Bermuda! Not to be. Boring Canada when still green is probably the worst of the worst. No time to research, shore excursions far pricier than original destination, staff was ready to leave for home (like we were). So sad to see many people get off boat when they reached Halifax (where they came from) and Sydney and New Brunsick, and Bar Harbor. I thought the Captain made an easy call and did not consider the passengers and that we literally hung out in our backyards for 7 days. Caught a virus. Food in main dining rooms was excellent. Shows were pretty good. But what a BORE. I could have and would have stayed home but we had absolutely no options nor compensation for this sucky cruise. Why did Escape go South when we did not? Why was Prince Edwards Island offered as an alternative? The passengers were unhappy and NCL could care less as they have offered no compensation for this bad call. We would have been out of Bermuda before Florence hit which it did not and would hardly have affected us since the course did not include any of the states that were hit. AWFUL! Read Less

I booked this cruise due to a friend getting married on the Norwegian Sky. This was my first cruise ship experience so my expectations were probably higher than what another person may be. The ship is pretty old and I knew almost instantly when we boarded that I was on a budget booze cruise. The alcohol is free, but I think they offer this because the food is awful and everything tastes better when your drinking. I would recommend upgrading your meals. There is a central kitchen, so even when you go to the sit down restaurants you are getting the same food as whats offered in the buffet. But if you upgrade to the other restaurants they have there own kitchen the food is fresh, hot and much more favorable. The buffet offered outside after dinner hours is probably the best and it offered chicken wings, pizza and more specialty desserts. Overall the endless buffet people talk about on a cruise is sub par on the Norwegian Sky. Also when you go to the sit down restaurants even the non upgraded restaurants you will be charged 20% gratuity that's why they swipe your card. The buffet is the only way to avoid this fee. Our room was what was to be expected although not even as close to what it looked like online, just outdated. Our toilet backed up twice as did our neighbors it was very difficult to get staff to take care of it. My suggestion is to learn Spanish before traveling as this is the primary language on the boat and will help you should problems arise. We got nothing but a $50/off a $100 massage at the spa for the inconvenience. lol we had to spend $100 first, of course! We couldn't use our room for 3 hours the 2nd time it happened and had a noisy fan left in our room until the carpet dried. We couldn't even negotiate because the staff could not understand us, how annoying! Thank god there was no real emergency!! The best part of the cruise is the private island, its beautiful, we brought our own snorkeling gear and it was awesome. I am 38 yrs old and it was fun to see my peer group and older enjoying themselves in the ocean! The drinks were great along with the food. Read Less

We chose the Bliss because of all the amazing videos we saw and everything we heard from our travel agent. I will start with the positives: - If you're a single or older couple with no kids, this cruise MAY be for you - Good options for entertainment - Paid/ upcharge restaurants were definitely better than included ones - Alaska ports made the trip worthwhile Now, for the things we do not like and why we will never choose Norweigan again: - Maybe because the Bliss is so new, this could explain the utter lack of organization of the staff - Food at Buffet, Taste/Savor (same food) and Manhattan was very mediocre (at best) with no place to sit in the buffet restaurant - Our room (10-154) had a horrible banging/knocking in the walls and for 3 straight nights I go ZERO sleep, for a vacation it was unbearable - The spa passes were pointless and way over priced (again with kids, it's very difficult to coordinate since the kids clubs closes for 2 hours chucks all through the day) - The arcade and bowling machines will charge you repeatedly whether you used/ played the machine or not (and the way we were treated when we brought up an extra $6 charge was atrocious...) -Staff on cruise aren't empowered to do anything. So, if you have issues you have to write a complaint post cruise and they say it takes up to 15 business days to get a response - The app is trash and they charge you $9.95 per person to use it - Most things were constantly closed down (laser tag, mini golf and race track) which attracted us in the first place - Most things on ship are an extra cost so it's a constant nickel and diming vacation - Not a lot of family friendly activities - Havanah was just awful (as you will see in every other review) but there was really no need for the actors to light up real cigarettes in Jersey Boys (it was disgusting and made the whole theater smell) - The common spaces like the observation area are ALWAYS packed and people put their gross feet on the furniture and no rules are enforced. NOTE: We had a balcony but if you get an inside cabin it will be very hard for you to find a "common space" to relax and enjoy when there is anything to see outside - No drawers/ clothing space for fmaily with kids (if you're just 2 people, I imagine the closet space would be fine - The worst traffic flow I've ever seen on a ship. Elevators are always packed and no one wants to make space for new people (so you will be climbing 5-10 flights of stairs all the time to get where you need to go) - Captain decided to not go to the glacier which was a huge selling point for us. Given all the equipment they have on board it was more of an issues of not “wanting” to rather that not being able to. Why not save their gas and effort, right? We literally turned around. Overall, this is a cruise where the food is bad, few options for families, the staff is not empowered to make anything right which means absolute HORRIBLE or non-existent customer service, over-crowded ship with poorly planned traffic flow, this was not a vacation this was a total disappointment. As with anything, we have each other so spending time together was the best part but I would not waste money with Norweigan (they appear economical but after being charged for EVERY SINGLE THING) they are way more pricey. I will be booking with Disney Cruise from now on until kids are older (they have exquisite food, service and pretty much everything is outstanding). Read Less

