It was always our favorite, NCL. They treated us like royalty. They have made so many cuts recently, I thought I was on a Carnival cruise. No longer the cute towel animals to welcome us daily, no longer the menu daily for breakfast in the room...Cagneys has gone downhill. The side dishes were tiny, not tasty, beef was a low cut, and tough. We ate there twice and were disappointed. The baked potato was small, warm not hot and just not good. The sides used to be great, instead of creamed spinach they just had sautéed spinach which had little taste. Tepanyakis was excellent, nice large shrimp and great entertainment, the food has not changed and remained great. We had an issue in La Cuchina, I brought the wrong coupon, it was the Cagneys coupon so the hostess did not want to seat us. Seriously? We had to bring in the manager. I went and retrieved the correct coupon right before dessert. We just were not treated well all around. NCL Has changed and not for the better. It is time to try another cruise line. After 10 trips I’m sorry to see them cut so many corners. I would not recommend them at this point. I’m sure they are saving money at the guests expense. Read Less

This was our first cruise on Norwegian. We have taken approximately 15 cruises over the last several years. The food, service, cabin staff were all very good. The ports and excursions were all very enjoyable. We were not big fans of free style dining. We were very disappointed in the activities on the cruise ship itself. The shows were very good, but the repition of shows (like The Epic Beatles) was a bit of a disappointment. The first show was excellent, but was its necessary to have two more shows of the Epic Beatles. We were hoping for more shows in the main Epic Lounge. On other cruises there was a different show each night. There were not enough activities on the ship during the days while we were all onboard cruising. There were not enough games - trivia for example. We found ourselves with a lot of free time to do nothing. The activities that they did have cost $$$ - bingo, art gallery, etc. Any of the good activities that we were interested in were during dinner time. Pools were small, which was a surprise. We never saw the rock climbing wall open, nor the water slide. We had the drink package and were charged $5.17 and $10.35 to use the wine sample station. We tried to have that charge reversed, but were told it was not part of the drink package. In our stateroom. the water was so hot in the sink, that we had to take a bottle of water from the refrigerator to rinse our mouths when brushing our teeth. We were charged $6.50 for using that water from the mini-bar. The water was $5 for the bottle, but we were also charged a stocking fee. These charges should have been reversed, but we were basically told that can't be done. There was a Jewish Service, but no Christian Service on Sunday. On other cruises, we have had an opportunity for this. The bathroom in our stateroom was very strange. The bathtub was on one side of the hallway and the toilet and sink were on the other side. There was very little privacy. We were very surprised with this set up. We were not very impressed with the gift shops either. Usually we find plenty of great things to purchase, but not so on this trip. Read Less

This was my wife's and I first Norwegian Cruise and we picked this one because of the European ports of call and the fact Carnival does not offer the European cruises unless they have a new ship launch..The European ports we stopped at were fantastic and we visited places we had only dreamed of in the past. We have been on 13 previous Carnival cruises with 11 of them being balcony cabins with them all being on the Conquest class ships or the Dream class ships..This is what we found...Freestyle cruising and that's what Norwegian calls it is not for us .They want you to book ahead of your cruise any specialty restaurants or shows you want to go to..We had the Liquor package thrown in with our cruise along with 3 specialty dining restaurants..We picked Le Bistro(french),Madurno's a Brazillian steakhouse and Le Cuchinos a Italian restaurant...If we had to pay for these restaurants the bill would of been just under $300.00..The meals were excellent in the 3 specialty dining restaurants but were subpar in the main dining restaurants Manhattan and Taste. We found the main dining restaurants to be very noisy and several food items to be subpar with what you get on Carnival in their main dining rooms. With the free style concept you go to eat when you want or better said when you can get the reservation..My wife and I like the early dining option on Carnival thus we were not to pleased with the setup on Norwegian except for the superior quality food in the specialty restaurants and like I said before you pay for it....Also on Carnival your waiters get to know you and build up a bond with you night after night thus the service is better on Carnival. Another thing you do not get this on Norwegian and we found the service to be very impersonal. What we missed on Norweigen is that with Carnival your waiters put on a song and dance show during your meal. Your not going to get this on Norwegian. Another item we found sub par on the Epic was that the elevators were very slow compared to the 13 other cruises we have been on. It seems like they do not have enough elevators for the 4100 passengers on board. Entertainment we found not as plentiful on the Epic compared to the carnival ships...They had one Broadway style show which was very good however the Circus du Solei show was a pay show only so we decided not to attend. For the most part EPIC had less live music than you would find on a Carnival ship and most of the singers were sub par with the exception of the Epic Beatles and a Filipino singer named Allan who sang solo near the Whiskey Tasters bar. The balcony cabin that we had looks nice but was badly laid out and not as functional as on Carnival. Our room steward was good but did not have the same friendliness we have experienced on previous Carnival cruises. When you disembark you feel you are just a number not the feeling that you are leaving family on Carnival.Do not get us wrong this is a beautiful ship with a lot of polished wood but for our liking we would of been more than happy on Carnival Breeze or Dream.Yes we would take another Norwegian cruise but not on the Epic...Long story short my wife and I feel that Carnival has the best value for our vacation dollar. My husband and I went on this work related cruise therefore we did not choose this ship, it was chosen for us. After reading all of the very negative reviews we were very nervous about our cruise. We have been on 30 cruises, mostly with Royal Caribbean and Princess but a few have been on Norwegian. In my opinion, the biggest problem with the Epic is the design of the ship and Norwegian's desire to pack on too many passengers with not enough places to go. I have been on the largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas and despite the large number of passengers there are so many dining venues, bars and entertainment options that you never feel crowded and rarely have to wait in line. The Epic has limited dining, bars and entertainment options therefore there are crowds and lines everywhere! Another huge problem is the food! We have never been on a cruise where we were hungry but we were on this one! The choices were unappealing, the food temperature was not consistently correct, the freshness of the food was questionable and the taste was just awful. Thankfully we were in France, Italy and Spain and in these ports all day so we were able to fill up on delicious food there! Our cabin was satisfactory. Our bed (although too short) was quite comfortable and there was quite a bit of storage space in the cabin. The small bathroom with the sliding glass door was cramped and awkward given the fact that you could see through the glass. The separate sink outside of where the toilet was didn't work for us either. The shower was okay but filled up with some water at times, which really disgusts me. The balcony had some rust on the rails and most of the balcony furniture and wooden rail was covered in sea salt which made it uncomfortable to sit out there. It was never wiped by our cabin steward. Although we had read terrible reviews about the crew on board, we just felt that they were overworked and overwhelmed by the number of people on the ship. They tried really hard to keep up and most of them maintained a positive attitude. We especially liked the bar service in the "Maltings Beer and Whiskey Bar". We never had to wait long for drinks and the staff there were always pleasant. We chose not to see any shows but we did hear some live music in a few different areas. The entertainment quality was well below what we are use to on Royal Caribbean and Princess. Embarkation and disembarkation are not efficient, therefore be prepared to stand in long lines! All in all, this cruise was not as horrible as we had anticipated but I would definitely not recommend this ship, nor would I cruise on it again. Read Less

