We looked forward to this cruise for over a year. Last time we cruised with NCL meals were awesome, entertainment top notch, service was excellent and staff very friendly. We purchased extras on this cruise, unlimited beverage package, tour package and paid gratuities. During this cruise it was very hard to have someone to take a drink order while around the pool, you had to go to bar and order your own drinks. Highlight of the cruise was our waitress in the Gatsby Lounge she was awesome and spectacular, along with our speciality restaurant Cagneys. The Garden grill had same boring meals breakfast, lunch and dinner. Complimentary Dining Versailles and Aqua hands same meals each night. If Lobster is on your plan or a nice steak sorry your out of luck. Size of appetizers are so small, I ordered Rack of lamb and was looking forward to it and was completely taken back when plate came to me with some kind of shaved meat. Every meal I ordered was the same except for when I order the Fish and Chips from O'Sheeans it was LongJohn Silver quality. The tour in Cano San Lucas highlight of tours. Not sure I will cruise with NCL again unless changes are made. Disappointed. Read Less

When I first booked this cruise I was super pumped because a couple people I know have recommended Norwegian. Getting to the port and on the boat was a breeze and didn't have to wait long at all. When we got on the boat we were all directed to one of the buffet which was total chaos because there was so many people waiting in line, it was hot and very uncomfortable. Once everyone we couldn't even change in a different outfit because it took them all day to get our bags to our room so we weren't able to lay out or get in the pool. So we waled around the ship to find something to do and there was nothing. Everything opened up @ 5, so after finding out that everything didn't open up till 5 we went back to our room to check it out, just to be even more disappointed. We chose a cabin w/ out a window which was fine I wasn't expecting a big fancy room, but the room was very outdated and dirty, the light switches were ungodly disgusting I cleaned them myself because I couldn't believe how filthy they were, our bathroom door was falling apart and had rust on the bottom of the door. The bed was hard as a rock by the end of our cruise my back was screaming. Overall the cabin had good storage & Safe. Also our person who cleaned our room was fantastic and sweet. We had ate at the Buffet, both of the Main Dinings, Cafe, Steak House and Sushi Bar. I think we ate at the Buffet once the first day were they directed us, they did NOT have a good selection of food at all, I was not impressed. We ate at the Cafe for breakfast and lunch because half the food did not look appetizing in the buffet. We ate at the Main Dinings for dinner and they had good selection of food and was very yummy service was great in one area, the other dining room "Crossings" had terrible service I felt like I was waiting for my food forever, and he couldn't understand what I was saying so he kept forgetting items. After the second day of eating at the Main Dining rooms we decided to try the Steak House. Very Very good and very good service. We also tired the Sushi Bar, also very very good and also very good service! What really got to me was the entertainment on the boat, it was terrible. We didn't get off the boat for two of the locations because the weather for one wasn't the greatest and we've been to Nassau before. So we expected some activity on the boat for people who didn't get off. No there was absolutely nothing they did not accommodate to anyone who didn't get off the boat and like I said before nothing opened up till 5 like the casino or the shop. Couldn't really lay out in crappy weather. At night they would have shows but they were so crowded because they only had one giant area so half the people were standing so it wasn't enjoyable. But I've come to conclusion on this boat they have a open bar so why provide good food & good entertainment when you have a bunch of drunks on the boat? NOT IMPRESSED Read Less

