Our previous 2 cruises on NCL were definitely 5 star. This cruise was unfortunately a 2 star for us. Sailing out of New York was nice. Easy for us to get to from Philly. Sailing past the NYC skyline and the Statue of Liberty was marvelous. First stop was Port Canaveral. Excursion to Kennedy Space center was shortened by 2 hours which prevented us from seeing some exhibits. Next stop was Nassau. It was windy so, parasailing was cancelled. Spent the day at Atlantis resort which was just ok. Again, we had such a short stop we didn’t get much pool time. Next stop was NCL’s private island Great Stirrup Cay. Unfortunately the seas were too rough for the tenders to safely board passengers so they scrapped that. The captain and crew knew the day before that the water would be too rough, yet they proceeded anyway and made the announcement that we could not get off the ship as we were all lining up to disembark. We spent the next 3 ½ days going 10 miles an hour back to New York. 4000 people trying to get a spot at the pool. We had to carry our own lounge chairs to the aft sun deck and make our own space. What a joke!!! I spoke to several passengers who have done this cruise twice before and they said they have never made it to NCL’s private island. It seems they only get there about 20% of the time. Feels to me like a bait and switch. Their island is a selling point, that’s how they hook you into the cruise. Then the schedule changes because of rough water. Royal Caribbean’s island is next to NCL yet they have a dock where their ships can safely get passengers on shore. NCL has so much money they should build a dock. It’s absurd that they don’t have one already. Staying overnight in Port Canaveral was a waste. Instead they should stay over in Nassau. Would have been nice to get an extra day there. And truthfully, a Florida stop is ridiculous on a Bahamas cruise. The ship was overloaded with small children whose parents were on vacation from parenting. Little children in the casino, teenagers drinking and gambling. Not one staff member did anything about it even though they were alerted to the situation multiple times. Staff friendliness was hit or miss. Our cabin steward was a doll. Staff in the buffet were rude. 9:15pm and the burger bar doesn't open until 9:30pm. WHAT?? We were yelled at not to touch the food. Fitness center is way too small and was packed all day every day. Ship was messy in the common areas and in the elevators. 3 days before the cruise ended all the ketchup, salt pepper, creamer and sweetener was missing from the buffet and Starbucks. Staff was guarding the coffee and juice machines, serving you upon request. We finally got one staff member to be honest and tell us there were 50 people sick with vomiting, diarrhea and influenza. They were trying to keep everything sterile. Don't know how successful they were. My husband and I both left the ship with a bad cold I will say the food was good particularly in the specialty restaurants. Entertainment was also terrific including the band Siglo, The Beatles and the country band Southern Bronco’s. Their lead guitarist was phenomenal. So, we are off cruising for a while. When we do go again it will be on either Royal Caribbean or Celebrity which get higher ratings overall than NCL. To give you an idea how disappointed we were about this cruise to nowhere, we came home and booked a “rebound/do-over” vacation for March. Read Less

The ports of call were tourist traps. Belize was NOT a good port, as it was a small area of shops and a pool built for NCL to dump off the passengers. It is not anywhere near the "real" Belize. Each port was the same, a tourist trap. Cozumel would have been a good port, but it was scratched due to high winds. The food was not good enough for everyone that I talked to. Everybody was complaining about the poor choices and poor quality of the food. The embarkation and debarkation in Tampa was not organized. NCL is short handed. Also, this ship seemed to be a training ship as several of the crew were "learning" about being a crew member on this ship. The attitude of many of the crew was not friendly, as if they were just passing time, and could not care less about the passengers, such as in the O'Sheehan restaurant and in the other reastaurants, as the greeters are working solo when there should be at least two more people at each restaurant in order to seat the passengers. This is a bare bones type of cruise as everything is a la carte. If you want to connect to the NCL cellphone service for ONLY on the ship, passenger to passenger, they charge $10 per cellphone to connect. The payout at the bingo is rediculous. They are paying out less than 20% of the amount collected for bingos. On the last day of bingo, there were several hundred passengers playing, and the 3 bingo winners got a total of approximately $1500, when they charged an amount in excess of at least $9000 to play, as we calculated. The Casino did not pay out at all. Everyone was complaining about that. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, DO NOT BOOK THE DAWN, as you will be disappointed if you are a seasoned cruiser. We went on this same itinerary last year and loved it! We have cruised on the Epic before. This cruise was not what we expected. The elevators were like cattle cars. They were always filled and took forever to get where we wanted to be. The dining in specialty restaurant was very good. The problem was availability after excursions. The staff did not manage the numbers of people that wanted to eat. Lines were fifty deep. The one restaurant opened had an hour wait! This is unacceptable!! They would only have food out by the pool. They knew the numbers of peeps coming aboard and did nothing to alleviate this mess !! On a positive note the entertainment was phenomenal ! Each and every production was first rate and totally awesome!!I would not go on this ship again!! Nor would I recommend it!What would happen in an emergency ? Scary thought.!! Read Less