Embarkation was quick as we were the last bus coming from airport. We heard the lines were extremely long prior to us boarding. Once onboard it was a little chaotic at first. Cabin was mid ship, starboard side. Close to elevators, only 2 elevator banks so this was a plus. We didn’t mind the layout of the cabin with toilet and shower separate it was convenient to get ready. We only did complimentary dining, Taste and Manhattan dining rooms both had great service and great food. Garden Cafe was good if you like to eat with 1000 people too crowded. Entertainment was top notch! Must see Priscilla Queen of the Desert but you need reservations. Howl at the Moon, Epic Beatles, Comedy shows, Fire & Ice all fantastic too. Room Steward Ronald was the best, towel animals daily. Also after 3 days trying to get a chair on deck, without having to get up at 6am I asked for a deck lounger for balcony and he delivered. We also tip daily, it helps. Not enough chairs on pool decks and people hog them, they leave there towels all day empty. They do try to police this but it’s all over and rampant. This was a huge turn off, not sure if we will cruise again. Too many people, felt like cattle. Disembarkation was terrible, we waited 2 hours to get on prearranged transportation in the hot sun, never again. If there is a next time I will book my own. Overall it was a good cruise but just ok. I will start out with the positive... getting onto the ship was a breeze. The last time we sailed from NY it was a complete disaster so I was super pleased with the level of professionalism and efficiency from all involved. Walking into the ship it was clean, inviting and exciting. As always we made a quick dash to get band for the “vibe” or on this ship “posh” Our very first cruise was I. This ship so I was excited to sail on it again. We were able to get to our stateroom very quickly and bags arrived in a fairly timely manner. Upon meeting our cabin steward he was one of the best we have ever had. Not the least bit overbearing and always did a phenomenal job. We had booked 2 special days for our parents for their anniversary and my mother’s birthday. He excited both with precision and detail which we so greatly appreciated. When we were settled my family and I all decided to check out the posh as we like to spend a good chunk of our time there. From the get go there was not a good vibe up there, pun intended. Normally the staff is always happy smiling and knew our names by the second day. This was not the case with posh. We get this “upgrade” so we always have a place to go for some quiet and that extra special service. The space was loud because of its close proximity to the main pool deck. We were brought water only once and never offered a cocktail or fruit plate. Each time We wanted a refill on water or a cocktail we would have to get up and go to the bar and order and retrieve it ourselves. While not the end of the world I found myself questioning why we paid extra for essentially nothing. On top of that the staff was not friendly there. I was highly disappointed and decided to spend my time elsewhere. Waiting at all bars was almost unbearable but I do understand that there are only so many bartenders and many guests in the ship. When checking into Le Bistro we were again met with an unfriendly face. The hostess did not seem accommodating or kind at all. When dining we decided to indulge in a bottle of wine not included in our package. The sommelier was one the most knowledgeable and kind we have ever met. He absolutely made our experience at Le Bistro much better. Without him the meal would have been sub par. The dealers in the casino were great fun. I found myself looking for the same ones day and night as they made the experience of losing money a little but better with their humor and small talk. I decided one night to use the salon for a blowout. I scheduled the appointment for 730 so I would have enough time to get ready before dinner. After waiting 20 minutes after checking in I approached the front desk to see what the deal was. I was met with “oh no one came for you yet?” After attempting to reschedule for the next day, the stylist irina appeared. From my understanding of my talk with both the front desk and Irina, I was double booked with another haircut she was performing before me. I once again did not feel like I was a priority in the least bit. She styled my hair and I was able to make dinner by the skin of my teeth. I must say that experience was extremely disappointing to me. Bar service in the casino was also extremely lack luster, however the male and female bartenders at the casino bar were beyond kind and committed my name and drink order to memory. Priscilla queen of the desert was a highlight of the cruise. The cast was PHENOMENAL. We were lucky enough to meet some of the cast and they were so kind. As regular cruiser we look forward to meeting other LGBT friends at the Friends Of Dorothy gathering. The name change of the meeting is not my favorite. The location for the meeting this cruise was not the most desired spot, we much preferred it when it was held at shakers. One of the most disappointing things to happen was at great stirrup cay. One of the main reasons I went on this cruise was to swim with the pigs. I understand that the tide is beyond NCLs control but a warning of such might have been nice before we went to check In. The Epics layout overall is not my favorite and I’m happy to see that other ships have not been modeled after it. Overall the cruise was ok, nothing to write home about. As loyal NCL cruisers we will return as guests but I think we may explore other lines after the lack of customer service. Read Less