We sailed on the jewel 3 years ago and it was good. The Breakaway was a lot newer and bigger, the food wasn't good at all I didn't think anybody could mess up chicken but they can. The dinning room on all cruise lines have the New York Strip Steak I ordered med rare ( all others have ben 1 1/4" thick juicy and tender) It came out a little pink in the middle, like I ordered, and 1/2" thick and very dry, tough and full of gristle, I couldn't eat it. My wife had ordered a mushroom & chicken soup that smelled and tasted spoiled she left it and we went to the buffet, It didn't have spoiled food but the worst buffet we have ever been to. Anything good and some of it was if you went back for more they were usually out of that. One night they had fish & chips and we don't waste food so we got a very small portion and if we found anything good went back and got more the fish & chips was good, like Long John Silvers, I went back after more and they were out. The workers would run into you if you didn't dodge them 2 times I got run into by a worker and made me spill my drink. We got to where when in port we ate the local food and it was always good. The theater was smaller than any ship we have ever been on and I heard of several people being turned away because they didn't have reservations and the theater was full. The comedy club just had wooden chairs with no cushion and small. Over all the ship is just designed to haul a lot of people about 4000 and less entertainment and smaller gathering areas than any of the 6 or 7 cruise ships we have been on. We will not again cruise on a Norwegian Ship. A lot other people we met had the same problems and they said no more Norwegian for them too. This is just a few of the things we didn't like many other small things not worth mentioning. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise on NCL and might be our last. The only warm food we had was in the specialty restaurants. We had drink service twice on the sun deck. The rest of the time we got our own because they took so long and were few and far between.Beware of the “free” meals and drinks. We felt nickel and dimed. The ship felt compartmentalized and was difficult to to get from forward to aft. The special shows were okay, but you had to buy lunch or dinner. Our last impression was our room service breakfast order that we received without the two omelettes. Some of the staff just didn’t seem genuinely friendly, except for our room steward and a couple waitstaff. The food at Savor and Taste was lukewarm. The crab legs at Ocean Blue were overcooked and cold. The rolls were excellent and warm. The lobster was translucent. There were few tables and chairs in the sundeck and pool area. All in all, we had a good time but we’re disappointed in the Getaway. Compared to the Epic and Dawn, it felt like NCL was trying to put as many people as possible in the same space to share the amenities, making this a so so trip. Read Less

The staff and room stewart were excellant. Food was very good and dining staff were freindly. This was a 4300 passenger ship and we prefer the 2400 size of ship as this one was too crowded. Long waits for the elevator. Theatre seated 800 passenagers same size as on the smaller ships. Did not like the crowded pool area on the upper deck- too crowded not eneough lounge chairs. The enteratinemnt was for the most part was mjust OK. We have experienced better entertainment on the smaller ships in the past. We traveled with 2 other couples and like to play cards but the small games room was always full, smae size room as on the 2400 passenager ship size. Will not cruise on the EPIC in the future. I traveled on the 11.17.18 sailing of the NLC Breakaway and was an extremely disappointing experience. The boat felt extremely crowded and oversold. My wife and I were on our first experience with NCL and can not imagine returning based on this experience. We had a Spa Balcony room with the drink and specialty dinning packages. We were unable to prebook our specialty dinning options and once on board everyone was sold out for the duration of the sailing. When contacted Guest Services, we were informed we could "use our options at lunchtime for Margaritaville." The wait times at the bars on board the ship were often times over twenty minuets to get a simple beer due to the lack of staffing so it felt. The overall service levels in all aspects of the ship were below expectations. We did have an attentive cabin steward but was the extent of the positive hospitality we saw on the ship. On return, i contacted customer service, waited over thirty minuets on the phone, and was unable to get any actual help other than they will have to contact the ship and call me back. When I filled out the online help request the note at the end states to allow 15 business days for a response. Read Less

This was my second cruise experience. My review of this ship will be in comparison with our prior cruise with Royal Caribbean. First, the ship was overrun with children. Children at bars, shows, pools, just about everywhere. The adult pool was supposed to be kid free until about 5 pm, and the staff did a good job enforcing it. However, some of the hot tubs around the pool were family friendly and kids were in there. There is an additional small pool area in the back that is kids free until 8 pm, but it isn't really a pool, just two hot tubs and some stairs with water showering down. In comparison with Royal Caribbean, the service was terrible. Staff was uninterested, uninformed, at times rude, and just appeared annoyed a good amount of time. BUT what really did not work for me at all is that this cruise line is NOT vegan friendly at all. If you like meat, then you're all set. If you don't, you are mostly stuck eating french fries and the 1-3 Indian dishes they serve (always. the. same). Yes, you'll have it coming outta your ears. And for everything else you, you have to ask and wait. A long time. No margarine, no plant milks, no tofu, nothing. Even simple things like lentil salad had ham in it, guacamole had sour cream in it. And as the cook informed me, vegetable dishes were made with butter unless you special order. You can special pre-order your meal. I did. And I ended up sitting in dining rooms or dinner shows getting served the same Indian dish I had at the garden buffet for lunch. At Royal Caribbean there were always plenty of choices of Vegan dishes (Asian, Mexican, Indian, etc.) and the vegan menu in dining rooms were always varied and presented nicely. Shore excursions where over priced. We found our own when we got to the ports and paid a fraction for the same things than people paid who bookd through NCL The fitness room was tiny and the ceiling was so low you couldn't push weights up over your head unless you sat down. There was an additional fitness room where they had classes. 25$ a class. Our room was very nice, though, and our stateroom attendant was also very nice. In terms of overall friendliness, Royal Caribbean was 100 times better. Read Less