We are avid cruisers ,over 30 under our belt, mostly Princess and Celebrity. We booked this as a getaway ,and a chance to try Norwegian. Well it did not start well, the port in San Juan can’t handle big ships and there was 2 in port, Epic and a Royal Caribbean . Traffic was atrocious. A 20 minute drive from the hotel ended up a 1 hr 40 min trip . When we did get off the bus at 1:40 pm there was along lineup. They were not letting anyone on! When we were on the bus waiting in the traffic ,we saw3 ambulances and hazmat vehicle rush to the epic. We had to wait in line in the sun for hours , no water until past 3 pm,,, disgusting! Boarded at 5:10 pm ,,,nice! We never got an explanation from the ship about what really happened, rumours abound about people dying on the ship. The ship just completed a transatlantic. We had an interior , it was small but adequate. The ship was beautiful . The pools were a joke! The main pools if you put them together they would be slightly bigger than your average backyard pool . The adult pool in the back of the ship was half the size of my pool. The water temp was a joke ,very warm ,not refreshing! For 4100 people this was also a joke! Food was average ,nothing exciting, Buffett had roasted chicken several times , boring ,one night they had turkey and no mashed potatoes! Staff looked overworked. Cabin cleaners were overworked 14 room versus 10 rooms on other lines. Bartenders were badly overworked. Staff in general were not happy! Entertainment was fantastic! Priscilla Queen of the desert was great! The Cirque show with dinner was great! The Cavern Club with the Epic Beatles was great! Burn the Floor was great! We made the best ,it was okay. It was a 7 day crowd, wont do that again,,lol! Read Less

Caribbean cruise to San Juan, St. Thomas and Tortola with NCL. Overall okay but not worth the money. The pool was either closed or half full of water. When open, the water was ice cold. The big water slide was closed on the entire cruise. Paying an extra $1000 for family access to the Mandarin Spa, you would NOT expect it to be overfilled with people and the toilets not working. Paying through the roof for unlimited streaming WiFi, you would expect it to be streaming and not below 1Mbps 99% of the time. Paying full price for the virtual reality section and then discover that hardly half of the things we're working and the staff just giving excuses. Have cruised on Escape and Bliss, we found that the selections in the Garden Cafe were minimal. Some staff extremely friendly and helpful but this time we discovered more staff than earlier who was not very friendly. The outside bar on deck 8 had one waiter and a long line, then suddenly he walked away, and nobody came back for more than 30 minutes. Not a big deal as there are plenty of other bars, but it's just not what you expect. The ship was rolling all the time as we have never experienced before, but maybe their stabilizers were not working (as many other things) on this trip. We have this sneeking feeling that Norwegian is trying to save in a lot in different areas. We love the free style cruising and the fact we can eat when we like. On this cruise we were not alowed in one day to the Garden cafe for a late lunch. They explained the Garden cafe was closed but would open later for dinner. We never had that experience on Escape or Bliss. The wait time at the go cart track came to about 45 minutes despite reservation. The safety breefing was done by a staff member sitting in a cart with all drivers outside the fence and we could hear nothing. The carts despite being electric was fast enough and it was fun to try. However we think that there is too much go cart track on the ship and too little open space for guests in the pool area that most of the time was over crowded. On the last day we tried to get information about disembarkation procedures and times but could find nothing in the cabin or on the TV. We called Guest Services multiple times, but they never answered the phone. But no worries, we did get off although it was a heck of a walk through the ship and terminals and took more than an hour. We spent like $8,000 plus for three people and did not feel it was worth the money. NCL emailed a survey today, and after answering for 20 minutes and being 65% finished, they asked if I would give a review on Cruise Critic and when I answered yes, the survey was terminated abruptly, and I was sent to the NCL homepage. No "thank you screen" for spending time giving them honest feedback. Overall it's hard to see why we would choose Norwegian again. Read Less

