My wife and I have been on both Disney and Celebrity Cuise Lines in the past, this is the first on Norwegian. It is also our first cruise over Christmas. The good- lots to do and the Entertainment was the best we have seen on a cruise ship. We liked the balcony room design and our attendant was fantastic. If you have kids this ship is for you. Our favourite restaurants were The Bistro and Noodles. We have had a nice Xmas dinner at Manhattans. The bad- There was always a line whether we had reservations or not. It was annoying because the reservation system was abused by customers and the staff allowed it. Also some restaurants did not allow couples to reserve yet bigger groups were allowed,so while we stood in line big groups were brought right in. The ship was not very clean and the customer service was not up to the standards we are used to. Staff seemed confused and unsure. What we learned, we like specialized dining but with structured seating. We will probably return to Celebrity ( Reflection, Edge etc) and if we had kids go to Disney or Royal Caribbean. Celebrity should learn from Norwegians Entertainment package , Prescilla of the Desert, Burn the floor and the Comedians and magic acts were fantastic on Norwegian never saw anything that good on Celebrity. I can definitely tell you that this was a whole different experience. I usually cruise Carnival. But i wanted to try something different. My husband and I never had a honeymoon, now that our children are older, we decided that it was the perfect time to take one. On their website Norwegian really "seems" to give you a good value, free beverage package and freestyle dinning always sounds nice, also lower deposits. here are some of the things we experienced that did not leave us with a good experience. - we pre-planned and pre-paid for pretty much everything. we got on the ship and we were told that Norwegian puts a 300 dollar hold on your credit card, for fees that you might incur. If everything was pre-paid why was this an issue? We don't carry large amounts on our credit card when going out of town, especially overseas. we gave them a 50 dollar deposit, when all was said and done they owed us a credit of 108.00$ but even when i had a credit to my account, they would not let me spend MY money as I saw fit. They held onto it and told me I could use it for specialty dinning, or at their stores to buy something, but i was not allowed to use it as I please. Basically i needed their permission to use my own money. not to mention, this 300 dollar amount that they hold, is not communicated to you. had I known prior to cruising I would have made sure I had enough on my credit card. I pre-paid for everything! including my drinks! I had a package. - Speaking of a drink package, The drinks were inconsistent from bar to bar or to restaurant. not to mention, even if you have a drink package, there is port fees that are not included. - dining: because we are so used to Carnival, they usually assign you a dining room, and the waiters/waitresses know you, they sing and dance to entertain you. on this cruise, you do not get assigned a dining room. There were more "specialty" dining options then complimentary. even when you want to go to the complimentary dining rooms, you have to make a reservation. now, i understand that there are many people and a reservation system is a great way to control the crowds. however, due to the lack of complimentary dining rooms, they were always full. We would have to eat at 830 or 9pm if we wanted to eat something more then the buffet. The food at the buffet was average cafeteria food. nothing special and not very good. For example, the "fruit" was a frozen blend of fruits that i used when making fruit pies at home, it wasn't even thawed yet! - We pre-paid for a dining experience at Teppenyaki, which is one of those restaurants that the chef prepares the meal right in front of you. this was a great experience, however, when i pre-paid a gratuity was already applied to the bill. When everyone else in our group was paying, they were not only charged a gratuity with the price of the meal, but were also asked for another gratuity! that was horrible! we also had a reservation for 7:30pm. We were not seated until 8:08, and they were just letting walk-ins in before us. i do have to give credit where credit is due. the food at Teppenyaki was delicious. - on other cruises that i have been on. Room service is complementary, however there is a 7.95 service charge! - we managed to get a reservation at shanghi noodle bar. It was a great experience. and the food was fantastic, the service was amazing and the staff made some great recommendations. - as for the entertainment, there were 2 complimentary shows and one that was an additional fee. the shows were sold of for the remainder of the cruise, by day 2. I didn't even get to see them! - This cruise has no place to sit and relax to watch the water. you were expected to be doing something or get out of the way. you could sit on a lounge chair on the deck, however the deck was on deck 15, no good views of the water at all and the sun goes down at 5 or 5:30. and every lounge chair was taken up by 9am! - we had an inside cabin, and the room was clean, but the beds were not comfortable at all. and there was a sign at each door for you to tell the housekeepers if they could go in and clean or if you did not want to be disturbed, this is on the outside of the room and is easily changed by some drunk person on the cruise or a teen just trying to be funny. - you were not able to see the menu for any restaurants on the tv in your stateroom, - you couldn't make reservations from your stateroom Read Less