We chose this ship because of the itinerary to Cuba. The departure went smoothly enough but our cabin was in poor condition as well as most if not all the furniture & fixtures. The dining was mediocre at best however they did serve plenty of drinks. Probably hoping nobody noticed how sub-par everything else was. We saw one comedian show which was fair but not all that funny. I can see why this cruise is an all inclusive drinking package cruise, however they really charge you up the Kazoo for that privilege. I will say the service was pretty good overall and the condition of the ship should not reflect on the service. We traveled with a group of 11 friends which made the trip fun otherwise we would have not chosen this ship or trip. Cuba was a sort of bucket list thing, so it was worth it, however I would not do it again. Cuba was a cool place to visit once, they control everywhere you go and what they want you to see and hear about the culture and lifestyle of most Cubans. Basically what we saw was a country crumbling from within. The infrastructure and the buildings were trapped in a time warp from 1962. It was like something out of a H.G. Wells War of the Worlds. Lots of people doing there best to make a living out of nothing. Sure they have free housing and medical, but who would want to live in a building thats falling down all around them. You'll need the free medical just to stay alive. Oh, and we were told they had no crime? I had to think about that since every 3rd world country I've ever been in has some sort of crime be it petty or more serious. After I thought I about that statement, it dawned on me that they have no crime because no one has anything worth stealing......NO ONE. Well, anyway were glad to be back in Miami for a visit before we go home to Texas. It was and experience for sure but I feel bad for the people there, they must be brain washed or something for them not make a change in the government. Just my two cents. Read Less

This was my first cruise with Norweigan, and I am never going back. Starting with embarkation, the process was painful and confusing. It took several hours longer than expected and when we got on, every part of the ship was already packed with people. During the safety briefing, we were screamed at to shut up and there was broken glass on the floor. There was also broken glass on my parents deck for the entirety of the cruise when it was meant to be hosed off.  Everyday our room steward (she was the only good part) left a freestyle daily for the next day in our room with the itinerary, yet our cruise directory Mandy still announced the events of the day at 7AM at concert level volumes where you cannot even hear the person next to you talking. These announcements were not meant to be heard from state rooms, yet it was as though she was in our room with a microphone talking to us. Sleeping in is not an option. On to dining, I was not even remotely pleased with the food. The quality was abysmal and the service was terrible. There were some nice waiters, but they were the exception not the rule. If you wanted decent food, you had to pay for it. Generally, the food tasted pre made and frozen, if it wasn't it was often undercooked. The options were not great either. The buffet is crowded and the food is poorly made. We were also told almost every day that the wait was 45+ minutes, then only waited about 2 minutes. I don't know if they were trying to get rid of us or what. The wait for food and water was usually pretty long, but the waiters were apologetic. If you are planning on purchasing an internet package for school or work, bring your own laptop and expect to need assistance from the internet manager (only open a few hours a day). Doing work in the internet cafe is nearly impossible as it is located in the atrium where bands play and other events are held until past midnight. Entertainment such as shows cost extra. The ports were alright for the most part, but make sure to keep the weather in mind and plan an alternative if you are doing a private excursion. I would not reccomend doing excursions through the ship as they are overcrowded and overpriced due to the cruise line taking 50% of the initial cost. This cruise is not great for kids or adults. If you purchase the drink package, know that there are very few bartenders and they dont know how to make a lot of drinks. People still made it work though, as on the first night there was an old woman who walked around grabbing butts (mine too). The arcade package is insanely expensive, and the children services are subpar. This cruise has some cool slides, but there is only one pool for everyone under 18 and the deepest it gets is 4 feet. The play area for littles also looks very dangerous. This is not the cruise for a family. If you want to go on a cruise and have a good time, look into Carnival. They do everything better. Read Less