We just returned from sailing on NCL Epic (3/11-3/16/19). This was our 8th cruise overall and the 2nd time sailing with NCL. We were blown away by the mind-numb robots posing as NCL Crew members. Hardly any of them acknowledged our presence during the 5-night cruise. I do have to say that our cabin steward on deck 13, Wilbert, was always pleasant to talk with and exceeded our expectations. The rest of his colleagues should take notes from him on how to interact with the people paying their salaries. Somehow, the staff in all areas of the ship from the Departure terminal in Port Canaveral, to the Garden Café, Exercise room, Customer Service Desk, and officers walking around to the ship forgot how to be nice and pleasant to the passengers. The people at the Customer Service Desk were the least helpful and disingenuous people we have ever met on a cruise. We were awe- struck in the terminal when boarding started. One of the NCL Terminal workers directing people started screaming at the us to “GET IN THE RIGHT LINE AND STAY IN A SINGLE FILE”. The folks scanning our room cards to board the ship looked at us with blank stares. We thought it might be due to the stress of swapping out 10,000 passengers in 5 hours’ time, but their attitudes and lack of interest in passengers continued to decline the entire week. The “Unlimited Adult Drink Package” needs to be tossed overboard! Just know that it will cost you half of your cruise in time, waiting to get served. Average wait time was 20 mins during peak hours on the pool deck regardless of what you are drinking (this includes non-alcoholic drinks as well). If you hate waiting, you will hate the fact that they will only give you two alcoholic drinks at a time, and that is after you have already waited 20 mins. They do not sell buckets of beer anymore. Finally, the canned beer is warm by early afternoon, because they never refilled the ice in the coolers holding the cans. Even though it is unlimited drinks, they still only give you one measured shot per ingredient in the mixed drinks. It was college spring break for many and as hard as they tried, most of them were not able to get drunk. I guess that could be viewed as a benefit to rest of us who were not there to be drunk for 5 straight days. There were only 2 roaming servers on the pool deck on day 1. However, they were both on the same side of the ship, which was the opposite side that we were sitting on. Day 2, never saw a server until 2 pm. We finally flagged her down, so we could place an order. She told us “I am really, really, really, really busy” and then walked away. Yet she walked by us 10 times to pick up empty cups and cans, but only rarely brought drinks to the other passengers by us. Amazing! A server finally came by and took our order a few times on the third day. What really blew our mind is that NCL did not even have servers roaming the venues before the big shows. There was one server in the comedy club, but he only served the first couple of rows of people before the show started, then they closed the bar. NCL is very good at controlling the flow of beverages, so the Unlimited Packages they offer (both with or without alcohol) are not what they may seem. BTW, you will pay full price for any of the beverages in the mini-bar located in your room. We prefer to order breakfast and lunch in the main dining rooms. The food was good and hot. The service was not. The hostesses never greeted us, just asked how many were in our party. We had to constantly ask for coffee or water refills. We would ask them to hold the potatoes at breakfast yet ended up with plates full of potatoes every day. We asked for 1 slice of toast each and they still brought 2 slices per person. NCL needs to hold additional training courses on how to listen to people. No sense in bringing food that we asked you not to bring. If you order bacon at the dining room, you will end up with a pile that probably weighs at least 1 pound. YES, WE GET IT. THE FOOD IS UNLIMITED. That does not mean we need waste it all. O Sheenagan’s bar had very good (made to order) foods. All four of us enjoyed everything we ate there. We enjoyed the specialty dining restaurants like Cagneys, Teppanyaki, and La Cucina. The foods were wonderful, and the service was excellent. With unlimited drink packages and prepaid tips for serving staff, there is zero incentive for the them to go above and beyond anymore, to be pleasant, or to exceed passengers’ expectations. It is a shame, as our first NCL cruise 5 years was one of the best we have ever been on. I hope this feedback reaches NCL as there is a lot they could do to change this experience for others without costing them any money. Unfortunately, it will be a long time before we will consider taking another cruise on NCL. See you on the next cruise. Read Less