My husband and I wanted to take our 3 children and nephew on a pre-Christmas cruise. We had the 2 bedroom villa in the Haven and my son and nephew had a balcony cabin. The staff was not nearly as friendly compared to the previous cruises we’ve taken with NCL. This was our 3rd time getting the 2 bedroom villa in the Haven. My daughter and I decided to go up to the Haven’s private area where it was quiet. A NCL staff member walked over to us, (we’re African American) and asked if we’re supposed to be up there. I asked him how many of the Caucasian people did you ask if they belong? He immediately started back peddling. I was embarrassed for myself and my daughter. Our family has sailed NCL since 2011. We have NEVER been treated so disrespectfully. I will NEVER sail Epic again. I waited to post my review because I wanted to give NCL time to respond to my complaint and I have heard nothing back. When people who work hard to provide a great life for their family go on vacation and spend the money to relax, they should not have to get to the middle of the ocean and be humiliated for their skin color, religion, beliefs or sexual orientation. By the way, the Haven 2 bedrooms for 4 people is not a cheap thrill. It’s EXPENSIVE!!! I have to rethink my stance of only traveling NCL after this. It’s hurtful that you can be loyal to a brand but they’re not loyal to their long standing customers. Ports: The ports were ok, I don't if repairs were still going on due to the storm that hit September 2017. We did enjoy the stop in Tortola. Our children chose to do the Virgin Gouda Baths and my husband and I chose to do the speed boat tour around Tortola. Ship: This was the first time since 2009 I had a complaint about the ship. The ship was ok, not what I expected at all. The interior decor, especially in the Haven areas were nicely furnished. I loved the whole Haven experience being away from the crowd and relaxing in the air conditioned lounge. Thumbs up for that. Dining: Surprisingly enough, the food was not that great on this ship. We were highly anticipating going to our favs. We went to Cagney's and the food wasn't good at all. The next night we went to the Italian restaurant and they didn't have the lasagna anymore, the food we chose was not good. After 3 nights of bad experiences and customer services, we opted to eat in the buffet and room service. Disembarkation: Horrible with a capital H. Again, I have NEVER had a complaint since 2009 with NCL. It took us 2 hours to disembark. We did not understand why we didn't have the same experience getting on than getting off. When we arrived, as promised, we had someone escort us to our cabins. Getting off, we were with the general public and had to stand in long lines. As a Haven Suite customer, I would think that we would get to have a certain privilege to disembark. Children: We brought our 21, 20, 20 and 18 year old children with us. They mainly played basketball and stayed in the arcade. After 3 days they were bored and just watched movies and played on their phones. They did say for them, the best part of the cruise was the port visits where they could roam and not be confined to the ship. The cruise started off badly by taking over 3 1/2 hours to board. Missed lunch because of this. Dinners in the specialty dining rooms were great, however the Manhattan and Taste left us feeling like we had just eaten in a bad restaurant with bad food and even worse service. Only one night at Manhattan gave us good service and her name is Linda. I sent many meals back. One meal even tasted like it was spoiled. The Pub served frozen, greasy fish. Guest service staff were rude and difficult to deal with. They didn’t want to deal with problems, like missing laundry and extra service charges. They was no communication prior to sailing and when I inquired about this, I was told that everyone knows this information. Being new to NCL, I didn’t know. The ULTIMATE BEVERAGE package is not Ultimate because it didn’t include water and coffee. We found out the hard way, after ordering water and being charged after the meal. Other ships include waters and coffee. We felt we were nickel and dimed the entire time. Maintenance staff painting with toxic paint early morning. We were looking forward to another cruise with NCL, since our experience on the Pearl was good. This was awful! *The embarkation was a fiasco, with the problem being more Port Canaveral's. It was a cold morning, and they had to stop allowing people up the escalator to the indoor waiting area. Fights were taking place, and security had to be called. Most were cold, hungry, tired and confused, since there was no communication from anyone. This became a constant theme throughout the cruise! But at no time did anyone from NCL apologize for it and take some responsibility. When you were finally on board it was as if nothing had happened. *Pools are a real joke!!! 3 of them, with one being in the quiet area. Very small, more of a stand-up pool. If any more than 4 people were in it, it became overcrowded. The main pool area was the only pool space with shade, but the stupid music was so loud you couldn't talk to each other. Ridiculous! Even after request to turn the music down, nothing! *Waiting for an elevator became a game. No matter which was it goes, climb on because you may never see another one! Too many scooters!!!!!! * To see any show, you had to wait in line for an hour, then seats were gone quickly. I have never had that experience on any other cruise. Venues are way too small for that size of a ship with that many passengers. *Front desk was somewhat rude. I asked a young lady where the library was (mapped showed it very close to their desk). The girl grabbed my map and sent me to the back of the ship. I came back and told her it should be near where we were. She simply repeated her orders. It was across the hall and behind a door! *Layout of this ship is terrible. Hard to maneuver around anywhere comfortably. *Talent on board, except for a few, was pretty bad. Howl at the Moon singers were not singers! * Onboard activities: Napkin folding! Just Dance! *Movies selected were unbelievable! Overboard, Adrift and Showdogs?! Really! Who picked this garbage? (Andre'?) One good day they showed "It's A Wonderful Life" and it was standing room only! *It was Christmas. Why not organize an evening of caroling, or show more holiday related movies? Other than decorations, it was never mentioned or celebrated. Very disappointing. *That leaves us with debarkation. We were herded onto the 6th floor, with no announcement from anyone, just rumors, to try and organize a line, which went from the front to the back of the ship. There was 1 person from staff I saw and she was yelling at someone who was trying to take the escalator to 5! Apparently, some big wigs from corporate were suppose to be there for our leaving, but never saw a single person!!!! No, wait...there were two lovely ladies waving goodbye and thanking us...Washy Washy Girls!!!! That was it. No thanks for spending your time, your money and your sanity with us. They could have cared less. We will never cruise NCL again! Read Less