We were beyond excited to take the adventure of a life time to Alaska and travel for the first time with Norwegian family. The employees were rude, the tables stayed dirty, they charged for water, the entertainment was Horrible the singers did not even sing in tune. It was like fingernails on a chalk board. Our excursion was cancelled but that is understandable (weather permitted) but what is Not acceptable is the fact the cruise director told us to depart the ship because our excursion was ready only to find out it was cancelled and we were stuck overdressed and it was too late to change our clothes. The tour guide informed us the excursion were cancelled "ALL DAY" which means they knew prior to our departure. There was absolutely nothing to do on the ship. People were sitting around playing cards. Then, 40 hour before the end of the cruise the "Norwegian staff" shut everything down, and started to prepare for the next cruise. Nothing was open on the ship. I will never sail with them again and we were a party of 8.... Read Less

My family loves to cruise, this was the first cruise that we were very disappointed. There was not enough shows, you have to book reservations onboard if you don’t good look gettin* a Seat. My family and I tried to see a comedy show on the last day, people were saving seats for there family it was hard o find any open seats the cruise director came out and said for all you that didn’t get seat sorry and shut the door. We complained to guest services and the manager said you would have done the same thing. What a disgrace. When we tried to get a sit in the dining room they turned us away, they said to get seating in the other dining rooms. When you look in you can see empty tables. I had a bday for my 11 year old son, they would not put tables together we had to have separate tables. It was a nightmare. Pools are small and limited, forget about getting a chair. Staff is rude food is not great, don’t try to take a photo because they let people walk up the stairs while you are posting for your family photo. My list keeps going. I will never cruise with ncl again. Read Less

Far too many passengers to crew ratio. Extremely rude and unfriendly help desk. Awful Wi-Fi onboard communications. Mediocre food and beverage in general. Haven was a complete let down. Not nearly enough room around pool deck. In general the Haven is not worth the additional fee. The haven desk personnel were on knowledgeable and friendly. Haven restaurant selection was limited by the amount of days of the crews. The common area food choices were poor compared to other lines on the market. The butler service was outstanding and the housekeeping was as well. Consider ships with a greater crew to passenger ratio for a better present experience. This was extremely disappointing for sure of its age. The level of service and concern for the amount of money was far less than any cruise we’ve experienced today. The overall treatment for this haven experience was far less than anticipated and advertised. Do not expect any special accommodations. Read Less

First time with NCL, but cruised dozens of times with others. The food was terrible....everywhere! We tried the Garden Buffet several times. The food was barely warm to cool. I guess this forced us to the specialty restaurants, which were also disappointing. Considering we were on an Alaskan cruise, it was next to impossible to find fresh, hot seafood! I was told, “If you want fresh salmon, good luck.” The one entree I had was SO over cooked and dry...ughhh. The crowds, the kids running around unsupervised and the overall feeling of just being another buck to pay for this new ship was overwhelming. With the Ultimate Beverage Package, you can’t get even a small bottle of Perrier or Pelligrino, but you can have up to $15 of liquor!! The casino was NOT paying out to anyone! Spent over $6k!! We will never endure this misery again to be treated like cattle. Read Less

This was the first cruise I have ever taken. That being said I doubt I will ever go on another cruise again, and if I do it defiantly WILL NOT be with NCL. From the bad attitudes of Port staff all the way until dismemberment NCL staff had that "not our problem" attitude. First off, our scheduled trip to Great Stirrup Cay was cancelled 2 weeks before the ship set sail. NCL offered a whole $100 to accommodate us. COME ON. When I called NCL customer service to see if I could reschedule our cruise the lady told me and I quote "listen you can either go on this cruise or not sir." Against my better judgement, I went on the cruise thinking I could make the best of it. Once on the ship, my wife and I waited for our stateroom to become available. No big deal. We grabbed a drink at the Mojito bar on the inside of the ship. Great quality drinks, nice bar staff. So I figured if the whole trip was as good as that I would have a good time. I was wrong. On our way to the pool deck I stopped to use the public restroom. It was disgusting. Urine on the floors, clogged toilets, and no paper towels. At this time we had been on the ship a total of 15 minutes. I would have been a little more understanding 15 minutes before dismemberment... Once on the pool deck, we got another drink from the bar. Completely different attitude of bar staff and quality of drinks. Our room became available fairly quick, so we went to drop our bags and enjoy our day. Upon entry into our balcony room it appeared pretty nice. My wife is a clean freak and inspected the bed for cleanliness. It definitely was not. There was dark curly hair in between the sheets, she has blonde hair.... also stains on the white sheets were very noticeable. Thankfully we brought our own bedding and exchanged it. We spent most of Saturday around the "adult" pool area and made the best of it. The comedian Rob Long was great. My only disappointment is that he only performed for 35-40 minutes. Sunday we went on our "excursion" and I use that term very loosely. We decided to explore the history of Nassau, I wish we would have just stayed on the boat. The 3 hour tour lasted about 2. We explored the slums of Nassau. The "Atlantis Experience" was the guy dropping us in front of the resort and him saying okay I'll be back in 30 minutes. Atlantis Resorts doesn't allow access to any beach area or aquarium areas to patrons who are not guest. As they rightfully should. I just assumed this being a "guided tour" that we would be walked around and shown the area. We were not. The tour guide drove us around to 2 Forts in the area and 1 public beach for 10 minutes. He proceeded to give advice to people on the bus to tip him for his time. What a joke. We got back on the ship and pretty much stayed in our room until we returned to the Miami port the next morning. I wish I could say I had the time of my life and that I would book another cruise with NCL, but that simply isn't the case. I hope someone reads this and saves themselves the trouble and money I wasted. Read Less