I traveled with my wife and adult children. I watched a lot of reviews but somehow missed that the encore shows and dining reservations fill up the first few hours. The 1st full day of the cruise almost every show was full. I did make one reservation for the teppanyaki restaurant before we left home, it was the best place we ate. The above information is what you need to know from this review. I was able to make reservations for late at night at Cagney's (disappointed) and Ocean Blue very nice place to eat formal ($40 for lobster over priced). We also was able to get in The Choir of Men a must see, and Kinky Boots very well done just not my cup of tea. I enjoyed the laser tag and a couple of virtual rides, but 250 pound weight limit on go-carts. Getting on was easy but crazy first two days with four thousands quest trying to sit around one swimming pool. There was an up-charge of $200 a piece for the adult only area, If you add the space for that and The Haven that is the back top 3 or 4 floors of the ship, off limits to most guests. With only three ports and one of them San Juan only 5:30 pm to 12 pm and most things on shore closed it was wasted port. To much time at sea and not enough space to get away from all the quests. I heard for a couple of staff that even they were not having fun and would try to return to their previous ship. We would not cruise on the encore again. Read Less

We have travelled Norwegian a few times and it has always been good - very underwhelmed by new boat expected more. We had booked a back to back and we were a little disappointed that we had. You had to book for shows never done that before and only found out later there was a standby line. Comedy shows very repetitive they need new material. Choir of Men amazing ! Beyond words made our trip! Kinky boots good to. Entertainment lacking especially on sea days people walking around looking for things to do. Also a lot of disappointment that you were paying extra for Go Carts and Galaxy. Poor people with kids were bankrupt. San Juan arrival way to late it was dark and could not see anything. No quiet spaces. Observation deck lovely but cold. Ganesh, in Garden Buffet a credit to Norwegian. Curry Bar great. Guest services lacking 3 people on for that many people whoops. Staff all kind and protectional Norwegian standard but boat just ok. Adult pool small and kids often in it with life guard watching. Not great access for disabled Not enough seating in Antrim for shows. We did not purchase cruise next is this what is to come for more Norwegian Cruise felt like you were double dipping. Read Less

Read very carefully your freestyle, it's not free! That was just the start. i was told by my sister, who has cruised norwegian. This was better food, better class of people, better service. Four cruised my sister brother in law, wife and i. 10-20 cruises between us. The ship the sun! Very Nice, Smaller class. No adult area, but very few kids. The Crew, Very polite, With the exceptions of bar crew. my bar bills were all over the map For the same drink, (long island) even on the day it was the drink of the day! Daily drink package was in in excess of $1140.00 per person. Overheard on person watching the bar staff and complained she paid for top shelf! And was getting bottom. Room! Great, balcony, clean great room service. Food! Buffet was great, main courses not so much. Veil sausage cold gross! Chicken tough and chewy. We opted not to eat most main dishes. Rib meat on noodles, looked like beef stroganoff. Coffee! Let's just say (Coffee on cruise`s aint good) Casino!!!!!!!!!!! Bad dealers!!! Lets just say wow!!!! Small, smoky, high minimums. I personally had to stop the play on the roulette table, have the pit boss called and reviewed the last play. Which i was paid for later. I was watching three card poker, not playing! Watched the dealers not knowing how to pay, exposing players cards by moving other cards, not! At all to rules! Entertainment!!! What entertainment? A (one two shows family/adult) kids could have stayed for the adult show. Comedian (It was funnier on the pool deck watching the drunks) Next was a Juggler and joke teller (can you say County Fair) The last evening was the show by the ncl team it was good. Read Less

I chose this cruise for us to get closer to Easter Island where we were planning to visit but Norwegian Star Cruise Line was not an enjoyable cruise for us this time...and I thought it could have been nice as the other one I had. Most crew or officers don't greet cruisers but only a handful of waiters and Bliss Ultra Lounge blonde bartender; food quality were average, fruits were not ripped, simple meals, never had lobster included in our 15 days cruise; we had specialty dining and it was just average; everyday/every night clang noise which we informed customer service...the head of housekeeping came and that's it...; he reported it and later when we asked, he didn't have an answer. Almost at the end of the cruise, we asked again and he still didn't have an answer but offer us a specialty dining or changing our cabin. We declined. We never knew what was causing that annoying noise. Beside of the above issues, the worst, first time we encounter a rude stateroom steward and lousy one. I've pictures of how he made the beds.... Missed an island, ended up on the boat for three days with too many activities to do. I Had an allergic reaction on the boat and went to rje infirmary which I was disappointed in caus they seemed to care more about getting the money before treating me. it was like pulling teeth just to get some benadryl and the first thing they did was ask for payment for the benadryl even tho I was in anaphylaxis. However the embankmen and disembarking went very smoothly. The staff was always friendly and very helpful. The person that was assigned to my room was always attentive. I traveled with my boyfriend and he liked it overall. My son saw the boat n want to do it for his birthday in March so I'm thinking about that. The shore excursion snorkeling was an amazing and exciting experince. I'm not a huge fan of cruises because the sea sickness is awful after a while, but I would do it again Read Less