My husband and I normally cruise with RCCL but took two cruises on Norwegian Escape. The first one was June 2016 and it was amazing, to a large degree because of the cruise directory and assistant cruise director (Tyler G and Andre respectively). The second one was February 2018. We had fun, traveled with 2 other couples, and thoroughly enjoyed the ship, but the cruise directory was boring. It makes a difference but still, we had a good time and the ship was great. We especially loved The District. So we booked this 10 day cruise on the Epic and overall it was a little disappointing. We had a good time - we were on a cruise, how could you not have a good time?? - but we have definitely had better experiences. The ship is very dark. Unlike Escape, which has tons of outside seating via restaurants, there is very little outside seating other than on deck 15. So if you are walking around the ship on the inside, you rarely see daylight. When you walk into the cabin you are basically standing in the bathroom. It is the strangest design I have seen so far. You walk in and the toilet is on the left, then a sink next to it, and the bathtub/shower is on the right. There is a curtain you can pull shut to separate this area from the rest of the cabin, but there really is no privacy or no separate bathroom as such. We had booked a mini suite and on Escape, in a mini suite, we had a beautiful, big bathroom, which double sinks, and a nice shower. There was enough room for both of us to get ready. I am really not sure what the big difference was on Epic regarding the mini suite vs a regular cabin. The food at Cagney's was amazing, Moderno was just ok, and the food at the Garden Cafe was really disappointing. There was a much better selection at the Garden Cafe on Escape and the food tasted better. We were excited to see that Andre (the assistant cruise director from Escape) was actually the cruise director on this ship, but even this was disappointing. On EScape we constantly ran into Tyler and Andrew, they were hilarious, and they interacted with the passengers. While Andre mentioned at the end of every announcement his made that it was his mission to meet each and every one of us, we rarely saw him on the ship. My husband and I were actually discussing going back to RCCL. WE have a lot of loyalty points accrued with them, but after our first Norwegian cruise we were so thrilled we decided to give them another try. However, after the last two Norwegian cruises we decided to stick with RCCL. Read Less

The smoke on deck 6 made us sick, had to see the onboard doctor, which really messed up our cruise. We love the Cavern club, but it was so packed that we couldn't enjoy it. People went to the show before and just hung out. Food from the Cirque was not good at all. The meat was cold. The biggest disappointment was that they only had two scuba (we are advance divers) excursions. They did not have any for Cayman or Belize which are amazing dive sites. We had to do our own for Jamaica, Cayman, and Belize. That was a huge disappointment. When we travel on Carnival they are working with us on the ship to schedule dives if they do not have any set up. Norwegian staff would not. The TV vacation planner did not work. We would have things schedule and it would not show up and then we didn't think we had it when we did. This happened in regards to a show and in regards to a dinner reservation. The iConceirge Ap said there was an upgrade and I was never able to use it. We did the Blackjack tournament and asked to get into the one of the rounds on a table that was not filled up and she said it was after 12 when our watches said 1158 and she would not budge even showing her the time. I was penalized in the Blackjack tournament for pushing two stacks of chips in one move onto the betting space when the lady running it told me I could not and then the next lady that took over told people to do it. Bathrooms on deck (not in the room) were often out of paper towels. The embark and disembark were nightmares. I've never had that kind of problem on any other ship. My wife said she would never want to travel on Epic again but I probably would (but not without her). After the experience, I prefer Carnival and the way they do things. Overall my wife and I have a great time on this particular cruise. It was mainly due to the ports we stopped at. However, there were a few areas that really bugged us. The embarkation process was took longer than in Miami. When we arrived in the morning there were very few people outside the terminal to give us assistance. Even when we were about to enter the terminal the gentleman standing next to the escalator looked totally asleep and was telling people to go up the escalator even though there was no room at the top of the stairs. The main thing that really bothered us about this particular cruise is that NCL decided to bypass Great Stirrup Cay even though the weather was beautiful. They said the tenders couldn't do there thing safely. This really surprised me since the water was no rougher than any other time we needed to be tendered in. From the CC and You Tube reviews I have looked at it seems NCL skips GSC all the time, so I wondering if there really is a tender issue or they do some revenue calculations to keep people on the ship to gamble or spend more money. Hopefully that is not the case, but it was a beautiful sunny day when we were supposed to go to GSC. The ship itself is ok, but it's my least favorite of the NCL ships my wife and I have been on. There were many areas that needed maintenance, including the bathrooms. Many soap dispensers and faucets worked or barely worked. I also saw water on the floor a lot of the times I used the bathrooms. The decor is very dated and looked more like an old Carnival ship. There were very few bars which made getting a drink a challenge most of the time. Many times I had to wait at least 10-15 minutes before got our drinks. The bars seemed to be understaffed at times too. The food was good as usual though, but the Manhattan room was a nightmare most times we dined there. A couple times it took two hours to get through dinner. Two of the nights we didn't see a waiter for 15-20 minutes. That had never happened to us on any other NCL cruise. Plus some of the staff in the Manhattan looked terribly disinterested in working, which again was really odd for an NCL ship. The specialty restaurants were great as always. The staff in Cagney's and Teppanyaki were awesome! I did notice the steaks were much smaller and thinner than our last NCL cruise :-), but everything still tasted great and quite honestly the food was plenty for me. Some of the guests were saying there was a lot of training going on, which may be the reason for the bad service in the Manhattan room. These guests said one of the crew members said the training was the reason we didn't go to Great Stirrup Cay, which I'm not sure I believe. Something was definitely up since the service on this ship was definitely