Chose this cruise primarily for the ports of call. Cannot really fault NCL and The Epic at all as everything was excellent for us. The staff, organization, food and entertainment was all first class. We left Barcelona to Naples > Rome > Livorno > Cannes > Palma > Barcelona. All excursions were first class but if you want to really explore then I suggest the full day options. We visited Pompeii,Pisa and Cannes and all were amazing.Embarkation was stress free and easy as was the disembarkation which all went like clockwork. There is an option to self assist with luggage but we chose the colour coded system which allows you to put all your cases outside your room the night before you get off the ship and it was all so easy.We were in stateroom 14141 on the 14th floor and it was also excellent. Great housekeeper in Wilfred and room was kept spotless.Met some really nice passengers from all round the world and everyone was so approachable including all ship management. We paid upfront for the premium drink package and gratuities and it really is worth looking at that option. Definitely would consider NCL and the Epic again. Loved every minute of it. Read Less

I chose this holiday to take all my family who live in different parts of Europe on a cruise where we could all be together. The poor things outweighed the pluses , I would never do it again. The pools were inadequate, too many people using a small area . many of the guests refused to let their children use them. This should have been the centre stage for the trip but it wasn't comfortable. Always packed and difficult to find chairs. No crew bothering to see who were not using the beds occupied all day with towels which weren't used. The cabins were Ok but that's all. Food was fine, no complaints. Embarkation and disembarkation excellent. Entertainment good. The problem with this ship is that the on deck facilities aren't sufficient for the number of passengers. Had that been better then it would have made a huge difference to our holiday. We also had some issues relating to NCL general terms and conditions and found their later dealing with our complaint unsatisfactory. There were always long queues at guest relations desk so if you needed the simplest of requests or answers you had to expect a long wait. NCL should invest in better on deck facilities and give their Guest relations teams both on board and in London better training in customer service. Our children enjoyed the rides and there were many good things about the ship. yet as I stated the bad outweighed the good. Irregular Kev Read Less