We went on this cruise with a group from a radio station. The rooms were so small two people could not move around at the same time because there was a king sized bed taking up most of it. For us, that was a waste. There was a odor which was similar to sauerkraut on certain levels of the ship that never went away. The food was serviceable but nothing outstanding. I can say the same about staff. On other cruises, the staff genuinely seem like they are happy to do anything for you (before you even realize you need or want it done). This staff wasn’t like that at all. One big negative for me was I got a hot shower the first day but not a single time after that! Worst of all, our room was right under the buffet style dining room. The sounds of the staff working at all hours was jarring in our room and while the bed was comfortable, I couldn’t sleep for all the racket. We purchased the specialty dining package but didn’t get to use it because there were no reservation times still available! Overall, pretty disappointed. Read Less

We booked a girls cruise and looked forward to a relaxing trip. The ports looked good on paper but when we stopped, it was usually a remote port built by NCL so you didn't get a good feel for the country. Even in Cozumel, we docked further away from the main port and had to walk a long way to get to the main shopping area. You prepay your tips for staff and as a result, the staff doesn't hustle or provide exceptional service. Main restaurant staff are slow, disinterested and don't always get orders correct. You feel like a bother asking for coffee and water. The exception was a great server we found in the Tropicana dining room. They offer music or dancers so book this room if you aren't doing specialty dining. Bar/ pool service is slow so if you have the unlimited drink package, order them in 2s to save time on long waits. There are a couple of exceptional bartenders but that is the exception. Room steward was efficient but our sheets were never changed. If you use any of the soap/lotion, don't expect any more put out. We had 2 bath towels for 2 people so you have to time your showers to ensure you have a dry towel to use later. They are very strict on the pool towels so don't misplace your towel (and hope your room steward doesn't pick it up) since they won't give you a replacement and threaten to charge you for it! Skip the spa. Everyone I talked to had the same experience where they waited 20-45 minutes past the scheduled time for a service. Staff couldn't remember where they "parked" a guest to wait. You aren't pampered while you wait with anything (nice music, cool cup of water or a fuzzy robe would be nice touches while you wait). Staff is trained to sell, sell, sell rather than provide a relaxing experience. Some would say to let guest services know when you are disappointed in something but they were so short staffed (lines waited up to an hour) and unfriendly so that wasn't worth it. Cirque show and Burn the Floor dancers were terrific! Overall I was very disappointed in NCL. The ship was pretty and it is nice that they refurbish them every 5 years but NCL doesn't deliver on service. Read Less

We are returning customers. Our previous experiences help us deciding to take this trip also. Are we disappointed this time or what. Room is clean. Shows are ok. The restaurants are not what they promoted. There's no free style. No shorts. No caps, no sleeveless shirts for man but ok for women. Food is unacceptable. Some of the crew members are great. Some look down to you if you order coffee or water. We traveled with Celebrity, MSC, Holland, Princess, Carnival and Norwegian. An advise for the entertainers, stay away from political jocks. Not nowadays. The people are already divided politically as never before. We're on the cruise to get away from this issues. Please, don't build up tension anymore than it already is. Buffett has a large selection of culinary cuisines but the quality is absent. Sugar free sweets are not offered. We hope that the rest of this trip will be fine. Read Less