inferior as compared to the newer ships. The communication on the ship seemed to be poor too. We rarely heard announcements on the ship and when I called the front desk with questions they gave me wrong answers each time. The told us that self-disembarkation was on the 6th floor, but it was actually on the 5th floor. That made it a little tough when trying to get back on the elevator and we lost our place in line. Even the staff located on these two floors really didn't seem to know which was the right floor. Even though I pointed out some negative items on this cruise, my wife and I still had a good time on the ship, but an even better time off the ship. We're booked on a couple more NCL cruises, so we hope the bad service etc was a one-off and won't happen in 2019. We may cruise on the Epic again, but maybe after they refurbish it again. It definitely needs a lot of work. Oh, btw....they had part of the ship fenced off while they did some pipe work. The grinding and sanding was not exactly music to my ears, nor was the burnt metal smell. I hope this information was helpful and good luck on your next cruise! Read Less

We've cruised several times with NCL in the past, but only on shorter cruises and smaller ships . Based on our past experiences, we were really looking forward to our 10 days on the Epic. Our cruise started off on a really bad note. We arrived at Port Canaveral just after 11am, and there was already a long line. We got into line and soon realized the line wasn't moving, and nobody was being allowed into the terminal. Busloads of people continued to arrive, and without any authority to guide the situation, the line soon turned into just a mob. Several lines formed, some people knowingly or unknowingly cut into lines, and the crowd became vocally unhappy. Still no official from NCL or the Port was present. Eventually, some of the passengers found some line stanchions that weren't being used, and on there own tried to make some lines. It was truly chaos outside. It was quite windy and cold outside. Eventually, the line started to slowly move. It took us more than 3 hours of standing in line to get onboard the ship, and it was really all most people were talking about. Once onboard, things got quickly better. Good things about cruise: Crowds were reasonable considering ship was full (4100 people). Staff was awesome. Restaurants and bars were great. We enjoyed O'Sheehan's being open 24 hours for snacks. Ship seemed clean and well maintained. The best bathroom ever on the pool deck. Water slides were a lot of fun. Lots of good entertainment, especially Epic Beatles. Good ports of call with lots to do. Lots of places to go to escape crowds. Not so great things about cruise: Didn't get to go to Great Stirrup Cay due to rough weather. We've been scheduled to go to Great Stirrup Cay 4 times, but have only made on the island twice. I realize it's a safety decision, but it's still disappointing. In humid weather, the tile floors in buffet got quite slick. Bathrooms in staterooms a bit weird. Cavern Club venue not big enough to hold Epic Beatles crowd. Read Less

This is my 4th cruise on Epic (previous cruises include 3 TA's). I shared a cabin w/a former SO and invited two friends in a separate cabin. We both were in balcony cabins; although we didn't spend a lot of time on the balcony, it was worth the extra money. Because I had experienced Epic, I was excited to introduce my friends to NCL. Upon getting on Epic, we got in line to make reservations for dining (we doubled up our dining by eliminating the internet package - smart move!); with our reservations set (so we thought), we found a spot by the window for some drinks and snacks at the Irish Pub. Where we sat in the Irish Pub we were able to view a rocket launch from the Cape. What an incredible way to start a cruise~! Somehow, the reservations we set up were lost in the computer, so we had to go back and try to correct the issues - HUGE problem. On a full ship, the "ideal times" get booked up fast. At first, the staff seemed to show no concern, nor did they apologize. My SO and her friends were frustrated and upset and the comments about how this would never happen on RCCL (they're sold on RCCL and their offerings). Because I had been on Epic (three weeks prior on my third TA), I knew a members of the management team on Epic. They did an amazing job and helped to correct the situation. There were other issues on the ship, most of them were minor issues due to staff attitudes (they are human and NCL works them hard!), so a smile can go a long way (along w/showing some empathy). While in the MDR most of the food was tasty. All in all, we had a great time experiencing all Epic has to offer. Great staff from the room attendants, wait staff and the entertainment was great. From Howl @ The Moon, to the comedy - all was great (be careful later at night, the songs and the jokes are adult theme). The Epic theater was great as usual. The evening at Cirque was a lot of fun - even if the dinner was less than stellar. The Specialty dining was enjoyed by all in the group and we highly recommend it. My SO wanted to do the French cuisine @ Le Bistro and La Cucina were okay (La Cucina staff were infinitely nicer); Teppanyaki was a lot of fun and tasty!; Moderno and Cagney's were excellent (as usual); Shanghai's/Noodle Bar (not specialty dining) are worth a visit (or two); Manhattan seems to be a step up over Taste ( try to get a table in the back - it's a great view); O'Sheehan's Irish Sports Bar is great for snacks and drinks; can't comment on Wasabi - never tried. Did the Ice Bar on the final night - not sure if it was worth the extra $; still a good experience (AND COLD - make sure you dress appropriately, even with their supplied coat~!). Our first port was the NCL private island Great Stirrup in the Bahamas - because of winds/weather, we did not stop. More than one person was upset we didn't stop and I've heard they miss this stop about 1/3 of the cruises. Port Two: Ocho Rios, Jamaica - We signed up for Dunn River Falls followed up with a kayak tour. While we had a good time, expect to pay double in tips from everyone that "helps" you. From getting off of the tour bus @ the Falls all the way to turning in your kayak, everyone expected a tip (AND they reminded you all the time). My advice: wait until the end of the Falls to tip AND at the end of the kayak tour (if you decide to tip). After the excursion, we ended up in town (AND hungry). Stopped for food and drinks combined with shopping. In the shops DO NOT PAY the price listed - haggle with them. Be careful about purchasing