This was my 4th cruise on NCL. I sailed on the brand new Norwegian Encore. Unfortunately, out of the 20 plus cruises that I have taken, this was the worst cruise. The service was very poor. Long lines to get drinks and waited 20-25 minutes in line at guest services both times. The rooms were very small and the room steward was not personable nor did he do anything extra in any way. Actually, none of the staff were very personable at all, unlike all other cruises. The food was OK but certainly not excellent like you would expect on a brand new ship. They also "nickled and dimed" you for everything. The specialty restaurants are not longer a $20-35 upcharge only. They now charge" a la carte" pricing. We ate at the French restaurant, just 2 of us, no alcoholic beverages included, and our tab was $120. That did not make us happy. The sofa that my 11 year old sleep on (3 to our cabin) was the most uncomfortable thing ever. Even my 65 lb., 11 year old was sore and uncomfortable. The race track and the laser tag were additional "pricey" charges, but that was not advertised to us when we watched the commercial and subsequently booked this new ship. I could go on and on. There were 13 of us and not one person enjoyed this ship. If this is the way NCL does things now, then that is the last time we cruise with them. Just booked a cruise on MSC for the first time. Sure hope that it's a good one. Read Less

I felt as though NCL NICKELED and DIMED their patrons. Everything has a price. You have to make Reservations for almost everything - shows - comedy shows-activities by the time u try and make Reservations Everything is booked. Food in the Manhattan dining room was ok - at least u could choose more than 1 appetizer and entree. If you wanted lobster or any type of seafood, you had to purchase the dinning package. If there are 4 of you in the room, only 2 of you can chose the dining package. Dining at the Specialty Restaurants is not Free Style, because you can only choose 1 appetizer, one entree and one dessert. I’m wondering if Free Style - means NCL is Free to charge you any way they can. Gluten Free options are very scarce at all of the restaurants and bakeries. The ship was Extremely Cold. People traveling along in my party got sick, because temperature on board. So if you plan on cruising NCL - bring cold medicine. Bring Gluten Free Snacks if you have a Gluten allergy and bring extra monies for all of the extra charges - if u plan on racing, viewing a show, painting. This is not a cruise for Families. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the destinations and timing. When booking with Norwegian, the sales people were very helpful with excursion planning, packages available to use and cabin selection. As soon as the cruise was booked, I started receiving emails to upgrade EVERYTHING! We were set to depart from Miami at 4 PM on 11/23/2019, shortly after 7 PM, we were finally leaving for the seas. I will say the food on the cruise was fantastic, the entertainment was great and that's the end of the good stuff. The 1st day of excursions, we had to tender to the port. We were all told to meet in what I now refer to as the "Escape Room". After a 2 1/2 hour wait in the Escape Room, we were finally leaving the ship. We did make our excursion but only because it was later in the day, many people did not make their excursions. This did not allow us any time for any thing other than the excursion. Again, after the very long wait to leave the ship, we had about 2 hours of standing in line at the port to get back on the ship. Norwegian finally gave my husband a 20% discount on his excursion because he didn't lunch or some other things included in the package, but the rest of us paid full price for the excursion which apparently included 5 hours of waiting on Norwegian. The 2nd excursion day was better! 3rd Day of excursion was in Costa Maya with 4 other cruise ships in this very small port. We got off the ship, fought through some of the crowds and then headed back to the ship in frustration. 4th Day of excursion, TENDERING FRUSTRATION AGAIN!!! Our time to meeting for the excursion was 6:45 AM, we with lots and lots of other groups were waiting at 6:45, again almost 2 hours later we finally got off the ship. I had booked this excursion after seeing the description of an all-inclusive, approximately 8 hour natural water park excursion. It turned out to be 45 minutes of travel on a small boat where the green plastic bags were passed out for all the vomiting on the boat. After that excursion, we had about another hour long bus ride to the Xel Ha Park. We arrived here at 11:00 AM and were told we had to be back on the bus at 2:30 PM. Our approximate 8 hour excursion turned into a short 3 1/2 hours. We were again given 20% off this excursion after my husband spent easily 2 hours in line with guest relations. Lastly, it was a very large ship and had a splash area (pool) for kids and ONE (YES, JUST ONE) pool on this cruise ship. It had an occupancy sign for a maximum of 39 people. We talked to several people along the way, some experienced cruisers, and the feeling in general frustration and dissatisfaction with Norwegian and this cruise. It will probably be quite a while before I consider another cruise and most likely it will not be on Norwegian!! Read Less