My family and I (husband and 12 year old son) went on this ship to Bermuda out of NY. The NY cruise terminal was organized and an easy process. The ship looks very nice, our balcony room was nice, and the house keeping staff kept our room clean twice a day. Getting off and on the ship was easy enough in Bermuda and the destination was wonderful. The Zumba workout was great. I had a Swedish message with felt amazing but then after it was over they tried to sell me products, had me speak to the acupuncture doctor, and wanted me to have my foot scan done. All I wanted was a massage and to relax. We enjoyed the comendy/magician the most out of all entertainment on the ship. I will say that is about all I can say positive. My family has cruised before and I couldn't help but notice some big negatives about this cruise in comparison to others. First the food was not great and a big disappointment. I did not pay extra for dining so this is just about the food at the buffets and main dining rooms. Margaritaville is now a restaurant you have to pay for. On the breakaway it was free dining. The ship felt disorganized. Many of the staff members seemed to be at a lose when I asked questions. I was lost at times on when things took place and with all the extra charges on things I couldn't really keep up with what was included and what was an up charge until I tried to reserve a spot at the shows. With all the confusion on the I missed the Brat Pack show and was pretty bummed about it. I heard positive feedback on the ship from others but wouldn't know myself. My family loves the shows so this was a real let down that we missed a show that they were charging us extra for. By the time I realized we hadn't seem it we were 4 days into the cruise and the show was no longer playing. After Midnight was a talented group of people but no beginning to end story line to the show. The show was nice but not the type of show I would rave about. Cleaning service was the best. Dinner service was poor most nights, had to ask for drink refills numerous times and one night we were at dinner for about 2 hours. We left without dessert because it was such a slow service. Also the dinner with live entertainment is very loud and we couldn't talk to one another. Bermuda destination is amazing. Getting on and off ship was easy. I enjoyed that. Finally if you have children- please note after 11 pm there is nothing to do with your child. All venues close for kids at 11 pm. Some of you may think that is fine but our son is 12 years old and we tend to stay up a little later on vacation. It would have been nice to be able to do things with him until at least midnight (comparing this to other ships and cruise lines we have been on). The main pool is adults only. There is no inside pool area. The watersides were nice though. The rope course had a lot of areas closed due to high winds (most days). Basketball and soccer is outside. All bball and soccer tournaments were 13-17 or 18+. The kids zone went up to 12 and then there was the teen zone that started at 13 so my son felt too old to be in the younger one and wasn't old enough for the teen zone. So he didn't participate in that at all. Overall this was not my favorite ship. I will definitely be cruising with another cruise line moving forward. We had a much better experience on another line and so I am a fan elsewhere. I really wanted to give an honest review for others who value these reviews and who are thinking of cruising on this line. I will say this is just my opinion and our experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise secondary to the itinerary. The cabin was quite small compared to other NCL ships we have been on. Our steward did not turn down our bed three nights out of seven and did not receive our usual towel animal five of the seven nights. The food in the formal restaurant was inedible much of the time, had to go to the buffet or O'Sheehans for food after disappointing meals. The entertainment was the best thing on this cruise, professional and talented performers. The rest of the staff was either average or below average, not friendly, did not go out of their way. We did most excursions on our own as they were either half or one third of the price of going through NCL. I received a card as we celebrated my birthday on one of the days we were on the ship. They sent me a card and asked if there was anything they could do to make more day more special, please let us know. I asked for a reservation for 2 at the main restaurant and their response was it's their policy not to give reservations for a party of 2, so much for them making my day special. I will not be cruising NCL again. The final blow was that we had to wait almost two hours to disembark as there was a barge in the GEM's parking space, almost missed our flight. Horrible cruise. We are an active couple in our mid 40’s and this was our first cruise (and I’m pretty sure it will be the last one), which turned out to be a quite disappointing experience for us. THE PRICE: We were unpleasantly surprised by the additional “service fee” (added more than $200 to our cruise price) which NCL hit us with, when we got onboard. We found out about that fee on the last day at sea – our credit card was being charged the $200 without our knowledge. We booked our NCL cruise via Orbitz and paid everything in full (incl. all the taxes and fees) and there was absolutely no mention about any additional “service” fees that will be charged to our credit card when we sail. The NCL customer service rep. explains this fee as “mandatory gratuities”? I won’t mind giving gratuities, but if this is a legit fee, it should be added along with all other fees when people are booking. Therefore, they’ll know the real price of their cruise and base their choice of cruise on that. When you book a cruise, they present you with a really attractive price. Then, with all taxes, fees, and gratitude’s, the price doubles. Add to that “onboard internet” ($30 per day), “Shore Excursions” (stating from $100 per person for 3-4 hour excursion ), overpriced drinks, soda, water…plus 20% gratitude charged for everything you buy on board….. and your vacation may turn into a really expensive one. This is called “Deceptive pricing” THE PORTS: The first time “cruisers” should know that when a cruise line advertises that you will visit specific countries/ports, it may NOT be what you think. Usually they will disembark you on their own, small “private island”, far from the main land or any cities, and you will be stuck with the same routine: stay on an overcrowded beach, buy drinks, eat the same “cruise line” food, etc.… The only way to see some of that country is to sign up for a shore excursion, but the prices are quite high -usually $100 and up per person. THE CRUISE: It turns out NCL can cancel or change (with or without any reason) the ports and your travel itinerary, with no compensation of any kind. We were supposed to visit The Bahamas, Cuba, Belize and Mexico. But, on the 5th day of our cruise, half of a mile from the port of Harvest Caye, Belize, they canceled the day at Belize due “strong wind” ? It was a beautiful sunny day and the wind completely stopped 30 minutes after the ship turned back from the port, but I guess it was too much trouble for the captain to make a second attempt. Instead of visiting Belize (which along with Cuba was the main reason to get on the 7 day cruise) we spent another boring “day at sea”, with nothing else to do but lay around the overcrowded pool . When we asked the customer service rep for some sort of compensation (partial refund, free drinks for that day…anything) they said there won’t be any compensation, but they will return our Belize “port fee” of $39??? We would never get on a 7 days cruise, if we knew that we would be spending 4 boring days at the sea! THE ONBOARD ENTERTAINMENT: 90% of the NCL onboard entertainment is trying to sell you something – from questionable quality art (mostly lithographs and serigraphs) to “onboard lottery” tickets, shore excursions, watches and jewelry. The only decent form of entertainment was the 45 min evening variety show (which was really good). The median age of the people on our cruise was about 65-70 years. I guess this is the age group that still finds a cruise vacation attractive. If you are younger, more active people – a cruise may not be the best way to spend your vacation. Read Less