liquor here. We enjoy Bumbu Rum - they wanted $125 (US) for a bottle we pay $35 (US) in Florida. Port Three: Georgetown, Grand Cayman - Because it was Sunday, the Rum Factory was closed, so we took the local bus to the beach. We brought our own snorkeling gear, but the water was less than ideal. Beer and food on the beach was fun - expensive, but you're on vacation, right? Port Four: NCL's Harvest Caye in Belize - The drink package we purchased onboard did not apply here so, pull out your wallet. We chose to do the zip lines - an excellent choice~! While we had a good time, NCL should make the drinks package accessible while at their own location. Port Five: Costa Maya Mexico - We did a non-NCL excursion and toured ruins and visited a small village where we had the BEST TIME!! They taught us how to make tortillas from scratch and fed us the best food! Port Six: Cozumel - The three ladies paid to go to a beach and I opted to rent a scooter and toured the island. I stopped at a roadside taqueria and enjoyed local food. I drove along the shore on the loop and stopped along the way to check out the beaches and local watering holes. If you like to explore on your own and off the beaten path, I recommend this. All in all, Epic is one of my favorite ships to cruise on. IF you prepare ahead of time (reservations for shows, and dining), do some research before you get on Epic, your investment (time) will be rewarded. Expect crowds on these large ships; Epic is a quirky ship (only one of it's kind - the other two NCL planned on building were never built/commissioned) and you can get lost on Epic. If the worst part was the embarkation, you're fine. Food solid all around with plenty pf variety. Entertainment amazing, just make sure you reserve. Activities well planned and more than enough. Please ignore people who are never happy, complaining about stupid stuff while refusing to see the bigger picture. If you couldn't find something to eat or do on this ship, the problem is you, not the Epic. You go on a megaship then complain about it being crowded. Doesn't make sense. All these small things could happen any time. Sure, they need a bigger port, but miniscule detail. Embarkation started badly, but ended smooth and once on board it was forgotten. Complaining about the room? It's a place to sleep, shower, and poop. The layout is non issue for me. It was all around fantastic and highly recommended. The cabin was functional and works. I like the separate toilet and shower. Itinerary was good, a little disappointing not getting into great stirrup, but I get it. Jamaica is beautiful. Andre, the cruise director is fantastic. If you want quiet and relaxing in luxury, go on a smaller niche ship. The pros far outweigh the cons. At the end of the day, you're on vacation. Read Less

This was our second voyage on the Epic, it isn't may favorite ship but hey I was on a cruise so nothing to complain about. The thing I don't like about the Epic is the location of the casino and the smoky air. I wish cruise ships would put smokers in a glass room. I have breathing issues and it really bothers me. I don't understand why cruise companies would ruin their ships with smoke. We had a great time overall though. It was our first 10 day cruise (other cruises have been 7 days) and it was fantastic. Didn't get to stop at Great Stirrup Cay, was looking forward to exploring the other side of the island that we didn't get to when we were there the first time, but we got an extra sea day which are my favorite. We did however go to Harvest Caye the other private island and boy is it beautiful island. We also stopped at Ocho Rios, Jamaica, George Town, Cayman Islands, Costa Maya and Cozumel. I love cruising in the Caribbean but I am getting tired of the same ole stops. I really wish they would add new stops to the itineraries. Read Less

We have done 54 cruises this was maybe the worse and only cruise I would say I wish I never did.Cabin design well they only made one like this should have been a clue.sink,shower,toilet all separate and small..Our room was never cleaned at the right times we were always just returned to room be in shower or ready to go to bed for the night when he would show up to clean room,we tried different times even asked him what time he would nothing worked.Lines for everything long lines didnt seem to matter if you reserved or not.Food almost always cold if we were lucky it would be warm slow service in dining room,The specialty dining was better,we ended up eating there 5 times.Pools THE WORSE of any cruise I have ever been on.The weather was beautiful the pools were Very hot every day many people complained,a couple days the pool was as hot as the hot tubs,crew not real friendly officers no where.The ship was clean,and we had a drink card which apparently means you get your own drinks service slow.The more I think about cruise the bad things I remember so I will stop No more ncl for us back to Princess and Celebrity and Holland Read Less

This cruise was recommended to us. We have been saving and preparing for this trip for over a year. This was my wife's birthday week. The checking in and boarding process was long and hot. Designated arrival times do not even matter. Every restaurant/ buffet/ cafe that was included was mediocre at best. If you wanted to see shrimp, and lobster, and other expected cruise ship foods, you will have to get it from the ocean on this cruise. Outside of the cabin Stewart, Casino staff, and some wait staff, the service was terrible. The ship layout has the main buffet dining at the top of the ship, so prepare to walk stairs a lot, because elevators are not efficient unless you go to breakfast at 6AM. My wife went to the spa to have her hair styled for dinner, and the person who did her hair made some insensitive comments about her hair and face that brought my wife to tears when she got back to the cabin. Excursions are chaotic and stressful with a lot of waiting. Recommend going onshore by yourself and doing the same activities at your pace. Felt like a retirement community by 11PM. That's when the bars on the ship start to close up, except Bliss, which smelled like urine, H2O, and the casino. Prepare to go to bed early on this boat. From the moment we stepped on the ship and saw the filthy windows everywhere that we looked I was concerned about the EPIC. Last year we took a cruise on the ESCAPE and had such a wonderful experience that we immediately put money down on another cruise with Cruise next. This year we didn't. The Epic was a huge disappointment. Unlike The Escape, not once were any of the windows/balconies