We did the Norwegian Epic cruise out of Barcelona, Spain on July 14 - July 21, 2019. To be honest, I was very apprehensive about the cruise after reading so many negative reviews on cruise critic BUT it was WONDERFUL!!! In fact, I joined cruise critics roll call and was able to gain a lot of insight from other travelers on what to do and things that others had learned. We are avid cruisers and Disney is one of our favorite cruise lines but we decided to do Norwegian because of the price. I will attempt to give an overview. We boarded in Barcelona. We took a cab from the airport to the port. It was a fixed price of 36 or 39 euros. Check in was so smooth and fast! I did the on-line check in prior to us leaving and it was one of the fastest check-ins that I have experienced. The ship was very well maintained. I did not see dirty or stained areas. We were on floor 8 in a balcony cabin. I did not care for the lay out of the room but we only got ready and slept in the room. There were 3 of us in our cabin. I did not like the frosted shower-like doors for the toilet area but we lived with it. Once again, we just got ready and slept in the room. The dining was amazing. We had 3 free specialty dinings (for the first 2 of us) and we paid for my daughter. We ate at La Cucina, Le Bistro, and Cagney's. The food and service was superb. This was our first time to ever do any extra charge restaurants because I think you already have so much on a cruise, but since it was free, we tried it. I will say we loved it!! You felt so special, at ease and relaxed and knew you had one-on-one service. BUT, there free dining is also amazing. There is such a variety of foods. The buffet had a different them each night. (Mexican, Mediterranean, Grilled, Italian and I don't remember the others.) Also, there was a person making fresh, made to order crepes at the buffet. That may have been all nights but I used it Tuesday - Thursday for sure. Everyone in the dining rooms and dining areas were very attentive. The dining rooms and buffet areas were beautiful. They all had windows where you could look out and view the water. The front dining room at The Garden Cafe buffet was beautiful and all windows. LOVELY VIEWS!! The food reminded me of when we first started cruising 20+ years ago and that was what you looked forward to. I cannot give an honest opinion of the activities because we were off the ship each day in port and by the time we came back, got ready, and ate, we were ready to crash for the night. We did go to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, but left. I knew it would have drag queens but there were too many other things that I felt were inappropriate and were not for me nor my family. We did see a comedian and he was funny but they really needed to use a larger venue because we were packed into one of the areas and there was standing room only. We missed Burn the Floor and we choose not to do Cirque Dreams because we did not want to pay for a show. We saw the Beatles Mania show and it was enjoyable. Our cabin steward was very nice and always checking on us. He checked with us each day to see if everything was OK and if there was anything that we needed. I did want extra blankets and when we got back to the room, they were on our bed. Everyone on the ship, from guest services to the gift shops, seemed pleasant and friendly. I know some people asked about laundry and ironing of clothes. They have a laundry service on the boat but of course it is high. On Wednesday, there was a flyer in the room that advertised that you could fill a bag with clothes and they would be washed and returned to you by Friday. The cost was $19.95. We did fill a bag with our underclothes and tshirts and they were washed and back in the room by Friday evening--all for $19.95 You do have to write the special or promotion on the bag of laundry in order to receive it. I will try to give a run down of what we did each day. We did not book any excursions through Norwegian. We used outside tour companies that were less expensive and fewer people. I gave them a poor on shore excursions because of the prices. I learned this a few years ago when we did a cruise around the Greek Isles. Day 1, we embarked on Sunday in Barcelona and Day 2, Monday was a day at sea. Thank goodness for that!! We were exhausted after our flight from the US. We slept in and just roamed around a little on Monday. Every other day, you are at a port. The day of rest helped us--- I don't know if I could have gotten on in Civitavecchia and then had to do ports with no rest, if I could have made it! Day 3 - Tuesday was Naples Italy. We used Italy Tours and booked Pompeii, Sorrento, and the Amalfi Coast. There were 14 people in our van and it was wonderful. Our driver met us at the port, we loaded into the van and started our tour. We got back to Naples about 1 1/2 hours before we had to be on board, so there was time to go into Naples if you wanted. Day 4 - Civitavecchia (Rome)--We did not book a tour because we visited Rome for several days in 2016 so we did our own thing. We got off the ship and there were many people at the port where you could book tours or take a bus to Rome. We got on one of the Smart Tours buses and once the bus was full, they brought you to Rome. You were dropped off at a point near the Vatican and then they gave you a time to be back and the bus picked you back up at the same spot and brought you back to Civitavecchia to board the ship. The cost was 23 or 25 euros per person and you had to pay cash. They did not accept credit cards. When we got on the bus, it was almost full so we only had to sit about 15 minutes before leaving. From what I heard, some people sat on the bus almost 1 hour waiting for others to get off the ship and board. You may want to keep that in mind. Italy Tours had some small group tours for Rome but since we had spent several days here a few years ago, we just walked and revisited some of our favorite things and took our own tour. :) We stayed far away from the Vatican that day because it was Wednesday and the Pope was doing mass so it was VERY CROWDED. Make sure to get gelato. This will help cool you off and Rome gelato is so very good. Day 5 - Livorno - We did a small group tour with Italy Tours. There were 7 of us in our group plus the driver. We did the tour called the Best of Florence and Pisa. Our driver met us at the small port (it was very easy to find him) and we went to Pisa first and then to Florence. We got to Pisa by 8:15 and the first group allowed to climb the Leaning Tower of Pisa is not until 9:00 so we were able to get our tickets and be in the first group to climb the tower. Walking and viewing the grounds was great! It was a highlight for us to be able to climb to the top of the tower. After doing this, I would suggest being in the beginning groups. The lines get longer as the day goes on and it gets HOTTER!! Also, you could not bring any bags in the tower. You had to lock purses and backpacks up in a secure area before climbing the tower. We then went to Florence and met up with a guide and were put with some other group for this guide. Florence was beautiful and even with the other group, we were still only 15 and our guide. Our tour company offered to add the skip the line tickets, which we purchased, and went to the academia to see the original David. The additional group of people that we joined up with in Florence did have an elderly lady who had trouble walking and keeping up and those persons eventually left the tour and said they would go on their own. Florence is an amazing city--the bridge with the shops on it is just amazing. Day 6 - Cannes - We did not do a tour with an outside company (but if you start early enough, you should be able to). You have to tender into Cannes. Make sure to book your tender early and don't waste 1/2 day on the ship waiting to catch a tender to get off. Once in Cannes, we went to Monaco. You can take a train from Cannes to Monaco and it is about a 50 minute ride. If you decide to do this on your own, here are a few tips that we learned the hard way! :) To get to the train station, once you walk out of the port area and get to the main road, take a right. When you get to the Cannes tourism office (it is a big mirrored building on the right), take a left onto the street that is across from the tourism office. You will walk several blocks down that road and then you will see the train/bus station. If in doubt, ASK. Once inside, DO NOT try to use the kiosk to buy your own tickets. Go in the station and go to the ticket office to the left (it is inside more glass doors and it has a working AC). Once inside, pull a number ticket and wait for your number to come up and then ask the agent to help you buy a ticket to Monaco. It was 36 euros for all 3 of us. BEFORE you board the train to Monaco/Nice, make sure you find the yellow VALIDATION machine and validate your ticket. I think you get in major trouble if you do not validate your ticket before boarding. If you don't see a machine, ask someone where to validate the ticket and they will show you. Take the train to Monaco and then follow the signs (brown, historical) to the palace. There are lots of things to see and quaint little shops near that area. We did not go to the casino but that is also available. When you are ready to leave Monaco, you can get off the train in Nice on the way back to Cannes and do some wandering there. We did not do this because we lost time trying to find the train station and getting the wrong kind of ticket and having to switch out. If you have plenty of time, others say this is wonderful to do. We spent all of our time looking around Monaco and then we were having to sprint to make it back to the ship!! Day 7 - Palma De Mallorca - To be honest, when we booked this trip, I had never even heard of this place. I was thinking in my mind that we would probably be so tired from our other tours and adventures, we could just stay on the ship. DON'T STAY ON THE SHIP!!! This place is beautiful. It is the largest island in all of Spain. Once again, we did not book any tour. There are shuttle buses that take you from the port to the town center. BOOK YOUR SHUTTLE RIDE BEFORE SATURDAY MORNING. The shuttle ride from the ship to town is $15 per person. Book your shuttle Thursday night or Friday. If not, you will spend a long time in line on Saturday morning to buy a shuttle ticket. For those who do book their shuttle ticket prior to Saturday morning--when you get off the ship and you see a LONG line of people that look like they are waiting to get on a shuttle, do not go to the end of the line and get in line. These are the people who are waiting to purchase their shuttle ride. Let someone know that you already purchased your shuttle ticket, and they will tell you to go straight to the shuttle bus. Meaning, you will by-pass this long line of people who did not pre-purchase. Once you ride the shuttle, it will bring you into town near the church. There is a hop-on hop off bus tour you can buy here that will bring you around the entire island. I think the HOHO bus tour was 18 euros per person. This island has many sights to see and some amazing shopping. It is beautiful and I think it would be a great place to visit on a future vacation. Once again, this was an AMAZING CRUISE, with amazing food and ports of call. For all of those who are concerned because of the negative reviews, my advice would be to ignore them and go expecting a great time and have an awesome vacation. We loved it and will definitely be trying more Norwegian cruises. Read Less