Had issues on day one and they just haunted my girlfriend and I throughout our trip. A paid for drink package, that we had ample proof of.( email from NCL and our itemized reservation.) Couldn’t get it on our room card at the check in, computer issues were blamed and we were told to see Guest Services once onboard the ship. Here’s where it starts to unravel, gentleman we dealt with was virtually a recording. He disputed the email, from NCL Sr. VP Passenger Services. As our itemized reservation wasn’t enough proof of our claims. Finally after having all his ridiculous and vague questions answered, we got the “We can do nothing on the ship, it must come from the office” on a loop from him. Literally his response to us for the next 5 minutes. We decide to purchase the package AGAIN to avoid paying exorbitant prices for beverages on our vacation. After wasting 4 hours waiting to hear from “The Office”. We head back to Guest Services and miraculously our package was already on our reservation! A Christmas miracle! The attendant asked us why we purchased onboard, a package we already had... we had to tell the ridiculous story for a third time since check in at port. We thought the worst was behind us and we began to enjoy our vacation. Until we were greeted by some of the worst bar staff I’ve ever encountered. I don’t think they served me what I ordered until the third different bar we visited. The language barrier was ridiculous for any guest service position. It’s very frustrating to get blank stares and “ok sure” after simple questions. 2 different areas we visited failed to open at posted hours. The response we were given was, “It open when it open” in the worst broken accent you can think up. All in all, there were some great crew members who salvaged my vacation. However, they’re far outnumbered by staff who are either poorly trained or just don’t care. That’s a good overview of the negatives, I’d like to touch now on some of the positives. We found the food offerings truly awesome, dinners were fantastic, the buffet was wonderful! Our room was quite spacious and had a great view. The people watching on a 4 day “booze cruise” is some of the best entertainment you’ll find aboard. Great stirrup cay is just Ok in my opinion. It’s crowded and was like any other weekend at the beach. This was my first cruise and my GF’s fourth. Neither of us want to get back on the sun! Read Less

I chose this cruise because I was excited that we would be at port most days and I really wanted to visit Santorini, Greece. Unfortunately, we were notified the day before we set sail that the itinerary had been changed and we would not be going to Santorini after all. They offered us $100 compensation per state room. They had also removed a stop to Montenegro and had shortened 5 of our other stops. I was informed by management that we had lost an engine and were running at half speed which is what caused the changed in the itinerary. Suddenly, we were spending significant time on the ship rather than exploring the Mediterranean. I tried to make the best of it. The staff were all very friendly and helpful which did help ease my disappointment. We upgraded to include 5 nights of specialty dining. This was good as the food in the main dining rooms was fine, at times good, but at times the food was not hot and often very salty. Each day we were at sea I looked for entertainment on the ship. This left something to be desired for a middle aged person such as myself. I wasn't interested in Bingo or the art auctions. The classes offered almost always felt like they were trying to sell you something on the ship. The live music was all mostly classic rock and easy listening. There's only so much drinking I really care to do and it was too cold for the pool. This left me fairly bored most days. They had some decent shows at night and I checked out the night club and karaoke once or twice. I'm not sorry I went as I made some good friends along the way and got to see some great places. However, I will not be cruising with Norwegian again which sends people out on a busted ship and then does not compensate properly for changes they make. Read Less