My husband and I picked this for our 2nd year wedding anniversary. While we overall still had a nice time, the staff really didn't seem to be able to keep up or pay attention to the guests. Most of the bartenders we ran across seemed rather cranky and only half paying attention. I ordered 2 drinks at one point and my husband ordered 1. The bartender acknowledged all 3, then only brought back one and seemed annoyed at having to go make the other 2 when he asked again if I needed anything. There were also several occasions where food was ordered, took a good while then came to us incorrect. Either condiments missing or just completely wrong. I ordered a steak from cagneys medium with peppercorn sauce and it came well done with no sauce but by that time we had already waited a good while and I didnt feel like waiting any longer. My mother in law coincidentally ordered another cut of steak well done and it came medium rare the first time so she sent it back just to be put on for a little while longer and they brought back a fresh one that was even more rare than the first. Similar thing happened at osheens. ordered fries with a side of ranch. Fries came 30 minutes later with no ranch. Granted these are minor things but when it seems to happen every time several days in a row it can get rather discouraging. I think it all boils down to the staff being overwhelmed and therefore just throwing the stuff out there. It was all good food, dont get me wrong, but it's not always what we ordered and the portions were usually very small for the price. Entertainment on the other hand was top notch. We really enjoyed the comedians as well as the cirque dinner show and the teppenyaki hibachi restaurant. The pools...well...I'll never understand why they would only have 3 very small pools for people outside the haven to access on a cruise with 4 thousand people. Unless you wanted to sit on a stranger's lap you weren't getting in. Which was a bit disappointing but we found a nice set of lounge chairs on the deck near spice h20 to spend our time. I would say it's worth a shot if you have patience like I do. I rather enjoyed the cruise. But if you have limited patience like my mother in law, you'll really want to be careful of when you go because 2-3 bartenders in a crowd about 6 people deep all around the pool bar can be a bit painful. Me and my boyfriend booked a four night Bahamas cruise on the Epic for our first cruise. We are both college students on spring break in our early 20's, we got the drink package and it was well worth it. The first night we were very impressed, we thought the staff was very friendly and attentive. The first full day we stopped in Nassau and has a great time at Atlantis. The second day we were supposed to go to Norwegians private island, Great Stirrup Cay, where we were excited to have a relaxing beach day. However, that morning the caption announced we would not be going to the island due to adverse weather conditions. Since this cruise only had two stops, we were extremely disappointed. I understand that they cannot control the weather, but what we found to be strange was that the weather seemed fine. It was sunny, blue skies, and the water was calm. The cruise line must be very cautious to even small waves due to elderly or maybe drunk passengers, which is not fair to those capable of riding the boat to the island. We ended up being on the boat the last few days instead and ran out of things to do since most onboard activities cost money. The water slides were fun but the pools were gross and crowded. We found the dining to be very good and loved that we could eat when we wanted to, but ended up having to repeat some food options. We had a family balcony cabin which we loved. However, I will say the bathroom is not very private. Being a couple, we did not mind this at all as we share a bathroom at home but I could see how it could be awkward for some people. Lastly, the disembarkation was VERY disorganized and it took an hour for us to get off the boat. There were no clear lines and the staff was standing around doing nothing to help people where to go. This was my third Norwegian cruise and up to now have been very impressed and satisfied. I have always given excellent reviews to friends and family on the excellent service and entertainment of Norwegian Cruise Lines and have influenced several people to choose Norwegian. I had a very special friend whom I had talked into going with me for his first cruise. I gave him wonderful reviews of my past cruises on the wonderful food and excellent service and attention. I gave glowing reviews of the on board shows and entertainment. Sadly, there were only two shows, instead of a different show each night as expected. Other show were available at additional expense. Shows were great but just two was very disappointing. Bartenders and wait staff acted as if they totally hated their jobs and could not even muster up a smile for the passengers. Bartenders totally ignored you while you were waving your cards right in front of them. Bartenders only made one drink at the time, even if four of the same drink was ordered. Very slow and non responsive. I may have to check out another cruise line for my next cruise. Food was not outstanding at all. Nothing at all like my last two cruises. Not much to choose from unless you paid for the specialty restaurants. Read Less

Was going to call this Epic Fail, but everyone else will. I will start with the good because I’m sure plenty of reviews will focus on the negative. This was our second cruise, both on Norwegian. The food was as expected, pretty good. Manhattan and Taste were better than the buffet. We didn’t do any of the ‘Pay’ restaurants this time around. We had on previous cruise and they were great. Room This was the first time we tried and inside room and loved it. Last one we had a balcony that we never used. It was perfectly dark for sleeping, which was roughly the only time we were in the room. Lots of storage space and we liked the toilet being separate from the shower. Shows The Cirque show was great. How they do what they do on a moving boat is incredible. The meal was quite good as well. Pricilla was a blast. They warn you about the adult themes yet some moron brought his kid. Howl at the Moon was fun, although scaled back from the one we went to in Indianapolis. We skipped Burn the Floor Service We were very happy with all the service except as related to the issues on the ship. Cons We weren’t crazy about the layout. It’s an older ship and doesn’t have The Waterfront which is great. Mechanical Issues We were a day away from Tortola when they told us we had mechanical issues and would not be going to Tortola or St. Thomas but would be going to San Juan. At this point they told us we would get a 50% credit. We later found out there were issues before leaving. When we left they had not been able to fix the engine (not told to us) but would make Great Stirrup Cay. We didn’t and we’re in fact late getting to Port Canaveral. We’re we covered up to $300 per person for changes to flights and 100% credit on next flight. We were making the beat of it all, but my biggest issue was the communication. That had to have known we would never get to our last port but waited until the last minute to tell us. That was my single biggest issue. I will sail Norwegian again, just never on the Epic. This was my sixth cruise second time with Norwegian and my 30th wedding anniversary, I understand that up keeping on a vessel is necessary but arc welding and grinding off tie downs that were in the wrong place on the deck and closures of areas on the pool deck, very inconvenient. The specialty restaurants we did was La Cucina, Cagney's Steakhouse and Teppanyaki. All three were excellent. We also did the cirque dreams epicurean dinner , we enjoyed that show. Burn the flood was good, the comedians were funny, did not like Priscilla queen of the desert, Howl at the moon was also good. Buffets are buffets, the food so so. The bar tenders Won't make a frozen rum runner, but the drink package came in handy. Here is a good tip take the elevator on deck 15 outside the buffets up to deck 18 where there is padded deck chairs and hardly anyone around walk up to the front and enjoy. Wished we found that earlier in the trip. I don't understand why they don't have music in H20 during the day they have a big screen showing diving spots of the world. Wife did a few spa treatments she was happy with that. Not sure about doing that big of a ship again. Or at least that one, Port Canaveral is very easy on and off the ship. When getting off the ship Use the porters to get you and your bags to the front at customs. It's worth the tip. Read Less

Chose the Epic based on date and departure port first, then price, then itenerary. Had sailed on Oasis last year and was in a Top level suite. I should have been prepared to be disappointed...again. This class vessel or mega-ship is NOT designed for the customer. It is more like an engineering study in space maximization with horrible ergonomics Good: The food was well above average. Best- the Moderno. Bad: Room service-used once at breakfast not worth it. Casino- ok truth- we lost- but we expect to lose. We do want a little entertainment while we play and we lost so fast it wasnt even close to fun. Two roulette tables - 2$ and 10$ chips. I guess NCL caters to the 1% or total morons. The cabin: calling our balcony a mini-suite was a misnomer if not borderline misleading advertising. Definitely the worst balcony room on any ship we have sailed. (This was probably our 30th cruise - Cunard, RC, Viking, HA, Princess). The bed was an abomination for anyone not from Munchkinland in Oz. The curved headboard makes it even worse. The two closets and storage are OK but the head (bathroom) was also very tight -although the shower was large. A sink in rhe bed area room was UNSAT. Moving around the cabin was extremely awkward. Never again. Really believe me- these are NOT worth it. The cabin door lock did not work. 13243 cabin. Three trips to front desk, 3 rekeys, over an hour waiting in hall for security to fix the lock. Not one apology. Read Less