We choose this cruise as we live on Cocoa Beach and it was leaving from Port Canaveral. It had 6 stops, which is a lot for a transatlantic cruise. The price was right. Staff was great. Very nice and friendly. Our stateroom was kept very clean. The public restrooms on the ship were not kept well. Either they had no soap, no paper or no water. Two elevator banks for a ship with 4000 people is not enough. We spent a lot of time waiting for an elevator. The food in the Taste dining room was not great, but adequate. Food in the specialty dining rooms was excellent. Our stateroom was so small! We had to take turns to get dressed, etc. We have been on many ships, but this room was crowded! The entertainment was great. The problem was to go to many of the events, you had to get there 45 minutes early to get a seat! We had to wait a lot! Read Less

We have done 27 cruises but this has to be the worst designed ship we have sailed on, we picked this cruise for the terrific ports of call which did not disappoint plus NCLs ad 4 FREE AT SEA allowing us a free premium booze package pp. -4 free dinners at a specialty restaurant of choice- Free WIFI- AND $150.00. OBC. well 3 weeks after booking flights hotels etc. we received an email stating NCL was charging my CC $385 for gratuities on the booze dinner package don't know if this is legal paying for services you have not had yet and to add insult to injury you had to pay$3.00. for water as NCL does no cover this even on a premium booze package this seemed to be the theme with NCL nickel and dime you to death for everything. We had a family suite on Deck 13 unlucky for us the cabin as you opened the door had a toilet on the left when I sat down my head hit the wall overweight patrons beware its tight also the shower bath directly across had see thru frosted glass and a stupid privacy curtain connecting both, behind this was an open wash basin in the middle of the circular theme cabin? with a uncomfortable to sit round sofa and a circular bed where your feet hung out the bottom, on the other wall were circular cabinets and hidden electrical sockets underneath on the wall that was very hard to reach the person who designed these cabins and the ships layout should get fired. There were far to many people on this ship 4,200. so there were queues all the time for everything especially the complaints desk on deck 4 if you could find it? as the elevator did not have a deck 4 you had to get off at 5 and walk through the Casino to an escalator down to get to 4, the lines here were unreal the longest was the complaints, we gave up, most of the crew did an excellent job trying to keep the peace but just to many things going wrong to list here. The Buffet food was just the usual and cool I stuck to having fresh made omelets daily which were very good the special dinners were very good especially the Teppanyaki went here twice there again the maître de came with a bill with no charge on it but was he was looking for another tip ? the Italian restaurant you had to go all the way to the front of the ship and walk through the main buffet to a narrow stairway down a deck, the waiter here was quite rude and must have been new as he had no idea what he was doing but the food was good. On the plus side the Asian maître de in the MDR was so helpful the food and service here was excellent considering the size of the dining room also the casino bar is located at the entrance to the MDR so when it opened there was always a queue and everyone in the queue wanted a drink I was amazed at how the Head Barman and his crew served up the drinks and kept a every one happy, extra gratuities we left for this guy. The Beatles show was very good in the main theatre as the cavern club was small and always full up . Also this is the first time ever we never got an evaluation report card to fill in after the cruise. We will be going back to the Celebrity Millennium& Solstice Class ships from now on with fewer people and much better food and service no nickel and dime stuff with them. Read Less