Went on the cruise for extended family vacation. Worse cruise I've ever been on. To many people. Not enough space. I would stay in the city if I wanted people to constantly bump into me. Not enough shows that were free. First cruise I've been on you had to pay for a real show. All the rest were singing only. Definately not enough smoking areas. Bad enough I'm a second class citizen in the US the boat had three in the worst places possible. Needs more than one Adult pool. Couldn't get near it during the days at sea. Needs to show movies in the theater more than 3 times a week. Buffet was not that good. Layout of ship very poor. Had to walk miles to go from one part to another. Not relaxing at all. Cruised on Norwegian 30 years ago. This trip did not compare in the least. No shows during dinner with the waiters. Just a bad trip. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was a last minute decision and the only one going to Hawaii on the date that I needed. I will NEVER AGAIN sail with Norwegian. Many of the staff members are not only not very friendly, but downright rude — they argue back with their passengers. I encountered this not only myself but was witness to others, too. The elevators were another issue. There are thousands of passengers on board, but there are only seven elevators. Worst of all, they are so slow that I ended up just using the stairs. Norwegian also does not provide free WiFi. What institution in this time and day does not allow free WiFi? So I thought, okay, I don’t need their WiFi because I’ll just use my cellular data. Nope! They prevent you from using yours so that we have to purchase theirs. Norwegian also charges you a mandatory tip of 20% for all additional services from cleaning your room, buying drinks, room service, etc. Due to this MANDATORY tip, the staff feel no need to be extra good to their guests. For just choosing to sail with Norwegian, I had to dole out an additional $650 that was my automatically charged to my account regardless of whether I chose to get my room cleaned or not or whether their staff treated me well or not. Food is another issue. Overall, it’s mediocre at best. The breakfast buffet at Aloha Cafe was acceptable, but lunch was horrible. Dinner was exactly the same whether one dined at Liberty, the one that requires that all adults wear long pants or the Skyline, the one that allows complete casual wear. ALL of their pastries crumbled under my fork for some reason and the many of the foods were too salty for my taste. While on the ship, there was nothing to do. The only activity worthwhile for me were the lei making classes. The two pools that they had next to each other were too tiny that they resembled jacuzzis. Finally, my cabin’s restroom continued to smell of urine whether it was cleaned or not. It seemed that it might have been coming from the drains. The public restrooms in the men’s room didn’t have toilet liners. Read Less

We planned this cruise for about a year and was so excited to see Cuba before it became "Americanized." This particular cruise was the only one that fell within our timeline for our group. The embarkment and disembarkment at Port Canaveral were fantastic. When we walked onto the ship, there was no one to greet us or direct us. We simply wondered the ship - checking it out. We joined the cruise director who was giving a tour of the ship. Our luggage arrived timely. Our room was small but clean. Good thing it had been cleaned before we arrived because our steward did not touch it again. The towels were left laying on the floor for days, and we eventually ran out. The food was left in our room. No tidying up at night time and no towel animals. The food on the ship was less than satisfactory. The few restaurants included in the reservation had only a few choices. It was the same food each day. The wait staff was so rude. They would literally take the plate out from us while eating. They cleaned our tables while we were still eating. The other restaurants on board were pricey. Alcohol was complimentary and a wide variety was available. The ship's customer service center lacks professionalism. They act like they are bothered if they have to answer a question. The bars and entertainment were good. The casino was just ok. The cruise director and staff were fun. Shows were professional. Entertainment was offered nightly, except for the overnight in Cuba. Half of the crew was given leave to go enjoy Cuba. That is great for them, but a lot of the ship was closed and service was slow because few staff members were left on board. Speaking of Cuba - don't go! It is just filthy. Bathroom facilities are non-existant. The "restaurants" are so dirty that we didn't eat or drink while ashore. We had to take our own toilet paper and drinking water from the ship. Make sure you attend the seminar on what to do and not to do while in Cuba. The locals were not friendly. There was no place to shop. It is stiffling hot and there is no breeze. The stinch from sewage in the streets is nasty. Some areas are great, but other areas are not. The women and children were begging for money and some were charging $5 to take pictures of them. We went on the cigar, rum and art excursion. It was interesting. We bought cigars, rum and coffee while on the tour because of price and quality. Our souvenirs were purchased from the ship giftshop because there was nothing to buy downtown. If you do decide to go, hold tightly onto your valuables while out and about in Cuba. Read Less

