we were entitled to two per room (we had two rooms, which had to be handled as separate reservations, which was a problem several times, as well). In addition to having to hold for excessive amounts of time (45 minutes to an hour), I then had to deal with a bored sounding not very nice person before eventually getting that straightened out. Wifi is worthless and the gratuities on other options make "free" a bit of a misnomer. We decided to book excursions at 2 out of 3 of our ports. Could not complete this online. Had to call in. Another lengthy wait. They were able to see the excursions in my cart, but the payments wouldn't process online, had to do over the phone. Had to go through entire process twice to get both rooms signed up. Later decided to book Cirque experience. Glad we did, as it was one of the most fun things on the cruise. However, even booking in advance of the cruise (another lengthy phone wait), the early showing was sold out and we had to opt for the later showing which was rough on our daughter. I was transferred from excursions to restaurant reservations because I had decided to make a reservation for the first night for the Manhattan Room because we had enjoyed it so much the first time we cruised on Norwegian. I made a reservation which I was able to see on NCL.com and in the app, until the day of the cruise when I couldn't see anything on either because everything reset. Likewise, the Manhattan Room had no record of our reservation. And, like everything else, once on the ship, no reservations were available for anything. The only times we could do specialty dining were noon on port days or 10pm on other days. 10pm does not work for people cruising with children who are in bed at this time. I tried this literally as soon as the touch screens were working. I don't know why you bothered having people advertise the restaurants since there were no convenient reservations to be had. Thankfully, we learned that the way to get in to Taste and the Manhattan Room was to get there half an hour before they opened. Otherwise, it was 45 minute + wait times with beepers - if I wanted to go to the Olive Garden, I wouldn't have spent money on a cruise. We had several very good restaurant service people (Denny and Jefferson in the Manhattan Room were the best), but we had a lot of mediocre service too. The whole experience of the cruise was crowded with tired-seeming, overworked, uncaring staff. The Splash Academy staff were good and helped our daughter have a good time on the cruise, but even that, the lines were insane and if you didn't get everywhere and stand in line forever, you got bumped out. In terms of shows, we had already signed up for Cirque, but had wanted to do Escape the Big Top. Completely sold out by the first evening, and that was something we couldn't pre-book. They added sessions for the sea day for our third port being cancelled due to weather, but the first one was at 10:00, wasn't available on the touch screens or in room system, and when I called guest services, they said to book with the box office, which didn't open until 10:00. Super helpful. Instead, my daughter and I went to the painting in Headliners. We were the second people out and waiting, and almost got locked out of it, because there was no signage or staff member or note in the Freestyle Daily to note that you had to sign up ahead of time! We were literally the last two people to get in to the session. Pretty ridiculous. Speaking of Headliners, one of the things we loved on our first cruise on the Breakaway was the Second City Improv - I think we went four different times. The comedians this week in Headliners were chuckle inducing, but...not anything to write home about. The cruise director was missing in action most of the time except photo and video ops. Disembarkation was a complete disaster. We did self-assist/independent/carry our own luggage and were ready to exit the ship promptly in the morning. We stood in confusing lines for over an hour with no staff directing the process or even just being a friendly face. There was one person helping those in wheelchairs, and that is literally the only staff member we saw until we were at the keycard checkpoint by the gangway. Ridiculous. I understand that this was a Spring Break week and the ship was at capacity, but really, it should be staffed appropriately. If you can't handle this volume, build smaller ships and focus on doing things well. I would have added that this ship does not have a great layout. For example, the Spa is on the same level as Splash Academy, but getting between these areas is challenging - minimal signage/maps, only one hallway that works. The bathrooms in the staterooms are not meant for anyone tall/fuller figured. And the frosted glass on them and the shower is better than nothing, but isn't ideal for adults sharing rooms with children or non-intimate partners. Oh, and my 6'5" husband's feet well overhung the end of our bed. And having two separate beds for my mom and stepdaughter in our other room? Made up separately, yes, but with a gap of four inches, maybe, between them. Read Less

We choose this cruise because the schedule worked for my daughters spring break from school and we have sailed Norwegian before and had a good experience on past cruises. This one, however, was pretty terrible, first off, it was a 'full ship' and that is all well and good if they were prepared for a full ship. The check-in proton was pretty smooth but you could tell the agents checking you in were running at full capacity and a few extra windows open could have sped things along a bit and lightened the workload of the agents that were there. Once on the ship, it was apparent that ALL the shows and entitlement was sold out on the touch screen displays and this was seconds after boarding. We booked the Cirque show weeks in advance or would have had no shows what-so-ever. The onboard staff seemed very overwhelmed and disorganized and we were told 'don't worry it'll be smoother in a few days'. We had also booked reservation weeks in advance for the Manhattan Room for our first night of dining that mysteriously disappeared. The specialty restaurants were booked and impossible to get into. Shows that couldn't be booked ahead of time like the Escape the Big Top was somehow booked up the instant we walked on the ship, to note a port of call was canceled (Great Stirrup Cay) and an additional Escape the Big Top for that day was added for 10 am and could only be booked through the box office which didn't open until 10 am :\ The Cabin was very tight and it did not have a bathroom, it had a shower and a toilet that was separate and at the entry door to the cabin. I am 6'5" and nearly 300lbs and I could not close the toilet door when I sat down. The shower and toilet area had a curtain you could draw in order to help with privacy but didn't do much. The bed was too short and my legs hung off making it impossible to get a decent night sleep. Dining staff's attitude varied greatly, some did their jobs well and made the service fun some could have cared less and basically tossed plates on the table and didn't interact. In summary, this was by far the worst Norwegian cruise I've been on, it was my third and most likely my last. Read Less