First of all, starting from embarkation we came across with the same problem, again and again, we have Turkish special passport holders which do not require us to obtain a visa for certain countries. We told it each time to the embarkation personnel and passport officers but they cause us to wait sometimes 2 hours in order to get confirmation. Sometimes they do not accept official letters from embassies. So, they must update the visa requirements checklist including special passport holders. As a frequent traveler, I do not want to be treated as a missing visa issue again and again. Because I do not need to have a visa. Furthermore, as a premier guest, we experienced a lot of problems, some restaurant managers trying to tell me that there are 2000 platinum plus members staying on the ship. Therefore they can not give us a priority in the restaurants. Later I learned that this was a total lie. I reported the situation to the general hotel director and asked him that if I can not get any priority why do I need to choose Norwegian again. I received no response. Therefore you can not receive any priority even if you are too loyal to the cruise line. For thermal suite packages, the ship sold more than the available limits in the spa area. Everybody who finds the door open just jumps in. Everybody start having an argument about sitting in lounge chairs. I was assaulted twice by other passengers. I also reported this situation to the general director but nothing changed. The spa personnel most of the time left the door open or some other guests invite others to use spa for free. Therefore the majority f the passengers get really angry for why they paid extra for thermal spa if everybody can jump inside freely. At last, during the disembarkation process, everything becomes chaotic. The ship personnel can able to collect and make passport stamps while we are on the ship and inside the European premises for one week we traveled to Portugal and Spain ports. But they preferred to do EU entry passport stamps on our own during disembarkation at Barcelona. I have to wait a lot of lines, ship exit line, passport stamp line, baggage collection line and taxi stand time. It takes a complete 3 hours. I have been cruised many times but have not seen such a thing in Barcelona for the recent 10 years. I have been many times cruised with Norwegian but their loyalty seems to be nothing more than 2 free special dinners which are limited to 25 USD max order per cabin not per member. I expect them to give unlimited internet or some more dining night for free but once you get platinum, do not try to get higher because once you reach plat plus only thing you get is a dinning chance with an officer as a group of 3-4 staterooms in a main dining room. Especially in this cruise from Cape Canaveral to Barcelona, most of the passengers are really annoyed because only three shows were presented as unique for 15 days. For other days they repeat the shows again and again. Everybody goes to bed at 7 pm after dinner. So we call the ship as a ghost at late times. Epic is a good ship I have traveled with her 4 times in the past. But it was managed well and the level of the service and fun was great. Use to be Burn the floor took a showplace in Manhattan but no more. I have never heard someone playing the piano in the taste also. Furthermore, the waiters are not trained most of them newly joined to the company. Sometimes you have to wait 2-3 hours for a 3-course meal. For even the laundry they keep saying that every day they receive 5000 bags of laundry, they work so hard, they have no time to rest etc. I do not understand why are they acting like this. Read Less

The worst designed ship ever. entertainment was terrific but venues and theatre were too small...long line-ups. yoga ($12) and art classes ($35) cost extra but prices are not listed, line- up at front desk for those (called operator many times, no answer ever). Bottles of water in room are not free - $5 each. Had room attendant clear out the booze and water from the room. If not on a drinks package, You pay US$16,19 and 23 per drink NCL offers daily drink at $9. At the The Garden Cafe on the 15th floor be prepared to be welcomed by a high pitched irritating greeting of “WASHY, WASHY, HAPPY, HAPPY, YUMMY, YUMMY” every single time you enter this place, shame on NCL for needing their staff to act so juvenile. The buffet meals are tepid at best, and staff behind the counter need to be reminded to replenish the food in the serving dishes. The Manhatten and Taste restaurants have the same menus and the smallest portions you have ever seen. Shanghai is the best free restaurant with great service and good sized portions. Half the warm chairs in the Spa weren’t working... and it doesn’t face the sea or anything, not worth the extra $$. Continuous marketing and nickel & diming you. Most surprising: Day 4 newsletter quote: “Very Important Guest Advisory: Additional taxes may apply while in certain ports and whilst the ship is sailing in territorial waters.” : sail route on TV screen showed an unscheduled sail to Rabbat (Morroco). Also, if you’re a Canadian passenger NCL will convert your invoice from $US to $Cdn plus a 3% margin...and charge this to your credit card - another NCL cash grab! Thank goodness I met and enjoyed some great people on this cruise, but that’s a usual experience on any cruise. Forget this ship...There are far better others out there... Read Less

We had never done a trans Atlantic and it won't be out last. Seas were calm and blue the entire trip. We chose this due to the many sea days and access to several unusual ports. A travel partner had relatives immigrate from Madeira and I have family to visit in Seville. Then add on Malaga, Cartagena, Palma, Barcelona and oops forgot Delgato! We had a marvelous lady give us advice about the history and how to see each port to our best advantage. Her chats were so popular they filled the Epic Theater and were broadcast in the Atrium and nearby bar. Staff from top to bottom, beginning to end, were all super friendly and excellent at their jobs. We had many activities to choose every day but mainly we relaxed, visited or people watched. Never were we prodded into participation. Problems in ports were never due to NCL but the number of ships being in small ports at one time. Hopefully limits will be set and held in the future. I left feeling like I had truly seen Spain aND been relaxing at a resort. Read Less