We chose the November 8, 2019 9 day cruise just my wife and I. We have cruised many times before (many different cruise lines) and understand things don't always go as you expect or would like, but Norwegian should be rethinking where they are going and review how their management team performed. From ridiculously long lines on day one to a tender process that could have been better managed by a school crossing guard. Food on deck 15 was basically the same stuff every day. The other "included" restaurants had pretty much the same main fare in each of them the same day..... so what is the reason for offering a choice? No matter if you had dinner reservations or not, you still had to wait in line to eat. Nobody likes to wait, right? The upscale "pay" restaurants were so expensive, most regular folks like us can't eat there. Frustrated one night we tried the French restaurant as we were not happy so far with the others, and the food was not good. I ordered a drink and it took almost 30 mins to get it. And when you finally did get it, expect between $10-$16 per drink! $27 for a glass of wine? Are you kidding me? (They knew I was unhappy and comped my drink) Obviously they are making it more unpleasant to eat in the standard "free" restaurants and forcing people to chose to pay extra $ for something we used to expect to be included on a cruise. I don't think the direction is correct, but I am just a lowly consumer I guess. The waiters seemed to do more walking and running back and forth instead of servicing their tables. Most of the time we had to ask for salt/pepper shakers, very little butter on the table, little coffee cream available. Ran out of milk every day. All the while "managers" walked around trying to look important. Played poker every day and not once did the Casino manager come by and offer comps. You can't even get a bottle of water without paying for it! The rake on the table was 10%! We asked to have the stakes changed to 1/3 from 3/5 but they wouldn't even consider it. The other music/piano/juggler entertainment was good. Hard working hourly people were polite, the room was clean. Overall the ship is beautiful. Management really needs to review and better understand consumer expectations. Did not do any of the excursions due to the fact we have been to most ports before (and the cost!) The ports were so crowded with the same old T-shirts shops you wanted to get back on the ship as quickly as possible. Heaven forbid you have to go through the tender process more than once. Looks like we'll not chose Norwegian again any time soon. Sorry for the negative review, but hopefully someone will use my opinion to improve future sailings for others! Read Less

We were not impressed with this old tired ship. Furniture is not only dated but worn out. It has plumbing issues so bad that with three hours notice we were told that drilling and plumbing repairs would be happening from 11pm-5am!! Sorry for any inconvenience! That’s about the attitude of the Ship throughout the trip. We had to be diverted from Venice because of flooding which was not Norwegians fault however where did they take us....to the nearest dump of a port no one had ever heard of...Ravenna Italy. There is absolutely nothing in Taveena so the ship arranged two shuttle buses to take approx 1200 passengers into town!!! We waited in the cold night over two hours trying to get on one of these shuttle buses then gave up. Food quality was so bad we finally took to eating at the buffet. That should tell you how great the restaurant’s are...the menu was almost the same junk every night with just a different way of preparing same. On five occasions we had to send the meal back to the kitchen as it came out almost cold. Out of thirteen shows only four could be considered entertaining the rest were fill ins with mediocre performances. Example was a chap from Germany who was basically a one man band. Hopeless. Cabins are very small and poor furniture in them. Our friends didn’t even have a chair for the little desk in the room. Shower had mold in the tiles. It was just awful. The only saving grace was our cabin steward who did his best to help us. Would we ever travel Norwegian again...not likely especially when they also make you pay for everything!! Water included. Drinks are the highest in the industry plus they add on a mandatory 20% gratuity charge. Average drink is around 13$ US!! And up. Read Less