This is not our 1st cruise nor actually our 1st Norwegian Cruise either. Actually we are platinum members with Norwegian. We embarked from Port Canaveral. We cruised this time in a mini-suite on deck 10. The biggest disappointment overall was the service and the quality of the food from the start. Restaurant service was VERY poor except for Le Bistro. The worst experience of the entire cruise was in Cagney's. The food in Cagney's was horrible, presentation a 3rd grader would have done better and the service very poor. Overall either the staff [as a whole] either needs more training or time off, all for the most part appeared very tired and grumpy. On the few occasions we needed help it was very hard to find someone that was either willing to help or could provide an answer. In our opinion, the level of service and quality of their food has significantly deteriorated over the past couple of years. We also had the ultimate beverage package on this cruise and compared for example with Celebrity's [we sailed with them 3 months ago and also several times] Norwegians leaves a lot to be desired. The good- lots to do and the Entertainment was the best we have seen on a cruise ship. We liked the balcony room design and our attendant was fantastic. If you have kids this ship is for you. Our favourite restaurants were The Bistro and Noodles. We have had a nice Xmas dinner at Manhattans. The bad- There was always a line whether we had reservations or not. It was annoying because the reservation system was abused by customers and the staff allowed it. Also some restaurants did not allow couples to reserve yet bigger groups were allowed,so while we stood in line big groups were brought right in. The ship was not very clean and the customer service was not up to the standards we are used to. Staff seemed confused and unsure. What we learned, we like specialized dining but with structured seating. We will probably return to Celebrity ( Reflection, Edge etc) and if we had kids go to Disney or Royal Caribbean. Celebrity should learn from Norwegians Entertainment package , Prescilla of the Desert, Burn the floor and the Comedians and magic acts were fantastic on Norwegian never saw anything that good on Celebrity. My husband and I wanted to take our 3 children and nephew on a pre-Christmas cruise. We had the 2 bedroom villa in the Haven and my son and nephew had a balcony cabin. The staff was not nearly as friendly compared to the previous cruises we’ve taken with NCL. This was our 3rd time getting the 2 bedroom villa in the Haven. My daughter and I decided to go up to the Haven’s private area where it was quiet. A NCL staff member walked over to us, (we’re African American) and asked if we’re supposed to be up there. I asked him how many of the Caucasian people did you ask if they belong? He immediately started back peddling. I was embarrassed for myself and my daughter. Our family has sailed NCL since 2011. We have NEVER been treated so disrespectfully. I will NEVER sail Epic again. I waited to post my review because I wanted to give NCL time to respond to my complaint and I have heard nothing back. When people who work hard to provide a great life for their family go on vacation and spend the money to relax, they should not have to get to the middle of the ocean and be humiliated for their skin color, religion, beliefs or sexual orientation. By the way, the Haven 2 bedrooms for 4 people is not a cheap thrill. It’s EXPENSIVE!!! I have to rethink my stance of only traveling NCL after this. It’s hurtful that you can be loyal to a brand but they’re not loyal to their long standing customers. Ports: The ports were ok, I don't if repairs were still going on due to the storm that hit September 2017. We did enjoy the stop in Tortola. Our children chose to do the Virgin Gouda Baths and my husband and I chose to do the speed boat tour around Tortola. Ship: This was the first time since 2009 I had a complaint about the ship. The ship was ok, not what I expected at all. The interior decor, especially in the Haven areas were nicely furnished. I loved the whole Haven experience being away from the crowd and relaxing in the air conditioned lounge. Thumbs up for that. Dining: Surprisingly enough, the food was not that great on this ship. We were highly anticipating going to our favs. We went to Cagney's and the food wasn't good at all. The next night we went to the Italian restaurant and they didn't have the lasagna anymore, the food we chose was not good. After 3 nights of bad experiences and customer services, we opted to eat in the buffet and room service. Disembarkation: Horrible with a capital H. Again, I have NEVER had a complaint since 2009 with NCL. It took us 2 hours to disembark. We did not understand why we didn't have the same experience getting on than getting off. When we arrived, as promised, we had someone escort us to our cabins. Getting off, we were with the general public and had to stand in long lines. As a Haven Suite customer, I would think that we would get to have a certain privilege to disembark. Children: We brought our 21, 20, 20 and 18 year old children with us. They mainly played basketball and stayed in the arcade. After 3 days they were bored and just watched movies and played on their phones. They did say for them, the best part of the cruise was the port visits where they could roam and not be confined to the ship. If you have older children, let them choose some of the excursions that they like to do. Read Less