We like ships wth no more than 320O passengers. Have sailed various lines in the last 10 years. Decided to try a bigger ship. A mistake. Too many passengers and too many had complimentary drink package. So the ship, was full of too many drunks, mostly ages 35-55 who were loud, disruptive, particularly in dinner dining rooms. If you don’t have a reservation for dinner you will wait in a line. Couldn’t see a show because you needed a reservation and none available. Ship is a floating bar/casino. Our cabin (category B.B.) was in a good location considering there were only 2 elevators (forward and aft). Cabin design was the worst, many other passengers said the same thing. Entering the cabin the toilet was on one side, shower on the othe. Sink, medicine cabinet was at the foot of the bed. 2ft between foot of the bed and vanity area. Very poor lighting. We were always bumping into each other. Crew was really great and food was better than average. Will never sail this ship again or recommend it Read Less

After reading all the bad reviews of the Epic's February and March cruises, I was very apprehensive about my upcoming April 6 cruise. My worries were for naught. The cruise from Embarkation to Debarkation was very satisfying. Although the ship is huge, it didn't feel any more crowded than the smaller boats I've been on. Elevator wait times were not bad except when shows were finished. The wait for drinks at the bar wasn't bad, no more than 3-4 minutes at times. The specialty restaurants were excellent. The service was impeccable. Not only in the specialty restaurants but also in the free dining rooms. The food at Cagney's was very good, I had the lamb chops. The food and performance of the cook at Tepanyaki was excellent. The food at La Cucina was outstanding. There wasn't a dessert offering at Teppanyaki, I always ordered two appetizers since there was no additional charge. The food at the two free dining rooms was o.k., but the service was excellent. The entertainment was great. Broadway or West End equivalent. Pricilla Queen of the Dessert was not for kids.. It was up there with The Book of Mormon. Burn the Floor was fabulous and thats coming from one who i not crazy about dancing shows. I skipped the ports since I've been to them all before. Not a fan of most of the overpriced activities. Would go again on the Epic. Read Less

We had been on a prior criuse with NCL to Bermuda. This was so much nicer with great staff and wonderful food. The cabin could have been a little bigger because the space between the bed and counter was very narrow. The balcony was big and had two chairs and a small table. No problem with the shower or toilet area. Really don't understand the people that complained about this. Entertainment was very professional and no problem getting a seat. The food was really good, we did choose the upgraded three dinner package. All the restaurants were top notch. The NCL tour was really good and the tour guide Roseanna was very informative about the history and the countryside. It was better than we expected. The smoking is now confined to a small area which makes for a better experience. The ,transportation to the ship and return was well run. Overall a really nice vacation. Read Less

We had fabulous weather. The ports were very nice and of course the crew were exceptional as always on a NCL ship. However, the ship is too large and too crowded to really give everyone the attention they deserve. Embarking was like herding cattle. Not like any haven embarkation I've ever seen. Especially since we are platinum latitudes level. Even though we had a haven suite we were unable to enjoy the haven pool area as it was so crowded and filled with children. The elevators were jam packed. The haven epic club restaurant was fabulous. Staff and food were excellent. In fact I would forego the specialty dining and just eat there if I had to do it over again. There are just way too many haven passengers to make you feel you are getting your money's worth for anything other than the restaurant. The concierge, David, never came to our room to introduce himself or check on our needs. If you visited him at his desk there were often long lines. However, his assistant, Lillian, was fabulous. I gave her the tip. Singh, our Butler was exceptional. He took care of everything we needed and was available anytime I needed something. I did not go to any show. Apparently with so many people you had to make reservations. And some were an extra charge. What is up with that??? Even the musicians and singers at the smaller bars were so crowded you couldn't get a seat. I like the ultimate beverage package but it seems that with so many people having this option the servers are no longer coming to take your drink orders. The lines are so long as a result. All in all I was not impressed and felt I did not get much value for the amount I spent on this cruise. Read Less

The shows we saw ("Priscella Queen of the Desert" & "Burn the Floor") were the best I've seen on a cruise ship. Loved them. Wish we had known to make reservations for Cirque Du Soleil as soon as we got on board, before muster call. We couldn't get into that one. The food was OK. The service in the restaurants and bar areas was really spotty. Sometimes we had good service but at several meals the waiters acted as if it were an inconvenience to take our order. A large number of guests seemed to have drink packages. I had to wait in line as much as 15 minutes at the bar to get a glass of wine. The food at the Brazilian style Moderno specialty restaurant was quite nice. The main reason for my 2 star review was the debarkation "process". We did the "easy!!!" self assist in order to meet our shuttle to Orlando International. So did everyone else. It was pure chaos with no organization. Everyone was confused and asking which deck to go to. It was not published anywhere in the handouts nor on the TV information channel. The crew we asked gave us different answers. We ended up lugging our suitcases downstairs (30 minutes prior to debarkation time estimate) since the elevators were packed in both directions. By the time the cruise director announced "Deck 7" for self assist the crowd was out of control. We were directed to one "line" that extended from the front of the ship to the back. The "line" went down the entire length of the ship, around the dining room, outside and then back up to the front of the ship. Another "line" went roughly from the back to the front of the ship. There were almost no crew there to organize the lines. We saw only 1 crew member at the front and 1 at the back of the ship. It was a complete free-for-all with passengers coming down the elevators jumping in front of irate passengers that had been queued up for 45 minutes. IT TOOK 1-1/2 HOURS JUST TO GET OFF THE SHIP. The delays were totally on board. Customs and immigration were not backed up. We tipped a porter and went straight thru. The debarkation experience ruined the trip. Read Less