The public areas are garish and dated and though our cabin was small, it was comfortable. It had only one outlet, but we did not mind. Embarking was smooth and we were excited for an autumn cruise. The crew. I know they work hard and are understaffed. However, it was not that the crew was inattentive; they were snarky and went out of their way to be unhelpful. There were eye rolls, wrong information and shoulder shrugs when asking for assistance or a question. I have never seen employees look so annoyed and contemptuous. We were unable to dock at Prince Edward Island because of terrible storms. They seemed not to be able to cope with change in schedule and not many things to take place of docking. We did not buy the private dining plan and the good was mediocre. Think Holiday Inn. Not terrible but not tasty and often served barely warm and not with a smile to be sure. There may have been a different experience if we had bought the private package. Because we were not able to port, I had to buy internet to deal with a family emergency at home. It was so slow when it worked and I bought 2 packages worth over 200.00 to connect a few times. It was difficult to turn off and if you had downloaded to 2 devices it often charged double time. Again, I had no choice as this was option as unable to port. If you know you will not need to connect with mainland for any reason, this won’t be an issue for you. I took this cruise with a friend hoping to convince my husband, who is no fan of cruise ships, that this was an option for South America as opposed to a smaller ship. I was also hoping to like it enough to treat extended family to a cruise as they live next to a port and it would be easier to do that then fly them to our home. This may still be an option, but definitely not with NCL. If you are thinking about a foliage cruise or visiting Nova Scotia I would recommend it as it is beautiful. However, do not take NCL. We booked our Cruise through Costco. We SPECIFICALLY chose this itinerary as it had 1 full day in Havana Cuba and was supposed to have the 2nd day in Havana Cuba until 2 PM. We double and triple checked time in Cuba. After a while, I noticed on the website that it was then only showing 1 day in Havana. I was given no explanation for this change other than "they had the right to change the itinerary." I felt this was bait and switch since it was not weather related. Due to this, I would not recommend Norwegian, I do have to say, the staff was excellent and attentive. The bed was hard. Toilet overflowed as it would not stop running. We were sopping up water and when they finally got there, they said, "This happens all the time." Dining room food was good. Cafe food was not that great. Entertainment was excellent. The spa was excellent. The only negative is that gratuity is built in and then charge slip asks for an additional gratuity and puts you in an embarrassing position if you don't add something. Shore excursions were way overpriced for what you get. We booked a private tour from reviews on Trip Advisor and had a wonderful time at a fraction of the cost. Read Less