My husband and I normally cruise with RCCL but took two cruises on Norwegian Escape. The first one was June 2016 and it was amazing, to a large degree because of the cruise directory and assistant cruise director (Tyler G and Andre respectively). The second one was February 2018. We had fun, traveled with 2 other couples, and thoroughly enjoyed the ship, but the cruise directory was boring. It makes a difference but still, we had a good time and the ship was great. We especially loved The District. So we booked this 10 day cruise on the Epic and overall it was a little disappointing. We had a good time - we were on a cruise, how could you not have a good time?? - but we have definitely had better experiences. The ship is very dark. Unlike Escape, which has tons of outside seating via restaurants, there is very little outside seating other than on deck 15. So if you are walking around the ship on the inside, you rarely see daylight. When you walk into the cabin you are basically standing in the bathroom. It is the strangest design I have seen so far. You walk in and the toilet is on the left, then a sink next to it, and the bathtub/shower is on the right. There is a curtain you can pull shut to separate this area from the rest of the cabin, but there really is no privacy or no separate bathroom as such. We had booked a mini suite and on Escape, in a mini suite, we had a beautiful, big bathroom, which double sinks, and a nice shower. There was enough room for both of us to get ready. I am really not sure what the big difference was on Epic regarding the mini suite vs a regular cabin. The food at Cagney's was amazing, Moderno was just ok, and the food at the Garden Cafe was really disappointing. There was a much better selection at the Garden Cafe on Escape and the food tasted better. We were excited to see that Andre (the assistant cruise director from Escape) was actually the cruise director on this ship, but even this was disappointing. On EScape we constantly ran into Tyler and Andrew, they were hilarious, and they interacted with the passengers. While Andre mentioned at the end of every announcement his made that it was his mission to meet each and every one of us, we rarely saw him on the ship. My husband and I were actually discussing going back to RCCL. WE have a lot of loyalty points accrued with them, but after our first Norwegian cruise we were so thrilled we decided to give them another try. However, after the last two Norwegian cruises we decided to stick with RCCL. Read Less

The smoke on deck 6 made us sick, had to see the onboard doctor, which really messed up our cruise. We love the Cavern club, but it was so packed that we couldn't enjoy it. People went to the show before and just hung out. Food from the Cirque was not good at all. The meat was cold. The biggest disappointment was that they only had two scuba (we are advance divers) excursions. They did not have any for Cayman or Belize which are amazing dive sites. We had to do our own for Jamaica, Cayman, and Belize. That was a huge disappointment. When we travel on Carnival they are working with us on the ship to schedule dives if they do not have any set up. Norwegian staff would not. The TV vacation planner did not work. We would have things schedule and it would not show up and then we didn't think we had it when we did. This happened in regards to a show and in regards to a dinner reservation. The iConceirge Ap said there was an upgrade and I was never able to use it. We did the Blackjack tournament and asked to get into the one of the rounds on a table that was not filled up and she said it was after 12 when our watches said 1158 and she would not budge even showing her the time. I was penalized in the Blackjack tournament for pushing two stacks of chips in one move onto the betting space when the lady running it told me I could not and then the next lady that took over told people to do it. Bathrooms on deck (not in the room) were often out of paper towels. The embark and disembark were nightmares. I've never had that kind of problem on any other ship. My wife said she would never want to travel on Epic again but I probably would (but not without her). After the experience, I prefer Carnival and the way they do things. I wanted to like Norwegian more. The stateroom and ship and staff were awesome. Read Less

Overall my wife and I have a great time on this particular cruise. It was mainly due to the ports we stopped at. However, there were a few areas that really bugged us. The embarkation process was took longer than in Miami. When we arrived in the morning there were very few people outside the terminal to give us assistance. Even when we were about to enter the terminal the gentleman standing next to the escalator looked totally asleep and was telling people to go up the escalator even though there was no room at the top of the stairs. The main thing that really bothered us about this particular cruise is that NCL decided to bypass Great Stirrup Cay even though the weather was beautiful. They said the tenders couldn't do there thing safely. This really surprised me since the water was no rougher than any other time we needed to be tendered in. From the CC and You Tube reviews I have looked at it seems NCL skips GSC all the time, so I wondering if there really is a tender issue or they do some revenue calculations to keep people on the ship to gamble or spend more money. Hopefully that is not the case, but it was a beautiful sunny day when we were supposed to go to GSC. The ship itself is ok, but it's my least favorite of the NCL ships my wife and I have been on. There were many areas that needed maintenance, including the bathrooms. Many soap dispensers and faucets worked or barely worked. I also saw water on the floor a lot of the times I used the bathrooms. The decor is very dated and looked more like an old Carnival ship. There were very few bars which made getting a drink a challenge most of the time. Many times I had to wait at least 10-15 minutes before got our drinks. The bars seemed to be understaffed at times too. The food was good as usual though, but the Manhattan room was a nightmare most times we dined there. A couple times it took two hours to get through dinner. Two of the nights we didn't see a waiter for 15-20 minutes. That had never happened to us on any other NCL cruise. Plus some of the staff in the Manhattan looked terribly disinterested in working, which again was really odd for an NCL ship. The specialty restaurants were great as always. The staff in Cagney's and Teppanyaki were awesome! I did notice the steaks were much smaller and thinner than our last NCL cruise :-), but everything still tasted great and quite honestly the food was plenty for me. Some of the guests were saying there was a lot of training going on, which may be the reason for the bad service in the Manhattan room. These guests said one of the crew members said the training was the reason we didn't go to Great Stirrup Cay, which I'm not sure I believe. Something was definitely up since the service on this ship was definitely inferior as compared to the newer ships. The communication on the ship seemed to be poor too. We rarely heard announcements on the ship and when I called the front desk with questions they gave me wrong answers each time. The told us that self-disembarkation was on the 6th floor, but it was actually on the 5th floor. That made it a little tough when trying to get back on the elevator and we lost our place in line. Even the staff located on these two floors really didn't seem to know which was the right floor. Even though I pointed out some negative items on this cruise, my wife and I still had a good time on the ship, but an even better time off the ship. We're booked on a couple more NCL cruises, so we hope the bad service etc was a one-off and won't happen in 2019. We may cruise on the Epic again, but maybe after they refurbish it again. It definitely needs a lot of work. Oh, btw....they had part of the ship fenced off while they did some pipe work. The grinding and sanding was not exactly music to my ears, nor was the burnt metal smell. I hope this information was helpful and good luck on your next cruise! Read Less