First i this is my 7th cruise and i have seen good and bad, but i have never written a review, I booked this cruise (4 cabins) for a large family cruise. One of the rooms (10093) had a large constant vibration. It did not matter if the ship was at sea or docked. Several cruise employees came to listen and agreed that this was very bad (kept passengers awake) and that they would get back to me on a solution. Their solution was a $5 bottle of wine. I told them this was not acceptable and after politely discussing the situation for several days, they offered me a $100 credit toward anything on the ship. I found this insulting as we paid over $3000 for the trip. The ship is old and needs to be retired. The food on the ship was absolutely horrible the first two nights in the dinning room, but after that it was like normal cruise food for the last 6 nights. The dinning staff was average, and i have seen better on other cruises. The stateroom was clean and the steward was fine, but not as friendly as other cruises. I have always watched the entertainment "shows" on all the cruises. The shows on this sailing were so bad, i only sat through one show completely. Read Less

Strap in folks, this is going to be a long one but well worth your time if you're considering this cruise (or any cruise really). First, something you should know about me - I am the most optimistic person you will ever meet. My wife says I wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed every single day, no matter what. I can see the good in any situation whatsoever. However, by the end of my cruise experience, I was waxing poetic about the bowels of the hell that was this ship - so please keep that in mind. Also, for the record, this was my first cruise. My wife and I typically take 2-3 vacations a year (usually an all-inclusive in the Caribbean and another trip in another foreign country). Let's start with embarkation day. You arrive at the lackluster cruise port terminal (which is essentially a less glorified and less amenity-filled version of an airport) and promptly proceed to wait in line. Pay attention, because that will be a running theme throughout this trip. When you "check-in" online before you arrive, you select an arrival time. This time is a complete farce. You can show up whenever really because no one is checking anything with respect to your check in time. Waited in line about 30 - 45 minutes and finally were able to enter the ship. (Pro tip: Only bring carry-on luggage, especially if you plan on arriving late or leaving early on disembarkation day. If you leave your luggage with them at check-in, you don't get it until ~8 pm that night. Also, if you need to have them offload your luggage you need to leave it outside your room the night before you disembark and they pick it up). We arrived promptly for our 12:30 pm check in and get to our room by about 1:30 pm. My wife was tired and wanted to nap for a bit and I wanted to explore the ship. However, once you get on the ship, your room isn't ready AND not every part of the ship is open yet. They usher you into one of a few different large areas to "hang out" or, you can do like we and EVERYONE else did and head to the buffet to eat. (Pro tip: DO NOT go to the buffet at this time, it will be like wading through the worst sea of humanity you could possibly imagine for less than mediocre food.) After eating we finally had access to our room around 2 pm. Great, now vacation can begin... or so I thought. You are immediately bombarded with announcements that you MUST ATTEND the safety demonstration at 3 pm. My wife was trying to nap for a bit but this incessant noise from the tv and the loudspeakers made that nearly impossible. We arrive promptly at 3 pm to find huddled masses and even more massive confusion across the deck. You are assigned to a lettered station based on your room assignment and have to check in with some person in a magic vest that checks your name off a list and then get shoved into a huddled crowd. Now this is all outside in Florida in the summer time. It was crazy hot and humid with little to no air circulation whatsoever. They keep telling the group to move back and form tighter as more people show up! It is the epitome of cattle car-ing people. In fact, a woman (maybe late 40's/early 50's) ends up passing out from heat exhaustion and the (I kid you not) chef of the Italian restaurant who moonlights as an EMT (or has some sort of medical training) was brought out to assist her. Overall the safety demonstration is like 15 minutes long and utterly pointless. This whole process was extremely inefficient and utterly pointless. I find it hard to believe in 2018 that we can't figure out a better and more practical solution. Next, let's get to the real meat and potatoes of the cruise - the food. Going into the cruise, all I ever heard anyone ever talk about was the food was on their cruise. I'm not sure what cruise they were on but I felt completely bamboozled after my first complete day on the boat. The best thing I can say about the food is that it wasn't rotten and I didn't witness anything that would lead me to believe there were any food safety concerns. HOWEVER, there is a wide berth between that very, very low bar and the delicious food that I envisioned. The food was barely edible and overall lacked any flavor whatsoever. I searched high and low for any semblance of a dish that I would desire to eat again and I came up empty repeatedly. This was a "Freestyle Cruise" whereby you didn't need to make reservations anywhere and you can eat wherever/whenever but that doesn't mean much when the food isn't worth eating in the first place. I could go on for days about how bad the food was but there's A LOT more to get to. For the record, we only ate at the restaurants and buffets included in our package and did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants on board but from speaking to fellow cruisers, it did not seem that we missed much. There were a bunch of specialty restaurants on board but each and every one of them was an upcharge... which brings me to the biggest gripe with the cruise overall... Do you remember the episode of