cleaned while we were in port. Our room was filthy and the bathtub was filled with mold. The room steward never refilled anything like sugar, shampoo, lotion, soap etc. The boat was so noisy and shuddered continuously. So much so that the glass doors on the tub and the toilet rattled all night, every night. The first time I went into the room and used the toilet, there was a piece of glass and I cut my foot open...not a great start!! The television had so little options with channels and we had to keep watching the same 10 minutes of a crappy cartoon in between shows. We never knew that the first port in the Bahamas was a private NCL island and that we had to get a tender, communication was terrible!! Whereas Harvest Caye was beautiful last year, Great Stirrup Caye is in need of a major facelift. The port of call in Jamaica at Ocho Rios should just stop. The beaches are so rocky getting into the water that I was almost over my head in the ocean before I finally felt sand. It was very painful. After speaking to many other guests that went to other excursions on the island they all had the same experiences. During the trip, we spoke to a lot of other people and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAD THE SAME COMPLAINTS! Almost every one of them said that they would never use NCL again, as of right now we aren't sure if we ever will either. If it wasn't for the wonderful experience that we had on the Escape we definitely wouldn't. We saw discrimination against a gay couple by the assistants to the cruise director that made us sick! The glow party was ruined for practically everyone because little kids were allowed to run around and knock over drinks and constantly bump into adults trying to dance and have fun, it wasn't the place for kids. It was brought to the attention to the cruise director by multiple people and he couldn't have cared less. Because of all of this and other reasons I rated this cruise poor...only because it was the lowest option available. Read Less

7 day get-a-way. Food, in 95%, was great, Foods service was great, except for an poorly trained waitress in The Manhattan Room. She was overwhelmed about the group size (11), and table was poorly set up from the start. Blame should be reflected on Dinning Management, for watching and not giving support or assigning help. She was truly in the wrong place. Each shore excursion started off and ended (debarking/ embarking) entering/exit the ship itself was good, but no ground support, or directions or signs to which line one should be in a close proxamtion to the excurtion you were headed to.. 3000 people heading to double set of doors and not knowing where to go. Tenders, Long line down the middle of the boat, then sit for another 45 minutes in the Epic room, to await on a boat. Returning to the ship.. No signs on where the line starts, lines crossing other lines. and very long. Could see Norwiegian crew staff standing around, but not trying to help. Each shore excursion, we planned, was great, once you got into the correct line... The cruise depends on yourself. Want to have a great time, you can, and will. It's what you make it... My advise to Norwegian staff, We are your employers during the trip. Keep your attitude in your cabin. Keep you options to yourself. Smile when you hate it, If you don't know the question/ answer, state that you don't understand, don't lie, or give false information. Your jobs are tough and your hours are long, we commend your services. Many people will work a whole year just to have a week of peaceful time. Boyfriend’s mom booked cruise barely a week before we set sail. From booking to disembarkation, everything was out of this world! Food was phenomenal, customer service was outstanding! Not a single thing I could complain about and the family agrees! Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was consistently delicious and always different. Never had an issue with too many children although it was kid friendly. They had their own section as did the adults so crossing paths was never overwhelming or distracting. The on board shows were super entertaining and the main attraction cirque de solel precormanxe was insane! Unbelievable talent and poise from the performers with just the right amount of comic relief. Throw in a little audience participation and one of the best prepared meals we had on board and you have a night for success. Needless to say, we are planning next years Norwegian adventure already! We booked this cruise a second time because of the solid value offered, and the generally friendly and active passengers we experienced last year. Numerous people remembered us this time as we went about activities and dining, and all were repeat passengers for multiple past cruises. The big values for us were the Burn the Floor dancers that performed in the Manhattan dining room, Epic theatre, and ballroom dance classes. Amazingly fast and complicated moves appeared effortless except for the heat they generated. Many other talent balanced out the performances, including more comedians than last year. Standout hospitality from Roderick in keeping our cabin in perfect shape, even though our schedule was a bit erratic, and from all the food servers in the Shanghai and Manhattan rooms were really appreciated. Wallfredo managed our wine selections with insight and attention, and we have only good memories of many Manhattan dinners. We were laughing one night about what a comparable dinner, Broadway show, late night disco, and hotel in New York would have required; compared to just strolling around the ship for a few minutes and saying thanks for the experience. That’s value. Counterpoints were the smokey casino right in the middle of the ship and the three amenities floors that NCL has not safely ventilated to protect their employees and non-smoking passengers like me. That’s a prime reason for choosing other ships. Secondly, although you can find some healthy foods, they’re re mixed in with hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, sweets and ice cream. Some deserts were labeled “No Sugar Added” but does that mean they are loaded with sugar-alcohols or toxic artificial sweeteners instead. More informative labeling or online ingredient lists would be greatly appreciated. Finally, the entertainment staff needs to expand their playlists to eliminate obnoxious repeats of over-played classics like “Hotel California.” Read Less