I gave it a poor review because originally we were to go to Juneau and instead went to Icy Strait. Then the last stop was to be Victoria 6pm to 12 pm. There was a medical emergency on the boat and our stay in Victoria was from 10:45 to 12:15. By the time you get off and then back on you have no time. Also it was so late everything was closed. The entertainment was very poor on the trip also. When we think if cruise entertainment we think Vegas. It was nothing of Vegas quality. Alaska was absolutely amazing. The staff was very friendly and did a wonderful job. Our room was spacious enough and comfortable. The food was good. We only ate at the complimentary restaurants. We did do excursions and they were great. Like I said before, Alaska is amazing. The views are breathtaking. We just thought for the amount we pay for a cruise it should be amazing all around. I chose this cruise because a few friends who have been in the cruises before decided to go again with a group of other people so my friend and I decided to go along. Also its route was interesting for me as I have not been any of these places. Very unlucky, the three ports out of 5 were cancelled. As a result, everyone was forced to be in the cruise with limited entertainment offered but food and food. In this day and age, the forecast of the weather conditions should be easily obtained and alternative plans should have been scheduled in case. On top of that communication between the crew officials and the people on board was poor. Lessons to learn: never travel in a big cruise as such. There were too many people crowed around and often we needed to look for places to sit. There was no flexibility to do what was not planned if any "bad" weather condition occurred. No plan B or C so to speak! People in our group of over 60 people have all expressed unsatisfactory over the whole experience. And almost all said that would never take this cruise again. Read Less

Booked through a casino corporation for our third NCL cruise and it appears the cruise line is going downhill consistently. In fact the casino is the only facility/attraction/entertainment on board we can recommend. The entertainment is tedious, repetitious, and well below reasonable standards. Sing, dance, sing, dance,; rinse and repeat. In the past other ships we have been on have had decent bands throughout the ship during both the evening and night hours, the NCL Escape had as far as we could tell, two bands and one singer who sang in spanish to recorded music and all three were marginal. Are there was also a DJ in the Skyliners bar who played nothing but rap music at ear splitting volume attracting a certain clientele and behavior we were uncomfortable with. We paid an additional fee to eat six nights in specialty restaurants but honestly we can only say one of those meals was what we would call good the rest were simply average and the one night we spent in the complementary restaurant was simply terrible both in terms of the food and the service. We were unable to visit one port because the winds were too high for the tenders and were forced to spend another boring day at sea. We understand you can’t control the wind but certainly you can be prepared to offer additional on board activities and make sure that people know about those activities; apparently NCL does not agree because that was a completely wasted day. How hard is it to prepare for an almost certain eventuality like a closed port? This is a huge company with a large number of chips, they should have done a better job and been better prepared. The staff was generally friendly but the language differences were almost insurmountable in many cases, especially with those in guest service positions which is baffling. Shore excursions were pretty average in both selection and choice. Next time we'll look beyond NCL and urge you to as well. Read Less