Only short cruse available to book at the time. Glad it was only 4 day. Made friends with some first time cruisers. ran into them later; talk about being disappointed. Told them not all cruise lines were like this. Arrived at pier at 1pm. joined a wait line as long as the ship, no one greeting, no one with info, had to seek out where we could make show and dinner reservations. Service was hit or miss. some crew good some not, Supposed to leave at 8am. called our color, kept us in line for 11/2 hours asked to cut in line to get off. No reason no excuse made . Made our flight by 20 mins. good thing we were tsa pre. smoky casino, supposed to be separate. Get real thats not possible. lots more poor but Im tired of it and this 2nd class line. At least the entertainment was good. Cirque, beatles. burn the floor all good Girl that ran interactive shows was good. Lounge entertainment, guitar and piano were fantastic. Constant pre cruise emails to bid up to a private area. Had the Ultimate Drink Package. Not everything included. Must be a super ultimate somewhere!!! This ship is like the airlines. This cruise was set up for about 150 people by a travel agent who is a member of our fraternal order. It was a great deal, packaging everything into one price (cruise fare, port charges, beverage package and gratuities). Very convenient and a wonderfully great value. There is nothing better than a seven day cruise spent in only 2 ports plus their beach with the rest of the time floating on the sea. The ship was filled with endless activities to choose from, fantastic shows, comedy, entertainment and the largest casino we have seen on a cruise ship. The staff were all friendly and happy to serve us. The dining experience in all the standard restaurants was nothing short of excellent and the food was all up to a nice standard of preparedness, presentation and taste. We have sailed on about 7 different cruise lines and find that Norwegian suits our needs better than most of the others we have sailed. Read Less

We took this cruise to try out the Epic. We were greatly disappointed due to engine problems;;;floor plan of cabin...crowded elevators....crowded garden cafe. We had to wait a long time just to get on ship. Because of engine problens, we were not able to visit the islands of St Thomas. and Tortolla. Also. we were not able to go to Norwegians private island. To top things off. we arrived back at Port Canaveral. The crew worked extra to try to make up for the many problems. the entertainment was not the best. We did enjoy the Beatles presentation. The other to shows were not to our likeing. The food was very good. Many selections allowed us to choose what we liked. The wait staff seemed friendly but always in a hurry. Our cabin housekeeper was fantastic. He cleaned the room promply and alwas was available to help with any concerns Read Less

I chose this cruise because my friend was going to come with me. It would be her first cruise ever and I thought Norwegian was a good starting point. I especially wanted her to see The Baths in Tortola. The cruise didn’t turn out even slightly like I imagined it would. You can look on YouTube for the many videos of the mess that happened on this ill fated cruise. It was awful. We not only missed all of our ports of call, we also missed the Latitudes parties and dinner with an officer. We were told that all of the officer staff was working on the engine problems. I’m sure the hotel manager was very helpful. The only good thing was that we got our cruise fare back as a future cruise credit. The main disappointment was that we were basically kept in the dark about what was happening. When the captain did come on over the intercom, you couldn’t understand anything he said. Luckily the cruise director would often reinterpret what he said into English. We had 3 separate times communicated to us about our arrival into Port Canaveral. People were crowding the reception area trying to change their flights home. It was ridiculous. Disembarkation was unorganized and hectic. The baggage claim area was a zoo. It was the worst ending to a sorry cruise. Read Less