the cartoon Rocko's Modern Life where they go on a trip and see a billboard for a ski resort that looks amazing? The sign says "everything only $5*". Yes, that asterisk was important because, much like myself, after paying $5 to enter the ski resort, Rocko finds out that every single thing in the resort costs $5. Everywhere they turn, there is a constant $5 charge that ends up adding up to a huge sum by the end. THAT is the best to describe this cruise. Now this cruise is sold as an "all inclusive" and "freestyle" cruise where your package includes all the food, drinks, and everything else you can possibly want... with a HUGE freakin' asterisk. Everywhere you turned on the damn boat there was someone trying to sell you something or, even when you asked for something that was included in your package, someone was trying to sell you something else "for a small fee" that would be charged to your room. You want coffee that doesn't taste like they scraped it out of the Captain's porcelain throne this morning? $3. You want a wine that is actually drinkable? $5. You want to use the mobile app to allow you to message your friends for "free" throughout the cruise? $9 (back to WiFi and internet later in the review...). Water. Clean, drinkable water is the essence of life and NCL knows this. As a result, you cannot get a bottle of water anywhere on the ship without paying for it. Sure, they will give you as many cups of filtered water as you want but anything with a cap? $4. Also, from before you even get to the cruise port throughout the entire trip, they are constantly selling their "water packages", which consists of 6 bottles of water for $18! I can only imagine the amount of marriages that ended over ridiculous amount of charges racked up by an unsuspecting spouse over the course of a trip. Yes, you can charge your gambling credits to the room as well. Also, EVERYTHING you charge to the room has a 20% surcharge (example, my wife wanted one $5 glass of wine.... total charge $6). They also seek to penalize you at any moment. Did you lose your pool towel? $25. Do you need medical attention (yes, my wife wanted to see the doctor due to a mild allergic reaction)? $150 JUST TO BE SEEN BY A DOCTOR WHO IS A PART TIME CHEF. Whatever school that man went to was truly a heck of a bargain to come out as both a chef and a doctor. Internet is the biggest scam of all on this ship. They have different packages for WiFi but essentially it's either per minute (at the low-low rate of 99 cents/min.) or $120 for unlimited internet for 5 days. This ship has 11 levels roughly and it only worked reliably on the top 2 decks. For reference, we were on the 9th deck and it was spotty at best. Finally, there is the iConcierge app, which they don't tell you about whatsoever and we only learned about it from our rental car shuttle driver. This app is a piece of garbage and didn't work for 4 of the 5 days on the cruise. Purportedly you were supposed to be able to message your cruisemates "for free" - yea, right. $10. There is an "internet cafe" on board as well but it is NOT free and subject to the same rates as the WiFi. The shore excursions were good and definitely the highlight of the trip. However, for Key West, you arrive at roughly 1 pm and have to be back to the boat by 7 pm. Yes, it is a small island but that's barely enough time to do anything. Our group was pretty ambitious so we ate lunch (Conch Republic was delicious), headed to the beach for a dip, and then walked around town. We felt pretty rushed and didn't get a chance to experience any of the nightlife there. Oh well, onto Havana. Cuba was interesting to say the least. We did a 3 hour tour of the sights of Havana, which did a pretty good job of explaining the area and it's rich history. However, the tour guide really seemed to be reading directly from a script most of the time. (Pro tip: anytime they tell you to look in one direction, look the exact opposite direction and you will see something they definitely DON'T want you to see). It was really great to see an experience but is still not really tourist friendly yet. Give it time and it will soon be like every other island. We ate at two paladars, which were, by far, the best meals of the trip. I'm going to purposefully leave out their names because I don't want them ruined. Do a little bit a research and I assure you that it will be worth your time. Disembarking was fine, nothing spectacular to it and it was somewhat faster than getting on board. I could go on for a while about all the little annoyances and ridiculous things that happened but I think I made my point clear. Overall, I don't think I would do a cruise again, with this cruise line or any cruise line really. The whole thing was so lackluster and felt like a huge money suck. When I go on vacation, I don't want to have to follow a bunch of dumb rules and tried to be upsold everywhere I turn. I want to relax and do things on my time. I searched high and low on the ship and there was no quiet place I could just lay out and relax (except for my room). Every area with lounge chairs (mostly by the pool) had music blasting or live entertainment all damn day. I definitely didn't return relaxed or rested and already need a vacation from this last alleged "vacation". Read Less

This was my first and last time traveling in Norwegian. First day to check in it took 2 hours and another 30 minutes to board waiitng in a ramp with lots of people. Supervisor was very rude not only to guests but to the employees trying to help guets. He was very arrogant . Most poeple got free beverage packet and were drunk 24/7. I went to the ladies room and a drunk man was in it. The pool too small and filled with people just drinking and dancing. It was a mission to get lounge chairs. Bathrooms in the deck very dirty. Jacuzzis were unsupervised and even children were in it. Same menu the first three days at Taste restaurant. Tropicana hostess very rude . When we were seated it took them 10 minutes to just get their attention and acknowledge them that we were waiting to be helped. Not enough entertainment. I enjoyed the comedy club and the piano bar howl in the moon. Read Less