My friends were going on this cruise and had been on Norwegian before, my family and I had not. This ship had the worst service in history, my family and I were SHOCKED. We bought the ultimate drink package and thought we'd get a chance to use it but that was just a dream, unfortunately. The bars were completely understaffed. We had to wait 30 minutes each time we wanted a drink from the bar (really the only place you can get drinks on the ship unless you want juice). We even waited 30 minutes even if we only wanted a pepsi or diet pepsi. We asked a server to get us drinks or a pepsi and were given dirty looks as if we'd committed some kind of crime. None of the staff or bartenders even understand the drink package or ultimate drink package. My friend had to print out the info on the drink package to show those in charge that san pelligrino water was actually included in the package (otherwise they were charging us for the bottles). For days I tried to get diet soda cans in our room but I was repeatedly told this was not possible, the ship didn't have diet soda. WHAT? And certainly didn't have any cans of diet soda... On the 4th day, my friend met with the Food & Beverage General Manager who advised that yes there was cans of diet soda and the GM sent 6-7 to the room (this was greatly appreciated). But why did it take 4 days, repeated interactions with staff, guest services, housekeeping, room service etc.? If you have a problem in your room, don't bother calling anyone, they never answer the phone anyway. The sun and pool deck were terribly over crowded - the lounge chairs had no space between them and people were practically on top of each other. In many cases, people were reserving lounge chairs from 6 or 7 am. There were open lounges at the top sun deck but it was so windy up there, it was uncomfortable. The pool easily had several hundred people in it, so if you didn't get it in early and stay in it, you couldn't get in it at all in the afternoon. The ropes course and slides were nice but since it was always terribly windy these were typically closed. (If you have been on Royal Carribean's Anthem of the Seas or Harmony of the Seas and loved it, you'll be bored out of your mind on this ship. There isn't enough for the 13 year olds to do especially with the wind problem. The main/regular dining options have horrible food and even worse service. Our server never even got us drinks and dinner took 2 hours. No one on this ship knows anything. We would go to guest services for information, they would send us elsewhere. We'd go to the X place as directed by guest services, and X place had no idea and would send us back to guest services. Guest services would send us back or to somewhere new. To say that the staff and servers are uninformed and don't care is an understatement and they certainly show it. The exception being the specialty dining. The service in the specialty dining - particularly Ocean Blue and Cagney's was great and the food was even better. We ate here several times (we wouldn't dare go to the Manhattan dining room or any other regular/main dining room). Also, don't bother with O'Sheehan - this dining experience also took several hours and the server was clearly overworked and unable to manage the guest load. Most of the food here wasn't great but the wings were pretty good. We also ate in the Italian restaurant - good food and decent service. Our kids (6 of them) ate in the hibachi restaurant and enjoyed that as well. The entertainment - music and comedians were great. Very enjoyable. Booking an excursion was challenging and we were told that the excursion we wanted was filled. So we went to Virgin Gorda on our own (saving hundreds) and it was beautiful. Definitely worth the trip. We were scratching our heads because we only saw 5 people from the cruise at Virgin Gorda Baths all day and the excursion certainly wasn't completely booked as we were told. The spa was nice but the staff didn't appear to be knowledgeable and are always pushing products even after I said "I don't want to buy anything" they still kept coming, pushing stuff. It made it a very uncomfortable experience. The thermal spa was also nice but it was difficult to get a chair and the floor was slippery, I wiped out and hurt my arm and knee. I made an appointment in the spa for a mother-daughter massage which was re-scheduled 3x because our reservation kept going "missing" - finally on our last day when it was there, we got our massage. During the massage, my daughter's massage therapist left the room for 10 minutes. I asked my therapist if she was okay and was coming back. My massage therapist said yes she left because of the weather. My daughter's massage therapist finally came back and resumed her massage. A few minutes later, she left again and I realized the vomiting noises I heard (and was hearing again), was my daughter's massage therapist. I couldn't believe it!! How could she be vomiting and then resume my daughter's massage as if everything was just fine?? Once I realized what was happening, of course, I became very green around the gills but I immediately stopped the massage. With the norovirus being commonplace among cruise ships, I would expect if someone was feeling ill or vomiting, he/she would not work on or with the guests. In this case, I think the massage therapist was sea sick but I can't be sure. I am so grossed out and horrified. Just as bad, I paid for this debacle and am worried sick about what my daughter was exposed to. On the last full day, there was a storm in the afternoon. The staff was slow to realize the impact of the storm and tie down lounge chairs to prevent them from being blown all around (into people etc). Do yourself a favor - go on any other cruise line. We were very underwhelmed by our cruise. We had a balcony room towards the front of the ship. The room was clean, but nothing spectacular. The TV channels were almost non existent, we had 2 movie channels and 1 sitcom channel, the other few channels were related to the cruise. The beverage staff was slow and constantly forgot your drinks. There was little to no entertainment on the ship. The smoking section was so small there was never enough seats for everyone to sit. Additionally, you weren’t allowed to smoke at the bar that was located in the smoking section. Food was mediocre and the service one night at the four seasons was horrendous. We were there for almost two hours after being seated and it wasn’t because we couldn’t decide what we wanted to eat or drink, it was because our server kept disappearing. I will definitely not be going back on a Norwegian Cruise. Read Less

My husband and I are longtime NCL guests. We chose this cruise based on the convenience of departing port being close to home and also based on the itinerary. We have taken numerous cruises with NCL and were very disappointed in this cruise. It lacked all of the reasons we usually choose to vacation on this cruise line. Embarkation was disappointing. First time ever where it seemed chaotic and disorganized and the lines were beyond long. Once onboard it was apparent that the ship was not staffed appropriately. It seemed that there was minimal staff to accommodate guest needs. Unable to be seated in timely manner at specialty restaurants that were pre-booked prior to boarding that were 3/4 vacant at time of reservation. Food service took a ridiculous amount of time to arrive after placing an order. Food was over salted to the point of it being inedible. There was a medical emergency on deck 12. The guest was injured and bleeding in and around the hottub. I watched as the crew without gloves attended to the guest contaminating the surrounding area. The location was never properly sterilized after the emergency. Hot tub was never drained and cleaned/disinfected. They absorbed the blood with pool/beach towels. The shore excursions meeting location was set up poorly in every port. There was one canopy set up along side the ship with few chairs for guests to wait however the tour organizers did not allow us to wait under the shaded canopy. They had us gather in lines in the sun for 15-30 minutes prior to the tour start. Another medical emergency occurred on the day of the last port. The ship was full speed ahead to get back to Boston a day early which meant we lost a day of beautiful weather, use of the pool, outdoor activities. I have always enjoyed cruising with NCL but was really taken aback by what was lacking in this cruise. It makes me question whether I may want to rethink NCL being my cruise line of choice for my family's upcoming European vacation. Read Less