7 day get-a-way. Food, in 95%, was great, Foods service was great, except for an poorly trained waitress in The Manhattan Room. She was overwhelmed about the group size (11), and table was poorly set up from the start. Blame should be reflected on Dinning Management, for watching and not giving support or assigning help. She was truly in the wrong place. Each shore excursion started off and ended (debarking/ embarking) entering/exit the ship itself was good, but no ground support, or directions or signs to which line one should be in a close proxamtion to the excurtion you were headed to.. 3000 people heading to double set of doors and not knowing where to go. Tenders, Long line down the middle of the boat, then sit for another 45 minutes in the Epic room, to await on a boat. Returning to the ship.. No signs on where the line starts, lines crossing other lines. and very long. Could see Norwiegian crew staff standing around, but not trying to help. Each shore excursion, we planned, was great, once you got into the correct line... The cruise depends on yourself. Want to have a great time, you can, and will. It's what you make it... My advise to Norwegian staff, We are your employers during the trip. Keep your attitude in your cabin. Keep you options to yourself. Smile when you hate it, If you don't know the question/ answer, state that you don't understand, don't lie, or give false information. Your jobs are tough and your hours are long, we commend your services. Many people will work a whole year just to have a week of peaceful time. Don't make their hard effort's go to waste, That's you jobs, if you can't do it, get another job. There are thousands more waiting to have your job, and, without attitude... Read Less

We arrived a day earlier to explore Barcelona , Spain. The cruise was average at best. We have been on several cruises with different cruise lines. This ship was okay , but the entertainment was not that great. The food was average. The staff was pretty good. The shore excursions seemed overpriced. We decided to do our own exploring in every port. We found it real easy to get around on our own. Also because of the weather we could not reach Naples Italy. There was basically an oh well attitude among staff in regards to us not getting to Naples. The entertainment on board was below par for a ship of this size. The dining rooms were large .There was a large variety of foods. The problem was that we seemed to have the same menu every other day. Our cabin steward Elton was the lone bright spot on an otherwise ho hum cruise. He was great at his job. My wife's suitcase was damaged by the staff while bringing it on board ship . When i went to customer service the initial response was read the fine print we really don't have to replace it. After some back and fort they finally found her a replacement suitcase that was smaller than her original one . I'm not sure if we will sail with Norwegian again. Read Less

We've sailed on Epic before and there are a couple of things that have gotten better, but it's still average at best. The cabin we were in 11320 is on floor 11 and is the forth from the left if you're looking at the back of the boat. The balcony furniture is uncomfortable and they give you a very small table 5"x 5". The cabin is fine. The bathroom is typical of a cruise ship as is the shower. The hairdryer is in the middle of the room, so if anyone wants to go out to the balcony while you're doing your hair, they have to get by you. The food is ALWAYS the same. The only way you get anything different is if you go to the specialty restaurants. They nickle and dime, so be careful...anytime they ask for your cabin number, you can guarantee you'll be charged for something. Entertainment was so lame, in fact the best thing was the male sexy legs contest. Service was slow but good. Before when we sailed Epic, you had to cut through the casino to get to anywhere good and it was always smoke filled. They've made that a little better...or at least we didn't notice as much this time. People still smoke on the balconies even though they are warned not to. It's annoying if you're just trying to relax with a cup of coffee. (That's just me). The ports are good but they are all far away from the ports. Example, Rome is a little over an hour and once you factor in the shuttles and trains, it's almost two hours. All of the ports require a train or bus to the sights worth seeing-It makes for an exhausting week. Maybe that's why the entertainment is weak- We took the free drink and internet pkg. My advice would be to take the free drink and excursion. The wifi is AWFUL! The package that comes with the offer is 250mins. which by the time you get on is not worth it. We walked into our cabin to a huge stain on the carpet. I mean, as if a large red slurpee was spilled and it was left that way. Now, let me be clear. Every staff member we met, including the people who took care of the rooms, was super helpful and responsive to our needs. However, this is an issue with the ship needed to be updated or maintained more properly, as they continuously cruise without break and those of us who spend a fortune on a room are left feeling robbed of the feeling that you’re in a clean room. Other than that, we enjoyed the specialty restaurants (sushi, hibachi, steakhouse - all delicious) and the trip itself. They did a great job when it came time to get off in the various ports, we never waited in a long line to get on or off the ship. We loved the shows we did attend as well. There were plenty of activities to do, and always a pool chair available if you just wanted to lounge by the pool. The balcony was gorgeous and would’ve definitely been worth the money if the cabin itself would’ve been more well maintained. We never felt our room shaking or rocking while sailing, and often forgot we were on a cruise ship. Read Less