We arrived a day earlier to explore Barcelona , Spain. The cruise was average at best. We have been on several cruises with different cruise lines.This ship was okay , but the entertainment was not that great. The food was average. The staff was pretty good. The shore excursions seemed overpriced. We decided to do our own exploring in every port. We found it real easy to get around on our own. Also because of the weather we could not reach Naples Italy. There was basically an oh well attitude among staff in regards to us not getting to Naples. The entertainment on board was below par for a ship of this size. The dining rooms were large .There was a large variety of foods. The problem was that we seemed to have the same menu every other day. Our cabin steward Elton was the lone bright spot on an otherwise ho hum cruise. He was great at his job. My wife's suitcase was damaged by the staff while bringing it on board ship . When i went to customer service the initial response was read the fine print we really don't have to replace it. After some back and fort they finally found her a replacement suitcase that was smaller than her original one . I'm not sure if we will sail with Norwegian again. Read Less

Wow what a ride the winds changed from 50 knots to 100 knots but the captain did a great job. The cruise was wonderful with nice stops in Italy Spain and France. The service onboard was fantastic but a little slow in some restaurants. The French restaurant was the best all round, with the seafood to die for. We had a large balcony which was the best cabin we have had with the staff Jo Ann perfect. The hotel Director the best in the company always with a smile and a joke. Made time to chat with everyone. The ship was very clean and well stocked and the food great in all restaurants. Getting on and off the the ship was ok and the stops were nice but sometimes a long way from the city Rome was 1 and 1/2 hours away and cost to much to get to the big city’s. Read Less

Recently did the Norwegian 7 Day Western Mediterranean tour : Departing Barcelona, Naples, Rome, Florence/Pisa, Cannes, Palma (Majorca) and back to Barcelona. This was our first big holiday without children (!) and we wanted something to remember, so we booked rooms in The Haven. Wow! The Haven room was amazing, we had a balcony and spa in our room plus all of the extras you get with The Haven. I cannot recommend highly enough The Haven. You have your own butler, a concierge, your own restaurant, priority access on and off the boat, early entry into shows on the cruise and many more things. We loved it. The cruise was great too - we missed the port of Naples because of bad weather and went to Civitavecchia. That was a horrible place and not worth getting off the boat for had we known. Lots of con artists walking around trying to get money off people and nothing worth seeing at all. The rest was amazing. The tours through Norwegian was very expensive. I only booked 2 of them at the end. The rest of the tours I did with other tour organisers at each port. Almost half the price for some of the tours. For a couple that just wanted to have some quiet space, fantastic food, great customer service and to be spoilt - this was the perfect experience for us to do that. We used the following tour places for our ports: Cruising Excursions - booked a private tour and saw all the sites in one day (rushed but better than huge coaches full of people). This tour was basically wherever we wanted to go, which we enjoyed. Tour guide was good - but not fantastic with information. We had booked through Viator originally for our Rome port - and they cancelled 2 days before we left, which was really disappointing. Viator (Driver in Rome) - booked a semi-private tour of Florence/Pisa. This tour was great. We got to Pisa before a lot of the other tourists and the tour guide was amazing. Really enjoyed this one. The tours in Cannes and Majorca were through Norwegian - so we were like cattle herded around. Not overly enjoyable but we got to see great things. Read Less

Ship couldn't get special additional items purchased right that i had purchased and spoken to customer service on the phone at length, warm champagne in the room , no ice or glasses, 2nd bottle delivered same way 5 days early,the chocolate strawberries where tiny, canapes never arrived that we had spoken to no less then 5 staff members about and then when I complained the next day they asked why I didn't call ,tea service was 20 cookies, a pound cake a pot of reg coffee and no decaf or herb tea. I don;t eat carbs or caffeine, le bistro was a disgrace the waitress was inadequately trained my frisse salad had no frisse lettuce in it, I asked what came with the duck and I told them no carrots, just give me a spoonful of the cauliflower puree from the lamb, we waited 45 minutes between courses and my duck came out smothered in potato with a 1/2 head of cauliflower on the plate,It was disgraceful that i was paying an additional 5-15 dollars additional a glass for wine in Cucina and Cagneys,The humidor room was filthy all the time due to cigarette smokers, there was almost no place for my husband to enjoy a cigar, Our massage appointment was re-scheduled due to appointments made a week earlier, mine was made 4 months ago, I lost my reading glasses in spa whirlpool which couldn't be found in 5 days $150.00 gone. we had no water for 5 hours on embarkation. We had to go to the bar to get water for the room . We were late getting into Majora due to weather and the mob scene in the cafe restaurant was scary and there was no place to sit at all and the lines for each station were 20 minutes long ....we had all the wrong clothes i was told my husband needed jackets , slacks and a button down shirt in most restaurants, Teppanyaki told us the earliest we could eat was 9:30 there were 4 of us in an empty restaurant, at the Cirque show I was sat in the back and we were told first come first seated well there where 4 seats being held at the next table for the late comers we weren't late on line by 8:55 for 9:30 show. the tour we took from the ship train to sollair, the guild spoke so much broken English it was hard to follow her, there was no white party.more wasted clothes...I was pressured to buy , buy , buy more in the spa, the photographer took pics then told us they were $24 each and not available as part of package photo. The best part of the ship was being off of it on our own tours and we dreaded coming back each day. I spent enough time complaining to customer service that they knew me by name..... Read Less