My party was 7 people, I booked 2 state rooms with balconies, we were part of a Family Wedding over 50 people booked, 19 cabins including suites, most on 9th and 10th deck, some lower decks as well. Cabins very small, states two queen or two full beds, its one queen and a pull out couch with a hard partially foam mattress. Had to ask for more comforters to add support for both rooms. Service was awful, our rooms were rarely made up before dinner still dirty all day. Dirty glasses were always left in our rooms. as we walked around the ship we kicked garbage as we walked, like empty cups in open deck areas, Lounge chairs all around ship where stacked and locked by 6/7 pm every day. We couldn't go to the pool to enjoy a night swim, or sit in the hot tub and relax, as they where closed by 10p. Not one staff member could answer your questions, they just simply replied "I don't Know". When you call guest services to add a soda package they advise you that all you need to do is go to any bar on the ship and they can add that for you. It took 2 days and 7 bartenders before i lost it and finally they added it. Like WtH? Was also told could add water package at any bar and that too was turning in to a production, Until I said no no no, I want your manager please. then what do you know, no manager needed a little bit of mumbling with another behind the bar in a foreign language and 30 minutes later water was delivered to our room and we tipped him too! The food was not very good, there was not many choices at the buffet, same food everyday, going to the restaurants the service was awful. One restaurant was 24/7 and they were the best food on the ship. other then that food and service terrible, felt very unorganized while we were going on excursions and ports , very rushed not enough time for what the charge is on the islands. Staff was eh, there was a handful of amazing staff and they know who they are. Our Family is already planning another Cruise. #1 The pool was way too small and extremely dirty for the number of people the boat held. I found cups and tissue in the water. #2 There was no staff ensuring kids stood in kid’s pool and only adults were in adult pool. #3 Not enough chairs/tables near pool area, if you didn’t get there by 8am you were not getting a chair near the pool you’d have to sit on second level which is very inconvenient. #4 Not enough staff serving drinks in pool area, casino and bingo games. #5 I had my room person cleaned every other day, I guess person responsible for cleaning my room didn't like this because he told me I must let him clean my room day before we docked because he needed to get it ready for next guest ... REALLY?!?!? #6 I was travelling with a party of 35 ppl, some of us received our excursion tickets some of us didn't, some of us received cute towel animals some of us didn't, some of us received complimentary chocolate, some of us didn't, there was no consistency in service #5 if I paid for the all you can drink package why are you charging me for the mini bar? #6 if you're going to play family movies in the atrium make the area more family friendly #7 the air conditioner in my room was horrible. We sent out laundry and it came back missing several pieces. Tried to get reimbursed at guest services but were told nothing they could do and gave me a card to contact ncl insurance claims. Called them to find out they couldn't see my booking because the number I got through travelocity wasn't in their system. Not sure what to do about it now, $300 worth of clothes are gone. The room we paid for cost twice as much as a single because we had 2 small kids with us, all we got was a fold down bunk bed. Ports of call were a joke, only shopping to do if we didn't want to pay extravagant prices for an excursion. Felt like a tourist trap everywhere we went. We were told when we booked the trip that the price included $300 of onboard credit. When our final bill was presented, no credit was shown. Guest services knew nothing about it. When I checked my confirmation email at the very bottom of a long paragraph of fine print I see a link to fill out a form for the credit that must be submitted 21 days in advance. Why??? Nobody said a thing about this while booking and why would that be necessary anyway? We paid the price assuming we would have that credit, we were told we would have the credit, we got no credit whatsoever. Overall very unsatisfied with the trip and feel like we were scammed. The food was good. Read Less

If you are planning a vacation on NCL getaway plan on being hungry. We were on a family vacation this past summer. We arranged to have our dinners at 5 pm every night. The first night it took 31/2 hours for our entire dinner service. And I'm sad to say that it did not get any better from then on. The wait staff in the dinning rooms(it didn't matter which dinning room we ate at) were absolutely awful. It's one thing to have adults wait but when you have young children who are hungry things get crazy. One night my brother got up out of his chair and got a pitcher of water because we were all thirty and had nothing to drink. By day 4 we couldn't take it any more and went to the cafeteria to eat at the buffet. Hot dogs and hamburgers were better then waiting 3 hours to eat. I could not believe when we were told that to have your picture taken there was a sitting fee, and only one picture package that you had to pick the same picture and get copies of the same picture. What is the point of that. Other cruise lines take pictures of you all day long and you can mix the pictures up and get which ever pictures you want. The entertainment was awful. In fact I would say that there was no entertainment. We were bored. Perhaps we were spoiled on Disney cruise line and Royal Caribbean cruise line. On the other cruise lines there is plenty of bar trivia or group games that everyone can play on NCL only a few people get chosen from a large crowd to play a game. Nothing to keep the children interested. Should focus more on family. Perhaps an indoor movie theather. The rooms were nice and the cabin staff was excellent. Perhaps they should teach the food staff how to give great service. Read Less