This was the 25th cruise for both hubby and I, and our 4th NCL cruise in the last two years. We booked this cruise because we have been to most ports many times, but had never been to Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay. We flew into Orlando the night before and took an Uber to the port. (about $50) Because of a gangway issue, we waited in line for over 2 hours. It was cold and damp then started to rain. At one point there was no cover. We didn't seem to mind so much, but there were handicapped people with walkers and canes standing and waiting that long. NCL should have had someone out there in the lines to help those people. After finally getting on board, and still in good spirits, we found our room. This ship was built in France and the room layout was very strange. There was a ton of storage, but only one closet had hangers and they couldn't be moved. The room we had was equipped with a jacuzzi tub on one side, and a toilet on the other, both behind frosted glass. We didn't know our room would have a tub and you had to climb into it to shower. After knee replacements and a broken femur, this task was too difficult for me. We had to ask our room steward to get us a stool so I could maneuver in to shower. Having a glass door on the toilet area allowed NO privacy. We have been married for 47 yrs, but still need our privacy! The sink was tiny and in the room. The rest of the room was hard to walk around, very tight spaces. You get used to it after the week, but the layout is strange. On the 2nd day out, the engines trouble started and we sat dead in the water for over 2 hours. This was followed by canceling our ports and changing it to Puerto Rico, instead. We limped to Puerto Rico and got in to port in the late afternoon of day 3. Upon entering the port, we hit the gangways and standing on our balcony we watched them crash into the water. The new ship, EDGE was berthed next to us, and people on that ship cheered as we crashed our way in. ( You can watch this on YouTube.....we are actually standing on our balcony in the video). We stayed overnight in Puerto Rico and left the next day, hopefully with a repaired engine on our way to Great Stirrup Cay. Nope. The original 50% off a future cruise was now upped to 100% because now we were heading back to Port Canaveral...….and we would be 8 hours late. This didn't affect us that much, because our flight back to PHL was the following day. We only had to cancel a car rental and contact friends. Others were in a panic trying to cancel flights and get hotel rooms. NCL did offer $300 per person for flight change charges but the lines to use the phones were hours long. We also had the option of staying on board an extra night, but because of custom laws, everyone had to get off the ship, then come back on. Debarkation, although hectic, was smooth and considering the issues and crowds, not bad. Although this cruise had so many issues, we had a fun time. Everyone was so friendly and every time we got in the elevator there was chatter about what was going on. Many jokes and everyone had a story to tell when they got home. We met so many incredible people who were just going with the flow. Everyone was happy about the 100% future cruise credit and although we did hear that some people were unhappy, we never ran across those people. (They were probably down at Guest Services, complaining). We felt that we had a week of fun, sun, great food, and some great adventures all for free. We will be booking our next NCL cruise soon.....but not on the Epic. Read Less

Friends found deal. Long lines for dinner & shows. Nothing to be had with coffee on deck ( pastries, bagels etc.) before 7:30am. Every major event seemed to be routed through the casino. Smallest pools I've ever seen. Food was good, but not the lines. Service was excellent. Not enough entertainment choices for a 10 day cruise. Only place for any kind of food before 7:30 am was Irish bar on deck 6. Dark and not inviting for a early morning snack. Also, bar is in the middle of smoke smelling casino. Not interested. All in all I cannot recommend NCL with a clear conscience to friends, family, colleagues or anyone else that asks. I will say again, I'm completely turned off about "Freestyle" sailing. Back to the size of the pools. We've been on many ships, NCL Epic has the smallest pools weve ever experienced. On top of that, the pool on the H20 deck (aft) was out of service the last day and a half of the cruise. I don't usually write negative reviews but I was really dissatisfied with NCL Read Less

Price was a deciding factor. We overall did not like this cruise at all. Inside staterooms are awful. No space to put things and lighting was very lacking. NCL has taken lobster, shrimp cocktails and escargot off the dining menu unless you go into a pay restaurant. Food selection in the buffet area was better than the main dining rooms. Never once did the main dining staff ever introduce themselves. You had to go through the smokey casino to get to the dining rooms. One night it smelled so bad that it triggered an asthma attack with one of friends and they missed the next 2 ports. The ship was very clean but configuration was not what we would call convenient. The entertainment was not easy to get into unless you reserved a spot and most were so crowded that it was standing room only. Only saw 1 show and had to stand for most of it. Our form of entertainment was in the atrium and it also lacked seating. We were asked to answer survey questions and voiced our concerns and no one ever got back with us. Ports of call were great...had a blast. Did not go to the private island. In Jamaica we went to Bamboo Beach VIP and had a blast. Food, entertainment, drinks and private beach (only 17 of us) was well worth $99 each as the alcohol was free flowing and potent. Very beautiful area and our tour guide Anne Marie was fantastic. Can't wait to go back but won't be on a NCL ship. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we've never been on a 10-day and we wanted to see Harvest Cay in Belize. Harvest Cay was amazing to say the least. We didn't have one bad day of weather except for the last day at Sea with Gale force winds returning to FL. This was our 12th cruise with NCL and we were very disappointed with the Latitudes Members Group. No announcement of the cocktail party, & the Cruise Next deals are not as good as they have been in the past, so we didn't book another one. We thoroughly enjoyed and had great relationships with the Photography staff, especially Marco. Not too "salesy", and always too great pics of us! The buffet was great with a lot of variety at each meal. It would be nice if the pool deck food bars would open sooner for lunch on "At sea days" and close breakfast earlier. People were always waiting for lunch there. Read Less