We usually cruise Carnival and thought we would give Norwegian a try. Never again! Just a few things that made a huge difference: Staff not nearly as friendly, no soft serve ice cream machine, no free 24 hour pizza, no indoor shuffle board or bags, food not nearly as good, and entertainment not as good. We will stick with Carnival! Our cabin was nice, but the kids room and arcade was at the end of the hall so it was always noisy. Bartenders did not know how to make drinks. The mojito bar is a joke! All the mojitos are premade and taste horrible! The only decent thing was the wings in the sports bar on deck 12. If you are on this ship and order breakfast go be delivered to your room anticipate them being late and order early delivery. Customer service is lacking on this ship. Very sad. Read Less

Although the itinerary was a dream come true for me, the ship itself and its management had a lot to be desired! I know it’s was a repositioning longer cruise than usual, but the staff and management were so unprepared and disorganized constantly that we cannot recommend this ship! First, they ran out of a lot of staple type food items, like Iced Tea, Orange Juice, Lettuce bananas. Second, the venues were too small for the size of the ship. Every show was standing room only and that was only if you got in line AT LEAST one hour in advance of the show! Third: something happened that prevented us from being able to go to Portugal. We looked at it from our balconies but were never allowed to dock!!!! Fourth: They herded is like cattle everywhere!!!!! Line upon line for TWO plus hours each time we had to disembark or Renee the ship!!!! In Miami it was FOUR hours!!! Fifth: Shore excursions: NOT what was described in brochures or on line... drove three hours to spend two hours than given 15 minutes to shop when the brochure said 6 hours in that location! Also several times the excursion said meals included and they were NOT! Seventh: the Bahamas Private Island was a joke! It took FOUR hours to tender everyone off the ship only to have another ship there first and all the beach chairs taken before our ship arrived and again ran out of food and drink. Sixth: Dining room food was cafeteria quality and service was so slow it took three hours to dine. Apparently that was caused because immigration in Denmark did not allow several hundred crew members to renter the ship!!!!! Seventh: tithe rooms were the narrowest I’ve ever had on any cruise line ever! NOW in all fairness, the specialty restaurants were mostly good ( except Cagney served a mushy lobster in shell) Le Bistro is outstanding, Ocean Blue is also! The buffet food was unique and very good with lots of specialty options, Peking Duck, Prime Rib and A Cheese selection that was gourmet! The ship was pristine and immaculately clean in all areas! The stewards and wait staff were very friendly and professional. If I had to do it all over, I would pay the extra for The Haven as their area and service was fantastic. They had use of private pools and spa, concierge service and never had to wait in line for anything! If I had known the difference in the service on that cruise, I would have booked The Haven!!!! 35 yo, couple. We really liked our trip to Bermuda with Norwegian Escape. It was a really cool adventure as first-time cruisers. The ship is well maintained - the staff is super friendly and the balcony cabins are spacious for a couple. The complimentary food was OK. Not the best but we did enjoy it. The shows were awesome. Our main problem was with the SMOKING been allowed on the ship in the casino. First of all we couldn't play in the casino because of the smoke. BUT even if you didn't play the casino you coudn't avoid the smoke - the casino is located in the midship near main attractions and dining area. you just can't avoid passing through the casino that is packed with smokers. Disgusting and unhealthy. My wife is pregnant and we really suffered from that. NCL - please progress to 2019 and don't allow smoking on the ship. You can allocate dedicated closed smoking rooms in the casino but please don't force everyone to suffer!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. We have travelled Carnival numerous times, however we had little choice since Norwegian was the only ship with desired itinerary. Compared to Carnival, this ship was not good. Food rarely changed and we grew tired of the menu by day 3. If you wanted to eat different food, you would have to pay extra (a lot extra). There was a hidden fee of ~$16 per day per person. We got hit with an extra $448 service charge because we brought our 7 and 9 year old. This charge was to replace tipping and you can sure notice to service depletion as a result. This cruise was approximately 1.5 to 2 times the cost of other cruises. We did not find the value for these increased costs. We will not rebook with Norwegian again. I will admit the entertainment was better than some Carnival cruises I have been on. Read Less