I chose this ship because I sailed on the Pearl and Jewel. They were pretty nice ships and had a lot of great activities to do. Unfortunately, the Bliss is too big. 4,000+ people with about 1500 staff. All the shows were booked before I got on the ship, nearly all the specialty dining was booked before we got on the ship, the elevators were constantly packed, the buffet constantly packed, the staff were overworked, over exhausted and probably underpaid.... They charge for EVERYTHING!! It didn't matter if you had the dining package....Ocean Blue added an additional $18 per person to eat there and the food was raw!! Disgusting. I truly had the worst experience every on this ship. Shore excursions were amazing of course because Alaska is amazing, but choose another ship to enjoy this Alaskan adventure unless you like crowds and lots of pushy people making their way to all parts of the ship. Oh, and if you decide to try out the fitness room just to kind of get a little exercise, be prepared to be belittled while you are there by the fitness guru who knows it all. Read Less

First time cruiser, chose this cruise since it provided an opportunity to see 4 islands over 7 days. At last minute canceled all stops to the big island due to volcanic activity. Local tourism has taken a beating due to the media hype and it is just hype. They decided to stay in port at Honolulu one more day turning a 7 day, 4 island cruise into a 6 day, 3 island cruise. Not what i paid for and a measly 84 dollar credit for this change. Ship was nice, clean but food was meh. Nothing special. They say this is freestyle cruising meaning eat when you want, except for the 4 hours a day transitioning from breakfast to lunch and lunch to dinner. That just happened to be the times we wanted to eat, late lunch rather than a later dinner. Take note that all onboard charges for services include mandatory 20 % service charge which translates into the worst customer service! They could learn a lot from Disney, smiling, happy greetings, tentativeness. The bar staff were the worst but some of the others such as buffet staff were just as bad. They offer an upgrade option by bidding on deluxe, larger rooms, tried to win one and i made bids aggressively to win one but did not. Good luck if you try. Have to spend more than the cabin would have cost if you booked it. Onboard art auction is another money making scheme, not an auction at all, they start bidding less than but close to the retail price they quote. Read Less

I picked this cruise to because it went to Cuba. The stop in Key West was cut from 8 hours to 4 hours a few months after I booked. I could not get answers from Norwegian to any of my questions before departure. When we got on the ship the bathroom in our cabin was dirty. The food the entire cruise was not very good and the selection was always the same. The information given out at the talk about Cuba was incorrect. The cruise included drinks but the last night they ran out of most of the included beverages. The only night our cabin was made up (towels changed, bed made) was the last night. Every other cruise line I have gone on cabin was done every night. Very few activities on ship that did not cost additional money. Ship was recently renovated while people were on board for a 2 week cruise to Panama Canal and then ship dry docked for 2 weeks. Ship did not look like any improvements made. Holes in bathroom walls filled with putty. The only show one evening was a comedian. I will never go on a Norwegian Cruise again. Read Less