I live close to Port Canaveral and chose cruise because I wanted to go to jost van dyke. The food was great, better than royal Caribbean and in particular the specialty dining was the best I have ever had. The checkin was very smooth and uneventful. The balcony was larger than expected. The room was a little tight, but got used to it. A lot of storage if you look. The room was clean and well maintained. The bathroom shower set up took a little bit of getting used to but not a problem. The ship is not the best configuration, but it worked. My granddaughter had a great time. The bars were crowded, but it was spring break. And drink pagages added to it. Let just say complainers will always complain and look for the worst, but I was very pleased overall. The crew was better than Royal Caribbean by far. Royal has gotten very cheap. No lotion etc. norweigen was actually better. Who ever designed the ship should be thrown overboard. The worst comment I have was the disenbarkment. No crew could explain the mess that occurred. If ever runs the logistics of getting off the ship should be,fired. But other than that we had a great time. Read Less

Been with Norwegian for 5 cruises. It was an easy decision to sail with them again. This was our big vacation for the year. I sailed with my two children 16 and 10 also with my sister and nephew. The room was small but ok. Not enough plugs and not enough shelving. But not bad overall. Nice balcony. Entertainment was terrible. Priscilla queen of the desert was horrid. Not good at all. It was not the show content it was the show it self. We tried the Circ show and where our seats where the kids could not see and the service was terrible inside the show. Service on this ship was terrible with very few bright spots. The pool area was overcrowded, drunk spring breakers, not enough chairs and slides were closed down at the drop of the hat. The last day on ship we were supposed to stop at the private beach for Norwegian but the Captain stated that the weather had turned and that the waves were not cooperating. After speaking to several couples that had been turned away the last three cruises they had been on it is apparent that Norwegian has an issue that needs to be addressed. That ruined the entire trip for us as we already had 3 sea days to deal with and then this added another. We also did not leave Port Canaveral until almost 1000 pm due to maintenance that needed to be done. That happened again leaving another port late again. There was a fight at the pool and I was frightened for the safety of my child. It was not good. Read Less