We just got off a 10 day cruise on the Epic. Just thought I'd share a few things with the group..... We booked this cruise because of the ship (we had been on the Epic previously and love her!) and the length of the cruise......we had been to all the ports a couple times so we figured we'd get off if we felt like it, or not, so we felt no pressure to run around all over the place if we chose to just stay on the ship. I enjoyed that feeling of relaxation! Our cruise stopped at the usual suspects.....Jamaica, Grand Caymen, Belize, Cozumel, Costa Maya......we were supposed to stop at the NCL private Island (which we've been to before) but couldn't get in due to rough waters.....so we had an extra sea day which we enjoyed. Our favorite port was by far Costa Maya....they have an area for only cruise ships that was really done nicely, with shops, a pool, restaurants and bars, alot of activities and things to do and see. It was great! They had added so much since we had seen it a few years ago! Had a great time there! The best snorkeling I've ever experienced is in Cozumel.....we were told about a place called Money Beach our first trip there and have gone there every time since! It's a short cab ride from the pier and well worth it! Nice restaurant and bar, lounge chairs.....rent snorkeling gear for about $12 for the day and you're all set. Clearest water and the most fish I've ever seen!! Don't even get off the ship in Grand Caymen unless you just want to go to a beach or shop. Nothing much there IMO. Same goes for Jamaica, we got off to go to Margaritaville where we had some fun years ago, but it's really changed. Wouldn't go again, very run down, no fun, terrible service!! We're not fans of Belize either, but this time it was nice because they built a private Island which was nice, so we enjoyed it this time. Nice beach, pool with swim-up bar, shops, etc.......no comparison to Costa Maya but along the same lines. Now for the ship...... We are in the minority in that we never spend extra money to upgrade our cabin because it's just not worth it to us.....we are never in it but to shower, change and sleep!! So we keep our inside. We like to be up on the deck for breakfast, the pool, etc., we aren't they type to sit in our room by ourselves and look out at the ocean from our balcony, we like to be among the people! So my critic is for the inside cabin..... Don't listen to all the nay-sayers who complain about the set-up of the bath area.....it's no big deal! Yes, the shower, sink and toilet are all separated, but there's a curtain you can pull if you need to which only leaves the sink outside of it, but it worked fine for us. The toilet and shower also of course have their own doors, so who cares?! The room was probably the most spacious on any of the ships, the closet and drawer space was absolutely the best, and there is plenty of cabinet space for toiletries above the sink. If you can get by the unusual bath set-up, it's the best laid out room with the best closet and drawer space for everything we've had, and we've been on many NCL ships!! The food in the main dining rooms has come a long way from years ago. We were extremely impressed with everything we ordered in Taste and Manhattan Room. The buffet is average.....breakfast is breakfast and they had a good variety every morning, it's set up well in that there are quite a few "omelette stations" and they had eggs benedict every day so I was happy! Their breads are amazing, their bakery on all the NCL ships IMO is second to none. Lunch was ok, nothing special I will say for the lunch buffet but they have great chicken salad and they had a taco bar almost every day so that was cool! We ate in Le Bistro and Moderno this time with our two platinum free specialty dinners. Le Bistro wasn't as good as other ships IMO but Moderno was amazing! They have a fantastic soup/salad bar to die for!! My favorite part of the whole meal was the soup (Fiejoada)......unbelievable!! I couldn't wait to get back to that restaurant just for that. Make sure you try it!! Entertainment....the two main shows were not up to par with other ships IMO....but worth seeing......Burn the Floor and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Both interesting but mediocre compared to some other newer ships.....we saw Rock of Ages and Oh What a Night and Blue Man Group on other cruises. Rock of Ages is far and away my favorite, I think it's still on the Breakaway. We love Howl at the Moon so we stopped in there every night they played. The comedian Rodney L. (forget his last name, sorry) was the best I've ever seen, don't miss him!! What else......the casino......not my favorite but large and spread out, not the best selection of slots IMO and way too smokey and smelly when you got near the smoking section. Some of the games I liked were in smoking so I did have to venture in there sometimes but it was horrible!!! All in all, the Epic is one of our favorite NCL ships......we aren't fans of the pool area on the Breakaway class ships.....the Epic has a large area of outdoor tables so you can have breakfast and lunch while at the pool without having to sit in that stupid corridor or inside like on those others. That's a big deal to us, so I would choose the Epic, the Dawn, and others over that Breakaway class all day long!! Read Less

We set out to have a relaxing cruise as we often do (17 to date). Norwegian Epic is a huge ship with 19 decks. The speaker system is loud everywhere and both had daily headaches from the noise. Most announcements could not be understood due to the loudness. We heard this complaint from several passengers. The ship layout is very odd. There are elevators and stairs at both ends of the ship but none in the middle so be prepared to walk a long way to go anywhere on another deck. We stood in lines for everything we did on board. Most times we could not get into entertainment in the Comedy Club and other small venues. This is a Freestyle cruise ship so that means reservations for everything. We went to the dining room to make reservations and were told that we did not need them and so we stood in a long line to enter then gave up and did what most did and ate upstairs at the Garden Cafe. We had a tender and had to have a reservation to board going and coming back to shore. The dining rooms are low ceilings so extremely loud and the average dinning time for our table was 2 hours with very slow service. The cabins are also strange with very little room in our balcony cabin. Two people can not pass each other anywhere in the room (12125). Overall I gave it a three-star rating because of the crew's helpfulness and the food was good. Too many people for me on this ship and freestyle cruising. Read Less