Prior to this cruise, I have sailed with NCL four times. On each of these cruises, I've had fantastic experiences with the staff throughout the ship as they helped create positive memories that I can share with my family for the rest of my lifetime. Unfortunately, that was not the case with the NCL Escape. I booked this vacation as I had high expectations from my prior experiences with NCL: clean public areas, courteous staff, fantastic dining options, and notable entertainment groups. By no means was I expecting a 5 star service, but I was expecting familiarity with the friendly services I have received in the past. On this voyage, I traveled with my two sons. The process of embarkment was chaotic, as usual, but quite simple to manuever within. Once on board the ship, everyone crowded the Garden Cafe as the staterooms weren't finished from the previous cruise. Since I boarded later, there was no where for my two sons and I to sit in the Garden Cafe. We ended up eating on the floor outside with our carry ons. Remember, since this is a larger ship, many places are destined to become crowded throughout the duration of the trip. Although our cabin was not perfect, it was satisfactory. For the three of us, we had enough storage space to store our clothing but lacked space to comfortably walk from one side of the room to the other with the sofa bed out. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for the size of the cabin overall. By far, the best feature of this stateroom was the balcony. Being at sea for a little under three days, it is critical to take advantage of the on board activities the Escape has to offer. However, since there are over 4,000 guests on board, and limited activities to choose from, it is hard to attend the ones in high demand. If the activities did not require reservations, it was empirical to get in line at least thirty minutes beforehand. If the activities did require a reservation, they were booked within the first couple hours on board the ship. Nevertheless, the activities that I attended were good. There was a female comedian who was superb and a male comedian who was alright. The musicals were lovely and the play re-enacting the Breakfast Club was fun to watch. There were also two public pools, a waterfall cave, six jacuzzis, four waterslides, a ropes course, and mini golf for guests to enjoy. In my opinion, the dining experience received is a critical factor to the overall cruise experience of a guest. With that said, the overall dining experience was fair. I ate at two speciality restaurants as well as all three complimentary restaurants, the Garden Cafe (buffet), and O'Sheehan's (presumably open 24 hours). Of course, shore excursions were offered on the ship but not worth it for Bermuda. I highly recommend booking your shore excursions through Expedia as they are cheaper yet exactly the same. For example, my sons booked the Rising Sun shore excursion which was $100 through NCL but only $75 through Expedia. Through this one excursion alone, I saved $50 by booking through Expedia. If you got this far, you are probably wondering why I left "Terrible" as my overall rating of this cruise experience. First, the ship was too crowded overall. The sun decks were clustered with people and it was near impossible finding a row of chairs next to each other. The amount of guests on board the ship also play a role in the cleanliness of the ship. In the 18 and older sections of the ship, it was usual to find beer cans and cups floating in the pools in addition to the jacuzzis. At night, it is not a surprise to see vomit near these areas either. Speaking of 18 and older sections, these areas of the ship were poorly monitored. Here, anyone can casually walk in or out of these sections so it was common to see children in areas where they weren't designated. So, when you are up at midnight in the club, don't be surprised when a little kid strolls through groups of people grinding on each other. On Carnival, your key card would have to be scanned to gain access into these areas which I highly recommend NCL to do in the future. Second, I was a the Spice H20 bar on the 17th deck ordering drinks with a group of people. Since we were sitting at a bar top, a bar hop approached us and took our orders with our key cards. 40 minutes passed and we had yet to receive our drinks. Another bar hop walks by and we asks him what happened to our drinks and more importantly, our key cards. Luckily, he was able to find our key cards but the bar hop who took them disappeared. Through this bar hop, I order another drink and although he serves me promptly, he hands me the key card of a different guest than disappears as well. When I went down to guest services to cancel my key card and get a new one to gain access into my room, I was questioned as if I was in the wrong. Third, the dining options were not as exemplary as I would have enjoyed. Although advertised as 24 hours, O'Sheehan's closed at a certain time. I ate at two specialty restaurants during my stay on the Escape: Cagney's Steakhouse and Teppanyaki. Teppanyaki is a hibachi styled restaurant which I enjoyed very much however, Cagney's Steakhouse was disappointing. The wait staff were rude and took long to complete our orders. Once our food came out, it was not cooked to par as our steaks were either over cooked or under cooked. Surprisingly, the complimentary restaurants were great, with little to no wait, and I would highly recommend you dine here as opposed to the speciality restaurants. Finally, I was sitting at a bar connected to O'Sheehan's. A fight erupted behind me and as I tried to move out of the way, I was hit in the ankle by a thrown chair. It took security several minutes to disperse the fight. Once the fight was settled, I talked to security as I wanted to report the incident who referred me to guest services. I went down to guest services who told me that they could not help me or do anything to make my experience with NCL better. The next day, I woke up and noticed my ankle was black and blue and decided to go to the infirmary however they wanted to charge me to look at an injury I received on board the ship. Overall, I was not satisfied with how this situation was handled and wish I received more attention and the people who were involved in the fight were penalized for their actions. Four years ago, I would have recommened anyone and everyone to NCL. It was child friendly but also provided an environment for adults to escape. Now, I would not recommend NCL to anyone. For children, I feel that the NCL Escape promoted an unsafe environment through the constant fights that incurred on board as well as the lack of boundaries set in place. Meanwhile, for other travelers, the NCL Escape leaves much to be desired. Read Less

My wife and I had our first cruise with Norwegian and we will never cruise with them again. This trip was for our 25th wedding anniversary and we took the 10 hour flight each way from Sydney to Honolulu to get there. We found out from our travel agent on the day we were leaving Australia that the ship would not go to Hilo on the Big Island due to the volcano and we spent the first 24 hours sitting in port at Honolulu. As we had already organised extra days at the end of the cruise to explore Oahu there was not much for us to do except stay onboard the ship. Then on the evening we were supposed to sail to Kona on the Big Island the Captain announced over the PA that we would not be stopping there either and would be spending a day at sea. Then the Cruise Director gets on the PA and tried to put a positive spin on the situation, which just came across as an insincere "snow job". So instead of stopping at four ports we only stopped at two - Kahului on Maui and Nawilili on Kauai. They were nice places to visit and I would have preferred an extra day on both Maui and Kauai instead of sitting in port or spending a day at sea. The volcano had been erupting since the 3rd of May so NCL could have made the decision not to go to the Big Island a lot earlier and arranged extra days on the other two islands to make up for it. The shore excursions we had booked from Australia at Hilo and Kona were cancelled and we were offered on board credit (but not a refund). When we tried to book other excursions we found that others had got in before us and most of the good excursions were booked out so we had to settle for the crumbs. The lady at the Shore Excursions desk was not very helpful and lacked empathy for the situation we were in. We had a mid-ship oceanview room, which was OK although the bathroom was very small and you had to be a contortionist to use the shower. Our cabin stewardess was very good and looked after us very well. The entertainment was very poor. Some of the singers couldn't stay in tune. The magician was poor. Toby Beau and Carre Stone were good. Fred Bevill the comedian was very good - at least my wife and I were able to have a laugh in spite of all the dissappointments. There was a strong smell of sewerage emanating from the rear of the ship near the corner with the starboard side which seemed comaptibel with the overall experience of our cruise. The windows of the ship were dirty and cloudy so I could not sit on the inside and enjoy the views. The only good thing I can say is that the food and the service in La Cucina, Jefferson's Bistro and Cagney's steakhouse was excellent. The food in the Aloha Cafe was OK but it was very busy and often difficult to get a table. Overall we had a terrible experience and wont be cruising with Norwegian again. Read Less