I was a little nervous about cruising on the Epic because of the many mixed reviews. We booked a 5 night cruise to Cozumel & Great Stirrup Caye (Norwegian's Island) because it was a really great price. We were in cabin 14048 which is a "Family Mini Suite Balcony" cabin. We were right around the corner form The Splash Academy so I was a little worried about noise. My husband and myself have NEVER slept as good on any other cruise! No noise at all. Our room was at the end of the hallway (I think there were only 2 cabins passed ours) and I think that greatly reduced the traffic by our cabin. The close location to The Splash Academy was perfect for my 10 year old. Being on the 14th floor we were one floor away from The Garden Cafe, pool, arcade & Entourage (Teen Club) which was convenient for all of us especially my 13 year old who had a blast in the Teen Club. Yes the elevators were slow at times & we chose to mostly take the stairs to help burn off all the fantastic food we were eating. But at other times we easily got onto an elevator when heading down to decks 5,6 & 7 for dinner. The first night we ate at Moderno which is a Brazilian-style steak/meat restaurant (we had the upgraded dining & adult drink pkg included). It was great & we over ate for sure! The next night we ate at LeBistro, the French restaurant. We both were tired from being in the sun all day at sea and we almost did not go as we are not big fans of French food. We were both so glad we went! The food was AMAZING! We loved it so much that we made reservations for the next night & invited our relatives to join us (we treated them since they did not have the dining pkg). We had the escargot & warm goat cheese salad, filet & sole & the most amazing desserts! The second night was just as amazing as the first. We also ate at Wasabi for sushi. It was soooooooo good! The Rock N Roll roll was amazing!! So great that we ate their a send time as well. We did not eat in the two main ding rooms, but our family did and they said it was good but a little slow on the service side (2.5 hrs for dinner). We ate several times in the Garden Cafe and it was all very good. Even when it was busy we never had a hard time finding seats. We did not see any of the shows as my family was not interested in them but I heard other passengers raving about them. The Cavern Club has an outstanding Beatles cover band & it is a cool bar to chill out with friends after dinner. The martini bar made amazing drinks!!! Now about the pool bar "Waves".....as previous reviewers have mentioned, the line was insane & seemed to move very slow. That is not to say that the bartenders were not working hard (they worked non-stop) but it was just too busy for the few bartenders they had. You could get pre-mixed frozen drinks from a cart & that line was usually much shorter. Our drink pkg was included but if I had paid for it I would have been upset at the time I would have to spend getting drinks on sea days while laying out in the sun. We are not big drinkers so one drink during the day was fine for us. We happened to be on a ship with an overwhelming amount of college Spring Breakers. I had expected it to be over run with young children, but not 2 thousand 20 year olds. For the most part they were pretty respectful. By 5:00 in the afternoon there were hundreds of drunk guys & gals dancing & grinding on the pool deck, but that's when we go in to get ready for dinner so it did not bother us too much (just trying to walk through them with my two children to get to our room was a little annoying). The other thing I realized is that I am now an old lady & am completely unaware that 20 somethings show their entire rear-ends these days in their bathing suits. Having a 10 & 13 year old boys it was a little uncomfortable & I wanted to put blinders on my 13 year old (although I am SURE he was LOVING the scenery). LOL The cabin (which seems to be a big sticking point with other reviewers) was fine for us. A little tight since we are a family of 4 but not too bad. The bathroom set up was totally fine with us. I love the toilet & shower being separate so two can use them at the same time. I also loved the shower having doors. Previous cruises I am always grossed out when the moldy plastic shower curtain touches me. Mariced our cabin steward was very nice & our room was always clean & stocked with ice. All of the staff we encountered were always smiling & happy to help (the Washy Washy girls were our favorite!). I never had a problem getting lounge chairs on the deck, but we are an early to bed early to rise family. I did see others looking for chairs after 10:00 a.m. The main problem is that people save 10 chairs and then leave for several hours. On the 2nd sea day the staff started putting stickers with times on them. I am also a courteous passenger & only save 3 seats for our total of 7 in our group. The kids did not need a chair & my hubby only stays in the sun for an hour or so. Other passengers were not as courteous. We did the Passion Island beach excursion. It was nice. The all inclusive drinks were not very strong but the service was great. I never had to go to the bar to get a drink as a fella came by every few mins (which was nice because the glasses were tiny). We just hung out on the beach at Great Stirrup Caye. My sister-in-law booked paddle boards for my boys. They have never paddle boarded before & unfortunately the staff that rented them gave no instruction. They did not inform us (maybe they did not know) that there was an extremely strong current before you reach the bouy markers that you were not suppose to pass. My 10 year old was carried out very far & between the wind & current he could not turn around (he had no instruction on the bast way to do so either). A life guard (who was VERY nice) saw him in distress and jumped on a jet ski & towed him in. Obviously he was very upset & shaken. Doubt he'll want to get on a paddle board ever again. This was 100% on Norwegian as this is their island & it is staffed by crew members. When we attempted to inform Guest Services about it we were told "go to the Excursion Desk" which is directly across from Guest Services and the staff member could clearly see that no one was there (it was the last day & there was no one working the Excursion Desk because there were no more excursions). We were not asking for our money back or a credit. We only wanted to make them aware of the liability & hope that this will not happen to someone else on a future cruise. That was pretty disappointing. That incident aside, we truly did enjoy our cruise and the food. We liked the boat even if it's set up and deck plans are a little odd compared to others. For the price it was a great deal. Read Less

Embarkation process was very slow, the Lady helping us check in didnt seem to be very knowledgeable on anything i asked. she wasnt too sure of what floor the food was being serviced and just handed me a map and said "it should be on here you can look for it". the ship itself was very nice. the cabin's layout was not very logical. the bathroom was not a separate room and if you want to get dressed you have leave you clothes on the floor because there is no counter behind the counter to lay your clothes on. all the dining experiance we had was TERRIBLE SERVICE. i have been on numerous cruises (with other company's) and have never had such terrible service as i did with Norwegian.teh servers in all dining areas never made eye contact with you and would vanish before you can even ask them for butter (which was not on our table) or ask them for anything. they would take your order and then leave. they were never present for you in case you needed something. we cruise in a party of 12 and everyone in my party had the same experience! TERRIBLE SERVICE. the bar by the pool was VERY UNDERSTAFFED it took me one time 45mins to get a drink. there were no pool attendants walking around getting drink orders. at the pool there was only two bartenders at the bar i remember their names clearly because i received the worst service from them! Edgar and i believe Noely. i asked like three times for a lemon and the flat out ignored me. they took others drink order before mine and i was there for 45mins! i had my uncle and aunt come up to the bar and they aswell made no eye contact and then said " your key card does not work" yet i had saw him take drink orders and not even scan some key cards from other people. i then had to go all the way down to customer service and come to find out there was nothing wrong with my card at all!!! the crew members on the ship were not knowledgeable with the ship, they did not know where bathrooms where and also seemed to have difficult with the language barrier. i also had a massage service done, the massage it self was ok, but the lady kept making noise by the sink and spent more time "preping" the creams to apply on me then actually massaging me. she seemed new and also not knowledge with the performance of the service she was giving me.