My wife & I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. We had spent 5 days in Barcelona (fabulous) and before that we came off a 10-days cruise from Athens to Barcelona on Oceania's Riviera (owned by NCL). Up to this point everything was wonderful.-just what we anticipated. Then came the NCL cruise on the Epic. We chose this cruise because of its great itinerary. We should have done more research in regards to the demographics of the passengers, all 4,100 of them. It seemed as if more than half were kids, from infants to teens. The noise level at times was unbearable. Parents letting their kids go wild, running & shouting. On the main level, the cruise director & his staff were constantly shouting into a microphone playing games. Out of 18 decks, it was almost impossible to find a quiet, shaded outdoor area to sit and relax. On the other hand, the dining was pretty good in the specialty restaurants but only so-so in the two free main dining restaurants. Buffet breakfasts & lunches were good. Our cabin, a mini-suite, was adequate. Excursions were fine, except for the one they canceled at the last minute. If you're traveling with kids, this is the ship for you. If you're looking for a relaxing cruise, it definitely is NOT. We probably will not cruise on NCL again, maybe on one of the smaller ships. I realize "you get what you pay for" so there's really no comparing NCL with Oceania, Seabourn or Viking (other cruise lines we've sailed), but I'd rather cruise less frequently and truly enjoy it than be frustrated traveling more often. ship was very good balcony cabin 8199 deck eight, some cabin are restricted view down to water or enclosed panels etc, this cabin was perfect the balcony was largest we have had, (one chair and one chair reclined and a small table) we were the right hand of the ship, only issues were every morning when docking at 5.30/6am we were awoken by the engine thrusters (every morning), the toilet was to the right hand side of the door shower on left but sink (which was tiny en-suite sink) was in the room - this allowed me to shave whilst my wife had a shower ( gave us extra time we looked at positives but prefer traditional bathroom styles of other ncl ships. the sofa was next to the balcony. The ship is noisy throughout ( o'sheehans has bar on one side the restaurant on the other but a main walkway for the ship through the middle, there is ten pin bowling going on , pool tables and air hockey , everyone shouting to be heard above the noise ,the atrium has noise coming up from its level to osheenans ( i normally love eating in here on other ncl ships but the noise was unbearable - the garden cafe ie canteen was a lot quieter) taste was good but Manhattan was best quieter and relaxed, although twice in the week there was piano etc entertainment - we went specifically for this but we couldn't hear any entertainment for everone at other tables shouting over the top of the music to there friends at the same table , ( if you go for music and entertainment you should listen and be quiet and allow others to listen - if you want to eat and talk go to TASTE RESTAURANT ON THOSE NIGHTS, this was another noisy un-relaxing meal on the epic something they are good at. there was never any problem getting drinks at the bars, there are lots in a similar area if some are busy go to the next. the lifts are unbearable we walked up and down stairs all the time. if you did get a lift you are sure it will stop for people getting in or out at every floor. i have never know lifts to be so busy on any of the other 9 ships we have been on, the ones at the front are the worst. The sunbeds - well on the sea day a member of staff was asked if there were any sunbeds - he proceeded to point to the sunbeds with towels on them and laughed leaving the customer exasperated ( not the best response) he could have said there were over a hundred sunbeds up on the quiet deck ( deck 18) using the stairs from floor 15 at the garden cafe entrance ( this seems to be an unknown area as it was empty most days and although there are no bar areas serviced by waiters and also infused water available. rattana sunbeds with cushions and rattan cabana style sun beds. ( i don't think i should have said about this area as it wont be quiet anymore but i think it should be advised to guests as an option on sea days when thery are standing around without beds the entertainment was good Beatles in main theater 1st night, then in the cavern most nights. cirque show was superb we went at 7.45 waited to get in at 8pm and were given ringside seats best seat in show, we said we didn't want to hurt our necks looking up and would prefer balcony seats, the staff were shocked and said these were excellent seats and they were correct ( pay extra for ground floor seats show was right in front of us and you felt like you were in the show. Barcelona - hop on hop off bus - 3 routes. Very good system. There are a couple of companies so make sure you get on the right bus on and off. We enjoyed la rambla wandering at fruit/fish market. Squares, arc triemf, familia catheral . bought copy designer bags they were asking 85 euros, we paid 15 euros, we bought two large and one smaller prada, and gucci 15 euros eack. stick to your price, i just said that was all i was paying and they knew i had their bottom price ( local bar tender told me not to pay more) i walked away at watched bottom price was 50 euros for fully automatic rolex, omega etc they are still just a cheap watch with a copy name it might not even work the next day no warranty etc , not worth taking the chance Naples -Positto Pompeii,Sorrento Amalfi coast, used a normal taxi at port, two couples 150 euros per couple we didn't know the couple he got two others to join us ( driver was Angelo - he was superb very relaxed and informative) buy tickets prior online for pompei, we were 8 people from the front and took 25 mins to get in, there are two ques on for paying in (middle line) and tour guides (left line) the ticket seller booth takes 3 tour guides to every one paying visitor, the line to the right has its own ticket booth this is for online pre paid vouchers, ( best option). there were hundreds behind us and it was very very stressful paying ( not a good experience you had to physically push your way to the desk. (buy o ticket online to avoid stress. Rome - buy ticket at newsagent ( birg ticket) across the road from the shuttle drop off point at the roundabout. Follow the road parallel to the sea to train station (easily walkable 10mins well signed. put ur ticket it in green machine at train station before boarding slide to left and it will stamp - validate it, u then use it all day on trains underground and buses 12 euros all day travel. We dont use public transport and found it easy to use ( we asked locals a couple of times and they were very helpful- seems daunting but all train stops are marked above the train doors, and they announced the stops. Stops also say colosn and trevi fount etc easily recognized. Florence €19 return leaves 12mins past hour. Takes 1hr 20mins . We went from liverno station ( cruise shuttle €15 euro each) we missed train so we went via pisa. Got off train caught bus for 2 euros, same back to station then train to florence took 1hr. Train back at 3pm plenty of time 1 hr 10 mins back, there is no 4pm train back so 5pm train would be to late for shuttle back it stops at 5.45pm Freinzi Smn station ( ie florence is end of the line ) not the freinzi station stop before. Cannes- cant get off ship till 10.30am tender if u haven't book a tender. ( worth booking - if its to early for you, don't turn up just go after 10.30. noddy train at end on tender dock. 10 euro per person lasts 40/45mins . You get audio and a little bit of an idea of where is worth a visit. We had a walk up the oldest street and a look in general shops. Coffee and cake. Spent a relaxing 3.5hrs then back to ship Palma - shop shuttle 15 euros per person return but the taxi is 10 euro total for 4 to city centre ( cathedral ) same back. (i think ncl are a big bit cheeky charging 15 euro per person, we were two people and saved 10 euros and got taxi to where we wanted and got taxi from where we finished, no unnecessary waiting or walking (taxi best option) Cruise port to bcn airport terminal 2 - taxi 39 euros set fee (20mins) overall the itinerary was good, the staff were friendly and helpful, the ship was bearable very big and lots going on but to noisy at meal times. i think they are trying to get to much in every space, mostly to make more money and the tours and shuttles are extortionate, look online for private companies or get a taxi you will save money . do your home work Read Less