I was so excited to finally go on the Alaskan cruise, but ended up disappointed in the overall experience. The staff in the restaurants were grumpy and the food was mediocre. The mini-suite was very small and there was barely any closet or drawer space. However, the Norwegian Bliss is a beautiful ship and the entertainment on board was great. We didn’t get to the glacier because of a medical emergency on board. I understand, but it is also the reason most people go on the cruise and the line should have made better arrangements to get seriously ill off the ship. It was a beautiful day and calm day so weather was not an issue. The salmon fishing excursion in Kethickan was outrageously expensive. Our boat got 3 keepers but some of the boats didn’t catch any. The best excursion was to Mendanhall Glacier and whale watching, well worth the money. The White Pass train was also a fun experience and the scenery was breathtaking. There was way too much wasted time at sea and stopping at British Columbia at 4:00 pm and departing at 10:00 pm was a complete waste of time. Overall, the Alaskan cruise departing from Seattle on the Norwegian Bliss was disappointing to mediocre at best. Read Less

We chose this cruise to see the Baltic States and we were pleased with all the ports. However, the NCL Breakaway was a big disappointment. Embarkation in Copenhagen was easy and we were on board by 12.30 but our mini-suite (12824) was no bigger than our normal verandah cabin on RCI or Celebrity and so don’t imagine suite means spacious! Our cabin steward was delightful and gave us every assistance we asked for. So, to the problems. The layout of the ship means that there is no central stairwell/lifts and only a set forward or aft. Our cabin was midway! The ship’s company when designing had obviously tried to jam as many cabins in as possible at the expense of open lounge areas that were quiet or bars that were quiet. There simply wasn’t a quiet place to sit anywhere on the ship except in the library or card room. Usually these rooms on ships never see a soul from one week to another but on this ship, the library offered a quieter (not quiet, it was right next to the atrium where all the public games were held) place and so was constantly full when we were at sea. The general noise level of music no matter where you were on the ship became increasingly annoying and I’m glad we only had two sea days. The quietest location was our cabin, as has been said before. The other annoyance was the fact that we’d prepaid our gratuities (this is obligatory for Australians taking cruises). That in itself wasn’t the problem, but the issue came with the ship’s crew, particularly in the dining room. The second night we went to the main dining room and were shown to a four-person table (only 2 of us) and about five minutes later another couple were shown to the adjacent 4-seater table. They removed the cutlery and then proceeded to serve the other couple first in all things. A minor issue you, the reader might say, but it was pointedly obvious that the second couple had not prepaid gratuities and so the grovelling that went on meant we were ignored, food was served cold and we were disgruntled. The receptionist at the dining room can see who’s prepaid and who hasn’t so all staff are made aware of who they have to butter up and who they don’t. Needless to say we chose the buffet for all future meals. And finally, we carefully read the ships rules before we embarked, declaring our two bottles of spirits which we were immediately told would be tipped out because the seals were broken (we’d been travelling for three weeks by this stage and had duty free from another country). As there was no opportunity for us to get our hands on the bottles whilst they were below decks, we didn’t see the problem. However, the ship did and on our last night we asked for our bottles to be returned only to be told that they had been ‘tipped out’ and we were not offered any explanation or refund. So, my husband told the purser that we would remove the prepaid gratuities to get some compensation for our loss, to the tune of about $AU360. The ship’s crew missed out and I don’t apologise. The ship’s rules clearly state alcohol must be handed in, which we did, but it didn’t state that bottles must be unopened, one of the bottles was 98% full. Anyway we won’t cruise with NCL again, too noisy and too crushed Read Less

We were looking for a great itinerary.Excellent on Spirit. However we spent too much money on NCL shuttles since they were not free in Dubrovnik or Venice. The food was average and in general the waiters were amateurish in the dining rooms. The entertainment was very limited. We spent most of the time in Champagne Charlie's listening to piano music. No movies were offered in the evening, basically 50 dollars a pop on bingo games. What a rip-off!.The staff in general were very polite especially the room steward. For us the whole trip was ruined by what we observed at the Mercuri vineyard in Katakolon. While walking around we saw three dogs, a hound type, very friendly, chained up with a damaged leg, limping badly. In another enclosure were two Dalmations with horribly infected eyes, filthy dirty. We were very upset to see this. Would we travel with N.C.L. again? Well after two cruises with them and three with Princess. Forget N.C.L. Read Less