4th Cruise all NCL, Epic, Spirit Escape and now back on Epic. We had four fantastic days in Italy beforehand two in Rome then two in Florence then returned to Rome for sail, took early train from Florence then connected to Civitavecchia to get the ship. We couldn't see transfer shuttle and ended up walking to port about 35 minutes and as we were excited to get on board it wasn't a problem. We only waited about 30 minutes in the terminal before we boarded about 12.15 Luggage was in the corridor with in 90 minutes and room was ready for about 3.30pm. Smooth as could be hoped for, the benefit of boarding in Rome is that only about 700 people board, after a ship tour and lunch it was muster time in the Epic Theatre for the Rome guests, muster takes about 5 minutes then they spend half an hour telling you what the ship has to offer, we had some beef with this, it was basically a sales pitch and we just wanted to enjoy our cruise many guests thought the same. (cabin review separate) Steward was excellent and always had our room made up and turned down in good time and perfect every time. We had premium all inclusive which gave us 14 bottles of water in our room an excellent addition to our cruise Shows, Priscilla was excellent, the costumes, numbers, acting all brilliant, a must see, some people say reserve but there was a few spare seats. The Epic Beatles, we seen them twice in the cavern club, it was not too difficult to get seats if you get in early but i'm told this is not always the case, we found all the shows, dinning, bars on this cruise were never at bursting point, busy, but not to the ridiculous scale we found on the Escape, especially the Atrium shows everything was very accessible but still a great atmosphere. This point alone made our cruise. The Escape was just tooo much people, even though this is still a "Big Ship" it seemed much less hectic although there was not a great deal of kids on board!! Bliss nightclub has had a great makeover since our last trip but we didn't spend much time here but it looks absolutely stunning , Howl at the moon, one of our favourite shows we got to see three times as there was always seating even mid show, always great! We like shakers but the singer was not our favourite each to their own I guess, also seen Jenifer Fair the operatic singer twice, fantastic!! Ports:- Florence we had already done pre-cruise so opted for a ship day, weather was not the best unfortunately but we were ready to chill and have a book day. Cannes we have done previous cruise so we decided to do Nice and Monaco but decided last minute to do Nice only we did not regret this as time may have been too tight to do both via train and we had a great day in Nice lovely walk along Promenade Anglais then we took the €10 petite train winch let us see more with stunning views. Palma took the NCL $10 bus to the old town and had a great day perhaps our favourite. Drops you off at the cathedral. Barcelona We have visited this beautiful city often so we just intended to walk around the city and reminisce but the previous day we befriended a Canadian couple and ended up giving them the $5 tour which we thoroughly enjoyed, the company made the differance. we spent a few nights in their company nearer the end of the cruise, we love meeting people on the cruises, and we met plenty this time around! Sea day weather sucked, so we renamed it bar day!! Naples We got our only proper excursion here, we used Italytours.EU to do Pompeii Sorrento and the Amalfi coast at only €69 per person we can not recommend them enough. Only 15 people on the modern minibus, so no waiting around on others between stops, we noticed a NCL sanctioned tour in Sorrento and as they walked passed us I noticed there was 50 people + all following each other and they probably paid double what we paid. small groups for the win!! All in all our day was perfect 2 guided hours (€15 entry) in Pompeii, 2 hours in Sorrento alone and great views of the Amalfi coast. Dinning Twice in taste 4 and 3.5 out of 5, Service was slow second night. Twice in Le Bistro 5 out of 5 both times and Cagneys once 4.5 out of 5 Manhattan once 4 out of 5 Garden cafe was so so, bit cold as buffets can be too often!! O'sheenans was always great for some wings and a beer!! Always a great atmosphere on this part of the ship the entire cruise. We even had breakfast there a few times. Overall this was a fantastic trip. All of the ports were awesome with embarkation and disembarkation really smooth with the exception of Naples. Getting back onboard was a chore. The ship itself was awesome. I’ve cruised in the past and I often found myself with nothing to do, or entertainment that wasn’t entirely entertaining. Not the case with the Epic. The shows were fantastic and the dining options were endless. I traveled with a large group and there were plenty of options for us to get together as a group for dinner or a show. The only thing that wasn’t 100% was the quality of the rooms. The ship is a little bit older and the wear and tear was pretty apparent in some places. There were a few spots throughout where it looked like a quick fix was in place, but it was nothing that would have turned me away from sailing on the Epic, or any Norwegian ship in the future. Overall we had a delightful experience aboard the Norwegian Epic. However a few things to keep in mind if you have limited mobility: 1 - Rent a travel scooter before coming - this will give you full mobility on and off the ship. 2 - Most of the excursions through the ship (even level 1) are not conducive for anyone with limited mobility 3 - Get a scooter that can collapse to keep in room - will make it easier than having guest services take overnight to charge (but this is a good alternative) If you can - definitely upgrade to the Haven suites. We booked the Haven spa suite and I was able to walk around the room easily because there were things to hold onto. Not conducive for wheelchair though. I also was able to get a shower chair to avoid soapy slippery floors. At worst case, you can get wheelchair assistance on and off the ship. Based on all of this, we did not know we could rent a scooter beforehand and ended up renting one on the ship for a large price (could have bought one for slightly more than we rented one) but I was grateful the ship had this as an alternative. Also very grateful to the Haven concierge team for their help with our excursions and ensuring that I could get around. Loved the Haven and Specialty restaurants as well as the afternoon treats brought to our cabin each day. Delicious food and great ambiance. As a couple traveling, this offered us wonderful romantic meals, a fabulous balcony off our room to enjoy the views, have quiet space to read and disconnect with each other and see amazing sunsets each day.
